Hi Dan,

It's a very nice moment and combination of poses.
However, the dark clothing of the two women gets lost in the dark
background. As a result, these ladies have a "ghosty" appearance.

It might be possible to enhance this at the state of conversion to B, by
boosting the color channel that is different in those dresses from the
background, to create some contrast.

I think, if you can "separate" them from the background, the photo will be
stronger.

I am not sure, - but probably "presence" slider in LR (or "unsharp" in PS)
would help creating this separation, but you might try...

Wouldn't want it on my wall.  Best viewed on the small screen... I

I also think that Ken's photo is gorgeous. And, in my mind, it also
goes into "reflections" and "silhouettes" categories.

(While one can find shadows upon careful look, the focus is on the two
features I mentioned.)

When I was looking at the gallery for the first time, yesterday, - by the
time I looked at Don's photo, I had a filling that I just had seen
something from that spot. Then I realized that it was because of Alan's
photo.

Interesting that you got the Cyrillic letters, Ann. Perhaps it was
Mark's email that scrubbed them out rather than the PDML Server.

My father's family was Eastern Orthodox. We celebrated Christmas in
December with my Mother's family and Christmas in January with my
father's family. plus we had my mother's birthday, my father's birthday,
and my birthday, all between Dec 10 and Dec 23. My sister, born on the
fourth of July, always felt cheated during the winter holidays.

Re: January PUG is up

2018-01-08 Thread Marnie (aka Doe)

Think I've seen Ann's Broome before. Very nice.

Ken's is, of course, beautiful. And Jorge's Giant Shadow is very
interesting, partly because it's an unusual and interesting statute. You
have to look twice to realize the man kneeling in front is another statue.

The one I got the biggest kick out of was Touch Down by Brian. It hasn't
landed yet, and the shadow looks like a toy plane.

PDML Photo Annual - Week One Update

2018-01-08 Thread Mark Roberts
We've had a pretty good level of participation for the first week. I'm
hoping this continues so we don't have a last-minute rush at the end
of the submission period this year. (Hey, I can dream.) And we've had
some really outstanding work sent in so far this year (look up who's
submitted photos and you'll probably be able to guess who the suspects
are).

Anyway, you can send your own photos at the usual URL:

I made it B to make it more dramatic. I may do a GESO later.

Thanks, Rick!

I particularly favor Ken's, too, though thought it more in the
"reflection" category.  It's a gorgeous shot.

Don's is the other I'm most fond of.

all in all a handsome gallery
