Re: [Blind-Computing] auto response

2010-09-27 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
Yvonne,

I'm not sure if there are external programs that do this but
back prior to retiring, I used Outlook at the office on an
exchange server and an option under tools or actions was the
out of office assistant. You could customize your message
and control how it was sent out. I just looked on my home
version of outlook and don't see that option. Another thing
you may want to check out is many groups that I'm currently
part of greatly frown on auto responders and some have this
as grounds to be excluded from the list. Hope this helps.

hi
i noticed this when i was sighted but never took a lot of
notice of it or what it does or what it was really used for.
and of course it was not as widely used then as it is today
i am referring to the auto response message that goes to a
person sending an email when a person is unavailable to deal
with it for some reason
for example 1 of these is used when a person is away from
the office and is worded something like this
i am currently out of the office until 1st October.
does anyone know where i can get one of these auto response
message boards and how much they are and of course is there
a charge to use them?
thank you

[Blind-Computing] Multiple email accounts

2010-09-24 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
The following question is based on using Outlook 2000

I currently use Road runner for my internet access email.
One option they offer is to create sub email accounts under
the master one. I now have two email accounts and have
configured Outlook to download mail automatically from both
accounts to my inbox when checking for new messages. In
Outlook 2000 under tools and then accounts, both accounts
are listed and I get the option to set one as my default
email client. In playing with this it appears whichever I
select as default is the address used for new outgoing
messages. Everything seems to share the same outlook.pst
folder regardless of which email address I'm using. My
question is there a quick way to change from one identify to
the other (i.e. keystroke) without having to change the
default account as described above?

Hello there;

so are you asking,
is there a keystroke to choose which outgoing account you
want to use?
if so, when you create new message,
shift+tab once, you should see your 2 accounts,
just arrow to the one which you want to send message from,
now continue with creating your message.

Hi all.
Now with Windows XP you have no choice but a clean install.
There is
simply no in-place upgrade path from XP to 7. If you think
about it,
what is the point if XP is getting to be an old operating
system.

 Hi.
Even if your Vista is not broken, I would encourage you
to take the
time and complete the upgrade. You should have sighted
assistance
around just in case you run into any problems.
Fortunately, I have
upgraded and even reinstalled Windows 7 several times,
all without
sighted assistance. However your mileage may vary
depending on many
 factors, including computer hardware.
First off, download and install the Windows 7 Upgrade
Advisor just so
you are prepared in case of any incompatibilities or
extra steps you
need to take before, during or after the upgrade.
Next, ensure you do a clean install, rather than an
in-place upgrade.
This will require backing up your files as the Vista
installation will
be wiped off and replaced with a fresh install of Windows
7. Yes, I
appreciate you can do an in-place upgrade from Vista to
7, however you
may run into problems that could only be resolved with a
clean
install. So might as well save the trouble and do a clean
install anyway.
But on the whole I think you will enjoy Windows 7 and
what it has to
offer. It feels and looks like Vista, but is certainly
much more
responsive and stable compared to Vista. It even runs on
lower
hardware. I stress lower as this is the first time in the
history of
Windows that less powerful hardware will work on Windows
7.
Good luck with the upgrade. Please take your time. Please
get back to
us if you need further help or you have further
questions.
 Many thanks.

I am not sure I understand exactly what you are attempting
to do in your
situation. Are you wanting to make backups of essential
CDs, such as
Windows XP? If so, I think you want a utility that will
make an ISO file
copy of the CD. It will make an exact image of the CD into
one container
file. It will even capture the boot information if the disk
is bootable.
It will not directly let you look at individual files
without a special
archive style program. It will also not work with most copy
protected CDs,
such as games. An ISO file can be burnt back to a blank
disk at any time or
some programs can be used to mount the file just as if you
inserted the
disk.

There are many utilities to work with ISO files. My
favorite is called ISO
Recorder. It provides simple wizard style dialogs to rip
(copy from disk to
file) and burn (copy from file to disk). It will also work
with DVD data
disks, which can contain 4.7 GB of storage, on Vista and
Windows 7.

Make sure that
you have downloaded and installed all Windows Updates this

these vulnerabilities are publicised, the virus writers will
attack all
computers whose users are not diligent with these updates or

I wonder if the timing of these fixes had anything to do

Hi, Eleni,

I know there's this text-based web browser called web IE.
Maybe it might
work with what you're wanting to do since it's text-based.
With web IE you
don't have to worry about pictures or anything like that.
That's the only
web browser I can recommend for a simple web browser. You
can get it from

Give it a try and see if it works out for you.

Hope this helps.

 Hello to everyone,

Please forgive the multiple posts that I'll be making
today, but I
didn't want to lump everything into one topic and confuse
everyone. I
promise to not make overposting a habbit and the other
posts will be
 shorter than this one.

In any case, my birth name is Tiffany but I intend on
switching
legally to Eleni, so that's what I'll be using here.
Some of you may
know me from Facebook, from the Zone or from other
places. I'm 26 and
 I've loved MS-DOS ever since I was a teenager. I've used
Windows for
14 years with JFW, Hal, a demo of WindowEyes and NVDA and
have also
used Leopard and Snow Leopard. Recently, however, I've
found a system
called Enhanced DR-DOS. It's based off DR-DOS and is
100% MS-DOS
compatible but is still being updated to keep it modern.
My intention
is to switch to it for most things. To that end, I'm in
the process
of having a truly custom desktop built. I'm wondering if
you could
recommend or help me find some DOS and
screenreader-Compatible
technology and software such as a flatbed scanner and/or
accessible
ocr software, a bar code reader, an internet browser, a
txt and/or rtf
editor, a spreadsheet program and anything else that
comes to mind. I
know that there is alot of software and hardware out
there, some older
and some newer, but it's difficult finding out what's
accessible and
what's not and this is even more a problem when the
software is
commercial, since I'd then be stuck with something that I
can't use.
On the other hand, most of the places that sold the
adaptive
technology no longer have it or no longer exist. I'm
especially
interested in ocr and am considering Omnipage but don't
know which is
the last version for DOS. I have Recognita but not the
latest one and
have been searching for an Open Book Unbound but can't
find it and am
not sure what scanners work with it. I e-mailed Benetech
but got no
response. I have a Braille Blazer and two external Echos
and a
 non-working Accent SA, so I don't immediately need a
synthesizer.
That said, I really would love to find something better,
especially a
KeyNote SA or Companion (looking for seven years with no
luck), an
Apollo capable of speaking in Greek or a DecTalk Express
or PC. I own
a KeyNote Gold Laptop with the Voicecard inside and adore
the speech,
but am worried about transferring it to another computer
due to it's
fragility. I also have Word Perfect 5.1 and it's text
editor, though
as you'll see in another post, it's acting a bit
strangely with
VocalEyes. NoteWorthy is wonderful, but since it's a
tsr, it can only
handle small files and I only have the demo. I know that
no selling
etc. is allowed on the list, but if you have a piece of
technology
that you think might benefit me, please e-mail me
offlist.

 Thanks,
 Eleni

Yes, that is so true. We have a modem from Clearwire and all
five lights
need to be blinking before we have a strong signal.
Rich has a light probe and it works perfect.
We also use it for lights in the house if they are left on

For Lisa and others who may be concerned with knowing the
status of
indicator lights on a router or modem, I can determine
which lights are
 on,
off, or blinking with a light probe. Independent Living
aids has one for
twenty-three dollars and change. They work well for a
number of things. I
use my probe to tell me about the lights on various
cooking devices such
 as
a rice cooker, foreman grill, and many other things. It
will find lights
 on
those little cube shaped power supplies that plug into the
wall; the
blinking light on the victor stream; the light on the
computer speakers;
and a host of other things I can't bring to mind just now.
Just a
 thought.
 Lois Goodine.

 Hope this helps. Take care.

 HI David:

Here is a repeat of the message you wanted from Ishe.

 Hi,
Sorry for the annoyance, but try this:
 1. Go to Start menu, choose Run...
 2. From the dialog box that appears, typeregsvr32 /i
shell32.dll
 3. Press Ok.

A message will inform you that DllRegisterServer and
DllInstall in
 shell32.dll succeeded.

Press OK to dismiss the message, and enjoy!

 Hope this helps.

It restores your shell32 dll file if it was corrupted. It

[Blind-Computing] M4p files

2010-06-15 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
Good morning,

I know the I tunes store, which my understanding is much
more accessible than in the past, offers much, if not all,
of their music in M4p format. The VR Stream now supports
that as long as there is not a D R M overlay associated with
the file. Does I tunes offer any free (public domain) M4p
downloads or is all the stuff on their site simply for
sale?

thanks

Hi Jacob;

I have been trying to download the Adobe Flashplayer since
last Monday. No
matter what website I tried, the downloads all work the
same. When you
click on the Run option a screen appears that Jaws will
not read. I had
to have a sighted person install the Flashplayer at both
homes on 3
different computers because I couldn't get Jaws to work no
matter what
cursor I tried or how it was routed. What comes up when you
click on the
Run option is a screen that you have to click on a box
agreeing to their
terms and another box to install and as I stated earlier
Jaws won't read any
of it. If anyone has a fix for this I certainly wish they
would post it! I
ran into the same problem trying to use the website you have
provided. Take
care.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] No Speech on Boot up

Hi All,

I seem to be back to normal now, but I had a problem with
JAWS not speaking
when I booted up this morning and I'm wondering if any of
the possibilities
I'm thinking of could have been the cause or if I'm totally
wrong.

I turned off the computer last night, but didn't baby-sit it
to see if it
went through the whole routine without problems. The case
wasn't vibrating
and there were no fan noises etc., so I figure it had
totally shut down. I
booted up and did not sit there while it booted and when I
came back
probably half an hour or longer, JAWS wouldn't speak at all
and my efforts
to shut down properly failed. I unplugged the machine and
got speech back
when it booted up.

Critical updates are supposed to be installed automatically
and I remembered
that MS was supposed to issue a slew, but there was nothing
in the sys tray
about updates being ready to install and the whole bunch was
listed on the
MS update page when I checked. I took care of that little
chore.

My first possibility for the loss of speech was that the
'puter started the
download and installation process before JAWS loaded, but
when I sat through
the boot up, JAWS loaded before Windows.

The second possibility is that I have a paid Carbonite
subscription and I
thought maybe the Carbonite backup process was conflicting
with the
Microsoft one.

Does anyone know if either of these might have caused the
problem? I'm
running XP Home with SP3 and
JAWS 10.0.1178.

Thank you,

Margaret

2010-06-08 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
Jacob,

Although this suggestion will not help your current
situation, it will in the future. Consider using Image for
Windows. Sounds like you have a need to put your system back
to a solid starting point quite frequently. With Image for
Windows, you build your basic OS and all necessary programs
and then burn a basic image. Anytime you want to return to
that point you simply pop in the CD, go have a cup of coffee
and come back in about a half hour and your good to go. I
use this often and it is totally blind accessible. Just a
thought because I've been where you are and have spent hours

after
computerissues were resolved using windows XP service pack 3

This is a bit of a long shot, but last week after I tried to
restore my
windows XP machine back to a slightly older restore point
due to it starting
to have a couple operating system issues most likely due to
all the
software/configuration testing I've done on it, as per
usual, but the
machine seemed to not go anywhere after I left it restarting
for around half
an hour after telling it to use the clean restore point, and
eventually, I
had to literally run a windows installation repair, and then
install windows
XP service pack 3 to make it generally work again.

Now the issue is that it won't let me run certain
installation packages,
like trying to reinstall a version of adobe reader since it
seems to be
looking for installation files/components that don't exist,
but the main
thing that has now come around is that I can't even start
microsoft word
2003 since jaws seems to crash, and the whole system is
almost hanging -
only thing to do seems to be to hit Ctrl + Alt + Del keys,
wait a little
bit, hit Alt + U for turn off menu items, and then hit the R
key to choose
the restart option - all of this without any talking going
on, since even
narrator and NVDA don't seem to want to cooperate properly
when I then try
to make them act as a form of backup, and jaws is just
crashing outright.

Anyway, now tried reinstalling office 2003 in case it needed
to be
repaired/reverted to it's initial installation state, but
still doesn't
work, but, FWIW, other pieces of office software, like excel
do still work,
so it seems to be specifically word in this part of the
puzzle.

Anyway, apart from being pretty sure will again have to
reload windows from
scratch, like I normally seem to need to do around every 3-6
months, was
just wondering if anyone had any ideas/ideas to try sort
this out more
easily/quicker?

Just go ahead and remove the account and next time an

Outlook Express will remain as an available program under XP

I don't know which version of Windows is being used by Al so
I don't know if
a DOS prompt is available to him.

I do know that with WIN2K, a DOS prompt is available. With
that DOS prompt,
the DEL command will delete a file and the RD command will
remove a
directory (aka folder). These commands do work on a drive
that is connected
via the USB port.

If your version of Windows does provide a DOS prompt, after
you get to the
DOS prompt, type

CD G:

and press ENTER.

In the command shown above, replace the letter G with the
correct drive
letter for your drive of interest.

Use the DIR command to get a list of files and folders.

Use the CD command to change to a desired folder.

Use the ATTRIB command to get/set the attributes of any file
or folder.

Use the HELP command to get instructions on how to use any
of these
commands.

 Glad it worked.

Of course you can choose to do this regularly, but it is
not
 always
necessary unless you find some corrupt files.
However, for better system performance I recommend this
and
 a few
housekeeping chores. I personally schedule such things as
 defragmentation,
disk cleanup, backups and of course the disk checking
 utility on a monthly
basis. To let this not interfere with your day to day
work,
 you can just add
these command line tasks to the Schedule Tasks in the
 Control Panel so that
they may take place without your interference in future.

 Thanks and and take care,

 Ishe,

Thanks, problem resolved. When I did this last night, it
said there were 3 parts to the process and the first one
completed relatively quickly and I did hear something
 toward
the end about deleting something. It did not finish the
process until I booted this morning which took quite a
 while
since the G drive where I keep my backups is quite large.
This was a great tip and I'll keep for future reference .
 Is
it a good maintenance practice to run chkdsk on drives

 Joshua, or others

Well I just ran a chkdsk on an external hard drive with a
corrupt file or directory and it ran through the first of
three steps just like the internal one did last evening.
However, it did not complete the last two steps as the
 note
below indicates it will, and it did identify 3 things it
deleted on its first pass. I have not rebooted my
computer
this evening as I don't want to tie it up as I need to
use
it. But, here is my question. When I reboot later how is
chkdsk going to finish the job like it did with my
 internal
drive last evening as it is hooked up through a USB port
 and
I don't believe they become active until Window's boots?
I
did try unplugging the drive and reconnecting but still
can't delete that directory/file until the process
 completes
 itself.

 thanks Al

Of course you can choose to do this regularly, but it is
 not
 always
necessary unless you find some corrupt files.
However, for better system performance I recommend this

 a few
housekeeping chores. I personally schedule such things

 defragmentation,
disk cleanup, backups and of course the disk checking

 you can just add
these command line tasks to the Schedule Tasks in the

they may take place without your interference in future.

Mike,

The other night I did try renaming, copy, cut, etc all to no
avail. I did fix the problem today but it took several
hours. I went to the drive properties, then ctrl tab to
error checking, then and checked the box to automatically
fix errors and also checked the box to try to recover bad
sectors. It did allow me to finally delete what I wanted but
took way too long. It was a five step process. Thank
goodness I had other things to do today and just checked
back periodically. I wish there was a quicker way. In my
opinion, this took as long as reformatting the drive and
recopying the data to it.

thanks to you and all for the help

If your computer boots while the USB disc is connected, it
will perform the

The chkdsk utility is found in the system root, so you
simply open a command
line and type chkdsk.
This is used for checking your disk integrity and recovering
lost chains in
any directory.
From the message you are receiving, it looks like chkdsk
could be the
solution.

Open Run from the Start menu.
Type cmd and press Enter.
When the command prompt appears, simply type chkdsk,
followed by the path to
the directory which is corrupted or its drive.
For example, you can type chkdsk E:documents
or simply chkdsk E:
The verbose output will be spoken back by Jaws (or any
screen reader) so you
won't be bored by waiting.

Hope this may work.

If I remember correctly, these corrupted files have a tilda
or some kind of
sign at the front of their title. If you press your F2 key
with the file in

then press enter I
think the file can now be deleted. Pressing the F2 on a

After you have made the changes to your title / name press
enter to save the

Hi Al;

If I remember correctly, these corrupted files have a tilda
or some kind of
sign at the front of their title. If you press your F2 key
with the file in
question highlighted and delete the sign out of the name
then press enter I
think the file can now be deleted. Pressing the F2 on a
highlighted file
allows you to change / alter the whole name / title or any
part of it.
After you have made the changes to your title / name press
enter to save the
changes and save them. Hope, and I do mean hope, this
helps. Take care.

Re: [Blind-Computing] Deleting corrupt directory

2010-05-28 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
Ishe,

Thanks for the site. I went there and this is the
description
Ever had such an annoying message given by Windows: Cannot
delete file: Access is denied. There has been a sharing
violation. The source or destination file may be in use or
the file is in use by another program or user. Make sure the
disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not
currently in use. Unlocker is the solution. Unlocker is an
Explorer extension that allows you with a simple right-click
of the mouse on a file or folder to get rid of error message
such as error deleting file or folder, cannot delete folder:
it is used by another person or program.

Although this sounds like a useful tool in some situations I
believe my situation may be different? Here's the message
I'm getting:
Error Deleting File or Folder
Cannot delete Shoe #25.xls: The file or directory is
corrupted and unreadable.
OK

Any suggestions on how to deal with this? Your other
suggestion of running chkdsk on the directory or file sounds
good but I don't see an option to do that. What would the
command line in the run dialogue box look like to execute
that task?

thanks in advance
Al

Hi Mike and friends

You can download Unlocker Assistant here:

Basically it helps to eliminate those Windows annoying
messages like Access

 1. Run chkdsk on the directory to recover some chains.

 or

 2. Get the Unlocker tool. It will show you which process
is locking that
file. Try unlocking the file and delete it.

 Hello Francis,

Sorry it took so long to get an answer to your question.

I was also interested in converting text to Daisy and
here is a free and
quite easy to do just that.

 It will require three downloads:
 1. Open Office portable
 2. Open XML to DAISY
 3. Open XML to DAISY manual

I am using the portable version of Open Office because I
was unhappy how
the normal install version slowed down my computer.
The conversion still works with the portable version and
you have the
added bonus of being to save every thing on a USB drive.

You can read the manual for the step by step, but
in a nut shell here is what to do.

 1. install Open Office
 2. unzip the Open XML to DAISY plug in.
 3. Start open office
 4. navigate to the Tools Extension Manager
5 Add Odt2DaisyAddOn.oxt ( located in the file that you
unzipped
 earlier )
 6. Restart Open Office

Once you restart Open Office there will be an export to
Daisy option
 under the files menu.
When that option is selected, it will prompt for a file
name, then a
screen will appear telling you of the data that will be
stored in the
 Daisy document.
you will have to choose ok from this screen.
Ok and cancel are located at the bottom of the screen
This screen does not speak for me, maybe it will for you.

The first Daisy book conversion might give a message that
the Daisy
Pipeline was not found. This message has only appeared
once for me. A
light version of the Daisy Pipeline is part of what you
added to Open
 Office.

After the conversion you will have three folders under
the filename that
you choose to save the Daisy document as.
 An audio book
 a Daisy book
 a z3986

I do not know what the z3986 is, if you find out let me
know.

I have given the download urls below:

The problem was the clock on my brothers computer was way

the time being off screwed up something with Internet
certificates or
something like that. I reset the time and everything is
fine now.. Below
is the solution to the problem i found on the Internet.

This is a fairly un-common Windows Update error and
hopefully this article
will help you resolve the problems you are having.

The 0x80072f8f error code typically occurs because of a time
issue.

What causes Error 0x80072f8f

# The date / time on your computer is too different from the
date / time of
the
SSL
(Secure Sockets Layer) certificates used by the Windows
Update site..

Resolution Suggestion One:

# Check you have the correct time and date and time zone:

1. Double click the clock in the bottom right hand corner.
2. Check you have the correct time and date.
3. Click the Time Zone Tab.
4. Check you have the correct time zone.

Resolution Suggestion Two:

# Re-register these important files and check IE settings:

1. Click Start.
2. Choose Run.
3. In the Run box, type: regsvr32 Mssip32.dll
4. Click OK.
5. Repeat this time typing: regsvr32 Initpki.dll

...now

6. Open

7. Select the Tools menu and then select Internet Options
8. Choose the Advance tab
9. Unselect 'check for

[Blind-Computing] Anti-now.exe error

2010-05-06 Thread Alan Terrie Robbins
Wondering if anyone on this list using MSE ever encounters
an error message called anti-now.exe has generated an error.
You then have the usual option of sending or not sending
Microsoft a notification of this? I get this error message
about 2-3 times a week and assume it is tied in with MSE as
that is the only anti virus and anti spy ware I'm running

thanks,

I want to purchase a program for making a disk image/backup
of my computer.

I've been using Acronis True Image, but this isn't very JAWS
friendly. I'm
wondering if the Norton Ghost program (or whatever it is)
will work better
with JAWS.

Thus, should I upgrade to the newer version of Acronis or
jump ship and
purchase the Norton version? Perhaps there is another
program which does
this?

I realize that Windows 7 has an imaging program, but you
can't pull isolated
files from this backup - Only the entire image can be
retrieved.

Thanks for any advice.

My understanding was MSE updates at least daily, possibly
more often if there is a new definition database available.
It also offers real time protection. You can set it to scan

Hi, Stanley.

I also briefly used MSE for a short time after I decided to
ditch Avast. It
had a very, intuitive user interface, but the program made
me a bit queasy
as it didn't seem to have any controls or options to control
how often it
updated its definitions. I read that MSE updates along with
the Windows
updates but I feel that Microsoft should have a separate
update scheduler in
MSE's options screen. However, I am glad that Microsoft has
given us
another choice for a free antimalware program which is 100%
accessible.

I took a look at Open Book the other day as the March FS

currently use OmniPage Pro and unfortunately Open Book will

will not find in ordinary commercial software. However, if
totally blind and you own JAWS I find the price too high.
Great product but for what I personally use a scanner for it
is too costly.

Local backup is great and fast, but you should also keep a
backup of all of
your critical files off site. Off site is somewhere outside
of your house
or work. Thinnk of a house fire, theft, or natural
disaster that might
destroy your computer and local backup. This can be a
second external
drive, mail DVDs to your Mother, or copy to a web service.
This usually
means a paid, install and forget service like Carbonite,
Mozy, or Amazon S3.
I am cheap and have not signed up for any of these yet. I
was investigating
Microsoft's free services, SkyDrive and Live Mesh. Both
provide 5 GB space
free. SkyDrive is not yet well integrated into Windows
Explorer and hard to
use. live Mesh at mesh.com, is very easy to use. You can
set it up to
synchronize much like DropBox to any folder or folders on
your computer. It
has some sharing features, but I do not think you can post a
public address
to a file. I think sharing revolves around email addresses.
If you install
this interesting software, do not allow it to install the
Desktop Sharing
feature, which it wants to do by default. This feature
allows the sighted
to see and work with their remote computer through a web
browser. Cool
feature! But useless to most on this list! It actually
conflicts with
other software. It also sets up a video mirror driver. It
screwed up my
computer for a while. When I attempted to reinstall without
the Desktop
Sharing feature, I renamed one of the folders I was
synching and lost a
week's worth of calendar updates! I should get something
set up soon, just
to be safe.

If you want to backup the files from your computer, invest

It's much easier, not to mention quicker,

saying all cookies made by Nabisco are terrible because you
don't like their
Oreos. I'll agree that Microsoft has come up with some
seriously bad ideas
in their day but in every case that I'm aware of, they have
worked hard to
resolve their mistakes and are still doing so. I have no
reason for
recommending Microsoft's Security Essentials other than the
fact that it was
based on Windows Live One Care, a truly excellent suite of
protection tools.
Unlike many other anti-virus programs, there is no part of
Security
Essentials that isn't accessible to screen readers. It's
straight forward
and does exactly what it says it will do without hogging RAM
or making a
general nuisance of itself. The program is quite capable of
customization
and doesn't use up an unusual amount of static memory. Now,
you may need a
little help in getting it downloaded for the first time
since the web site
has an image based link which Jaws cannot read. I haven't
tried it with any
alternative screen reader yet. Some of the Open Code ones
might have better
luck at finding that link. But once you have the program,
installing it is
quite easy. Like most good anti-virus programs, the first
thing it does is
scan your computer and update itself with the most current
definitions.
It's relatively new as far as protection suites go, but it
is using
definitions which have been developed by Live One Care and
Defender. Those
programs have been in existence for much longer. At this
time, Microsoft is
offering Security Essentials free of charge. I'm sure that
it won't stay
that way for long, though.
So, from the standpoint of ease of operation, variety of
features and
ability to navigate, I can recommend Microsoft Security
Essentials as a good
choice for visually impaired computer users.

I do not know if there is anything you can do about that. I
do not know
whether this is a new JAWS feature or a new Microsoft
accessibility feature.
It is supposed to make most of the toolbar areas accessible
just by Tabbing
around after reaching the bottom of the page. It is
occasionally nice to be
able to get to these areas. Most of the time it is just
annoying!
Especially since the focus sometimes moves to this area and
I get lost.
When this happens, the best way to find my way back to the
page is to press
F6 until it announces it is in the address bar. Then I
press Shift + F6, to
get back to the page. I usually then use Control + Home to
get to the top
of the page.

If anyone has found a better way, I would like to know about
it.

 Hello folks:

I have a question and I hope to gain several responses
from this post.

When teaching jaws to a sighted individual,
not partially
sighted, but full blown 20-20, what would your approach
be?

Meaning: would you turn the screen off so
the person can
 get
the full affect of how to use jaws? Would you iliminate
using the mouse?
What would be the most important thing to mention/keep in
mind when
 teaching
sighted folks? If I have more questions to add, I will
post them to this
thread. If you do not want to generate tons of traffic on

locate a tiny

 a

I have a set of bluetooth headphones that let me plug
 their

into my computer and then up to around 20m away, the
 headphones will work,
but they don't have any form of internal input/output,
and
 they only seem
to be able to connect to each other since no other
 bluetooth devices see
them as such.

I think, in the past you also got a short range radio
 transmitter which
would let you plug it into the output jack on your
 computer and then
within something like 50-150m range, you could pick up
 it's output on a
somewhat limited radio transmission frequency, but
 wouldn't know where to
 look for something like this.

The closest had back in 2005 was effectively, an MP3
 player you loaded
music onto, then when you plugged it into your car's
 cigarette lighter for
power, it would play the music broadcasting it on
 something like 88.2MHz
for you to pick it up internally on the car's radio, and
 I
 think they said
it had something like a 15m transmission radius.

Hi:
I think I can add a little to this: I purchased a wireless
head set for my
mother, as she is hard of hearing from Radio shack it has a
transmitter that
plugs into the back of the TV, don't see why this wouldn't
work for stereos,
now let me warn you the price was about $100. I also
purchased a transmitter
that permits my Victor reader stream to be played through
the FM radio in
the car, don't remember the price but wasn't nearly as much
as the TV head
set.

I have a set of bluetooth headphones that let me plug their
transmitter
into my computer and then up to around 20m away, the
headphones will work,
but they don't have any form of internal input/output, and
they only seem
to be able to connect to each other since no other
bluetooth devices see
them as such.

I think, in the past you also got a short range radio
transmitter which
would let you plug it into the output jack on your
computer and then
within something like 50-150m range, you could pick up
it's output on a
somewhat limited radio transmission frequency, but
wouldn't know where to
 look for something like this.

The closest had back in 2005 was effectively, an MP3
player you loaded
music onto, then when you plugged it into your car's
cigarette lighter for
power, it would play the music broadcasting it on
something like 88.2MHz
for you to pick it up internally on the car's radio, and I
think they said
it had something like a 15m transmission radius.

Dear Tom,
That is just about what I do!

Except I use a Word doc file!

The only thing is I have to use that removable Scotch Tape,
it is number
811, which sticks about like a post it note, it sticks but
is easily
removed, to attach my check to the top left hand corner of a
letter size
sheet of paper to run it through my printer!

The checks are just too too small to run through my HP 950c
printer!

I usually print all my monthly checks at one setting, so I
just use one
sheet of paper!

But I have been doing it like that for many years!

I didn't hear any suggestions, so this is what I did.
With a bunch of trial and error, I made an Excell file
