Appending To The MacOS Clipboard

2016-12-17 Thread Brian Hansen
Is it possible to append text, graphics and links to the clipboard in macOS
Sierra, or would I need a 3rd party app, and if a 3rd party app is required, is
there one that works well with VO?

Thanks.

Blessings,

Brian

Re: VoiceOver losing speech on Macbook

2016-12-17 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey Chris, if you went to the Apple Menu and About This Mac, you could find out
what year it's from. I kinda find that odd that a 2012 machine would have the
Alex issue because it's only 4 years old but who knows. I know that 2010 models
have this which is why I'm avoiding Alex like the plague until Apple fixes him.
And I assume that you're running Sierra.2 so my question about Alex crashing
older Macs like mine has been answered, and sadly it still is.

I am elated to report that 10.12.2 is now installed, and iTunes, Pages, and
Numbers appear to finally be properly updating. Thank you all for your
suggestions; Simon, your reinstall in Recovery mode did the trick. :)

When in the AppStore on your Mac, press cmd-4 to bring focus to your
purchases. Sign in if needed. There should be a table with your list
of purchases. Interact with it and see if Sierra is in there. If it
is, then to the far right of that row should be an Install or Download
button, press it. If for some reason, Sierra is not in your list of
purchases, press cmd-f and enter Sierra in the resulting field, then
press return. MacOS Sierra should be your first result in the Search
Results. Locate the Install button within the info for MacOS Sierra
and press it. If it says that you already have Sierra, press the "So
What" button, oops, I mean the Continue button. If the download
progress is not available in this screen, press cmd-4 again to bring
up the Purchases scree and interact with the Other Purchases table,
you should find the download progress in there.

See if you have any more success this way.

Hello,
I am using VoiceOver on the latest El Capitan on my late 2008 iMac.
I would like to add some Email aliases to my iCloud mail account but cannot
work out how to do this under VoiceOver. I log into www.icloud.com and select
change iCloud settings and then change app and then mail. Alas that does not
offer me an option to add a new alias. I have tried this with both Safari and
Chrome with no joy.
A complication is that I have set up 2 factor authentication on my iCloud
account which results in a 6 digit verification code being sent to my iPhone. I
then enter this onto my iMac and so think this part of the process is working
OK.
Has anyone added an iCloud mail alias using VoiceOver?
Many thanks….

Paul Hopewell

RE: On the brink of insanity trying to update OS 10.12.2

2016-12-17 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Kristine,

Have you tried the update / reinstall using the recovery console to get the
installer?

To do this shut the machine down and then hold command R during start up and
make sure you hold the keys down for approx. 30 seconds,

It doesn't have to be that long but I just like to be sure it goes to the
correct place.

Then give it a minute or so for the machine to start up and then switch on
voiceover and pick the install OS X option from the utilities menu and then
follow the prompts
Let us know how that works for you.

Good luck.

Scott,

Christine did say 10.12.2, so I'd assume that it's the MacOS that is causing
the frustration. It sounds to me that the Installer log is confused. There
are ways of editing the log, but it would probably be much easier simply to
find the stand-alone installer for 10.12.2 on Apple's site. Download it, then
run that installer to update your system. If you have problems, let us know.

Hello,
I am using VoiceOver on the latest El Capitan on my late 2008 iMac.

Andrew, Thanks for your reply.

I got the macbook pro from eBay so am not sure the year. it said it was
the last version to have the DVD drive, probably 2012. it works quite
well accept for the speech loss.

I'll report it to accessibility.

I'm afraid that was my experience too on my late 2010 macbook air. I
had to give up using Alex for this not to happen. What age is your
computer? I've reported it to accessibility at apple. You may wish to
report it too.

From time to time using Alex the speech will just die. I can still
move around the screen and hear the VO sound effects. If I toggle VO
with command F5 it doesn't come back. I must press and hold power to
get the computer up and running again.

Does anyone have any suggestions, maybe if I were to use another voice
other than Alex?

ChrisI could be in the middle of navigating around and poof, no speech.
It is random.

Re: On the brink of insanity trying to update OS 10.12.2

2016-12-17 Thread Tim Kilburn
Christine,

Sounds like it's being less than cooperative for you. How about we try to
download the entire Sierra installer from the AppStore then. When in the
AppStore on your Mac, press cmd-4 to bring focus to your purchases. Sign in if
needed. There should be a table with your list of purchases. Interact with it
and see if Sierra is in there. If it is, then to the far right of that row
should be an Install or Download button, press it. If for some reason, Sierra
is not in your list of purchases, press cmd-f and enter Sierra in the resulting
field, then press return. MacOS Sierra should be your first result in the
Search Results. Locate the Install button within the info for MacOS Sierra and
press it. If it says that you already have Sierra, press the "So What" button,
oops, I mean the Continue button. If the download progress is not available in
this screen, press cmd-4 again to bring up the Purchases scree and interact
with the Other Purchases table, you should find the download progress in there.

See if you have any more success this way.

HTH.

Re: On the brink of insanity trying to update OS 10.12.2

2016-12-17 Thread Scott Granados
Tim, you’re absolutely right, that was my fault entirely. I heard the 10 and
the 2 and thought I heard IOS. Totally wrong on my part.

I’ll be glad to grab the installer if the original poster can’t find it.

Re: On the brink of insanity trying to update OS 10.12.2

2016-12-17 Thread Tim Kilburn

Later..

RE: Stopping GMAIL archiving

2016-12-17 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Paul,

The short answer to your question is, Yes. You can either manually delete
messages from your account or have gMail automatically permanently delete
messages.

I will describe the broad strokes on how to accomplish your goal. For detailed
instructions, perform a Google search as it has been quite some time since I
configured my settings and my memory may be a bit rusty.

Keep in mind that gMail uses labels instead of actual folders; however many use
these two terms, interchangeably.

Okay, the first thing you will need to do is to set gMail to automatically
delete any messages with the Trash label, after 30 days. You will configure
this setting from within your gMail.com web interface.

On your Mac, from within the Mail preferences area, you will configure the
settings such that any deleted messages will be moved to the Trash folder on
the server. In this same area, you will find a setting that determines when
the Trash folder/label should be permanently purged.

Oh, make certain that, while in the gMail.com web interface, you set the All
mail folder/label to always be displayed. I believe this setting is located in
the Labels area of gMail.com.

To remove current items, either from within your OS X Mail client or via the
web interface, simply move all of the current archived messages into the Trash
folder and then manually delete them via either a button in the Web interface
or via the mailbox menu in the Mac mail client.

Mark

Subject: Stopping GMAIL archiving

Hello,
I am running the latest El Capitan on my late 2008 iMac. I am using GMAIL with
imap protocol.

It seems that GMAIL moves every message I have ever sent or received into its
all mail folder which appears on my iMac as the archive folder. I do not like
GMAIL retaining all these Emails as it reduces my privacy and so would like to
stop this behaviour. I have looked at my GMAIL settings and cannot see anything
I can change to stop GMAIL archiving. Is it possible to stop GMAIL archiving
all messages?
Many thanks….

Paul Hopewell

Re: Anyone successfully triple booting?

2016-12-17 Thread Scott Granados
Hi there, personally I would advise against this and I’m most willing to hear
opposing viewpoints on this but here’s my take. Using vision you have a
totally accessible path to each OS. Using bootcamp the selection of the OS you
wish to boot is not accessible to my understanding of things. If you’re in a
hurry this could be an issue. I’m sure like anything it’s just a matter of
memorizing key presses but for me fusion does so well I wouldn’t bother with
the potential headaches.

Just my $.02 realize that doesn’t answer your larger question of how to.

Re: On the brink of insanity trying to update OS 10.12.2

2016-12-17 Thread Scott Granados
You do not update the IOS through the App Store.

You go to settings, general, software update and then click install. YOu’ll.be
prompted for you pin, enter your pin and then wait a while, the
file will download and you’ll click install. All will complete at that point
on it’s own and it can take several minutes where the phone seems dead. Just
leave it alone once it starts to install and be sure you’re plugged in.

Hope that helps.

Re: Foreign language keyboards

2016-12-17 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Did you pick Brazil or Portugal as your region? I believe in Sierra you need to
go to the language area and add a preferred Language and Region. Then you
can go to keyboard and select the input method. They listed 3 different
Brazilian keyboard layouts on my system.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Aliases in icloud mail

2016-12-17 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am using VoiceOver on the latest El Capitan on my late 2008 iMac.

Stopping GMAIL archiving

2016-12-17 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running the latest El Capitan on my late 2008 iMac. I am using GMAIL with
imap protocol.

It seems that GMAIL moves every message I have ever sent or received into its
all mail folder which appears on my iMac as the archive folder. I do not like
GMAIL retaining all these Emails as it reduces my privacy and so would like to
stop this behaviour. I have looked at my GMAIL settings and cannot see anything
I can change to stop GMAIL archiving. Is it possible to stop GMAIL archiving
all messages?
Many thanks….

Re: Anyone successfully triple booting?

2016-12-17 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Well, I'm a command line kind of gal, so Mac leaves me very, very cold.

Best way to access the command line shell on a Mac? ssh in from a Linux
machine.

Each to their own, I suppose. Nothing wrong with that.

Re: Copying text from a website in Safari

2016-12-17 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Antonio,

Others will probably also chip in, but I often use a rather laborious method of
"copying last spoken phrase to clipboard' available in Voiceover by using the
key combination vo+shift+c, and then pasting it into a blank document in
TextEdit. Depending how much text you copy, you may have to commnad+tab
between your open document and Safari to copy another chunk of the document.
I've never been successful in using shift plus arrow keys method in Safari.

Re: VoiceOver losing speech on Macbook

2016-12-17 Thread Andrew Lamanche
I'm afraid that was my experience too on my late 2010 macbook air. I had to
give up using Alex for this not to happen. What age is your computer? I've
reported it to accessibility at apple. You may wish to report it too.

Foreign language keyboards

2016-12-17 Thread Antonio Guimaraes
I have added the Portuguese layout for the keyboard in system preferences then
keyboards, Under the keyboard tab.

However, the keyboard does not behave as I would expect a Portuguese keyboard
Wood in Brazil. Four instance, to get a acute accent E I would normally press
the Left bracket followed by the E. This does not work on the English version
of the Portuguese keyboard I installed.

What use is the foreign language keyboard if it doesn't work as a foreign
language keyboard? Or do I have this all wrong, and I need to learn how to use
a different version of the Portuguese keyboard in the U.S. version of the Mac
OS?

VoiceOver losing speech on Macbook

2016-12-17 Thread Chris G

Hi,
I have a Macbook pro 13 inch with 16gb ram and a TB SSHD. This is the
one that has the DVD drive on the right side.

I have the latest mac os installed on it.

Anyone successfully triple booting?

2016-12-17 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, All:

I'm mulling a rebuild of the various OS on my 2013 vintage Airbook. I
have VMware, and I've used it more or less successfully. But, there are
times on the road where I don't need to switch among the various
installed OS. These are times were direct access into one OS will be
sufficient.

So, it's clear that Bootcamp is there to dual boot OSX and Windows. But,
what about a third booting option? Say I want a third choice, say Arch
Linux.

I find a howto on the net for setting this up:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MacBook

But, before I dive in to try and get it going, I wanted to ask for the
experience and wisdom of any here who may have successfully created a
triple boot configuration.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

 Hi all,

I thought it would be of interest to many on the list.

RE: Office 365?

2016-12-17 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yes Office 365 is just a product name,

Office 2016 is available for the mac os and works well and I believe voiceover
is now able to read the content of the documents and emails within outlook.

Outlook is the email client in office 2016 or office 365 and it’s a case of
setting it up to work with your provider and account details

Hope this helps.
