Re: PESO - Colorful
Thanks to all who have looked and commented: Bruce, Malcolm, Bob, Ann, Larry, P.J. Bob: yep, I see that... I didn't see it while taking the shot, and, actually, it was sufficient challenge to convince the model to stand there at all. ;-) And that's why, Ann, the only option was to have her posing, and even that, - only for a very short period of time. I took only 1 or 2 shots.. Larry: good idea, - I might try to play with the lens correction in LR. Bruce, Malcom, P.J., Ann: this "dramatic" wall is actually a wall of a (previously small) theater. Many years ago, in 1963 it started as a student theater "Maneken" (Mannequin). They moved into the basement of this building in 1980. In 1990s and 2000s, the theater participated in a bunch of international theater festivals in Europe and USA, taking a bunch of prizes, and becoming a "municipal theater" (= professional, supported by the city) in 1992. In 2000, they moved to a new, just reconstructed building, while this older building remained for the "experimental" shows and for the "student studio" of the theater. I don't know how long ago this wall got this look (it used to be just plain white), and what's the story behind it. But in my mind it has nothing menacing. To me it is a reflection of non-conformistic spirit of this theater, or at least my image of it. The juxtaposition I mentioned is along several different vectors: B vs. color, large vs. little, angular vs. cute. Igor PS. Ann, yes, you guessed right about her. And that's one of the reasons why I am biased. ;-) On Mon, 17 Oct 2016, Igor PDML-StR wrote: http://42graphy.org/misc/Colorful_IR34606.jpg I like the juxtaposition, but I am biased on several levels. I saw a rocket launch tonight
Orbital ATK was supposed to launch an Antares supply rocket this evening at 7:40pm EDT from Wallops Island, VA going up to the ISS. It was supposed to be visible here in North Carolina. There's a high bridge near my house that gives me a low horizon to the northeast, so I went up there to see if I could spot it. The info I got from space.com said it should be high enough above the horizon to see it about 120 seconds after launch, so I expected to see something at about 7:42. There was apparently a 5 minute delay. I was just about to give up and go home at 7:47 when I spotted it. Kind of a red dot moving across the sky, but I could see the exhaust plume through my binoculars. I lost sight of it when the first stage engine shut off, and just as I was about to give up again, I spotted it when the second stage ignited. Watched for a few more minutes until it disappeared. Don't know if it got too far away for me to see or if they shut down the second stage engine. No photos. I didn't know enough to choose an appropriate lens. So I figured I'd see what it was and maybe next time I'll take a camera. Don't know if I'd have been able to capture it anyway. Doing this makes it very clear what to expect when I install the OS for real on my main system. I'd recommend anyone resisting a system upgrade do that first. Re: OT Mac OS Sierra - break anything photographic?
I haven’t had any problems with PhotoShop CS6 or Bridge on Sierra 10.12 and my late 2015 iMac 27 5K. However, Apple’s own Mail software has been problematic. Others have reported this as well. When first started under Sierra, it works fine but when clicking back to Mail list after running other software it freezes and I have to quit Mail and restar itt. I should point out that I run three different mailboxes, including comcast.com, through Apple Mail, so that may be part of the problem. The computer also crashes and restarts at times when In sleep mode. Everything else seems to be okay. My system is somewhat extreme with 6 external hard drives currently running and a second 27-inch monitor. I should have waited to upgrade, but I always get a kick out of exploring new tech. The addition of Siri is somewhat useful, although you have to click her open, so if you’re asking her to start an app, you might as well just start the app yourself. I do ask her to read my schedule. That’s useful. Hoping the first upgrade fixes the Mail and Sleep problems. Re: OT Mac OS Sierra - break anything photographic?
I can't speak to LR4.4, that's too old: I haven't run anything less than 5.x or 6.x for over a year, certainly never on anything older than macOS 10.11 El Capitan. I've been running Sierra through various alpha/beta iterations with PSCS5.1 and LR6.x for the past 9 months. The only problems I've noted (with both) are some issues with color managed printing profiles, but with LR6.4-6.6 this happened even on macOS 10.11 El Capitan. LR6.7 seems to have addressed these now, but I haven't done extensive testing yet. Otherwise, all of the apps I use in my image processing workflow (Lightroom, Flare, occasionally Photoshop) along with some of the display/word processing/etc apps I use have either worked flawlessly or have been updated for Sierra already. I have an existing installation of the last ever version of Aperture on one of my systems and it's still working well with Sierra. I understand that Capture One prior to version 9.3 has had some issues that have now been taken care of, but it's been a while since I tested C1. Re: OT work flow
Dave, I understand your fear... ;-) This path your are using defeats the purpose of shooting RAW. in that case, as Cotty has suggested, - just shoot JPEGs. If you want to benefit from the RAW while using LR, you might consider using a DNG converter from Adobe. So, your work flow would be: 1. Convert RAF to DNG (that's a batch conversion, so it is easy). 2. Open DNG in LR. Two things to pay attention to: 1. Choose the version of DNG converter that supports your RAF version. (Usually the latest does.) 2. For the output, choose the option under "Compatibility" that would be compatible with your version of LR. (Just in case, for other options: You probably don't want to "Embed Original Raw File, and you probably don't want to use "Lossy Compression") Typically (at least on Windows), the options seem to be preserved, so you don't have to choose them each time. You can download the DNG converter either directly from the ftp site (using your web-browser): ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/dng/ Choose "Win" or "Mac" folder in there, and download the latest version. Or from this page: Windows: https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106=Windows Mac: https://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106=Mac Hope this helps, Igor David J Brooks Mon, 17 Oct 2016 07:46:35 -0700 wrote: Due to my resistance to upgrade my OS i am having to resort to using Silky Pix to work on my RAF files from the X30. If only dance events actually had the money to pay. It's nice that they are now contacting me ahead of time and offering me discounts off my registration, at least from the "it's nice to be appreciated" point of view. Apart from the musicians and the instructors, these events tend to be all volunteer with even the local dancers providing housing for people from out of town. I mostly do the photography as a way of giving back to the community. I can't claim much credit on the lighting, that is what was there. The LED lights were nice in some ways, but they really have their own sets of challenges. It helps that the room was reasonably bright anyways. To me it would be as much torture as shooting a wedding. There's a big difference, I'd go to this event if I wasn't photographing it. Just go one step up the directories in the link you provided to here: http://www.metz-mecatech.de/en/lighting/firmware-download-flash-units/mecablitz-58-af-2-digital.html and there are links to eminently followable instructions for both Windows and MAC.
