Hi Arnaud,

LMS will not start with Python 5.28.3 anmore. Please check if you have
this installed and read the release note.
Pinkdot stopped the development of LMS on Synology since this change
would cause enormous adaption work on his side. A pity, but I fully
understand.
There is no easy workaround. Fory myself I decided to by a Raspberry Pi
with piCorePlayer.
You may want to check the '8.0.* thread'

Hi pinkdot,

Thanks for the reply, I think I may have been playing around with
'Daplile' when I used LMS before, so I assume it had a player in it.
I have uninstalled LMS from my nas now and instead am using their own
'Media Server' app - which seems to be working very well.
Prior to trying LMS this time I was using Minim server, but since the
last few updates it seemed to get a bit sluggish.

I don't have my PS audio anymore, it was the DirectStream Jr. - I'm now
using a Naim 272 which is a streamer/preamp.
I'll see how it goes with 'Media Server' for now.

Thanks for the info and help.

Kind regards
Roy.

You need at least 1 player somewhere in your network, on a PC, official
Logitech hardware, or a Raspberry with squeezelite. There is no option
to add a client like squeezelite to your nas AFAIK.

Do you still use the PS audio streamer?

Hi, Sorry!
I thought this thread merged into the 8.0 thread, my apologies!
I will happily move threads, - will someone tell me how to do it

"Do you have any players?"

To be honest I don't know, I haven't installed any.
I used LMS about 2 years ago by just installing it from the package
center and used it witha PS audio streamer, - and controlled it via
squeezer app on my phone.
I assumed that the player was installed with LMS. Can I install a
software player on my synology that would work?

Hi all,

First post here, I hope you can help me.
Ive just installed LMS ver 8 on my synology nas DS3617xs as per
instructions at the begining of this thread. There used to be an older
version but it seems synology have taken it out of the package centre.
Any ways, the install seemed to go ok, and i connected to my music
library ok, but it does not seem to be able to find a player.
Do I need a separate install of squeezelite now on the synology, and if
so how do i do this? - Or do I need to do something else?
I class myself as a beginner with this and would appreciate your help if
possable please.

The new packages are indeed not signed. You have to set the trust level
to 'all publishers'
In Package Center: go to ->settings -> General -> set trust level to
'any publisher'.

Thanks! I was confused because the package on SourceForge has a
different name than the ones on your server - LogitechMediaServer vs
SqueezeCenter. The upgrade went well :-) The DSD package isn't supported
yet, but that was to be expected. That was the only package that was
disabled after the upgrade.
One oddity though, the LMS is telling me there's an upgrade to version
1584422335, but that's the one I have installed right now. That's just
cosmetic of course - doesn't change the fact that 8.0.0 is running
great.

Pinkdot, once again thank you very much for all the effort you've put
and you're putting into the project.
I'm still(?) on 7.9.2-0030 from your Sourceforge page. Is it possible to
update to the 8.x.x packages via this package (i.e. installing an .spk
from the Package Center), or will it be necessary to add your repo to
the Synology's package center and reinstall/reconfigure the LMS in order
to upgrade? I don't mind installing it manually by the way, so that perk
of using your repo in the package center isn't really applicable - yet.

equal to the 7.9.2 release, enjoy:

If you have 0029 installed, you will be noticief of the new version in
de LMS webui. Otherwise the download is available on my server.

*
*Only for testing purposes: 8.0.0 version of LmsRepack**
For the adventurous I have a *x86_64* LmsRepack 8.0.0 version available.
*DONT* use next to another version of LmsUpdate or Synology beta package
of LMS!

This might be of interrest for some willing to test and feedback on the
online music service intergration plugin:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?111442-Online-music-service-integration-how-to-test

To install: go to Settings in package center, and add

LmsRepack will be available in the community packages tab in package
center.

As Michael points out you need to make your nas accessible to the
internet. You could buy/use 'a supported wifi dongle'
and use your phone as wifi hotspot.

Synology ds418. It crashes whether I use a pc or phone. Don't mind
testing nosb.

All we've seen so far is that there are networking issues. It doesn't
crash (the process stays in memory). But it gets stuck for a rather long
time on something.

You really need to get that box in a network where it can access the
internet. Everything else imho is a waste of time. nomysb won't help for
the plugins issue.

I am using classic mode, when browsing with Firefox. I don't have a
internet connection.

That would explain some issues. Your use of the term "crash" is a bit
confusing though. "Hang" would probably be more accurate: when you open
the plugins page LMS would try to get the latest plugin update
information from the internet. I don't know whether this is using a
reasonable timeout. But maybe it's just taking a few minutes before it
gives up.

You certainly do have some level of internet access, or you couldn't
update LMS. Why don't enable that (temporarily) to turn off all the
plugins? And once you go offline, don't touch the plugins page any more?

This has nothing to do with pinkdot's Synology packages and doesn't
really belong here.

What nas do you have?
As you requested before, I could build a 'nomysb' version for you to see
if this will make a difference. To be honest I doubt it will, but we
could use it to rule some things out.
So please let me know what nas you have and if you're willing to test

This is what I would expect if no network connection is available,
TuneIn is trying to connect to the internet. This still does not explain
why the plug-ins tab/LMS is crashing.

On what action is this happening?
- When deactivating a plug-in? Or when you enter the plugins tab?
- Does this also happen when you use the Classic skin?

One thing I find annoying about plugin updates is that when I see there
are updates available on the plugins tab I sometimes do want to postpone
one of the updates so I deliberately don't tick the box for that plugin
but it gets updated anyway when the server restarts. So effectively
there is no way to opt out of a plugin update even with automatic
updates turned off.

If the extra info will be added to the notification, that would make it
the most easiest way to know which plug-in will be updated during the

If I understand you correctly this would mean a change on the LMS side,
so not specific for Synology. There is somewhere on this forum a thread
about feature requests, might be a good place to post it there.

This is the closest guide I could find so far:

Tried googling "Logitech Media Server VPN" and variations, there seems
to be no specific guide for this that I could find ?
I'll start a new thread.

Yes www.privateinternetaccess.com is the second one, encrypt all traffic
between myself and the ISP (so ISP cannot monitor/block/log anything
e.g. piratebay). I suppose the first type of VPN - to allow access to
home network when I'm out - is what I should set up to securely remotely
access LMS ? Any guides for this ? Thank you again for your help :)

I still suggest starting a new thread or adding to the "don't forward"
thread with some of your network details / LMS logs to see if there is a
way to configure things so that the issue goes away.

I can't readily access your VPN provider site - my ISP blocks access to
it.

Is its job to allow you to access your home network when you are out -
or to somewhat hide your details when you visit other sites?
If only the 2nd one then it is not what you need for LMS access.

If you read through the (long) thread about not allowing access you will
see some well hidden information about how to override this check in
LMS.
It is not shouted about here because of the possible problems when doing
it.
But - by reading the thread to find it you will have learned more about
what it does and why.

Yes, with username and password required. If anyone knew my
www.synologyddns.com:9002 address and went to that address, they would
get the username+login prompt ? That, plus using
www.privateinternetaccess.com clients for any and all devices, should be
sufficient, shouldn't it ?

Or could you explain more what you mean about using a VPN, is it
different than what I'm using from www.privateinternetaccess.com ? If
so, how do I set it up ? Are the LMS Advanced - Security settings, where
username and password is set, explained in detail anywhere ?

Thank you very much for your help! :)

If a neighbour knew your public IP address and went to it with a browser
on port 9000 would they get LMS login prompt?

If "anyone in the world" can access my LMS ? Well, I have username +
password protection turned on, and always use the
privateinernetaccess.com VPN client on all devices, so I suppose not ?

I want and need to be able to access my at-home LMS from any network
anywhere.

What kind of "network settings" are you asking for ? Where would I find
them ? Please check www.privateinernetaccess.com, as I said I use that
for all devices, plus I have username+pw set up on LMS, is that not
sufficient ?

Are these the relevant settings that people refer to when they say "use
a VPN" when they talk about using LMS through the internet ? Any guide
on settings please ? As noted, I already use a VPN from
privateinternetaccess.com that encrypts everything, is that NOT
sufficient ? According to previous poster, the 7.9.2 pinkdot version
completely prohibits any outside internet access (including, apparently,
in this case, access from my internal LAN but using the Synology ddns
address).

If the below is what I need (or should, instead of port forwarding,
anyway) set up to have more secure access to LMS from anywhere, links to
any guides or an explanation here would be MUCH apprecated! Thank you!

Can anyone in the world access your LMS installation?

If yes - then there is a chance that they will (there are plenty of
examples) and will have fun changing your settings, playing music loudly
and setting a password to make it difficult for you to get back in to
LMS to fix things.

If you have no intention of accessing your LMS from outside you local
network and access has been left open by mistake ... then close down
that access route.
If you do want it to be accessible and you think that you have protected
access to your LMS via a VPN (or similar) then please post network
settings with some explanation so that the problem can be diagnosed
further (assuming it remains) ... and probably in a new thread.

Thanks for your reply!

Surely I should be able to decide this myself ? I don't understand what
people mean when they say "use a VPN". I use the
www.privateinternetaccess.com VPN on all my devices, is that what you
mean ? Or do you mean something like this stuff on my Asus router ?

If the latter, any link or explanation for my detailed instructions
please ?

The LMS 7.9.2 version installed on my DietPi Odroid XU4 works with
forwarded ports just fine.

Just installed this package, used the mirror source and the link
specifically for my NAS build, DS415PLAY, it installed suspiciously
quickly and when I click on the link I get taken to
http://ddns.synology.me:9002/settings/server/wizard.html this showing
this message:

403 Forbidden: settings/server/wizard.html

Any tips ? Just a question of waiting a while or rebooting perhaps ? I
previously had the SynoCommunity older version build installed, just
installed that, rebooted, then installed this.

Great job anyway by the way, I'm sure I'll get it working! Will this
package auto-update ? How come you don't make a repo so the package can
be added to and show up in Package Center ?

Thanks for a great job!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Synology 7.9.2 packages

Currently I'm testing LmsRepack again to run on my server next to
LmsUpdate/ Logitech Media Server.

As some of you might know, LmsRepack once was brought to life to make it
available via the Package Center. This way you can install LmsRepack as
any other package and Package Center will notify you when an update is
available.

If you want to test LmsRepack, please do! Some feedback would be nice :)

A few things to know before you start:

- LmsRepack will not use you current settings, library nor plugins of
LmsUpdate or Logitech Media Server. So, you'll start with a clean
  install!
- If you have LmsUpdate or Logitech Media Server running: STOP IT,
before installing LmsRepack. You DON'T have to remove it! You can
leave both installed on your server as long as only 1 service is
  running!
- Add 'Location' https://pinkdot.myds.me/sspks/ to the Package Sources
in Package Center settings. 'Name' can be set to anything. After
adding the location refresh Package Center and LmsRepack will appear
  under 'Community'.
- Port 9000 is used for LmsRepack (instead of 9002).
- You can remove LmsRepack just like any other package using the
  Package Center.
- Yes, it's only available for X86_64 nas!

Greetings,

Martin

Although I do seem to be the only one that struggled! :(

Just in case it helps anyone else migrating from a Windows environment,
paths now appear case sensitive. Not an issue for the main library as
you're prompted to browse to to it. But when editing playlists to the
new path, it took me a while to figure out that the default music folder
wasn't recognised when specified as *M*usic in the playlist. And of
course all backslashes now need to be replaced by forwardslashes. Hurrah
for Wordpad's find & replace...

Thanks for your efforts Martin, it's greatly appreciated. :)

I will look at that more in-depth next time. I did check it and noted
that I had about 75+ instances of one process running under LMS but I
can’t remember exactly which process it was. I do believe it was related
to the Shairplay plugin.

OK, next time check the running services under Logitech media Server in
you Resource Monitor in DSM. This might give you some more information
if this is related to LMS or some other processes/services running on
your nas.
In the screenshot you see an example of LMS running Spotty en converting
the OGG stream to FLAC.

Hello All,

I have had my LMS set up on my Synology NAS for many months and aside
from an issue getting Shairplay to work, it's been working flawlessly
for me until today. Today, I went to stream music using my iPeng app,
and couldn't find any players. I checked my Synology NAS and noted that
the CPU was running at 100%. When checking the services, LMS was using
over 85% of the CPU. I stopped the plugin and it went back down to 8%. I
started it again and it shot back up to 100%. I tried updating to the
newest version, 7.9.1-168.0027, but as soon as it installed, it shot
back up to 100%. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the plugin, and that
seems to have solved the CPU usage issue, however, I am now stuck at the
the loading screen for LMS with the words "Loading Logitech Media
Server..." and a spinning wheel. I can't find any players in iPeng,
despite all of my player being online and reachable via IP address
(running piCorePlayer 5.0, FWIW). I'm at a total loss and am not very
good at troubleshooting these types of issues, but great at following
directions.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

I find it a bit odd to see you making a comment here, and not in the
'--nomysqueezebox thread'. But please say so, if you don't want us to
use or promote --nomysqueezebox.

I've left similar comments every now and then. Whenever I see the
"feature" getting too much attention I add to it. My bad :-).

One thing I would like to know is if Logitech is still using this shared
data, and if this is compliant the General Data Protection Regulation
(GDPR).

Yes, it is. I'm not the expert myself, but we do have experts asking me
questions and telling me what to do in this regard.

First of all: there's no data collected for the sake of collecting data.
I removed analytics code years ago.

https://github.com/Logitech/slimserver/commit/2f7cb049a594917b2406de537fc5955062bca364

The SB related websites no longer use Google Analytics and the likes. I
think we no longer pull in any resource from any outside host.

What I call "data" is what is being stored as part of the integration.
Prefs syncing and app configurations. Plus technical data like web
server log files logging requests. That's it. We don't even store prefs
about non-Logitech hardware players. It's really all about the feature
of potentially switching a player from LMS to mysb.com and back.

Second: "Logitech" as a larger organization does not actively use this
data. What I'm asked for every now and then is summarized numbers like
"how many users/devices are there". I'm likely the only one even knowing
how to get to that data. AFAIK there are only three people (including
myself) who have access to the database.

And you can easily delete your account from mysb.com.

If you didn't provide credentials in LMS but didn't apply the --nomysb
flag either, the devices would still use the image proxy on mysb.com to
speed up image resizing. All the data collected in this case is the log
entry in nginx' access.log file. That's what I'd use to estimate the
number of players out there still actively being used.

With --nomysb applied I don't have that information any more. Which
means I don't "see" those installations.

I'm sorry for this totally off-topic, and rather lengthy posting. But
you asked for it :-P. I definitely don't want to be a pain about the
nomysb flag. After all I did implement it. But as so often I didn't
consider the negative impact it might have. I considered it an easy way
for myself to make sure LMS would still run without mysb.com. Only later
I came to realize that it could also prevent me from making sure
mysb.com does not go away too soon...

In short, it disables the integration of mysqueezebox.com and all its
plugins.
Please keep in mind that the little data you're sharing by integrating
with mysb.com is the only way I have to show management how many people
still are using this stuff. Sure, you might not care about the services

Yes, I coiuld have said something more about the NOMYSB version.
All the information you need to know is here:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103210-nomysqueezebox-disable-all-mysb-comintegration-in-LMS-7-9=nomysb
In short, it disables the integration of mysqueezebox.com and all its
plugins. So if you rely on mysqueezebox.com and one of its plugins, the
NOMYSB version is *NOT* for you!

I'm afraid my googlefu is letting me down: What's the NOMYSB you're
writing about?

SB Duet & SB 2 using LMS $currentVersion on the DS216+
