It looks like it's a city... and the city doesn't even have their own web site,
just a couple pages on the chamber's site.

Any “towns” in Illinois were incorporated before the 1872 Cities and Villages
Act. Cortland, IL likes to brag that it is the 3rd largest town in Illinois.
But that’s out of less than 20 remaining towns.

Illinois villages have exactly 6 trustees, cities have 6 or more aldermen. But
if you’re incorporated, after 1872, and you’re not a city, you’re a village. I
live in a village.

I’d guess if the tower site was the Demarc, the safety agency had a contract to
lease space on the tower, and you donated the equipment to the safety agency it
would all be kosher.

I’m not a fan of 4.9GHz for most applications personally – remember safety
agencies with higher priority in a disaster can shut down other networks to
prevent interference (for instance, if FEMA moves into an area they can tell
the city to shut down).

Personally I’d use a Part 101 band and be done with it. Once again though, if
the public safety agency owns the equipment they can license and only pay
coordination costs (no FCC fees). So I would lease the equipment to the
customer as part of the broadband services contract.

Thanks for saving me the Googling.

Well, then those aren't held to any geographic constraints. Townships (as
mentioned) are usually a county (some states are weird and call them parishes)
cut up into equal pieces.

So when you edit/add the site information on the

B5c in 4.9 GHz is Part 90 Subpart Y certified, should get you 200
Mbps+ aggregate in it’s max allowable channel configuration in that band. Great

Village of this, Village of that. That's the legal term for most small
towns in Illinois. When you think 'City of ' around here, it's usually
like Aurora, Naperville, Joliet, etc. Except it's just "The City" for
Chicago in podunk terms.

B5c in 4.9 GHz is Part 90 Subpart Y certified, should get you 200 Mbps+
aggregate in it’s max allowable channel configuration in that band. Great
distance for it.

I had never heard the term "village" used in North America until recently.

I’m not a fan of 4.9GHz for most applications personally –

Personally I’d use a Part 101 band and be done with it. Once

Re: [AFMUG] 4.9 Ghz PTP - Can I...

2016-07-26 Thread Mark Radabaugh
We have installed a number of B5's in 4.9 as backhauls for the sheriff's
department. They have been working fine. Only complaint is the minimum 20Mhz
channel size - a option for 5 or 10Mhz would better match the required
bandwidth.

To answer your question, you cannot use 4.9GHz to provide internet service,
regardless of whom the end user is. Commercial traffic cannot pass over public

I’m not a fan of 4.9GHz for most applications personally – remember safety

Just the B5c? Or is the B5 certified as well? We might need to change an

Re: [AFMUG] 4.9 Ghz PTP - Can I...

2016-07-25 Thread Eric Kuhnke
I don't think it would be possible to meet the equivalent of ETSI class 3
with such a small antenna... They could easily (from a regulatory
standpoint) allow higher Tx power for 24 GHz unlicensed FDD or TDD links if
the antennas met a criteria of certain sidelobe dB falloff at specific
number of degrees off azimuth, which could only be met by a 60cm/2ft
diameter dish.

SAF Integra 18 or 23 GHz 1024QAM in one polarity? Choose either the
integrated antenna version or slipfit if you think you might want 3'/4'
antennas or re-use the radios someday in the future for a longer link.

County government, you're probably talking about a 36 month+ service term,
so work the cost of the SAF radios into the NRC+MRC over time. ROI
shouldn't be too hard if your county understands the cost of buying five
nines service with an SLA.

Agreed that 4.3 miles is really short to use 11 GHz.

B5c in 4.9 GHz is Part 90 Subpart Y certified, should get you 200 Mbps+
aggregate in it’s max allowable channel configuration in that band. Great
distance for it.

Exalt for the 23 gig gear. I think our cost was around 6500.

They want us to move the link to another location will be a 4.3 mile link, so
AF24 is out.

I need a link to do 100 meg now and be able to do 200 when requested, I want

What is available for PTP in 4.9Ghz?

If not, I could use a B11, but I hate to waste 11 Ghz spectrum on a short link.

Suggestions in Licensed 18Ghz?

BTW they are price sensitive.

Our county folks have Cisco 4.9Ghz radios but are replacing with 3.65 GHz
due to hundreds of Radwins used across border by state and federal
agencies. I know Airaya had some 4.9GHz ptp solutions I know in 5GHz
once they go up they stay up pretty solidly.
