Re: OT: Just when things were going well...
Hi Ken, Actually, that car has never been in the shop since I've owned it, except to have new brakes put on. It was over 100,000 miles without a hitch. And I am not the biggest stickler when it comes to vehicle maintenance. I'm not sure if this is going to be worth pursuing -- though the existence of media footage and photos might be enough to tweak the conscience of a bean-counting corporate lawyer. I'll have to call around to some more attorneys to see if there's anyone willing to take the case. There just aren't a whole lot of them in my area, and the one I think most likely to take the case is -- well, let's just say there's some bad blood between us. I once worked for him, and the split wasn't amicable. I'll weigh my options. I doubt they'll be doing anything to the car in the next couple of days. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep you posted as events warrant. -- Walt On 10/28/2010 7:39 PM, Ken Waller wrote: Kenneth Waller http://www.pentaxphotogallery.com/kennethwaller - Original Message - From: Walter Gilbert ldott...@gmail.com Subject: Re: OT: Just when things were going well... Now, it's a matter of finding what to do about it. I called an attorney friend of mine, but he doesn't work in that are of the law. So, I need to do a bit more research to find out where to go next. Was any repair done to the car recently? Are you the original owner? Did you receive a recall notice? Take your Vehicle Identification Number to a Chrysler dealer and get copies of any recall notices. If you're going to pursue this you need to preserve the remains. Ideally, you should have a vehicle fire expert examine the vehicle, this will cost $100 to 250/hour. Photograph the underhood remains. Do nut disturb the evidence. It sounds like you may have a case here given the recalls on the car. Be advised that without a vehicle for the manufacturer to examine, you have a tough road to hoe and in any event it will take time and effort on your part to see any return on your effort. If you pursue this legally, get a lawyer that handles product liability, ideally one who has handled identical cases, a web search should help you find one. Good luck, I hope it pans out for you. Thanks again. -- Walt On 10/28/2010 2:47 PM, eckinator wrote: http://www.motortrend.com/cars/1999/plymouth/breeze/recalls/index.html recall number 09E043000 THIS CONDITION MAY RESULT IN A VEHICLE FIRE. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

Re: OT: Just when things were going well...
I'm not sure how it started. I suspect it was something electrical, though there's no way of knowing for sure. I did notice a little smoke coming from under the hood when I got out of the car, but figured it was just some oil burning off the manifold from when I put a little in it a few days before. I thought it was odd and figured the oil would have burned off already by then, but didn't give it a whole lot of thought. Turns out I was right. Sorry to hear of your loss, Walter. If you have any thoughts of seeking relief from the manufacturer or through the courts, you have to make sure the car isn't scrapped.
