Re: [AI] Fw: FW: Recruitment rules!
dear friends, sorry for the late reply. Dear Subramani, first of all, I request you to modify the first line of your message properly as your messages from 11:50 am to 1:30 PM today were containing the subject lines in the message body and making the reading difficult for the VI. coming to your comments, there may be various reasons for no response. first of all, there were some problems in your mail itself. your subject line was not clear and up to the real problem. you wrote it as recruitment rules which does not carry any message itself that a person is seriously affected by a current burning problem. that's why the moderator is repeatedly telling about the subject line. many people do not open the mails subjects of which do not interests them. that has already been rectified. the information given is not clear. whether disqualification is due to diabetes or blindness? you said you found out some thing about rules. did you find all the applicable laws which govern the recruitment of that job? if not, you have to get it through RTI or any other means as suggested by another member. you said the age of person 40 years. does this has anything to do with the disqualification? or you put it just to emphasis his problem of not getting the job at the late age? you have to clarify these things before seeking legal opinion. other than the above, members may not knowing the answer even though they want to help you. at that time, they keep quite. many a times, people will not be having enough time to reply to the messages as they may be busy in their own engagements. I check the mails only once or twice and reply only if have enough time. recall the moderator's comment that everyone need not reply to every message. so, please take back your harsh remarks on the list and its members. they are very offensive. responding to a message has nothing to do with knowledge and competence and you are not a competent person to judge them. I have seen no off topic message flooding the replies since my entry. the moderator is nipping them in the bud. you said the case affects every person. but other than off topic issues, all the matters are related to blind and any one among them including yours can be argued to be affecting every other blind. this case may not also affect some of the blind persons. present case is serious and I do not deny that. but before making negative comments on the matters, you have to see all these aspects. regarding useless discussions, you are not the judge for that. it may be useless for you but useful for those who discuss them. for example, I also feel some times members discussing so much about mobiles, android and others and feel useless. I do not have a talking mobile and that's why I feel so. but I simply ignore those messages. but the same may be of use to those having mobiles. so, this list is not a talking shop, insensitive, useless, futile and unworthy as you said and your message is not a scientific test of it. Re: [AI] Fw: FW: Recruitment rules!
to Subramani and Amrit Pal Singh, let us not indulge in such blaming activities and loose our spirit. instead we shall dedicate our time and energy in productive works or finding real solutions to the problems. to Amrit Pal Singh, don't indulge in retaliation. he cannot be judged insensitive. he has his own sensitivity for his friend's problem. in a despaired mind, he is blaming like that. he might also have done this to gain attention to his problem. but there are other polite ways to do it. Dear Subramani, I don't think that the question should be ignored if it is yours and not if its of the others'. you are also a blind/visually impaired and so also your friend. so, every thread has a general importance to it since it is a problem of the blind. I have also many mails not replied. but it should not lead us to get disappointed. certainly the problem is severe and need to be looked urgently but there is some inherent delay in this e-mailing system. you had other ways to gain the attention of the members like changing subject line, re-posting, etc. regarding the problem, the lines of solution suggested by Nageswaraiah are right I advice you to go on those lines and update the list for any assistance at any stage. Re: [AI] how to save battery
Hello There, I furnish the following information which I got from another group. I hope it helps you. How To Increase Laptop's BatteryLife Laptops users know the critical importance of the battery and it's life. Users who carry their laptops with them know it well that the performance of the whole system depends alot on the battery power. The more the standby time it gives the more convenient it will be for you. But to keep the battery long lasting you need to take a good care of it. There are some guidelines that, if followed can help in improving the battery performance and keep it long lasting. Keep the AC power ON The simplest tip of all! Keep the laptop running on AC power instead of battery. If you're on your desk, bed or sofa and the charging point is near you then you should connect the charger to to power it up with AC. The reason is simple - when the AC power is ON, battery is not used at all. Running the laptop more with AC power saves the charging and overall battery life. Keep it Cool Keep the CPU fan's vents clear. If its vents are under the laptops' body then make sure you're placing it above the surface on which it is placed. This keep the air flowing under the body which helps in exhausting the heat from the vents. Remember heated system will force the fan to rotate faster which will require more battery power. Control CPU Speed You can control or minimize CPU speed if you're laptop is running on batteries. To do this: Open Control Panel Power Options and Select the Balanced or Power Saver profiles to keep the CPU at minimum speed. This is best if you're working on single application like MS Office or just typing or watching a movie. You can create a custom profile for power settings by clicking change plan settings beside preset powerplans. Add More RAM Low amount of RAM forces the CPU to create a virtual memory inside hard drive. Accessing files from hard drive requires more battery power. RAM is not only fastermedium of transferring data to CPU but also lighter on power resources and consume much less battery power. Use Hibernation Mode Most of the users like to stand by the system when they're away and it is assumed that from standby state system wakes up early. But in standby mode system's hardware are still awake and eat battery power. It looks like the system is sleeping but actually it isn't. While the Hibernation mode is useful when you're running on batteries. Hibernating is little different from standby in which the system is completely shut down but the the opened programs, data in memory andopened files are preserved and you're taken to the same state before hibernationwhen you turn it back on. So instead of using standby try to hibernate it when on batteries. Lower Screen Brightness LCD Screen and hard drive are the two most power consuming devices on a notebook. Turning off the screen saves a lot of battery power when you're away for a while. Similarly dimming it also saves a good amount of battery charging. There are always shortcuts/functions keys given on all laptops to directly control the brightness of the screen. Turn off Unused Hardware Internally Beside hard drive there are other internal hardware devices that consume a good amount of power. Wifi and bluetooth cards are found to be always ON and searching for active networks around. When they're not in use, turn them off from the options or directly from the buttons given on the notebooks externally. Plug out External Devices USB devices, like flash drives, external keyboard and mouse etc are the biggest external sources that drain out the charging. If you do not need them when running on batteries, plug them out and you'll notice a prominent increase in standby time. Turn Off Scheduled Tasks Most of the programs are set on automaticexecution when system is idle. While installing application some of them set themselves for automatic execution or say for example checking for updates online. Carefully check for all these type of application from Task Scheduler and turn them off when you want to prevent them from running while system is battery-powered. Close Unused Programs This is the most obvious one. Applications running in background increase CPU usage. The more the CPU runs more the battery will be taken. Check the taskbar to see running applications and close all those that are not required. Try not to perform power-intensive activities while on batteries. Avoid multi-tasking and playing heavy games. With above 10 tips you can easily extend and improve life of the battery of your notebook. You'll definitely notice a huge increase in stand by time of your laptop if you perform all these. - - - Ashik Hirani Landline phone: 02849-242233 Skype: ashikali.hirani I would prefer flowers on my table rather than diamonds in my necklace. - Original Message - From: Uma VR arunfamily1...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent:

Yes, decreasing the brightness saves the battery. but as per my knowledge, every laptop has a key combination for turning on and off the display completely. it saves the battery more than from the dimming. Re: [AI] Fw: FW: Recruitment rules!
Re: [AI] Fw: FW: Recruitment rules!these are just vague excuses. By mistake, someone posts an off-topic matter, most if not all are up in arms against the poster. I don't agree with the notion that subjectline doesn't indicate actual matter. If off-topic mails can catch the attention of why not a mail routed through the moderator? Subjectline is quitre as the matter pertains to recruitment and its rules thereon. Also my mail is very clear and his age was mentioned as more details would be of help. Forget all those who don't have any solutions in this regard, what about those know such matters? Coming to the citing of moderator's comments that all mails need not be replied to, it depends on the gravity of the issue. Coming to discussion of useless maters, you need not remind me of the delet button as all computer users well-versed with that necessary button and hence I do use to ignore such mails. Its ridiculous to say I am not the person to judge which is the otherway of deflecting from the main issue. I shall never take back my remarks and shall standby them. Moreover, you have failed to read my mail completely and understand as well. - Original Message - From: Umesha Economics To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Sunday, February 26, 2012 3:04 PM Subject: Re: [AI] Fw: FW: Recruitment rules! dear friends, sorry for the late reply. First, this disqualification is not on the ground of disability, but on the ground of a disease (diabetes). So, I doubt whether PWD Act applies to this case. We should find out whether government can disqualify on the ground of such diseases . Second, I heard of some case where a person with HIV positive has been disqualified and the court gave the ruling against such denial. So, if HIV positive can't be denied a job, sure a person with diabetes shouldn't be. however I'm not sure of any concrete legal remedy. You may hear more from legal experts. -- G. Dear Friends, hello! Yes, it is true that many of our friends are using this forum for discussing books, mobiles and so many other devices which, in my opinion, are also worthy discussions up to the students' life. But, so many of our friends were recruited in public sector as well as private sector on the basis of their typing and telephone operating ability before 15 or 20 years back. Now, in these sectors, the working scenario has drastically changed due to computerisation and, as up to my knowledge, 95% of our friends are sitting on the duty in their offices without work or without useful working. Friends! in fact, the situation is really painful. to some extent, our friends, who are in services, might be having their own fault for the painful situation, but on the whole, let us look at the employers of our friends. Did the employers think of our friends during computerisation period or, also thereafter? Now, due to competativeness between the public sector and the private sector, each individual employees' performance is being looked upon and due this scenario, our friends are also in the same boat and they have to sail the same pace by pace. After fifteen years of the computerisation, the high authorities of the concerned employees are going to provide them computers and the screen readers etc. without giving them training for using the same. But, friends! the five fingers are not equal. many of the immediate functioneries of the visually impaired employees are reluctant to provide them user for working on the computers on-line. Each every department, wether it is public sector or private sector, has it's on-line working. So, friends, we have also to think of the same. Now, the Time has a burning Point for us and we have to pass it to the new comers in the services and to the high authorities of the public sectors as well as to the authorities of the private sectors. I also welcome our friends on this forum to accelerate our thoughts so that the useful pressure on the concerned sectors as well as our new comers in the services may be transmitted to an applicable solution. I later enquired in the service center and they said that a person named siddu has serviced my laptop. when I argued that nobody came to me, they said that it is a case of breakage and warranty is not covered for such problems and I have to get it serviced by paying. legal experts in the list please advice me whether I can claim it in the consumer court as I have handled it very carefully and not broken it. it came out due to I think the defect in the joining of the keys to the main unit. when I said the same to the service center, they said that it is impossible as the products get through quality check. friends, if everything is perfect, why do they have service centers and customer care for fault repair? nope. actually, as per the dell laptops, the function key combination works for different actions. For an example, if the laptop hasn't modified in the bios, as per dell, pressing f2 alone will close your y5. Pressing it again will turn it on. I'ts toggling. Since I've modified it with my bios, it works with fn key plus f2. Re: [AI] Fw: FW: Recruitment rules!
Dear umesha, do not feel angry, the situation in getting job in indian railways and nationalised banks is very difficult, though if you clear exams they will try to disqualify the V.I. Persons from job. because of that there are many backlog vacancies in these sectors. in this list there are more than 2000 members and more than 1000 people are job holders tell each one of them to write their experiences in getting job and job satisfaction after job securing, let them write sincerely. you are still student so you have very less experience in job scerching. Mr.Wanshi had written about a blind person dinaying job in state bank of india in shimoga in karnataka long back and i remember very few respondend to that mail. I am requesting the legal exparts of this list to come forward and help such people personally. Re: [AI] a dropbox question
There are two ways to do this. 1. Through firefox go to dropbox.com and loggin to your account. 2. search for the file you wish to share. 3. Once you find the link, press the applications key and press down arrow and hit enter on copy link location. 4. Paste the information in an Email. The person who receives the Email will be easily able to download the file by clicking on the link given by you. If you have installed free download manager, go to dropbox and loggin to your account. Find the file you wish to share and press enter on the link. An add download dialogue will appear. Press tab and press enter on the ok button. If you don't wish to download the file, you can easily cancel the download by pressing tab and pressing enter on the cancel button. If I am right, in this dialogue box itself, you can get the URL of the download link of the file. If I am wrong, don't worry. On the desktop, press enter on the free download manager icon. Press down arrow or the end key to go to the details of the last download. Press alt+enter there. In the coming up property dialogue box, You will be able to find the URL of the download link. Copy paste it to the Email relax and wait for your friend to give you a thanking reply. Hope this helps. Regards, P. Balaraman. Re: [AI] Subject: Re: Fw: FW: Recruitment rules!
Hi Often, the folly which many blind aspirants who get into the job market do not dwell into a very important area that, is to consider developing skill sets. Often, folks only concentrate in getting a job and they really don't know what job they can perform. With this cenerio, how can one expect the employer to know that. At government job one could probably get in because of the reservation policy, soon the reality surfaces there is no job worth speaking one is doing and one is simply a drab. This sends wrong signals to all arround and our case becomes all the more difficult. The most important thing is to specialise in some skill development one likes to do. The regretable part is that nobody listens to such councel andthey realisation comes very late when it is too late to build up skill sets nor throw the job. The option left is to just hangon what ever be the cost to self esteem. Re: [AI] Ms Excel Help Auto Fill
Hello Pavan, I can help you with the auto fill of a series of numbers, somehow I fail to do the same with weeks or months, not sure why because the logic is the same... Anyway, here is the Auto Fill for a series of numbers. In cell A1 type the number 1. Stay focused on A1 and use the shift key and the down arrow to select cells till A12 Then press these keys to bring up the autofill dialog box without disturbing your selection. Alt,E,I,S This should bring up the series dialog box. Let the step value be 1. Tab to the stop value and type in `12. Tab to the OK button and press enter. Re: [AI] Fw: FW: Recruitment rules!
Mr. VIVEK KAVYA, Your comments on legal experts are beyond my understanding. Do you remember the case of your friend? I was the one who responded you first and asked you to contact me off list. I got the files relating to the case but these files were badly scanned hence not readable. I informed Mr. Mobin khan regarding this and I have also told him to send me the files again. But no replies Frankly speaking, we’re not allowed to give such assurance to anybody at least on record. but I've also informed him that his case is very fit and chances are that order may come in his favour. Should I forward you that mail? I don't know how many legal experts/law professionals are there on the list, but for one thing I'm sure that we're here for you, we're here to protect your rights, and we’re here to solve your legal issues. Some Lawyers on the list are very senior and they may not find the time to respond the each mail, but whenever they get time they surely respond to mails. Have you ever gone to the organizations that are getting the nice money from the funding agencies in the name of free legal aid to the disabled? Have you ever asked any question to them regarding this? Mr KAVYA, you should have thought at least casting such derogating remarks on law professionals when you said that our legal experts in this list think that answering on list does not give them any fees so they keep silent on such issues!!! Read the subject line of prateek’s mail. It reads something “attention legal experts”! Do you know? Dear Umesha Your approach is good, I too believe in not presuming a denial unless specifically provided for in black and white. -- G. Re: [AI] Ms Excel Help Printing Pages using Page Numbers

If there is a file with 70 pages, assume details of Bangalore zone are in pages 11 to 16, a sited user can see this and give print accordingly. Whereas in my case when I highlight Bangalore zone, I will not know which page to print. Can someone help me whether there is any key in Jaws to make it read the current page details in Ms Excel. Stay focused on A1 and use the shift key and the down arrow to select cells till A12 Then press these keys to bring up the autofill dialog box without disturbing your selection. [AI] Developing skill sets to become employable
Dear Rajesh I have changed the subject line. Once when one is armed with skill sets, one can easily work out strategies to manage these variables. It is very important to realise that one would be doing that work for the rest of the career lifecycle and if that is a burden then it would far from being enjoyable and it would carry ones minimal attention. One can't expect excellence in it. Whereas if the job is something one is looking forward to do one can derive happiness and enjoyment performing it It is true, it may not be a easy task, because of disability to convince potential employers, if one has the realisation upfront, it would be less frustrating during the job hunt days. There are numerous examples of those who have decided to build up skill sets first did manage to get a placement matching their skill sets. Needless to emphasise, they have excelled in their field and enjoy their work. When working with large excel files having many pages, after formatting the sheet, a common problem I face is to print select pages. For Eg. I also submit that one of the ways to get around this problem is to print 'Selection' option. But this becomes difficult when multiple ranges have to be printed. If you have done everything as expected, you now should have cells from A1 to A12 filled with numbers from 1 to 12. Here is how to do the same with virtual ribbons on in JAWS 12 or 13. Follow the same steps to select the auto fill range. Use the alt key to get to the Home tab in the ribbon. Down arrow to Editing Submenu. Enter or Space bar on Fill button drop down. Down arrow and hit enter on series... Follow the same steps to define your step and stop value and complete the auto fill function. [AI] 'If I am not fit to fly, he is not fit to be a pilot'
The Hindu op ed The Hindu IGNORANT AND INSENSITIVE: There is an urgent need to educate people about the rights of the disabled. Photo: Nissar Ahmed Travelling by air is often not a very pleasant experience for a person with disability. Incidents of harassment are quite common when a passenger with disability travels by air on her own or his own. I narrate one such harrowing incident. Deplaned I was scheduled to travel to Goa to attend a conference organised by ADPAT of Mumbai, a non-governmental organisation. I was travelling by SpiceJet flight SG 308 from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport, Kolkata. I reached the airport at 7.05 a.m. on February 19, 2012. I checked in as usual and was escorted to the flight by an assistant and was comfortably seated. After a while I sensed a commotion around me and had the intuition that something was not quite right. One of the flight assistants asked for my boarding pass. Then I was asked to leave my seat and go with them. I was made to de-board, put in a car and bought back to the airport terminal. By this time, I was hysterical. I was not given any specific reason why I was made to de-board. I was then taken to the airline's office, and through the course of my argument with them I got to know that it was the captain of the aircraft, Utprabh Tiwari, who had a problem because I was a person with disability. The assistant manager and the other personnel appeared empathetic, but they said they were helpless as their attempt to convince the captain had failed. I demanded that they allow me to either board another flight or return the money. Assistant Manager Vishnu Ramesan said I could take the flight the next day - February 20. I asked him how he could give me an assurance that the incident would not be repeated. He said he had spoken to the higher authorities and action would be taken. I asked him for a written statement giving the reason for de-boarding me - which they refused to give, for obvious reasons. However, they accepted a written complaint from me. They dropped me home and gave me an assurance to pick me up the next morning to go to the airport. But I was unable to fly the next day because I was absolutely shattered and traumatised by the previous day's incidents and had to consult a physician. DGCA rules The point that clearly comes out here is the total lack of awareness on the part of the airline staff of the relevant rules. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued detailed Civil Aviation Requirements. Under Section 4.1 of the document on Carriage by Air of Persons with Disability and/ or Persons with Reduced Mobility (issued in May 2008), no airline has the authority to refuse a passenger with disability or reduced mobility from travelling by air along with the aid and appliances they require. Under Section 5.1, no medical clearance or special forms shall be insisted upon from persons with disabilities or persons with reduced mobility who only require special assistance at the airport for assistance in embarking/ disembarking and a reasonable accommodation in flight, who otherwise do not require any additional assistance. No medical clearance or special forms shall be insisted upon from persons with disabilities or persons with reduced mobility who only require special assistance at the airport for assistance in embarking/ disembarking and a reasonable accommodation in flight, who otherwise do not require any additional assistance. Under 5.2, medical clearance may be required only when the airline has received information that the passenger: a) suffers from any disease, which is believed to be actively contagious and communicable; b) who, because of certain diseases, or incapacitation may have or develop an adverse physical condition which could have an adverse effect during flight and on safety and emergency evacuation procedures; c) would require medical attention and/ or special equipment to maintain their health during the flights; d) there exists a possibility of medical condition aggravated during or because of the flight; I am a person with cerebral palsy - which is not a disease but a condition caused by damage to the brain. This is yet another incident that shows lack of awareness and a humane touch even among the so-called elite and educated people of society. A pilot or the captain of the flight holds a responsible position. This kind of behaviour from him is shameful. I urge the government, including the Ministries of Social Justice and Empowerment and Civil Aviation, to take up this issue as a serious matter. There is an urgent need to provide training to airline personnel at all levels. Such training should be conducted by people with disabilities. I request the Ministry of Civil Aviation to take serious action against SpiceJet, especially Captain Utprabh Tiwari. Any person with his mentality and attitude has no right to hold such a responsible position. If I am
