Display No Match Error

2013-10-08 Thread Kemes, Lisa A DLA CTR INFORMATION OPERATIONS
I checked the BMC Communities (under BMC Remedy AR System) to see if
anything matched my idea and I couldn't find anything. I'd like to make
another drop down for set and field actions to compliment the Display
No Match Error. I'd like to have the ability to create my own error.
I know I can do this on my own, but I'd have to create a temp field,
populate it, check it, if empty, create my own error.

Why can't I do this straight from the Set or Push fields action of an
Active Link? It's already doing the work for me, but instead I have to
create 3 or more active links (or actions) to create my own error in my
own words (instead of the cryptic out of the box error - No item
matches active link conditions; this operation has been defined so that
no match generates an error. (ARERR 9278).

So I would like an additional option to be Display Custom Error. Or
something like that. It would automatically be the type: Error, and I
can just put some text under the If No requests Match: area if
Display Custom Error is selected.

Is this asking too much? Should I add it to the Ideas?

That's not unreasonable at all (in my opinion)one option that you may
not have thought about...

Set it to Display Error, and enable an error handlerhave the error
handler give a message of type Error using your own words...

this isn't 'ideal' because both errors will show...yours and the
original...but it does give you the opportunity to display your own
message, with only an additional piece of workflow, instead of two or three

Joe,

Thanks. This choice was made without contacting me (or anyone that knows of
Remedy/ITSM). My guess it that the product solves some other needs and someone
from their sales department said sure we can interface with Remedy.

Our goal was for next year to look at the top vendors and then do a poc.

This will be interesting,

Howard,

I have not worked with Fonemine’s MobileForce specifically but I worked with
what could be a competing product for field force mobility, called ETAdirect
from TOA Tech. TOA Tech’s ETAdirect like Fonemine’s MobileForce is also a cloud
based solution, so not on premise, and needs the use of Web Services to
communicate date back and forth. We had to include the use of an orchestration
product, where the customer I worked for used Microsoft’s BizTalk to
orchestrate date between ETAdirect and various other apps onsite which included
Remedy.

There is a chance that you might have to use a similar mechanism (use of an
orchestration product) to interact with Fonemine’s MobileForce given that
Remedy’s ability to consume certain types of constructs in some web services
could be limiting. The orchestration product could talk to Fonemine’s
MobileForce, and convey that information to Remedy and vice versa. As a result,
some operations may not be real time, but could be made to look like almost
real time by keeping the polling window really thin, where BizTalk processes a
queue when an instant asynchronous communication is not possible.

Have you’ll already established that Fonemine’s MobileForce, is the way to go
to provide a solution to field force mobility? Or is it something that is being
considered alongside with other solutions? Their engineers should be able to
tell you if they were used in a similar environment. If you’ll are still open
on what vendor product you’ll wish to use for field force mobility and would
like to talk to representatives from ETAdirect, I will be more than happy to
introduce you to them.

Hope this information helps..

All,

I was just brought into a project where we are looking to use Fonemine’s
MobileForce with ITSM 7.6.4 and create a service request app.

Since there is not a lot of info on the Fonemine’s MobileForce website.

So I need to ask has anyone had any dealings with Fonemine’s MobileForce and
ITSM 7.6.4 or even Remedy?

Re: BUG14 ? BSUG14?

2013-10-08 Thread arslist
There will have to be a code yes. I have spent 5.5 years dealing with the
hotels and contracts and the answer to your suggestion is: not necessary
other than ensuring that the room block can only be booked by conference
attendees. Could be important if you don't want another company staying
there and slipping paper under everyone's door (like in 2001).

BMC will do what BMC does, and we need to be pragmatic. Some changes will be
because it makes sense for a big corporation, some will be because the
conference covers the entire product line, and some changes I am sure will
be for the better. In the end, we just want to ensure that the core sessions
that the BMC Remedy world needs are there. Resistance is futile.

So, let's set aside comparisons until after the event. Let's help BMC go in
the right direction for a great BMC User Event 2014, to be named something
more interesting sometime soonish we are told.

I don't think they can get you the codes directly - they must be using some
sort of a tracking cookie to ensure that those rooms are booked by
conference participants so the hotel could track that they were used in the
right context.

They probably then use that information to track their financial information
related to the conference - in much the same way as when you buy an air
ticket from lets say from lets say United even though you found that fare on
Kayak. You do not see that same fare available on United if you searched
United directly.

That's only my guess.

BMC has a block of rooms at the Dolphin from 10/11 to 10/19 (this is from
the reservation agent).

The catch is that you HAVE to reserve your room via BMC.

I hate conferences that do this! Just give us the rates and let us book our
rooms!

Folks, just a minute here between sessions to fill you in on on another big
announcement that was almost lost in a flurry of Twinkie tossing at WWRUG13.
We have heard that BMC will sponsor a larger scale user event at the Swan
and Dolphin Resort starting October 13, 2014. The details are still to be
announced but our hope is that many of the facets of the WWRUG conferences
will be included.

In addition to this, WWRUG will present a Closer To You conference event in
late March or early April, 2014 in Bangalore, India! What better way to
note that we are the World Wide Remedy Users Group than venture out to other
parts of the world? The details on this are also in the very early planning
stages but BMC and Unisys have agreed to be sponsors. We're still meeting in
San Jose this week so things may change, but this much has been announced so
far.

Exciting stuff, so happy to be in San Jose! Wish you were here!

LJ, good idea, but I don't think that will work for an Active Link. The
set field action is kicking off when the customer returns what they
typed in the field (and adding other info to other fields if it finds a

Enable db logging on client side and see the SQL when you get the error
message. You would be able to see how exactly ar system is fetching the
message from db. Once found, replace the message.

8.1 DMT issue failure to import data...

2013-10-08 Thread Rick Phillips

Hi,

I'm trying to import new products using the 8.1 DMT.

The job hangs fairly early, and the arerror.log shows:
Mon Oct 07 23:52:44 2013 390634 : Error in plugin : Either job

4554)
Mon Oct 07 23:52:44 2013 Application-Delete-Entry DMT:Action
0006905

If I try to delete the record in DMT:Action manually, I receive this error:
Error in plugin : Either job Product_Catalog(Object Id null, Directory
Id 000) does not exist Or User Rick Phillips is not allowed
to access job Product_Catalog (ARERR 8753)

I've done some research, and found a lot of material to review regarding
plug-in errors (including one I posted earlier this year, but that
resolution doesn't work this time around). This has worked before, as
I've imported all of the foundation data using DMT (although it was
month's ago).

Any ideas? This issue is holding up UAT.

Thanks,

Rick

Issue with certificates

Hi All,

I am trying to set up a web service using SSL and have not been able to get it

services (version 7.6 and 8.x) I have loaded the certificate on my laptop

load works in a browser.

https://myserver.min.navisite-int-net:8443/services/1.0/internalservice?wsdl

When I try to load the URL in the field I get the following error

java.security.cert.CertificateException: No name matching

Best I can tell I have done everything right. Any suggestions or advice would
be greatly appreciated.

The only problem with an error handler is it considers the error handled
and allows processing to continue. I guess in the case of a Set Fields
lookup AL there may not be additional processing but it is something to
consider.

Actually I have never tried an error handler in this context. I don't
think you can. It isn't a transaction error it is a fiddling with the
screen error. How would you associate the AL with the error handler
Filter?

I didn't see that it was an AL :)but in the case of it being a
filterin the error handler, you still make it an error, which actually
doesn't handle the error, it just throws one, which is why you get double
the messages, but you get to give your own custom one instead of the system
one.

I think you have a great idea Lisa. Simple yet effective. I will vote for
it.

@Karthik I see value in being able to specify an error that is takes into
account the context of the action. Yes the error could be made more
friendly on a global scale using the message catalog however it would be
even better to say no matching profiles were found, the CI could not be
located in the CMDB, Please choose a valid Cost Center from the menu.
Many of us are doing this today as Lisa indicated but we need temp fields
and additional workflow.

Re: 8.1 DMT issue failure to import data...

2013-10-08 Thread Carl Wilson
Hi Rick,
This is natural, you cannot query this form from either the User Tool or
Browser - so you can ignore this error.

I have had issue in the past with corrupt Jobs/Transformations in the
repository that threw the below types of errors (repository was corrupt).
Basically there was a mismatch between where the catalog points to for the
Job/Transformation and when it attempts to load the Job it cannot find it in
the catalog.

Check your Jobs/Transformations are available in the Spoon client for the
data you are loading and also check the AI Jobs form (UDM:Repoisitory:Job)
for the correct ID of the Job/Transform and that it lines up with what is
being called in the DMT Tool i.e. when you run the DMT Job (DMT:Job), it
calls the AI Job (Job/Transform) via an ID in the repository.

The import/export of the Spoon tool loads the Job/Transform into the
repository as an attachment - these can sometimes not be present or corrupt
and the ID's between the DMT Job (yes confusing as BMC are sharing
terminology) and actual repository AI Job do not match.

Kind Regards,

Re: Display No Match Error

2013-10-08 Thread Mueller, Doug
Lisa and others,

There have been a number of responses to this message - from support to
alternate options.

The suggestion you have was considered, but it has serious limitations.

What if you wanted the system message AND your message?
What if you wanted a warning instead of an error?
What if you wanted no error but to put a default value in the field?
What if you wanted to send a notification but still error?
What if you wanted to send a notification, set a default, and NOT error?
What if you wanted to ..

Just saying you want to have a message is very limiting and just handles one
permutation of what people
want to do.

And, there are issues like

What about localization? Suddenly there is a new place errors can come from
and localization needs to be
addressed.

There is already a mechanism to handle all these different options - workflow.

And, in FILTERS, there is a clean mechanism to have the logic triggered - the
error handler functionality.

This functionality allows you to specify a filter to be called if the current
filter encounters an error. Then, you
can do ANYTHING you want in that filter - including calling guides and multiple
actions.

In addition, it has a number of important characteristics:

If you match the run if condition of the error handler, the error that was
encountered is suppressed. The
error condition disappears and the error itself disappears. You then execute
the actions on the if branch and
then continue with the filter following the original filter as if no error
occurred. So, you do not get double
errors under this condition as the system error is suppressed (if you are
seeing the system error in addition
still, that is a bug).

if you do not, the error encountered is retained, but the else branch (if any)
still runs and the actions there
can do whatever you want. When they complete, the workflow terminates with the
error.

Your actions in either branch can be anything - including issuing another error.

In addition, there are keywords that let you test the error number if you want
to take action only on
specific error numbers (like in this case, a no match error you want to handle
but something else like a
syntax or DB error you don't).

Now, this sounds perfect. EXCEPT, error handlers are available for filters at
this time but not for active links.

Now, if your proposal is to add error handlers to active links. That is a
terrific idea and it provides all the
flexibility you are looking for.

But, to just handle one special condition by adding a special way to handle one
path is not that exciting. It is
limiting to your flexibility at minimal savings of definition. And, to do it,
you would need a multi-match error
error message and then push fields would need the special handling for each and
then It just spirals and
has no end, and you have handled one limited set of conditions. The error
handler handles everything in one
clean, generic way with as much flexibility for processing as you could ever
need.

For those of you looking for handling within filters, check out the
documentation around this feature, I think
you will find it can do what you need.

For those needing it on the client side, this feature is not present within
active links at this time. I personally
wish it was, but it is not.

Re: Fonemine's MobileForce and ITSM 7.6.4?

2013-10-08 Thread Joe D'Souza
Howard,

I have not worked directly with Fonemine's MobileForce, but I am pretty sure
you would require an orchestration engine between the two - one of the main
reasons being Remedy's incapability of handling arrays, which most
orchestration engines have no problem with.

With a mobility solution especially in a communications environment, you are
talking about both sending and receiving arrays, when creating appointment
requests or requesting available appointment slots etc.

So even though you'll have already settled on what that end solution is
going to be, you'll may strongly need to consider the need for an
orchestration engine such as the Atrium Orchestrator or Microsoft BizTalk to
stand between the two solutions. At least evaluate the need for one if not
commit a purchase, by testing your POC with and without one. I shouldn't be
surprised if you face lots of difficulties without one.

Cheers

I have not worked with Fonemine's MobileForce specifically but I worked with
what could be a competing product for field force mobility, called ETAdirect
from TOA Tech. TOA Tech's ETAdirect like Fonemine's MobileForce is also a
cloud based solution, so not on premise, and needs the use of Web Services
to communicate date back and forth. We had to include the use of an
orchestration product, where the customer I worked for used Microsoft's
BizTalk to orchestrate date between ETAdirect and various other apps onsite
which included Remedy.

There is a chance that you might have to use a similar mechanism (use of an
orchestration product) to interact with Fonemine's MobileForce given that
Remedy's ability to consume certain types of constructs in some web services
could be limiting. The orchestration product could talk to Fonemine's
MobileForce, and convey that information to Remedy and vice versa. As a
result, some operations may not be real time, but could be made to look like
almost real time by keeping the polling window really thin, where BizTalk
processes a queue when an instant asynchronous communication is not
possible.

Have you'll already established that Fonemine's MobileForce, is the way to
go to provide a solution to field force mobility? Or is it something that is
being considered alongside with other solutions? Their engineers should be
able to tell you if they were used in a similar environment. If you'll are
still open on what vendor product you'll wish to use for field force
mobility and would like to talk to representatives from ETAdirect, I will be
more than happy to introduce you to them.

Hope this information helps..

Re: Display No Match Error

2013-10-08 Thread Mueller, Doug
Fred,

That is a definite option. I just wanted someone else to do the muddying

And, this is not even an inefficient option. Why? Because the set fields
operation is doing a lookup so will
do a round trip from the client to the server. Well, that is exactly what the
service action will do. One round
trip. It just has a stop off to run a filter on the way to the DB. So, the
overall cost is almost the same as for
an active link. Yes, you do end up with a filter and a filter error handler in
addition to your active link vs just
one extra error handler active link if error handlers were allowed there. But,
the overall performance is
the same. And, if you had the same lookup in several places, you could use the
same service to save on
definitions with full and consistent error handling for each place.

Lisa and others,

The suggestion you have was considered, but it has serious limitations.

Tauf, sorry, I should have explained in more detail.

In the past, we've used the format below to send auto generated emails (from
SQL, Lotus Notes, etc.) to Remedy and create incidents. Is the ID needed? Maybe
not... that's just how we've used it in the past.
What I am looking into is the same functionality but for Changes. SCCM will
send an email to Remedy and create a change request. what I don't know is how
will the workflow handle associating CIs.. 300-400 CIs to one change. Could we
use other methods? Possibly, but wanted to test this one for now.

flexibility you are looking for.

But, to just handle one special condition by adding a special way to
handle one path is not that exciting. It is

limiting to your flexibility at minimal savings of definition. And, to
do it, you would need a multi-match error

error message and then push fields would need the special handling for
each and then It just spirals and

has no end, and you have handled one limited set of conditions. The
error handler handles everything in one

For those of you looking for handling within filters, check out the

you will find it can do what you need.

For those needing it on the client side, this feature is not present

I guess if it was considered (and ultimately not implemented), then I'm
not going to post it as an idea. I understand your point.

The workflow isn't hard, it's just another temp field and Active Link,
but I just thought it would be SO slick to be able to customize the No
Match error.

Maybe I'll put an idea out there to include Error Handling on Active
Links. That would probably help me as well!

Thanks!

Just saying you want to have a message is very limiting and just handles
one permutation of what people

want to do.

And, there are issues like

What about localization? Suddenly there is a new place errors can come
from and localization needs to be

addressed.

There is already a mechanism to handle all these different options -
workflow.

And, in FILTERS, there is a clean mechanism to have the logic triggered
- the error handler functionality.

This functionality allows you to specify a filter to be called if the
current filter encounters an error. Then, you

can do ANYTHING you want in that filter - including calling guides and
multiple actions.

In addition, it has a number of important characteristics:

If you match the run if condition of the error handler, the error that
was encountered is suppressed. The

error condition disappears and the error itself disappears. You then
execute the actions on the if branch and

then continue with the filter following the original filter as if no
error occurred. So, you do not get double

errors under this condition as the system error is suppressed (if you
are seeing the system error in addition

still, that is a bug).

if you do not, the error encountered is retained, but the else branch
(if any) still runs and the actions there

can do whatever you want. When they complete, the workflow terminates
with the error.

Your actions in either branch can be anything - including issuing
another error.

In addition, there are keywords that let you test the error number if
you want to take action only on

specific error numbers (like in this case, a no match error you want to
handle but something else like a

syntax or DB error you don't).

Now, this sounds perfect. EXCEPT, error handlers are available for
filters at this time but not for active links.

Now, if your proposal is to add error handlers to active links.
That is a terrific idea and it provides all the

flexibility you are looking for.

Subject: Support Company based muti-tenancy

I wanted to see if anyone out there can give me some suggestions on how to
accomplish the following in the ITSM 8.1 environment WITHOUT any coding changes…

I am working for a university that has several departments that would like to
use the ITSM in a multi tenancy fashion; so each department would like to have
their own set of rules, support groups, etc. and NOT allow the other
departments to see their tickets and them not see the other department’s
tickets.

So far, it sounds like a straight multi-tenancy setup, however the issue here
is that ALL the departments would like use the same user base but have their
department rules apply.

I know that I can use the “Support Company Access Config” to share the people
data across the various departments, but then my dilemma is that when a support
user select a customer, that customer’s company gets populated with a company
which might not be (and probably won’t be) the same company (department) of the
support user, so the support user’s company (department) rules will not be
applied, it will be the rules associated to the customer's company.

Any ideas/suggestions on how to force it to be the support person’s company
(department) rules, again, short of coding changes?

Thanks for any help/ideas/etc.

John

I agree with the google analysis...the method that's throwing the exception
is trying to load a properties file, and it obviously can't because of some

I notice that online photo sites kind of compress your photos and do not
display it in the same resolution that you take them in which is why they
offered me with no incentive to create any accounts on them. I prefer buying
my own storage devices so I can store them as is with no reduction or loss
of EXIF image information..

Indeed that's often the case. That's the case for Google + for example which limits to 2000+ pixel (at least until very recently). We had a pro account on flickr but it's not available anymore ("lol")...The flickr free account though sounds good enough, the limit for a picture is 200 MB / photo (1 TB overall) and it compresses to quite a lot of versions (http://www.flickr.com/help/photos/) but the original size remains. For example you have this picture:http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/in/set-72157636240541474That exists in a lot of versions (http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/sizes/l/in/set-72157636240541474/), and also the original size (5184x3888 for 6.3 MB):http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/sizes/o/in/set-72157636240541474/http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2859/10113207695_f4bab96dae_o_d.jpgAnd on this picture you still have the EXIF.Laurent.On 09 Oct, 2013,at 01:35 AM, Joe D'Souza jdso...@shyle.net wrote:I notice that online photo sites kind of compress your photos and do not display it in the same resolution that you take them in which is why they offered me with no incentive to create any accounts on them. Carl,

Thanks for the response.

Your assessment was precisely what our problem was, although in our case
both the jobs and transformation were missing completely! Not sure what
happened there, but we imported the correct job/trans for the import

Not sure what happened to the original jobs/trans as I completed a

Re: 8.1 DMT issue failure to import data...

Hi Rick,
I have seen this on a completely fresh install of 8.0 before, and had
another issue where the plugin for AI was not installed correctly on the
ARS/ITSM install (I came in after the install) and then no Jobs/Transforms
loaded at all (had to fix that one after the fact - thus pulling apart the
DMT - joy).

As they are initially installed by the installer, an error can cause them to
not be loaded correctly into the repository - a export from a working system
and import into the target via Spoon is all that is needed.

repository as an attachment - these can sometimes not be present or
corrupt and the ID's between the DMT Job (yes confusing as BMC are
 sharing
terminology) and actual repository AI Job do not match.

I've done some research, and found a lot of material to review
regarding plug-in errors (including one I posted earlier this year,
but that resolution doesn't work this time around). This has worked
before, as I've imported all of the foundation data using DMT

Any ideas? This issue is holding up UAT.

Re: Sort of OT: Pictures of WWRUG13..

2013-10-08 Thread Joe D'Souza
If they have increased it to as much as 200 MB / picture, then I have not
used flicker for a very very long time! The very first time I had wanted to
try it and found that they use a compression method that you could loose
most of your EXIF information, I didn't even bother creating an account. I
prefer storing my pictures in a NEF format so I can play around with it if
need be although most of the time I prefer to keep them untouched by photo
editing software. I tend to use photo editing software for very primary
tasks like captioning them, and in case my sensor caught a mole, to remove
that out, considering I have a old digital camera.

I'll let you'll know where I end up hosting them.

Indeed that's often the case. That's the case for Google + for example which
limits to 2000+ pixel (at least until very recently).

We had a pro account on flickr but it's not available anymore (lol)...
The flickr free account though sounds good enough, the limit for a picture
is 200 MB / photo (1 TB overall) and it compresses to quite a lot of
versions (http://www.flickr.com/help/photos/) but the original size remains.

For example you have this picture:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/in/set-721576362405414
74

That exists in a lot of versions
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/sizes/l/in/set-721576
36240541474/), and also the original size (5184x3888 for 6.3 MB):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/sizes/o/in/set-7215763
6240541474/
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2859/10113207695_f4bab96dae_o_d.jpg
And on this picture you still have the EXIF.

Laurent.

BMC Communities documents image file size limitations:

Maximum file size: 2.0 MB. Also, please note that images larger than 1600px
wide or 900px tall will be scaled to fit those limits in your content.

Even my 6 year old Nikon that I carry around on road trips (such as the RUG)
creates images larger than that. So that's clearly not an option. However
I'll try to work around that and let the engine scale it down and see how
they turn out.

I wouldn't consider flickr or YouTube the permanent/final location for your

still keep the originals like you normally do. Honestly I don't want to
wait for your 60mb .NEFs to download to view them :)

Hi,

Dropbox has a 4GB limit now - that is another option.

Joe

Indeed that's often the case. That's the case for Google + for example which
limits to 2000+ pixel (at least until very recently).

We had a pro account on flickr but it's not available anymore (lol)...
The flickr free account though sounds good enough, the limit for a picture
is 200 MB / photo (1 TB overall) and it compresses to quite a lot of
versions (http://www.flickr.com/help/photos/) but the original size remains.

For example you have this picture:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/in/set-721576362405414
74

That exists in a lot of versions
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/sizes/l/in/set-721576
36240541474/), and also the original size (5184x3888 for 6.3 MB):
http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/10113207695/sizes/o/in/set-7215763
6240541474/
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2859/10113207695_f4bab96dae_o_d.jpg
And on this picture you still have the EXIF.

Laurent.

I notice that online photo sites kind of compress your photos and do not
display it in the same resolution that you take them in which is why they
offered me with no incentive to create any accounts on them. I prefer buying
my own storage devices so I can store them as is with no reduction or loss
of EXIF image information..

Well you could create a discussion
(https://communities.bmc.com/discussion/create.jspa?containerType=700
https://communities.bmc.com/discussion/create.jspa?containerType=700contai
nerID=1029 containerID=1029) or a document
https://communities.bmc.com/document/create.jspa?containerType=700containe
rID=1029 containerID=1029) or a blog post
https://communities.bmc.com/blog/create-post!input.jspa?containerType=37co
ntainerID=2412 containerID=2412) and upload photos there but it would be
quite crude indeed... There is no album function on BMC community (sadly).
We use flickr to upload our photos
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/88660367@N05/sets) since wwrug12 because there
is a nice sync functionality on Iphoto but well, since you don't really like
online photo sharing sites...

Is there any place within this community or that of BMC Communities that I
can share some pictures that I took? I am not a big fan of picasso or some
of those online photo sharing sites so have not created any accounts on
them.

I haven't clicked as many as Tony Worthington may have as he was more active
with his camera than I, but I got a few that might be worth sharing..
