I'd leave it as is as well. The only way you could even come close to
pleasing more of these people is one you've already tried and it didn't work
out very well. I refer of course to your attempt to run the game via Sapi
itself so people could choose any of the voices installed on their own
computers. I'm sure we both remember how well that worked out what with all
the problems people seemed to be having with their Sapi installs.

Hi Bryan,
Well, the reason Heather speaks so well in the game is I messed with some
of the words a while until it spoke them correctly. It wasn't many words
but there were a few like centaur I had to work with spelling it different
ways, until Heather finally said it more or less correctly.
As for it speaking a little fast obviously that is just how I recorded it.
I felt it was too slow in previous versions and spead up the voice rate
some. Now, of course, I get some complaints that some people think it is
too fast. Personally, I like it as is, and have no intentions of changing
it now.

Hi Bryan,
Sure. That's understandable. Heather and Lucy are pretty nice voices, but
they do make several mistakes when speaking words. Right off the top of my
head I know Heather can't say "enterprise" worth a darn. That's a very
common word, plus the most popular fictional spaceship in history, and it
can't say it correctly. I know several other Star Trek words like Klingon,
phaser, and so on it doesn't come close to saying correctly. It drives me
crazy, because Dectalk Access, Eloquence, and a few other TTS voices I
have don't have a problem with any of those words. So even if I had the
Infovox version of those voices I'm pretty sure they would drive me nuts
after a while do to the mistakes. Then again all TTS voices do make
mistakes, because the English language is notorious for breaking its own
language rules.
For example, most of the time most TTS voices can't determine when a word
uses a soft c or a hard c sound. So when you get a word like Celtic it
says it with a soft c sound like Seltic instead of a hard c sound like
Keltic. I often find myself making ample use of the Window Eyes and Jaws
exception dictionaries correcting common mistakes like that.

Hi Bryan,
Yeah, Crystal works out well for Sci-Fi games. Back when I began working
on STFC 1.0 I initially used AT&T Crystal as the voice of the
Enterprise's computer. Later I switched voices until I ended up using
Scansoft Karen for version 1.2. Anyway, to make a long story short I've
had several requests to go back to using AT&T Crystal for STFC 2.0, and
I may just do that. She was fine for that particular game, but not
necessarily great for every game.

Hi Bryan,
Yeah, it does. Either I didn't see it way back when or I just assumed the
voices would work with everything and didn't bother checking the specifics
about that version. Either way it doesn't much matter now since i own

Re: [Audyssey] Heather Voice in Mota Beta 8

2009-10-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Bryan,
Yeah, it does. Either I didn't see it way back when or I just assumed
the voices would work with everything and didn't bother checking the
specifics about that version. Either way it doesn't much matter now
since i own them, and am fairly happy with them. I don't realy have the
cash to purchase the Infovox versions that are fully Sapi 5 compliant.

2009-10-24 Thread Thomas Ward

Hi Phil,
Interesting. I actually got my copies of Ryan and Heather for $15 each
for a special promotional. I also got Lucy for less than $35 as well.
Looks like I made out like a bandit. Lol!
Yeah, my copies are locked to Text Aloud, but that isn't too bad really.
I can still use them for converting audio books to audio, create voice
files for games, which was primarily why I got them in the first place.
I generally use Dectalk Access or Eloquence for day to day computer
operations anyway.

Phil Vlasak wrote:

Hi,
You can buy Heather for $35 which works with only the next up software.

NOTE: These voices are for use with TextAloud and other NextUp.com

Hi Bryan,
Hmmm...If I remember correctly when the uac prompt comes up all you have
to do is press alt+a to tel it to run the Window Eyes setup under Vista.
I was also quite surprised by that prompt when I purchased and installed
Vista for the first time. Anyway, so far Windows 7 has been a much
smoother and better end user experience.

Yes, AT&T Crystal does come with Text Aloud, I have it, but it isn't one

[Audyssey] Draconis games under 64 bit

Hello all,
I installed Windows 7 Home Premium X64 yesterday, and discovered that the
Draconis games at least installed without issues on this platform. So they
should also work under this platform too.

Thought I'd let you know.

Am trying to use the note pad in ce but not having that much success if
I'm

completely honest.

I've renamed tab1 to trade for the trade office. Now every time I find 1
I'm
trying to input that information. When ever I do I click save then it
gives

me the continue button so I click that. Then I come back to the tab view.
What I've last written sits in the edit field. But when I go and put
something else in I can't see the previous entry. Any thoughts?

You need to have got extra fuel tickits to use the fuel depo, which you

can get either from winning competitions or the dayly draw or bought from
the Ce store.

Also, a premium account will give you an extra two units of fuel per 15
minutes on top of what your engine puts out.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

[Audyssey] lonewolf sound pack

2009-10-24 Thread shaun everiss
Hi.
I got quite bored a couple days ago.
So I created this soundpack for lw based on thesilent hunter 4 system.
I have not got the torps noise quite right, my plan is to have quieter engines,
and maybe a radar system.
Most other stuff sounds good.
I plum forgot about this and then whilst on a last minute chat with pkb on the
test group I was asked to post it.
so here it is on sendspace make what additions you want, this is a free pack,
when I get destroyer command I may put this in here.
I eventually want to upgrade lw at least in sound to today's subs.
or at least try.
I never expected someone to want this.
this is like an early early alpha, or something, since I didn't even think
anyone would want this this is like the first version.
get it while its hot.
Should stay on sendspace for a bit.
if you are in pkb you should have the file already if not you should get that.
I will try to russle up the rest of the stuff I need in the next month or so.
Hopefully I can get something going, actually I have other weird ideas on
themes, will put those together at some point.
