[Emc-users] disty game to fight .... warming ....

2017-05-22 Thread giorgio foga
I'm not the type of person to do these type of mail ... but I was impressed
when I knew, especially for the possible developments of
this kind of thing (I think of the possible trade of a gaming platform or worse
than that).
I do not know if I'm late to tell this to the users. But it does not matter. I
mean.

I knew there was a game on the social network called Blue Whale ... but I guess
it will soon change its name ...
which drives little boys from 9 to 17 ... naive ... to suicide.
This gic is perverse, play with the fragile psychology of boys who hide in
playing with their parents.
Use their smartphones ...
In Italy a case was found in January ... but another 4 suicide attempts
reported this week.

In Russia 157 suicides documented in 2 years.

Now the game has made victims in England and France from what I understand.

It is also turning in brazil ...

It is a fact that in agile nations among the youngest fashioners it becomes a
petty craze as a transgression
these small cuts in the game are proof of loyalty to the game itself.

I think we all could do something for that.
Starting with more control of our children and grandchildren. Especially those
who are very experienced in programming.

I hope I have been able to express myself in a comprehensible manner and have
been alerted in a useful way.

The research goals is to combine Convolutional Neural Networks for object

So the robot is able to reason about what it sees.

so on and (3) ultrasonic sensors for obstacle detection. This runs on ARM
Cortex M4 and use mbed and RTX
2) Navigation control. Handle "SLAM" algorithm so robot "knows" where it
is on the map. Uses a depth camera (microsoft Kinect) and wheel odometry
and the IMU. This controller is a Raspberry Pi 3 running Ubuntu and ROS.
3) The database, image recognizer and user interface - Also runs
Ubuntu, and ROS but uses a server class multi-core Intel machine with a fast
GPU (used for computation, not display) This computer does not fit on the
mobile platform but connects to the Raspberry Pi via WiFi

Keil RTX is a free (but very professional) implementation of the CMSIS-RTX

gives "Arduino-like" ease of use and better portability. The layer is

I've build RTAI 5.0 for Linux 4.1. Debs here:

deb http://highlab.com/~seb/rtai/5.0-debs/ jessie main
deb-src http://highlab.com/~seb/rtai/5.0-debs/ jessie main

These debs work with linuxcnc, but there's a race condition on module
unload and sometimes it hangs when quitting linuxcnc. I've reproduced
the problem using the RTAI test suite (ie, without any linuxcnc code)
and I've submitted a bug report to rtai.org, but so far no one has found
the bug. Until that bug is fixed we can not ship this kernel, or a
linuxcnc version based on it, to our users.

If you want to try it, you'll have to build linuxcnc from source
yourself. Both 2.7 and master (2.8-pre) should work.

It does 2d and 3d path generation, it's entirely open source, it runs on

So you use these kernel for control a multiple robot but the single robot

Is very interesting these info Actually I control multiple robot using
userspace Qt code and I project to convert my app into Qt-userspace + Qt
RTAI (split my app in 2 different thread) ... with rt-ethernet for sending
controlling messages ... and the mechanism of your system using Keil RTX

I'm a long-tine Linux user, staring in the mid1990's when Linux was
distributed on a set of floppy disks. Before that I remember BSD UNIX and
yes even "Multics".Anyone else remember how the name "Unix" was a an
editorial comment about Multics? That was in the 1980's

I've been a full-time user of Linux-like software going back maybe 15 year
before Linux was written.

I'm using Linux and one other open source Real Time OS ("mbed" a layer over
Keil RTX) in a line of robots. Using my machine tools to build parts for
same.

So yes, I really would like to see a linux based end to end CAD/AM
workflow. It appears the one just barely exists for 3D printing. There
are 3D modelers and drafting tools (Blender and FreeCAD) but the missing
link is g-code generation to drive 3D metal cutting tools.

The current stat of the art with Linux CAM is about where it was with PCB
design before Cern tool over KiCAD. It was possible but not really
practical.

I doubt things will change until some one with loads of cash and no need to
earn money adopts Linux based CAM and pays a full-time staff of engineers
to work on it for a few years.

You definitely can do that last step with PyCAM, but you would need to
be rather patient for 3D milling.

PyCAM does actually feel moderately polished, it is just that the 3D
algorithms were impractically slow last time I tried it.

probably wouldn't want to design a large assembly with FreeCAD quite
yet, but for smaller assemblies and parts of medium complexity, it seems
quite good. Not 100% (make intermediate backups of your work), but
close enough for my needs. I've been intermittently following open
source CAD/CAM tools for many years. I'd say FreeCAD became a usable
tool for most users within the last several months.

The CAM solution isn't quite ready for FreeCAD, although FreeCAM is an
active open source project and work is progressing. I'm eager for
FreeCAM to be a useful tool. FreeCAD can output to a very large number
of file formats. If you already have a CAM tool you like, there's a
good chance FreeCAD can produce a file that your CAM software can input.
PyCAM will input STL files produced by FreeCAD, but I haven't tried
generating G code and milling any parts.

Huge thanks to all of the developers who produce these wonderful
software tools that greatly enhance our lives and our productivity,
whether it's LinuxCNC, FreeCAD, FreeCAM, etc.

As I mentioned in my previous too-long email, Simplify3D is a slicing
program (more of a complete 3D printing CAM program) that runs natively
under Linux. I lean strongly in favor of Free Open Source Software, and
there are very good options as Andy mentioned, but I thought it was
worth paying US$150 for Simplify3D, even though Autodesk apparently
believes that Linux users won't pay for software. So far, I like
Simplify3D very much. It gives me a lot of control over how objects are
3D printed. I can easily set different rules for different layers of
the 3D print, add support structures automatically or manually, etc. It
manages to be very powerful and very easy to use.

Disclaimer: I have no commercial affiliation with Simplify3D. I'm just
a happy customer.

Just one question: Have you been able to make it work? That is, design a
project in FreeCAD that has a few simple parts then produce g-code from
those design files and actually make the part using EMC/Machine kit.

Could you tell us the workflow you use? And can it make full 3D parts on
a four axis mill or is this limited to (say) 2 1/2 D parts?

If there really is a simple workflow that goes from drawings to metal with
linux I'd like to give it a try.Last time I tried to use all open
source tools I was stuck at the point where I have a 3D design but could
not turn that file into g-code. Maybe things have changed now?

Thaks for reply but I know these ...my reference to the fact that you have to
write code to use a cad Linux quite well, is only for some simple types of
routines at the personal and user level. I know how many difficulties it may
involve writing code for the 3d graphics and the kind of work that you are
going to run. My question was a kind of update I had from everyone on current
linux programs that can convert a cad file to gcode format for an FDM printer.
Nothing more. Perhaps the thing about autodesk is accidentally released.

I like free open source software too. In fact I finally switched from
Eagle to Kicad for schematics and PCB design, IN the past Eagle worked
and Kicad as a development process. Kicad caught up because CERN (the
physics lab in Europe) adopted and funded Kicad.

But open source CAD/CAM is just not there yet. You simply can not draw a
part and then send it to a four axis milling machine using open source
software. When that is possible I'll do it.

Yes Autodesk will ask you to pay a for Fusion. It is not free for everyone
so you don't have to be suspicious of them charging for it one day. They
are already asking for money. But it's free for hobby, student and small
startups. They have a sustainable business model, charge a subscription to
those who can afford it and don't bother asking for money from those who
don't have money.

What FreeCAD needs is someone to adopt it like KiCad, someone with a few
million dollars to spend.

Has anyone put a printhead on a std moving table milling machine, and

The printhead seems like the lessor of two aspects, as a heated bed that

Autodesk Fusion is 3D CAD software for making 3D designs. It will also
"slice" those models and output the g-code that will drive a 3D printer
layer by layer. Fusion can also produce g-codes for driving a mill or
lathe. That is one of Fusion's best features: It is an end-to-end system
where yo use the same software for concept renderings as for manufacturing
by either subtractive of advice process. You can 3D print a prototype
then later mill the same part.

Fusion is free for hobby use, students and any small-time shop who make
less than $50K per year with the software. If you are selling more than
$50K they want a paid up license.

There is other free software but it tends to be the work of one of a couple
people. Fusion is suported by an industry heavyweight

What I don't know is if Fusion will slice an STL file that it did not
create. Can it slice an imported one?

Re: [Emc-users] c++ control Lcnc ... old piece of code

2017-05-13 Thread giorgio foga
Sorry but in that time I still did not know the Lcnc project so well ... so did
not even the mailing list ... just now that you Andy on the forum advised me to
arrange me to fix a problem I was up and I still have with halcompile I got
under studying a Yes ... because I saw that it is not possible to correct that
"problem" for good without knowing at least some of the Lcnc files.

So the question now can be transformed into this: now how now what should you
do to sniff the Lcnc (user warning and error) signals in a c ++ file? What are
the files to put in the header of this program? And what structures to use?

I hope all can forgive me bad english.

Dear Gene,

no worry ... yesterday night I see the Kurt messages very nice and it

That is one of the more famous lines from the original Star Trek tv
series. So old, I think the reruns are still in black & white. Early
1960's stuff. Actually, I think the line was "He's dead, Jim", said in
a flat monotone voice, but its been modified in common usage rather like
back fence gossip.

We know it well on this side of the pond, and I keep forgetting this list
goes anyplace you can get an internet connection. My bad and fading
memory at play.

Oggetto: [Emc-users] Installing On Older Computer

Is there a trick to installing Linuxcnc/Wheezy on an older single core computer?

I have a machine that has been happily running Linuxcnc for some time on an
older Linuxcnc Ubuntu 10,04 install.
It is an older P4 2.8gHz cpu (single core) with 1G memory and works reasonably
well with Lucid. This PC is a little bit special in that it has some ISA slots
on the motherboard and 1 ISA card is used by Linuxcnc to interface with the
machine.

I have tried several times to test or install the newer Linuxcnc/Wheezy iso.
But it boots and runs painfully slow, and neither the latency tests or Linuxcnc
will open. Trying to start Linuxcnc from the command line tells me nothing.

Any ideas why this machine refuses to work with the newer version?

other linux distro that support rt patch because ubuntu policy licensing
is a bit hard to use (You must recompile the SO leaving all ubuntu brand refer
and program that use ubuntu brand in header).

Well, in the end I think I'll use a qt interface on windows if things get
complicated further with the gnu licenses.I also have a motherboard naked
inside a box with its power supply for desk tests but here all my pcs are
ubuntu ... i never used to mac ... the fact that here from We cost a bang has a
lot to do with this choice . if i could also i would buy cars and
electronics in america ... i would save at least 50%. Talking apart I was
referring to the talk of licenses and the fact that in any case I have to deal
with a lot more familiarity with debian ... for example I could start right
from networkmanager and egalax driver.

Many thanks

Giorgio

Not necessarily. I do all my LinuxCNC work sat in front of an iMac. I
have a bare motherboard on the bookshelf to check out hardware/rtai
stuff, but I use a variety of remote-mounted file systems, VMs and
X-forwarding to the Mac screen for the coding.

Yes, it shows up as an Egalaxy touch, there are actually 2 Egalaxy touch
devices listed. I am on Debian so things are slightly different, previously
on Ubuntu I could use the drivers and calibration software provided with
the screens but they wont work on Debian.
As I mentioned, I got it to work but the calibration is not that each time
the same, I can see after a reboot that it has changed a little and after
several reboots it changes again a little but never enough to have to
recalibrate. It stays within the acceptable and usable range.

Its working thanks to all your help and that's all that matters to me now,
on the real problems now like a coffee maker that blows the fuse when wakes
up from stand-by.

The problem that prevented us from shipping RTAI 5.0-test2 on Linux 4.1
for Debian Jessie still exists in the RTAI code.

The RTAI developers are aware of it but no fix has been found as of 2017
April 12.

I'm not currently working on fixing this problem.

Anyone who is interested in this platform is welcome to help in
debugging it.

Oggetto: Re: [Emc-users] touch screen calibration assistance please

Thanks everybody for hanging in there with me trying to figure this thing
out.

I ended up with calibration values as follows:
Option "Calibration""2025 27 125 1950" in the 99-calibration.conf

This gets my touch point within 1mm of where I actually touch the screen
with a stylus. I also can get to the edges of the screen on all sides and
all axis are in the correct direction.

Not sure if this is a multi-touch screen, it actually came as a Windows
Industrial PC where the PC is build into the screen and forms one unit. I
can drag on the screen and actually select files like that, it forms a
'box' around the files when I drag diagonally over the screen. Touch
response is good also, single click and double click work fine and can be
tweaked also.

Works fine with Gomoccapy in full screen.

On to the next challenge.

Thanks everybody for your help and patience.

No problem ... but not shure that ubuntu 10.04 can receive the new master

has ever even confirmed the possibility that installing a new JA14 linuxcnc on
ubuntu 10.04 can run smoothly.

If you can confirm that: no problem with ubuntu 10.04 + JA14 ... for shure can
upgrade.

In any case I would like to have some indication to start moving a few steps in
the linuxcnc files to test for the momnet, so as to get familiar with the
structure of the program so have some indication where can see in linuxcnc

My advise is still the same: JA9 is very old, and many bugs have been
fixed since then. Upgrade your machine to a newer version of the master
branch and try again. If the bug is still there we'll try to fix it.

What exact version of LinuxCNC are you using?

Is this the old ja14 system you mentioned in another thread? If so, and
if an upgrade from ja14 to the current master branch
(v2.8.0-pre1-2975-gc0778d66cf or there abouts) doesn't fix this issue,

Ciao Valerio,

It is a new machine or used? Because actually the emergency law (uni -
direttiva macchine) talk about 4 level of emergency ... in one of these levels
we talk specifically about enable. In any case by the law yuo're making a new
machinery, did you know that? In UE retrofit understood as the mean in other

These only for your info ... in real world many system integrators not very

restrictive. unfortunately the risk becomes all of those who break the law. Not
worth it.

Ciao Giorgio,
my other machine was actually sold to me without the enable pin in the
safety chain.

Hello,
I am looking at the 7i76 manual and at the TB2 connector pinout (page
5), it is evident where to connect the step and dir wires, it is less
evident where to connect the enable+ and enable- wires for each motor
driver.

What is the usual setup ?

You probably don't need to upgrade the OS to Ubuntu 16.04 or Debian 7 or
8, but you should definitely upgrade LinuxCNC to the latest master
(2.8-pre release). Many, many JA-related bugs have been fixed since ja14.

Hi Giorgio, I don't totally understand what you're reporting, but I
think maybe you're running into a problem with different units being
used in different places.

The .ini file file has [TRAJ]MAX_VELOCITY, [AXIS_*]MAX_VELOCITY and
[JOINT_*]MAX_VELOCITY in machine units (mm in your case) per second:

http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/config/ini-config.html#_traj_section
INI Configuration -
LinuxCNC<http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/config/ini-config.html#_traj_section>
linuxcnc.org
A comment line is started with a ; or a # mark. When the ini reader sees either
of these marks at the start a line, the rest of the line is ignored by the
software.

http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/config/ini-config.html#_axis__lt_letter_gt_section
INI Configuration -
LinuxCNC<http://linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/config/ini-config.html#_axis__lt_letter_gt_section>
linuxcnc.org
A comment line is started with a ; or a # mark. When the ini reader sees either
of these marks at the start a line, the rest of the line is ignored by the
software.

But the Axis GUI presents Max Velocity in machine units per minute.

I just ran this test:

I started the sim/axis/axis_mm.ini config, and saw that Axis shows a max
velocity of 3200 mm/min. This corresponds to the .ini file's
[TRAJ]MAX_LINEAR_VELOCITY of 53.34 mm/s.

I then used halcmd to poke at halui. I first saw that
halui.max-velocity.value was 53.3 (mm/s), roughly as expected. I
set halui.max-velocity.scale to 0.1 (mm/s) and then
halui.max-velocity.decrease to 1. That made halui.max-velocity.value
change to 53.2 mm/s, and the Axis Max Velocity slider changed to
3193.9 mm/min, which is also right.

I also tested with halui.max-velocity.scale set to 10 mm/s and 100 mm/s,
and both worked as expected.

I also tried on an inch machine with both linear and rotary axes, and
while there's only controls for max linear velocity, that config worked
as expected too.

Re: [Emc-users] halui.max-velocity ...

2017-04-11 Thread giorgio foga
Very thanks,

I just setting the [TRAJ] and [AXIS] and [JOINT] section with the right unit
per second and axis gui work as I aspect ... ... everything works well in
axis gui, max-value is shown as I expect. The problem is only when I want to
use the commands halui.max-velocity.scale / increase / decrease at this
point the value immediately goes to 60.0 ... and then if I use increase /
decrease change correctly but never beyond the 60.0 at this point i try to
move the slider axis gui and everything returns to be shown properly. I used
google translate in hopes of being lighter. [] any how I control again
my setting.

For debian jessy there is a specific repo for other no there isn't yet ...
you can only try to install from sources .

and first install you oun rtai kernel ... but many recommend to do everything

Actually I install over ubuntu 14.04 rt4.5 + patch ... mesa card + servo system
works fine ... but in my case

is not possible install a userspace component :(... instead realtime comp
works fine... :)

Someone I've install with success on ubuntu 16.04 so if you would try these

Is there a working updated rtai kernel for say linuxmint 18, ubuntu 16,

I remember i could run linux mint 17.3 with a 3.4-9 pae build, but that
is broken as well with the latest updates.
The package is still there in the linux repository tho but i only get
kernel panics when trying to boot that rtai build.

Was working great before tho..

Have you tried:

$ locate halcompile

That should show the path to it, if it's installed, and the machine has
been rebooted since installation, or:

$ sudo updatedb

has been run instead. (No need to do both.) Then:

$ echo $PATH

will show whether your shell knows the way there, and if it doesn't you
can add it in .bashrc, or better yet, .profile, if you're using bash.

Yes --- but there is no guarantee that the environment
is set as required.

If you
  1) have a run-in-place build
  2) source the rip-environment script in a shell
  3) then run linuxcnc (with no args) from that shell
(or any shell with the required rip-enviroment
  settings)
then the config picker will create a desktop icon.

For example, with a RIP build root directory named
'/home/git/linuxcnc-dev', the desktop file created
(for the axis sim example) will be:

$ cat ~/Desktop/axis.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Name=LinuxCNC-sim-axis
Exec=/home/git/linuxcnc-dev/scripts/linuxcnc
'/home/git/linuxcnc-dev/configs/sim/axis/axis.ini'
Type=Application
Comment=
Icon=linuxcncicon

However, startup using this icon does not source the
required rip-environment script. If you have a deb install
in addition to a RIP build, this might or might not work
depending upon the version-similarity of the two
configurations.

Knowledgeable linux users (using bash by default) could use
~/.profile or ~.bashrc to set the appropriate run-in-place
environment but there is a great potential for problems if
you have both a deb install and a run-in-place build on the
same machine.

The safest means to run a hand-built LinuxCNC without the
need for separately setting up the environment is to make
and install a deb as documented:

Might be easier depending on what you are trying to do.. launch the config
picker, select the config you want and then check the 'create short cut on
desktop' or whatever the check box says on the config picker.

Then the shortcut launches linuxcnc normally

There is an easy way, but it is (apparently) not recommended because
it makes uninstall and updates difficult.

There is an extra switch for ./configure:
./configure --with-realtime=upace --prefix=/usr

That will put all the files in the "normal" place rather than the
run-in-place directory.

I would suggest waiting a while to see if anyone can say what the
"approved" way is. Though the chaps in the US are likely to be
distracted by Thanksgiving this weekend, I think.

2016-05-11 Thread giorgio foga
I try to run halui interfaces with no gui and at same time loadusr my.comp
if i use axis gui all works fine but without gui my.comp or hali not works

with axis gui I put all in custom_postgui

whithout gui I try to put all or in my.hal or in custom.hal ... I try to use
twopass on in ini file but the result are or duplicate component halui or
pin.halui not exist sems that Lcnc not load at all halui interfaces
without gui

There are some trick to make these possible?? (starting my.comp and halui
without gui interfaces??)

Re: [Emc-users] Appropriate PCs

2016-05-11 Thread giorgio foga
Sorry for delay really in my personal experience (only 6 j1800) i've try
the trik of install generic vga card and disable driver matherborad but I
think the problem is not only the driver card my j1800 are without cooling
fan in one of these I mount cooling fun with better performance and and
lower real time problems Actually I use with better success i3 cpu .
(I use different model and brand)

For shure I use some industrial pc case (VIP industrial constructor) with j1800
and atom processor with real better performance and stability than generic
motherboard (like asus, gigabite and other )..
I got the idea that the problem is a set of items, such as drive devices
mounted on the motherboard, the power supply of the devices and the motherboard
power supply and of course the quality of the input voltage. ... All these
problems on industrial boards are taken into account more seriously than the
cards for pc desk.

but I'm not an expert ... mine is just an opinion

[Emc-users] Lcnc 2.7 DISPLAY = halui is not a valid option?

2016-05-06 Thread giorgio foga
I use for some period linuxcncrsh but isn't the best solution for me .
so I try to use DISPLAY = halui in ini file in order to have my LinuxCNC
working machine without any user interface

but obtaion only duplicate component name error . so I comment out in
[HALUI]
#HALUI = halui ... but at these point Lcnc not see halui pin at all and
terminate with . halui.machine.on pin doesnt exist error

Is not possible to set DISPLAY = halui?? . there are some other option
display? (example delete entyre [DISPLAY] section??)

2016-05-06 Thread giorgio foga
@andyPugh no ... no missing delete for first I have delete all modbus
folder THAN i have install libmodbus3.1.2 ...

the magic solution I gave from Your discussion with ArkEye in some
discussion point you linking in the post the halcompile parser file I read
it!!

There are 2 option for linking library not only one as I read from the html doc
. I choose the secondone and all works like a charm!!!

so even if you have not helped me today I have to thank you for the help you
provided in the past ;)

@ andypug: row 34 & 35 of modbus-rtu.h "#define MODBUS_RTU_RS232 0 #define
MODBUS_RTU_RS485 1" nothing to do with my file.

Now I try to re-install libbmodbus 3.1.2 the error menthioned abose is
disappear but now I have a "undefined reference to . " every macros
used by *ctx .

At these point I think is a version / linking library.

No but is no so difficult. Mxxx code with bash code to read a specific
mybarcodefile.txt file ... after everery reading cancell all
Read barcode with terminal bash routine and writing the output on
mybarcodefile.txt ... More automation is possible ... for example using a db or
file that convert every know barcode in a specific decimal number (0, 1,
2, 3 ...) your mxxx code in bash can read these number end convert it in
int value of switch case statement . you build a program that have only
switch case statement every case correspond to soubroutine call .

[Emc-users] @ d garret teleop jog solution work for me.

2015-11-19 Thread giorgio foga
I use the delta robot modifyed kins no possibility to have external jog
wheel in world mode . ok so i think from kinematics to overwrite the value
of selected world axis + encoder value (on certain condition: is-teleop
is-manual is-on is-enable no-limits) directly from kinematics to pos.N the
best way to do this?
Actually simply in foward kins add the value in this way emecpos = tran.N +
encoder-value . but when go out to teleop or jog mode the axis jump to
original tran.N so I would overwrite actual tran.N adding delta.encoder-value
(encoder-value.time0 - encoder-value.time1).

Is possible to do? Is possible to do in other way? (i'm not an expert around
list . ask your suggest)...

in me case the machine (delta robot) have hardware limit directly on servo
. no possibility of crash!!

giorgio
