Re: [Felvtalk] VooDoo is missing
Give Woodoo some time to get over being scared. Hunger and need for your companship may bring him home to you. I once had a cat that stayed away for 6 days. Then she showed up at the door demanding to be let in as tho it was my fault she was outside. Melinda Kerr msk...@me.com wrote: Well, around midnight I heard my other cat meow and looked outside. There was a big yellow cat that I have seen hanging around a black cat. And, low and behold there was the black cat too! However, if it was my VooDoo, he didn't touch the food I left around front. Tonight I will try leaving the food in a more obvious place. At least if it is him, he won't be hungry! As for trapping, I am a bit at a disadvantage. We have a Japanese hardware store in town, but I don't know if they have traps. Since I don't speak or read Japanese, it may be difficult to find. Our base police often put out traps to catch the strays. The problem is if I ask them to help, I might be committing another kitty to a death sentence. On base they put them to sleep after 72 hours. We don't have any kind of local rescue at this time. I got some information from another base and want to see if I can start some kind of foster/rescue program. There are strays here and there around the base. Also, (I know you will all gasp) people move back to the states and actually leave their babies! So, at this point, I hate to ask for traps to be put out. Although, after another day or two his wellbeing will be my first priority. Thanks again for all of your suggestions! Re: [Felvtalk] VooDoo is missing
Ask the base police if you can borrow one trap for your cat and learn how to use it. This is a better option then the base police trying to trap cats for two reasons (1) they don't know your cat like you do so you can set up the trap with food you cat likes and smells of home (perhaps paper towel with your scent on it) and it can be near your door - this will result in better success of trapping your cat (2) this avoids the base police setting out traps for other cats. [Felvtalk] VooDoo's Home
OK, so who says miracles and divine intervention do not exist? After a couple of hours in the very hot sun, I found evidence that maybe VooDoo was alive and close by. Then, I discovered that the police now have a NO trapping policy. I went to my Japanese vet to see if he could find a trap. He was going to call the city on Monday. So, back to being a little stressed, feeling as though my best hope was gone. A couple of hours later, a very short, but really hard rain came and I was once again concerned because I thought he was hiding in a drain pipe. As soon as the rain ended, I went to the back door and called out asking him to come home. What do you know, he answered me with his crazy, whiny cry. After a few minutes of trying to coax him into the house, I decided that he was either trapped or hurt. I called to him and he continued to call back. Once I located him hiding under a tree, I belly crawled on the wet ground to where he was. I reached under, in the dark, expecting the worst. However, he let me grab him and pull him out. So, 48 hours after going missing, my baby is home safe and sound. We will be watching closely for sniffles and signs of fever! Thank you all for your advice and positive vibes. That's wonderful news; you must have had a huge sigh of relief! Make a big sign, telling anyone who enters your home to never leave the door open, under penalty of death or worse. That's what I did when we had construction on the house...but did they even bother reading my BIG sign? I was on pins and needles, constantly following them as they went in and out, shutting doors after them. [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
The clinic called with an update. Not sure it is good news, but he made it through the night. He is still not able to use his hind legs. He did not eat this moring but they said there was some interest, Moslty he lays on his left side and has a head tilt. Any one here with experience with this sort of problem? I am wondering how he will be once he is home. If there is going to be no improvement that would not be good. The Vet should be calling later any feedback would be a great help. Re: [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
Here are vibes for your baby. I don't have any specifics but I do know that depending on the cause, this kind of condition MAY be survivable and even reversible. The thing is that there are quite a few things that can cause this -- an inflammation, a stroke, a tumor pressing, etc. etc., and each has its own survival/recovery rate. I've recently heard of a kitty regaining much of her function after looking really dire at the vet's. So I guess cautious optimism is the key here. Here's hoping! Hang in there, Bitty! Re: [Felvtalk] Bitty
I was just thinking, could Bitty possibly have a blood clot where the veins go into each hind leg? Not being able to move, crying sounds very much what I have experienced several times. All except once, was the cat euthanized. Why? Because I took the cats to an emergency clinic (evenings, weekends). The last cat that had a blood clot, was taken to our vet who treated the clot to dissolve - the cat, Corgi, has a limp in one of the hind legs as a result. Some cats are in pain from such a blood clot, others are not. Corgi was a feral cat - I found him one morning not being able to move, trying to get away with his front legs. I cornered him, threw a towel over him and the rest is history. Because I head to treat him, he is the sweetest cat, all the cats absolutely love him, snuggle with him, almost consider him their parent.he washes them all and they reciprocate. -Original Message- From: felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org [mailto:felvtalk-boun...@felineleukemia.org] On Behalf Of Sara Kasteleyn Sent: Saturday, June 25, 2011 9:58 AM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: [Felvtalk] Bitty SallyI am so sorry to hear about Bitty. Sally, My Pebbles was very disfigured when she had her stroke two years ago from today :( My vet also stated she was not in any pain, but she said she could live with it, it just would not be a good life. Her front legs were going two different directions and her head remained turned. She would never straighten out, therefore, she was unable to walk. With her age of 17 1/2, and had diabetes most of her life along with CRF, and thyroid issues, I chose to put her to rest. You will need to decide what is best for Little Bitty after your vet discusses the options with you. I'm sure you will make the right decision. I wish I could have told you that my experience with my kitty had a better outcome. Sending positive thoughts your way! Re: [Felvtalk] Ittle Bitty
After you talk with the vet you will make the right decision. One data point is a kitten we rescued a few years ago had the dry form of FIP but was so alert and alive we decide to treat her symptoms till it no longer made sense. Towards the end she lost the use of her back legs and would drag herself around - which sounds pathetic but only if you never met her ... she was all kitten in her heart and would joyfully play and have fun. We kept her to a confined area and cleaned up after her several times a day. Towards the end everyday we asked ourselves if she was having more joy than discomfort. Of course finally we had to let her go. Your love for IttyBitty will guide you to the right decision. Re: [Felvtalk] Cali - 7 month old kitten - Update
Hi Everyone: I took Cali to Dr. Wright here in Dallas as Lakewood Vet Hospital. He is very compassionate and took a lot of time trying to explain what was going on. He agreed that it was highly unlikely that Sasha would get the virus since Cali had probably had the virus from birth and they have always been indoors. Sasha has been vaccinated and she also tested negative on Monday of this week. He is doing a IFA test to be sure of Cali's situation. He drew blood on Wednesday, but then his office called yesterday and said that I needed to bring Cali back in because the lab (or someone) messed up the test, and it had to be redone. So I still don't know the results. He wanted to start her on 1cc of Interferon Alpha 2B (1X a day for 7 days and then 1 time a week for thereafter). She ate really well yesterday all day long but is still really tired and basically wanted to eat, drink water, and sleep. Last night, before I started the Interferon, she started breathing with short, fast, breaths. She was still eating and drinking well, just seemed to be breathing more abruptly than normal. I went ahead and started her on the medication, but now this morning, she doesn't really want to eat and isn't drinking much water. She is still breathing kind of hard. I called the Vet and told them I wasn't going to bring her in to draw more blood today because she seemed nauseaed and she has been at a vet almost every day this week. They tell you not to stress a cat the is FeLV+ and then you need to take them to a stressful environment everyday. I don't understand. I told them they would have to draw the blood on Monday morning. I guess my question is, can the Interferon give them nausea? She hasn't thrown up, but she smacks her lips together, which I think is a sign that she has an upset stomach. The Vet said that I needed to be concerned about her not eating, but she was eating before I gave her the Interferon. It's just last night her breathing changed to quick short breaths, before I started the medication, so I don't know if that is something I should be more concerned about more than the not eating, or what. Too many things are changing, and I don't know what to do first. Please give me some input. Re: [Felvtalk] Cali - 7 month old kitten - Update
I could be way out there, but worry if she could have a fluid accumulation in the chest impacting her breathing. An X-ray or ultrasound would probably be needed to determine that. I am very sorry for what you and little Cali are going through, I know it is both painful and frustrating...and as you said, very stressful. I hope you will have answers soon, I am not experienced with interferon but hopefully others will have some input. Re: [Felvtalk] Cali - 7 month old kitten - Update
My Dexter has been on interferon since October and the only effect I've ever noticed is that on the weeks he is on it, he is ever so slightly less energetic. I've never seen him act nauseated because of it. In Cali's situation, there are so many things that could be impacting her breathing and the nausea. Perhaps the smacking of the lips is an indication that she doesn't like the salty taste of the interferon? If possible, try to avoid getting it on her tongue and aim for the roof of her mouth or cheek. The interferon needs to get to her tonsils for absorption - either way, I'm sure she'll grow accustomed to taking it - Dexter has gotten to the point where he gets on the kitchen counter at the same time every day to take his dose - I think these kitties are able to put together that the bad tasting stuff makes them feel better. As far as the rapid breathing is concerned, Dexter is having that problem now, actually... It's more than likely him experiencing stress from being to the vet 4 times this week, but any stress can cause it. Cali needs a safe spot where she can stay cool and keep from allowing any stress in your house (loud noises, the other kitty) to scare her. She should calm down and begin breathing more easily once she is relaxed. We started Dex on the lymphocyte t-cell immunomodulator yesterday. He's been taking immunoregulin for a week as well, though the doc recommended that we not give it to him yesterday as the iV injection was seriously stressing him. Today, I'm regretting not having given it to him as he is more lethargic than he has been all week and he looks as though he feels terrible. Dex had managed not to lose any weight during the last few weeks and had started showing signs that his red cell count was improving. Not the case today. He will be getting dose two of LTCI on Monday - I'm hoping he starts showing some better signs this weekend. You should definitely have her chest X-rayed. Her symptoms sound a bit like my Fuji's. She has mediastinal lymphoma. With treatment, she is still very healthy almost year after being diagnosed! On the other hand, when VooDoo had a couple of bouts with the panting like breaths. I panicked, thinking, OH no, not again. He had a bit of fluid on his lungs. The doctor gave him antibiotics and cleared it right up! No cancer there. Keep pressing forward because you wi find your answers! My greatest concern is that around 2:00am, he tried to come home and we absolutely scared him to death trying to get him to bring him inside. (He hasn't been out since he came to us as a five week old kitten) I'm worried that he might be afraid to come home. __**_ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/**mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_** felineleukemia.orghttp://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org __**_ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/**mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_** felineleukemia.orghttp://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org __**_ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/**mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_** felineleukemia.orghttp://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

Eukanaba MaxCat would be even better. It has way more calories than A/D. On 6/25/2011 10:02 PM, Lynda Wilson wrote: You're doing a great job! Hang in there!! He tested neg got vacinated once after. Last exposure was in 2008 when Junior passed away. I do not think he is positive, but there is that chance. He also has one eye dilated more than the other. He does seem aware. I got abourt half the baby food in him. I may try more before bedtime. He wet himself in the carrier and will not be able to use a litterbox right now. I hope he will stay on the towels he climbed out of a box, so I gave up that on idea. The other cats have left him alone. He was the alpha kitty and like to chnce them.
