[arr] Re: Namakame.....is the only song I love in Komaram Puli

2010-09-05 Thread Dinesh Scaran
Your music from your Jingle days and the 90s were purely around the carnatic
expertise in you...why dont you come back to this realm???

Santosh, this is something i have said a few times in the the group in the past
few months. His 90s songs had strong Carnatic flavor in them, and thus this is
why people always says his 90s r the best. But if im not mistaken, in a recent
interview ARR said that he doesnt want to use carnatic as he is afraid the
songs will sound similar to another song frequently and that is why he is
trying as much as he can to stay away (not his exact word though) from it.

But in my honest Opinion, ARR should use more carnatic bases in his songs
nowadays. This does not mean i want ARR to stop his innovativeness, but THE
ARRAHMAN STAMP is all about this because he started his career with it and
people are remembering his songs for this factor and that is why all this
debate on 90s and post 90s songs come about. Songs like Ennavale, Anjali Anjali
and such, not only they were extremely modern, but also very Indianized as
well. Something that is A.R.RAHMAN all bout... :)

IMHO, En Uyir Tozhiye from Kangalal Kaithi Sei post 2000 is by far the most
most most soulful melody from A.R.Rahman in recent years which will never fade,
ever! :)

Among this year's releases, im more attached to Endhiran album as a whole. I
listen to all the 7 songs in loop, which was never the case in VTV or Raavanan.
Endhiran marks that enjoyable yet classy factor clearly in every min of the
song in the album..

Endhiran, truly a 101% A.R.Rahman stamp album :)

Taimur and Kishore, its ok to be dissapointed over the album. But to say the
album is for kids, was kind of unbearable and an insult to us who r loving it
tremendously. Seriously, the album had the typical Shankar - A.R.Rahman combo
punch. I feel i was listening to a Kadhalan + Boys album. Very youthful
(Kadhalan) and modern (Boys) as well. I will post my review soon, ofcource it
wont be musically detailed, but it will be filled with praises and some critics
along it.

In short, Endhiran is the most youthful and futuristic album from A.R.Rahman
since Boys. Period.

[arr] Madhushree goes missing in the Tamil and Telugu versions... to ARR Sir

2010-07-30 Thread Dinesh Scaran
Greeting A.R.Rahman sir, i seriously do hope this message reach you sir.
Madhushree has tweeted that she has sung all 3 versions (Tamil, Telugu and
Hindi) version of her song in Endhiran. This has given us Madhushree fans a BIG
dream. But we was disapointed with sir only retaining her voice in the Hindi
version. We know you know the best, but it really shattered our dreams. The
Madhushree's voice in your composition simply means MAGIC. For instance the
ghazal songs of Tehzeeb, Sandai Kozhi Kozhi - Aayitha Ezhutu, Marudhani -
Sakarakatti, Vaaji Vaaji - Sivaji, etc etc...

I do hope Sir will compensate with giving us more Madhushree numbers in the
future... I seriously hope...

Agreed, Dilse/Uyire comes way behind those albums of Mani-ARR u mentioned. But
i personally feel Kandukoindain Kandukoidain was a much more matured
composition of ARR compared to Dil Se. Or should i say it reached me better,
because of certain personal factors. Every each song had its charm and it was
very intact to the Tamil culture and literature. It was a dream to have a
Bharathiyar poem with A.R.Rahman's touch. Kannamoochi was a brilliant score. I
remember, during the Top 10 songs show at that time, the host explained what
and how the Raagams was used in the song, and it had a template which is so
complicated and unconventional yet it sounded extremely mind-blowing and sweet
to the ears. :). i dun think u should just dismis the album just like that. IF
u listen to the album now, and if there is someone to review the album now with
complete music knowledge, u will see what kind of album this is and its a sin
to say such about this album :)

Nope, thats not correct! ARR didnt attend because of Jai Ho concerts, not
  because of Tamil protests.
IIFA has given awards to some weird nominations this time (not only in
Music categories), perhaps it was different jury this time. Hoping to have
  better results next year onwards.

[arr] Semmozhiyana Tamizh Mozhi.... True enough.... Please stand up and take a bow !

2010-05-30 Thread Dinesh Scaran
I would like to openly express my special thanks to A.R.Rahman for giving us
such a beautiful number. Its impossible for any Tamilans to hear this song and
not get a goosebumps. Especially Shruti Hassan's portion followed by the
chorus. Just marvelous!

It was so heart warming to see all the Tamil singers performing in A.R.Rahman's
songs. Its been 6 years since Harini sang in A.R.Rahman's composition, and
Bombay Jayashree, 13 years. Its another great thing to see P.Suseela singing
for ARRahman after 15 years. Great to see a song fully performed by leading
Tamil singers and beautiful lyrics about Tamil language.

One part it says, A lively language, a world language which will live and
grow forever, its our language!. It simply will give u the goosebumps. Such
inspiring lyrics. And they way the singers render it, hats off to all the
singers.

Gautham Menon beautifully shot the video, and Anthony's editing. Its spell
bounding... the Gautham Menon-ARRahman combo continues to rock!

After listening to this song, the love for my Tamil language has grown
tremendously... Such divine song from A.R.Rahman.

I read some of the members here was complaining about Blaaze's portion. But i
really feel it was very appropriate. Showing the Tamilans are rocking in all
genre, even in Rap. Loved it...!

Tamil Mozhi Vazhge! A.R.Rahman Vazhge!

Taimur, i have been listening to Ravanan songs for a few days, in my car or
when im using the pc, and i feel otherwise. This album would easily find its
place in the top 5 of Mani-ARR combo. Lovely songs. It has that typical
ARR-Mani touch. Esp Usere poguthey, Keda Kari and Khili Re.The rest sounds new,
but its rocking 2 bro. I think u should give it more time. :)

Btw,im not sure why everyone was criticizing Anuradha Sriram in Kaate Siriki...
I think she sounds cool there. After listening to the Hindi version, im
guessing the Tamil number was recorded first? coz the Hindi version has
Anuradha's rendition in the second interlude. Ranjha Ranjha sounds good too.
Rekha sounds great. But the energy that Anuradha provided is really great, not
sure why its being condemned...

Be here, now with Rahman's music. Enjoy the journey. The best way to enjoy
AR's music is to live with his music in the present tense, let the goose
pimples/emotions flow, and just run with it.forget comparing, forget
over-analyzing, loosen up on expectations. I mentioned some of these points
in my first review of the album...the importance of being present minded with
his music and in the moment.

cool bro, i guess ur a Shreya fan. i love her voice too. but something in Khili

the Tamil version too... hmmm she has a very unique voice

takes the former to a completely different plane. Every line for her is sung
with several little nuances that make it more special for me.
Keda Kari = Kata Kata, for me. It would have been Keda Kari Kata Kata if it
had not been for Kunal. His voice in the latter together with Ila is just
 amazing.

There is something about this girl's (Reena Baradwaj) voice that spelled

Thank u Gomz and Vinayakam :D. Haha. Ohh yes Vinayakam, totally forgotten bout
it. I liked Lakeer for the additional 3 songs, Esp Sadiyaan. Thats a beautiful
melody. and i liked the song by the Viva Girls. The remakes were not so nice.
Nacheley surely was kickass song, but i guess the element of the
panchabootangal went missing in this. I think Rhythm as an album comes in a
package. Each of the song sounds very appropriate and connected in the album.
Thats y i recommended it, guess it should not fall under the Non

  9. Boys (Amazing album, it was a second Roja for ARR in Tamil. This album

On the dubbed albums, here r the once u SHOULD not miss.

1.Alaipayuthey (Original version of Saathiya) - Listen to Pacchai Niramey,
Hariharan gave the whole song such life. He sung the song as if he is
whispering those beautiful lyrics into the lady's ears. Such soft and
delicate song. Sneghidene was beautiful as the male chorus had a very
haunting magic in it. And Sadhana did a wonderful job in the Tamil/Telugu
version. U should listen to know what i mean. And Evano Oruvan is such a
powerful song. Such sadness in the song. Was totally missing in that Hindi
version. And ARR used this song as BGM so beautifully in Alaipayuthey.
Really emoted the scenes so well. Yaaro Yaarodi is too Tamil folkish to
  suit
the Hindi lyrics. But im surprised how ARR did manage to give it the right
feel for Chalka. Still Yaaro Yaarodi had a very rustic feel. Kadhal
  Sadugudu
was soo sweet. A real contrast compared to Adnan' Sami in Aye Udi Udi. Its
like 2 different songs. U should listen to Tamil version. it will be a new

2.Thiruda Thiruda - Seriously, the Chinese girl's work in Thee Thee is
unmatchable... such beautifuly rendered. lovely, and powerful. Ofcource,
  all
the tracks should be listened to be enjoyed.

3.Uyire - All the songs had a different feel. When u listen to Uyire, u

Subject: [arr] After Rythm it's VTV!

After Rythm it should be VTV in his Filmography.

I think so. how? The ARR magic!

Rythm is the last ARR album which had ARR's magic. ARR's magic in his music
 can't be explained; it is meant for experience; the music speaks for itself;
there is no need for promoters.

After Rythm, there is not a complete ARR album which speaks for itself. Of
course there are numbers here and there (Newyork Nagaram, and a few), but
not a complete album (alteast 95% magical?). if you remember how you've
fallen in love with his music right from Roja, you will accept this. Those
are the moments! (It may be harsh; but i am not here to insult his works in
this decade! Eventhough they are not having the magic, they are not ordinary
scores to be created, just that the satisfaction is missing.)

Before Rythm, every album is afresh and a delight to own. We just play the
cassettes again and again, unitl we have the next album. No complaints at all.

After Rythm, the music of any of his albums didn't speak for themselves, most
of the time, we fans were kind of advocating for them; like 'you need to hear
it for another two more weeks, and you will like it', 'hey, he has tried
something new which is not meant for current generation but will be
appreciated in the future', 'i didn't like it initially, but tried hearing it
after one year it sounded really good, so try the same', 'you need to have
some extraordinary musical senses to understand his music', etc. May be the
albums have extraordinary music but they are liked only by a limited number
of fans. (Remember, Roja to Rythm has extraordinary music and at the same
time liked by everybody). I think if you hear any album for two or more
weeks, your mind will accept it and you will start humming it, but you won't
feel the refreshness. (What's the need to listen to it?)

What happend to him? Where is his magic? Is he saturated? Or am i getting
old? Is it becuase of abundance of his kind of music composers? Is there any
problem with my senses to capture it, or has he tried something which is
meant for future. No clue. That too for a decade. Still unanswered.

I am a music fan who has no idea about technicalities of the music creation.
I don't want to know any of those technical details in order to enjoy the
music. It just has to make us silent and listen to it. It has to renovate us
to keep us going. ARR just came in and provided that refreshness (at a time
when the music industry started becoming monotonous). I just need the same
experience he has given us in the past. I was a bit of disappointed everytime
an album released after Rythm. But I(we) waited for his return, since he is
capabable of returning the magical experiance.

Here comes 2010, here comes VTV, here comes his magic! He is back! This is
what we are waiting for. Just play it and listen it. You will be renovated.
Absolutely no complaints. Everybody loves the music. (You can refer to the
VTV related posts in this group; 95% agree it is awesome). The BGM is perfect
and fits the movie. Now it becomes close to our heart. Thanks to Gowtham!

I know people, who are not anybody's fans, after hearing 'Hosanna and Omana
Pennae', say, 'kaetka kaetka puthusa iruka; he still has the same magic even
after 15 years'. This is the same we have experienced in the 90s with his
music. And, this is important for his eternal success. We don't want him to
give any less of what he has already gifted to us. (Like you want to see
sachin scoring 100 in every match). I don't want people to fail, either side!

Now, I have retained the hope that he will give us more such gifts.

Now, I am happy and going back to listen VTV.

 Thanks for reading!

Rajib, you just insulted the Tamil language. How could u say its a horrible
language? Though the Tamil that is being used in songs r actually the actual
Tamil language, compared to the once being used by the Tamils in the daily
conversations. If anyone uses the actual Tamil to speak to us, he will be
whacked. Lol. Coz the Language is that complicated and pure.

I agree Uyire is a better album than Dil Se, any day. But i prefered Jodha
akhbar in Hindi compared to Tamil.

Vimal, its really 'sin' not to listen to Alaipayuthey. Its by far one of ARR's
strongest, solid album. The whole charm was lost in Saathiya. Do listen. I
recommend it 200%.

interview in Tamil ...it sounds awful / Horrible ...but in his songs ...it's
 really heavenly ..

Lemme first recommend some tamil versions of Hindi albums of his what is NOT
 to be missed by anyone..

 Jodha akbar Tamil
Uyire ( Dil se Tamil )

I think tamil version of these two is better than Hindi...don't know how
many people have listen to these

anyway...let's come to the point .. I am still in Ravan hangover ... Keta
kari will take hell lot of time to sink in for me ... as i liked the hindi
 version a lot ...

we r gonna get 6 versions of Ranjha ranjha :-P i can't stop smiling when i
think about ... 6 versions of one single song ... Has it ever happened with
any artist ? any Idea ?

very sure ARR composed the songs keeping the visuals in mind. ARR is a person

Re: [arr] Ranking of Mani-ARR albums

2010-04-30 Thread Dinesh Scaran
My ranking :

1.Thiruda Thiruda (Cant explain enough of the beauty of this album)
2.Iruvar (A score which surprised us all. Poo Koodiyin was a beautiful tribute
to MSV and the 1960s music, Narumugaiye was magical and the brilliant Hello
Mr.Ethirkatchi... wow...!!).
3.Alaipayuhey (Manasum Alai Paindethe...All the songs didnt create ripples, but
it was a tsunami... Sneghidne and Pacchai Nirame r evergreen. Yaaro Yarodi was
a new genre... Kadhal Sadugudu...my goodness... beautiful...)
4.Kannathil Muttamittal (an album which spells Quality in every corner of the
songs. Vellai Pookal, Kannathil Muttamittal, and Vidai Koode engal Naade. The
lyrics in Vellai Pookal... hmmm... it shows why Vairamuthu-ARR combo is
unbeatable...)
5.Roja (Pudhu Vellai Malai, Kadhal Rojave = sheer beauty...)
6.Aayitha Ezhutu (Yaakai Thiri, Sandha Kozhi kozhi, Hey goodbye nanba top
class quality songs...)
7.Bombay (Kannalane, Uyire Uyire and the Theme music was the best. The rest was
very passable, IMHO.)
8.Uyire/Dil Se (Uyire was a better album IMHO, Nenjinile was rendered
beautifully by S.Janaki [listen to the way she finished the song, she's a
legend!]. Thaiyya Thaiyya by Sriram had more energy and power in it.
Poongatrile... Do i need to say it? Its just divine...the lyrics had a soul in
it...)
9.Guru (Ay Hairathe and Tere Bina was beautiful not doubt .But the typical
Mani-ARR magic was seen nowhere in this album except for the theme music track
sung by ARR and Chitra.)

Yet to listen to Raavanan, as it is not released. Not interested in Raavan as i
always give preference to Mani-ARR-Vairamuthu combo. Nothing beats this combo
in India. So ill give the respect for it and wait for Raavanan.

its quite hurtful that the Tamil version is being sidelined in many ways but we
cant blame the artists (ARR,actors,Mani) because its the producers decision on
to have the audio launch or not. Its more complicated than what we think it is.
We cant give preference to our wish once ur in a business field but for the
delay in releasing the Raavanan audio (what? about 10-15 days from the hindi
audio?), im expecting to see something more than what the Ravan audio has.
Perhaps an extra song or a Theme music. If its just the same, then i have no

On May 5 Sony Music will launch straight into the southern market, the
audio of Mani Ratnam's Raavanan. Sources have confirmed that there will be
  no formal audio launch.

The reasons given out are the non-availability of the stars mainly AR

However Big Pictures and Sony Music are planning to hold a promotional

2.Duet (My God, what an album...!! actually, i would rate Duet album higher

3.Karuthamma (pure Tamil folk music with modern music/beats...classic!... both
the version of Porale Ponnuthaiyi is a gem).

4.Iruvar (Wow, wow, wow... says it all)

5. En Swase Katre ( the tittle song, En Swase Katre can easily sweep off any
songs easily... such soulful song Theendai another great carnatic tune
blended well with contemporary music, Thirakathe Kaate kulle such blissful
song and the ever popular Kadhal Nayagara)...

6.Sangamam ( such complete carnatic album from ARRahman. Its just beautiful...
too good... Sowkiyama, a carnatic tune with saxaphone playing the carnatic
notes too good...)

7.Uzhavan ( all the songs r too tasty. all the songs have marvelous tunes.
Pennale Pennale is even sweeter than sugar itself. give it a try)

these albums speaks Quality+Immortality by itself. If u havent gone through

A very important note, because the source of the DVD comes from PYRAMID

AJ and co., how does it bother u if fans like Taimur express his feelings here?
i find it very genuine. i think its quite simple for u guys to just delete the
msgs from ur inbox or just dont read it isnt it? If u still insists on replying
to it, do it with maturity. ur last line shows ur far from it. If its his way
of expressing is such, why do u go down so low in answering his reply with such
words to describe a person? And another thing, U dont own the group to expect
what people should and should not post. as a member, just read what u like and
reply on it, if u dont like, ignore. if u really want to say something on that
issue, say it with respectable words. simple as a b c. Taimur has not used any
low graded words to describe the current ARR songs or even u. So why must u say
ur 'sick' of him and such?Just appreciating ARR songs doesnt mean ur a good ARR
fan. U need to learn to be like ARR. Be humble and tolerate things well.u dont
see taimur bashing people who praises his post 2000 style. R u on the same page
bro?

Back on the issue, his Hindi songs r not reaching the same set of audience as
for back then. for ur information, the last hindi arr album that was a hit down
here in Malaysia was Taal. Play any songs from Rang De Basanti, Ghajini or
Delhi 6 for that matter, people will go huh, what songs r these. Being in
India u will not know the difference. Well then again, ARR has to set 2 things
with his songs. One is his standard (creativity, etc etc, u name it, he has it
all) and whether the songs reached all levels of people ( lacking allot
nowadays). I dunno if the common layman is expecting a 90s song, but certainly
his current songs r not reaching them. U dont hear the estate people listening
to Aayitha Ezhutu or even Sivaji the boss. But back then, everyone will play
Minsara Kannavu or Indian songs (remember, back then, that ARR style was NEW
and bodiless as well).

Taimur is very much speaking the voice of a common layman here. Thats y i see
him as a very genuine person. His thoughts very much reflects the people out
there. If ur angry with him,it means ur angry with the truth then. Why i say so
because i always get the very same comment from many, many, many people. They
tend to convey their thoughts to me because im an ARRahman fan. Whether its on
the issue that ARR's current style is inferior to his 90s standard as what we
brand of, or whether the people's taste have changed, its debatable. but its a
fact his filmi songs have lesser impact on people nowadays. Im really glad he
has found a new ground to explore (Hollywood). See Jai Ho. He is having his
Roja there. He has a whole new process and set of audience to awe. Im happy
for it. And ARR songs will always be superior to any other md's songs in term
of quality. No doubt. His songs could very much be a study material because of
his various patterns and arrangments that is found no where in any corner of
the earth.

with this, all i wish is that fans here should be an ARR fan by adapting some
good qualities from ARR himself. Please oh please, ARR is not just known for
his songs, but also his angelic qualities... Please adapt them... well atleast
use them in his own home(group).

variation being changed in AR's songs is seen nowadays a lot. It
irritates the listener and makes him think that where the song is
going. Beera is good but short. lot of beera beera repetitions, they
could have made the song longer with 2 stanzas. I have bn following
ARR form 92 so i am used to this initial not liking, and then
getting impressed. But still, I feel this album is a disappointment.
It makes me wonder whether is this the combination which gave Vellai

This album is not going to be liked by everyone. You're right, the

Rawat, I really don't care to go back to SdM to tell you why I did not like
the album. I know that would disappoint you that I am just writing it off.
But I did invest a lot of time listening to the album and it somehow never
stuck with me. I felt it was disappointing because it seemed like Rahman on
an off day. I'm stepping on another landmine here, but it seemed more like
the work of Rahman who made Tenali rather than the one who made Delhi 6. It
happens to fans, especially to me. I worship Rahman, but I do not like all
his work. SdM is, for me, along with Tenali, his weakest album. It is, bad!

Vimaljk and especially Indmov Buff, yes, I think it was a little high handed
to make such a blanket statement. But consider this... all Mani's
masterpieces are in Tamil. Watch Aayutha Ezhuthu and Yuva back to back and
see which has the Mani Ratnam touch it's AE. Yuva is a disappointment
compared with AE. And think about it, AE is itself considered to be Mani's
weaker efforts (though it is one of my favorites). Then you have Guru, which,
as I already said, felt weak for me. Before this, you had Dil Se.., which
underwhelmed me the first time I saw it, but as I thought more and more about
it, it really stuck with me. But still, Dil Se.., after Iruvar? I just have a
theory that Mani does not have that ingrained knowledge and instinct of Hindi
that he has of Tamil. That ingrained knowledge and instinct is the Mani
Ratnam touch for me. Remember Pyramid Natarajan in Alai Paayuthey? Remember
Bharathiraja in AE? There aren't such characters in his Hindi
  movies.
So, when Mani ends up making another Hindi movie, for me, I have low
expectations, since I feel the Mani Ratnam touch is missing. To overcome
that, he needs a powerful script with an entertaining story. That is what I
want in Raavan. Will it be better in Tamil? I don't know, but I do think it
would be better. (On a side note, Is it still called Asokavanam, or is it
now Raavan even in Tamil? Last I remember was that there was some problem
 with calling it Asokavanam.)

As for the Mani-ARR combo, I am not saying that other directors are better
with ARR. All I'm saying is that we got Jodha Akbar and Delhi 6 with other
directors but the last taste of the Mani-ARR combo was Guru, which was, I
feel, not as good as the other 2 albums I mentioned.
There was a lot of expectation, hype and hoopla that ARR was working with
Gautham Menon, and that album turned out to be amazing. I want that magic
back with ARR and Mani. I want a great movie with a great background score
 and a classic soundtrack.

And finally, I love Aayutha Ezhuthu. I love the soundtrack and the movie. I
revisit the movie at least once in 6 months. For me, that was a hat-rick of
great Mani movies, following AP and KM. With three movies that I loved so
much, it's no wonder that Guru pissed me off so much that I am wary of the
 next Mani Ratnam movie!!

Another minor grouse I have is, after Mani worked with Suriya in AE (and I
think he also dubbed for Abhishiek for the Tamil version), how can he cast
anyone else?? For me, even an actor like Vikram, who is of such high caliber,
is just miles behind the phenomenon that is Suriya!

 Feel free to disagree!

Kathir is back!
IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, March 24, 2010]

It was making the rounds in film circles about `Kadhal Desam' Kathir's next
project. Join IndiaGlitz in finding out more.

The director of some of the best cult love stories in Tamil, Kathir, after
heavy homework is starting a new project, that sources say will be a bi-lingual.

Kathir has zeroed in Telugu actor Varun Sandesh of `Happy Days' fame. Varun is
already half a dozen movies old in neighbouring Tollywood, and sources say that
the director feels Varun has a pleasing lover boy image.

Sources further reveal that, a Telugu producer M.Sudhakar has come forward to
produce the movie under Sri Maha Ganapathi Films banner and the shooting will
start by August. Director Kathir is yet to decide on the other members of the
cast and crew.

The movie will mark a new beginning for Kathir who has been in exile for

a summer release, named `Maro Charithra', a remake of the classic Kamal Hassan

A classic example is Roja.

lyricist, more than the tunes. When the song has to express strong emotions,
i would prefer VM and when the song has to be a peppy one just for the
moment Vaali rocks with his mischievous lyrics.

Eagerly waiting for Ravanan, and also enthiran, VM had recently read few

Subject: [arr] Revisiting Taj Mahal Album | A Mammoth Innovation!!

Producer and Director : Bharathi Raja
  Music : A R Rahman
  Lyrics: Vairamuthu
Cast : Manoj, Riya Sen, Radhika and Revathy

Pls Note: The revisit is too lengthy..my apologies for that..i couldnt make
it short...coz my feelings for this album is infinitely large..!!

The very name Taj Mahal evokes a lot of passion, romance and warmth! When
films with such titles goes to the hands of someone like the Meastro A R
Rahman, it gets all new definition and stands in its own glory and vigour!
Like how the Emperor Shahjahan built the legendary monument for his lady
love, ARR has built this glittering golden palace inside our hearts with
his signature styled experimentations and mammoth innovations of new sounds
which we never heard of before..!

Bharathi Raja - A R Rahman duo may have given many timeless classics, but
for me, Taj Mahal stands as tall as the Taj Mahal monument! Taj Mahal was
originally planned to have a totally urbanite modern saga as its plot..but
Bharathi Raja, with his proven rural, rustic themes, made a U turn and chose
to make it as another village based story! He launched his own son Manoj in
the lead role along with the very raw, young Riya Sen. Somehow the
chemistry never worked between these two and the film's fate turned turtle
at the box office..! Nevertheless, it could boast of possessing one of the
  world's best musicians magical scores..!

Thiruppachhi Aruvaala | Palghat Sriram, Chandran, Clinton Cerejo, Kalpana

Belonging to the league of Adrenalin pumping, high spirited, aggressive
songs of ARR, Thiruppachhi Aruvaala ignites some of our deep buried
anguishes. If you give a deep ear towards the instruments in the initial
moments of the song, you feel shell shocked..! ARR dwells just with a basic
beats rhythm coming out from that basic drums which you see in your
everyday life on the streets in the hands of local help seekers! Giving
company to these drum beats are the cool whistles blown by probably ARR
himself! The singers ooze out aggressiveness in their full throated
rendition. Palghat Sreeram is one of those able singers, whom this world
should take notice of! He,along with Chandran, brings in the perfect
attitude required for the song. Another unnoticed singer Kalpana haunts
with her lower octaves lines, particularly in the lines where she makes fun
of the male.Clinton Cerejo, provides able support in the second interlude
  with some wierd western lyrics!!
ARR surprises us with some western vintage beats in the second interlude.
  Total Energy booster..!!!

Adi Manja Kizhange | Febi Mani, Ganga Sitharasu, Feju, Kanchana

Short and Sweet All-Female , fun filled song!! ARR has constantly
belted out the all-woman songs since his Kaadhalan days (Indirayo Ival
Sundariyo) to the latest Gendha Phool. Adi Manja Kizhange offers some
fun and happy moments both audically and visually! Again ARR goes with a
single Rhythm pattern of basic drums with some vague female hummings
interlaced. Hats off to all those aforementioned 4 harmony singers who have
been with ARR since his Roja days..! It seems like ARR created such a song
only to thank them for this long association. !

Kizhakke Nandavanam | Theni Kunjarammal, Febi Mani, Ganga Sitharasu,
  Feju,Kanchana

The same harmony singers continue their spell, but this time in the
company of the most unusually sounding singer in ARR's career of songs
ever...Theni Kunjarammal. .!!! Everytime this old woman croons for ARR, the
song gets its own undefined charm!! She starts the song by calling out the
names of many women Machhakanni, Mayyilkunju. .. which are absolutely
hilarious to hear!!!ARR offers a very light hearted comic effect
composition with some funny beats..! The awesome foursome singers then
  start

i have clearly stated there its is not soulful in my definition. Lets put it
this way. These are some of the soulful songs from ARR for me, u may compare
them with Delhi 6 songs and see why i do not view them as what u do :

1.Anjali - Duet
2.Kannake Mai Azhagu - Pudhiya Mugam
3.En Uyir Tozhiye - KKS
4.Sonnalum - Kadhal Virus
5.Hawa Sun Hawa - Ada
6.Ennavale - Kadhalan
7.Marghali - Sangamam
8.Tu Muskura - Yuvvraaj
9.Hosanna - VTV
10.Hum Hai Iss Pal Yahan - Kisna
11.Kadhalenum - Kadhalar Dhinam

and ofcource the list can go on, but these r the 1 strike my mind for now. For
me, the songs of d6 r just not in the caliber of these songs. But im happy its
a hit for ARR and it has hit the right chords for many, good for him and for u
too. Its not a loss for u and its not a loss for me. ARR has compensate for me
more than enough with VTV. Cheerz

agreed, new kind from ARR and ofcource in general. Masakalli had a very special
twist in the song, something unusual but gripping and catchy. This song stands
out clearly, no doubt. I do not wish 2 comments on other songs, as i dont want
to hurt the feelings of the lovers of the song and create a huge war here.
Already known enough there are some very 'well mannered' members around with
extremely 'polite' manner to express their view.

Anyhow, Yuvvraaj, VTV, ADA were albums of gold. Each seconds of the songs in
the album spells magic really well for me. Esp VTV and Ada. All the songs were
made out of gold. Truly happy to have these kinda albums around when 'kuthu'
and disco songs r the preferable choices of the people nowadays.

[arr] Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa has great chemistry

2010-02-25 Thread Dinesh Scaran
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya review
Movie
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya
Director
Gautham Vasudev Menon
Music
A R Rahman
Cast
Silambarasan, Trisha, Kitty, Babu Antony, Ganesh

By Moviebuzz

Three cheers to Gautham Vasudev Menon, the big daddy of romance is back with a
bang! His Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya (VTV) is pure magic. This one works and grabs
us where it matters; VTV is straight from the heart.

10 years after his candy floss Minnale, Menon's VTV is a far more mature
Valentine. The film is backed by awe inspiring performance and precisely one
thing going for it and that's the chemistry between its lead actors
Silambarasan and Trisha, Manoj Paramahamsa's eye-catching frames, great
screenplay and a stunning climax that is riveting.

It is return of romance and will strike a chord with anyone who's loved and
felt the unbearable anguish of loss, and knows the feeling that binds people in
love together. Menon's creativity is completely home grown though it looks
autobiographical.

Karthik (Simbu) a mechanical engineer dreams of becoming a film director meets
Jessy (Trisha) a Malayalee Christian girl, an IT professional and it is love at
first sight. She lives on the top floor with her strict father (Babu Antony),
mother and an aggressive brother while Karthik and his family have rented out
the lower portion of the house.

The first half is all about how he passionately woo her, follows her to Kerala,
with his good friend Ganesh (Ganesh) a cameraman and his mentor who was
instrumental in him becoming director KS Ravikumar's AD. Karthik's passionate
wooing melts Jessy who finally succumbs to his ardent love. But her family and
religion stands in the way of true love.

The romantic track is engaging because it's innocent, simple and the director
nails it right. Silence convey so much more than irreverent banter, and nowhere
is this more evident than in the interactions between Karthik and Jessy, whose
romance is conveyed through their conversations, eyes and longing expressions.
The credit goes to its lead pair who invests sincerity and genuine enthusiasm
while attacking their roles.

However, VTV is not devoid of minor flaws. It has too many songs which are
experimental and are non-structured that act as speed breaker. The pre climax
song is unwanted, still Hosanna.. and Aaromale… are the pick of the lot.
The film at 2 hours and 35 minutes can be trimmed by at least 10 minutes in the
second half to make it as racy and interesting as the first half.

Count among its major plus points- the technical wizardry of the film. Manoj
Paramahamsa's camera and his colour combination especially the night silhouette
shots in the backwaters have a touch of class. Art director's Rajeevan's choice
of interiors and mixing it with the exteriors are brilliant. Antony's editing
without using any gimmicks makes the narration silken smooth.

The film belongs to its lead actors. For sure, Simbu has come a long way from
his finger wagging punch line spewing days. It's a joy to watch him in the
climax scene when he speaks about his love by taking ordinary lines and
delivering them so convincingly, and never miss a beat. His sheer agility in
the romantic interludes, his composure, his dead pan humour and his tears in
the climax are tangible and real, giving it a heart warming immediacy.

As a woman torn by the dualities of her existence, Trisha looks good and
delivers her career best performance in a knock-out role. Her costumes, body
language and gait changes as the story shifts from Chennai to New York via the
backwaters of Kerala. There is a super cameo by Ganesh (one of the producers of
VTV), which is earthy and outrageous as the cameraman friend of the hero and
raises huge chuckles and the bar of the film.

The film is a must watch for those who cares for cinema of sense and substance.
It stresses the fact that Tamil cinema has to break the mould if it aims to
grab eyeballs. Gautham Menon has crafted a movie that will stay in our hearts
for a long, long time.

Verdict- Very Good

happy with what he is doing, its great. ARR on the other hand has a very periya

'I am happy for him as well' or 'I am glad yet another musician has been

appreciation instead. Rahman on the otherhand when asked about IR's
Padmabushan, came out with IR and I are family.  Both being awarded the

2010-01-21 Thread Dinesh Scaran
dear Jaya, its known that Anbil Avan has gospel songs influence. Was mentioned
by VTV team few weeks back. And as we all know, Harris has many of his song's
root from gospel songs. this could be the link.

 Dear Groups,

The words Nee vanavil lagaa aval vanam elaaga in Anbil Avan song is similar
to Vennilave Velli Velli Nilave pokum edam ellam in Vettaiyadu
Villaiyaadu.  I am not saying same tunes was used.  But same genre was used.
Is it so? I feel like that. If anyone feel the please share.

Re: [arr] Gautham-A.R.Rahman combo rocks!

2010-01-15 Thread Dinesh Scaran
Exactly guys, the visual + music is just mindblowing. I see another Mani-ARR
combo with Gautham-ARR combo.

Manaf, actually i did. was expecting Madhushree atleast in 1 song, since it an
ARR album. But as we know, Gautham is totally against using north indian
singers. i remmeber Madhushree sang in Gautham's movie
Pacchaikilimuthucharam, but her version was not used and gautham asked harris
to record the same song with Bombay Jayashree and used hers instead. Harris is
kind enough to include Madhushree's version in the cd.

I seriously wish my message here either reaches ARR or Gautham. VTV album
is such a quality album, i want more of this combo to keep on working to
continuously in order to give us quality and rocking songs like in VTV.
Gautham is a director who have ears for wonderful music. ARR needs people
like him to allow more innovations to be done in Tamil Music Industry. And
only ARR is capable to give us another revolutionary album.
