[Goanet-News] Egged on by film moguls, Goa mulls pull out of IFFI
Egged on by film moguls, Goa mulls pull out of IFFI From Pamela D'Mello [EMAIL PROTECTED] The Asian Age, Aug 27, Newsmakers Panaji, Aug 26: India's international film festival IFFI co-hosts, the Entertainment Society of Goa is considering pulling out of the film festival, after its push for increased partnership was rebuffed. Propelled by support from film industry moguls keen to take control of the festival and relaunch an expanded glitzier version, the ESG is talking tough about developing its own Goa film festival brand in the ongoing partnership tussle with Directorate of Film Festivals. This year, ESG sought use of its single software platform for registration and ticketing, and a share in programming of Indian premieres, and world cinema. Both were rejected by DFF earlier this week, prompting some tough talking from the Goa semi-government body that co-hosted IFFI for the past four years, since a much-hyped debut in 2004. We were promised a complete handover by 2008.Then they changed their mind. Now we are only asking for a greater role. We do put in 80% of the funds, but are treated like junior partners. This is no longer tenable, ESG general manager Nikhil Dessai told this newspaper. He said ESG and Goa would need to rethink its position, based on the state's long term plan to develop itself as an entertainment and film production hub. The ESG governing board is shortly expected to discuss DFF's rejection and take a call on its future course. One of the options being considered is a new Goa festival brand. ESG's new found confidence to bargain hard, comes from backend support it has from moguls in the film industry and private sponsors waiting to jump in. ESG already has a realistic assessment of its ability to go solo, it claims. Consultants it has been in talks with could bring in 175 top notch festival films, it says. Many see ESG though as a front for a proxy tussle between commercial movie czars straining to increase the razzmatazz and the DFF, which want to retain IFFI's serious avatar, besides compulsions to cater to pan Indian, regional and alternative independent cinema. ESG is already keen to take over Indian premieres, increase the glamour quotient, and bring in Hollywood stars for red carpet openings. DFF has its limitations. An independent festival would mean the possibilities are limitless, and would have a cascading effect, says Dessai, brimming with confidence. Prizes, prize money and categories could be increased, short films brought in, besides other sections. He said sponsors and backers, not just from next door Bollywood, but from Kolkatta, South Indian cinema, and contacts in Cannes and Hollywood, are backing ESG's plans. We've had talks with the industry. They want revolutionary changes -- a greater role for the industry, more business opportunities, more seminars, better films and old ways of functioning will not facilitate that, adds Dessai. [Goanet-News] Goanet Reader: From Siridao to Swindon
From Siridao to Swindon By Selma Carvalho [EMAIL PROTECTED] Driving through Swindon, I don't get the impression of a factory town. It is lush green with swathes of agricultural land, the streets lined with houses not given to prosperity but neither to the grime associated with industrial hubs. I would find out later that simmering behind the façade of tranquility lies the squalid reality of racism, chicken-factory jobs and over-crowded living quarters. For now, I was making my way to Agnelo De Mello's house, wanting to find out what had brought the diaspora Goan soul to Swindon. Agnelo, ex-president of the Goan Swindon Association, sits in his living room wearing an Islander shirt and wide grin. Musical instruments propped against the wall are a tell-tale sign that music flows freely in his house. He writes rap music and plays in a band. Much like the Biblical patriarch Abraham, Agnelo says he is the genesis of the growing Goan tribe in Swindon. He moved here from the Gulf some twenty years ago. He knew the then manager of the Rover assembly plant and was instrumental in getting jobs for Goans. From this humble seedling, a mighty tree has grown. As per the 2001 UK Census, Swindon had a population of 180,061 of which 1.3% were Indian. Senior Catholic priest, Monsignor Twomey estimates the influx of Goans in recent years to be in the region of 8,000. Although this figure is hard to verify, Swindon has become a substantial concentration of Goans in disapora. The Monsignor notes that his largely Irish Catholic parish has now been replaced by Goans. A large percentage of them are from Siridao, Goa Velha and Agassim. Portugal affords Goans, right to Portuguese nationality. By virtue of the EU's free movement of labour as per the Treaty of Rome, Goans have access to UK labour markets. I wondered if they had found the fabled pot of gold at the end of the multi-coloured immigration rainbow? Swindon is an industrial estate, home to companies such as Honda, BMW and Faccenda, one of UK's largest chicken processing plants. It is in factories such as these that Goans find employment. Anyone who has visited a chicken processing unit will vouch that the stench of raw chicken is unbearable and industrial accidents are not unheard off. The Wiltshire paper reported: In March 2002, Faccenda was fined £14,000 by Chippenham Magistrates Court when it pleaded guilty to failing in its duty to protect the health and safety of its staff, after a teenage worker lost two fingers in a chicken-skinning machine. The same year, Faccenda removed the toilet seats in the men's toilets. The staff alleged this was to cut short the amount of time spent in the restrooms. Men had to either squat on the toilets or sit on a rim encrusted by faeces and urine. The supervisory mindsets are military-like. Although Goans pride themselves on their ability to converse in English, in a country like the UK, many find their ability to communicate deficient and, they are averse to re-training. Their lives are condemned to low-skilled jobs. Life at the bottom of the industrial food-chain, however, is competitive. Amongst native Swindonians, there is a feeling that Asians are taking over their jobs. In 2004, rocks were hurled at a coach carrying Goan workers from Faccenda factory. Later in the year, coaches used to bus ethnic workers were vandalised. Faccenda is set to close as of September 2008. Visiting the blog world, I find that some are applauding the closure of Faccenda, seen as an employer of minorities. A source alleges that Goans have had to bribe Recruitment agents with laptops and paid vacation trips, to secure employment. I'm reminded of a Mafia-type protection racket. For all this they are paid a pittance. I called up Storm Recruitment agency, which supplies industrial labour and at one time supplied Faccenda, to find out just how much I would earn if I was willing to stuff chicken-wings into plastic bags. Between £5.52 and £6.00 per hour, which in the UK barely puts a roof over one's head. Goans predominantly live in the town center along Manchester Road, Elmina Road and Broad Street. Living conditions are cramped. Sitting rooms have been converted into bedrooms and rented out at £450 per month. It is common for two or even three households to be living in a house meant for a single family and sharing one bathroom under the most unhygienic of conditions. Karen Leakey, an active community leader who is perhaps more vehemently vocal than most about trash and multiple occupancy homes, made this comment in a Swindon newspaper, We have a large Goan population around here with big families all living in one house - as is their culture, thereby generating large amounts of garbage. Although her point was about the need to improve garbage collection, not all residents of Swindon are sympathetic. One comment was, maybe it is their culture but it is not ours and if it creates a health issue such overcrowding has to stop. What then is the

[Goanet] FW: IRRESPONSIBLE JOURNALIST VERSUS NGOs
_ IRRESPONSIBLE JOURNALIST VERSUS NGOs. Averthanus L. D'Souza. There is none so blind as the one who refuses to acknowledge a truth which stares him in the face. Mr. Sujay Gupta drifted into Goa in search of a job, and is now pretending to be a champion of Goa and Goan heritage. He has introduced a diabolical (Gupta's choice of word) distinction between the real people of Goa and the other Goans; as well as between the readers (the real ones, with the right to criticize) and the others. Sujay Gupta got off on the wrong foot by attacking ALL NGOs in the country, (eight lakh, according to him) including the NGOs in Goa. His original article in the OPinionatED column of the Herald of August 11th, 2008 explicitly accused all NGOs of supporting terrorism. His column was titled: NGOs: Where do you get your money from.? He clearly asserted that The demand for independent scrutiny of funding patterns for eight lakh NGOs in the country, including our own Goan NGOs, couldn't have come a day earlier. In support of his accusation that NGOs were supporting terrorism he cited an (obviously out of touch) Professor of Finance of the IIM, Bangalore, whose article in the Hindu, incidentally, did not even remotely hint that NGOs supported terrorism in India. This was Sujay Gupta's (deplorable) attempt to lend credibility to his wanton attack against NGOs in general, and Goan NGOs in particular. He deployed the big guns to support his frivolous and totally unsubstantiated attack. My rejoinder (which appeared in the Herald on August 23, 2008) to his original article, was a point by point factual refutation of the several allegations which he had made. Sujay Gupta has now chosen to describe this rejoinder as an angry diatribe (which) reeks of frustration and not of fact. My rejoinder quite obviously touched a raw nerve because I compared him to a circus contortionist, who is able to tie himself up in a knot. After reading his latest letter to the Editor (August 26th) I have even stronger reason to assert that, unlike the circus contortionist, Sujay Gupta, has tied himself up in an intellectual knot from which he is unable to untangle himself. He still asserts: Yes, I am trying to kill flies using a sledgehammer; some flies that bring in funds in the garb of NGO activity and use them for diabolical purposes (sic), or to fill their own pockets. It should be noted that in his original wild and grossly exaggerated allegations Sujay Gupta has not adduced any evidence whatsoever. Instead he has now chosen to shift the ground of the debate by asserting that a few (sic) NGOs who get funds from outside in the name of the NGO and divert them for more diabolical purposes, including funding terrorist outfits and organizations. In support of his allegation, he mentions that the National Security Advisor has warned of this, and there are a few such evidences before the Union Home Ministry from Kashmir and Gujarat. So now the accusation made by Sujay Gupta that all the 8 lakh NGOs in the country are conduits for support to terrorist outfits has narrowed down to a few NGOs from Kashmir and Gujarat (and no mention of any NGOs in Goa, which please note !!).A very far cry, indeed, from his original wild and irresponsible accusation that 8 lakh NGOs in India should be brought under the surveillance of the Government. I have already pointed out (in my earlier rebuttal) that all NGOs which are registered with the Registrar of Societies (or with the Registrar of Companies, or the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, or with the Registrar of Trusts) are already under strict surveillance. They are required to submit frequent Statements of Accounts duly audited by Chartered Accountants. Sujay Gupta ignores this fact, and stupidly (I use the word advisedly) asserts that .the onus of proving them wrong lies solely with him. (Mr. D'Souza). Sujay Gupta should know by now that the onus of proving an accusation lies with the accuser. The responsibility is NOT on the accused to prove his innocence of the charges. In Indian Law, as also in most western judicial processes, the accusations have to be proven in a Court of Law by the one who brings forward the accusation. In fact it is axiomatic in legal circles that an accused person is assumed to be innocent unless he is proven to be guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. Sujay Gupta is the one who needs to do his homework. And while he is at it, he would do well to find out what the Government of India is doing with all the incriminating evidence which it has (supposedly) garnered about the few NGOs which have received foreign funds and have transferred them to terrorist outfits. It should be further noted that Sujay Gupta has this despicable habit of shifting the focus of a debate. In his letter to the Editor (Herald, August 26th.) he asserts: I have never

[Goanet] Konknni - Marathi Bogeymen
Dear fellow Goans, I wonder on whose strength does Pundalik Naik claim that he will not allow any amendment to Goa's Officlal Language Act. There is no doubt that the present threat to the Act is nothing but some politicians trying to get a back-door entry for Marathi as the official language of Goa in the name of recognition to roman script. But this vulnerable situation has been brought about by people like Pundalik and his jolly boys of the devanagiri konkani circuit with their rajdhani of 'mad gaon'. I wonder from where Pundalik is going to get his numbers to challenge the government over Konknni after his naked act of exclusion of the Roman script Konkani writing community and his continued opposition to granting their just demand. The community was betrayed once and I hope it has now grown wiser. As for the mischief by politicians to demand that Marathi be given equal status with konkani is ridiculous; mere official recognition given to a language script does not justify giving official language status for another language. Just like the minorities are constantly being frightehened into voting for the communally secular Congress, in the same way the threat of Marathi is being used to blackmail the roman script konknni writers into forceful submission to devnagiri script konknni. The roman script konknni writing community is constantly blackmailed into having no choice of choosing other political parties and no choice as regards choosing its script for its mother tongue. How long will these sections of Goans continue to be blackmailed by this exploitative coterie of marathi Konknni converts who connive with the marathi lobby to exclude roman script fom geting its due place? -Soter D'Souza

To Goanet - Scan the names carefully in the news item below from today's Herald. It features the rogue's gallery of Goa's builder mafia which Herald cutely calls professional bodies. They want their bum pal Digu to clip the powers of the gram sabhas. This is simply another backdoor attempt by the builder's mafia to trample on Goa and the rights of Goans and enrich themselves (all that shit-shat about holistic economy). * http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=9012cid=2 PANJIM, AUG 26 — In an attempt to find a solution to the massive opposition from all quarters to developmental projects in the State, a delegation of professional bodies today called on Chief Minister Digambar Kamat suggesting an all-party meeting to decide on the economic activity that is required for Goa so as to create employment opportunities. The delegation — Goa Chamber of Commerce Industry, CREDAI–Goa, Goa State Industries Association Institution of Engineers-Goa Local Centre — in their memorandum states, “We are highly disturbed by the tendency of the Government to go on the defensive once there is any agitation against any particular private or public project. All political parties including the ruling party want to be politically correct, and in their efforts to salvage the party interest, they are totally blind to the trauma that entrepreneurs are suffering due to ongoing public outcry against ongoing/forthcoming projects”. Appreciating the concern of citizens and the NGOs for safeguarding environment and ecology of Goa and the demand for improved infrastructure the delegation felt they should not overstretch their argument without taking holistic view of the economy. Emphasising the need for upgrading infrastructure, the memorandum has deplored the tendency to stop all projects in industrial, tourism and housing sector on the ground of inadequate infrastructure. The professional bodies have also requested the government to improve law and order situation in Goa and to ensure the police are not just mute spectators when people take law into their hands. The professional bodies, however, welcomed the constitution of Law Commission and suggested a high-powered committee for administrative and legal reforms. The delegation has urged the Government to take a tough stand on businessmen who do not adhere to laws and are involved in illegal activities. “The Government should take steps to demolish illegal structures not only of unscrupulous sections of industry, but also of individuals who have numerous illegal structures in the NDZ, CRZ and encroached Communidade land”, says the memorandum. The delegation also suggested that the Government take legal opinion and comes out with a clear-cut statement on powers of the gram sabhas. The other demands made by the delegation include finalisation of Regional Plan 2021 and releasing new areas outside eco sensitive zones. The professional bodies also demanded positive initiative to give a boost to industry including tourism and strengthen the transportation network. Professional bodies led by President Goa Chamber of Commerce Industry Nitin Kunkolienker, included Eng. Ernesto Moniz, Arch. Tulio De Souza, Datta Naik, Arch. Brian Soares, Atul Naik, Gautam Rao Francisco Braganca. * r
[Goanet] DABOLIM AIRPORT SUFFERS SETBACK
Logically, Dabolim airport in its centralised location serves both North and South equally well in terms of distance, pricing of taxi fares etc. With the exception of a certain district in North Goa and other vested interests in Maharashtra, the entire state of Goa seems to want Dabolim Airport.[Sheila Dza] Sheila, your comparison of Dabolim and Mopa suggests to me the use of the imagery underpinning the required reasoning. One may understandably resort to comparisons of which is better if it is about two lovers. But if it is about two children (in this case one is yet unborn but unwanted by one of the parents as you yourself are pointing out). I would suggest that to make the necessary headway with the problem you try to think more of Dabolim and Mopa as children (or, if you prefer, as parents). Except in extreme circumstances, one does not say one child is better than another or one parent is better than the other.

During his peak form, Salema was the most dangerous player anywhere near the D-Area. Fast as the wind, tough as a bull and still a disciplined footballer, Salema could go past any defence with his magical dribbling and bullet 'shots' with his gifted left foot. A star player of Mafatlal Bombay (now defunct), Salema went on to play for Maharashtra and Junior India. Playing for Navelim Sporting back home in Inter-village tournaments, Salema was a 'Hero from Kuwait' -- welcome anytime he came down on vacation. Supporters used to go crazy to watch this mercurial striker and many youngsters, who did not know see him often, wondered why the Goan top Division teams never roped him in, then. He was a star at every tournament especially in Salcete. The fact that this young warrior can still put it past defenders much younger his age speaks about his ability as a dedicated footballer. Remembering his younger days Salema says, I was selected to participate in the Asian Championship'82 at Salt Lake, Calcutta but due to a knee injury during training I lost the opportunity. I also had an invitation letter from Mohan Bagan which I declined as I was too young to take the decision at that time; the letter, however has remained as a souvenir. Kuwait Indians are proud to have Salema playing at Soor and guiding younger players. His efforts to promote Indian Football game in Kuwait shall never be forgotten. [Goanet] Is India a poor country
Interesting article. Any comments, goanetters? Anil Desai - *From: TULSI SAVANIhttp://www.fosaac.tv/newsletter/inc/rdr.asp?31308___08823185736___mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] * *Sent:* Saturday, August 23, 2008 2:30 PM *Subject:* IS INDIA POOR? Is India poor, who says? Ask Swiss banks With personal account deposit bank of $1500 billion in foreign reserve which have been misappropriated, an amount 13 times larger than the country's foreign debt, one needs to rethink if India is a poor country?. DISHONEST INDUSTRIALISTS, scandalous politicians and corrupt IAS, IRS, IPS officers have deposited in foreign banks in their illegal personal accounts a sum of about $ 1500 billion, which have been misappropriated by them. This amount is about 13 times larger than the country's foreign debt. With this amount 45 crore poor people can get Rs 1,00,000 each. This huge amount has been appropriated from the people of India by exploiting and betraying them. Once this huge amount of black money and property comes back to India , the entire foreign debt can be repaid in 24 hours. After paying the entire foreign debt, we will have surplus amount, almost 12 times larger than the foreign debt. If this surplus amount is invested in earning interest, the amount of interest will be more than the annual budget of the Central government. So even if all the taxes are abolished, then also the Central government will be able to maintain the country very comfortably. Some 80,000 people travel to Switzerland every year, of whom 25,000 travel very frequently. 'Obviously, these people won't be tourists. They must be travelling there for some other reason,' believes an official involved in tracking illegal money. And, clearly, he isn't referring to the commerce ministry bureaucrats who've been flitting in and out of Geneva ever since the World Trade Organisation (WTO) negotiations went into a tailspin! Just read the following details and note how these dishonest industrialists, scandalous politicians, corrupt officers, cricketers, film actors, illegal sex trade and protected wildlife operators, to name just a few, sucked this country's wealth and prosperity. This may be the picture of deposits in Swiss banks only. What about other international banks? Black money in Swiss banks -- Swiss Banking Association report, 2006 details bank deposits in the territory of Switzerland by nationals of following countries: Top five India $1,456 billion Russia ---$ 470 billion UK ---$390 billion Ukraine - $100 billion China -$ 96 billion Now do the maths - India with $1456 billion or $1.4 trillion has more money in Swiss banks than rest of the world combined. Public loot since 1947: Can we bring back our money? It is one of the biggest loots witnessed by mankind -- the loot of the Aam Aadmi (common man) since 1947, by his brethren occupying public office. It has been orchestrated by politicians, bureaucrats and some businessmen. The list is almost all-encompassing. No wonder, everyone in India loots with impunity and without any fear. What is even more depressing in that this ill-gotten wealth of ours has been stashed away abroad into secret bank accounts located in some of the world's best known tax havens. And to that extent the Indian economy has been stripped of its wealth. Ordinary Indians may not be exactly aware of how such secret accounts operate and what are the rules and regulations that go on to govern such tax havens. However, one may well be aware of 'Swiss bank accounts,' the shorthand for murky dealings, secrecy and of course pilferage from developing countries into rich developed ones. In fact, some finance experts and economists believe tax havens to be a conspiracy of the western world against the poor countries. By allowing the proliferation of tax havens in the twentieth century, the western world explicitly encourages the movement of scarce capital from the developing countries to the rich. In March 2005, the Tax Justice Network (TJN) published a research finding demonstrating that $11.5 trillion of personal wealth was held offshore by rich individuals across the globe. The findings estimated that a large proportion of this wealth was managed from some 70 tax havens. Further, augmenting these studies of TJN, Raymond Baker -- in his widely celebrated book titled 'Capitalism' s Achilles Heel: Dirty Money and How to Renew the Free Market System' -- estimates that at least $5 trillion have been shifted out of poorer countries to the West since the mid-1970. It is further estimated by experts that one per cent of the world's population holds more than 57 per cent of total global wealth, routing it invariably through these tax havens. How much of this is from India is anybody's guess. What is to be noted here is that most of the wealth of Indians parked in these tax havens is illegitimate money acquired through corrupt means. Naturally, the secrecy associated with the bank accounts in such places

Re: [Goanet] Miracles
From: Agnelo Fernandes [EMAIL PROTECTED] I cannot make anyone believe in anything, it is one's own prerogative whether they want to believe or not. But I do fully agree and believe in miracles. Isn't the Birth of a new life a miracle? *** We do accept the possibility and the fact of miracles. Nobody is bound to admit them. But one has to evaluate the evidence instead of denying point-blank the fact of extraordinary phenomena. We believe in the providential love of God and therefore, even trivial facts can be considered miracles in the broad sense. Science will not come to our rescue in this case. Bible would ascribe birth to God instead of secondary causes, that is, to the parents. But when there are 'extraordinary, unexplained facts, then Science and historical evidence are witnesses to them, yet Science will not be able to explain them, simply because miracles transcend the natural order. William Ockham applied his criterion of parsimony ('Ockham's razor') to unnecessary beings, but accepted God, Trinity, miracles in the light of Christian Revelation. My contention is that we cannot deny miracles in the name of Science. Science tells us that something is 'extraordinary', Faith tells us that it is a miracle, ascribable to God alone. Regards. Fr.Ivo

From: J. Colaco jc [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2008/8/26 Santosh Helekar [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1: Both Jose and Fr. Ivo are Catholics who believe in miracles. 2: Jose has always said that he believes in them because of his faith May I agree with #1 above and disagree with #2 - as stated by you? In my clinical experience (of some years now) there have been some unexpected cures / recoveries. They have been amazing and wonderful occurrences inexplicable by our current knowledge. Until I find scientific explanations for the cures, I will call them miracles. It has nothing to do with my faith (i.e. religion). It has everything to do with my inability to find a scientific explanation for them. ***It is good that you have found in your clinical practice such healings, which according to your scientific knowledge could not be medically done. Enquiry can always be extended and much more verified. You can also call them miracles in a broader sense. You see the fact scientifically, and could attribute it to God or leave it in suspense. I am accepting miracles, not only because I am a Catholic and must accept the possibility of miracles, -- since Christianity is a historical religion rooted in the greatest miracle, the Resurrection of Jesus--, but also because I see the rationale for miracles. It is based on the observation and evaluation of facts in the light of Science and common sense. That is why I suggest that the Church needs to have an open investigation of unexplained cures. Was there an illness? Was it coincidentaly treated by a drug which was used for another purpose? Can there be another reason for the cure? Is it really a cure? ***As I am given to understand, the Medical Bureau does all this enquiry and much more... What else could they do in these cases? Regards. Fr.Ivo

[Goanet] Believers, miracles and a parable!
God never makes a mistake... Once upon a time a nobleman went hunting and took an assistant along. The nobleman did not believe in the kindness of Goa, while the assistant never ceased repeating that God never lets anyone down and never makes a mistake. During the hunt the nobleman was attacked by a wild animal. The assistant shot the animal, but not before it had taken off a finger of the nobleman, who got annoyed with his assistants praises of God. He got him jailed on returning home. The nobleman went again on a hunting mission and was caught by a wild tribe that decided to sacrifice him to their gods. But when they laid the man on the sacrificial block they noticed he did not have one finger and as as such was unsuitable for a perfect sacrifice. They let him go. The nobleman returned home and the first thing he did was to get his assistant out of the prison. He told him what had happened and asked: If your God is always good and makes no mistake, why did he allow me to put you in jail? He replied: Had you not done it, I would have been with you hunting and since I have all fingers, the tribals would not have spared me!

Re: [Goanet] Unmask yourself...if you have the ....Joe Goa UK
Joe Ed You are both correct in what you say, both really singing from the same hymn sheet, only at different levels. There is much to be said about the barking dog, also the biting one. The remote controllers (those not in residence in Goa), do their bit, by continually biting at the ankles of the corrupt despicable in the higher echelons of society, elected legally (questionable with all this communalism, threats of violence, greasy of palms under-handed illegal ways etc).just as the Goans living back in their homeland who also do their bit. Joe has been showing us the awful mess (but the majority of his pics videos are more of a promotion of Goa than what has been lately), that is not Joe's fault. Things have changed dramatically over the past couple of years, more so this year with the influx of so many migrants with no homes or arrangements made to where they will live, causing the already-unstable infrastructure having to cope with so many people needing to use the toilet, somewhere to sleep, somewhere to wash and so on. I am in total agreement with both of you, please take up your cudgeols together and speak out against the corrupt local governement that is not doing anything to help the migrants who are coming in their droves, for work. Those who do not wish to work, but prefer urinating and defecating in public places (not even bothering to dig holes or take their business out of sight, will only attract more to do the same. I feel sorry for the migrants, they are after all Indian, and Goa is part of India, they have a legal right to travel wherever they wish, as do Goans who go to other Indian States, to live and work. As do Goans who travel outside India, for the same reason, to make their lives and those of their children better, after all we are all human beings, be they Catholics, Muslims, Hindus, Jains, Sikh, Buddist... no religion or faith matters in this compote of human beings. We are all the same except for varying in colours and outlook on life. Its is of course easy for me as you say Joe, and other remote controllers to sit at our computers, thousands of miles away saying that you must do this do that, but it is not, we would like to be there helping, but we cant, one of the ways that can help is to bring to attention to other country's readers of Goanet posts is precisely to nag, complain make a big show of the reality everyone in Goa is suffering, not just the Goans who have had it bad for a very long time, this time its the migrants, but this is addition to all that has been accepted by Goans, the corruption is not new, its as old as the hills that are being mined illegally. It is the responsibility of Government to cater to people's needs, not ignore them or place all these issues on the back burner, once in power. There is too much being done in the name of God, time to leave the Gods Goddesses alone, dont continually disturb them, they have given us a brain with it, the hands and feet to carry out our destiny. We need them in times of personal crisis, also when there is no crisis at all, just to thank them for well-being, able to find the food shelter we have, to thank them, not to cry wail for your sorrows, scream for revenge or hurt someone for the awful things that have been done to you or yours. Goans need help, from the government, they also need help from the remote controllers who are continually barraging Goanet emailling other non-government agencies, those who are working hard in Goa doing their bit, the charities are there helping migrants but not enough are out there, the goverment is not helping as much as they could. The infrastructure we talk about here is not sufficient, the land that is being used and abused by the migrants must be declared illegal something worked out by the local national government to help ALL Indians, the Goans have had enough, and are screaming with frustration, nobody listens unless you have bribery money or do them a favour in return. What a bunch of lazy, corrupt and inept people running Goa, there are a few departments though that I have read on Goanet are not quite as bad, there are individuals who have done their best, taken time out in their (also unpaid time) to do their jobs but do not have the power to enforce the rubber stamps they are able to use. What a waste of manpower a waste in the economy for Goa, but Joe Ed, you both have the hearts to beat as one, all together now.. hh No more squabbling please, too many divisions on this Goanet already with some airy fairy types we have on this forum telling us how to live our lives and dictating others to do the same. We are all individuals but keep it united. This bickering is not getting us anywhere, let us all live in harmony agree to disagree occaisionally, its quite human to dislike someone,

[Goanet] fair comment judgement by Canada's Supreme Court
From a recent judgement in Canada. -- We live in a free country where people have as much right to express outrageous and ridiculous opinions as moderate ones. Mr. Justice Ian Binnie, WIC Radio Ltd. v. Simpson, 2008 SCC 40. -- Posted AT 9:46 PM EDT on 27/06/08 Supreme Court ruling modernizes defence of fair comment KIRK MAKIN From Saturday's Globe and Mail OTTAWA — The media should not live in constant fear of facing a libel suit every time a provocative commentary is published or broadcast, the Supreme Court of Canada said on Friday in a major ruling won by controversial Vancouver radio broadcaster Rafe Mair. --- Canada's highest court has clarified when an opinion is fair comment—and protected from a libel suit—in a ruling that overturns a libel award against Vancouver radio talk show host Rafe Mair. The June 27 ruling, endorsed by all nine judges, acknowledges that public controversy can be a rough trade and the law needs to accommodate its requirements. An overly solicitous regard for personal reputation, the court added, should not be permitted to 'chill' freewheeling debate on matters of public interest. Mair had invoked images of Nazi Germany and the Ku Klux Klan to criticize an activist who sought to ban schoolbooks depicting same-sex parents. --- The above items are posted just to show how fair comment is interpreted by the court in the light of some goanetters saying they are considering legal options for comments made in the debate over the recent Goan Convention. eugene

Re: [Goanet] Goan Music: HERALD(Goa), Aug 10, 2008
Thank you Valmiki Bab, for sharing the gems of Goan Music Regarding the konkani songs, this is what I'm saying to Goemkars around the world, to listen to konkani songs and brush up their konkani. There are a few sites and radios available for free listening. The first goan radio on the net available at :http://www.live365.com/stations/61664 has been providing konkani songs for many years now. Recently I came across a website by Dr. Lourenco Noronha http://www.songs-from-goa.at/goa/ which has the oldest Goan traditional songs lyrics with notes, besides a few other sites where Lyrics of Konkani songs are available. It is hard to find these old songs either on cassettes or CD's. Even songs which we used to hear on the good Old Akashwani in the 60-70's are not available. The tiatrist themselves have not been able to save their songs, including our late Melody King Alfred Rose. It would be a good idea if goans holding the old records/cassettes convert them to CD/mp3 audio, so that we can preserve these songs. Dev borem korum Edward Verdes http://kantaram.blogspot.com/ - From: Valmiki Faleiro GOAN MUSIC By Valmiki Faleiro Among my many debts of gratitude, one I owe is to Goan music. To ‘Cantorists’ and lyricists of Konknni songs. To those who set the verses to music, and produced a repertoire very dear to a substantial segment of Goans. From old-world gramophone records, transistor radio and the first cinema, it was the music that took me to the songs. The songs then took me to the lyrics. That is how Konknni songs, among few other things like Konknni-speaking friends and the ever witty, wise, and often wacky, world of Konknni adages, improved my otherwise severely limited vocabulary of the mother tongue. To them all who scripted, scored and sang all those great Konknni songs, here is a humble salute.
[Goanet] Fw: The dangling sword
Letter To Editor, published in Herald, 27th August 2008 The dangling sword Reuben S, Chicalim The comments by the political leadership in Bihar show their insecurity at being identified as beggars. A simple statement, for once reflecting the feelings of the Goan people against the migrant menace in the state is now a political issue at the center. The Bihar Ministers have gone to the extent of threatening serious consequences in the coming session of Parliament. In the midst of this tirade, it is noteworthy to mention this quote The people of Bihar are self-respecting and earn their bread through hard work they are not beggars. The beggars in Goa are the natives of that state who the Government has failed to rehabilitate. This quote amply illustrates how the corrupt politicians of Goa have made us the laughing stock of the nation. The reality is that beggars are a nUisance to both locals and tourists. These non-Goans are usually found at strategic tourist dominated spots haranguing them for loose change. Prior to this migrant influx Goa was a haven free from slums and squalor. Now large concrete structures and makeshift slums are threatening the picturesque landscape of Goa. The increasing presence of migrants is apparent during rush hours in state transport buses. The Kadamba buses that ply on the routes between major towns in the state are full of migrants, probably because private bus owners don't allow them onboard. These people enter the buses in dozens and are rude and abusive to fellow passengers. Their presence is causing much apprehension and promotes the anti-outsider sentiment. A stroll through the recently concluded Saptah would have made the average Gomkar felt alienated. It is opined that migrants from different strata of society, now make up around 40 percent of the population in Goa. A casual glance at the political scenario in our Goa shows that we have no regional party of standing to protect our interests. The two major political parties in Goa are both branches of a national party. The ministers of these parties are more interested in following the commands from the central party leadership. The hopes and expectations pf the locals are given second class status.
[Goanet] Broadband services in Goa
Here is another view of Broadband service in Goa from someone who has discontinued the service. With Broadband service my access to the Internet was sporadic and subject to sudden disconnections. Often times I was unable to get linked to the Internet at all. I tried at various times of the day and night, and could not discern a pattern. I made several complaints at the Telephone Exchange in Porvorim which serves my home. At first they said they would change the line leading to my home. That did not help. They tried other things (supposedly), but it did not work. When I continued to complain, the person in charge of Broadband service said that the problem was the distance of my home from the Exchange. Apparently I was the furthermost subscriber from the Telephone exchange in an area where they cannot guarantee Broadband service. They said that at the most they could guarantee Broadband service upto 3.5 km (length of the telephone cable) from the Exchange.and I was beyond the limit and should not have been given a connection in the first place. Now they tell me, after 2 years of frustration If any one has any ideas of how to link up to the Internet, other than BSNL dial up service which is slow and unpredictable, I would appreciate your letting me know.

[Goanet] Man convicted of child cruelty over religious ceremony
Man convicted of child cruelty over religious ceremony Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:01pm BST LONDON (Reuters) - A man has been convicted in Manchester of child cruelty for forcing two boys to flail themselves during a Muslim ceremony, prosecutors said on Wednesday. Syed Mustafa Zaidi, 44, of Eccles, had forced the boys to whip themselves with a wooden handle attached to a number of chains with curved blades at the ends during an annual Shia Muslim ceremony, police said. The boys, aged 13 and 15, were taken to hospital by their mother suffering from several deep wounds and on their backs and multiple slash wounds. Zaidi had used the Zangeer Zani flail on himself during the ceremony at a Manchester centre in January, before being stopped by other members of the Muslim community. He then forced the boys to flagellate themselves instead. Community members stepped in again to help the youngsters. Zaidi was found guilty of two counts of child cruelty at Manchester Crown Court on Wednesday. Carol Jackson, of Greater Manchester Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), said in a statement: The CPS wishes to make it clear that this prosecution was not an attack upon the practices or ceremonies of Shia Muslims. Indeed, the prosecution relied as part of its evidence upon the president of the local Shia Community Centre. Superintendent Nadeem Butt, from Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: This man not only abused the vulnerability of these children but also went against the wishes of his own community, as well as knowingly breaking the law. The sensitivities this case raises -- both legal and cultural -- are significant. We are aware of the community's concerns about how this case could be portrayed, and have been working closely with community leaders throughout the process. Sentencing will be on September 24. Re: [Goanet] Flotsam and jetsam from India head to Goa
We hear from various posters that we remote controllers (those not resident in Goa, but live abroad), ought to do something constructive by moving back to Goa and doing something about the issues instead of mouthing off. I would love to come back to Goa, if someone will feed, clothe house me and my family. I will dedicate as much time as Rajan all the other posters but exactly where will all my blood sweat tears get me? Will be just another one who will cry moan, complain endlessly about the past politicians, current policians grubby business men bankers, government officials who take bribes or are threatened 'all those migrants' who are the main cause of our woes. Time is not a factor here, the migrants are in Goa to stay, they cannot leave unless the local goverment pay them to go back to where they came from, and keep away from Goa, the NIMBY factor strikes again. Migrants go anywhere, but NOT IN MY BACK YARD. I have said it before, act before its too late. Its now too late to be continually moaning about the already settled migrants the new migrants now, they are in Goa to stay! Nobody has the will to do anything, other than ensure they are a vote-bank, or cheap labour for some companies, you can of course complain about it, more are arriving every day, by train bus, bull-cart leaving their mark wherever they travel. On Goanet, and by emails to various departments, I have asked, suggested, commented, even close to begging some of the posters on this forum to stand up and be counted, no matter where you are, you DONT have to be in Goa only to help Goa, anyone of any colour, creed or social rank can help, just by writing to the MLA's, emailing and bringing to attention of the National Government of India departments there, with information on mis-deeds corruption, local goverment are not doing anything to help the migrants with housing or work, they are sleeping on the pavements, on other bona-fide land belonging to other people. You can stand talk for hours on podiums in conferences, this is water off a duck's back, it does nothing but fire up the listeners, then protests gather momentum with verbal abuse, physical violence. Not at all constructive. Its far too late now to do anything at all about the inward migration, the Indians from ALL the other States have a legal right to come to Goa, or Goans to go to their State, no matter about this, just ensure that those who do come, have an ADDRESS they are staying at, no matter if its a hostel for 10 holding 40, or a house for 4 holding 20, as long as they are have an address. IF no address, then its the local police the local authority with the courts help (all to be uncorrupted..) who are the responsible for moving on any illegal settlers. Sounds easy, but it's not, so where is the blame for this? The remote controllers abroad? The residents of Goa who are legally there? Who will back you or help you? Your neighbours are the first point of call those physcially close to you, and for Rajan who has supplied us with many thousands of photos, for JoeGoaUK, for all who are currently IN Goa to contact the person next door get some groupings together, then people like Rajan who are good at talking the talk, to walk the walk. We remote controllers will do our bit, by badgering more and more, after all we cant physically be there, its frustrating for us, so please no more pilloring those who are trying to help, its dividing us, again. Unite and march forward to your destiny, its in your hands, not mine or other remote controllers in far away lands, get rid of the corruption first, not the migrants, they are legally there, the corrupt politicians are not, they fooled everyone who voted for them. And please, dont harrass those who are abroad, they have the same feeling for Goa, as they did when they lived there, they are just sad to hear, how badly things are going, but are powerless to help, so sometimes by scratching the surface they get spat upon, not nice. Re: [Goanet] Is India a poor country
It is quite scandalous if true. Corruption is at a high level, no wonder the lower levels are on the take as well. Not too sure the fact Mrs Gandhi was murdered by Indian hands is 'quite as simple' as that though. After rmuch political social unrest, I remember the many disasterous decisions made by Mrs Gandhi, she was almost paranoid at the end, she was responsible for many atrocities commited against her own people, from civilians being brutalised to marshal law curfew inforced due to all sorts of financial mismanagement her wheeling dealing to stay in power, Mrs Gandhi as you know sent in troops into the Sikh's holy shrine, at The Golden Temple at Amritza, this violated their religion their charity. Mrs Gandhi was very shrewd, albeit slightly off the wall in her last few months, a canny a politician but as she got ingrossed in the day to day changes of it all, she became a bit lethargic as far as her position was concerned , she was so sure of herself, she thought she was the benefactor of all things Indian side-stepped advice from her political colleagues friends abroad. She got herself tangled up with heriditary hierachy, for her it was as a natural progress to pass on the baton from father to daughter, the one that held the baton of Prime Minister was all consuming her. In the end, she paid the ultimate price, her Sikh bodyguard, she called him Uncle... eventually was the man to do the dastardly deed, the Brutus to her Julius Caesar it had that sort of a ring to it. Mrs Gandhi was well aware of what she was doing the message she was giving to the Sikh community, as well as to India in general, (the same bell tolled to yet another member of her family, much as her second son, and heir to the Congress Party another Prime Minister, Rajiv) Rajiv did something very similar, but to the other end of the country, with sending soldiers assisting the Sri Lankan government in attempting to disrupt the Tamils fight with the Singhalese government for recognition that they exist, let alone are residents, in the north of the island, for generations. The Sri Lankan government are not taking any notice of them, they can work, live have families, pay taxes run their part of the island, no problem but when you want equality, this is a no no, Pardon me if I vomit in public by giving a personal account of a friend of my family told us that when his son wanted to go to University in 1980's, he was told that as a Tamil, he would have to produce twice as many certificates passes from his school education. These two qualifications were to one Singhalese student's admission needs. It was fortunate he could supply this, so this was alright, since he could produce them, and he went to University, but his brother other friends were not admitted, though the Singhalese counterparts had exactly the same passes certificates, qualifications are not always qualifications, so inequality there then was alright, for the Sri Lankan government to suppress the Tamils in this way, there were a myriad of other ways also but too long to go into here. The Tamil Tigers (Eelam) were outraged by Rajiv's decision to send in Indian soldiers to dismantle what had taken several lifetimes to build, the messenger of death was in a poor woman, loaded with explosives on her back, she succeeding in killing him when she knelt to touch his feet blowing herself up in front of him. Sri Lankan Prime Minister Preemadassa was also murdered in a similar way, A male cyclist came at him, on a bicycle did the same to him. So the Tamils the Sikhs, in fact the majority of Indians disliked both resorted to this final act in sheer desperation. You dont kill simply because you disagree with someone, they must have done something unforgiveable to you to take such action. In Goa we see hear similar things happening, but discourse runs high in many States, Orissa has been in the headlines, this has brought not only State to State conflict but has taken religion as a way of getting revenge on fellow Indians. Its all absurd, the death of a nun, burned alive, the death of a Catholic priest beaten to death, the torture humiliation of another human being, all in the name of God? Oh give us all strength to withstand these atrocities, they are way off course, the main culprit is MONEY.. that is where it all started, and where it will all end. Goa is having issues with MONEY also, so much of it being purged from the man in the street, and nowhere is anything better being done in the name of humanity, its GREED. Pure utter greed that has got Goa in this mess, the man woman who votes for these politicians can only say, well I succeeded in allowing this man or this woman to represent us in the Indian Parliament, but instead has taken all our money gold into off-shore accounts, while driving in luxury cars

[Goanet] Goanet Reader: From Siridao to Swindon

Hats off to Sonia Mhambre for slapping the doctor. We all know the state of GMC, when even doctors dont admit their kith and kin in govt. hospitals. It is a shame that Sonia was arrested. Now, will we ever get a third-party unbiansed inquiry into whether the deceased was treated properly? Or will it be that the prosecutor, and the accused would be one and the same? The woman was placed under arrest by the Agassaim police. Dr George was at the receiving end as soon as he came out of the ICCU and disclosed to Sonia Mhambre, 26, her mother Jyoti Mhambre, 60, had expired. According to the police, emotions ran high after the doctor broke the news and Sonia slapped the doctor on his face. Medical Superintendent Rajan Kunkolienkar said the deceased had a sugar problem and she was a chronic patient. She was admitted earlier too. This time she was admitted on August 10 and her health was bad. The family was informed about the same,” he stated. Police said the woman security at the hospital had to restrain the woman after which they went and arrested her. She was booked under Sections 332, 504 of IPC for assaulting a government servant and using filthy language. According to Kunkolienkar as far as he could recollect this was the second such incident at GMC wherein a doctor was assaulted. The first incident, he said, had happened late in the evening some six-seven years back in the medicine ward

But what I cannot agree is that we deny the supra-natural in the name of Science, because the 'super-natural by definition transcends the natural phenomena and is object of Theology, whereas empirical sciences deal with natural phenomena. That is why I have been writing in this Forum, as well as in several others, like www.wordpress.com, in different languages. There is no contradiction between Science and Bible. The above quote from Fr. Ivo reveals a fundamental lack of understanding about science and its purpose, and what is meant by scientific evidence. ***Not at all. I understand it perfectly well. As I have said repeatedly, science is simply a quest to seek natural explanations. ***Agreed from the very outset. Scientific evidence can never be used to support the supernatural. ***In the case of miracles, there will not be scientific evidence, as in the case of other natural phenomena. But there is an evidence of human witness, of physical phenomena that occurred, for example in Eucharistic miracles. Unless these phenomena occur, we cannot speak of a miracle. All self-respecting scientists and science teachers recognize this indisputable fact and teach it to their students. ***Nothing wrong with it. Science has to progress among us and in the world. Your sincere dedication and total commitment to Science is to be highly praised. I never doubted it, even in my anger... I stated that your postings have raised the scientific level of the Forum. Here is a pertinent quote from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, one of the world's most respected scientific organizations, in this regard: Science is a way of knowing about the natural world. It is limited to explaining the natural world through natural causes. Science can say nothing about the supernatural. ***Absolutely right. That is what I have been repeating from the very beginning: Science neither proves nor disproves the existence of God. But in the name of Science we cannot deny the existence of God and the miracles. Miracles are not violations of nature, as David Hume would say, they transcend the nature. When I say that the white host has been changed miraculously into flesh and blood, there is human witness. There are more than 126 Eucharistic miracles throughout the world. Are all of them bogus? Science can say that it is human flesh and blood, but will not say that it is the Body and Blood of Christ. It is the theologian who will say it with roots in the words of Jesus himself. The physician will say that this healing is extraordinary, it cannot be explained medically. Placebo effect and spontaneous remissions are to be excluded, if we wish to speak of miracles in the strict sense. It is difficult. But miracle will be unique event. The theologian will speak of God's intervention, of supernatural. Christianity is based solely on God's intervention in human history. To deny God's action in history is to deny Christianity. To deny the Resurrection of Jesus is to reject Christianity. Our faith in Resurrection is not merely human belief. It is historical, well documented, Spirit-led. People died to give witness to it. Nobody would die for a lie. There is human witnessing to all these facts. The enemies of Jesus never denied miracles of Jesus. Science cannot explain them, but also cannot outright deny the historical events connected with them. Science has not proved through all tests that the Shroud of

Are you saying that God MUST perform miracles? And if he doesn't, he is not God? I did not conclude that since I survived, God exists. Why he does not intervene in other situations is a question you best pose to him. Perhaps he may send you an answer. Also ask that it will it will be a kind one. Roland. Sameer, I don't see the problem here. The facts as you revealed are: 1) the woman's mother was admitted to the ICU 2) the resident advised the daughter that the mother died as a result of complications. 3) the mother slapped the doctor on getting the news. So far the police have been right in arresting the daughter. If it can be proved that there was malpractice and/or negligence, the doctor should be disciplined appropriately with suspension of his medical licence. That will be enough to ruin his career. Church in India condemns the murder of VHP Leader and the ensuing violence in Orissa The Catholic Church in India has expressed deep regret on the recent attack of the Ashram near Turnudibandh in Kandhamal District of Orissa, in which VHP leader, Swami Lakshmananda Saraswati and five others were killed. The President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI), Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, has denounced the attacks in the following words: We condemn the act of violence which claimed the lives of Swami Lakshmananda Saraswati and some others at his Ashram. We are sad that a respected leader has allegedly been a victim of organised violence by the Maoists. Equally deplorable is the act of vandalism and arson on the Christian institutions in Kandhamal District indulged in by some misguided and unruly elements. We appeal to the people of Orissa to maintain calm at this hour of crisis and bring the tense situation to normal at the earliest so that people and institutions are protected and preserved. We also appeal to the State and Central Governments to take adequate measures to contain violence and to restore peace in the disturbed area. The Archbishop of Goa, Most Rev. Filipe Neri Ferrao, echoes the feelings voiced by the Conference of the Bishops and expresses solidarity with the victims of the several attacks. The minister asked him to bring a delegation of parents to meet him in the afternoon and he would solve the problem. (Prudent Media report) My question: Why must the parents meet the minister? Are they some sort of serfs to touch the hem of the great Lord in Panjim some 70 km away, before they can get their problem solved? Re: [Goanet] Kazur
Hi, Thanks for the nice pics!!! I remember my trip to Usgalimol early this year. The place is very serene, and with the cold clean stream (which once was a mighty river named Kushawati) flowing besides the carvings, it has a very fairy tale like setting. The caretaker over there was very informative, and he mentioned that there are more rock carvings around that are yet to be uncovered and discovered. Not even half a kilometer away from this place, we came across an open pit which I learned was an old mine. It was filled with water (which looked very blue - the sort that we see in the tourist brochures of island resorts)!!! There were some mine people doing a survey of this pit; I learned that they could be starting operations once more!!! It is such a sad state of affairs that we do not have any means by which we can preserve our own heritage!!! Shouldn't there be a buffer around such areas to protect these sites? Just a few kms away from Usgalimol is the village of Vichundrem. Here lies an ancient temple to Lord Vishnu. Only the foundations of the temple stand as of today, but looking at whatever exists, there is no doubt that the temple was artistically designed. There is no proper path to this spot, and if there is no local person around to show the way, it is nearly impossible to find it. The highlight of the temple is a big statue of the God which remains exposed to the elements. I am not sure why the idol is kept open - any miscreant can just steal it. The idol is very beautiful and deserves to be kept in a museum (or atleast protected in some other way). Next to the temple is the bed of a stream which must have dried up ages ago. Also, just by the side of the temple lies what looks like could have been another temple. A friend who accompanied us informed that as per folk stories recited by the elders, this was a temple to Betaal. The idol of this temple is supposed to be placed/hidden inside a pond close by to protect it. The path to the pond is nearly impassable; we tried for some distance, but had to turn back nearly bruised. I am not sure why this idol was hidden, but I would surely want to know/explore it further. Such history!!! Such a heritage!!! Regards, Prasad Vaman Raicar From: Rajan P. Not as well known are the petroglyphs inscribed on a rock in a field a few miles away in the tiny village of Kazur in Quepem taluka. Re: [Goanet] woman slaps GMC doctor --- hats off to Sonia Mhambre
Sure in this case courts will move very fast. 1) Babush Monseratte made the police march one of the guys in underwear. Will JC ensure that the courts will move fast in that case too? 2) Narvekar spent about 100 crores of state exechequer's money on a lemon called IT park. Our case filed two years back is still not admitted --- it still keeps coming for hearing. 3) You know the courts and India's lawyers. You will go completely broke spending on lawyers, and visiting courts and still you will go nowhere. There is only so much that people can take. And when frustrations come out, every one who is in the line of fire can turn to ashes. An action done by Sonia as a matter of conscience is to be appreciated. I hope Sonia will go to jail and defend her action and be ready to pay the penalty as per the law of the land. samir --- On Thu, 8/28/08, J. Colaco jc [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: From: J. As far as I am concerned, Sonia Mhambre has committed (based on the report) Assault and Battery against the young doctor. I trust that the courts will provide her with the sentence she deserves. BTW: I am concerned that a junior doctor was given the responsibility of delivering the sad news to Ms. Mhambre. jc
