If the racking sprinklers are designed independent of the ceiling system
than it doesn't matter but if the racking sprinklers are designed as
supplemental coverage to the ceiling sprinklers than the ESFR rules would
apply, IMO

There is a section in there that shows have a 2'-0 deep draft curtain with
a 4'-0 Aisle below it
Can't remember exactly where it mentions ESFR's but I know I've read it
that this rule can be used to separate ESFR's from other design
though this is becoming less and less of a
concern but there are some companies that just can't have the disruption in
their data flow.
If money is not the concern than I usually try to steer someone towards the
Victaulic Vortex system.

I think you also need to look at the 18" requirement for the sprinkler
deflector clearance, if there is only 3" between the sprinkler and the duct
than the sprinkler cannot produce a proper spray pattern.

Had this discussion in a seminar about ESFR sprinklers, They
specifically direct a large amount of the water straight down for rack
penetration, that is why there is not allowed to be any obstructions
directly below the sprinklers, the cable tray needs to move.

There are dry chemical systems specifically listed and designed for paint
booth applications, we do them all the time, the cost is double the cost
for sprinklers, unless you don't have or can't get the current system to
handle the paint booth demand.
