[SlimDevices: Plugins] COMPOSERSORT. How to activate?
Hi, looking for help on user a sort field. I have updated COMPOSERSORT in my music files. Thus I have tags such as COMPOSER = Alberto Ginastera COMPOSERSORT = Ginastera, Alberto COMPOSER = Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart COMPOSERSORT = Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus I have performed a full scan (Clear Library and rescan everything). I have created some menus using Erland's Custom Browse using the Composers and Dynamic Tags templates. In neither case are the menu results being sorted by COMPOSERSORT. E.g. Alberto Ginastera is at the beginning rather then with the Gs and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is at the end rather than with the Ms. What else do I have to do in order to get COMPOSERSORT recognised? I have read somewhere that *SORT tags are picked up automatically but this does not seem to be the case for me. I'm running SB Sever 7.5.3 and also the Custom Tags and Mixed Tags plugins to pick up a WORK tag. This is working ok (I'm not using a WORKSORT tag). Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] iPeng support thread
No, iPeng never caches the cover art for NowPlaying. It just changes too often to be worthwhile. Although... The server should still cache it. But if you switch players there is also something else going on that puts a bit of load on the server and that is loading of the current playlist. For some reason that is incredibly slow in SBS which is one reason why iPeng doesn't cache it for all players. 7.6 has new artwork handling which has indeed had some trouble with scaling in the past, I wonder whether something might be broken again. Will check, yet it's the SBS version I also use most of the time and I haven't had any trouble recently. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] (UK) Freeview radio channels
After a bit of confusion (on my part ;-) I got the plugin to load properly. One thing I noticed while doing it though is that I can't seem to restart SBS without restarting PC. The Start Server button on SBS cvontrol panel does nothing and running sbs.exe says it is restarting but doesn't. A restart and all is fine. Any idea why? On the plugin I have tried it as is and created a favourite with the url vlc://84200dvbprogram=18560Title=BBC Radio 2Subtitle=Easy Listening When I set it playing from the webui it plays audio localy on the server for as few seconds then goes silent. The audio is comming from the wrong station as per the program perameter though. On the webui and on the SB Touch it shows as playing but there is no audio. I am attaching a log file for your interest. I think it is just a matter of tweaking the vlc command lines to get the stream going properly. I will experiment with it and let you know how I get on. Set up several favourites with different freq/station perameters and all tune and play perfectly. I'm having the odd buffering problem but that's my wireless network getting congested. Strange about the vlcplay logging - perhaps it wasn't persistent between SBS restarts ? All I can suggest is to either continue using the older version of SqueezeIR until I can figure out a way to get round the problem (I'm not hopeful though as the hardware is a pretty fundamental constraint), or make your SqueezeIR config smaller (lose a lirc file). I've done a little more digging and it looks like it's not a memory issue - the cache is being written and read correctly and doesn't max out the memory or filesystem. The problem looks to be that SqueezeIR takes too long to load with a big configuration and the Controller's watchdog (a little program that stops the controller from rebooting to guard against the system hanging) thinks the system has stopped responding and initiates a reboot. This could happen even without a cache but the config would have to be bigger as the SqueezeIR startup happens in two chunks with a breather inbetween if it has to download the config. If the config is already cached then it loads it and interprets it in one go. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] COMPOSERSORT. How to activate?
I'm not sure if COMPOSERSORT is supported by standard SBS. If it isn't, you probably need to do as follows to get it through Custom Scan. 1. In Custom Scan/Custom Tag scanning module, make sure the fields contains: - Sort tag mapping: COMPOSER=COMPOSERSORT - Tags to scan: COMPOSER 2. In Custom Scan/Mixed Tag scanning module, make sure to empty the Composer tags setting. 3. Perform a rescan with Custom Scan. I use a third-party utility (Please Sleep, but there are others)) to force sleep after the time set in Energy Saver. Server Power Control, with Jiggler or Caffeine, than prevents sleep when my Squeezebox is playing, and Really Prevent Standby used to work. As for apps becoming paid, that's the developers' decision. Apple does permit free apps on the Mac App Store, and I have several. I guess that the developers now feel that they can charge a very small account and make a decent amount of money. I'm looking into how to prod the watchdog to tell it that the system is still alive. I agree. As SqueezeIR is working very well with my workaround, I also think it's not a memmory issue. And yes, the controller needs a lot of time to start ;o) -- chincheta0815 chincheta0815's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=42904 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79524 ___ plugins mailing list plugins@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/plugins

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: WaveInput for Linux
Again take one step at a time. :-) After checking privileges - you should now check what ALSA devices can be used to record PC audio with normal OpenSuse application. If necessary reconfigure ALSA to make sure there is a device and it has the correct volume. I can successfully record using *krecord*. It saves the audio to a buffer that I then save as *ALSA test.wav*. I then can play the file with *Kaffeine*. (If I try to play the buffer directly from *krecord* it complains *Error: can't open soundcard: Device or resource busy. But [B]Kaffeine* can play a wav file, even while *krecord* is open.) To record audio from PC speaker first start an application playing audio - I typically use an internet radio. Then start a Recorder application or Audacity and click record/monitor button to check the levels histogram which should move in accordance with the music you hear from PC speakers. The levels do indeed move. With *krecord* the levels move from the speaker even if the record function has not been started. Start with Capture enabled and the default device in the recorder. If the levels do not move then you have to 1. Stop recorder and check device being used to record then start recorder again 2. open alsamixer or amixer and adjust audio/gain levels for relevant devices to make sure they are at 100%. Check capture is enabled. 3. If recording meters do not move then stop recorder and change recording device and repeat steps 1-3 until you have tested all devices. If no device seems to record - you need to check your Alsa configuration. This is not a problem. We can record and have recorded to *ALSA test.wav*. I have recorded both microphone and internet radio. With the internet radio the music does get to the SB with about a second latency, but is still very distorted and overridden by the hum. Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Napster working?
I got this reply on 28th January from Napster:- Thanks for contacting Napster Customer Support. We apologize for the continued problems you may be experiencing. At this point, we believe the service quality issues are intermittent and we will continue to actively monitor our service quality and make additional improvements as quickly as we can. As stated in our email of December 30th to all Napster subscribers utilizing a Sonos or Logitech device with their account, we are working diligently to resolve the recent performance problems as quickly as possible and can assure you this issue is getting top priority. Weve identified and implemented immediate service improvements that are already resulting in improved service quality. Simultaneously, we are working diligently on a solution to provide enhanced reliability and performance going forward. You can monitor on our progress through Twitter (@Napster).
