[Audyssey] New RPG coming for the iPhone.

2011-11-11 Thread michael barnes

Hey, All.
This morning I was messing around on the app store on my iPhone and I
came across a interresting game.

The game is call SilverSword and it is free on the iPhone to play.
Before I give the description of the game I do want to let everyone
know that when I was playing this game I did notice a small
accessibility problem.
Well the good news is I have sent a email to the developer and the
developer responded back with a good atitude about the issue.

The developer told me that there shouldn't be a problem fixing the issue.
So the developer will be working with the app to make it accessible.
If you would like to contact the developer here is the support email address.
i...@silversword-rpg.com
I think this game will be pretty good when the game full version gets release.
So without further delay here is the app description from the apple app
store on the iPhone.
Silversword is a mobile fantasy role-playing game which will take you
to the mysterious lands of Tarnak, a world far beyond reality. Gather a
band of brave heroes and face the evil that is about to destroy mankind.
Silversword is a game in the style of The Bards Tale, Wizardry and
Might & Magic - enjoy memories of old with new devices.

The full version will be released at the end of the year, with much
more content, more classes, and tons of spells, monsters, loot and
lore! The Lite version is limited to Level 6, and you cannot change
class (more details about the Lite version can be found in the manual).

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-25 Thread Dark
Well, it is literally months sinse I last played, but it's nice to get back
onto the Sryth forum and have a chat with everyone.

One advantage of being away for so long though, is that there's now so much
new stuff for Ekitrina to do, it's lmost like playing a hole new Rpg. One
disadvantage is that from being one of the top four or five characters in
the game, she's gone right down!

I think I'll have to buy her some Ag tocans to compensate, - especially
as her Mr is currently slightly low. (and I don't mind contributing to the
game anyway).

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-24 Thread Dark
appologies Tom, you are of course right. I was using Pvp in the sense it's
meant in the vast majority of online games, - indiscriminating player
slaughter, often with theft, usually with rankings. This is one of my main
issues with the majority of text rpg's, that they devolve into repetitive
stat grinding just so that your character isn't getting constantly murdered!

I should've thought about my language though. Obviously players challenging
each other in the way you suggest would be an incredibly good thing (and
something I might well engage in myself).

Beware the Greu!

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-24 Thread Dark
Hello Bryan.

This e-mail has had a surprising effect! you've finally got me to get up and
star playing sryth once again! there's so many new features, it's almost
like a brand new game, but at the moment, sinse I haven't been playing for a
long time, Ekitrina is slightly overwhelmed, and in need of more Ag tocans
and Xp, I also need to renew my subscription, which is a pain, sinse at the
moment my creddit card appears to have stopped working, I'll have to go to
the bank tomorrow and see what I can do. then I'll probably be donating to
Sryth, in order for Ekitrina to at least stand her own again, even if she's
not going to be quite up at the end of the rankings she occupied previously
(as I said, it's the questing i enjoy anyway).

Oh, and as to the forum, my account seems to have auto deleted itself, and I
had to ask Havoc of the Sryth forum to create a new one for me (which he has
now done).

Beware the Greu!

Dark, or as I am on the sryth forum, Darkempathy.

Here we go again. If it's not people trying to tell Jim he should make
it so his games can have their audio files changed, it's these same
people trying to dictate how an online game should be made to not be an
online game. I guess if the thread started by saying: I'm thinking of
making game XXX, what are everyone's opinions on how to make this game?
Should it be online or local? Should it be both? Should we charge a
monthly subscription or not? Then I could see all these messages. Come

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-24 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Dark,
I think there is allot of room for PVP challenges that doesn't mean
player killing. For example, say your character enters a pub and plays a
card game with another player. You might win gold, a weapon, etc but not
outright kill that player.
Another fun PVP might be a tournament of champions where two players
must engage in hand to hand combat. They will knock out rather than kill
the other player. If you win the challenge you might win gold, hp,
stamina, melee, etc.
So there is room for PVP without slaying the persons involved. The
RPG developer just needs to get creative how it is done.

Hi,
Yeah, online play isn't for everyone. I can't say I am a big online
player myself. I usually have too much going on at my house to get
online and play a game for hours at a time.
Most of the time if I am on a computer I am on my personal laptop which
I take everywhere, and usually is not online. Only the main desktop
computer which is a family computer is online full time.

2007-09-24 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Yvonne,
Yeah, that is the down side of paid subscriptions, and one reason I have
as yet not paid for a subscription to play Sryth. I am on so
infrequently that paying for the game would actually be a waist of money
rather than worth it. Yet, I do like the game and perhaps once my work
load lightens up here I'll take a greater interest insome of these
online games like Sryth, and of course Che's RPG game.

That reminds me Dark, have you completely and utterly abandoned Sryth? That
hardly seems like the sort of thing you'd be likely to do, but that seems to
be the general opinion over on the forums. Several people have asked about
you and I remember someone saying you'd deleted your forum account. I tried
to reassure them since I know you had that music festival last month. I
assume you've just been busy with other stuff, which is what i keep telling
the folks over on the forum.

Hi Orin.

As you say, I don't think we can predict what's in the beta. I remember
playing the RR demo for a really surprising amount of time when it first
appeared though, despite only having one (and eventually two), tracks.

Judging by that, I'm quite sure of Che's ability to make a litle go a long
way, - heck! with the mouse idea, perhaps even grinding will be quite
interesting (something else we can occupy our time with in the Beta).

Beware the Grue!

Dark: the problem with PvP being optional, at least in the extreme alpha
parts of the game there might not be all that much quests to undertake, so
that's what we might have to do during the beta, asooming you're gonna
subscribe during that time, because I am.

Who knows though, we might see lots of things in the first beta. Anyway,
it's not even to that yet so I'll just stop with my prodictions...

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-24 Thread Dark
Hello che.

while I take the point about single player games, what you say does slightly
concern me as regards the Pvp aspect.

cooperative quests, and interactions with other players deffinately appeals
to me, but Pvp isn't quite as much my thing, and I'd be slightly
disappointed if this aspect of the game took things over slightly (as it has
in some other games I've heard of).

will there be some kind of limit on player killing, such as only having
specific areas for it? or choosing account types? (pvp or not).

According to my brother, in world of warcraft, you can choose to either play
on a Pvp enabled or disabled server, - even on the disabled server,
there are battle ground areas specifically for fighting other players if you
want. apparently though, Pvp servers can be a pain, sinse you can basically
be ambushed and attacked by total strangers at almost any point when your
not somewhere safe, my brother says this can be a particular pest when out
of quests.

Of course, other sorts of competitions such as raking, or contests not
involving player killing are apparently encouraged on both servers.

I imagine I'll be more in the minority in wanting slightly less of the Pvp
game aspects, stil, while your at the planning stage I thought I'd put in a
word.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.

on the subject of chess, For fun my brother set up chess 6000, the
chess teacher in 6000, gnuchess, and winboard as well as a couple
other chess engines together, with a 10 second limit on the time it
takes for each prog to make decisions, it was weird.

I don't think there should be a computer mode. A game like this needs to be
online only, unless all you want to do is kill NPCs without communacating
and partying up and whatnot.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-23 Thread Yvonne Alaniz
It's not the price. I would be more than willing to pay a year's price for
a game that is single player. At least that way I can pick it up when I
want instead of having my card charged every month whether I play that month
or not. I think Che's price is more than reasonable. I just want something
with no strings attached too. I am sure I will pay for at least a month
when this game comes out.

Dark: the problem with PvP being optional, at least in the extreme alpha parts
of the game there might not be all that much quests to undertake, so that's
what we might have to do during the beta, asooming you're gonna subscribe
during that time, because I am.

Who knows though, we might see lots of things in the first beta. Anyway, it's
not even to that yet so I'll just stop with my prodictions...

The way that the game works (I asoom Hack and Slash, there's really no way it
could be played single player. It'd be out of this world boring.

If any of you play muds you'll know what I'm talking about. Especially since in
this game you'll have to party up with people for certain monsters I suppose,
but perhaps Che could make a singleplayer party system where you could cast
some sort of spell to have an NPC join your party.

Maybe this is getting too in depth, but this kind of RPG that Che is aiming
for, in my oppinion, is designed to play online, and only online.

I don't think there should be a computer mode. A game like this needs to be
online only, unless all you want to do is kill NPCs without communacating and
partying up and whatnot.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-23 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Josh,
Making a stand alone game, in my personal opinion, defeats the purpose
of an RPG. A qq RPG game is one where the developer or games master
creates a game world, and then players each take up a character to play
and interact with each other in that imaginary game world. Believe me
playing against a real human adversary is many times more fun than
against a computer generated adversary.
For example, take a game like Chess. Yeah, you can get buy by playing
the computer, but computer players are restricted to only a few tactics.
A human player can be very complex or very easy depending on the skill
of that player. Humans are much less predictable.

Hi,
Agreed. $5.00 each month is more than worth it if this games turns out
to be as good as it sounds in theory.
That is only $60.00 per year, and as you so correctly pointed out many
of the commercial RPG games for sighted players is much more than that.
Even better it is going to be the first of it's kind for blind gamers
and that has a price higher than money.

ok what you could do is charge a fee or $30 or $20 for the single-player
game, and then if we want the online game we pay you for it, you send us a
key and those features of the game are unlocked when we enter the key or

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG

2007-09-23 Thread Che
You will have to be a subscriber and logged in to the system to play the
game.
I realize this is a new model of game play for most, but it is really the
only way this sort of game can be done properly.
I think you will find, if you are a fan of the online RPG genre at least,
that you will be getting more bang for your buck each month than just about
any other game out there.
There are tons of features I have not mentioned, because I am hesitant to
discuss possibilities until they are definate additions to the game, but
what I have mentioned here so far in previous posts will be included.
At any rate, we've got a long way to go on this project, and lots of
concepts and decisions to be hammered out.
The next step will be a set of online polls I will be putting up on Blind
Adrenaline soon to get some feedback about the general direction of the
game, so stay tuned to the list for more updates.
 Later all,
  Che

Hi Josh.

>From what Che says, I don't believe this game is the same style as Rail
racer or Sound Rts, --- Ie, you either play against the computer or other
people.

rather it will be like a mud, and the way warcraft etc works, with a full
online world, in which the various human players are different player
characters. The online world contains quests, which you can undertake alone
or in cooperation with others. there might even be the option to fight other
players (though personally, I'm not as interested in all the Pvp type stuff
myself), and would prefer it to be optional rather than required.

Beware the Grue!

Hi Yvonne,
Well, Che says the subscription should be somewhere around $5.00 per
month. According to the math that is only $60.00 per year. Not bad all
things considered I guess.
I imagine if he wants to he can offer discounts such as if you pay for a
year subscription it is $50 which is like having two months free if you
pay anually rather than monthly.
Che what do you think?

I can understand that certainly, but it is not cheap hosting a dedicated

I think there will be enough players of an online RPG to sustain the

Hi Will,
Che said in his email the testing will be for subscribers. By that I
will assume all you have to do is pay the monthly subscription fee,and
you can play, test, and make comments all you want.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

Hi Dark,

Quote
I know it's a very early point to ask the question, but I sort of vaguely
got the idea that some program code can be written in such a way as to make
new add ons and so on easier to create.
End quote

Yep. All Che needs to do is make some sort of level or quest editor for
the game which generates new things for the games, and they can be added
into the main engine. All thanks to good object oriented moduler
programming.
The Rail Racer track editor and Lonewolf mission creator are all good
examples of this.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG

2007-09-23 Thread Dark
Hi che.

I like! Are you planning on going the hole hog with magitech stuff,
ie,air ships, sorcery powered mek's, enchanted plasma cannons etc?

Imho mixed tech provides a lot of scope for plot and things to do.

i deffinately like the idea of game content being submitted by players,
sinse it will keep the world and game evolving and make sure there is always
something new to be done. However, monitory of new quests, items and
monsters is going to be a rather delicate process, to avoid things being
unbalanced.

I'll certainly be signing up as soon as something's playable, and
certainly you'll be getting feedback (and hopefully game content), from me.

good luck with all the developement shinanigans, and i'll hope to be
exploring this game and world in the relatively near future.

all the best,

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG

2007-09-23 Thread Che
The beta certainly won't be out this year.
When the beta is ready for testing, just sign up for a monthly
subscription and you are a tester. Lots of folks will not want to do this,
as it won't be a finished game, which is cool because I want to keep the
amount of testers down.
I do a paid beta testing team like this because with my early experience
with Rail Racer, most beta testers don't do crap as far as actually giving
you feedback, so this way, you can give me feedback or not, doesn't matter,
as you are a paying customer.
The subscription rates will be discounted for the beta stages however.
  Later,
  Che

[Audyssey] New RPG

2007-09-22 Thread Che
A quest generator will be included, much like the way a track editor was
included with Rail Racer, though the quest generator will be much more user
friendly.
I will have a few folks checking out submitted quests, and if they are
good enough they will be plugged into the game, this way fresh content will
continuously be added.
I want the system as open ended and modular as possible, so players can
create their own monsters and items as well, but obviously anything that is
created will have to be made official before inclusion into the game.
You will be able to play in this world sooner than you think perhaps, as I
plan on releasing the beta to subscribers as soon as it is in a playable
form, though it won't be near its finished state at that time, this way I
can get good feedback and players can enjoy the experience and help create
it at the same time.
Not sure about monthly price yet, but it will be closer to $5 than $15 for
sure.
One other tidbit, we're going to be playing in a world that is a mix of
magic and modern weaponry, so you may for instance be able to cast a spell
on your bullets, so they cause a web of netting to grow over your target
after making impact, that sort of thing.
  Stay tuned...

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-22 Thread Dark
Good grief Che! this sounds fantastic! I've been waiting for this type of
game for a veeery long time indeed.

Obviously now your only in the very preliminary planning stage, but one
question that does occur to me regards updates.

Personally, my favourite aspects of rpg gaming are carrying out the various
quests and enjoying the plot, and the exploration of the different
environments of the world. I've been incredibly jealous of my brother (a big
world of warcraft player), not only because of the game itself, but because
of the frequency of updates to both the world and the quests.

so, will the system be such that new quests and areas to explore will come
out on a relatively regular basis, - obviously not every week as in
warcraft, but more than say, every six months.

I know it's a very early point to ask the question, but I sort of vaguely
got the idea that some program code can be written in such a way as to make
new add ons and so on easier to create.

the voice chatting also sounds cool!

finally, any vague ideas on price? depending upon update frequency, I'd be
quite willing to pay as much as $15 a month for a game like that.

If it's too early to think about these sorts of questions now, I appologise.

It's just coming back from my weekly dice roleplay session, and finding this
mail, my brain is whirling with expectation and possibilities, - even if
it is likely to be a while before anything concrete turns up.

all the best.

Dark.

Re: [Audyssey] New RPG and Sound RTS and its potential

2007-09-22 Thread Che
Absolutely, and it will work fine with multiple accounts, as has been
brought up on this list.
I agree with Thomas that if you aren't running multiple accounts with just
one admin you are putting yourself at unneccessary risk.
Please keep in mind, the coding for this game has not even started yet,
and it is a very ambitious project, so the beta probably won't be out for
another year or so.
  Later,
  Che

  Hi Yvonne,
Sound RTS is quite different from the concept I am outlining for the
online RPG.
Sound RTS is more of a tactical battle game, designed to play like a chess

game, one at a time, but with no carry over or character creation involved
from game to game.
The world I am creating will be very interactive with dozens of players
playing in the world at once and interacting with each other, either in
groups fighting together or just hanging out, swapping equipment, gold, etc.

and war stories as they voice chat.
There will be quest for players to fulfill for xp, both as individuals and

as a team in groups or clans, as well as randomly generated monsters to
fight.
The environment and interface will be completely unique, using the mouse
and keyboard to fight and cast spells.
For example, as you walk around a village, you might hear a couple of
people talking in the distance, and as you near them their voices will grow
louder. A friend in the group may ask you for a force field spell if you
are a mage build, and assuming you have mana to spare, you can grab your
mouse, draw the proper spell design on your mouse pad and give them a force
field for their next battle.
The strength of the spell will be determined by your abilities as a mage
and your proficiency at casting that particular spell.
Anyone that has played Rail Racer will know I design with lots of features

for great replay value, and this new RPG will be no different.
It will basically be a blind version of something like World of Warcraft,
with a monthly fee paid to play it.
I will be posting a poll on Blind Adrenaline soon to get some feedback on
the RPG, so keep your ears peeled.
I have one more small project to get out of the way first, then full
development will start on this immerssive new world for us all to enjoy.
  Later,
  Che

Anyone that has played Rail Racer will know I design with lots of features
for great replay value, and this new RPG will be no different.
It will basically be a blind version of something like World of Warcraft,
with a monthly fee paid to play it.
I will be posting a poll on Blind Adrenaline soon to get some feedback on
