Bismillah [IslamCity] from Cairo to Buchenwald....and the chiken-soups of Gaza
Buchenwald. in 2009 The day after the day when he was in Cairo President Barack Obama went directly to visit the ex-concentration camp of Buchenwald in Germany Arriving to the camp he laid a white flower and said : This place is the ultimate rebuke for those who would still deny the Holocaustunquote If I may answer on behalf of the revisionists which never was my task , nor my duty I would reply to Obama two things : 1- revisionist do not deny the existence of the concentration-camps but they doubt and deny what has happened in them !! 2- Buchenwald is 6200 kilometres away from Cairo and has been out of business for the last 64 years , so why not having visited , instead , the Gaza Strip which only 263 kilometres from Cairo and is still in business OK Gaza is not a Death-Camp , as such... but it is surely a huge Concentration-Camp but if you would add the boycott and the starvation and the siege and the bombardments ... Gaza would then qualify as a Death-camp. Why to dig in past , when the present is equaly so rotten !!! Why to go look inside a 64 years old closed kitchen (Buchenwald) and to try to convince us , whether or not , it has had chicken-soup when a modern, contemporary and still active kitchen (Gaza) has ,still on fire , hot-boiling-chicken-soup ?? Are there also US-double-standards... in Chicken-soups ?? and in Holocausts ??? Sherlock Hommos a-non-revisionist-restaurant-critic 6th of June 2009
Bismillah [IslamCity] The Heart of Obama at Cairo Speech - Dr.M.K.Sherwani
June,6,2009 The Heart of Obama at Cairo Speech I am born of your sperm, I know the depth of your mind; I have your blood in my veins, What lies inside you, I can find. I was your breed, I know your instinct, On earth, you are the most gullible race; The praise of your faith gives you joy, Quotes from Qur’an glorify your face. Bush had a suspicious and dubious trait, He was a zealous fool ; aroused your hate; His color was a mirror to his darkest heart, I have a perfect match, I thank my fate. Many a time , I pondered, why he failed, I will surpass him, and attain our goal; I will vanquish you , but will always tell, In this world , you have a historic role. I am getting you slain through my slaves, That I have bought from amongst you; They are faithfully doing what I wish, You all are applauding me, barring a few. Our Israel will continue on the usurped soil, The Palestinians must not dream to be free; Afghanistan and Iraq now belong to us , Our drones will keep their killing spree. With the hysteria of terror and global threat, In your lands, our forces will always remain; I will pick up more spots to foment unrest, Till you dispel your dignity from your brain. ** Dr. Mustafa Kamal Sherwani,LL.D. Bismillah [IslamCity] ISRAEL WILL FALL IN 2O YEARS...AAMEEN
Date: Fri, 5 Jun 2009 10:32:45 -0700 Subject: CIA report: Israel will fall in 20 years A study conducted by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has cast doubt over Israel's survival beyond the next 20 years. The CIA report predicts an inexorable movement away from a two-state to a one-state solution, as the most viable model based on democratic principles of full equality that sheds the looming specter of colonial Apartheid while allowing for the return of the 1947/1948 and 1967 refugees. The latter being the precondition for sustainable peace in the region. The study, which has been made available only to a certain number of individuals, further forecasts the return of all Palestinian refugees to the occupied territories, and the exodus of two million Israeli - who would move to the US in the next fifteen years. There is over 500,000 Israelis with American passports and more than 300,000 living in the area of just California, International lawyer Franklin Lamb said in an interview with Press TV on Friday, adding that those who do not have American or western passport, have already applied for them. So I think the handwriting at least among the public in Israel is on the wall...[which] suggests history will reject the colonial enterprise sooner or later, Lamb stressed. He said CIA, in its report, alludes to the unexpectedly quick fall of the apartheid government in South Africa and recalls the disintegration of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s, suggesting the end to the dream of an 'Israeli land' would happen 'way sooner' than later. The study further predicts the return of over one and a half million Israelis to Russia and other parts of Europe, and denotes a decline in Israeli births whereas a rise in the Palestinian population. Lamb said given the Israeli conduct toward the Palestinians and the Gaza strip in particular, the American public -- which has been voicing its protest against Tel Aviv's measures in the last 25 years -- may 'not take it anymore'. Some members of the US Senate Intelligence Committee have been informed of the report. MRS/MMN FULL STORY: http://www.presstv.com/detail.aspx?id=88491sectionid=351020202

Bismillah [IslamCity] Decoding God's Changing Moods
Decoding God's Changing Moods By ROBERT WRIGHT Monday, Jun. 15, 2009 Symbols of the three Monotheistic religions. S袡stien D賡rmaux / Godong / Corbis ENLARGE + Jun. 15, 2009 Decoding God's Changing Moods By ROBERT WRIGHT The ancient Israelites got straightforward guidance from Scripture on how to handle people who didn't worship Israel's god, Yahweh. You shall annihilate them — the Hittites and the Amorites, the Canaanites and the Perizzites, the Hivites and the Jebusites — just as the Lord your God has commanded. The point of this exercise, explained the Book of Deuteronomy, was to make sure the abhorrent religions of nearby peoples didn't rub off on Israelites. Yet sometimes the Israelites were happy to live in peace with neighbors who worshipped alien gods. In the Book of Judges, an Israelite military leader proposes a live-and-let-live arrangement with the Ammonites: Should you not possess what your god Chemosh gives you to possess? And should we not be the ones to possess everything that our god Yahweh has conquered for our benefit? (See pictures of spiritual healing around the world.) The Bible isn't the only Scripture with such vacillations between belligerence and tolerance. Muslims, who like Christians and Jews worship the God who revealed himself to Abraham, are counseled in one part of the Koran to kill the polytheists wherever you find them. But another part prescribes a different stance toward unbelievers, To you be your religion; to me my religion. You'd think the Abrahamic God would make up his mind — Can he live with other gods or not? What's with the random mood fluctuations? But the fluctuations aren't really random. If you juxtapose the Abrahamic Scriptures with what scholars have learned about the circumstances surrounding their creation, a pattern appears. Certain kinds of situations inspired tolerance, and other kinds inspired the opposite. You might even say this pattern is a kind of code, a code that is hidden in the Scriptures and that, once revealed, unlocks the secret of God's changing moods. And maybe this code could unlock more than that. Maybe knowing what circumstances made the authors of Scripture open-minded can help make modern-day believers open-minded. Maybe the hidden code in the Bible and the Koran, the code that links Scriptural content to context, could even help mend the most dangerous of intra-Abrahamic fault lines, the one between Muslims and Jews. The first step in seeing this code is to look to the world that gave us the Hebrew Bible (what Christians call the Old Testament) and the Koran — the world that embedded the code in them. There we'll see how consequential God's mood changes could be — how, indeed, a burst of vengeful intolerance helped give us monotheism itself; we'll see that the birth of monotheism left us with what you might call a bad God. But we'll also see that this God then had bursts of moral growth — within both Judaism and Islam — and that the proven ingredients of that growth are around today, just when another such burst is needed. In the beginning — or near the beginning — was King Solomon. Israel's third King, he reigned in the 10th century B.C.E. (before the common era). In addition to being famously wise, he was flagrantly polytheistic. The Bible handles this awkward fact by blaming it on his many wives of foreign extraction, who turned away his heart after other gods. The Bible has the logic backward. In ancient times, when a man of royal blood married a foreign woman of royal blood, it wasn't on a romantic whim. It was part of foreign policy, a way to cement relations with another nation. And that cement was strengthened by paying respect to the nation's gods. Solomon's many wives didn't lead to his many gods; his politics led to both the wives and the gods. Solomon believed Israel could benefit — economically and otherwise — by staying on good terms with nearby nations. As game theorists say, he saw relations with other nations as non-zero-sum; the fortunes of Israel and other nations were positively correlated, so outcomes could be win-win or lose-lose. His warmth toward those religions was a way of making the win-win outcome more likely. Again and again in the Bible, this perception of non-zero-sumness underlies religious tolerance. This doesn't mean religious tolerance is always consciously calculated. The human mind does lots of subterranean work to pave the way for social success. But whether the calculation is conscious or not, people are more open to the religious beliefs of other people if they sense a non-zero-sum dynamic. See people finding God on YouTube. See pictures of John 3:16 in pop culture. The flip side is that perceptions of a zero-sum dynamic — of a game in which one side will win and one side lose — can foster intolerance of other religions and their gods. Indeed, a close look at the Bible shows how this worldview helped move
Bismillah [IslamCity] Evil Eye - help!
Asalaam, If someone can help my mom please write back; here is a copy of her correspondence to me. This is a lady who is very intelligent, well educated, and loving who used to always do for others. She has now been sick, lethargic, sometimes apathetic, she hides in her home and has met failure in everything that she tries to do which makes her more depressed. Doctors have no answers and she may well lose the last of what she has - her home and her children if something doesn't change. JK Nina and Alyce I used to study Quran sometimes reciting softly while at work during down time which due to the job was often; most people did homework and such during down time. A lady who hated me for no reason that I can comprehend used to always stare hatefully and maliciously at me especially when I was studying. This lady through other maneuvers caused the environment around me to be so toxic that I had to finally leave that job. My home and personal life simply fell apart during this time as well. As a revert I had never given much thought to the evil eye but since my life has steadily fallen into disrepair since that lady used to stare at me and I wholehearted seek Allah, swt and do my best to meet my obligations it has been suggested to me that I may be afflicted with the evil eye. How can one know if they are afflicted with the evil eye or if Allah, swt is simply testing them or can it be both and what can be done? I have been tested in many ways before but never for such a long time, I can't even describe the physical, pshcological, financial, trauma that I have been suffering these past three years.
Bismillah [IslamCity] Halal : Buying Muslim
Halal: Buying Muslim By CARLA POWER Thursday, May. 14, 2009 FRESH LOOK: Malaysia-based El Hajj markets skincare products such as moisturizer and facial cleanser to pilgrims headed to Mecca Palani Mohan / Reportage by Getty Images for TIME Khalfan Mohammed has long been buffeted by culture shock while staying in five-star hotels. As a devout Muslim he has learned to ask staff to remove the minibar's alcohol. He loathes lobbies with loud discos and drunken guests. When traveling with his parents, it is the bikinis that rankle most. It was quite shocking for my mother to sit in a restaurant with undressed people, the Abu Dhabi-based businessman says. My mom and dad are not used to seeing people in public wearing their underwear. To avoid such embarrassment, the Mohammeds took to renting furnished apartments. Related Photos The Force Behind the Gulf Boom Photos Islam's Soft Revolution Stories Saudi Arabia's Lessons Learned Dubai's Sand Castles No longer. On a trip to Dubai last year, Mohammed stayed in the Villa Rotana, one of a growing number of hotels catering to Muslim travelers. In the lobby — all white leather, brick and glass, with a small waterfall — quiet reigns. Men in dishdashas and veiled women glide by Westerners who are sometimes discreetly reminded to respect local customs. Minibars are stocked not with alcohol, but with Red Bull, Pepsi and the malt drink Barbican. (See pictures of migrant workers in the Gulf.) Time was, buying Muslim meant avoiding pork and alcohol and getting your meat from a halal butcher, who slaughtered in accordance with Islamic principles. But the halal food market has exploded in the past decade and is now worth an estimated $632 billion annually, according to the Halal Journal, a Kuala Lumpur-based magazine. That's about 16% of the entire global food industry. Throw in the fast-growing Islam-friendly finance sector and the myriad other products and services — cosmetics, real estate, hotels, fashion, insurance — that comply with Islamic law and the teachings of the Koran, and the sector is worth well over $1 trillion a year. One reason for the rise of the halal economy is that the world's 1.6 billion Muslims are younger and, in some places at least, richer than ever. Seeking to tap that huge market, non-Muslim multinationals like Tesco, McDonald's and Nestlé have expanded their Muslim-friendly offerings and now control an estimated 90% of the global halal market. At the same time, governments in Asia and the Middle East are pouring millions into efforts to become regional halal hubs, providing tailor-made manufacturing centers and halal logistics — systems to maintain product purity during shipping and storage. The increased competition is changing manufacturing and supply chains in some unusual places. Most of Saudi Arabia's chicken is raised in Brazil, which means Brazilian suppliers have built elaborate halal slaughtering facilities. Abattoirs in New Zealand, the world's biggest exporter of halal lamb, have hosted delegations from Iran and Malaysia. And the Netherlands, keen to maximize Rotterdam's role as Europe's biggest port, has built halal warehouses so that imported halal goods aren't stored next to pork or alcohol. Such arrangements cost, of course, but since the industry's anchor is food, business is booming, even in the economic crisis. What downturn? asks Nordin Abdullah, executive director of the Halal Journal. You don't need your Gucci handbag, but you do need your hamburger. Not just hamburgers. Drug companies such as the U.K.'s Principle Healthcare and Canada's Duchesnay now sell halal vitamins free of the gelatins and other animal derivatives that some Islamic scholars say make mainstream products haram, or unlawful. The Malaysia-based company Granulab produces synthetic bone graft material to avoid using animal bone, while Malaysian and Cuban scientists are collaborating on a halal meningitis vaccine. In the Gulf, the Burooj real estate company is carving out a niche, not just because it deals exclusively with Islamic banks, but because it designs spas and swimming pools that segregate the sexes. For Muslim women concerned about skin-care products containing alcohol or lipsticks that use animal fats, a few cosmetics firms are creating halal makeup lines. The burgeoning Islamic finance industry is using the global economic crisis to win new non-Muslim customers. Investors are attracted by Islamic banking's more conservative approach: Islamic law forbids banks from charging interest (though customers pay fees) and many scholars discourage investment in excessively leveraged companies. Though it currently accounts for just 1% of the global market, the Islamic finance industry's value is growing at around 15% a year, and could reach $4 trillion in five years, up from $500 billion today, according to a 2008 report from Moody's Investors Service. Bismillah [IslamCity] Barak Hussein Obama's Speech: Frank and constructive
Barak Hussein Obama's Speech: Frank and Constructive The speech of US President Barak Obama in Cairo was the first of its kind in history. No western leader before him addressed the entire Muslim world on issues of great relevance to both the West and the Muslim world. In his speech he discussed the contribution of Islam to civilization, the false stereotypes used about Islam and Muslims, the political issues of Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, the need for new beginning in relatioms between Muslim world and the West .He said I've come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world, one based on mutual interest and mutual respect, and one based upon the truth that America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles -- principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.- . But I am convinced that in order to move forward, we must say openly to each other the things we hold in our hearts and that too often are said only behind closed doors. There must be a sustained effort to listen to each other; to learn from each other; to respect one another; and to seek common ground. As the Holy Koran tells us, Be conscious of God and speak always the truth. (Applause.) That is what I will try to do today -- to speak the truth as best I can, humbled by the task before us, and firm in my belief that the interests we share as human beings are far more powerful than the forces that drive us apart. I know there are many -- Muslim and non-Muslim -- who question whether we can forge this new beginning. Some are eager to stoke the flames of division, and to stand in the way of progress. Some suggest that it isn't worth the effort -- that we are fated to disagree, and civilizations are doomed to clash. Many more are simply skeptical that real change can occur. There's so much fear, so much mistrust that has built up over the years. But if we choose to be bound by the past, we will never move forward. And I want to particularly say this to young people of every faith, in every country -- you, more than anyone, have the ability to reimagine the world, to remake this world. We welcome Barak Obama's initiative from the great Muslim city of Cairo. The tone of sincerity was apparent and most of us were touched by his speech. There are doubters everywhere who will say that this is only diplomacy and there will not be any change. We do not agree with them. The world can have peace and progress through dialogue, listening to each othe as President Obama has said. This is not to suggest that we agree with everything. It is not necessary. It never happens that we always agree on all points. We particularly feel that the invasion of Afganistan was not necessary..We also agree with his view that Middle East should be kept nuclear weapon free.Though he urged Iran not to go for nuclear weapons and did not mention Israel, it was clear from his words nuclear free middle east that he does not want Israel to have nuclear weapons. In any event we sincerely appreciate his speech and urge him to take steps as he has said. -
Bismillah [IslamCity] ruling: Reciting a verse of sajda while praying behind an imam
Question # 120670: What should the person praying behind an imam do if he recites a verse in which there is a sajdah (prostration)? Question: What should I do if I recite a soorah in which there is a sajdah when I am praying behind an imam?. Answer: Praise be to Allaah. You should not prostrate, because following the imam is obligatory and the prostration of recitation is Sunnah. If a person is praying behind an imam, it is not permissible for him to prostrate, and if he prostrates deliberately although he knows that that is not permissible, then his prayer becomes invalid. Bismillah [IslamCity] Obama In Cairo: A New Face For Imperialism
Obama In Cairo: A New Face For Imperialism By Patrick Martin 05 June, 2009 WSWS.org The speech delivered by US President Barack Obama in Cairo yesterday was riddled with contradictions. He declared his opposition to the “killing of innocent men, women, and children,” but defended the ongoing US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the US proxy war in Pakistan, while remaining silent on the most recent Israeli slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza. These wars have killed at least one million Iraqis and tens of thousands in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Palestinian territories. Obama declared his support for democracy, human rights and women’s rights, after two days of meetings with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, two of the most notorious tyrants in the Middle East. He said nothing in his speech about the complete absence of democratic rights in Saudi Arabia, or about the ongoing repression under Mubarak’s military dictatorship. In the days before the US president’s arrival at Al-Azhar University, the campus was raided by Egyptian secret police who detained more than 200 foreign students. Before leaving on his Mideast trip, Obama praised Mubarak as a “steadfast ally.” While posturing as the advocate of universal peace and understanding, Obama diplomatically omitted any reference to his order to escalate the war in Afghanistan with the dispatch of an additional 17,000 US troops. And he tacitly embraced the policy of his predecessor in Iraq, declaring, “I believe the Iraqi people are ultimately better off without the tyranny of Saddam Hussein.” He even seemed to hedge on the withdrawal deadline of December 2011 negotiated by the Bush administration, which he described as a pledge “to remove all our troops from Iraq by 2012.” Obama rejected the charge that America is “a self-interested empire”—a perfectly apt characterization—and denied that the United States was seeking bases, territory or access to natural resources in the Muslim world. He claimed that the war in Afghanistan was a “war of necessity” provoked by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This is the same argument made by the Bush-Cheney administration at the time, which deliberately conceals the real material interests at stake. The war in Afghanistan is part of the drive by US imperialism to dominate the world’s two most important sources of oil and gas, the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Basin. There was of course a distinct shift in the rhetorical tone from the bullying “you’re either with or against us” of George W. Bush to the reassuring “we’re all in this together” of Obama. But as several commentators noted (the New Republic compared the speech line-for-line to that given by Bush to the United Nations on September 16, 2006), if you turned off the picture and the sound and simply read the prepared text, the words are very similar to speeches delivered by Bush, Condoleezza Rice and other officials of the previous administration. The vague and flowery rhetoric, the verbal tributes to Islamic culture and the equal rights of nations, constitute an adjustment of the language being used to cloak the policy of US imperialism, not a change in substance. Obama made not a single concrete proposal to redress the grievances of the oppressed peoples of the Middle East. That is because the fundamental source of this oppression is the profit system and the domination of the world by imperialism, of which American imperialism is the most ruthless. Obama made one passing reference to colonialism, and to the US role in the overthrow of the democratically elected Mossadegh government in Iran in 1953. But in his litany of “sources of tension” in the region, he offered the same checklist as his predecessor, with the first place given to “violent extremism”, Obama’s rhetorical substitute for Bush’s “terrorism.” The reaction to the Obama speech in the American media was across-the-board enthusiasm. Liberal David Corn of Mother Jones magazine said Obama’s great advantages were “his personal history, his non-Bushness, his recognition of US errors, his willingness to at least talk as if he wants to be an honest broker in the Mideast.” Michael Crowley wrote in the pro-war liberal magazine New Republic, “to see him unfold his biography, to cut such an unfamiliar profile to the world, is to appreciate how much America will benefit from presenting this new face to the world.” Perhaps most revealing was the comment by Max Boot, a neoconservative arch-defender of the war in Iraq, who wrote: “I thought he did a more effective job of making America’s case to the Muslim world. No question: He is a more effective salesman than his predecessor was.” In his speech in Cairo, Obama was playing the role for which he was drafted and promoted by a decisive section of the US financial elite and the military and foreign policy apparatus. This role is to provide a new face for US imperialism as part of
Bismillah [IslamCity] MUSLIM DEMOGRAPHY.
Dear Brothers Sisters in Islam: Assalamo'alai'kum w RahmatUllah: I was very pleased to see the email Muslims Demography yesterday. Then I was/am upset because my mind boggles Will the Muslim Majority in the World change the Scenario of the World, tilting it to look more Islamic? Well I don't find any pleasure in the majority of Muslims - WHY? 1. More than 200 million Arab Muslims can not over power 12 to 15 million Jew in Israel nor can they tame Israel to come to terms with Muslims. 2. Are the Muslims of today not infighting with each other? what difference will be if smaller groups grow like mushrooms? 3. A Muslim is Honest, speaker of Truth, Not thief in its real senses, Trust worthy, Fulfill er of Promises, NOT a drinker nor Ha ram (forbidden) eater, 4 A true Muslim is never a gambler ( forward stock Player, Bet knitters, etc) 5 A Muesli never accepts Interest neither gives money on Interest nor obtains on Interest. 6. A Muslim always TRUSTS IN ALLAH - THE LORD OF UNIVERSE/S 5. A Muslim KEEPS UP MODESTY - COMMANDED BY AL-QUMRAN- AND - CANNOT AFFORD TO ENJOY NUDITY - WHICH BRINGS WAR TH OF ALLAH s.w.t 6 A Muslim is not AFRAID/ASHAMED OF KEEPING BEARD Please tell me if the demographics can change the realities.

A THOUGHT THE SERVANT’S EXTREME NEED FOR GUIDANCE --- The servant is in need of guidance, 3 at every moment and in every breath, in everything that happens to him and passes him by, for he is in the midst of many matters from which he cannot separate himself: (i) Matters in which he found himself because of ignorance, rather than guidance, so he is in need of seeking guidance to the truth with respect to these. (ii) Matters in which he knows the guidance, but did not act upon it in the proper manner, so he is in need of repenting from them. (iii) There are matters concerning which he did not know the aspect of guidance in them, neither in terms of knowledge nor action. ~ IBN AL-JOWZI ~ PoEtEsS Prayer, wisdom, knowledge and faith are the best gifts that I have……Zohra Moosa (Deaf Poet) *** {Invite (mankind, O Muhammad ) to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom (i.e. with the Divine Inspiration and the Qur'an) and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Bismillah [IslamCity] Corruption's cost in the Arab world - and beyond
Corruption's cost in the Arab world - and beyond Under-the-table deals range from parking spots to military aircraft. from the October 29, 2007 edition - By John K. Cooley ATHENS Do you need a local driver's license in, say, Lebanon, Egypt, or Cameroon? Well, weeks of paperwork and delays may be avoided if you resort to the Mideastern practice of slipping baksheesh - a traditional term for a bribe - to the right official. Want to park your car on a street in traffic-choked Cairo? Or in a safe place in bomb-threatened Kabul? The friendly cop is likely to look the other way - for a banknote or two. Petty corruption, virtually universal in much of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and parts of Latin America, is only the iceberg's tip. Starting a business or angling for a government contract can call for sometimes astronomical under-the-table outlays in cash or kind. Corruption and lack of transparency [in business and government deals] still constitute a very important challenge for the development of the [Mideast] region, reports Transparency International (TI), a Berlin-based anticorruption organization, in its latest annual report. Another private research group, Enterprise Surveys, found that Bangladesh leads in this category. Nearly 86 percent of firms working there needed to present tax inspectors with gifts. Here in the European Union, Greece led this category with a hefty 56 percent of firms. In 2004, Arab experts recently surveyed development in their own region for the UN Development Program's Arab Human Development Report. Surveys in five main countries of the area showed that 90 percent of people believed that political and economic corruption pervaded their societies. A main complaint: People in power monopolize the main sectors of the economy, either directly or as 'partners' of successful businessmen. Transparency International's new index of perceptions of public corruption in 180 countries and territories scores them from zero to 10, with zero the maximum level of corruption and 10 the lowest. It's clear from this list that countries suffering from dictatorships, authoritarian regimes, or conflict often display the most corruption; democracies, the least. Burma and Somalia are at rock bottom at 1.4 on the index; New Zealand, Finland, and Denmark emerge with the least corrupt societies at 9.4 each. The US, by comparison, ranks 20th at 7.2. In 2005 the United Nations Convention Against Corruption entered into force. Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Qatar (which ranks with Israel about 6 on a scale of 10 on the Enterprise Surveys list as the least corrupt Mideast states), the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen all ratified the UNCAC. Jordan has led Arab-area efforts to promote and implement legal reforms required by the UNCAC. Kuwait's ratings drop this past year jolted the wealthy oil state. In late-September a former Kuwait Defense Ministry official was sentenced to life imprisonment and fined $72 million for corruption. After Bahrain's crown prince publicly warned that no minister accused of corruption could escape justice, the government recently began to arrest allegedly corrupt business executives. Present and past Western administrations haven't always blocked corrupt practices by their firms. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair's British government had to quash on national security grounds an investigation of alleged huge under-the-table payments to high- ranking Saudis on a huge military aircraft deal dating back to the 1980s. Some US officials and congressmen would like to find out a lot more about recent allegations in Vanity Fair magazine. The article charges that some $9 billion in US bank notes flown to Iraq from Federal Reserve funds in early months of the 2003 invasion completely vanished or were never properly accounted for. Clearly, Western governments who would claim the moral high ground and lead the hard slog against global baksheesh should scrutinize their own households. They might find that their glass houses may not withstand stones thrown by others. John K. Cooley, a former Monitor correspondent, covered the Middle East and North Africa for more than 40 years. Bismillah [IslamCity] Israel wants Palestinians to make Jordan a homeland
Jordanian MPs: Break ties with Israel over Knesset proposal 29/05/2009 At least 15 Jordanian lawmakers on Friday urged the government to sever diplomatic ties with Israel in protest against debate in the Israeli parliament over regarding Jordan as an alternative homeland for the Palestinians. The voting on the proposal by the Israeli Knesset proves that the Zionist mentality of the ruling politicians in Israel does not believe in peace and has no respect for the peace treaties and UN resolution, the pro-government National Democratic Bloc at the lower house of parliament said in a statement. The group, which includes 15 deputies, considered last week's discussion in Israel's Knesset a violation of the peace treaty, which Jordan concluded with Israel in 1994. The group said Jordan's response should be the dismissal of the Israeli ambassador and withdrawal of the Jordanian envoy from Israel. The proposal depicting two states for two peoples on the two banks of the River Jordan was put on the Knesset's agenda by MK Aryeh Eldad from the far-right National Union-National Religious Party. The Knesset voted to refer the suggestion to one of its committees for further review. Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh summoned Israeli's ambassador in Amman earlier this week and handed him a strongly-worded protest that categorically rejected the Knesset move. Judeh reiterated Jordan's stance envisaging the creation of an independent Palestinian state on all territories that Israel captured in the 1967 Six-Day War, including East Jerusalem, under the two-state track supported by the world's leading powers, including the United States and the European Union. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1088969.html
Bismillah [IslamCity] the day after that speeech....until the next full moon
many did not care for that speech they had some shopping to do. How many Americans shared those new-views of Obama´s ?? How many US-politicians ever agreed with what he just promised us ?? How many even from White-House-staff , would call the Palestinian-cause , undeniable ?? How many out of the Oval-office-inner-circle do believe what their own boss has just said ?? In whose name did Obama speak ?? For someone like me , who has spend a quarter of a century in Marketing and in Public-Relations , I can easily identify a PR-ploy , a sales-stunt , an image-brush-up a face-lifting or the launch of an advertisement-campaign. If and when , Obama and the USA were to be honest: a group of 100 observers should fly, this week-end, and not later, to Palestine and to report immediately and fairly whether the new-settlements-building , will stop. This is less than a minimum of what should be done, as a start !! if the validity of this speech would want to survive until the next full-moon. Raja Chemayel fifth of june 2009

The Ahmedabad district administration, instead of issuing compensation cheques to the victims, issued as many as 21 cheques worth Rs. 20 lakh to one Prabhashankar Pandit, an accused involved in the loot and killing of Muslims in this locality. Pandit is out on bail Only in Gujarat: cheques for riot victims go to riot accused; probe ordered Submitted by mumtaz on 2 June 2009 - 8:24pm. http://www.twocircles.net/2009jun02/only_gujarat_cheques_riot_victims_go_riot_accused_probe_ordered.html By TwoCircles.net Staff Correspondent Ahmedabad: A scam in the distribution of compensation to the riot victims of 2002 in the worst hit Naroda Patia has come to light. A senior official of the Ahmedabad district administration P R Patel has been asked to look into the scam. The Ahmedabad district administration, instead of issuing compensation cheques to the victims, issued as many as 21 cheques worth Rs. 20 lakh to one Prabhashankar Pandit, an accused involved in the loot and killing of Muslims in this locality. Pandit is out on bail. Prabhashankar claimed over Rs. 15 lakh as compensation from the state government. The latest cheques issued in his name are from the union government’s compensation package announced for the Gujarat riot victims of 2002 on the pattern of Sikh victims of 1984. The Muslim dominated Naroda Patia, on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city, had several clusters with Muslim population. One of the clusters was known as Pandit-ni-Chali where 28 Muslim families lived. When the riots broke out, Muslims left the place to save their lives, leaving behind their home and hearth. Their houses were looted and damaged by the miscreants. When they were still taking shelter in Shah Alam Dargah and were not able to return due to security reasons, the administration began survey of the damaged property. In connivance with the local talati (land revenue official) and the government surveyor, Prabhashankar’s father Shivshankar Pandit forged the documents showing that he was the owner of all the 28 houses in Pandit-ni-Chali. This helped Shivshankar to get compensation from the state government amounting to Rs. 15 lakh approximately. According to locals, the Pandit-ni-Chali houses were constructed on a piece of land belonging to Dhanush Dhari Mata Trust with Hukumsih Bhagwansinh as its trustee. However, Shivshankar was mentioned as a caretaker in the records. “But after the death of Hukumsinh, Shivshankar declared himself as owner of the land’’, says Nazir Pathan, a riot victim and a school teacher. According to him, the ownership of the land should either go to the government or to the Muslim occupying the houses and not to the Shivshankar. However, the state government officials did not give any attention to these things and paid compensation to Shivshankar after the riots though Shivshankar was not the victims. When the security situation improved, Muslims returned and occupied their houses after repairing them. But no one could question Shivshankar about the compensation he illegally claimed for their houses because of an undercurrent of communal tension. Meanwhile Shivshankar died. However, the Muslim victims raised their voice when the Ahmedabad district administration handed over as many as 21 cheques of compensation to Shivshanker’s son Prabhashankar after the Gujarat High Court issued an order to expedite the compensation payment to the riot victims recently. The victims are now demanding that the administration must take the cheques back from Prabhashankar. On June 1, victims led by Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM) representative Shamshad Pathan complained to the district officials. City Mamlatdar Mamta Sojitra, in-charge of compensation distribution in Ahmedabad city, told Pathan and victims that the compensation was given to Prabhashankar because the talati and surveyor report mentioned Prabhashankar’s father as owner of the houses. However, district collector Hareet Shukla has asked additional collector P R Patel to inquire into the matter. Pathan said that his organization would move the court in case justice was not done by the district officials. With Regards Abi It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong. - Voltaire

HUMAN WISDOM, the MANIFESTATION OF DIVINE -- Behold this in the case of Moses and Mount Sinai. Discern form from substance, as lion from desert, or as sound and speech from the thought they convey. The sound and speech arise from the thought. Thou knowest not where the Ocean of thought is. Yet when thou seest fair waves of speech, thou knowest there is a glorious Ocean beneath them. When waves of thought arise from the Ocean of Wisdom, they assume the forms of sound and speech. These forms of speech are born and die again; these waves cast themselves back into the Ocean. Bismillah [IslamCity] Identity And Religious Conversion
By Tomichan Matheikal Countercurrents.org We did not convert because we are poor. If I am poor but accepted by my community, there is no [social] terror in that poverty We did not convert for money. We converted because of the society that saw us as lesser, not worthy. We were 'lower caste', 'untouchable', 'lowly'. Now we are Christian. Our god wants us. We can walk into his temple. We are worthy. You understand? [Spoken by a Dalit convert in Orissa. Quoted in Violent Gods by Angana P. Chatterji, Three Essays Collective, Gurgaon, 2009] The driving force behind religious conversions is, more often than not, a desire to live a worthy life, to have an identity that one can be proud of. The caste system being practised even today in Hinduism, despite all governmental efforts to eradicate it, is a major cause of religious conversions in India. Poverty and attendant exploitation is also another cause. But it appears that poverty and exploitation are intertwined with the caste system. The caste system in India was seen by Dr Ambedkar, principal author of India's Constitution, as the country's greatest evil since it treated millions of people as subhuman by the simple fact of their birth. The man who tried his best to replace the discriminatory caste system with an egalitarian society, the Buddha, ended up as yet another god among the millions of deities in India. His teachings were suppressed by the Brahmins who feared that their stranglehold on society would be undermined. Orissa is a state in India which witnessed much terrible violence in the name of religion and religious conversions. The violence still continues. The Sangh Parivar organisations are opposed to the alleged mass conversions into Christianity of Oriya adivasis (tribal people) and others belonging to the lower castes. Many acts of outrageous violence have been perpetrated on the Christians and thousands of them are displaced from their hometowns. The Hindutva organisations allege that Christian missionaries allure the poor people with money and other enticements. How much water does the allegation hold? Angana P. Chatterji, from whose book the introductory quote has been taken, has done a commendable job researching into the violence in Orissa. According to her, the adivasis and other lower caste people of Orissa seldom considered themselves Hindus. In her words, The Paika Bidroha of 1817-1825, the Kol insurrection of 1831-1832, the Kanika agitation of 1921-1922, the Praja Mandal (peasant) Movement of the 1930s and 1940s speak powerfully of Adivasi and subaltern refusal to submit to cultural colonialism and Brahminical imposition (199). Even in the 1990s there were conflicts between the adivasis and the exponents of Hindutva including Lakshmanananda Saraswati (who claimed to be working for the welfare of the adivasis and the lower caste people of Orissa). For example, the RSS and Lakshmanananda Saraswati opposed the adivasis when they fought for indigenous child rights (359). These Hindutva leaders did not want the adivasis to be organised. They opposed the adivasi struggle for Kuidina (a state for themselves). They tried to suppress the Kandhamal Nari Jagaran Samiti and the Kuidina Ekta Samiti. They (the RSS and Lakshmanananda Saraswati) are dangerous people, Chatterji quote some Kui people. They want to kill our people like animals. They do not understand religious differences. They do not understand our connection to our land. We are neither Christians nor Hindus. We are Adivasi. We worship the Earth. There are Christian Kui's. The Mission [church] never forced us to convert. Not in Kandhamal, before or after 1947... (359) Chatterji exposes the myth that the adivasis considered or were eager to consider themselves Hindus. In May 2006, at a convention attended by about 50,000 adivasis, the Bisu Sendra Tribal Council, which serves the tribal communities in Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Orissa, determined to ban Hindu customs and rituals, representations and priests from Adivasi spiritual and religious ceremonies (96). Not different is the case with the lower caste people. Caste oppression has been a bone of contention for long in Orissa as in other parts of India. In Orissa, says Chatterji, Dalit students and teachers have been denied employment and entry into schools and community events, and Dalit community members have been assaulted for participating in Hindu religious ceremonies (69). Chatterji lists a number of incidents to show the disaffection between the people belonging to the higher and lower castes. Such incidents led to the conversion into Buddhism of about 3000 Dalits in Dec 2006. Poverty Poverty also plays its role in this complex issue. Orissa is one of the most backward states in India. In the words of Ramachandra Guha, In 1999 Orissa overtook - if that is the word - Bihar as India's poorest state [India After Gandhi, Picador India, 2007, p.707]. The adivasis and the lower caste people were exploited economically in
Bismillah [IslamCity] The Prophet's Advice
The Prophet's Advice to Mu'aadh Ibn Jabal By: Shaikh Muhammad Ibn Salih al Uthaimeen 'Sharh Riyaadh as-Saaliheen - Chapter: Contemplation [Muraaqaba] Translated by Abu Rumaysah Mu'aadh Ibn Jabal reported from the Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wasalam) that he said, Fear Allah wheresoever you may be, and follow up an evil deed with a good one, it will efface it (the evil deed). And deal with mankind with good manners. Reported by at-Tirmidhee and he said that it was a Hasan hadeeth.[Al-Haakim reports it in al-Mustadrak and states that it meets the conditions of Bukhaaree and Muslim. Adh-Dhahabee agreed.] This hadeeth is one of the Forty Ahaadeeth of the author, may Allah have mercy upon him, and in it is that the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasalam) gave three great and important pieces of advice: THE FIRST: He said, have taqwaa of Allah wheresoever you may be. Taqwaa means to stay away from the forbidden matters and to enact the obligatory matters - this is taqwaa! That you enact what Allah has commanded you, sincerely for Allah and in compliance to the Messenger of Allah (salallahu alayhi wasalam), and that you leave what Allah has forbidden due to His prohibiting it and to steer clear of it. For example that you establish the greatest obligation that Allah has imposed upon you after the testimony of faith - the prayer, and you establish it completely - fulfilling all of its conditions and pillars and obligations, fulfilling all of these perfectly. So whosoever leaves off any of these conditions, pillars or obligations then he has not feared Allah (to the best of his ability), rather he has been deficient in this to the extent of what he left out. In Zakaah, the Taqwaa of Allah lies in your calculating all of your property on which the Zakaah is due, and your giving the Zakaah as a means of purifying yourself without any miserliness or tightfistedness, or delay. And whosoever does not do this than he has not feared Allah. In fasting, the Taqwaa of Allah lies in your establishing the fast as you have been commanded, distancing yourself from idle speech, obscene words and mannerisms, boisterous behavior, backbiting and spreading tales and other such things that would make the fast deficient and remove the spirit of fasting. The true meaning of fasting is to fast from that which Allah, Azza wa Jall, has made forbidden. The same applies to all of the obligations that are used to establish obedience to Allah, and compliance to His command, sincerely for Him and in following His Messenger. Likewise all the forbidden actions are to be left in compliance to His prohibition. THE SECOND: and follow up an evil deed with a good one, it will efface it (the evil deed). Meaning that when you perform an evil action then follow it up with a good action for the good action effaces the evil. And from the good actions to be performed after the evil is that you repent to Allah for this evil action, for indeed repentance is from the most noble and excellent of the good actions as Allah has said, indeed Allah Loves those who repent and those who purify themselves. (2:222) And He said, and repent to Allah all of you, O believers so that you may be successful. (24:31) Similarly righteous actions expiate the evil actions as the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasalam) said, the five daily prayers and one Jumu'ah to the next Jumu'ah, and one Ramadan to the next Ramadan, is an expiation for what lies between them as long as one refrains from the major sins. [Muslim], and he said, one Umrah to the next is an expiation for what is between them. [Bukhaaree]. Therefore, the good actions efface the evil. THE THIRD: and deal with mankind with good manners. The first two pieces of advice were those related to relationship with the Creator, this third relates to relationship of the creation to the creation. This being to deal with mankind with the best manners such that you will be praised and not blamed. This by having a cheerful complexion, being truthful in speech, speaking to others nicely and other such good manners. There are a large number of texts concerning the excellence of having good manners to the extent that the Messenger (salallahu alayhi wasalam) said, the most complete believer with respect to faith is the one with the best manners. And he informed us that the most deserving of mankind to him (salallahu alayhi wasalam) and the closest to him in ranking on the Day of Judgment would be those with the best manners. So noble manners, along with their being a way to beautify gatherings and the person who possesses them being beloved to the people, contain a huge reward which will bestowed upon the person on the Day of Judgment. So preserve these three pieces of advice from the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wasalam) and Allah is the Grantor of Success. 'Uthman ibn 'Affan

Bismillah [IslamCity] How a Muslim Charity became threat to Israel?
How a Muslim Charity became threat to Israel? It's remarkable. My client was convicted of providing charity. There was not, in ten years of wiretapping his home, his office, looking at his faxes, listening to everything he said, there was not one word out of his mouth about violence to anyone or about support for Hamas. He provided charity. That's what he was convicted of. And to say that someone or these people who provide charity should get a sentence six, you know, four or five times longer than someone who professes to come to the United States with a purpose in mind that's clearly violence shows essentially that these people were convicted because they were Palestinians.. - Nancy Hollander aatorney for the former HLF's CEO, Shukri Abu Baker. It took US Justice over seven years to conclude the Israeli charade against the top five officials of America's largest Muslim charity, Holy Land Foundation. A Dallas Federal Court sentenced Holy Land Foundation's Board Chairman, Ghassan Elashi 55, and its CEO, Shukri Abu-Baker 50, each to 65 year in jail. The other three defendants, Mufid Abdulqader 49, Abdulrahman Odeh and Mohammad El-Mezain 55 - were handed over sentences, ranging from 15-20 years in prison. All the five defendants belong to the Palestinian families victimized by the European Jew settlers in the occupied Palestine. All five defendents were previously acquited in 2007 when the radical Zionist Jew Attorney General, Michael Mukasey's (he played a major role in the cover-up of Israeli involvement in the 9/11. He is the second Jewish US Attorney General. Ed Levi served under president Ford in mid-1970s) boys could not sway jurors that the now de-funct charity, based in Richardson, was aiding the Islamic Resistance group Hamas (declared as a terrorist group in 1995 by Washington under AIPAC pressure). However, after the victory of Hamas in 2006, resulting in it formimg government in Gazzah - the Jewish Lobby groups revived the case against the former HLF officials - based on new information provided by Israel's internal service Shin Bet. No evidence that the five defendants ever preached terrorism was submitted the court. The only thing provided to the court was the pictures of the so-called Israeli victims of Palestinian suicide bombing. It was Zionist Steven Emerson, who in his notorious anti-Muslim documentary Jihad in America (1994) claimed that HLF collected funds for Hamas, which was carrying out a resistance to recapture Palestinian stolen land. In the film, the rabit Jew alleged that many mosques and Islamic schools have become the venues of extremist exhortations to carry out Jihad against Jews and Christians (the cunning Jew would not acknowledge the fact that it's his holy Talmud which has been preaching hatred against Jesus, Mary and the Christians for the last 20 centuries). Daniel Pipes, one of America's 12 greatest Islamophobes, has kept his on-going 'Zionist Crusade' against HLF since 1995. Amy Goodman (anti-war Jew activist), host of 'Democracy Now' - interviewed Nancy Hollander and Noor Elashi (daughter of Ghassan Elashi) on May 29, 2009. http://rehmat1.wordpress.com/2009/06/01/how-a-muslim-charity-became-threat-to-israel/

Bismillah [IslamCity] EU sees wide bias against Muslims
EU sees wide bias against Muslims MADRID - Muslims still face substantial discrimination in Europe, especially at work, and many fail to report racist incidents because of a lack of trust in authorities, a European Union human rights agency said Thursday. In a survey of Muslims in 14 EU member states, the Agency for Fundamental Rights said one in three Muslims had faced discrimination, and 11 percent of those questioned said they had experienced a racially motivated crime. The highest level of discrimination against Muslims occurred in the workplace, the agency said. Employment is a key part of the integration process. It is central to the contributions that migrants make to society, and to making such contributions visible. Discrimination may hamper the integration process, agency director Morten Kjaerum said in a statement. The agency urged EU governments to tackle discrimination by making people aware of how to file complaints about discrimination and racism. The report was part of the first-ever EU-wide survey on the experiences of immigrants and ethnic minorities, which reported last month that more than half of those groups believe discrimination is widespread where they live in Europe. Gypsies and Africans reported the most abuse. Thursday's survey suggests similarly high levels of discrimination against Muslims. In line with other minority groups, 79 percent of Muslims responding to the survey said they do not report discriminatory incidents and cases of racist crime to any authority, the agency said. Young Muslims in particular have little faith in the police as a public institution. The survey said people without citizenship and new arrivals in a country were even less likely to report discrimination. It said 59 percent of Muslim respondents believe nothing would happen or change by reporting and 38 percent said it happens all the time and therefore they do not make an effort to report incidents. Truly accessible mechanisms are needed, where victims of racism can report in confidence, said Kjaerum. - AP http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regconcontentID=2009052939351
Bismillah [IslamCity] Iraq-born teen solves 300-year old math puzzle
Finds formula to explain and simplify Bernoulli numbers Iraq-born teen solves 300-year old math puzzle STOCKHOLM (AFP) A 16-year-old Iraqi immigrant living in Sweden was the youngest student to solve a math puzzle that has stumped experts for more than 300 years, Swedish media reported last week. In just four months, Mohamed Altoumaimi found a formula to explain and simplify the so-called Bernoulli numbers, a sequence of calculations connected to numbe theory named after the 17th century Swiss mathematician Jacob Bernoulli, the Dagens Nyheter daily said. Altoumaimi, who came to Sweden six years ago, said teachers at his high school in Falun, central Sweden were not convinced about his work at first. When I first showed it to my teachers, none of them thought the formula I had written down really worked, Altoumaimi told the Falu Kuriren newspaper. He then got in touch with professors at Uppsala University, one of Sweden's top institutions, to ask them to check his work. After going through his notebooks, the professors found his work was indeed correct. Although the Bernoulli numbers formula had previously been solved, Altourmaimi's solution was praised because of his young age and school level, the paper reported. Lindahs said that Altoumaimi is a very gifted student and found it remarkable that a high scool student was able to solve the puzzle. It's really exciting, now all the teachers have come and congratulated me, the teen said of the response to his formula. Altoumaimi plans to take summer classes in advanced mathematics and physics this year. I wanted to be a researcher in physics or mathematics; I really like those subjects. But I have to improve in English and social sciences, he told the Falu Kuriren.

Bismillah [IslamCity] A POWERFUL STORY
A powerful story: Salah and its Importance of Performing it on Time ** * He remembered his grandmother's warning about praying on time: 'My son, you shouldn't leave prayer to this late time'. His grandmother's age was 70 but, whenever she heard the Adhan, she got up like an arrow and performed Salah. He, however could never win over his ego to get up and pray. Whatever he did, his Salah was always the last to be offered and he prayed it quickly to get it in on time. Thinking of this, he got up and realized that there were only 15 minutes left before Salat-ul Isha. He quickly made Wudhu and performed Salat-ul Maghrib. While making Tasbih, he again remembered his grandmother and was embarrassed by how he had prayed. His grandmother prayed with such tranquillity and peace. He began making Dua and went down to make Sajdah and stayed like that for a while. He had been at work all day and was tired, so tired. He awoke abruptly to the sound of noise and shouting. He was sweating profusely. He looked around. It was very crowded. Every direction he looked in was filled with people. Some stood frozen looking around, some were running left and right and some were on their knees with their heads in their hands just waiting. Pure fear and apprehension filled him as he realized where he was. His heart was about to burst. It was the Day of Judgment.. When he was alive, he had heard many things about the questioning on the Day of Judgment, but that seemed so long ago. Could this be something his mind made up? No, the wait and the fear were so great that he could not have imagined this. The interrogation was still going on. He began moving frantically from people to people to ask if his name had been called. No one could answer him. All of a sudden his name was called and the crowd split into two and made a passageway for him. Two angels grabbed his arms and led him forward. He walked with unknowing eyes through the crowd. The angels brought him to the center and left him there. His head was bent down and his whole life was passing in front of his eyes like a movie. He opened his eyes but saw only another world. The people were all helping others. He saw his father running from one lecture to the other, spending his wealth in the way of Islam. His mother invited guests to their house and one table was being set while the other was being cleared. He pleaded his case, 'I too was always on this path. I helped others. I spread the word of Allah. I performed my Salah. I fasted in the month of Ramadhan. Whatever Allah ordered us to do, I did.. Whatever he ordered us not to do, I did not.' He began to cry and think about how much he loved Allah. He knew that whatever he had done in life would be less than what Allah deserved and his only protector was Allah He was sweating like never before and was shaking all over. His eyes were fixed on the scale, waiting for the final decision. At last, the decision was made. The two angels with sheets of paper in their hands, turned to the crowd. His legs felt like they were going to collapse. He closed his eyes as they began to read the names of those people who were to enter Jahannam. His name was read first. He fell on his knees and yelled that this couldn't be, 'How could I go to Jahannam? I served others all my life, I spread the word of Allah to others'. His eyes had become blurry and he was shaking with sweat. The two angels took him by the arms. As his feet dragged, they went through the crowd and advanced toward the blazing flames of Jahannam. He was yelling and wondered if there was any person who was going to help him. He was yelling of all the good deeds he had done, how he had helped his father, his fasts, prayers, the Noble Qur'an that he read, he was asking if none of them would help him. The Jahannam angels continued to drag him. They had gotten closer to the Hellfire. He looked back and these were his last pleas. Had not Rasulullah [SAW] said, 'How clean would a person be who bathes in a river five times a day, so too does the Salah performed five times cleanse someone of their sins'? He began yelling, 'My prayers? My prayers? My prayers.?' The two angels did not stop, and they came to the edge of the abyss of Jahannam. The flames of the fire were burning his face. He looked back one last time, but his eyes were dry of hope and he had nothing left in him. One of the angels pushed him in. He found himself in the air and falling towards the flames. He had just fallen five or six feet when a hand grabbed him by the arm and pulled him back. He lifted his head and saw an old man with a long white beard. He wiped some dust off himself and asked him, 'Who are you?' The old man replied, 'I am your prayers'. 'Why are you so late! I was almost in the Fire! You rescued me at the last minute before I fell in'. The old man smiled and shook his head, 'You always performed me at the last

Wikipedia Scanner outs Vatican, CIA August 17, 2007 a.. New Wiki program tracks and shows edits b.. CIA made changes to Iran President's entry c.. CIA claims vital mission to protect US The CIA has been accused of editing entries on the interactive encyclopedia Wikipedia. Wikipedia Scanner, an online tool, allegedly shows that workers on the agency's computers edited the page of Iran's president, the BBC reported. It also purportedly shows that the Vatican has edited entries about Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams and massaged entries on several Catholic Saints. It is believed the Vatican removed a link to newspaper stories alleging Mr Adams's fingerprints and handprints were found on a car used during a double murder in 1971. On the profile of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the tool indicates a worker on the CIA network reportedly added Wahh! before a section on the leader's plans for his presidency. Though Wikipedia posted a warning on the profile of the anonymous editor saying: You have recently vandalized a Wikipedia article, and you are now being asked to stop this type of behavior, the CIA denied confirming whether the Internet traffic came from any of the agency computers. I cannot confirm that the traffic you cite came from agency computers. I'd like in any case to underscore a far larger and more significant point that no one should doubt or forget: The CIA has a vital mission in protecting the United States, and the focus of this agency is there, on that decisive work, an agency spokesman said. A user at the US Democratic party headquarters was responsible for editing American right-wing radio DJ Rush Limbaugh's entry to describe him as a racist and a bigot, while describing his audience as legally retarded. Other, more innocuous, changes include tweaks to celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey. According to SBS.com, it seems the most widespread changes have been made by the Diebold company, supplier of the infamous voting machines at the centre of the storm surrounding the 2000 US presidential elections. Wikipedia Scanner shows company employees have removed up to 15 paragraphs of content describing its involvement in the controversial 'hanging chad' votes that were not counted in the poll. http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22259259-2,00.html

Bismillah [IslamCity] Part 4: Who are the scholars and from whom should knowledge be taken?
asalamualikum... *Who are the scholars and from whom should knowledge be taken?* by *Shaykh Ahmed Muhammed Al-Munayee حفظه الله* on Sunday, June 18, 2006 http://www.albaseerah.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1910 - They are cautious and take their time before passing any type of religious ruling (fatwa) i.e. they are not hasty. Also, they would prefer that someone else passes a religious ruling instead of themselves, if there is another individual. They are also cautious in the area where they have no knowledge on a particular issue. If at a given moment they do not have at the forefront of their mind the evidence for a particular issue they will refrain from answering. - They are concerned about conveying knowledge and passing it on to others, and also teaching and instructing others in the knowledge that they have been given. - They are preoccupied with knowledge and putting it into practice. - When they deal with knowledge – whether conveying it or acquiring it – they start with that which is most important and then that which is important – there is prioritisation. This is done without becoming bored or tired, although it is something that they do constantly. - They have great concern for the knowledge; and for the areas of Tawheed and the Sunnah – that nothing touches these aspects of our Deen. - They are the ones who stand in defence of the Qur’aan, the Sunnah, and for the Deen in general. - They have humility and fear of Allaah and they depend on Him سبحانه و تعالى and they adhere to whatever He commands. Narrated by ‘Awf ibn Maalik al-Asja’ee رضى الله عنه that: *“The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم once looked at the sky and he صلى الله عليه و سلم said “This seems to be the time of the raising up of knowledge,” so one of them said: “O Messenger of Allaah, how is it that knowledge will be raised up and we have the Book of Allaah and we read it and we study it and we teach it to our children?” The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said: “I used to consider you one of the most knowledgeable people of Ahlul Madinah, didn’t the Jews and Christians have their book with them?[5] Should I not inform you of the first of the knowledge to be raised up?” He صلى الله عليه و سلم said: “khushoo and the fear of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى until you will not see a person having this type of humbleness in a state of fear in times to come”*.”[6] - They put knowledge into practice, so you find the scholar working with the knowledge that he has from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah, and being concerned about it. They practice the optional acts of worship, not to mention the compulsory acts of *eebaadah* (worship). They adhere to all these acts of worship, and they stay away from those things that are disliked and should be shunned. - Their knowledge is in the heart and not on the tongue. Knowledge is of two types: 1. Knowledge on the *tongue* – this is the evidence of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى that is used to convey to the people from the Qur’aan and from the Sunnah. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم mentions in the hadith: *“The Qur’aan is an evidence for or against you.”*[7] 2. Knowledge found in the *heart* – this is the beneficial knowledge. Al-Hasan رحمه الله said that *“Knowledge is of two types, knowledge on the tongue is the evidence of Allaah against the children of Aadam as comes in the hadith: “The Qur’aan is an evidence for or against you.” and knowledge in the heart is the truly beneficial knowledge.”* - They do not try to find an easy life which goes against the Deen and they stay away from innovations and from discussions which have no basis in the Deen. When Ibn Rajab رحمه اللهdealt with the virtue of knowledge of the Salaf over the Khalaf, this is one of the things that he pointed out as one of the characteristics that they (the Scholars) possess. - They try to avoid hasty religious rulings or being involved in passing them. This is an aspect of the Deen which the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم had much concern for – persons who pass religious rulings without being properly qualified. One of the reasons that we find the scholars of the past being very cautious is due to their fear of Allaah سبحانه و تعالى and the caution that they had in respect of their Deen, and a desire to free themselves form the responsibility of the fataawa that would be given. For this reason we find that this was the mannerism of the Sahaabah who were chosen to be the Companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم. They used to try and pass on the fataawa to someone else, who might be more knowledgeable in their eyes to pass religious rulings. Sometimes a person would come into Madinah and he would ask a question, and he would be told to go to someone else, and that person would say to go to someone else and he would go to

Bismillah [IslamCity] Punish wife-beaters, says court president
Punish wife-beaters, says court president By Na'eem Tamim Al-Hakeem RIYADH - Saleh Aaal Al-Sheikh, President of the District Court in Riyadh, has said that any husband who slaps or beats his wife severely should be punished. Al-Sheikh, speaking on the issue following remarks by a Saudi judge earlier this month saying that wives deserved to be slapped by their husbands if they overspent on clothes, said that Islam has honored human beings by protecting them from any assault and abuse. Islam has stipulated the penalties for anyone who commits mistakes. The husband may discipline the wife if she commits a mistake, but that doesn't mean slapping her in the face or beating her cruelly, Al-Sheikh told Okaz newspaper. Some Ulema (religious scholars) have said that he may only discipline her with the Siwak stick (a small twig used as a toothbrush), but slapping in the face is definitely forbidden in all cases, whether the wife is guilty or not, Al-Sheikh said. Domestic violence should be punished by the law, even if the wife withdraws her complaint, he added. Earlier this month Judge Hamad Al-Razine was quoted as saying that a wife who is given SR1,200 and spends SR900 of it on an abaya could be slapped. If her husband slaps her on the face as a reaction to her action, she deserves that punishment, Al-Razine said. The judge made the comments, in which he also stated that women were equally responsible for domestic violence yet escaped blame, at a seminar in Abha for the National Family Safety Program. - Okaz/SG http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regconcontentID=2009052138558

Answer: Praise be to Allaah. This is connected primarily to faith in Allaah. All religions are agreed that it is not permissible for a woman to have intercourse with anyone except her husband. Among these religions are those which are undoubtedly of heavenly origin, such as Islam and the original versions of Judaism and Christianity. Belief in Allaah dictates submission to His rulings and laws, for Allaah is All-Wise and All-Knowing, He knows what is in the best interests of mankind. So we may understand the wisdom behind the ruling of sharee'ah, or we may not be able to grasp it. With regard to the permissibility of multiple spouses for men and its prohibition for women, there are several issues which are obvious to every intelligent person. Allaah has made woman like a vessel, but man is not like that. If a woman becomes pregnant (when she has had intercourse with a number of men at one time), the father can never be known. People's lines of descent and lineage will be mixed up, families will be destroyed and children will be lost. Women will be burdened with so many children that they will be unable to bring them up and spend on their maintenance. Maybe women would find themselves forced to sterilize themselves, which would lead to the extinction of the human race. Moreover it is medically proven now that one of the major causes of the serious diseases which have become widespread, such as AIDS etc., is women having intercourse with more than one man, and the mixing of seminal fluids in the woman's womb causes these lethal diseases. Hence Allaah has prescribed a waiting period ('iddah) for a woman who has been divorced or whose husband has died, until enough time has passed for her womb and passages to be cleansed of any traces of her former husband, and the monthly period also has a role to play in this matter. Perhaps these brief pointers will dispense with the need for a lengthy discussion. If the purpose of the question is research for a university or other assignment, he may refer to the books which have been written on the topic of plural marriage (polygyny) and the wisdom behind it. And Allaah is the Source of strength. Shaykh Sa'd al-Humayd http://www.islamqa.com/en/ref/10009/

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Gravity of Disobedience to Parents
The Prophet (saw) said: Allah defers (the punishment of) whichever sin he wants to the Day of Judgement, except disobedience to parents, for which Allah punishes the sinner in this life before his death. (Al-Hakim)
Bismillah [IslamCity] Virtues of Being Pregnant In Islam
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wet nurse of Ibrahim, the son of the Prophet (peace of and blessings of Allah upon him) said, O Messenger of Allah (saw). You give glad tidings to the men and you do not give tidings to the women. He said, Did your female companions put you up to this? She said, Yes. The Prophet (saw) said: Does it not please one of you that if she is pregnant by her husband and he is pleased with her, that she will have the reward equal to one who fasts during the day and prays Qiyaam (tahajjud) at night for the sake of Allah. When her labor pains (contractions) start, no one in heaven or on earth knows what is concealed in her womb nor the delights (and pleasures) that await her. When she gives birth, not one drop of milk flows from her nor a (child's) suck, except that she will have the reward of 1 hasanah (good deed) for every drop and with every suck. If the baby keeps her awake at night, she will have the reward of freeing 70 slaves for the sake of Allah. O Salaamah, do you know who these women are? They are the chaste and righteous women who are obedient to their husbands and not ungrateful towards them. Bismillah [IslamCity] good story
A churchly choir converted into a caller to Allah At the beginning of his speech about the story of his proselytizing to Islam, he talked about the omnipotence of the creator in the universe. He said: every craft has its craftsman, and every matter has a wise director and this universe is unique in its making with the wisdom of Allah, Glory be to Him, who has created it by His omnipotence and every action in life has a reason so that matters can go on naturally. So, it has become a must for every one in this life to believe in Allah, Glory be to Him, and to know that Allah is the only creator Who has created the universe with all livings and inanimate beings with no help of any other creature. It is the true believer who believes that these creatures need care and protection from earthquake, collapsing, and vanishing and Allah is of infinite bounty, the owner of the world, the most Gracious and merciful, and Who never has a son or wife. He is the Ever-living, the Eternal and the Dominant of that world. And say: praise be to Allah, Who has no partner in sovereignty, nor has He any protecting friend through dependence. And magnify Him with all magnificence. The guided was an acolyte in a church. Muhammad Somawy is from Philipine, he was a Christian and adherent to Christianity to the extent that he was punctual at the times of prayers and hymns hold in the church. He also was a religious choir like his parents who were adherent to their religion. My story with proselytizing. Muhammad Somawy says: my story with proselytizing began in 1990 during the Iraqi invasion against Kuwait and how these actions were a reason for my proselytizing. The base of my doctrine was to believe in Allah. When I was Christian, many questions came to me. I was punctual in attending the Christian religious occasions. In addition, I was a religious choir as a vocalist for the sake of Allah who is, as the Christians think, the Christ; the son of Allah (exalted be Allah above all that) This was the principle of my previous worship and religion, it was that the Christ, Jesus is a God and the son of Allah as I studied and learned from the cradle. But, many question came to me, I was not convinced of what we used to do. And all what I wished from doing this was just to live with them as a catholic Christian. My previous work. I was working as a welder in making the iron windows and doors; in addition to a driver to transport the passengers in return for a little money. It did not come to my mind in any day to go outside Philippine or to Kuwait to work there. I thought that my work would not enable me to work abroad. My sister's travel. For something Allah willed, my sister traveled to Kuwait to work there before the Iraqi invasion. The invasion occurred during her existence and it lasted for seven months. We did not know any thing about her and we became more worried about her, she is the only sister among us and she got a great deal of my parents' love. at that time sadness prevailed all family and my parents became more worried. As a result of the events, we lost the hope that she was alive. I am the oldest brother, so I shoulder the responsibility of searching for her. Was she dead or alive? The matter was not easy and requires asking every one about her. More than this, what could we do if she was dead? And where she was if she was alive? The whole matter belonged to Allah, Glory be to Him. I had to pave the way for my parents if any bad thing happened to my sister. What I did was to calm them and dry up their tears that made me very sad. The most important thing is that we lost the hope that she would come back. The surprise. Nine months after she had traveled - this period is equal to the period of pregnancy- and after the invasion of Iraq had ended, I received a letter, we considered it to be my sister's new birth and her new birth in Islam. On this letter, I found my sister's name before and after adopting Islam. She embraced Islam in that period, what is important is that we became so happy . It was a surprise, what a wonderful surprise! My sister was still alive. My mother wept out of happiness, she thanked Allah Who protected my sister. My sister told us that she was safe, embraced Islam and got married Kuwaiti. But, this matter was not as important as the matter of her being alive. My travel to Kuwait. Two months later, we received another letter from my sister in which she told us that she urgently needed me to travel to Kuwait and to be beside her. Somawy laughed saying that it seems that she desired me to embrace Islam by summoning me to go to her. finally what we got from the message was that she needed me to be beside her. I was ready to stand beside her, I missed her, she was; as I said, my only sister and I have to relieve my worry about her as long as it is available to me. Allah's decree was

Phillip Hitti in 'Short History of the Arabs. During all the first part of the Middle Ages, no other people made as important a contribution to human progress as did the Arabs, if we take this term to mean all those whose mother-tongue was Arabic, and not merely those living in the Arabian peninsula. For centuries, Arabic was the language of learning, culture and intellectual progress for the whole of the civilized world with the exception of the Far East. From the IXth to the XIIth century there were more philosophical, medical, historical, religious, astronomical and geographical works written in Arabic than in any other human tongue. Bismillah [IslamCity] Do Barbers Exist?
Do Barbers Exist? A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: I don't believe that God exists. Why do you say that? asked the customer. Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. If God exists, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things. The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: You know what? Barbers do not exist! How can you say that? asked the surprised barber. I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you! No! the customer exclaimed. Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside. Ah, but barbers do exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me. Exactly! affirmed the customer. That's the point! God, too, does exist! That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to him for help. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world. http://www.turntoislam.com/forum/showthread.php?t=56240 -- My Bangla Blog on Theism-Atheism and Religion: http://www.somewhereinblog.net/blog/smraihan
Bismillah [IslamCity] ruling: To whom does the child of Zina belong
Question # 33591: An illegitimate daughter is asking, Whose daughter am I? Question: I'm an illegitimate child. I was conceived before my mother became Muslim. She became Muslim a few days before my birth. My parents married when I was 10 months old. My parents got divorced 2 years ago, after I disclosed sexual abuse by him. I have used my father's name since I was born and he has always accepted paternity of me. Do I need to change my name to my mother's name? I am 14 year old and have five siblings, all with my father's name. I read the answers on this site and all seemed to say that I should, but one answer by Shaykh 'Abd-Allah ibn Jibreen seemed to say the opposite. (Question Reference Number 5967) He stated that if the father accepts paternity, it is permissible to retain his name. Please clarify this issue for me. Answer: Praise be to Allaah. Firstly: we confirm that the illegitimate child has nothing to do with his parents' crime, and that he has all the same rights as any other Muslim, male or female. He must also fear Allaah so that he may become one of the people of Paradise with whom Allaah is pleased. Secondly: the scholars differed as to whether or not the child may be attributed to his adulterous father, if the woman was not married. What that means is: if the woman was married and had a child six months after being married, then the child should be attributed to the father, and he cannot deny the child unless he divorces his wife by means of li'aan. If a man claims that he committed zina with this woman and that this is his illegitimate child, no attention should be paid to him, according to scholarly consensus, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, The child is to be attributed to the husband and the adulterer deserves nothing. Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 2053; Muslim, 1457. Ibn Qudaamah said: The scholars were unanimously agreed that if a child is born to one man's wife, and another man claims it is his child, the child is not to be attributed to the latter. The difference of opinion arises when a child is born outside of marriage. If the woman is not married, and she has a child as a result of zina, and the zaani (adulterer, man who committed zina) claims it is his child, should the child be attributed to him or not? The majority of scholars are of the view that the child should not be attributed to him. It was narrated from al-Hasan, Ibn Sireen, 'Urwah, al-Nakha'i, Ishaaq and Sulaymaan ibn Yassaar that the child should be attributed to him. This was also the view favoured by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him). Ibn Qudaamah also narrated this view from Abu Haneefah. He said: 'Ali ibn 'Aasim narrated that Abu Haneefah said: If a man commits zina with a woman and she gets pregnant from him, I do not see anything wrong with him marrying her even though she is pregnant, so as to conceal her (sin), and the child will be his child. (al-Mughni, 9/122). Ibn Muflih (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Our shaykh [Ibn Taymiyah] favoured the view that a man may attribute to himself a child who is the result of zina with an unmarried woman. al-Furoo', 6/625 Ibn Qudaamah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: The illegitimate child should not be attributed to the zaani according to the majority of scholars, but al-Hasan and Ibn Sireen said: he may be attributed to the zaani if the hadd punishment has been carried out on him, and he may inherit from him. Ibraaheem said: He may be attributed to him if the hadd punishment of flogging has been carried out, or if he becomes the owner of the woman with whom he had intercourse. Ishaaq said: He may be attributed to him, and he quoted something similar from 'Urwah and Sulaymaan ibn Yassaar. Shaykh al-Islam (Ibn Taymiyah) said: There are also two views among the scholars concerning the zaani claiming the child as his if the woman is not married. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: The child is to be attributed to the husband and the adulterer deserves nothing. So he said that the child belongs to the husband, not the zaani. But if the woman is not married then this hadeeth is not applicable. 'Umar attributed children born in the jaahiliyyah to their fathers, but this is not the place to discuss this issue in detail. Al-Fataawa al-Kubra, 3/178 The majority of scholars quoted as evidence that the illegitimate child should not be attributed to the zaani the hadeeth narrated by Ahmad (7002), Abu Dawood (2265) and Ibn Maajah (2746) from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ruled that whoever is born to a slave woman who was not owned by his father, or (was born to) a free woman with whom (the father) committed zina, then he cannot be attributed to him nor can he inherit, even if the one to whom he is
Bismillah [IslamCity] How To Erase Sins Raise Your Status
The Prophet (saw) asked: Shall I not tell you of something by means of which Allah erases sins and raises you in status? They (the Companions) replied: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. This is equivalent to guarding/defending the frontiers (of Islam). (Muslim)
Bismillah [IslamCity] Somalia: Foregin Fighters in Somalia Are 'International Criminals', President Shekh Sharif Ahmed
Somalia: Foreign Fighters in Somalia Are 'International Criminals' - President 25 May 2009 The president of Somalia's interim government, Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, told a Monday press conference in the capital Mogadishu that foreign fighters in the Horn of Africa country are 'international criminals,' Radio Garowe reports. Somalia has been invaded by foreign fighters, who are using Somali factions and their objective is to keep the country in chaos and to hide international criminals, President Sheikh Sharif told reporters at the Villa Somalia presidential compound. He called on the Somali public to stand by the government in order to defend the freedom, honor and nationhood of Somalia, adding: I do not see any reason to continue fighting except to oppose peace. The Somali leader said the interim government has adopted Islamic law [Shari'ah] as national legislation and has accepted a reconciliation process promoted by Muslim scholars and traditional elders, but the opposition has rejected reconciliation. He condemned the foreign fighters, suggesting that these foreign fighters have fought in countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq, which are still burning. Conflicting reports have placed the actual number of 'foreign fighters' present in Somalia from a handful to over 300 fighters. The [Somali] government has decided to defend the honor of the country and the people...we will fight those who oppose governance and those who promote chaos, President Sheikh Sharif said, in some of his most heated comments since being elected in January. African peacekeepers The Somali President said the ongoing violence in Mogadishu and parts of central Somalia is part of a liberation war against anti-peace elements. He specifically addressed a recent decision by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to place sanctions on Eritrea, which is often accused arming Somali insurgents. It was the correct decision and the world must support it, said President Sheikh Sharif, who fled to Eritrea in 2007 after Ethiopian troops intervened in south-central Somalia to oust the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) movement, led by Sheikh Sharif at the time. Speaking about the 4,000-strong African Union peacekeeping force (AMISOM), the President said: AMISOM is here [in Mogadishu] legally and they will leave when they ensure the safety of the Somali people. He noted that African peacekeepers are serving in Somalia to help a fellow African country, while underscoring that AMISOM peacekeepers will defend the Somali government if attacked. President Sheikh Sharif did not specifically name anti-government insurgent groups, namely Al Shabaab hardliners and Hizbul Islam faction, which is led by his former ally, Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys. Al Shabaab and Hizbul Islam factions have waged a violent campaign in Mogadishu and the central regions aiming to overthrow President Sheikh Sharif's interim government, which has support from ICU fighters and Ahlu Sunnah Wal Jamee'a militia. Bismillah [IslamCity] Boycott Israel campaign starts to bite
Boycott Israel campaign starts to bite 9 May 2009 Motorola, Caterpillar, Veolia, the Tesco supermarket chain, and other companies across the world that do business with Israel are suffering losses due to a global boycott in support of Palestinian rights. On May 4, protesters greeted Motorola shareholders, already disgruntled by the company's losses, as they arrived for their annual meeting at the Rosemont Theater in Chicago. The protest, organised by the US Campaign to End the Israeli Occupation, is part of a drive to Hang Up On Motorola until it ends sales of communications and other products that support Israel's military occupation of Palestinian land. Inside the meeting, the Presbyterian, United Methodist and other churches urged shareholders to support their resolution, which calls for corporate standards grounded in international law. Doing the right thing could also reduce the risk of consumer boycotts, divestment campaigns and lawsuits. Although Motorola executives deny it, such risks must have played a part in their decision to sell the department making bomb fuses shortly after Human Rights Watch teams found shrapnel with Motorola serial numbers at some of the civilian sites bombed by Israel in its December-January assault on Gaza. The US protests are part of a growing global movement that has taken international law into its own hands because governments have not. And, especially since the attacks on Gaza, the boycotts have been biting. There are three reasons why. First, boycotts enable ordinary citizens to take direct action. For instance, the New York group Adalah decided to target diamond merchant Lev Leviev, whose profits are plowed into colonising the West Bank. During the Christmas season, they sing carols with the words creatively altered to urge shoppers to boycott his Madison Avenue store. The British group Architects and Planners for Justice in Palestine teamed up with Adalah and others to exert public pressure on the British government regarding Leviev. The British Embassy in Tel Aviv recently cancelled plans to rent premises from Leviev's company Africa-Israel. There are other results. Activists in Britain have targeted the supermarket chain Tesco to stop the sales of Israeli goods produced in settlements. In a video of one action - over 38,000 YouTube views to date - Welsh activists load up a trolley with settlement products and push it out of the shop without paying. All the while, they calmly explain to the camera just what they are doing and why, as they pour red paint over the produce - and as British Bobbies quietly lead them away to a police van. The result of such consumer boycotts? A fifth of Israeli producers have reported a drop in demand since the assault on Gaza, particularly in Britain and Scandinavia. The second reason boycotts are effective is the visible role of Jewish human rights advocates, making it harder for Israel to argue that these actions are anti-Semitic. For example, British architect Abe Hayeem, an Iraqi Jew, describes in a passionate column in the British Guardian exactly how Leviev tramples on Palestinian rights, and warns Israeli architects involved in settlements that they will be held to account by their international peers. In the US, Jewish Voice for Peace has led an ongoing campaign to stop Caterpillar from selling bulldozers to Israel, which militarises them and uses them in home demolitions and building the separation wall. The third, key, reason for the growing success of this global movement is the determined leadership of Palestinian civil society. The spark was lit at the world conference against racism in Durban in 2001. In 2004, Palestinian civil society launched an academic and cultural boycott that is having an impact. In 2005, over 170 Palestinian civil society coalitions, organisations, and unions from the occupied territories, within Israel, and in exile issued a formal call for an international campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) until Israel abides by international law. The call sets out clear goals for the movement and provides a framework for action. In November 2008, Palestinian NGOs helped convene an international BDS conference in Bilbao, Spain, to adopt common actions. This launched a Derail Veolia campaign. The French multinational corporation, together with another French company, Alstom, is building a light railway linking East Jerusalem to illegal settlements. The light rail project was cited by the Swedish national pension fund in its decision to exclude Alstom from its US$15 billion portfolio, and by the Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council in its decision not to further consider Veolia's bid for a $1.9 billion waste improvement plan. There were active grassroots campaigns in both areas. Other hits: Veolia lost the contract to operate the city of Stockholm subway and an urban network in Bordeaux. Although

Bismillah [IslamCity] Part 3: Who are the scholars and from whom should knowledge be taken?
asalamualikum... *Who are the scholars and from whom should knowledge be taken?* by *Shaykh Ahmed Muhammed Al-Munayee حفظه الله* on Sunday, June 18, 2006 http://www.albaseerah.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1910 *Mujtahid al-Muqayyid* – Those restricted in their *ijtihaad*. We have the second group which is below the first. It is the level of the *mujtahid al-muqayyid* i.e. one who is *limited* in his *ijtihaad*. He benefits from the different opinions that we have, and also perhaps from his madhab, from the principles of Islaamic Jurisprudence and the discussions in the other branches of learning. He uses these to draw analogies to help him deal with different circumstances. He does not necessarily have a lot of evidences and he is not just blindly-following an individual. His ability is limited. This person normally invites to *his* madhab (words unclear) and they are of different levels. For this reason the madhaahib (schools of thought) that we have legally, although they have different deductions in terms of law, they are all taken from the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم and also there is the ijmaa’ of the People of Knowledge which is used in terms of evidences. *Mujtahid * There is a third level – the *mujtahid* who is actually *following a specific imaam*. At this level the individual usually takes from a particular scholar and normally does not go beyond the imaam that he takes from. *Other than them* We have another level and this is for those individuals who attribute themselves to knowledge generally, but they have not attained a level of those previously discussed. They are *Students of Knowledge* they go out and they seek knowledge but their status or the level that they have attained, is not the level of *ijtihaad*. Then there is another level – those taking from different aspects of learning. There are some students of knowledge who are seasoned in their development of Islaamic learning. There are those who are intermediate and those who are beginners. Those are two different levels also. There are also some of the People of Knowledge who specialize in one area of learning as opposed to another area of Islaamic learning e.g. hadith, tafsir or *Fiqh*. *Characteristics of the Scholars* The scholars that *should be followed* have certain qualities and characteristics that *set them apart* from others. These qualities are as follows: - Memorization of the Qur’aan – from the heart. - Memorization of the pure Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم - They have knowledge and understanding from the *Fiqh* of the companions of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم and the textual evidences from the Book and the Sunnah. They have knowledge of the understanding of the Sahaabah which the Sahaabah took from the Qur’aan and the Sunnah. - In spite of these scholars having understanding of the Qur’aan and the Sunnah they take the *Fiqh* of the Sahaabah and utilize it. - They honour the knowledge of the Qur’aan and the Sunnah of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم, holding it in high esteem. They also honour the Sahaabah and recognize their station; and they honour those that preceded them in knowledge from amongst the Salaf and considered their opinion also. - They stop wherever the evidence stops. Once there is evidence they leave aside their own opinions and statements and they adhere to the truth, whatever it may be. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah رحمه الله points out: *“This group is stationery wherever the daleel (evidence) is stationery and they move with the daleel wherever the daleel moves. Once there is evidence they adhere to it and take it and they go to it collectively and individually.” * The textual evidences are more magnificent in their hearts than the statements of anyone else. They do not put any analogy or opinion before the textual evidence. -- Masjid Ahlul-Quraan wa As-Sunnah of New york http://www.seekknowledge.org http://www.albaseerah.org
Bismillah [IslamCity] Why Was the Quran Revealed in Arabic?
Quran (41:44) If we made it a non-Arabic Quran they would have said, Why did it come down in that language? Whether it is Arabic or non-Arabic, say, For those who believe, it is a guide and healing. As for those who disbelieve, they will be deaf and blind to it, as if they are being addressed from faraway. We learn from 41:44 that the sincere believers have access to the Quran, regardless of their mother tongue. The disbelievers, on the other hand, are not permitted access to the Quran, even if they are professors of the Arabic language (17:45, 18:57, 41:44, 56:79). Arabic is the most efficient language in the world, especially when it comes to the precise statement of laws. Since the Quran is a Statute Book, it was crucial that such laws must be clearly stated. God chose Arabic for His Final Testament because of the obvious reason that it is the most suitable language for that purpose. Arabic is unique in its efficiency and accuracy. For example, the word they in English does not tell you if they are males or females. In Arabic there is a they for the males, HUM, and a they for the females, HUNNA. For two females, instead of these or those there is HAATAAN and for the two males HAATHAN. This feature does not exist in any other language in the world. I came to appreciate this efficiency of the Arabic language when I translated, for example, 2:228. This verse enjoins the divorcee to give up her own wishes to divorce her husband, if she discovers that she is pregnant, and the husband wishes to reconcile - the welfare of the child takes a priority. The efficiency of the Arabic language was extremely helpful in stating this law. Any other language would have made it almost impossible to point out whose wishes are to be superseded, at least not in such a few words as we see in 2:228. The word Qaalataa of 28:23, for example, translates into four English words: the two women said. Such is the efficiency of the Arabic language. Another possible reason for choosing Arabic is the fact that He and She do not necessarily imply natural gender. Thus, when God is referred to as He, this does not imply gender at all. God be glorified; He is neither male, nor female. The usage of He to refer to God in the English language, for example, has contributed to a false image of God. This was not helped by such distorted expressions as Father when referring to God. You never find such a reference to God in the Quran. Praise be to God, Lord of the Universe. Bismillah [IslamCity] hadith: A child of zina (adultery, fornication)
Fornication (unmarried people) Narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawood and Ibn Maajah from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) ruled that whoever is born to a slave woman who was not owned by his father, or (was born to) a free woman with whom (the father) committed zina, then he cannot be attributed to him nor can he inherit, even if the one to whom he is attributed claims him as a son. He is the child of fornication whether his mother was a free woman or a slave. Ahmad (7002), Abu Dawood (2265) and Ibn Maajah (2746) Adultery (married people) The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, The child is to be attributed to the husband and the adulterer deserves nothing. Bismillah [IslamCity] How M15 blackmails british muslims
FW *How MI5 blackmails British Muslims* *'Work for us or we will say you are a terrorist'* By Robert Verkaik, Law Editor The Independent Thursday, 21 May 2009 Five Muslim community workers have accused MI5 of waging a campaign of blackmail and harassment in an attempt to recruit them as informants. The men claim they were given a choice of working for the Security Service or face detention and harassment in the UK and overseas. They have made official complaints to the police, to the body which oversees the work of the Security Service and to their local MP Frank Dobson. Now they have decided to speak publicly about their experiences in the hope that publicity will stop similar tactics being used in the future. Intelligence gathered by informers is crucial to stopping further terror outrages, but the men's allegations raise concerns about the coercion of young Muslim men by the Security Service and the damage this does to the gathering of information in the future. Three of the men say they were detained at foreign airports on the orders of MI5 after leaving Britain on family holidays last year. After they were sent back to the UK, they were interviewed by MI5 officers who, they say, falsely accused them of links to Islamic extremism. On each occasion the agents said they would lift the travel restrictions and threat of detention in return for their co-operation. When the men refused some of them received what they say were intimidating phone calls and threats. Two other Muslim men say they were approached by MI5 at their homes after police officers posed as postmen. Each of the five men, aged between 19 and 25, was warned that if he did not help the security services he would be considered a terror suspect. A sixth man was held by MI5 for three hours after returning from his honeymoon in Saudi Arabia. He too claims he was threatened with travel restrictions if he tried to leave the UK. An agent who gave her name as Katherine is alleged to have made direct threats to Adydarus Elmi, a 25-year-old cinema worker from north London. In one telephone call she rang him at 7am to congratulate him on the birth of his baby girl. His wife was still seven months' pregnant and the couple had expressly told the hospital that they did not want to know the sex of their child. Mr Elmi further alleges: Katherine tried to threaten me by saying, and it still runs through my mind now: 'Remember, this won't be the last time we ever meet.' And then during our last conversation she explained: 'If you do not want anything to happen to your family you will co-operate.' Madhi Hashi, a 19-year-old care worker from Camden, claims he was held for 16 hours in a cell in Djibouti airport on the orders of MI5. He alleges that when he was returned to the UK on 9 April this year he was met by an MI5 agent who told him his terror suspect status would remain until he agreed to work for the Security Service. He alleges that he was to be given the job of informing on his friends by encouraging them to talk about jihad. Mohamed Nur, 25, a community youth worker from north London, claims he was threatened by the Security Service after an agent gained access to his home accompanied by a police officer posing as a postman. The MI5 agent said, 'Mohamed if you do not work for us we will tell any foreign country you try to travel to that you are a suspected terrorist.' Mohamed Aden, 25, a community youth worker from Camden, was also approached by someone disguised as a postman in August last year. He alleges an agent told him: We're going to make your travelling harder for you if you don't co-operate. None of the six men, who work with disadvantaged youths at the Kentish Town Community Organisation (KTCO), has ever been arrested for terrorism or a terrorism-related offence. They have repeatedly complained about their treatment to the police and to the Investigatory Powers Tribunal, which oversees the work of the Security Services. In a letter to Lord Justice Mummery, who heads the tribunal, Sharhabeel Lone, the chairman of the KTCO, said: The only thing these young people have in common is that they studied Arabic abroad and are of Somali origin. They are not involved in any terrorist activity whatsoever, nor have they ever been, and the security services are well aware of this. Mr Sharhabeel added: These incidents smack of racism, Islamophobia and all that undermines social cohesion. Threatening British citizens, harassing them in their own country, alienating young people who have committed no crime other than practising a particular faith and being a different colour is a recipe for disaster. These disgraceful incidents have undermined 10 years of hard work and severely impacted social cohesion in Camden. Targeting young people that are role models for all young people in our country in such a disparaging way demonstrates a total lack of understanding of on-the-ground reality and can only be counter-productive. When people are
Bismillah [IslamCity] Leader boycotts trade with Israel
Leader boycotts trade with Israel 13 Jan 2009 Leader of the Islamic Revolution Seyyed Ali Khamenei says all Muslims should avoid buying or promoting any Israeli-linked product. Since the Zionists are now at war with Islam, Muslims should avoid any action which might bring them [Israelis] profit, Ayatollah Khamenei said Tuesday. Israel launched Operation Cast Lead on Dec. 27 against the Gaza Strip to put an end to rocket attacks against its southern towns. At least 940 Palestinians have been killed and some 4,100 others have been wounded in the Israeli offensive. Hamas, the democratically-elected ruler of the strip, demands a cessation of an 18-month Israeli blockade on the impoverished coastal sliver before its fighters suspend retaliatory rocket attacks. Ayatollah Khamenei urged Muslims to refrain from any business transaction which could benefit the enemies of Islam. The purchase, import, re-import and promotion of any product whose profits will be given to Israeli occupiers directly or indirectly is forbidden [by Islamic decree] and Muslims are prohibited from doing so, the Leader said. http://www.presstv.com/detail.aspx?id=82061sectionid=351020101

Bismillah [IslamCity] Grand Mufti: Islamic Ummah at a crossroads
Grand Mufti: Islamic Ummah at a crossroads JEDDAH – Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Aal-Al Sheikh said here Saturday that the Ummah was at a crossroads, either it accepts Islam as a belief and sticks to it properly or surrender to the enemies and their conspiracies. Addressing the 8th Islamic Conference of the Islamic Affairs Ministers, the Grand Mufti said the contemporary world was losing security in its broad meaning. Security is one of the greatest demands of life and necessity for all societies, he stressed. The Grand Mufti called upon the participants to reform their societies, care for the Ummah and its interest, defend its causes and protect its principles. He said the Ummah was an inseparable part of the world thus it was suffering from the alliance of the foes and their attacks against Islam. He also highlighted the intellectual weakness which some of the sons of the Faith were suffering, necessitating the Ummah to unify its ranks and work hand-in-hand to rescue itself. The conference titled “Intellectual Security and the Role of the Ministries of Islamic Affairs in Achieving it,” is being held under the patronage of King Abdullah, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques. Addressing the inaugural session, Abdul Aziz Bin Abdul Rahman Al-Sabhain, Conference’s Secretary General, said the conference reaffirms the sincere desire for communication and consultation so as to achieve the Islamic solidarity and spread the call of Almighty Allah. It comes at a delicate time beset with challenges posed by some powers advocating alien cultures and ideologies which have no root in Islam so as to corrupt the minds of the young Muslim generation, a matter that doubles the responsibility of the Ministries of the Islamic Affairs in the Islamic world. He also referred to the decisions taken in the previous endowment conferences which touched on issues pertaining to the Islamic call and the influencing aspects in the life of the Ummah such as education. He stressed the important role of the Ministries of the Islamic Affairs in correcting the misconceptions about Islam and advocating the genuine Islamic principles derived from the Holy Qur’an and Prophet’s Sunna. http://www.saudigazette.com.sa/index.cfm?method=home.regconcontentID=2009052438862

Bismillah [IslamCity] India-China Border Dispute
Globalsecurity.org The McMahon Line boundary dispute is at the heart of relations between China and India. China has land and sea boundary issues with 14 neighbors, mostly for historical reasons. The Chinese have two major claims on what India deems its own territory. One claim, in the western sector, is on Aksai Chin in the northeastern section of Ladakh District in Jammu and Kashmir. The other claim is in the eastern sector over a region included in the British-designated North-East Frontier Agency, the disputed part of which India renamed Arunachal Pradesh and made a state. In the fight over these areas in 1962, the well-trained and well-armed troops of the Chinese People's Liberation Army overpowered the ill-equipped Indian troops, who had not been properly acclimatized to fighting at high altitudes. In the early 20th Century Britain sought to advance its line of control and establish buffer zones around its colony in South Asia. In 1913-1914 representatives of China, Tibet and Britain negotiated a treaty in India: the Simla Convention. Sir Henry McMahon, the foreign secretary of British India at the time, drew up the 550 mile (890 km) McMahon Line as the border between British India and Tibet during the Simla Conference. The so-called McMahon Line, drawn primarily on the highest watershed principle, demarcated what had previously been unclaimed or undefined borders between Britain and Tibet. The McMahon line moved British control substantially northwards. The Tibetan and British representatives at the conference agreed to the line, which ceded Tawang and other Tibetan areas to the imperial British Empire. However the Chinese representative refused to accept the line. Peking claimed territory in this far north down to the border of the plain of Assam. The land is mostly mountainous with Himalayan ranges along the northern borders criss-crossed with mountain ranges running north-south. These divide the state into five river valleys: the Kameng, the Subansiri, the Siang, the Lohit and the Tirap. High mountains and dense forests have prevented intercommunication between tribes living in different river valleys. The geographical isolation thus imposed has led different tribes to elove their own dialects and grow with their distinct identities. Nature has endowed the Arunachal people with a deep sense of beauty which finds delightful expression in their songs, dances and crafts. A slow forward move towards the McMahon Line was begun on the ground, to establish a new de facto boundary. The McMahon Line was then forgotten until about 1935 when the British government decided to publish the documents in the 1937 edition of Aitchison's Collection of Treaties. The NEFA (North East Frontier Agency) was created in 1954. On 7 November 1959, Chou En-lai proposed that both sides should withdraw their troops twenty kilometres from the McMahon line. The issue was quiet during the decade of cordial Sino-Indian relations, but erupted again during the Sino-Indian War of 1962. During the 1962 war, the PRC captured most of the NEFA. However, China soon declared victory and voluntarily withdrew back to the McMahon Line. China is in occupation of approximately 38,000 sq. kms of Indian territory in Jammu and Kashmir. In addition, under the so-called China-Pakistan Boundary Agreement of 1963, Pakistan ceded 5,180 sq. kms. of Indian territory in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir to China. China claims approximately 90,000 sq. kms. of Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh and about 2000 sq. kms. in the Middle Sector of the India-China boundary. Beijing has stated that it does not recognise Arunachal Pradesh. The border between China and India has never been officially delimited. China's position on the eastern part of the border between the two countries is consistent. Not a single Chinese government recognizes the illegal McMahon Line. For China, the McMahon Line, stands as a symbol of imperialist aggression on the country. The so-called Arunachal Pradesh dispute is China's most intractable border issue. Because the gap between the positions of China and India is wide, it is difficult for both nations to reach consensus. The area of this disputed region is three times that of Taiwan, six times that of Beijing and ten times that of the Malvenas islands, disputed by Britain and Argentina. It is flat and rich in water and forest resources. Arunachal Pradesh is the only issue which has a potential for conflict between India and China. If ever, India and China go to war one day, it will be on this issue. India considers recurring Sino-Indian border clashes a potential threat to its security. Since the war, each side continued to improve its military and logistics capabilities in the disputed regions. China has continued its occupation of the Aksai Chin area, through which it built a strategic highway linking Xizang and Xinjiang autonomous regions. China had a vital military interest in maintaining control over this region, whereas
Bismillah [IslamCity] Nakba at 61 --Palestinian tragedy
Dear members, Assalamu Alaikum. Please read this tragic story. Shah Abdul Hannan _ Nakba at 61 http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2009/948/re3.htm While its founders believed that the violence and racism at the heart of Israel's birth would be forgotten, it isn't and never will be, writes Khaled Amayreh in occupied Jerusalem _ As they do every year, Palestinians on both sides of the Green Line that separates the West Bank and East Jerusalem from Israel have been commemorating the passage of 61 years since mainly East-European Zionist Jews created the Jewish state on 78 per cent of the Palestinian national homeland. This year, the commemoration affirmed a renewed determination to uphold the right of return for as many as five million Palestinian refugees whose forefathers were expelled from -- and often massacred into fleeing -- their ancestral motherland. Al-Ahram Weekly spoke to some elderly Palestinians who survived the Nakba, or catastrophe, which a growing number of Palestinians are now referring to as the Palestinian holocaust. Mohamed Abu Sharar, who fought alongside the Egyptian army outside the village of Falluja under the command of Gamal Abdel-Nasser, vividly remembers the massacre of his fellow villagers at Al-Dawayema, a few kilometres southwest of Falluja. The Jews killed anyone they saw, they broke the heads of children, cut open the bellies of women with bayonets. They even raped some women before murdering them, said the now 100 years old Abu Sharar. He tearfully recounted how Israeli soldiers mercilessly massacred dozens of fleeing families that had found shelter at a cave outside Al-Dawayema. The Jews ordered them to come out of the cave and get into a row and start walking. And when they started walking, they sprayed them with machinegun fire from two sides, annihilating them all. A woman who pretended to be dead survived. The same fate met some 75 elderly Sufis who had come to the local mosque, known as Masjid Al-Darawish. A contingent of Israeli soldiers arrived at the mosque shortly before Friday's congregational prayer, and riddled all 75 with bullets. Not a single one escaped death. The Weekly asked the century-old Palestinian what was his wish after all these years. My wish has remained unchanged, it is to return to my village, to die and be buried there. Asked if he would accept compensation for his lost property at the village of Al-Dawayema, Abu Sharar said: It is not a matter of property and compensation. This is my country, my history, my home, my childhood memories. My father is buried there, so is his father and grandfather. Would you trade the grave of your father for all the money in the world? The last phrase is what irks the Israelis more than anything else. To be sure, in 1948, both Arabs and Jews miscalculated. The Arabs never thought in their worst nightmares that things would turn out as they have; that Israel would take over the rest of Palestine and the refugees' exile would continue so long. Similarly, the Zionist leadership, mesmerised by arrogance and self-absorption, never thought that the refugees' plight would continue to be relevant 61 years later. Some Israeli leaders thought the old would die, and the young would forget. Today, with hopes for a just peace in Palestine dissipating, Palestinians are more determined than ever to cling to the right of return as the soul and heart of their enduring cause. Moreover, many Palestinians consider the right of return as a moral asset of immense and sacred importance. A few years ago, particularly during the height of the false euphoria accompanying the Oslo peace process, some Palestine Liberation Organisation figures showed a certain willingness to compromise the right of return. Indeed, some Palestinian Authority (PA) officials went as far as reaching and signing understandings with Israeli figures that implicitly recognised that the refugees wouldn't be able to return to their homes in what is now Israel in the context of any final status settlement between Israel and the PA. Now, thanks to the failure of the peace process and also to Hamas's strong standing in the Palestinian national arena, no Palestinian leader or official dares utter a word that might suggest a willingness to compromise on the right of return, as this would be political suicide, both for individuals and political factions. With the right of return becoming a conspicuous feature of Palestinian national discourse, some Israeli leaders are trying nervously to cut that right by force. Last week, the extremist party of Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Yisrael Beiteinu, proposed a ban on the commemoration of the Nakba by the 1.5 million Palestinians who are Israeli citizens. The proposal drew angry reaction from Palestinian leaders inside Israel, with Arab Knesset member Ahmed Teibi calling it a pathetic attempt to deny history. Instead of coming to terms with historical facts, the fascists in Israel are trying obliterate

The JCMOE wishes them success in implementing the Manifesto of the party and completing the unfinished agenda of the last term. The JCMOE, however, regrets, the poor representation of the Muslim community in the newly elected Parliament and attributes it to the low number of Muslim candidates fielded by the secular parties, the competition among secular parties for Muslim votes and division of Muslim votes at the constituency level on the basis of sects and 'baradaris'. The JCMOE feels that our democratic and order secular will shine only when Muslims and other religious minorities are fully represented in the political system. Bismillah [IslamCity] The Voting for Sharia in Somalia
The Voting for Sharia in Somalia Anwar alAwlaki - April-20-2009 The Somali parliament has voted unanimously for the implementation of Sharia which is seen as good news by many in the Muslim world - and it is - as it reflects the desire of the Somali people to live by the laws of Allah. However there are some issues that need to be highlighted. First, there is a fundamental problem with the procedure in which the decision was made. The law of Allah should not be voted over. To give the people the choice whether to apply Sharia or not reflects a fundamental problem in the understanding of Tawhid. Allah says: But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith, until they make you (O Muhammad SAW) judge in all disputes between them, and find in themselves no resistance against your decisions, and accept (them) with full submission. (An-Nisa 4:65) So people cannot be believers until they submit to the law of Allah and accept it without any reservations. The Islamic government exists to impose Sharia rather than submit it to a vote. Therefore a government that declares that it will accept the results of a vote for Sharia, even if the results are not to implement it, is by necessity a non-Islamic government. Second, the Sharif government is using its application of Sharia to convince the other resistance groups to lay down their arms and join the government. But from a Sharia point of view the objectives of the Jihad in Somalia have not been achieved yet and therefore the Jihad of these groups needs to carry on. Yes, the implementation of Sharia is the most important of these objectives, however, the Sharif government cannot be seen as a valid government for three main reasons. The first: Just as it applied Sharia by a vote it could dismantle Sharia by a vote. They have not implemented Sharia as a matter of principle but because it is the will of the people and therefore the Sharif government is closer to being a democratic government than it being an Islamic one. Second: The Sharif government is still allowing the existence of a foreign invading force represented in the forces of the African Union. The Jihad in Somalia should carry on until the last AU soldier leaves the country and any forces that side with the AU -including the Sharif government- become legitimate targets. And third: The Sharif government is basing its foreign relations with the outside world on a nationalistic basis rather that an Islamic one. The support it receives from the US, the EU and the UN is a reflection of it being a tool to advance the imperialistic interests of the West and to eradicate the strong Jihad movement in the country. Therefore, even though it is good news for the ummah that Sharia will be implemented again in Somalia but we should not see this as an end to the struggle to establish an Islamic state and community and to free the country from foreign intervention and corruption. http://www.anwar-alawlaki.com/?p=119
Bismillah [IslamCity] Ohio Christian school tells student to skip prom
Anyone who promotes righteousness is branded a fundamentalist, extremist, etc. No wonder more Muslims are branded this title so often. Ohio Christian school tells student to skip prom May 8, 2009 FINDLAY, Ohio - A student at a fundamentalist Baptist school that forbids dancing, rock music, hand-holding and kissing will be suspended if he takes his girlfriend to her public high school prom, his principal said. Despite the warning, 17-year-old Tyler Frost, who has never been to a dance before, said he plans to attend Findlay High School's prom Saturday. Frost, a senior at Heritage Christian School in northwest Ohio, agreed to the school's rules when he signed a statement of cooperation at the beginning of the year, principal Tim England said. The teen, who is scheduled to receive his diploma May 24, would be suspended from classes and receive an incomplete on remaining assignments, England said. Frost also would not be permitted to attend graduation but would get a diploma once he completes final exams. If Frost is involved with alcohol or sex at the prom, he will be expelled, England said. Frost's stepfather Stephan Johnson said the school's rules should not apply outside the classroom. He deserves to wear that cap and gown, Johnson said. Frost said he thought he had handled the situation properly. Findlay requires students from other schools attending the prom to get a signature from their principal, which Frost did. I expected a short lecture about making the right decisions and not doing something stupid, Frost said. I thought I would get his signature and that would be the end. England acknowledged signing the form but warned Frost there would be consequences if he attended the dance. England then took the issue to a school committee made up of church members, who decided to threaten Frost with suspension. In life, we constantly make decisions whether we are going to please self or please God. (Frost) chose one path, and the school committee chose the other, England said. The handbook for the 84-student Christian school says rock music is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds. England said Frost's family should not be surprised by the school's position. For the parents to claim any injustice regarding this issue is at best forgetful and at worst disingenuous, he said. It is our hope that the student and his parents will abide by the policies they have already agreed to. The principal at Findlay High School, whose graduates include Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, said he respects, but does not agree with, Heritage Christian School's view of prom. I don't see (dancing and rock music) as immoral acts, Craig Kupferberg said. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090508/ap_on_re_us/us_school_dance_flap
Bismillah [IslamCity] Muslim Brotherhood Falters as Egypt Outflanks Islamists
MIDDLE EAST NEWS MAY 15, 2009 Muslim Brotherhood Falters as Egypt Outflanks Islamists Article Slideshow Comments (22) By YAROSLAV TROFIMOV ALEXANDRIA, Egypt -- Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood is on the defensive, its struggles reverberating throughout Islamist movements that the secretive organization has spawned world-wide. Just recently, the Brothers' political rise seemed unstoppable. Candidates linked with the group won most races they contested in Egypt's 2005 parliamentary elections, gaining a record 20% of seats. Across the border in Gaza, another election the following year propelled the Brotherhood's Palestinian offshoot, Hamas, into power. Egypt's 'Brothers' Hit Bump View SlideshowDominic Nahr for The Wall Street Journal A family in downtown Cairo. More photos and interactive graphics Since then, Egypt's government jailed key Brotherhood members, crimped its financing and changed the constitution to clip religious parties' wings. The Brotherhood made missteps, too, alienating many Egyptians with saber rattling and proposed restrictions on women and Christians. These setbacks have undermined the group's ability to impose its Islamic agenda on this country of 81 million people, the Arab world's largest. When we're not advancing, we are retreating. And right now we are not spreading, we are not achieving our goals, the Brotherhood's second-in-command, Mohamed Habib, said in an interview. Across the Muslim world, authoritarian governments, Islamist revivalists and liberals often fight for influence. Egypt is a crucial battleground. A decline of the Brotherhood here, with its shrill anti-Israeli rhetoric and intricate ties to Hamas, strengthens President Hosni Mubarak's policy of engagement with the Jewish state. It could also give him more room to work with President Barack Obama, who is scheduled to visit Egypt next month, on reviving the Arab-Israeli peace process. Brotherhood leaders caution against reading too much into the current troubles, saying the 81-year-old group has bounced back from past challenges. Others say the government's suppression of the Brotherhood, Egypt's main nonviolent opposition movement -- paired with arrests of Mr. Mubarak's secular foes -- can unleash more radical forces. If it continues this way, it's very dangerous and could lead to the return of extremism and terrorism in Egypt, says Ayman Nour, a liberal politician who ran for president against Mr. Mubarak in 2005 and was later imprisoned on campaign-fraud charges that the U.S. government condemned as politically motivated. Formed in 1928 amid a backlash against European colonialism, the Muslim Brotherhood remains a deeply entrenched force, with hundreds of thousands of members and affiliates across the Middle East. Operating under the slogan Islam Is the Solution, it aims to establish an Islamic state governed by religious law. The Brotherhood engaged in assassinations and bombings in the past, and one of its ideologues, Sayyid Qutb, developed a radical theology that still motivates jihadi groups such as al Qaeda. Since the 1970s, however, the Egyptian Brotherhood renounced violence and rejected Mr. Qutb's more fiery theories. It has focused instead on building an Islamic society from the bottom up, through proselytizing, social work and political activism. Biggest Opposition Bloc Though it is outlawed by the Egyptian state, the Brotherhood operates here more or less in the open. It maintains hundreds of offices and fields electoral candidates. In part thanks to American pressure to liberalize Egypt's authoritarian political system, these candidates -- running as independents -- were allowed to contest 145 seats, almost one-third of the total, in parliamentary elections in November and December 2005. By winning 88 races, the Brotherhood cemented its role as Egypt's dominant opposition force. The next-biggest opposition faction, the liberal Wafd party, garnered just seven seats. The poll results, and the subsequent Hamas takeover in the Gaza Strip, provoked a government counterattack. In 2007, Egypt amended its constitution, skewing future representation in favor of registered parties and against independents, the only candidates the outlawed Brotherhood can field. When local council elections, initially due for 2006, were finally held last year, the state disqualified most Brotherhood candidates. The group boycotted. Mr. Habib, the Brotherhood's white-haired deputy chief, says its candidates are unlikely to win more than five to 10 seats in parliamentary elections slated for next year. The regime launched a wave of arrests and military trials against the group, as well, the harshest such security clampdown on the Brotherhood in decades. This dragnet ensnared thousands of rank-and-file members. It also netted some Brotherhood leaders who ran the financial apparatus that funnels millions of dollars in donations and investment

Bismillah [IslamCity] The sweetness of Islamic faith
The sweetness of Islamic faith Adil Salahi | Arab News Anas ibn Malik quotes the Prophet (peace be upon him) as saying: Any person who combines these three qualities will experience the sweetness of faith: 1) that God and His messenger are dearer to him than anything else; 2) that his love of others is purely for God's sake; and 3) that he hates to relapse into disbelief as much as he hates to be thrown in the fire. (Related by Al-Bukhari). The first thing to note in this Hadith is that certain qualities are necessary before a person experiences the sweetness of faith. This suggests that a person may look at the message of Islam and find it reasonable and logical. He declares himself a believer and expresses his unhesitating belief in God's oneness and in Prophet Muhammad's message. Such a person is a Muslim, no doubt. He earns the reward of believers. However, he needs to do more in order to experience what the Prophet describes as the sweetness of faith. Such sweetness is like the fruit of a tree. Thus, when one is convinced of the truth of faith, that person has planted a shoot, which one needs to nurture and look after so that it grows into a tree and produces its fruits. Nurturing the tree of faith is by fulfilling God's orders, doing what He wants us to do and refraining from what He has forbidden us. Indeed when a believer begins to do that, committing himself to do what God has bidden, he will soon find the effects of such commitment within himself and in his life generally because God only orders us to do what is good for us, and He forbids us only what is evil and harmful to us or others. Thus, such committed person will realize that his commitment brings him increasing benefits in this present life, in addition to what he hopes to receive of God's reward. He would then love his commitment and do it more than willingly. Islam forbids all intoxicating drinks, putting extra emphasis on even tasting an alcoholic drink. Take the case of a young Muslim studying in Europe or America. He may find himself among a group of friends who are all drinking. They try to persuade him to have a small glass of wine, concentrating on its benefits and saying that drinking in moderation causes no harm. He may feel tempted to join, but then he looks at one of his friends on whom the effects of alcohol are beginning to tell and realizes how that person is starting to lose control of himself. Our Muslim friend will then step back, finding extra strength to resist the temptation. The more he reflects on the effects of drinking the greater is his love of the Islamic way that forbids all alcoholic drinks, even in the smallest measure. His commitment to do God's bidding grows always stronger. It is such strong commitment that is the mark of his love of God and His messenger. The two other qualities develop in consequence of the first. A Muslim's commitment to obey God in all that He bids us to do or refrain from will begin to influence his social life. His relations with other people will put much importance on their attitude to Islam and Islamic life. He will love those who do what He does of obeying God and following the Prophet's guidance. His relationship with them will be based on the fact that they share a commitment and a method of living that places obedience to God as paramount. They will all feel a bond uniting them in a cause that brings only goodness in human life. Such bond generates a sort of happiness that envelops them all, a happiness that can transform every human society and bring the best out of it. Experiencing all this, a true believer is always increasingly happy with his faith and way of life. He will not barter it for anything on earth. He realizes that this happy life will also bring him far superior happiness in the life to come. He cannot imagine himself going back to disbelief. Indeed, to him the very thought is so repugnant that he would prefer to be thrown in the fire rather than be an unbeliever. http://www.arabnews.com/?page=5section=0article=120209d=22m=3y=2009

Bismillah [IslamCity] Bahrain to end 'slavery' system
Bahrain to end 'slavery' system By Mohammed Harmassi Bahrain has announced it will scrap its sponsorship system for foreign workers - a first in a region often criticised by rights groups over the issue. The system, known as kafala, is used to monitor the number of foreigners working in Gulf Arab economies, which rely heavily on cheap foreign labour, mostly recruited from countries from the Indian subcontinent. Bahraini Labour Minister Majeed al-Alawi said the changes would be introduced in August. Mr Alawi said the main change in the regulations would mean foreign workers would now be directly sponsored by the Labour Authority and would not rely on their employers. The current system, which is common to all Gulf countries, has long been criticised by human rights groups for placing workers at the mercy of their employers. Employers usually take employees' passports when they enter the country and sometimes use possession of the travel documents to extort a large fee before the workers can leave the country. Overhaul Gulf governments have historically welcomed immigrant workers on the assumption that nationals will not do many jobs, which they consider to be below them. Despite this, Majeed al-Alawi told BBC Arabic radio that the new system would form part of a broader initiative to place a ceiling on the number of expatriate workers in Bahrain. The US State Department in 2008 placed Bahrain in tier two - out of three - of its annual human trafficking report for not fully complying with minimum standards to stop the trafficking of people for forced labour or the sex trade. Labour ministers of other Gulf countries have agreed that the present sponsorship system needs to be overhauled. The system means that expatriate workers can enter, work, and leave the host country only with the permission or assistance of their sponsor. Many sponsors exploit the system to make money. Since the 1970s, there has been a significant increase in the number of immigrants working in the states of the Gulf Cooperation Council or GCC (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates). The pattern of immigration has also changed as South and Southeast Asian migrant workers have replaced Arab migrants. They now constitute as much as 90% of the foreign workforce in some GCC States. The kafala system has become the legal basis for residency and employment. Migrant workers receive an entry visa and a residence permit only if a GCC citizen or a GCC institution employs them. Sponsorship requires the sponsor-employer to assume full economic and legal responsibility for the employee during the contract period. The worker can only work for the sponsor and is entirely dependent on their sponsor to remain in the country. Vulnerable In many GCC States, the sponsor is legally able to confiscate the passports of employees until their contract has ended. Bahrain's Labour Minister Majeed al-Alawi likened the current system to slavery. Women employed in domestic service are particularly vulnerable. If an employee sues their sponsor for violating labour practices, there is generally no form of unemployment protection while the case is pending in the legal system. And even if the worker wins the case, the usual result is for the sponsor contract to be terminated, meaning that the worker has to leave the country. While the kafala system provides the state with an important means for monitoring labour flow, these policies can infringe the rights of workers as they are often used to deny them justice and basic protection. This is the system that Bahrain says it is now committed to change. http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/hi/middle_east/8035972.stm _39611357_bahrain_map203.gif
