Ok. The Little one (Henry) weighed 5 lbs 4 ounces when he was born. We
arrived the day after he was born. He was 4 weeks premature, but was
healthy. He was just a little small and he had trouble with the suck -
swallow - breath instinct. He would wear himself out trying to eat. He
did very well and gained weight everyday. All his other development was
perfect. He was there for 2.5 weeks and then we had to wait for adoption
paperwork to go through. We came home on April 17th. He had already
gained significant weight. He is perfect. Blondish hair blue eyes.
Oddly, he actually looks like me. He really does. He is now almost 3
months old. He has gained twice as much weight as the doctor's want him
to. He hasn't quite caught up to a full term 3 month old, but he is
close. He is a very happy baby, but he still hasn't mastered sleeping
through the night. He has really big hands and feet and he is a ham.
Lots of personality and he turned over on his 1 month birthday. So, Im
sure he is going to be an over-achiever! :) He just had his first cold
this weekend and he weighs almost 11 pounds!

The house is a big ass ranch. VERY different from the previous house.
The previous house was a very nice 1929 brick English Tudor. It had
beautiful hardwoods and fantastic wood trim and some really amazing
architectural details. However, it had small cramped rooms, tiny closets,
no master bathroom, a detached garage and a small yard. It was also the
most expensive house on the block and the neighborhood was really
declining. The new house was built in 1979. AND it is chock full of
boom -chicka - wow -wow 70's glam. Lots of paneling, lots of chain light
fixtures, ugly wallpaper, and one room with floor to ceiling and wall to
wall mirrors! But, it also has 3500 sg. Ft, 3 bathrooms, a half acre
yard, wide open rooms, a finished basement, a huge deck a walk in closet,
an attached oversized garage and its 50 YEARS newer. So, we have been
tearing down wallpaper and painting, and remodeling. Its going a little
slower than expected with the new kid. The really odd thing is since the
market is down, we actually bought this house $30,000 below appraisal and
for the same price we were trying to sell our old house for. Instead of
being the most expensive house in a declining neighborhood, we have the
cheapest house in a very nice neighborhood. My neighbor and I have
already bonded. He has a 500E. It is BEAUTIFUL.

OK, now it's clear. The A pillar and windshield top frame are different in
the cabriolet - thicker and stronger to compensate for lack of a metal roof

[MBZ] 560 SL. Sigh, it never ends...

2011-06-22 Thread Jim Cathey

The windshield wipers on Jill's 560SL are very loose, but linked
tightly together indicating it's the motor linkage that's on its way
out, that's what's kept this car grounded this very rainy Spring.
Also, until this week the weather has been cold and wet and generally
lousy, almost no top-down weather, especially for the less-than-hardy
like my wife, so I haven't been inspired to work on this car. (I
haven't even taken the hardtop off of _my_ car yet!) Anyway, we need
the car so today I started pulling out the interior; I'd better hurry
as the days are already getting shorter! I can't count the number of
times I've done this particular operation on a 107 now, and it's
getting old...

Mirror, visors, top-rail trim, A-pillar trim. Glove box liner,
console surround, ACC panel, stereo. One of the ACC panel's mounting
ears was tearing off again, I used cyanoacrylate glue to re-secure it.
We'll see. The console surround's rear locating pin was tearing off
again, more glue there. Pull off light switch knob, 24mm wrench for
light switch hex nut, unscrew parking brake knob. The parking brake
knob split, as is so common with age. I pulled out the metal insert
and wiped on a bit of Shoe Goo and re-inserted it, then used a small
MB hose clamp to squeeze it back together as it dried. We'll see, I've
generally had poor luck repairing these.

10mm socket on long extension for the two knee bolster bolts, T27 torx
screwdriver for the airbag, large Allen socket for the steering wheel.
Three screws hold in the driver's-side under-dash panel, I removed it
and the light so I could put it in the trunk. Three tiny Philips
screws removed the plastic retainer for the steering wheel brushes,
then I could pull out the instrument cluster. It unplugs readily,
just beware of flashing the clock power lead against ground! (I do it
nearly every time and usually blow the fuse. I did it this time too,
but the fuse somehow survived.)

With the instrument cluster out I grabbed the wiper and wiggled it, I
could see that the intermediate pivot point between the motor and the
arms was coming loose from the car body. A missing bolt? Not sure,
and I was out of time to continue. I suspect that this wiper problem
could be dealt with without removing the dash, but there are other
problems under there too. I plan to continue with dash removal.
But another day, now it's time for breakfast...

Yes, it is a Long name. He was going to be just Henry Atticus Snook. But,

they really wanted to contribute something to his name. We were already set on
Henry Atticus. But, they said they liked the name Richard. We didn't have to
add the name, but we did it out of respect for the Birth mother and the two
boys. PLUS, one of my partners and friends at the firm died 2 years ago. His
name was Richard and so it serves as a memorial to him, too. I wanted Atticus
as a first name, but Mrs. Snook vetoed that.

I doubt we will be adding any more kids! Unless they come the natural way. It
is really amazing how expensive adoptions are!

But another day, now it's time for breakfast...

seems like a good deal if the body is straight and the wood and

Bigger is better.

Keeps hands, feet etc out of the path of the spray.

Be sure to winterize if you live where it gets cold enough to matter.

I have 2 of them. My first is/was a Campbell Hausfeld unit - 4 HP Briggs
- vertical shaft 1600PSI. Works OK. Really could use a bit more umph if
you want to remove grease from an engine or that sort of thing.
Has an adjustable wand so you don't swap the individual heads on and
off. Wand broke after a couple of years and was expensive to replace. It
is now out at the lake.

Second one is a bit bigger but a Chinese clone of some sort. More
pressure - 2250 or 2400 PSI or some such claim. Horizontal shaft and
pump. Individual nozzles rather than adjustable. I like it better.

Neither one was expensive. You could easily pay twice as much as I paid
for either of these, especially if you want a genuine Honda engine etc.
Not really worth it in my opinion unless you really plan to work it hard.

I don't use it much but it serves my purpose pretty well.

I have a pretty low opinion of Northern Tool. They seem to sell
literally the exact same stuff as Harbor Freight, just in different
colors. NT prices are usually higher, though, and they are less
accommodating about warranty claims in my experience---I had a heck of
a time getting them to replace a log splitter that blew up its
hydraulic pump after one winter's use, whereas I'm sure if I'd bought
it from HF I could have taken it back to the store and they'd have
replaced it no questions asked.

Don't knock Sears.

I bought a 6.5 HP Sears pressure washer on sale probably 6-7 years ago.

Other than a cracked fuel cap, it has worked flawlessly. Briggs Stratton
engine, good runner, plenty of power.

The real benchmark of a good pressure washer is nothing more than power. Get
the most powerful unit you can afford.

I say this based on living in Florida, where ownership of a pressure washer is
almost mandatory.

My pressure washer, using the proper nozzle, will easily cut through a 4x4.

I would avoid the electric models, as they are woefully underpowered.

Re: [MBZ] pressure washers

2011-06-22 Thread G Mann
All good points about bigger is better if you want to really peel paint
with it. I presently have a Honda powered [8 hp] one that puts out 3500
psi at the tip. It has the quick disconnect tip set which I find very handy
since it allows lots of variation in the washers use.

I also purchased a separate attachment for it that uses water pressure to
blast sand. Previous sand blasters I've had used air pressure and were
always over tasking the compressors. At 3500 PSI water pressure , not the
case. Talk about power cleaning !!!
Down to bare metal in seconds. Obviously, do not use it on sheet metal
parts.

In the past year of use, no problems with the engine or wash pump. I
suggest that for winter storage you want to use a product called Staybil in
the gas tank which keeps the fuel from turning to varnish, and make sure the
hoses and pump are drained of water if you are above the freeze line.

Bigger cost more money, so the question to be answered is what do I really
want to use it for... a smaller unit with 2000 PSI pressure will do a nice
job if you are only washing your car of hosing off the deck, but if you run
mud bogs and have sea gulls on the deck you will need more volume and
pressure, thus more cost.

Lucky Rich.
My '82 SD was blowing just fine as far as cold 134a A/C goes.
Bought it in '95.
Some 3 years ago that went south.
I recharged the thing. Lasted 6 months (mostly through the winter).
Couldn't find the leak and left it allone.
At the beginning this month I couldn't leave it alone any longer.
Found the problem -- Compressor seal.
1 new compressor $ 250
1 new drier/receiver $ 30
1 new Exp. Device $ 20
4 cans R134a @ $10/
After all that, pressures not quite right (300/barely 35), duct air not more
than 25 F below ambient (~100).
A bystander mentioned that The fan there on the radiator is not running.
New Aux fan $ 100 (aftermarket).
Now, after nearly $ 500 -- no A/C.
Latest culprit: R134a conversion L/P valve insert ($ 0,25).
And the S/M says: check for leaks!!
Just like Marshall and the fuses. It's the small things that can kill 'ya.

Depends on what you plan to do and how often you use it. for

Electric is good for occasional use. Serves my purposes. But with

I never use the other stuff, and without the rotating head, I would
probably agee the electric are now useful. But with it, the karcher
does all i need. I used it to peel paint off a house before
painting. It does not strip paint, but does peel anything loose and
any dirt/chalk.

I despise briggs engines, and I will put up with some annoyance to
use an electric motor that runs when you flip the switch (like a

run.

Now put a one cyl Diesel on, and I will be happy.
