[slim] Getting rid of slimserver

2007-01-20 Thread meltsheep

I'm going to stick my neck out here ! Slimserver is a poor man's
solution to digital music management. The model is wrong and it won't
last. Why can't I rip CDs and play them via Squeezebox with one
application.

I want to use iTunes or Amarok to manage my music and PUSH it to
Squeezebox. I'm fed up of having to add music to a READ ONLY repository
and not being able to tag it and play it directly from my file system in
one go. The PULL paradigm doesn't equate to my listening habits.

If Squeezebox is going to retain a competitve edge it must do provide
something akin to providing a virtual sound driver that masquerades as
a device on windows / linux allowing you to play music over wifi to the
squeezebox. This was it would be client agnostic and not tie you into
using Slimserver. Surely this is real open-source model and the
direction slimserver should be taking.

[slim] Re: Slow Transporter

2007-01-20 Thread KeithL

It continued to drop the analog output, even though the vu meters showed
music was being played.

I returned it to Ripcaster and I'm back with my sb3 which doesn't lose
analog output.

I got a full refund from Jon Nelson of Ripcaster.
Thanks Jon for an excellent service.

I imagine that the majority of Squeezebox users use a computer situated
in one room to rip their music and then listen to it on their hifi in
another room using the remote (after all isn't 99.9% of the point of
the Squeezebox to allow you to play music on your hifi without needing
a PC in the same room?). When you consider this, having one piece of
sofware to rip, tag and also play your music is nonsense... it must be
best to use a dedicated program that's better at it surely?
Dunno quite what you mean by READ ONLY.. I guess you are not talking
about file permissions. SlimServer could be considered to be READ ONLY
but the repository of music files is not. Personally I'm very happy
that SlimServer can't change my files... I remember installing iTunes
when it was first released. It changed all my music files and
directories. There was no option to stop it doing this on set-up (that
was changed by Apple pretty quickly though).

That's the obvious possibility. But the guy at the Vigor support team
hasn't suggested it as a possibility, and says he has never seen it. Of
course, he may be incompetent.

Also, I can't understand why that hostname should be relevant for
purely local use.

It's not that strange if you look at it from the POV of a large company
where the workstations are configured by dhcp. It's not that strange to
be able to update the hostname together with the IP address from a
central location. Especially not if you use dynamic addresses together

My slimserver (on a Linux server) advertises itself as the hostname I
set manually. But then I never use DHCP for servers and only static dhcp
entries for workstations, cams and SB's. Much more convenient for many
reasons.

I have a server based setup in my house. I rip my music on a wireless
(Windows) laptop and save it on a (Linux) server share. Slimserver is
also runing on that Linux box. IMHO that is the architecture best suited
for slimserver/SB/TP setups. Slimserver is not really meant for running
on laptops and makes little sense to people who use their PC/laptop as a
slimserver. For them it seems a strangely contrived way of playing music.

For me it's perfect. The server is up 24/7 so I can always access my
music even when the laptop is closed or otherwise inaccessible. Client
PC's go on and off the network. The server stays running and doing the
things servers do, like downloading stuff, recording TV shows, playing
music, allowing remote access, serving web pages, etc. etc.

That's the kind of world where the slimserver makes sense. Now,
obviously, I'm way ahead of the crowd in this (like many in this mailing
list), but I'm convinced most people will be running servers in some
form in a not so distant future. Perhaps then they will understand.

I see. Well, as you see, it's not just sonically different, it's a
totally different way of looking at music and networks that offers a
whole new world of possibilities. You should stop trying to use the SB

I'd like the PC sound driver that taps into the SB idea, but I wouldn't
want it to replace the current architecture. It's just too limiting.

2007-01-20 Thread Ramage

Just to test the feasibility of your proposal I set up the following:

* NSLU NAS+Slimserver connected to SB3 with crossover ethernet cable
* Set up wireless bridge to my main network.

Entered all required IP addresses for my network and it worked
perfectly.

I am able to connect the SB directly to the Slimserver on the NSLU
through the cable and also access the NSLU from my PC over the wireless
bridge, as if it was connected directly to the network. The NSLU is also
able to access the internet through the default gateway.

Looks like what you propose will work OK

Excellent. I guess an NSLU, an external harddisk and an SB2 could make a
fully functional car system. I'd be interested in reading more on your
project as it developes. Perhaps I'll go that way myself sometime in the

I recently bought a mac mini for the main functions of what apple tv

anyone with a technical background, particlarly as you have the remote

We'll find out soon enough, they ship in a couple of weeks. I'm very
interested in one fed into a DAC, iTunes is far more family friendly

reasonably low jitter.

It was probably a decision by Draytek when they updated the firmware,

Does the Squeezebox get the name Vigor12 direct from the router? Or

It's possible that it gets it from a reverse DNS lookup (find the name
that's connected to the ip) directed at the draytek, but I don't think
that's the case. My guess is that the slimserver software asks the OS
for the hostname and the SB gets it from slimserver during the discovery
process.

Looking at the Slim::Network::Discovery source that seems to be the
case. Slimserver gets the hostname from Sys::Hostname and passes it to
the SB as part of the discovery process. There doesn't seem to be a way
to override it. Stop using DHCP or find a way to override the hostname
in OS/X.

I rate iTunes very highly as software, its only serious flaw being a
lack of a plugin API (ergo, you can;t play native flac in iTunes).

Maybe my real issue is that I'd be happy to keep all my music in iTunes
except that right now its flac. The Slim server iTunes itegration works
pretty well. Hmm. I will think about a migration from flac to aiff and
use iTunes ot manage music and slim to serve it.

[slim] Re: Getting rid of slimserver

2007-01-20 Thread Paul_B

Peter,

The home server is probably the next big thing in computing for Joe
public. As homes become more digital it makes sense to have a central
controller and repository.

I started off with a NAS device with Slimserver bundled into it. It
changed the way I listened to music and I suffer now loss in quality
through playing it through a Squeezebox. I became so dependent on this
setup I had to make it more flexible for me (my personal approach may
not suit everyone).

Now I have a central server for the house running on a Mini-ITX server
running Windows 2003 Server. It also runs Slimserver. My data is on the
NAS device which also acts as my print server. For me this is fantastic
and is flexible to my needs.

The operation of Ripping and tagging is a one-off, the CD arrives, it
is ripped, tagged, packed away. The music is then available to everyone
in the house through a PC or the SB3 in the lounge and just the remote.
I can add plugins like Slimscrobbler, Biography, Album Review, xAP
interface to stream news headlines and TV reminders.

For me this is a wonderful setup and Slimserver is great. I know I like
many in the forums are ahead of the crowd. I don't want Slimserver to be
less flexible or dumbed down. Maybe someone could write a wizard for the
less experienced user to use standard ripper, tagger and play options
as Slimserver as the backend

[slim] Vista Slimserver

2007-01-20 Thread urbanshepherd

Hi, having used slimserver without any problems for some time, I decided
to get cocky and upgrade to Vista. Woe is me...

The problem I'm having, is that when Vista boots, slimtray starts
without problem, however slimserver never starts and has to be started
via the slimtray icon.

I've selected 'Automatically run at system start' from the slimtray
icon but this seems to have no effect. Has anyone had a similar issue,
and a resolution?

Thanks.

2007-01-20 Thread msui772

Thanks for the suggestion. I had tried the factory reset (which is what
I meant by the system reset) but no joy.

There must be some way of diagnosing why a SB is rebooting... really!
I live in France Does anyone know if there is a service center here or
somewhere else in Europe to avoid the expense of sending the unit to
the U.S.? When you add the shipping and the repair cost - it starts
approaching the price of a discounted new one...

Well I am grateful for the replies I've had, but what I would like to
know is - given my expensive (if beautifully crafted) paperweight /
clock. Is there anyone with a suggestion for diagnosing if not actually
fixing the problem. Some way of getting it to log activity...

Thanks in advance,

Michael

P.S. I notice that some of the ruder members of the community have had
many replies. Is that the way to proceed? ;-)

[slim] Re: Getting rid of slimserver

2007-01-20 Thread Kevin O. Lepard

The content is immutable within slimserver.

As it should be, IMO. The Slimserver's job is to get the music to
the Squeezebox. It should not ever alter the music library in any
way. This has actually been discussed in the past, and although some
people disagree, I believe the majority felt that Slimserver should
not manipulate the library. I still feel that way.

I want to be able to edit my music collection meta-data

Why do you need to do this within Slimserver?

In any case, you can use iTunes to manipulate the library and
metadata (at least on the Mac side) and Slimserver can use the iTunes
library.

play them immediately without going though the re-scan routine.

You can. While a re-scan is occurring you can still browse your
folder hierarchy to play anything in it.

This how most people play music on their PCs. So why should
playing it over wifi any different to using PC speakers? My point is
the paradigm of a 'music server' seems a bit odd.

I play the music through my stereo, and like many others I have a
music server that does just that, serve music on demand to my
stereos. It's on 24/7. I don't want it to be the way it is on a PC.

I don't want slimserver / squeezebox to replace my CD player. Maybe
that's the issue here. Maybe most people who buy this digital music
solution are planning to rip all their CDs and play them jukebox
fashion ?! I'm not. I don't want a music jukebox.

I think you're on target here. The product is fundamentally not
designed for what you want. It's designed to be a giant music
jukebox that can play all your music whereever you like via the
Squeezebox. If you're still within your 30 day return period, I--and
I mean this politely--suggest you consider returning it. I don't
believe it is designed to do what you want and I think it is unlikely
you will end up being happy with your purchase. If you're outside
the 30-day period, the SB3's retain pretty good resale value.

Kevin

P.S. I, too, wish iTunes would handle FLAC and its cue sheets.

I recently bought a mac mini for the main functions of what apple tv
would provide.

I agree. I'm on the verge of getting one for just that function.
I'm just holding out for it to have 802.11n and a Core 2 Duo in it.
I'm disappointed that it wasn't updated with those features at
MacWorld. I figure it will happen soon, though. I can't imagine
they're selling well now that essentially everything is 802.11n
(well, pre-n).

I was disappointed that there is no VOB or MPEG2 support in Apple TV.
That makes it a total non-starter for me.

I guess the non-technical market is rather larger...

That seems very likely.

You'll need to supply more info.

Get the version of Slimserver from the bottom of the Server settings
page within the UI.

Also, are the WMA's purchased from an online music store, or where they
ripped within Media player.

The SB cannot natively play WMA files with DRM enabled.

You'll perhaps have to attach one of the songs for someone else to
test.

2007-01-20 Thread tyler_durden

If you bought a nice sports-car and the auto company later went to your
house and took it away, leaving you an SUV instead, because they retain
the right to change the car after the purchase, you'd be very angry.
Then if you couldn't drive that car on just any road, but had to use
the toll-roads set up by that company, you'd be even more angry.

What word describes a person who knowingly enters into such a contract?
I can think of several but the least offensive one is INSANE. Yet,
there are many who buy music under those same terms. They buy music
from an on-line store called itunes. If you buy music from itunes, the
restrictions on the files can be changed at any time. From
http://www.infoworld.com/article/06/08/01/HNitunesdrmcomplaints_1.html
terms of agreement in the iTunes store, which retains the right to
change the terms of the purchase after it's made and claims no
responsibility for damage iTunes software could cause to users'
computers. What word would describe someone who knowingly enters into
such a contract? I can think of a few...

The fact that Slimserver doesn't write anything to your audio files is
VERY good. It means you retain full control over your music library,
unlike a library made of itunes music.

[slim] Re: Apple TV Competition?

2007-01-20 Thread rfrost

First, my friends, look over the damning discussion of this item on
engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/09/itv-becomes-apple-tv/.

I ordered one such unit the same day Stevie announced it, then looked
at the specs and realized that it was just another Apple gimmick to
keep people bound to the iTunes, iPod, and iTunes Music Store bundle.
Believe me, I've been an Apple user for 20 years now and I spend hours
each day on my Apple computer, but I've become wary of the ways Jobs
seeks lock-in. Just look at the messy and annoying DRM at the core of
all of the Apple entertainment technologies. Worse, Apple could have
offered a credible replacement for those dreadful set-top boxes we are
usually forced to lease from the cable providers, but the Apple TV
simply isn't a credible solution to that.

Slim has been heroic in support of open-source and fair-use solutions
for content, and it remains largely agnostic with respect to formats
and platforms. Bravo!

I'm building essentially the entertainment hub Apple TV claims to be.
It's pretty simple: take an old but not ancient laptop, load linux or a
hacked MacOSX on it, run Slim as either server-client or just client,
attach a Pinnacle HD Pro tuner stick on it, etc. For the real expert,
try mythtv. Also consider the forthcoming Netgear EVA8000 which will
have far better capabilities than the Apple device, and will prolly
cost a good bit less. Also consider the new variant on the SlingBox.

Remember that with AppleTV, you still need a DVD drive and some way to
control that, and good luck trying to install any codecs on it that are
not blessed by Steve.

everything, until the playlist automatically refreshed, when again

I need help on this one:

Suddenly my SB won't play a certain .asx stream. The internet radio
station has played well for a long time, but suddenly not anymore. When
I attempt to play the stream the SB goes black!

I'm using My Picks to the particular stream, which also holds other
streams that plays perfectly.

When I use the Tune in URL function, the same thing happen...the SB
goes black, and Slimserver needs to be restarted.

The stream i'm talking about is:
http://radio100fm.dk/netradio/100fm_live.asx

The stream plays well in my browser, when loading it there. Further the
stream is working well on the homepage for the radio station.

Any help anyone?

[slim] Fishbone skin gray style

2007-01-20 Thread socialxray

I really like the gray style of the Fishbone skin but when I open the
skin it always goes to the default style. Is there a way to make it
stay at the gray style? I have the same problem when it comes to the
album cover view. It always opens with the text listings instead of
the album covers.

Lastly is there a way to have the browser always open with a specific
player. I usually have a few players running and I would like to set
the web page to open with the player that is running on the computer
that I open the browser on instead of having to scroll through the
player list to choose the correct player.

Thanks for the help. :)

[slim] Some MusicIP 'brains-out-blowing' problems

2007-01-20 Thread Stan Pulsar

Hello there !

First, I'm sorry if the questions I'll ask here have some kind of
answer somewhere, but I've been trying to get this work for 3 days now,
diggind deep in both this forum and musicip's (unsuccessfully as you
might guess) and I really need to know if it's worth struggling
further.

I run SS 6.5.1 and MusicIP 1.7.1 on win XPsp2.
SS using MM, and 'blank' music folder setting.

I keep MM running as GUI, because in the headless app there's no way to
set exclusions (disabled tracks, books, ...) and in SS there's no way to
forget about unchecked songs, like when using iTunes.

There's one problem with MM-GUI's API service randomly stopping, but I
posted on musicip forums about that. Let's see.
Just to settle this, I've also checked all what follows in headless
mode with whole SS cache deleted, so this wouldn't be an answer.

What I want to expose here is the erratic behaviour of this fantastic
but capricious couple of apps.

My stats, shown in MM : 13002 songs (12989 mixables), 248 artists, 840
albums, 34 genres.

When SS first scans, everything matches. (except albums, but that's ok
since both apps don't handle my [n/a] tags the same)
But then, songs went down to 12997, and later on, after a short MM/SS
shutdown/reopen (in right order), back to 13001 (!) but this time with
only 229 artists...

In top of that, trying to create a mix doesn't always work...
Sometimes (when trying from webUI) it creates an empty list.
When trying from the remote, it shows 'MusicMagic Mix (1 of 50)' but
keeps repeating the same song (must be the same 'empty list' symptom).
Maybe this won't work while playing, I remember having stopped the song
once, retried and got it to work.

This whole flood to say that using this combination can be a real
hassle, but the mixing possibilities are huge.
But my music is on a local server, so I really need this to work from
the remote or the webUI (on another computer) without continually
having to physically access the server to restart, rescan or whatever.

So any advice by people managing to master this would be hihgly
welcomed.

I have similar behavior from FF/REW on the remote. So it is working on

Well, after a few more tries, this seems to be correct.
So it would be a nice feature to keep playing a track and being able to
lauch a mix 'up to come'.
And BTW, when displaying 'now playing' it would be easier to have this
option just after a right arrow hit, just like 'add to favorites' (I
already proposed this in the SS7 whishlist post)
Because navigating right, then twice down to show album, then right
again to show same track but with the littel 'm' then long 'play' to
start mix, this isn't quite handy.

It's great that it works, but how's the bandwidth? Any latency? Can

If you use the following style URL you can specify both the player and the skin

I would imagine the problem with the fishbone skin is related to

Perhaps someone changed the squeezebox firmware to allow this. If Ramage

going over the wireless interface (twice) he could try switching off the

Well yes, if you turned off the bridging function and went with the
wired interface it would work perfectly, but you could then not access
the NAS from a PC and you also couldn't get Internet/SqueezeNetwork
access.

Perhaps I'm confused at what the wireless bridge functionality really
does in a Squeezebox then. I thought it merely dumbly passed all
traffic coming from the wired interface out to the wireless interface
for the router to deal with. If it sifts through the incoming wired
traffic looking for packets destined for itself, it's acting more like
a router than a wireless bridge, right? It would be great if it did
that, but then it's not acting as a wireless bridge. Also if there's
no SlimServer on the wired interface it's a waste of resources as there
will never be any traffic destined for it. So I suspect it does not do
this.

Traffic coming over the wireless interface is a little easier to
understand - if it sees traffic destined for itself it processes it, if
it sees traffic destined for the bridged device it passes it down the
wired interface without processing it.

[slim] Debugging playlist problems

2007-01-20 Thread Rob McKaughan

I've got two problems I'd like to debug:

1) I've got the automatic rescan plugin enabled configured, but it
never picks anything up.

2) Rescan just playlists, rescan for new, and clean rescan all take
the same (long = 20m) time.

What d_* should I enable for these? I've tried d_plugin, d_scan,
d_playlist, but the log doesn't tell me much. I've tried adding in a
few others, but that makes the lo so verbose it's tough to wade
through.

One interface is the ethernet port, one is the wireless port, and one

So although that setup sounds convoluted, it really isn't... as far as

[slim] 6.5.1 scanner stops without completing

2007-01-20 Thread Diana

I installed the 6.5.1 shortly after it was released. Since then 'Clear
Rescan' has not worked: the scanner starts, runs for less than 30
secs, and then shuts down. The SS web interface then says I've got 1
Genre with 1 album!

I can sort things out by deleting the cache and forcing a complete
rescan; but that seems a bit drastic for routine use.

I run SS 6.5.1 and MusicIP 1.7.1 on win XPsp2. SS using MM, and
'blank' music folder setting. I've just signed up to RadioTime.

I don't really know how to debug this, so any advice would be

and at the IP level none of it is even visible.

Sean, wouldn't that also imply that an SB running in bridge mode could
function as a poor man's access point by connecting to a wireless PC in
ad-hoc mode?

network drivers? Or the Windows SlimServer code? Several things could
 come into play.

I doubt very much that it's Windows itself. When I had my files on the
Infrant NAS it wasn't blazing by any means, but copying gigabytes at a
time to and from the NAS was acceptably fast and the bottleneck was
definitely the anemic Infrant device. Windows network file access has
been around for a _long_ time and other programs demostrate perfectly
fine, fast file transfer speeds.

It could be ActiveState's ActivePerl, but again, it's been around a
while and if it were really _that_ slow, someone would probably have
noticed by now.

My bet is that it's something in SlimServer when run on Windows.

2007-01-20 Thread Ramage

I did check my test setup with the wireless access point disabled and
the NSLU slimserver continued to work with the SB3 over the wired xover
cable. When the wireless link was restored, access from the PC to the
NSLU was restored.

I was quite impressed by the functionality, confirmed by Sean.

Great piece of kit.

BTW this was just a test arrangement and not part of my permanent
set-up.

I'll have to think of some way to use this added flexibility.

2007-01-20 Thread Mark Lanctot

Peter;172380 Wrote:
I hope you have now learned to never underestimate a SqueezeBox, Marc!
 ;)

Most definitely. What's interesting about this is that this is above
and beyond what is required. The Squeezebox operating in bridge mode
really doesn't need to check if there are any packets destined for
itself (because 95% of the time, SlimServer will not be on the bridged
side) but the fact that it does is wonderful!

This opens up whole new possibilities as I touched upon in the wiki
now. With a NAS or quiet server in wired range of your Squeezebox and
your router connected wirelessly, you get it all:

- very fast, reliable wired bandwidth for music playback and SlimServer
access

- access to SqueezeNetwork over wireless, which should be fine as there
aren't many/any high-bitrate streams

- access to SlimServer from the rest of your network, both wired and
wireless portions

- the NAS/server will also have Internet access

About the only drawback to this arrangement is if you have another
Squeezebox on the wireless portion because it'll be a 2-hop arrangement
- which isn't a problem for some people though.

I rate iTunes very highly as software, its only serious flaw being a

Maybe my real issue is that I'd be happy to keep all my music in iTunes
except that right now its flac. The Slim server iTunes itegration works
pretty well. Hmm. I will think about a migration from flac to aiff and
use iTunes ot manage music and slim to serve it.

If you like iTunes, look at the J. River Media Center player.

It has an iTunes like UI with much more flexibility. (I have 5 browser
panes in my classical music view scheme and different view schemes for
other kinds of music. MC was the only really satisfactory player
(Windows based) that I found. MC has a built-in secure ripper that
works as well as EAC and great tag editing facilities. If I see
something wrong with a tag while I'm browsing for music, I fix it then.
And MC works fine with Flac. Some people on this forum use MC to edit
tags and then play music with Slimserver/Squeezebox.

The MC program costs $ 40 but it is worth it to me. Your decision
mnight be different.

You aren't the first person to ask for a way to route output from
Itunes or other player programs to the Squeezebox. I think you saw
from this thread that Slimserver/Squeezebox has lots of fans who like
it the way it is and are not sympathetic to suggestions that the system
is lacking. It is a different architecture that might fit you or it
might not.

Exactly. But somehow I don't think it's that odd. The crux of the
setup is that the files are stored on a network file share. I've also
experienced it, and at least one other guy as well. I don't have any
playlists.

To the original poster: What kind of NAS is it?

It would be interesting to put together a test bed and see what the
particulars are. For instance, if the file server is itself running
Windows, is it just as slow? It would also be good to find out exactly
where the slowdown is - is it when pulling files across the network to
analyze headers and tags? Does SS normally need the entire file, or
does it try to pull just the peices it needs?

I've known Safari refuse to recognise localhost. Seems absurd, but it

6.5.1 does require a firmware update. If you forget that for long

Actually the reason you don't see it is that the Squeezebox is connected
to the PC.

Press left and hold for 5 seconds. Go through network setup again,
just press FF to skip everything you entered except when you get to the

Once you've connected to it once, if you go through this again you can

meltsheep, I don’t like the idea of SlimServer either, and only listen
to internet radio. There’s an online service called Oboe that will
store all your music, and can be accessed from any computer. I
recommended to SlimDevices that they partner with this company, so that
our personal music archives, once uploaded to Oboe, are accessible via
the SqueezeBox, like Pandora, without our PC’s running OR the need for
a NAS. That would be the ultimate.

PaulB: you state: “Now I have a central server for the house running
on a Mini-ITX server running Windows 2003 Server. It also runs
Slimserver.”Is the NAS simply a box that is always turned on
sitting next to your regular PC? How are the various devices hooked

Yes it can. In fact you can even connect two Squeezeboxes to each other
in ad-hoc mode with bridging enabled, and thereby bridge two ethernet

The thing it can not do is to be a real access point with more than one

discussions between SD MP3tunes (search the forum for previous
threads). No idea what the current status is. Personally, I don't see
the point of streaming my own collection over the internet when I have
it on a hard disk on my LAN. YMMV, etc.

A NAS is Network Attached Storage. It's a hard drive that connects
anywhere on your network, usually via ethernet cable, although there
are some wireless versions around. A NAS has a processor, RAM, and an
OS (usually linux) so it's really a special purpose computer: low
powered, low power consumption, and oriented towards serving files to
other computers on the network. But some NASs can also run slimserver,
like the Buffalo LinkStation that I use.

If you don't like slimserver on a desktop or notebook comuter then you
won't like it any better on a NAS. But if the issue is not having a PC
on, the NAS is a nice solution. See the SD wiki for more info.

[slim] Re: Mobile/Cell Phone and Squeezebox connection over bluetooth?

2007-01-20 Thread Mark Lanctot

Do you mean from -outside- your network? If so, you need to make
SlimServer accessible from outside, see
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?ConnectingRemotely. It doesn't
cost any more than what your provider charges for general Internet
access.

From inside your network, the Squeezebox doesn't have any Bluetooth
connection. You could either:

- install a Bluetooth access device in your SlimServer PC and access
SlimServer that way. I'm not sure if these devices are
network-accessible - if they are, then this device can be on any
machine on your network, not necessarily the one running SlimServer. I
believe these devices have limited range though.

- if your Squeezebox is wireless, access your router/WAP. Otherwise
plug a WAP into your wired router, or replace your wired router with a
wireless one.

Connecting internally wouldn't cost anything provided the phone has an
802.11b/g connection.
