Subject: Adobe Elements 10 Premiere

I just bought a new 64 bit PC. I've been using Adobe Elements 10 for awhile
now. I installed the initial 32 bit disk and found the displayed images to
be soft. The three disk set included a Premiere which was marked 64 bit. I
installed it and the images display in high resolution, but oddly, carry a
lot of red which I must dial out. It is my shaky memory that the Premiere
version was intended for video.(??)

I've yet to find any 64 vs 32 bit information for Elements. Seems a major
secret.

Anyone?

Thanks,

Jack

A lot of people took yesterday off at work. So, these little brown birds
were out in droves foraging in the courtyard. I don't tend to carry
my bigma in my daily bag, so my longest lens was my 18-250.
These birds weren't much more than 4/10cm tall, and of course don't
like people getting too close. As such, I'm rather impressed at
what the K-5 and 18-250 could do:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157638889151025/

For a lens that covers that much range, it performs much better than it
really has any right to.

For people who hate galleries, I think this is the prettiest of the set

The Page Setup dialog establishes the printer, print size and
image orientation - once you set those up, you should run through
the print settings by going down the RH panel to be sure margins
and such are all set up correctly. Then do the Print Settings
dialog to be sure the printer knows what paper weight and feed
mechanism you're using.

If you re-do your setup that way (don't skip any steps), save a
new template, and still have a problem with the output, then it
might be that your Lightroom 5 installation is missing something or
some piece of the Print module data is corrupted or missing. At
that point, I'd try re-installing Lightroom.

cheapest way to get a Thunderbolt drive is not an actual enclosure, but an
adapter from Seagate which happens to provide a bare SATA connector:

 http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Portable-Thunderbolt-Adapter-STAE128/dp/B009HQCARY

you'll see from the reviews that people are using it with SSDs; i have not
seen a benchmark, nor do i know whether it supports SATA-3 speeds

I found that, also this version:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/925740-REG/seagate_stae129_backup_plus_portable_drive.html

I passed on this, at least for now, because they both are sold as supporting
Seagate drives, not as general purpose enclosures and that made me wonder
about compatibility. One Amazon reviewer talks about using the 128 model with
an SSD, supplemented with a half-pack of 3M Post-it notes as a shim. Also some
comments there about heating issues under constant use. I may go there if my
need for speed is not satisfied with my planned setup.

The Page Setup dialog establishes the printer, print size and
image orientation - once you set those up, you should run through
the print settings by going down the RH panel to be sure margins
and such are all set up correctly. Then do the Print Settings
dialog to be sure the printer knows what paper weight and feed

If you re-do your setup that way (don't skip any steps), save a

Re: OT: Epson/Mavericks Printing Question for R2880

2013-12-24 Thread Christine Aguila
Hi Gang:

Well, some good news and some not so good news:

1) I can print from my MacBook Pro w/Retina. I tested 8.5 x 11 and 13 x 19
paper size and various templates including the custom package template. No
problem.

2) In completing my test above, I exported my 2013 PAW collection as a
catalogue to an external drive, then hooked that external drive up to the
MacBook Pro, imported, then printed using a custom package template on 13 x 19
inch paper. No problems.

3) From the iMac desktop, I was able to print from Previews and Photoshop
Elements 11, though because I never print from Elements, I had to learn by
trial and error how to choose the settings I wanted. Ugh, much prefer printing
from Lightroom, but I suppose with more practice, I’ll get the hang of printing
from Elements.

4) I did call Epson and explained the situation, and the guy said if it’s
printing in other applications and on a different computer, then the chances
are strong something is wrong with the copy of Lightroom 5 that I downloaded.
Seems logical and is what Godfrey suggested.

5) Of course, this means I have to contemplate uninstalling Lightroom 5 on my
iMac and then reinstalling Lightroom 5 on my iMac, and *that* thought terrifies
me!!! However . . .

6) This might be a good time to address an issue I’ve been avoiding: general
photo housekeeping and a possible rethink about my photo management, which
isn’t so good. Anyway . . .

7) Before I uninstall Lightroom 5 on my iMac—which is just dragging the app
icon to the trash, right?—does any one have any thoughts or recommendations? I
have just backed up my catalogues, which are only a few. I’d like to call
Adobe and tell them I’m going to do this so there’s no problem with a
redownload. I have really fast internet now—55 mbs, so I’m not worried about
download.

8) I’m not going to do this today or tomorrow obviously, but I will have to
address this within the week. I can’t print now anyway because I’m out of some
ink cartridges—of course!

So if you have any thoughts or advice, I’d be grateful.

Big cheers, Christine

Uninstalling Lightroom is a piece of cake, Christine. Just drag it to the trash
and empty the trash. Don't need to do anything else … don't move your catalog
folder or disturb the other Adobe stuff in your account's Library folder. Just
drag the app to the trash and empty the trash.

Than re-install LR 5.3 release. No need to call Adobe … Lightroom does not do
the phone home thing that PSCS does. Download a fresh copy as many times as
you need, it's no biggie because LR is only a couple hundred Mbytes, not Gbytes
like PSCS.

That's it. It should take you all of twenty minutes, including the download, at
most. Do it now, it'll put your mind at ease. After you finish the
installation, just double click on your usual catalog file and it should wake
up exactly as you left it.

This is not a big deal. :-)

Thanks for the feedback. Even at 500mm there was a lot of extra
room in the frame so I just centered the bird and used the center
autofocus point then did my composition when I cropped, so I can
easily recompose with the bird further to the right in the frame.

I brought the bigma to work today. Using what I learned on Friday,
plus a lens with twice the max focal length (500 vs 250mm), I took far
fewer frames, but I think the results were a lot better.

I think that artistically, this is the best of the lot:
 http://www.flickr.com/photos/ellarsee/11526987596/

Here is today's set of 16:
 http://www.fluidr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157638969196746/

And for those that want to do a side by side of the tamron 18-250
versus the sigma 50-500, these are the ones I shot last week
 http://www.fluidr.com/photos/ellarsee/sets/72157638889151025/

 Observations:
Even in these days of ridiculously high resolution sensors,
 focal length matters.

Particularly at high resolution on my big monitor, a few of the photos
looked just a bit rough in the noise department. It turns out that
they were shot at ISO 6400. The twenty first century has done some
 very good things for photography.

Even so, I really should have used my monopod so that I could have
dropped the shutter speed and gotten more depth of field or a lower
 ISO.

Well, hell, if Stan's iMac can boot off external USB drives then he'll
be in great shape. Since older Macs can only boot from Firewire I
assumed that newer ones would have a similar restriction like only
booting from Thunderbolt. There's usually some sort of issue with

You should probably try that first, but you may want to delete the

There might also be something broken in the system Library folder, but

1. Have you tried a permissions repair? Followed by a restart?
2. If/when you delete the LR5, do a permissions repair before and after the

3. And again after the installation.

Deleting the application support folder is unlikely to solve anything.

However, after deleting the existing LR apps and re-installing LR, running a
file system verification and disk permissions repair is actually a good idea,
particularly if you did an OS X operating system install or update recently.

For the startup volume, you generally want to do this after rebooting from the
OS X recovery volume. If you're interested, send me a note and I'll write you
explicit instructions.

Still, it is nice to see the accolades.

Thanks for the feedback. Even at 500mm there was a lot of extra
room in the frame so I just centered the bird and used the center
autofocus point then did my composition when I cropped, so I can
easily recompose with the bird further to the right in the frame.

I guess, what Ken is talking about is not the framing but rather how
the head is turned. I agree with that.

I like LRC10100 the most.
I think that one is what Ken referred to as the second image.
The sixth (10107) is just a bit too much straight, it needs
just a bit more turn of the head.
