Yes, also to show in chat to other players. It was never supposed to be a
client-side var according to its description (and to Joshua's replies in
here), it affecting the client was an oversight.

It looks like the ConVar is used in engine code which affects how both the
client and server process all disconnect messages. When set to 0 on a client,
it will always override the disconnect reason with "Client Disconnect" on the
client's end, which is unintended behavior (it's also what was happening
before this ConVar existed).

Re: [hlds] TF2 - Upcoming game server account requirements

2016-05-13 Thread Alex Kowald
Some other concerns I had about how Valve handled GSLT tokens in CS:GO:
1. Clients can only connect to servers with valid GSLT.
2. Item drops being limited to GSLT servers.
3. Arbitrary reporting system that bans servers for modifying economy
items. (Valve has taken steps to clear this up, however.)

Valve hasn't said they want to do these things so I remain optimistic that
this system will weed out the worst offenders and improve quickplay!

 Hey everyone,

I wanted to give a heads-up about some upcoming changes to the way
 server accounts work in TF.

In an future update, we are going to be introducing features that will
only be available to game servers that have a registered game server
SteamID, via the Game Server Login Token (GSLT) system. This system has
existed for some time, but is currently only used in TF for persistent
favouriting in the server browser. It has also gained some more
restrictions recently that you should be aware of.

 - Game server accounts are tied to an owning Steam user account
 - This Steam account must not be currently community banned or locked.
 - This Steam account must not be limited
 .
 - This Steam account must have a qualifying registered phone

 .
 - Game servers that violate the community guidelines for the game they
are hosting may have their access suspended or revoked.
 - Game server account suspensions or bans also apply to *all* other
game servers tied to said Steam user

More info and management tools are here:
 https://steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers

For TF specifically, being free-to-play, access to some upcoming
features may eventually depend on the qualifications the owning Steam user
account. So, while creating dedicated individual user accounts to own
individual game servers is possible, it may lead to an increased burden in
the future. We recommend game server accounts be registered to the Steam
account of the acting server owner -- GSPs should require clients to
 provide their own tokens.

This change will allow us to have a greater level of confidence in game
servers, by making it easier to revoke access for bad actors and better
tying game servers to their owners. The increased persistence gives us
many more opportunities to assign trust to community servers, and to
provide them access to features that would otherwise be too open for
abuse. It also provides a much better mechanism for dealing with abuse
than the current IP-ban system that is both less effective and more painful
for server providers that share IPs between clients.

We will have more information once we are ready to begin rolling out
these features, but I wanted to send this heads up such that current admins
and server providers can look into integrating this support into their
 setups.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I will try to
 address them,
 - Neph

I've been hearing about an exploit that is allowing players to equip

The most notorious example is the Mini-crit Minigun. By equipping a

normal slot, you end up with a minigun that minicrits until the Steak
 Sandvich effect wears off.

Now, I haven't looked up how this works (and my Google-fu is failing), so
I'm not sure if this would allow you to equip things like multiple
primaries, or if it's just swapping the order of slots around.

Re: [hlds] Frequent TF2 client crashes... any known triggers?

2014-06-26 Thread Alex Kowald
We've been getting these client crashes after the update as well. I think
they are related to the B.A.S.E. Jumper. I've looked at crash dumps
and C_TFBuffItem::SendWeaponAnim(int) is in the call stack when the server
crashed.

This points to the base jumper as the culprit. I looked at a friend's crash
dump and it was identical. If Valve would like to take a look, I'd gladly
send the crash dumps over. Like you guys I run a bunch of mods but from

Re: [hlds] Can't Join Team

2014-01-09 Thread Alex Kowald
I /think I've encountered this issue. The 'changeteam' command stops
working on the client but clever players can still use 'jointeam' to hop on
a team. You can reproduce this by trying to join a full team when you first
join the server (has to be your first attempt). After you have joined a
team once, you don't seem to be able to become stuck anymore in spectator.
It seems like a glitch with the HUD. Possible workarounds until Valve has a
look: Set mp_forceautoteam 1 or tell the stuck players to use 'jointeam
red/blue' or reconnect to the server.

random crashes, no crash logs just black screens and the game randomly shuts
 down.

 All Windows version.

[hlds] [TF2] Mass client timeouts since last update

2013-02-19 Thread Alex Kowald
Hey everyone, since last night's update I've been getting weird mass
client disconnects. To the client, the game appears to just disappear.
No crash dumps or freezing, it's just gone. To the server, most of
everyone is dropped: 'Dropped player from server (player timed out)'.
In console, the timeouts are usually preceded by messages like this:

Entity 4 (class 'player') reported ENTITY_CHANGE_NONE but
'm_hObserverTarget' changed.
Entity 13 (class 'player') reported ENTITY_CHANGE_NONE but
'm_nPlayerCondEx' changed.

Anybody else seen a problem like this? It's happening somewhat
frequently. Thanks for whatever help!

Re: [hlds] Pinion Pot of Gold blacklist?

2013-02-18 Thread Alex Kowald
Not using quickplay is a pretty dismissive solution to this problem.
Servers that lock people into watching the motd and cause player
crashes shouldn't be eligible for quickplay imo. Shouldn't be that
hard to code up a generator that reads the master list and parses out
a blacklist file for those servers with the public cvar set.

This is a bit out of the scope of this mailing list, but does anyone
have access to a list of servers using the Pinion Pot of Gold that I
would be able to import into my client? Normally I just blacklist by
hand, but this garbage is becoming too ubiquitous for that to be handy

Thanks in advance, I'm sure I'm not the only one on these lists who is
sick and tired of dealing with this.

Re: [hlds] Alias Existing Commands

2013-02-05 Thread Alex Kowald
That's ridiculous. Players should be able to close the motd without the
server forcing it back on. The game wasn't designed to force adverts on the
player. Alias has been useful to prevent servers from running malicious
commands and should stay that way.

I use it (alias over a existing convar/command) to prevent some
servers sending my client some commands I don't want changed on my
client. Examples have been that servers tried to upload screenshots up
 to their servers etc.

Already have to disable steam overlay MOTD for some malicious stuff
on some servers (I explore on others by time and while)

So I really wouldn't want it being blocked, for that leaves too much
open. There is no need for a restart, and imo its not a bug, I treat
 it like a prized feature.

Re: [hlds] Alias Existing Commands

2013-02-05 Thread Alex Kowald
Just because *clients *do things that *servers* don't like doesn't mean the
functionality should be removed from the game. It works both ways McKay.

Disconnect and blacklist aside (most players do this), pinion forces users
to watch unstable flash content in the MOTD knowingly. There's no chance
for the player to disconnect. The server operators see their players as
sources of revenue and ignore any of the burdens they put on other players
and the community.

The Server List should have a mandatory display of servers running
specific services so users can predetermine wether they want to support
such services w/o joining a server to be crashed or find out if the server
 is operated correctly.

Client users should be able to disable everything that is pushed from a
server to a client. It just makes good sense to allow people to protect
themselves from abuse and shotty server moderation.

We have added support for Steam community blocking in the dedicated

already authenticated on the server. If any of the players on the server
have blocked this player, the dedicated server is notified, and that new
player may be kicked from the server depending on the convar settings.

It is assumed that the most popular setting will take advantage of steam
groups. To do this, use the new  “sv_steamgroup” convar to set the group
that your server belongs to, and set “sv_steamblockingcheck” to 2. With this
setting only members of the group that “owns” the server may deny other
players access to the server. If a group has been selected and
“sv_steamblockingcheck” is set to 1, the console text will distinguish a new
player that is blocked by a clan member vs a non-clan member.

Here are the details of the options:

 sv_steamblockingcheck

1 = print results to console only

2 = kick the new player from the server if anyone already on the server
who is a member of the associated clan has blocked the new player

3 = kick the new player from the server if anyone already on the server
 has blocked the new player

4 = kick the new player from the server if anyone already on the server
has blocked the new player or the new player has blocked any existing player
 on the server

 sv_steamgroup

Set this convar to the group ID of the group that this server belongs to.
You can find your group’s ID on the admin profile page in the steam
 community.

Please send feedback about blocking in dedicated servers directly to me.

Re: [hlds] [hlds_linux] Forum vs. email list

2011-10-24 Thread Alex R.
You will probably lose traffic to each post. The mailing list is always
right there in your mailbox for you to read if you have a couple of minutes.
With forums, you'll have people that ordinarily would be reading most emails
to the list just because they are there, that are now only going to the
forum when they themselves have an issue. If you can find a forum/mailing
list mirroring type thing, where every post is an email and every email is a
post (with proper threading), that would be ideal.

Subject: [hlds_linux] Forum vs. email list

I am honestly astounded by the amount of people who complain when
people ask for help on help forums or mailing lists. Not everyone
signs up and instantly reads everything, goes through all the
 archives, or spends hours researching.

I'd like to use this comment as a springboard for a discussion about the
 format of this list.

I hear that a few years ago the idea of migrating the email list to a forum
was kicked around. However, at the time (is this still true today?) the
users of the list didn't like the idea. it is my understanding that most
 server admins prefer:

 1.) Receiving push notifications.
2.) Viewing the list in their email client

#1 seems like a really compelling advantage (especially for announcements),
while #2 seems like a personal preference, and many people have the
 opposite
 preference.

A forum has several compelling advantages:

1.) Easier to search and find answers to previously asked questions
2.) Easier to follow a thread of conversation. (I personally find any
 email
distribution list to become unreadable pretty much instantly, with all the
's and broken line breaks that everybody's mail clients and put
 everywhere.)
3.) Easier to modify your post if you notice a mistake or want to clarify
something, rather than making a new post.
4.) Easier to delete or move posts if they are spam, rude, inappropriate,
belong in the general TF2 SPUF forum, etc.
5.) Easier to ignore an entire thread that you are not interested in.

Could there be some sort of forum + push notification that would satisfy
what everybody wants? This list exists to serve you guys, so I'm curious
what everything thinks. I *believe* most of the guys would find a forum
format (perhaps with some push notification) more convenient.

It would be good to get some opinions about how people prefer to consume
 the
 information on this list.

 Please chime in.

 Your humble servant,
 - Fletch

I leave the thwack stick in the hands of whoever wants it. It doesn't
seem to work well anymore, but it might still have some entertainment value.

Re: [hlds] Merry Christmas to everyone!

2009-12-24 Thread Alex
I am extremely offended by your use of Christmas instead of happy
holidays. I find it offensive that you would generalize everyone as
being Christian. [/sarcasm]

Have a good one too! :)
I'm actually surprised and glad about how people aren't as politically
incorrect this year.

Hey,

From what I can see, it should be +ip and you need sv_lan 1 in server.cfg

These should fix it.

Subject: [hlds] Can't connect to my L4D server

 Hello!

I'm trying to set up my server as I'm going to move it to a local
datacenter soon, but I have couple of problems. I can't connect to my
Left 4 Dead server or my Killing Floor servers (Not sure if this belongs
here?). First off, here are my specs:

 MSI P965 Neo
 Intel E6600 2.4 GHz
 Geforce 8800 GTX
 2 GB RAM
 500 GB HD
 650 W Chieftec PSU
Windows Server 2008 32-bit Standard Edition

The server's LAN IP is 192.168.0.72. I try to connect the L4D server
through the console with following command:
 [code]connect 192.168.0.72:27015[/code]

It says Connection failed after 10 retries.

Here's the server config and launching .bat:

 [co...@echo off
 cls
 echo Protecting srcds from crashes...
echo If you want to shutdown the server and this script, close the
server window and press Y and then Enter
 :l4d
echo (%time%) Left 4 Dead server started.
 start /wait srcds.exe -console -game left4dead +map
 l4d_vs_hospital01_apartments -maxplayers 8 -autoupdate -ip 192.168.0.72
 -port 27015
echo (%time%) WARNING: Left 4 Dead server crashed, restarting
 goto l4d
 [/code]

 That's from SRCDS.com :) Server CFG:

 [code]hostname myservername // Serverin nimi
 rcon_password mypw // RCON Salasana

 mp_disable_autokick 1 // Poista autokickki käytöstä
 sv_cheats 0 // Cheatit pois käytöstä
 sv_consistency 1 // Pakota kaikille muokkaamattomat tiedostot

 setmaster add 68.142.72.250:27011
 setmaster add 72.165.61.189:27011
 hostport 27015
 sv_lan 0
 sv_region 4
 sv_allow_lobby_connect_only 0
 sv_search_key mysearchkey

 sv_voiceenable 1
 sv_alltalk 0
 [/code]

What am I doing wrong? Windows Firewall is off.

Re: [hlds] Group Banning And You

2009-09-03 Thread Alex
And again, one of the problems with group banning is that some people
may be in the group with no intention of griefing and are just there as
they were invited etc. Stick to banning hacking groups.

msleeper wrote:
Well it looks like they've changed the group description unfortunately,
but it's written up and down in their like 900 page thread on the Steam
boards that their intention is to disrupt gameplay and teamwork. That's
a pretty text-book definition of griefing if you ask me.

The whole point of this (awesome, long standing) thread is to point out
groups that people think are doing bad things. Nobody is forcing anyone
to blindly accept group banning anyone here, and nobody is saying it has
to be permanent. In a week or 2 this whole halo craze is going to blow
over, so that's how long I've set my bans for. I think these people
represent a threat to the game in the same way Team Romba did months ago
when they were super popular at causing problems in game. Same result,
 different means.

And for the record I think that anyone who only heals his 1 or 2 friends
is a pretty useless team member and I'll happily
slap/slay/blind/drug/whatever that Medic all day long. But that's really
 not the point here.

Maybe just rent a BOX where you can have full control over every aspect
of the server. We do that, and we can run as many servers as we like.

Numerous things could be the cause here. It could be an actual DDoS
 attack
from a botnet or a few people who have a decent connection DDoSing
 you.
Or it could be your provider having connection issues (unreliable
datacenter?). If you rent a server from a GSP, speak to them about the
 lag.
It could be their datacenter or them actually doing something with the
server to cause the lag. But if you own a box or rent a dedi from a
datacenter, speak to them about the lag. They may have to mitigate the
 DDoS
attack to get your server running normally. If the box is still
 discoverable
via lists and the server isn't down totally, it's definatly NOT a DDoS
  attack.

Try and remote desktop or SSH in and watch the CPU of the server. If you
 can
maintain a connection to the box without disconnecting or finding
 noticable
lag in response times, then it's not a DDoS, instead some script kiddie
 shit
that you can get rid of with that plugin. Hope that helps?

Well, imagine this scenario. A demoman is camping the main entrance to

floor with his back against the wall (and against the entrance). Now
he can taunt with close to no risk of an enemy getting to him while he
can see anyone trying to get in the main entrance and detonating while
still taunting. The demoman will not even be in the victims sight.
They might as well have unlocked r_drawothermodels for the demoman, or
 hopefully I've misunderstood something.

That seems like a very, very, very bad thing to do. A demoman could
place stickies around a corner and run the sticky taunt over and over
again which is also very quiet while looking around the corner,
basically giving him a wallhack. Or is that the idea?

Great thanks! Some features that would be nice:
Start Sourcetv record with X number of players
Record SourceTV demo at XX:XX Time
Record SourceTV demo for XX:XX Time

And not sure if it could be done in sourcemod (very unlikely) but is
there a way to view time stamps within sourceTV demo files? Like say i
want to see when XXX Player pwned the entire team and he said it happend

[hlds] SourceTV (TF2 and CS:S)

2009-05-08 Thread Alex
I've been wanting to record the gameplay in my clans server so we
finally got sourcetv up and running using a hidden slot. The problem is
they want it on all the time for administration purposes so im wondering
if it is possible to toggle sourcetv recording based on player count or
when the server has any number of people in it? Right not you need to
sift through hours of emptiness to get to a game. Also, i've been
wanting to get into video editing so I am wondering if any of you are
good with Sourcetv and would know anything about using it to make
videos. Thanks!

Re: [hlds] Windows TF2 CPU Core Usage

Thats odd, my clans server uses 100% of the one core its on. Not sure
our exact specs though. Oh, and were only 24 slots.

Ben B wrote:
I've noticed a few people insisting that a full 32 slot tf2 server will only

Is there something terribly wrong with the linux version, or is something
wrong in the way they're interpreting their usage?

Re: [hlds] SourceTV (TF2 and CS:S)

2009-05-08 Thread Alex
Great thanks! Some features that would be nice:
Start Sourcetv record with X number of players
Record SourceTV demo at XX:XX Time
Record SourceTV demo for XX:XX Time

And not sure if it could be done in sourcemod (very unlikely) but is
there a way to view time stamps within sourceTV demo files? Like say i
want to see when XXX Player pwned the entire team and he said it happend
around 5PM, is there a way to see in sourcetv what time it was when
the even occured?

 Howdy all,
I'm giving a talk at a conference this weekend on game servers.
Basically focusing on the technology behind them, how to secure them
(both from cheaters/griefers and from actual dedicated attackers),
the culture around running servers, and whatever else I have time to
 cover.

 http://www.notacon.org/speakers.html#Potter

Anyhoo, I was wondering if any of the folks on this list had any best
of/worst of stories, quotes, or feelings they'd like to share. If so,
feel free to send me details off list... cuz I'd hate to negatively
impact the signal to noise ratio on this list ;)

I also hope to be doing a deeper dive into the security aspect of
game servers at the Blackhat conference in Vegas later this year,
FYI, in case folks are interested.

 thanks

Does this mean that after the 'beta' the patch will be live? Or is this a

A beta update for Half-Life 1 Engine games has been released. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive it with -beta 0319 on the command line. The
specific changes include:

Server changes:
- Fixed players being kicked from servers with an INVALID_STEAM_TICKET
rejection
- Added a message to the server console to show when the server has
reconnected to Steam
- Made map name and other variables reported by the server stay more current
- Show HLTV being connected in the player count for pings
- Fixed occasional crash under Linux on startup for SMP machines

This update won't be in beta long, so don't delay your testing.

Re: [hlds] TF2 Blog Post: Server Scoring

2009-03-13 Thread Alex
there should be something about server configuration

it is posible to have a very good server even vanilla and to have 0 players

2009/3/13 Ronny Schedel i...@ronny-schedel.de

You don't get a penalty for removing players, the penalty is for each
 connection.

A score filter would honor 32 player servers again, because they earn more
points. It would be better to have a normalized score depending on the max
player count. So a 24 player server which is full all the day has the same
score like a 32 player server which is full all the day.

I think the overall idea of this is good, but there are problems that
  absolutely must be fixed.

  1. Players connecting and reconnecting to the same server over and over
 to
  'attack' a server.

  2. The server changing maps, technically all players disconnect from the
server, so when the map changes on a 32 player server, you get 32
  disconnects, and then 32 connections. 32 x 15 = -480 points for simply
  changing the map.

If any of the players have been on for fewer than 15 minutes, you'll get
  even more of a penalty.

  3. Players getting kicked - I should not be punished for removing players
from my server. If a player is cheating or griefing, I'd like to be able
  to
kick him without taking a penalty.

  4. Server scores should be visible to the server administrator, delists
  must
not be permanent if there is a delist mechanic in, negative server scores
must heal over time, mainly so you don't get a situation with a server
  being
permanently delisted. A bad server should stay delisted, but if a bad
  server
stops being bad it should not remain delisted.

  5. Crash exploits? There's always a new crash exploit, now exploiters
 even
have more incentive to crash servers, because now servers will be
  penalized
if you connect and don't remain on for at least 15 minutes.

  6. Players getting removed from the server for reasons beyond their
  control.
  - connection lost
  - steam down (yes it happens)
  - kicked by administrator
  - vote kicked by players
  - and whatever other reason.

The easiest way to prevent players from gaming the system against
 servers?
  No negative scores.

Good servers will have very high positive scores, bad servers will have
  low
scores. The -15 connection penalty is not needed. You can figure out how
popular a server is solely by the amount of hours played on that server
  per
  player.

Then simply allow players to sort the servers by score (and make sure
 this
'score' value does not come from the server, but from the master server).

Rather than delisting, allow players to filter the servers by score.
 I.e.,
Don't show servers with less than x score.

Many, many players join servers by ping, player count and map and give a

If they join my server, which they already do, they realize the mods and

Until you decide to at least consider the fact that you might possibly be
off base, weather or not you wrote a plugin to do this or that is a moot
point. The quality or usability of the plugin isn't what is behind the
driving force to resist you, it is the logic that farming is somehow a
banable offence that people are disagreeing with, and until you consider
 the
other arguements logically you will never win the arguement.

You're running an achievement server that DOES let people farm

simultaneous achievements) achievement (and probably progress
  towards others) before being banned.

You claim your server is full, so it's turning out just as many
achievements as other full achievement farming servers (maybe a
little less due to overhead - since they have to go find another
  server afterward, etc.).

You're banning these people from YOUR servers. You do provide a
public list, but your list is NOT authoritative and I (and many
other admins) would be hesitant to just import a list of 2000
bans. The vast majority of servers will NOT benefit from this list
because most will never be aware of the list, let alone be able to
import it easily (most servers are NOT running sourcebans/sourcemod
  with sql/etc.).

You're playing vigilante because you think the game should be a
certain way. That's fine, but you won't get much support for your
cause, especially with the way you are doing things. Simply
setting up another server (instead of the honeypot) would be a far
more beneficial to the TF2 community as a whole.

The fact is there are a LOT of player who prefer to farm or unlock
  than to grind for achievements.
I for one absolutely hate achievements, gamer cards, trophies, and
whatever other crap is added to games to make them longer, force
grinding, or promote social/web 2.0/e-peen crap. The mere fact
that a GAME is intentionally turned into a chore to keep players
playing is a slap in the face. It works though, because people
feel they need that epic mount, that extra costume for Chun-Li, and
  the Ubersaw.

It's a difference in opinion. You hate farmers, I don't care how
people enjoy their game. You imposing your view of the game on
your servers is fine, but I hope you realize that you're providing
an achievement server which has let thousands of achievements be
farmed, and that those farmers (who you claim to despise,
hypocrite) are then set loose on the rest of the TF2 community

Re: [hlds] [SourceMod] SteamIDs to 64bit integers

2009-02-19 Thread Alex
why ?

2009/2/19 bl4nk bl4n...@gmail.com

With the controversy going on where the SteamIDs were being changed
around a lot, voogru brought up the point about converting your SteamIDs
to 64bit integers. With some help from him, I've made a SourceMod
extension which will allow you to do this with ease. It currently only
works on OB mods (I tested on TF2, but it should work fine on any other
one), so for those wishing for this to work for CS:S and any other EP1
mods, I'm sorry, but I'll try to get to you later.

The extension is mainly for plugin developers (or those that know how to
modify plugins), and is really simple to use. I've made native functions
for basically all you can think of as for converting SteamIDs to and
from 64bit integers. You can get the extension here:

 http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?t=86019

If you have any problems with the extension, please post them in the
thread so that everything is in one place. I've included some more
information in the thread (see the Notes section), so if you have any
questions, check that out first before asking.

Big thanks to voogru for the help and inspiration for this whole thing.

Re: [hlds] Important notice regarding the HLDS mailing lists

2009-02-11 Thread Alex
you are true Matt

2009/2/11 CLAN RCR clan...@gmail.com

I'm reasonably new to the email list having only been a member for less
 then
a month but the reason why I'm a member of the list is because it at least
takes *some* working knowledge of how lists work (no matter how simple) for
people to interact on it. Forums are always riddled with kids and idiots.

We need some place for the dedicated admins to talk, and this is it. Unless
the Steam forums is going to make a board specific to 'dedicated admins'
with permissions on who and who can't access it this email list is the
easiest way. I doubt Steam would go through all the hassle of configuring
permissions, then having to deal with the whiny snots running a server on
their parents cable internet connection calling themselves an admin and
being able to access said board as well.

There is just no replacement for an email list that by it's very nature,
 filters out the annoyances.

Get off the list if you are running a cracked server. It's that simple.

Did I say fattie yet? If not then I have now. And you just used
dump_entity_sizes recently so it seems you haven't learned anything yet.
Luckily I now have complete command logging which is pretty awesome.

I'd love to call you fattie some more but the poor people on this list
 might
not enjoy their inboxes being filled with offtopic crap.

Oh there's a 41 page thread on Steampowered talking about fakeclients.
 http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=767078page=41

Why don't you go bump that instead?

 ===
 Justin to Half-Life
You also have to realise that Lotus has no qualitys what so EVER, if they
didnt use fakeplayers they would most likely fail just like my servers did
 without the crack.
 ===

I see you are a fan of Lotus. Just like this hacker:
 http://forums.gamingterritory.com/index.php?showtopic=4864st=0start=0

I recommend you join his group:
 http://steamcommunity.com/groups/lotussucks

Infact why don't you make your own? The more the better! I'm serious. It's
cool just do it.I LOVE fanclubs.

And with this I'm done responding to you but just to be certain that I can
withhold myself from calling you a fattie... I shall now block your email
 email as well, fattie.

New client features:
 - Added view model FOV slider to advanced multiplayer options.
 - Added a hide view model option to advanced multiplayer options.
 - Added custom crosshair support.
- Added crosshair image, scale, and color settings to the
   Options-Multiplayer settings tab.
- Moved HUD minimal mode Disable Spray options into the
   Advanced Multiplayer settings.
 - Added open_charinfo_direct command that opens the loadout
 directly
to the class you're currently playing.
- Replaced the Open Loadout entry in the options-keys
 dialog
with this new command. Rebind / reset your config to defaults to use
 it.

New server features:
 - Added tf_damage_disablespread convar to disable the 25% damage
   spread on all damage.
 - Added class limit support to tournament mode.
- Set the tf_tournament_classlimit_X convars to the max
  number

 - Added tf_tournament_hide_domination_icons convar, that allows a
tournament mode server to force clients not to display domination icons
  over
   their nemeses.

Gameplay changes:
 - Modified critical hit calculation. Overall, critical hit chance is
  now
   much more recent-performance based.
- Base chance is now 2% (was 5%).
- Bonus range based on damage done changed from 0%-15% to
  0%-10%
- Damage range required for bonus changed from 0-1600 to
 0-800.
 - Reduced random damage spread applied to all player damage from
 +-25%
   to +-10%.
 - Slight reduction (improvement) of the minigun's spread.
 - Increased flare direct hit damage from 20 to 30.
 - Rewrote Natascha's slowdown code to be more consistent.
 - Sniper rifle now supports Crit Boost state like all other weapons
(i.e. Kritzkrieg makes all shots critical hits).
 - Stealthed spies are no longer able to pickup the intelligence.
 They
   must uncloak first.
 - Increased soldier primary ammo count from 16 to 20.

Bugfixes:
 - Added UTIL_IsCommandIssuedByServerAdmin() checks to several
  physics_
CON_COMMAND scripts to prevent clients issuing the commands.
 - Fixed bug in teleporter logic that allowed engineers to build
   teleporters with HUGE health values.
 - Fixed matching teleporter not getting a health buff when the pair
 is
upgraded (only the tele you were hitting got the health buff).
 - Fixed Medic ÜberCharge percentage in minimal-HUD mode.
 - Protected against an HLTV related server crash.

Note that we are still working on the client timeout and lag issues.

Hehehe, they actually fixed it, in the latest TF2 update,

- Added UTIL_IsCommandIssuedByServerAdmin() checks to several physics_
CON_COMMAND scripts to prevent clients issuing the commands.

That's one of the fixes for TF2 + OrangeBox.

Let's see how long it will take them to update it some more.

Are you running any extra plugins (inc. SourceMod/MetaMod plugins)?
If you are, disable them one by one until it starts. If it still doesn't
start, type the following into the linux shell (as root) 'ulimit
 unlimited'
 without quotes.

Then next time it crashes, it will give you a core.xx file that is much

day after day like many others seeing the
pointless message wars in a few particular topics. Now, I too
  am having the issue at
hand between map changes. And, I'm not going to touch on
the topic of whether valve owes
us anything or demand an answer. The point I'd
like to make here is that this list is not meant
for this type of thing. It's
for server administrators to help each other, not to quibble back
   and forth not only
about a bug but at each other! I'd like to second what someone
said earlier and ask that you start
emailing -each other- instead of using the
list as a proxy. Clearly, Valve is aware of the issue and
fighting won't make them get to
it any sooner. Let's get back to the list's roots
and -help- each other. Please. On that
note, since it hasn't been mentioned in a long time, I'd
like to invite any who are
interested in helping each other to an IRC Channel
that's been around for quite a few months now, headed up
by Nephyrin.* It's on GameSurge @
#hlserveradmins.* I have a sad feeling that most will
not heed this message, especially due
to its length, but I felt I had to give a try at bringing
some kind of order back. If
even a few people agree to drop their issues with each other
and take heed of the point of this email, it
will have been successful to me.
   Thanks, Atreus ps. If you
disagree with this email for whatever reason, I urge you
not to reply with a series of
insults. Reply in a mature manner, or don't do
so at all. I wouldn't even mind if this went
entirely unreplied to, just read.
Hopefully the IRC Channel will pick back up and we can get
back on track on the list, too.

try typing this into your ssh console (depending on what access you have)
 cd [the location of hlds_686]
gdb ./hlds_686 core.x (This is the newset core file you have)
 bt

 Then paste the output

(I can't remember the exact format of the gdb command, its been a while,
 and
I dont have access to my servers at work. If that command doesn't work,
 try gdb
 core. ./hlds_686

If it says something like incomplete or corrupt core file, you will need
 to
run this following command as root: ulimit unlimited
