How can my HTML program call Remedy Web Services

2009-07-28 Thread Jay Sytangco
Hi! I'm a newbie when it comes to Remedy Web Services. I'm just
currently learning the whole logic of Web Services.

With this, I would just like to seek your help with my current task.

I have a very simple HTML program wherein a user will just supply the
necessary values on the indicated fields and then, just click on
Submit button. My question is: How can I call the Remedy Web Service
that I've created via the Submit button of my HTML program?

Thank you very much.

Seems like you got all necesary information her. And you got an

Can it be that you does not have the proper permission to see the

It seems that out of the box Web Services is basically crippled for a

response to tell you what is wrong with a request.

Yes, thats the issue! The non-technical documentation is non-exixting!
Thats why you need to talk to an administrator.

The server is probably trying to create a file called 390600.lck in the
arserver/db directory. Check that the user trying to start the server has
permissions to delete/create this file. If the file exists you can delete it.

Re: RESOLVED: Authentication Issue

2009-07-28 Thread Frank Caruso
Not sure why it was turned on. It was that way way when I started. The
system needs to do domain authentication if there is no password. By
turning off chaining we are forcing users to have a Remedy User
account.

Now that I have turned off chaining it is working as needed.

Google any/all of the following:

  javascript calling web service

  CGI calling web service

2009-07-28 Thread grenadaguy
Not sure what you mean by GetEntry, I used HPD_IncidentInterface_WS +
HelpDesk_Query_Service to query the incident and getting:

Tue Jul 28 10:03:48 BOT 2009:DEBUG: MessageNum: 302[\n]
Tue Jul 28 10:03:48 BOT 2009:DEBUG: MessageText: Entry does not exist in

However I can query an incident created by the GUI and this provided a dump
of the incident. It also on the face of it seemed somewhat helpful in that
the values of certain fields were filled out that were blank in my incident
creation attempt. However while some of the fields are the same as the
incident creation request, there are also a number of different ones, and
including them causes an error.

Here's the response to the query in case it helps:

I installed aruser and aradmin to try this out but wasn't able to
successfully authenticate with aradmin (presumably because I have no
administrative access) and aruser looked just like the GUI you see with the
browser. The problem is in mapping the required fields in the GUI to those
required by Web Services, I don't have a problem with creating incidents via
the GUI. Sorry if I missed your point.

Here is my thoughts on this.

Since you know what form the Web Service is submitting to and the data you
are passing in the create operation you can open the form in the User tool
(use the same login and password used in the Web Service header). Turn on
the Filter logging in the User Tool ( Tools - Options - Logging). Put
in the same data you passed with the Web Service and you would then have
 logs to trace.

BTW: You can get to the server log files from the user tool in a couple
of ways if you know the location of the files. The easiest is with the
Remedy Administrator you can create a form with an attachment pool (to
hold the file) and using the PROCESS command of
PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT in a filter have the server store the log
 file into an attachment.

Jarl, I started looking at backchannel before I was made aware of Web
Services and haven't spent any time on it since. So far I have not been
 able
to get Web Services to work with the constraints I am under so really
researching it has been no more productive than trying to use backchannel.

It seems that out of the box Web Services is basically crippled for a
non-privileged user because it doesn't provide any diagnostics in the
response to tell you what is wrong with a request.

If I were trying to use Web Services with, say, Amazon, would I have to be
calling Amazon technical support for them to turn on diagnostics and look
through logs? Wouldn't I have a clearly documented interface with a way of
determining the allowed values for each field, including whether a
particular field could be left empty? I don't think I have that with the
Remedy installation I have here, and I would be surprised if it was
 changed
 from out of the box.

Once again I am appealing for suggestions on the way forward.

With those two document you should get a good overview of the
different methods of creating integration into AR System. So, then I
find it strange that you spending a lot of time trying to integrate
trough an undocumenteted interface(using the backchannel method)

I would go for the wget and an xml integration(soap). Since you got an
resonse from the SoapUI then your on the correct path. But like others
pointed out, you need acess toi turn on logs and other mechanism to
pin point where the error is. (I suspect the error to be that you do
not send all necesary information to create an incident)

 any

Is there any other document which would be relevant to what I'm trying to

And would further examination of the documentation help me without your

If you trying to create and integration into AR System be sure to have

Reading the documentation is also a good start.

It almost certainly would help if I had any administrative access to the
server, or indeed any access other than with a basic brower and user
privileges only to open and resolve incidents, however sadly this is not
 the

It seems like the diagnostics provided by Web Services out of the box
 are
just as cryptic as those with BackChannel? At least with BackChannel I
 was
able to get an incident number separately from the request that actually
failed. Also that's a clue that getting an INC# isn't any indication of
 successful incident creation.

Any suggestions where to go from here appreciated, I'm just about ready
 to
give up. The chances of altering the configuration of the server to
 improve
the diagnostics are next to nil (politics and beaurocracy).

 Mark,

You can turn on WebService's logs on the Mid-Tier level to see some
more details about the Web Services interactions. However, if you are

Tristan, Meena,

The error is not complaining about the armonitor.log file but the armonitor.lck

the armonitor.log file, I bet you have much lower permissions on the

FYI More New Bugs Found; in Creating new relationship types - not for the faint of heart!

2009-07-28 Thread Ben Chernys
Warning. Creating new relationship types is NOT for the faint of heart.
Seems to be a work-in-progress considering the fact that enums are involved
and the same field id is sometimes declared as a char and sometimes as an
enum. There are even fake buttons on the relationship type forms to adjust
field dictionaries which bring up an empty dialog box. Also there is a
lot of workflow that depends on the relationship type.

What ever happened to the 5.12 enhancement of an enum of type
AR_ENUM_STYLE_QUERY ???

Here's the bug and the fix...

ITSM 7.0.3 patch 5

Form SYS:Association Type Assoc
Filter SYS:ATA:CreateOppAssoc_100_Setup

Action 2

Fix is to add the 'Locale' = $Locale$ to the set fields query qualification

Comment is wrong (no hard coding). Note that BMC (and Remedy prior) hardly
ever comments workflow.

Also note that on this error, only the API log gets passed back to the
application and NOT the filter logs However, the server maintains the
filter logs.

Trying to use BackChannel (AR Mid-Tier v7.0)

2009-07-28 Thread John Baker
Mark,

I can't bear to see you suffer any further. This is how you get data out of
the AR System in an efficient and timely manner:

http://www.javasystemsolutions.com/movies/BMCITSMIncidentIntegration/

You can retrieve it via a WS call (and not to the AR System, because that's
painful), or get it sent to a JMS destination, or do it via some AJAX, or an
HTTP request, etc.

And the next version of the gateway will allow multiple queries to occur
against the AR System in one transaction, so you can pull back ITSM Incidents
and all related information (from other forms), with one request to the
gateway. Hence, the integration is a pleasant experience.

Perl Question

2009-07-28 Thread Joseph Kasell
Hello listers!

I'm simultaneously diving into perl and arsperl for the first time and I'm
seeing a lot of possibilities at what one can do. I'm also running into a

if (!$c) {print(Could not connect to ARS ($ars_errstr)\n);exit(1);}

($r = ars_SetEntry($c, Joetest, 002, 0, 536870914,
Bob)) ||
die $ars_errstr;

This works fine from the server console and from a run process within an
active link. My question has to do with the set entry command. How can I
pass a variable from a Remedy field to field ID 536870914 on form Joetest
in this script instead of the hard-coded value of Bob? Again, I'm sure

Error Starting Server After 7.5 patch 2 upgrade

2009-07-28 Thread jham36
Listers,

I upgraded our test environment from ARS 7.5 patch 1 to 7.5 patch 2
last week. The installer failed when trying to restart the arserver
towards the end of the install. The only error I can see in the
armonitor log file is:

Failure occurred during execl() (ARERR 33)

The install log does not show any errors until it fails to restart the
server.
I have verified that the armonitor.cfg file looks correct and even
restored a backup copy just to make sure.
Support has been unable to make any progress on this issue.

Thanks,

Re: Perl Question

Joseph,

You will find some help for ARSPerl on ARSList.
However you may find more help on the ARSPerl mailing list(s) too.
  https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/arsperl-users

Hope that helps some in the future. :)

Just to be clear, if the question is ARS related then ARSList is a
good place to ask it.(Even if your actual problem is a Perl/Java
issue. If it is directly ARS related.. then bring in on. :) ) However
there are also more specialized places to ask detailed niche ARS
questions too. (ARSPerl's list is only one of the other more specific
ARS sites that I can think of.)

The Perl script is as follows:

This works fine from the server console and from a run process within an

pass a variable from a Remedy field to field ID 536870914 on form Joetest

That did not seem to work. The Windows Application log started
showing errors about the SQL database not being available. I do not
see these errors when I remove that \

What happens without the \ is that the server cache builds up to

Faulting application arserver.exe, version 7.5.0.2, faulting module
arserver.exe, version 7.5.0.2, fault address 0x0015cdf0.

Anyone have any other ideas? This is just a test server, so I can

Oracle version 9 clients are compatible with Oracle 10 server, so you do not
really need to reinstall the old clients.

You may be running short on ARTMPSPC space?? Running the ARS upgrade will not
get you anywhere if this is the case. Check your data file size and its used
and free portions and if it looks like these files could use a little more
disk, allocate them a little more..

Re: Trying to use BackChannel (AR Mid-Tier v7.0)

2009-07-28 Thread Wilson, Harry
Mark,

You said:
I have set up a request in soapUI and am getting a response back
with an incident number (below), but no ticket is created and there
is no error to say what the problem might be (not much better than
 BackChannel??)

You are submitting the request to form HPD_IncidentInterface_Create_WS. The
submission is accepted by this form (your incident number), which is in turn
submitted to HPD:Helpdesk on open. This is where the disconnect is occurring.

I have a few systems that submit tickets via email on Remedy 6 that I had to
transfer to Remedy 7, which we did using the HPD:IncidentInterface_Create form.
One of the things I needed to setup was an entry on the Operational Catalog
Setup form for each Organizational Tier. Without this, I was able to create
an entry on the interface form but failed in turn to open an HPD:Helpdesk
(Incident) ticket.

Sounds similar to the problem you are having, and could have the same cause.

Harry

couple of ways if you know the location of the files. The easiest is
with the Remedy Administrator you can create a form with an attachment
pool (to hold the file) and using the PROCESS command of
PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT in a filter have the server store the
 log file into an attachment.

Jarl, I started looking at backchannel before I was made aware of Web
Services and haven't spent any time on it since. So far I have not
been able to get Web Services to work with the constraints I am under
so really researching it has been no more productive than trying to
 use backchannel.

It seems that out of the box Web Services is basically crippled for a
non-privileged user because it doesn't provide any diagnostics in the
response to tell you what is wrong with a request.

If I were trying to use Web Services with, say, Amazon, would I have
to be calling Amazon technical support for them to turn on diagnostics
and look through logs? Wouldn't I have a clearly documented interface
with a way of determining the allowed values for each field, including
whether a particular field could be left empty? I don't think I have
that with the Remedy installation I have here, and I would be
surprised if it was changed from out of the box.

That did not seem to work. The Windows Application log started showing

What happens without the \ is that the server cache builds up to about 477

2009-07-28 Thread grenadaguy
Harry, are you saying that the installation I am trying to use is broken in
some way for Web Services as a result of being an upgrade from a previous AR
version (actually I think it was upgraded from v5)?

If that is the case, then I guess I am stuck until I get somebody with
administrative access to the server to fix the problem, possibly in the way
you describe? What diagnostics could I get them to look at to determine if
this is actually the case? Is there any other functionality than Web
Services which might be affected adversely by this issue?

Mark,

This is where the disconnect is
occurring.

I have a few systems that submit tickets via email on Remedy 6 that I had to
transfer to Remedy 7, which we did using the HPD:IncidentInterface_Create
form. One of the things I needed to setup was an entry on the Operational
Catalog Setup form for each Organizational Tier. Without this, I was able
to create an entry on the interface form but failed in turn to open an
HPD:Helpdesk (Incident) ticket.

Sounds similar to the problem you are having, and could have the same cause.

Harry

Re: WARNING - AtriumCore 7.5 installer has destructive defect in AIE upgrade

2009-07-28 Thread strauss
Support sent me a LONG list of things to try from a couple of KB articles. The
one that worked for me, on two different machines (IE 8 on Vista and IE 7 on
XP) was this:

3. In the Internet Explorer click Tools Internet Options and Delete Cookies,
Delete Files (with Delete all offline content checked) and under Settings check
the Every visit to the page toggle. Under Advanced tab check the Do not save
encrypted pages to disk to prevent caching the encrypted files. This one is a
know defect (SW00333249) and is resolved in Patch 2.

Since I was ONLY installing patch 002 components, I would say that this defect
is NOT fixed. As I remember, our hint that it was IE-related was the fact that
it worked properly in Safari 4.0.2 on my Mac accessing the mid-tier.

I can send you the list I got from support if you want it... some of it was
pretty strange.

Hi Chris,

We jumped into the 7.5 (ARS, CMDB and ITSM) bandwagon right away as soon as it
became available in our DEV servers, because we wanted to go-live with those
7.5 version 6 months later, with the latest patched versions at the time of the
go-live, instead of going live with ARS 7.1 and CMDB 2.1 and ITSM 7.0.3 p9, and
upgrade at the end of the year. We are now live with 7.5. We don't use AIE, so
did not run into that problem.

I found many bugs which seem resolved by now, which is great. The one
significant bug that BMC has not yet resolved, is the one that you refer to,
AtriumConsole loads a blank page with the error popup Authentication Error
Send Failed OK so it isn't much use).

We have provided extensive Mid-Tier and Tomcat logs to BMC support for months
now, and they are still working (struggling) on that bug. We have the mid-tier
(7.5 patch 1) running on Tomcat only (no apache) in Solaris 10 BTW.

It is discouraging that the latest patches don't fix this bug, I was planning
to upgrade my CMDB and Mid-Tier from 7.5 patch 1 to 7.5 patch 2 to see if that
fixes the problem, but I guess it does not since you have that problem too

I guess eventually more customers are going to have this error message and BMC
will have to spend more resources to really get to the bottom of that error.
The main problem with this error message is that it is very generic. So
therefore you have to dive into the Tomcat logs which is not exactly fun
(at least not for me). Somebody at BMC support is banging his head with this
big and complex tomcat logs, and probably wishing the darned thing just
worked...

After another week of rebuilding a complete 7.1.00.002 environment to test an
upgrade to 7.5.00.002, we had some measure of success upgrading the AR Server
(no issues), the mid-tier and flashboards server (no issues), and the base

although the AtriumConsole loads a blank page with the error popup

Then I made the fatal mistake of trying to upgrade the AIE engine instance for
the upgraded server to 7.5.

Our AIE 7.1 engines for production, development, and failover/upgrade test are
all on a separate server. They are all installed in C:\Program Files\BMC
Software\BMC Atrium Integration Engine\ in folders for each server (
\SERVERNAME-PORT\ ). Any time we patch one of the engines, the 7.1 installer
only modifies the appropriate \SERVERNAME-PORT folder; before AIE, EIE
installed and upgraded individual instances by folder in the same manner. In
preparation for the upgrade attempt, I had already run the 7.1.00.006 patch
against the AIE instance in question since it was at patch 002, and the latest
docs for AtriumCore 7.5 point out a problem if AIE is below 7.1.00.004. Friday

Mark,

Not exactly broken, your code to open the ticket from the
HPD_IncidentInterface_Create_WS form could be perfect. But if your
HPD_IncidentInterface_Create_WS form was a copy of the
HPD_IncidentInterface_Create with some tweaking for the Web Service,
then it is going to look for an entry in the Operational Catalog Setup
form.

Yes, I believe that you are stuck until you get help from someone with
administrative access. It may be all you need is have them create an
entry in the Operational Catalog Setup form and your done. And I think
there is a good chance of that because you have confirmation that an
interface record was created.

If further diagnoses is needed, the Remedy admin will have to do some
filter and active link logging to see at which point the creation of the
HPD:Helpedsk record fails.

Personally, I find it amazing and admirable that you have gone to this
extent to come up with your solution. I'm happy when someone has done a
tenth of the work you have toward defining what they want and working on
a solution. Hopefully your admin/developer/support person feels the
same way and helps you finish this off quickly.

Filter Guide Loop within a Loop

2009-07-28 Thread tina flores
Hello Listers,

I'm working on a client requirement:
People relationship on a child CI needs to be updated when a custom checkbox
is filled out. I searched through previous posts and my filter and filter
guide is based on a previous post on this forum:

Filter OutsideLoopCG has a call guide action to call filter guide
OutsideGuide.
Filter guide OutsideGuide includes filters OutsideLoopFilter1 and
InsideLoopCG.
Filter InsideLoopCG calls filter guide InsideGuide.

From the logs, I can see that each row on the Relationships table loops
through each entry in the People table. However, only the last entry in the
People table gets pushed through.

I even postfix two special characters ( `! ) on the filters within the
filter guide. But somehow only the last entry on the People table is pushed.
Did I missed something? Your input is highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Subject: Filter Guide Loop within a Loop

Thanks!
Tina

When you turn on the Filter logging, you should see it performing the pushes
out of phase, and you should be able to see what it's pushing, when you look
at those logs do you see it pushing the different values, or do you see it
pushing the same value multiple times?

Re: mid tier

2009-07-28 Thread Joe DeSouza
If you are on UNIX you can write a cron job to delete the contents of the cache
subfolder in the Mid-Tier installation directory.

If you are on Windows, a batch job to delete the same run as a scheduled task
can do the same thing..

On deletion of this, any attempt to login into the AR Server from a WEB client
will generate the new cache..

Could it be the business time that you are not considering - in which case it
