Thanks, I'd looked there, but had just overlooked Death Date, I use that Detailed Search quite often, but never for a death date. I don't have it set to automatically update every time, I just hate going back and having so many backups to delete, may have to do that anyway. I am good about backing up when I've entered quite a bit, I just failed to that time. To others that replied, I have my file set to open up the perviously used file, and it didn't delete the individual, it just didn't save the Events I'd put in the last time I used it. It's critical that we get the full original file in order to determine what's going on with the message, preferably before running check/repair to see where the nulls are before that process is run. A gedcom or part of the file will not be helpful at all. Ken *can* fix the file if we have it... but there's nothing we can do without access to the file. Alan said he does not want to share private information due to legal and personal reasons, but would be willing to create a stripped down database that can recreate the problem that only contains information he'd be willing to share. Legacy has stated twice in this thread that would not be good enough. [LegacyUG] Events vs Notes
I just started attempting to add .jpg attachments to various events. While doing this I noted something strange, not related to the .jpg attachment which appears on my on-line web site. I have a census entry for my dad and mom. However, on my dad's website view the census is noted as an event while on my mom's view it is noted as notes Can anyone explain how this happens? As I said, this was found as part of my effort to add .jpg attachments to an event. In the test file I created I entered a census event for both and when I created the web site from Legacy both have the census event appear as notes vice event. Re: [LegacyUG] Potential Problems behaviour
Jenny, I found this thread in the archives and I notice there was no response that covered the points below. 1. There is an edit parents button on the potential problems screen, that opens the parents marriage information in case you need to edit the marriage info and that marriage screen has buttons to edit the husband or wife if you need to edit the personal information on one of the parents. Using those buttons/screens you do not need to exit the potential problems list to fix problems with the parent's information. 2. The potential problem check is a check from the person to the dates for their parents, that is why the report lists each child and not about the parent. Checking from a child to data on a parent is easier because of the structure of the database. If you think that a reverse check from the parent to the children which would report a problem with the parents dates related to dates for their children we are happy to consider suggestions for improvement. In Legacy 6.0 and 7.0 you can suggest a new feature by clicking on the link on the Legacy Home Tab Support Section Other users can make a suggestion here: http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/Suggest.asp Use the drop down list in the first box to select a category, Legacy 7 or Legacy Charting. Before submitting a suggestion consider the existing checks made about parent dates from the viewpoint of the child and make specific suggestions on what to check on children's dates from the viewpoint of the parent. However there was one entry which said that an Individual's Father's death date was wrong and a group of entries for a set of siblings where it said that their Mother's death date was wrong. I am curious why these entries were in the names of the children, not the Individuals concerned. It meant that instead of being able to use the Edit button, I had to lose the list, go to one of the named people and then select their parent in order to make the correction. Fix his database. I'm talking about a null error and it's my understanding that was resolved. Re: [LegacyUG] loss of data
Sigh. And right after I sent an email to the group about not sending attachments Obviously there are several issues at play here. The only one I'm familiar with is the one we discussed about the null values - which means that in the database, a field has requirements that *something* be entered and the field is empty. That's the one I was trying to get fixed for you. The nulls are still in the database whether or not you stopped using nFS and will be there until they've been manually fixed, which the programmers can do very quickly for you. It's not missing data, i.e., data disappearing after entering it. More likely than not you will not know what is missing to create the null error without getting inside the database. I suspect that Carl should contact Support and work with one of the techs on his issue, if he hasn't already. This isn't something we can resolve by a long discussion on the list. The whole thread has gotten very convoluted. I suspect that Carl should contact Support and work with one of the techs on his issue, if he hasn't already. This isn't something we can resolve by a long discussion on the list. The whole thread has gotten very convoluted. I twice asked support for a comment on how the database handled manual additions while connected through LFS. The first answer was not to the question I asked, so I asked again a few months ago. I figured if I was going to get any answer I would probably have it by now, so I deleted the tracking number. I know that I will probably lose anything I add while LFS is working, and I can work around that problem, but I wanted to understand what was happening. I did not think it would require discussion, or that if it did, I would get a response to that effect from support. The problem isn't with just that year date, it is happening throughout Legacy. I type as 17 Jun 1938-9 or 17 Jun 1938/9and it shows up as 0009-17 Jun 1938 . Just the input of a year it does not change. All the date slots.. Born, Bapt, Died, Buried is effected. I have looked in all the options for dates, changed the date. I have tried changing: Dates displayed as Month Format Separators for numeric dates are checked on dash but changing this box to anything else does not fix the problem. Input format The Double Date cutoff is not checked. Date Checking is not checked. I have ran the File Maintenance/Check/repair. Still there. I have closed everything out, shut the computer down, but still there when I turn the computer back on. I am unable to enter any information into any date slot without this date mess showing up. Re: [LegacyUG] Date won't change
You need to enter the full year or else Legacy thinks it's in the first century. If you're not sure of the year, then enter the date you're most sure of in the field and add an alternate date. If it's a date range, then enter 17 June 1938 - 17 June 1939 Sincerely, Sherry Technical Support Legacy Family Tree On Thu, Sep 22, 2011 at 7:30 PM, Beth glassbyb...@aol.com wrote: The problem isn't with just that year date, it is happening throughout Legacy. Re: [LegacyUG] Date won't change and slide for more children is gone
How many children? There are screens for 1-5, 1-10 and 1-15. I have some with over fifteen and it adds a 'scroll' to get to the last 3 of 18. If needed it holds 16-30. I have no family with over 30 children from the same couple, but it should work the same. When you have a 'filled table' right click on ANY child and it will bring up the add choices. There are multiple ways to add children. On Wed, Sep 21, 2011 at 6:23 PM, Beth glassbyb...@aol.com wrote: Nothing comes up to explain that section. It is the slide at the end of the children's list in the family view on the right side. When I have more children that the 3 section list of children will handle, by opening the slide I can add more children. And the slide that allows more children has dissappeared. Just not there. I am afraid I caused all this by trying to change an item I read on the list here. I presume that you are referring to the horizontal scroll-bar at the bottom of the Children portion of the Family tab? If not what and where - we would prefer Window titles. If you right-click on a child's name, a context menu pops up. Click on View and select the option that is most appropriate to you. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
