[SlimDevices: Plugins] COMPOSERSORT. How to activate?

2011-02-07 Thread Zetlandpaul

Hi, looking for help on user a sort field.

I have updated COMPOSERSORT in my music files. Thus I have tags such
as

COMPOSER = Alberto Ginastera
COMPOSERSORT = Ginastera, Alberto

COMPOSER =  Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
COMPOSERSORT =  Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus

I have performed a full scan (Clear Library and rescan everything).

I have created some menus using Erland's Custom Browse using the
Composers and Dynamic Tags templates.

In neither case are the menu results being sorted by COMPOSERSORT. E.g.
Alberto Ginastera is at the beginning rather then with the Gs and
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is at the end rather than with the Ms.

What else do I have to do in order to get COMPOSERSORT recognised?

I have read somewhere that *SORT tags are picked up automatically but
this does not seem to be the case for me.

I'm running SB Sever 7.5.3 and also the Custom Tags and Mixed Tags
plugins to pick up a WORK tag. This is working ok (I'm not using a
WORKSORT tag).

ThanksPaul

I use jpg. The track file format is FLAC. Art work is in average

I've realized that switching players sometimes takes some time until

There must be something about 7.5.3, reading about a lot of issues with
disconnecting players here, especially Boom.

It's normal that there can be a little delay when loading the big cover
for NowPlaying but that one should not be the issue.

I thought about it and it could _theoretically_ be something else:
could you check whether your list of albums is OK or whether the first
100 albums are repeated over and over again? If it's this, it will be
fixed in the upcoming release, too.

This happens with 7.6 and it happened before with 7.5.3. I've both

With my album list everythings seem to be ok.

Regarding switching players. I understand if a new track was loaded,
that it takes some time to show the picture. But for the current track,
I thought this one was cached.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread

2011-02-07 Thread pippin

No, iPeng never caches the cover art for NowPlaying. It just changes too
often to be worthwhile.
Although... The server should still cache it.

But if you switch players there is also something else going on that
puts a bit of load on the server and that is loading of the current
playlist. For some reason that is incredibly slow in SBS which is one
reason why iPeng doesn't cache it for all players.

7.6 has new artwork handling which has indeed had some trouble with
scaling in the past, I wonder whether something might be broken again.
Will check, yet it's the SBS version I also use most of the time and I
haven't had any trouble recently. Strange.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels

2011-02-07 Thread cliver

After a bit of confusion (on my part ;-) I got the plugin to load
properly.

One thing I noticed while doing it though is that I can't seem to
restart SBS without restarting PC. The Start Server button on SBS
cvontrol panel does nothing and running sbs.exe says it is restarting
but doesn't. A restart and all is fine. Any idea why?

On the plugin I have tried it as is and created a favourite with the
url
vlc://84200dvbprogram=18560Title=BBC Radio 2Subtitle=Easy
Listening

When I set it playing from the webui it plays audio localy on the
server for as few seconds then goes silent.
The audio is comming from the wrong station as per the program
perameter though.
On the webui and on the SB Touch it shows as playing but there is no
audio.
I am attaching a log file for your interest.
I think it is just a matter of tweaking the vlc command lines to get
the stream going properly.
I will experiment with it and let you know how I get on.

Regards
Clive

How will the plugin handle other SB's when 1. trying to open the same

Strange about the vlcplay logging - perhaps it wasn't persistent between
SBS restarts ?

My worry about dvb was the sampling frequency of the source since the
conf file fixed the output at 44.1kHz - I wasn't sure whether source
was a different frequency e.g. 32kHz and vlc didn't resample. You'll
notice if this is a problem as audio will be either too fast or too
slow.

In FileTypes you could disable using VLC/Flac and so compress to MP3 -
less bandwidth.

One minor thing I have noticed is that I am not getting the subtitle

Assuming there is no bug, subtitle is really Artist and will only
show in the MoreInfo menu and on Web display. You can get it on SB
display if you are using one of 3rd party screen saver.

I think either 2nd instance will find vlc already in use and may just
end up playing silence or stopping. Another possibility is 2nd
instance will change the dvb parameters and you will get two vlc
streams tuned to same channel. This may be a dvb driver issue. Does
the driver support playing many different streams from same
freq/program - a bit like you can play many http streams off one
network interface. The only definitive answer is to try it and see -
nothing will get broken and at worst a PC reboot may be needed.

You can sync player if you want same stream out of both.

You did the hard work getting the vlc streaming. Many users give up

indifference_engine;608407 Wrote:
I'm pretty sure it's a memory issue - your SqueezeIR configuration is
just too big for the Controller to hold in its cache. There has been a
report of a similar issue on the Touch (caused by a list of radio

 http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=81207. All I can
suggest is to either continue using the older version of SqueezeIR
until I can figure out a way to get round the problem (I'm not hopeful
though as the hardware is a pretty fundamental constraint), or make
your SqueezeIR config smaller (lose a lirc file).
I've done a little more digging and it looks like it's not a memory
issue - the cache is being written and read correctly and doesn't max
out the memory or filesystem.

The problem looks to be that SqueezeIR takes too long to load with a
big configuration and the Controller's watchdog (a little program that
stops the controller from rebooting to guard against the system
hanging) thinks the system has stopped responding and initiates a
reboot. This could happen even without a cache but the config would
have to be bigger as the SqueezeIR startup happens in two chunks with a
breather inbetween if it has to download the config. If the config is
already cached then it loads it and interprets it in one go. I'm
looking into how to prod the watchdog to tell it that the system is
still alive.

Tree - fixes for accented characters, especially in music folders and radios
Tree - fixes for radio icons becoming out of sync
CoverChooser - optimisations for non-layout mode

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels

2011-02-07 Thread bpa

If/When this happens again. After stopping the stream - clear the
playlist to make sure SB player is stopped. Then check using task
manager or process explorer to see if any vlc process is still
runnning.

With other tuner cards I've seen some processes belonging to vlc left
after main process has died. In those cases it occurred when channel
surfing going from one favorite (i.e.frequency) to another quickly.
VLC doesn't seem to handle stop /start rapidly very well.

The easiest way is probably just to create 3 playlists with SQL

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] COMPOSERSORT. How to activate?

2011-02-07 Thread erland

I'm not sure if COMPOSERSORT is supported by standard SBS.

If it isn't, you probably need to do as follows to get it through
Custom Scan.

1. In Custom Scan/Custom Tag scanning module, make sure the fields
contains:
- Sort tag mapping: COMPOSER=COMPOSERSORT
- Tags to scan: COMPOSER
2. In Custom Scan/Mixed Tag scanning module, make sure to empty the
Composer tags setting.
3. Perform a rescan with Custom Scan.

This should result in that the Custom Browse based menus are sorted
according to COMPOSERSORT.

My Mac has never been able to sleep on its own. It is known that Energy
Saver doesn't work for some people, but there have been various
suggestions for the cause, none of which seemed to be my problem. I use
a third-party utility (Please Sleep, but there are others)) to force
sleep after the time set in Energy Saver. Server Power Control, with
Jiggler or Caffeine, than prevents sleep when my Squeezebox is playing,
and Really Prevent Standby used to work.

As for apps becoming paid, that's the developers' decision. Apple does
permit free apps on the Mac App Store, and I have several. I guess that
the developers now feel that they can charge a very small account and
make a decent amount of money. Previously it might not have been worth
their while to charge.

indifference_engine;609050 Wrote:

I agree. As SqueezeIR is working very well with my workaround, I also
think it's not a memmory issue. And yes, the controller needs a lot of
time to start ;o)

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux

2011-02-07 Thread alavarre1

Again take one step at a time.
:-)

After checking privileges - you should now check what ALSA devices can
be used to record PC audio with normal OpenSuse application. If
necessary reconfigure ALSA to make sure there is a device and it has
 the correct volume.
I can successfully record using *krecord*. It saves the audio to a
buffer that I then save as *ALSA test.wav*. I then can play the file
with *Kaffeine*.

(If I try to play the buffer directly from *krecord* it complains
*Error: can't open soundcard: Device or resource busy. But [B]Kaffeine*
can play a wav file, even while *krecord* is open.)

To record audio from PC speaker first start an application playing audio
 - I typically use an internet radio. Then start a Recorder application
or Audacity and click record/monitor button to check the levels
histogram which should move in accordance with the music you hear from
 PC speakers.
The levels do indeed move. With *krecord* the levels move from the
speaker even if the record function has not been started.

Start with Capture enabled and the default device in the recorder.

If the levels do not move then you have to
 1. Stop recorder and check device being used to record then start
 recorder again
 2. open alsamixer or amixer and adjust audio/gain levels for relevant
devices to make sure they are at 100%. Check capture is enabled.
 3. If recording meters do not move then stop recorder and change
recording device and repeat steps 1-3 until you have tested all
 devices.

If no device seems to record - you need to check your Alsa
 configuration.

This is not a problem. We can record and have recorded to *ALSA
test.wav*. I have recorded both microphone and internet radio.

With the internet radio the music does get to the SB with about a
second latency, but is still very distorted and overridden by the hum.

Thanks again, Andy

this point, we believe the service quality issues are intermittent and
we will continue to actively monitor our service quality and make

recent performance problems as quickly as possible and can assure you
this issue is getting top priority.

We’ve identified and implemented immediate service improvements that
are already resulting in improved service quality. Simultaneously, we
are working diligently on a solution to provide enhanced reliability
and performance going forward. You can monitor on our progress through
Twitter (@Napster).

Thanks for using Napster!

Still doesn't work properly one week later though. I'm reluctant to

Is it because this doesn't affect US Logitech users that this is

I should note that those using Sirius Canada are okay since the
 Canadian site hasn't changed.

Thanks... It's too bad SiriusXm seems to like mucking with their
infrastructure so much. The Neil Potter plugin for XM worked fine and
the streaming was rock solid. Now this transition and new design and
it's such a hassle to get things working and all the plugin and 3rd
party app developers have to catch up.

Anyway the new app may be flash but in the end it's always WMP
streaming under the covers, from what I've seen (e.g. the old XMRO app
was also flash.)

On another note, still haven't found a Windows Gadget for Sirius,

Yup, I just noticed this today. I'll take a look at fixing the plugin
as soon as I get a chance. Seeing that someone else already has gives
me hope though. I was thinking that since the plugin is flash now I
was pretty much screwed. We'll see.

I should note that those using Sirius Canada are okay since the
 Canadian site hasn't changed.

I just took a quick look at it and the upside is they seem to have
switched to something XML-RPC based so I won't have to deal with
parsing HTML anymore. The downside of course is that I need to
essentially start from scratch. I'll see what I can do, but this may
end up taking me a while to fix. For the US site you can always go
back to the official plugin, though you'll lose the ability to stream
different channels to different players.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Is XM radio down again?

2011-02-07 Thread ckllrvlk

I converted over from the XM plug-in and I am also getting stream
stopped at 1 to 2 hours. This is most irritating. Anyone else having
the problem or have a solution?
