[JAWS-Users] Table View In Outlook 2016
Hello, everyone. Within the past few days, whenever I bring up Outlook 2016 in Office 365, I am told by Jaws that I am in table view. So far, this doesn't seem to have created issues with my ability to navigate files and folders, but I'm wondering what table view is, and whether this is something I should be concerned about. I'm using Windows 7 and Jaws 17 here. Thanks for any wisdom anyone can provide. Once again, I've set my Jaws to follow the PC. It originally was set on "Jaws will not follow PC". Will see if this makes a difference. This process works on any attachment, text or audio. 1. Open the e-mail message in Microsoft Outlook. 2. SHIFT+TAB to the list of attachments. That list will include the message itself. 3. Use the right arrow to highlight the attachment to be read or listened to 4. Press Enter to activate whichever app will be used to access that attachment. With audio attachments, the default player is Windows Media Player. For Word documents, Outlook will open a Word based document in that environment automatically. If the attachment is in text format, Notepad is the default application. NOTE: This process will not automatically save the attachment. It will simply open it for you. To save the attachment, press CONTROL+S and follow the prompts. FORWARDING AN E-MAIL ATTACHMENT USING MICROSOFT OUTLOOK Outlook will still show the list of attachments on a separate screen. [JAWS-Users] Strange E-mail Issue
Hello, everyone. This morning, I have discovered a very strange e-mail issue that I could use some help with. As a bit of background: I currently run two e-mail accounts through Outlook 2016. They are my University e-mail account, and my personal g-mail account. When I send an e-mail to a particular e-mail address in my g-mail account through Outlook, I get the following error message: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain by d105412a.ess.barracudanetworks.com. [64.235.150.252]. The error that the other server returned was: 550 Service unavailable; Client host [mail-io0-f173.google.com] blocked by zen.spamhaus.org; 24.231.151.149 (Note: I have deleted the e-mail address from the message in order to protect the person's privacy.) I have no problems at all sending an e-mail to this exact same address using my University e-mail account and outlook. This would lead me to believe that something is wrong with my g-mail account, but I can't figure out what, or how to fix it, especially since I know the e-mail address I'm using is accurate. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problems With Selecting, Copying, And Pasting e-mail message content In Outlook 2016
Mike: When I have encountered the problem, I was in reading mode with regard to the involved e-mail. In the latest situation, I tried to select, copy, and paste the info I wanted after putting the e-mail in the forwarding mode, but only got partial information, and some of what I did not want. In this case, the info presented is in a table format, which, as Adrian suggested, could be part of the problem. Even though it is a bit more work, I can select, copy, and paste the entire e-mail into a notepad document, and work with it from there. I have yet to try the paste special option, but will do so at some point. You can press letter "m"=mail, or down-arrow to mail. Do not press enter. Tab. Enter on Spelling and Autocorrect button 3. In the Proofing section, click AutoCorrect Options. Tab enter on, AutoCorrect Options 4. Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab. Now hears where you need to navigate a little differently. Tab around until you get to the ok button, now tab once to cancel, and then tab once more, note jaws will not say anything, if you left arrow, you will hear jaws say, Auto format as you type. You now can use the tab key until you find your auto numbering, Note, if you right or left arrow, when your two tabs past the ok button, You will see various settings. Re: [JAWS-Users] regarding the recent drop in list traffic
David: I, too, find this list to be incredibly valuable. The folks on the list have come to my aid during a few desperate times over the past couple of years, and I am truly appreciative of that. I hope I might have helped some folks along the way as well. I realize that serving as a list moderator is a demanding and often thankless job, so please continue to hang in there as long as you can. Granted Microsoft has blocked out this domain and earlier this year road runner did the same thing. Also in the past com cast and others have done the same. It might be possible that the list has run its’ course. It is 11 years old this week as a matter of fact which I find hard to believe myself. Let’s see how things go for a while before any major decisions are made so don’t anybody panic at this point. I am just expressing my concern about the way things have dropped off so much. It had to happen sooner or later. The fact is I have no idea how long the average email list stays in business, I suppose that would be an interesting study. [JAWS-Users] Problems When Searching For A Lost File On The Computer
Hello, everyone. I am having a problem when trying to search for a lost file on my computer. What I used to do was to go to my computer, and then the drive I thought the file was saved in. I'd then hit control F, and the search would proceed. I'd be notified when the search was completed, and I could then tab to get the results, usually telling me where the lost file was located. I can't seem to get this to work any longer. I'm using Jaws 17 on a Windows 7 laptop here. Sorry I wasn't clear, Norma. I meant to ask whether the program allows you to rip CD's from your personal collection, and then store them onto the Victor Reader Stream for later enjoyment. I have used CD . EXE for that purpose, but I know that program is getting old and may not even be supported any more. Lev: The only way I was able to read the document was to open it via the link in Firefox, and then save it as a separate PDF file. I could then read the saved PDF document. I tried opening the document in Internet Explorer, and couldn't even get beyond the first page announcement. I'm going to talk to the University office that created the original document to see how they did it. In my case, I think the inaccessibility of the document on the web might be related to the document itself, and how it was created. [JAWS-Users] How To Stop Jaws From Saying Clickable At The End Of EveryLine In A Downloaded PDF Document
Hello, everyone. I just received a faculty Emeriti news letter from my University. The letter is accessed via a link that was included in an e-mail. I can open the news letter with no problem, but when I start reading it, Jaws says clickable at the end of every line. Obviously, this makes for an anoying reading experience. I have received news letters from this organization before, and have not had this problem. Is there something I can do to turn this "clickable" announcement off, or could it be something in the way the news letter was sent and formatted? I'm using Jaws 17, Windows 7, and Firefox as my main internet browser. Thanks for any advice! Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem With Messages Stuck In Drafts Folder In Outlook 2016
Mauricio: Well, I went into my g-mail account on the web, and deleted the five messages that existed in my drafts folder the other day. After that, however, a message I sent to the JFW list also appeared and got stuck in my Outlook 2016 drafts folder, and I can't seem to get rid of it in Outlook. It sure is a pain to have to go into my web-based g-mail account to clean things out of the draft folder on occasion. Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2016
I guess I stand corrected too! Once again, I decided to go the Office 365 route, and, in my view, the verdict is still out for me as to whether this was the best decision. I'm finding that whenever Office 365 is updated, it can create some difficulties with Jaws functionality. As some may recall, my latest example of this was with the failure of the shift tab to access my Outlook e-mail folders list after a recent update. Both FS and Microsoft are aware of this issue, but it is still a bit disconcerting. [JAWS-Users] Update On Outlook 2016 Folder Display Issue And System Restore
Hello, everyone. I just got off the phone with Jaws technical support, and, apparently, I'm not the only one experiencing the problem with the folder display in Outlook 2016 that I described yesterday. Others with Outlook 2016 and Office 365 are now experiencing it as well. The problem has something to do with a recent update to Office 365, which has somehow corrupted the navigation pane. The issue has been referred to higher levels at Freedom Scientific, and they will contact Microsoft about the issue. I'm also going to contact the Microsoft Accessibility hotline to let them know of the issue. In the meantime, I'll have to use Control Y, rather than shift tab, to access my Outlook folder list, so at least, I'm not totally dead in the water. I'll keep everyone updated. [JAWS-Users] System Restore Question
Hello, everyone. As I noted about an hour ago, doing a system restore solved my problem with the folder display list in Outlook 2016. However, for some reason, the first time I tried it, the system restore back to two days ago did not stay. When I got back into system restore, the "Undo system restore" option was checked, and I could not get down lower on the screen to check the option that lists restore points. I could find the option with my Jaws cursor, but could not access or check it using the P C cursor. I had to seek sighted assistance to get to this option. Does anyone have a work-around for this issue? Hopefully, my earlier system restore point will stay this time. Thanks all for your patience. [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2016 Folder List Display Problem Solved
Hello, everyone. Well, I did a system restore to a restore point about two days ago, and now my Outlook folders display properly again via the shift-tab key. So, thanks to those who helped me work through this issue. And, I now know how to do a system restore, so I've learned something new today! Re: [JAWS-Users] Strange Outlook 2016 problem
Hi, Adrian. I tried to maximize the screen when in Outlook, and not in an actual message, but it did not make any difference. The strange thing is that I can get to my folder list via control Y with no problem. It's almost like my folder list view that I get to via shift tab is somehow collapsed, or, perhaps, not expanded. I have no clue how this happened, especially since my e-mail was working just fine earlier this afternoon. I think it is some sort of a Jaws issue. I'll keep checking here for possible remedies. In the meantime, I can always use Control Y. Re: [JAWS-Users] Address Book VS. Contacts List In Outlook 2016?
Mike: This is good to know. For whatever reason, I have always found the address book, accessed via control shift B., to be easier to navigate and work with than the contacts list, accessed by control 3. I've found this even in earlier versions of Outlook, such as Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010. Not sure why this is the case, but hopefully, it's just a matter of personal preference and what works best for a given individual. I'd be interested in the thoughts of others. Re: [JAWS-Users] setting up signature for email
Mike and all: Here are two sets of instructions that I have for creating an e-mail signiture. They are for Outlook 2010, but as other list members have said, they should work for later versions. I haven't done this for quite a while, but I know that I was successful using one of these procedures. I believe both sets of instructions came from Jaws Users List members. Tom Behler Instructions For Creating E-mail Signiture: 1. Alt f to get to the file menue. 2. T to get to options. 3. Arrow down once to mail. 4. Tab six times to get to the word signature. 5. Hit your spacebar. 6. Tab three times. 7. "it will read "signature to edit". 8 Arrow up or down until you find the email address that you want to use with your signature. 9.Tab twice, and it will say, "New signature". 10. Hit enter. 11. Type a name for your signature. I usually use the account name or subject name, so I don't forget on which emails I want the signature. 12. Tab and space on the okay button. 13. Then you land on the signature page. As you tab read your choices for font, etc. 14 When you get to the edit box type in your signature, then tab and check the okay button. 15. You are then given a screen of other choices. Tab through to decide whether you want to check or uncheck any of these boxes. Once you tab to the okay button and click it, you are back in your inbox and have created your signature. 16. If you have a single account your signature should be placed in your message automatically. Alternative instructions: Create a new message -- alt H, N Go to the insert tab -- alt N and arrow down once to the incllude box Arrow right until you reach the signature dropdown and press enter. You'll find yourself on the word signatures followed by an ellipses. Press enter. You are now in the email signatures tab. Tab three or four times until you get to the "new" button and press enter. Once you've done that, you will be in an edit box where you want to type the name of the signature. Type the name then tab to ok and hit enter. Now you will find yourself in a tab with all sorts of options like which account you want the new signature associated with, the font, alignment, whether you want the signature added to replies or forwards etc. The last tab before ok is the edit box where you will type the text of the signature. Once you type the text, tab to ok and press enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] Strange Windows 7 Issue RegardingDevice Listings Under My Computer
No, the drivers for the external hard drive were already installed long before I started experiencing this problem, and the drive now comes up very slowly on the list of drives every time I call it up. Specifically, I'd say it takes a minute or two for the hard drive to be listed under "my computer". The drive itself is a 1 terabyte drive, and contains about 200 gigs worth of material. I originally thought that the amount of material on the drive was the culprit, but I haven't increased the amount of material stored on the drive since I began seeing the problem. Anyway, it's kind of strange, but at least the drive is now being recognized. Gerald and all: Well, for some reason, my external hard drive now re-appears without having to shut down and re-boot the computer. I do notice, though, that it takes much longer for this to happen than used to be the case, but at least the drive now shows up. Thanks to all for your thoughts and suggestions on the issue. Dave: What exact setting would I be checking? The strange thing is that I didn't have this issue with this computer, prior to taking it to my University's I T department for servicing. [JAWS-Users] FW: Update And Question On Importing G-mail Contacts List Into Outlook 2016
All: I'm re-sending the quiry below, in case it didn't go through the first time. After quite a bit of effort, and another call to the Microsoft Accessibility Hotline, I now have my personal g-mail contacts list imported into Outlook 2016 on my Windows 7 laptop. However, there is one problem remaining: I have two contacts lists in Outlook 2016-My University contacts list, and my personal g-mail contacts list. To access my University contacts list, I use the control shift B function as I have always done. However, I have not been able to accomplish this for my personal g-mail contacts list. Now, in Outlook 2016, if I want to access my personal g-mail contacts list, I have to use control 3, and then when I am done, I have to use control 1 to get out of that contacts list. Does anyone know how I can get my personal g-mail contacts list imported properly so that it can be accessed via control shift B, like I do to access my University contacts list? I used to be able to access both contacts lists in Outlook 2010 with no problem. The Microsoft Accessibility Hotline technicians do not know how to accomplish this. [JAWS-Users] How To Save And Import Contacts Lists In Outlook 2016
Hello, everyone. In the process of re-installing Office 365 and Outlook 2016 to work with my g-mail account on a Windows 7 laptop, my g-mail contacts list has been lost. Fortunately for me, I have the completely updated g-mail contacts list on an older Windows 7 desktop which I also use for home office work. Can someone give me a set of instructions for saving, and then importing that g-mail contacts list from the older PC to the new laptop? I have some older instructions here for Office 2010, but am not sure how well they would work with Outlook 2016 and Office 365. Thank you! [JAWS-Users] Firefox Question
Hello, everyone. I have a question about something I have noticed since the last firefox update to Firefox 47.0. It used to be that when I clicked on a link to a file that was included in an e-mail, Firefox would go directly to the involved file, and I could read the contents of the file right there in the Firefox browser. Now, whenever I click on such a file, the file automatically gets placed in the downloads folder on my computer. The confusing thing is that this happens without any indication from Jaws. My sighted wife tells me that there is a blue downloads arrow at the top of the screen that you can click on to open the file. But, of course, I don't have a clue about that arrow, and how it can be accessed. I have noticed the same pattern if I manually copy and paste the link to the involved file into the Firefox Browser. I'm curious if anyone else has seen this new behavior, and if there are any settings I can change to get things back to the way they used to be. Thanks as always!
