Hi, I too agree, Swadesh is ARR's best bgm effort till date. Even to some extent I love Yuva. But swadesh is my all time favourite. The use of indian instruments in Swadesh was exceptional. No. It definitely is not. Mouna Raagam was remade in Hindi as Kasak
(1992) starring Rishi Kapoor, Neelam and Chunkey Pandey. It had some
decent tunes by Rajesh Roshan!

Do any one you have any idea of any such thing from Rehman? 



Also, I think many of you must have watched the live concert
of AR Rehman in USA,
in the very beginning, infect in title there is little raga sung by Rehman, any
one knew about that.

Comparing Yesteryear greats with today's composers is not just. Yet, one
must agree that today's composers are not as great as yesteryear composers.
Because they could compose music with so many limitations and their music is

And i feel we must not misread Asha Bhonsle's remarks.For someone who has

opinion.Yet, i can cite so many interviews in which she praised Rahman as

Secondly, you find Rahman greater than R.D.Burman because you are living
in Rahman's era. Music should be judged by quality and the timelessness
associated with them. Tomorrow your kids might not enjoy Rahman..as someone
else will be ruling in their era. does that degrade rahman's achievements.Same
applies to R.D.Burman also.He was a true genius no doubt.and if you think that
his worth can be judged only by remembering 100 films of his work, then you
are mistaken. you must not forget that R.D.Burman, like Rahman, was a
trendsetter in his own times and even now, so many of his songs are still
remembered. Lets give him the credit and respect. judging who is greatest is
very abstract. you will show me few songs which only rahman can create..and i
can show you some songs which only R.D.Burman could create. how can you
evaluate then?
it is useless to draw such comparisions and lets give every good/great
composer a due place in the history of Indian Film Music.

All this has been said before here.. but I just have say it ;Just finished watching A Aah..(I haven't seen New..) but has there been a film worse than this with ARR's music ?This has got to be the most vulgar, disgusting film that ARR has associated with.
Watching Mayilirage on screen made me weepHow could ARR compose the background score for this tripe ? He must have had to watch each scene multiple times.. I think ARR has been already signed on for 
S.J.Surya's next (Isai ?)Surya better redeem himself with this one; or else... what can we do here ?I think we should start issuing press releases to express out collective sentiments..

 become so ignorant of talent that we deny it the just rewards 
blatantly.

support what Kulothungan says.

Take
for example E20U15, I think ARR went by the directors taste and approval. Even
Aha..Aaa, he okayed songs which were instantly liked by SJS, but I know ARR
wouldn't have been entirely please with a couple of songs in that film. He
should rather not release a song for shooting unless he was convinced by himself
that its upto his standards. Not all directors are AG, MR or ROM. We have SJS
who has great filmy brains and good pair of ears but not a musical taste as
refined as the directors I have mentioned.

ARR,
cannot score music like, "enge enge...Dolna", "kathakali" etc..Come on..these
songs did not connect with the public at any level..
where
as songs of NEW and aah..aa to an extend went up to B and C level, but still
some of ARR's signatures were missing. What I am saying is ARR should use his
style in these songs also.

then abt rahman's commitment in LOR album, my personal worry abt rahman is
'he is always the director's musician. consider'g the fact, all directors
can't b a 'maniratnam, 'shankar, 'subash ghai etc.. for these people, rahman's
policy is 200% right regd giving the songs in their tastes, but for others,
rahman can't impress his music on poor audiences. i always support raja for
giving his own kind of music for the film's purposes not for the

friends u have misunderstood me big time. i am not comparing MD's. 
im just expressing my opinion that yesteryears music composers and 
singers need not criticise todays generation. not only rahman. just 
to put rd burman on top y is she pulling d entire generation down? 
is that right? even people who loved saigal didn't like rd burman. 
so can v say that rd burmans generation is no where compared to 
saigals? i have d greatest respect for asha bhonsale. and that is 
for her singing. she is d best or mayb second to only lata 
mangeshkar. but pls do not criticise this generation. she criticised 
remixes and what did she do with cha cha cha? just becos she is asha 
shud v like that too? i know rahman respects asha a lot and even she 
respects rahman.i know rd burman was a trendsetter. but even he was 
criticised in his career. im not comparing him with rahman bcos he's 
my 2nd best music director. all said and done, rahman is the best.

RDBurban is great in many ways..very few compositions are really composed by him only, he had been inspired by most of the western bands, and also from his father's tune, his father also got annoyed sometimes, and news came in this regard in all major bengali news papers. A surprise news also came that SDBurman had lost his ganer diary-meaning diary of his songs.So we are habituated to listening these details of RDB from childhood.

great job, as usual. You have made BGMs a work of art in its 
presentation with giving appropriate titles which remind one of the 
scene it is associated with.

There was one more fan who had uploaded the BGMs before both of you and 
this BGM fever seems to be spreading. Good thing ! I have 3 versions of 
RDB Bgms ! Which version is better  Just joking..

[arr] Can ARR think of becoming a full time Music Composer ??

Dear Friends and Fellow Rahman fans.

After seeing the arguments and counterarguments over recent ARR movie 
releases and the kind of loose comments I read in this group and in 
outside media, I have been thinking how it would be if ARR becomes a 
full time music composer who produces his own albums, not necessarily 
for a movie, but on a particular theme or just any issue which he 
fancies.

Movie music is a tricky issue. At one stroke, ARR has to please the 
back benchers, the dress circle, the balcony, the critics, the music 
companies, the directors and producers, and us the die hard fans. 
So much pressure  Then there is never ending issue about top 10 
or top 5 and hit or flop... It pains to listen to some nerd critic 
that particular movie of ARR is not upto the mark. What mark ? who 
has set it ? what is the basis ? no body wants to frame the 
parameters, just loose comments...

I have been following ARR's career from the ROJA days and till now 
with great efforts and with help from this group and GOPALs 
information have collected almost ALL songs of ARR. To me all of his 
work is outstanding but Believe me, some of his compositions are out 
of this world, take the case of SET ME FREE ( particulaly the 
instrumental piece TAKE 9 )then the song Naan Paadum Santham - Duet
and his own Vande Maataram album ( Title song and Revival ), Eshwar 
Allah from 1947Earth, Nathiye Nathiye from Rhythm, the entire WATER 
album and recently Vaneessa Mae - Raaga Dance ! 

Fabulous compositions all these ! 

These and many more compositions remind me of JAZZ format where the 
composer and musical instrumentalist takes charge of the situation 
and play whatever pleases them more than anything else. No pressure 
of playing to the gallery. Just do what you like to do !!!

No need to convince ARR or anyone that ARR has talent to make it BIG 
on his own as an independent music composer with or without movie 
music. He is now at a stage in his life and career, where he need not 
overwork and thus conserve his art energy for some SPECIAL and 
meaningful creations.

May be he can still cater to the popular demand and make few movies 
per year and in addition to that, produce say 2-3 albums himself on 
just anything which his heart and inner voice says JUST DO IT !

As the NASA director JOHN says to Mohan Bhargav in SWADES, I would 
like to take the liberty in saying this to ARR, 

 DEAR ARR, Go and record your dreams !!

Vidya Balan made a quick trip to Madras , and , point to ponder , 
Kunal Kapoor was there too , Nah , nothing as exciting as rumours of 
affection , just that both were screen-tested for a Mani Ratnam 
project . While it is known that both were put through the grind by 
the director , it's still a closely-guarded secret whether they bagged 
the roles they were tested for .
 
Mani Ratnam should be out with the news soon ; till then , both Vidya 
and Kunal are going Mani Mani(literally) every second breath they

Aakash,
I agree with all that you have said. Especially about the great music
by RDBurman (or for that matter, Salil Chaudry, Jaidev, SJ, LP, KA,
etc..).
However, I disagree with your premise that Among the current crop,
Rahman is the only composer who is doing good job. Yes, Rahman is
miles ahead of others in terms of great music. But, there are others
who are also creating musical gems that will last for years to come.

For instance:

Jatin Lalit -- a pair whom Rahman has also admired in his
interviews...have given us the lovely Pehla nasha (JJWS), Ruk ja o dil
deewane (DDLJ), KKHH (title), Chalte chalte (title),..and lots more.
And of course, JL have to be credited for their own individual style
of light hearted music, and a unique trendsetting way for 'mehendi'
kind of songs.

Anu Malik -- though he is a large ego-head, and often gets inspired ..
there are many gems from him. Sandese aate hai (Border), Aisa lagta
hai (refugee), Mere mehboob (duplicate), Gali mein chand (zakhm), Chot
dil pe lagi, Roshni se (asoka), Chura ke dil mera (MATK), and lots
more. When he's not inspired, he is quite inspiring.

SEL -- a wonderful trio with amazing and diverse talents. Even Rahman
has loved the soulful Kal ho na ho. And their compositions for Dil
Chahta hai (incld the par-excellent BGM), Kuch Naa kaho (baat meri
suniye to zara), Mission Kashmir, and the funky Bunty aur Babli. All
of these are very well-crafted and sound engineered..and they have a
brilliant underlining of melody.

Of course there are many new ones who are promising -- Shantanu Moitra
(parineta), Vishal Shekar (Musu musu, Jhankaar beats, Taxi no 9211), etc. 
There are other ones who kind of remain less noticed (reminds me of
Jaidev)..for instance Vishal (with wonderful and my fav Satya,
Maachis, to recent Ramji Londonwale..), Ismail Durbar (with his
HDDCS), Anand Raj Anand (have you heard Mar Gayo re?), M.M.Kreem
(criminal, sur..), Raju (Satta), Shiv Hari (Lamhe, Chandni, Darr)

Of course some one timers like Anand Milind (the wonderful QSQT),
Nadeem Shravan (not one timers..but with limited gems like Pardes) ,
Uttam Singh (DTPH) have also given gems that will last forever.

In short, there is a crowd of wonderful musicians. Admitedly, they are
way behind Rahman..but still, they have to be acknowledged for giving
us musical gems that touch our heart.

which only
 R.D.Burman could create. how can you evaluate then?
 it is useless to draw such comparisions and lets give every good/great

I completely agree with vishwesh. 

there is no way Asha Bhonsle saying anything bad about
new generation MDs or trying to Advertise RD Burman
(what a ridiculous word to use) come on,  do u really
think someone like rd burman needs to be advertised to
get popularity??  

And another thing is, bashing Himesh reshammaiyya and
asha bhonsle or hailing about Nadeem sravan's melodies
are not what most of we fans would like to see in the
groups.  neither any comparison charts of AR Rahman
and haris jayraj or what ever.

instead of these senseless topics why not we talk
something about the music of AR Rahman, which is what
this group is really meant to be.  

Now i would like to list down some of the senseless
topics happened recently.

1. Haris jayraj vs. ar rahman

there were many topics of this kind. some saying haris
is better some saying yuvan is better, ..  and none
were talking about ar rahman's music.

2. Nadeem sravan..

welll that one was all the way from afghanisthan.. was
the funniest post i have ever read in this forum.  the
guy had no idea what he was talking about. and lot of
ppl including me tried to bark at him (WAste of time)

3. ar rahman copies 

this thing is still happening at a random basis.  and
every time someone posts something like we all start
to talk some sense to them.  but all those efforts,
eventually will be a waste of time.

4. bashing others

what did Himesh reshmaiya or asha bhonsle do to AR
Rahman for us to criticise them like this.  Himesh
reshmaiya might not be a good MD or he might have a
nasal accent, but he only expressed his love for the
music of ar rahman and instead of accepting the
honestly, we all started bashing him.  

and now, Asha bhonsle, this is ridiculous thing saying
such bad things about a great singer without any facts
in it.

5.  replying to all these above said posts

well thats what i am doing.  in fact these senseless
threads are to be ignored but couldnt help.  so few of
us starts to reply to the threads of these kind to
waste the time.

no offense to anyone.  i respect the right of
expressing ur openion. but, by posting these kind of
threads, it is degrading the quality of a wonderful
group.

too an old song and we did not even notice.

hey fellow rahmanics... y do u compare arr's work with others?? i just dont understand...if its a healthy comparision then thts okie. but u guys keep comparing each and everything the other mds create.. we should learn 2 appreciate other mds as well...each md hastheir own style(but not all haha)...and each excel in their's. eg i love vidhyasagar's melodies (only recently) ysr's youthful music( but not always).. shankar eshan loy..these trio createwonders many a times... regarding our boss well he gives his best when he dedicates himself toan album...and whn he does tht well u know the power of his music..but otherwise he lacks the magic he used to produce..(cool down guys we have 2 accept) so lets pray tht he dedicates himself more as he has promised... all the best big broguys am from chennai and would like to know

Hi,
I have been a part of this group for a while now (active and passive). 
As much as I love Rahman's music, and love to be part of the
discussions, I always find the forum structure VERY limiting and
frustrating.

The biggest issue is that its not thread based. Hence, I have no quick
way of seeing which threads have been recently created or responded
to. Additionally, a thread that I don't want to track cannot be
ignored..as it might have flooded the last 15 posts..and hence
polluting the view displayed. Its kind of hard to explain further, but
for those of you have used any blog based system, you will agree with
me that its far easier to have meaningful discussions in a thread
based setting.


Now, there is a new system called NEWSVINE. This system allows people
to post, read and seed articles. For instance, you can easily SEED a
Rahman article to newsvine. And you can even write up posts about
Rahman. The commenting system and voting system is JUST AMAZING..and I
am sure you will love it. And the way we can create a community is by
agreeing a predefined tag (E.g arrfans). One could then keep track of
the seeds and posts by going to newsvine.com/arrfans

The system is invite only for now, and will soon be public. If
anyone's interested, I can send out invites (I have about 20). 

Note, this is just a suggestion to improve the group discussions, and
enable a more functional way of tracking posts. This will improve the
involvement to the group as well.

Yes you are right Mohamed. Not only in THALA ARR concern, but also other MD's especially Yuvan and Harris. "Copy" is not a small word, which take life's of there hard work. Typically MD Yuvan shanker raja is not an effortless person he is next to ARR in Tamilnadu and started marking in neighbor Andra also. He has his own style (even ARR committed this same statement) with lotz of soothe music. Please stop depressing any MD's.

No one liketelling wrong abouttheir work!!!

b very serious abt him n his works. If music is an art, making sum1 laugh is
also an art. I 2 was anxious abt the mail until I reached the link..after
seeing it, I laughed till I cried. My cousin (whos a member here)
guessed it correctly. Its sumtimes uneasy 2 get fooled. But being fooled at
april is sumthing nice n entertaining. Nice try vijay. Even barath k.v have
posted fake posters. That 2 have made us angry. But it shows his designing

There is a story that before AR Rahman composed a hit song, he would
visit his late guru Karimulla Kadri Khan in Ponneri and wait on him.
His guru would go into meditation and then give him a word. If Rahman
used the word in his song, it would become a big hit. That is how
Rahman got words like Mustafaa Mustafaa, Muquabula Muquabula and
Chaiya Chaiya. Well, the words still ring in his fans' minds and now
it has started ringing in Hollywood.
Filmmaker Spike Lee's Inside Man, a Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster
and Clive Owen starrer, features Rahman's Chaiya, Chaiya song both in
the opening and closing scenes.
The song, of course, has drawn critical notice. Digvijay Singh, a Los
Angeles based Indian filmmaker feels it doesn't gel with the movie.
