2010-06-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Hayden,
H...That certainly would be interesting. i know for a fact several
Atari classics like Packman etc have been created as online web games,
but I don't know that the technology is there to make them fully
accessible as you don't have access to things like OpenAL, DirectX,
etc so can not take advantage of higher end audio support, etc that I
know of. Online gaming in its own way is still in the developmental
stage, and aside from a few games from Blind Adrenaline,
Audiogames.net, and All in Play accessible online games are still very
muchexperimental itself. It would be interesting if someone could
create a Packman Talks or something like it for the web. Although, my
own knoledge of something like Flash and Shockwave is pretty little. I
know Java pretty well, but as I mentioned before I know the developer
would need something more complex than the java.applet.AudioClip class
for rendering something like 3d audio and so on.

Re: [Audyssey] Advice on implamenting accessibilityintoavisual/graphical game?

2010-06-29 Thread AudioGames
Hi Steve,

This issue may be related to a Shockwave popup screen (which I think was added
by Macromedia after we launched Sudo-San) in which
you have to allow the game to access a script on our website.

Can you try this:

1. make sure you've installed the latest version of the Shockwave plugin in
your copy of Internet Explorer
2. leave your screenreader ON
3. go to http://gluid.com/games/sudosan/play.php (direct link to the webpage
with the game) in Internet Explorer (not FF - somehow
our auto-focus script doesn't seem to work anymore in the latest FF version!)
4. the game loads and after a while you should hear the intro. Then a pop-up
will open (which should be accessible via your
screenreader). It asks you for certain permissions with three tickboxes. Tick
the one with do not ask again and click the button
allow. This makes sure that the popup will not popup every time.
5. turn OFF your screenreader
6. press F5 to reload the webpage
7. the game should now reload and start without the pop-up. If all is well you
should now be able to control the game via the
keyboard

Please make sure to read the documentation on
http://www.audiogames.net/sudosan/ and also check out the Sudo-San forum:
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewforum.php?id=17 . This posts also deals with
some accessibility issues:
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=488

Please let us know if you get Sudo-San to work!

[Audyssey] Looking for some usb gamepad advice.

2010-06-29 Thread The Kolesar Brothers
I wrote this letter about a week ago with no feedback.
Could someone please read the letter below and write me back.
Now here's the letter.
Hi to all,
I'm thinking of up dating my philips 2909.
Someone recommended a ps3 usb gamepad.
Just was wondering if anyone from the list has one and if so, what they
think of it?
Also was looking for a layout of all of the buttons and their features and
if it has one stick or two. Also, if at all possible, a txt copy of the
manual would be nice as well.
I'm looking for something that has force feedback of course.
Then must work with the three flight simulators.
Jim Kitchen's puppy one, BPC Programs tdv and let's see if we can't get it
to work with fsx and IYP.
The jurrey is still out on fsx and IYP.
Would like it to work with aliens in the outback. Then from bsc games
classic pipe, hunter, troopanum and especially blast chamber.
The philips 2909 works greatwith puppy one and tdv, but I can't get it to
work with blast chamber and it's tricky to get it to work with the other
above mentioned games.
So was looking for some advice to up grade.
Someone told me that it does work with blast chamber. I think the problem I
was having with the philips 2909 and blast chamber is that I couldn't twist
off the valves. I couldn't even get through the practice round with the usb
handheld and that's bad enough. SMILES.
So thanks to all in advance.
Ron who would like to untie himself from the keyboard when ever possible.

Have a good day,
From the Kolesar brothers and our puppies

Hi Steve,

This issue may be related to a Shockwave popup screen (which I think was

you have to allow the game to access a script on our website.

Can you try this:

1. make sure you've installed the latest version of the Shockwave plugin
in your copy of Internet Explorer

2. leave your screenreader ON
3. go to http://gluid.com/games/sudosan/play.php (direct link to the
webpage with the game) in Internet Explorer (not FF - somehow
our auto-focus script doesn't seem to work anymore in the latest FF
version!)
4. the game loads and after a while you should hear the intro. Then a
pop-up will open (which should be accessible via your
screenreader). It asks you for certain permissions with three tickboxes.
Tick the one with do not ask again and click the button

allow. This makes sure that the popup will not popup every time.
5. turn OFF your screenreader
6. press F5 to reload the webpage
7. the game should now reload and start without the pop-up. If all is well
you should now be able to control the game via the

keyboard

Hi William,
That really wouldn't work for Mysteries of the Ancients since it takes
place in Greace. Scorpions live in hot dry desert regions like Egypt,
the south-western united states, Iraq, and places like that. I don't
beleave Greace has any scorpions because they have a more mild climent
then is their natural habitat.
However, I will say that one of the ideas I am toying with for Tomb
Hunter 2 is a game set either in Egypt, which would be cool, or one
set somewhere in Central America in the Yucatan Peninsula. Both offer
natural habitats for scorpions and I could borrow them as a basic
enemy for the game the way it was done in Tomb Raider Last Revelation.

Re: [Audyssey] Looking for some usb gamepad advice.

2010-06-29 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
I think the reason you didn't get any feedback is nobody had any
answers to give not because we didn't get your e-mail. I really don't
know how to answer your question myself as I don't personally own a
Play Station 3 controller, and the Play Station 2 controllers I have
don't work with accessible games. If the Play Station 3 controllers
are anything like the Play Station 2 controllers then forget it. It
won't work, but that is only a guess based on my prier experience.
I do have a Philips 2909, however, and I love it for playing PC games.
I haven't really had any issues or problems with it with any of the
accessible games I have played. I don't have Blast Chamber so can't
give you any advice how to get the Philips to work with that specific
game.
As far as alternative controllers I do have an XBox 360 controller I
have been testing with XInput for the PC, and am looking into
supporting those controllers with my own games, but I haven't really
done extensive testing with other accessible games with it. I think
you can get XBox controllers to work with older games using
DirectInput, but that library wasn't really designed for that kind of
controller the way the newer XInput library was.

 Hi Hayden,
No, the snitch inside the castle is there to annoy you.
You can't catch it or nor do any spells affect it.
But then I'm working on an update to the Sarah game, so I may throw in a
surprise or two concerning the castle snitch.

 Hi Phil,
Yeah, those are used too sometimes. I think in Tomb Raider, if I
remember correctly, the shift+control+down arrow combo causes Lara to
do a reverse safety drop. Basicly, what that is is she turns around,
grabs hold of a ledge or something, and then drops to the ground. Of
course, not every mainstream game has this feature, but it is a
frequently used one in the Tomb Raider series.
As for the automatic walking feature in Sarah I absolutely hate that
 feature with a passion that's why I have a custom keyboard.ini file
that reverses the control+arrow key combo with the standard arrow keys
That way the game operates the way I think it should rather than the
 default setup.
Anyway, I guess what I was getting at is that some of us would like to
manually do things instead of having it automatically done for you.
For me it gives a little more challenge/fun to the game if you have to
manually raise the end of the broom to shoot over the care taker's
head rather than the game assuming that's what you want to do anyway
and do it for you automatically
Its kind of like in Tank Commander where you can set the autorange
finder on so it automatically sets the range of the barrel, but
that's kind of no fun for me. I like leaving it off and sight the
barrel myself using the home and end keys. Makes it more fun and a
 little more challenging some how.

 Smile.

Re: [Audyssey] Advice on implamenting accessibilityintoavisual/graphical game?

2010-06-29 Thread shaun everiss
hmmm a popup came up even though I had the latest version asking
about google I told it no then made it go away and it worked fine.
ie put up a warning about activex not allowed but it does this on a
number of lagit sites and its never effected things.

At 12:26 a.m. 30/06/2010, you wrote:

Hi,

This issue may be related to a Shockwave popup screen (which I think
was added by Macromedia after we launched Sudo-San) in which you
have to allow the game to access a script on our website.

Can you try this:

1. make sure you've installed the latest version of the Shockwave
plugin in your copy of Internet Explorer

2. leave your screenreader ON
3. go to http://gluid.com/games/sudosan/play.php (direct link to the
webpage with the game) in Internet Explorer (not FF - somehow our
auto-focus script doesn't seem to work anymore in the latest FF version!)
4. the game loads and after a while you should hear the intro. Then
a pop-up will open (which should be accessible via your
screenreader). It asks you for certain permissions with three
tickboxes. Tick the one with do not ask again and click the button
allow. This makes sure that the popup will not popup every time.

5. turn OFF your screenreader
6. press F5 to reload the webpage
7. the game should now reload and start without the pop-up. If all
is well you should now be able to control the game via the keyboard

Please make sure to read the documentation on
http://www.audiogames.net/sudosan/ and also check out the Sudo-San
forum: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewforum.php?id=17 . This posts
also deals with some accessibility issues:
