Just want to confirm this is working. Had to repurpose an rpi as the lms
server, as the new spotty app won't run on my ds209. Now Spotify is up
again (with all artists) and still able to connect to my own library on
the synology.

Yes followed the instructions, lost a bit but then realised that it can
take time for the plugin to appear.

I noticed it, and I guess it will work? Once I have something working I
am reluctant to fiddle but I guess I will have to.

I love the way I can connect all my touch boxes, the use Squeezeplay on
computer and if we have a party use the Radio as an extra speaker in the
garden or wherever.

So spotty here we come!

If not I will have to throw away a lot of excellent gear and buy some
new stuff. My Brother in law has a Yamaha set up. It just sounds awful!
Very clunky too.
Maybe the Chromecast connect solution may be a solution? But surely,  it
can't it can't match the sound quality?

Otherwise perhaps resort to ripping from Spotify (naughty!) and adding
to my NAS, but I didn't post that.

It's both Squeezebox and UE SmartRadio. They missed that part and should

Thanks, changing account in SPH helped. It would be really nice if the
multiple account approach also worked for TIDAL. I'm considering
switching to TIDAL when libspotify stops working or preferably before
because I hate the spotify android app. But, I need to be able to have
different accounts.

The new implementation indeed allows more than one account (see
attachment). I've used it successfully with this setup for a couple of
months but yesterday all of a sudden I can't play "köket" or
"vardagsrummet" at the same time as "Jonathan" even though they are set
up with different accounts. I can play "arvids radio" and "jonathan" at
the same time.

I will check how I have set up Spotify Protocol Handler but I haven't
changed anything.

If A and B are connected to mysbc it's possible: the account Spotify
Protocol Handler on LMS used and the account that C uses must be 1) the
same and 2) different from A and B.

I don't even remember the old implementation. But the new one, which has 
been in place for 18 months or more, never supported more than a single 
account. Don't know how you did this before. Are you using the Spotify

I have three different spotify accounts registered on mysqueezebox.com

(A) is on a radio and a touch
(B) is on a different radio
(C) is on a rpi2 running squeezelite 

This have been working just fine for a while but all of a sudden I can't
play (A) at the same time as (C). I can play A/B together and B/C. If I
start the radio running A when C is playing it says that it can't play
because someone else is using that account. However, A and C are
different accounts and they are not running on any other devices.

Any suggestions? I'm considering running the thirdparty plugin for the A
instead. Can that be run at the same time as the official app?

Restart when prompted. Wait for 5 minutes, refresh screen, go to
Plugins... SPH is not installed, still in 3rd party plugins. Am I
missing something?


This is off-topic here. Please join the discussion about SPH in its own 
thread. Unless you're trying to run it on a Sparc based ReadyNAS (NV, 
Duo v1). That's not supported.

Hi,

I have a Spotify app on my phone, and it of course works fine. The
problem is accessing Spotify tracks via LMS and DSTM when using the
phone as a player. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

well I uninstalled all the plugins and only installed the official
Spotify plugin, now I can find results searching for "nerd", yeah!

I now also have the "Spotify protocol handler v1.1.1" plugin installed,
and I still can find results, yeah.

So somehow reinstalling the plugins + stopping and staring the LMS
service on my Synology solved the issue

I am a happy listener

Yep agree. I used to have Synology 212j and i had it working before.
Since I have the DS215+ I can't get it to work.
I gave up and now run LMS on the Pi - works great - I am a happy man :-)

Also using the LMS interface, I could not find an artist that I could
find using the Spotify desktop application, try nerd or n.e.r.d.

Definitely something not quite right with the way this is working. I am
still able to use Spotify (official app) from iPeng but the LMS web
interface has reverted to the odd behaviour of showing "App Gallery"

@mherger awesome work -  when Triode's plugin stopped working for me a
while back I went away from LMS but am very pleased to be back running
on picoreplayer now Spotify works again - I never found anything to
match LMS.

I'm sure it will have been mentioned before, but my request would be to
have my list of albums sort by 'recently added' as you can do in the
spotify client, that would make it perfect for the way I discover new
music in the client and then move to my hifi to listen to these new
discoveries ;)

I run into similar problems with Spotify from Mysb.com 
1st of all I do not see my player in the mysb.com account. (I removed it
but it I can't get it back into mysb.com) (already sent a PM to mherger
long time ago but not clear wether he released the player from
mysb.com)

2nd When I enable the  Spotify Protocol Handler (v1.1.1) plugin, it asks
me to reboot. After reboot it is still not enabled.

Any toughs / help is appreciated.

And now it works! I was fiddling around in iPeng (I tried selecting
mysb.com as a music source, which required me to enter my mysb.com
credentials) and hey presto, My Apps is now showing the Spotify app in
both the LMS web interface and in iPeng. Coincidence? Quite possibly. If
it was actually you who fixed it, thank you very much.

Yes, I did.

Just now I tried re-entering my mysb.com credentials in LMS. When I
restarted LMS, MyApps did show in the web interface but the only app
showing under MyApps was  "App Gallery". Clicking on App Gallery took me
to my mysb.com account (so I suppose that at least confirms that I've
entered my mysb.com credentials correctly in LMS) where I could see that
my spotify account was indeed enabled.

I then tried deleting and re-enabling my spotify account on mysb.com and
restarting LMS. Still no joy. Now, once again, MyApps is not showing in
the LMS web interface at all.

An additional curiosity is that, although Spotify does not show in
MyApps in iPeng, if I visit the Apps gallery in iPeng it tells me that
Spotify is already installed. In iPeng I tried uninstalling Spotify and
re-installing it, and iPeng is happy to do this. It even lets me launch
Spotify at the end of the install dialogue and it works! I can access my
playlists and play music. But Spotify still doesn't appear in MyApps so
this iPeng uninstall/install process is currently the only way I can use
spotify.

Any suggestions?

The interface the plugin is using has been deprecated years ago. The 
official implementation uses their latest web API.

Hi,

I noticed a post from October where playlist folders were discussed. 
Has the API changed since Triode's time?  His app handled playlist
folders, but in the last few weeks his app has started to take about 30
seconds to display my list of playlists, despite my having slimmed them
down to under 100 (which is why I have switched to using the Logitech
app).

Just thought I'd ask.

Many thanks for the official spotify app. I use it often since I'm a
Spotify Premium user.
By the way I buy a linux audio device with spotify connect available on
it. In sources I find some traces of github repo.

So now it is possible to have spotify connect on raspberry and some
Linux boards have successfully implement it with the help of code
sources below.

So I think this is possible, just missing a competant developper to do
it on Squeezebox ;)

Hi,

Firstly, many thanks for SqueezeBox - I've been using it for many years
(since the SB2) :-)

I got a Spotify account recently and set up the Spotify App with no
problems at all.  It all worked first time and I was very very pleased.
The other day my SBTouch started displaying an invalid username/password
error when trying to play songs from Spotify (but playlist browsing was
still working).

I thought re-installing it all would fix it, so I uninstalled the app
from mysqueezebox.com and removed the 'allowed access' from Spotify.
However, now, when I try to re-add the Spotify App in mysqueezebox.com,
I put in my account details and I see a tiny, spinning, wait cursor in
the top left corner of the App pane but I never see the page from
Spotify prompting me to allow squeezebox.

Is there something else I need to clear?  Does my LMS, mysb.com or my
SBTouch remember some kind of security token that I need to clear?

I was just starting to use this "official app" with my old devices (used
Triode's unofficial before).
It now turns out that some of my players are registered in other peoples
Mysqueezebox.com accounts (I  bought several second hand).

The players that are on my Mysqueezebox.com account can be controlled
using both iPeng app and web GUI, they plays well and the browsing
experience is much nicer than before!

However, the player that are not on my accounts can be controlled using
the web GUI, but not iPeng (the spotify option disappears when selecting
the player in iPeng).
-Any workaround for this?

PS. I sent an e-mail to Logitech support to release my players from
whatever account they are registered on. I'll see if there is still some
active support ...

It's something many have mentioned before. While there is some open 
source solution to mimic this "Spotify Connect" behaviour, I yet have to 
figure out how this could even technically be implemented. Logitech 
certainly cannot do this, as it's using some reverse engineered knowledge.

Spotify is funny. Installed the spotify app on my Samsung 2013 SmartTV
and what do I see: A playlist called Favorieten (which could be a dutch
translation of Starred) including a yellow star label. This playlist is
invisible from the Spotify apps on Win10, iOS and LMS.
Probably the Samsung smarttv spotify app is also legacy.

Just an idea, removing the star feature would be logical. Add to
playlist is functional and working.

After some digging in the spotify forums: it appears spotify removed
this around 2014 and with it the special playlist.
Would it be an idea to manually select a spotify playlist in settings to
act as the target for starred tracks.


No, I rather think we should remove the start feature and rely on the 
new "add to favorites" or similar feature. Spending time on something 
which has been deprecated 2+ years ago seems backwards to me...

If you use the spotify protocol handler and enable "Always Stream via
Helper" the Touch never reboots. The catch is you can only use one
spotify account on one server. It works for me and if other family
members want spotify playback on their Radio's they need to plugin a
bluetooth receiver.

I could chime in that I've started unplugging my Touch every night, and
that that (in combination with rebooting the server) seems to have
lessened the number of crashes. In fact, I don’t think I’ve had one
crash (in two weeks) since starting with it. 

I also purged hard among the plugins, and kept only those I absolutely
can't live without.

Not in my playlists.
Checked all other playlists if the last starred track pops up.
Maybe I deleted that playlist, can't remember
Tried creating a playlist "Starred Tracks" which remains empty.

Check the Playlists menu. There should be your "Starred Tracks" playlist.

No, all brand new...

I again updated LMS on Saturday when new update was notified. Same
problem again, had to run each SBT independently before syncing.

The main fun of spotify for me (at the moment) is discovering new albums
and artists. This results in a lot of skipping tracks. I tried this a
few sessions and one or two reboots each evening spoils the fun. Maybe
that was just bad luck, I'll try again without protocol handler if I
have enough discoveries.

While using the spotify app a few questions pop up:

I can "Star" a track. I'm completely lost how I can use or where I can
find the "starred list" in LMS/Jive/Spotify apps in Windows or iOS.

I can search in Albums, Artist, Tracks and Users. I would love to save
or follow users and browse users.

Will we ever get Spotify Connect for our Squeezeboxes? I have the
Squeezebox Radio and like the Spotify app but there is no way to queue
songs because SBR doesn't count as a device. So will we ever get Spotify
Connect?

Not using Spotify Protocol Handler - it is unticked in the list of
available 3rd party plugins.
Only have 1 Spotify account.
Have checked mysqueezebox.com and only one account registered.
I can not think of anything unusual about my setup.

Got a few el cheapo bluetooth receivers for the kids radio's and boom's
line-in if they want spotify playback.

update and restart LMS, then the problem happens again, and I need to

I noticed I could enable multiple accounts in mysqueezebox.com and I can
switch accounts for each squeezebox player. Once I try to play two
streams with different accounts on two players the two players stop
playback and jump to the next track

It's all working nicely. However the touch sometimes reboots if a new
track/playlist is loaded.


Unfortunately this is a too well known mis-behaviour. The (really old) 
libspotify we're using on those devices seems to have a problem if you 
skip tracks. It's easily reproducible, but we've never updated the 
firmware with a new library version :-(.

I recently subscribed to spotify premium family. Installed the official
Spotify and triodes family plugin. Currently I'm only using one account
and the logitech spotify plugin. 
It's all working nicely. However the touch sometimes reboots if a new
track/playlist is loaded.

I have the latest 7.9 LMS running and the latest firmware in the touch.
I do see an older firmware on mysb.com should I install that one?

The post by FLACforever rings a bit true for my situation as well. I am
using SBT (X2) and the new Spotify plugin. Service from Spotify is very
erratic through it. My laptop on the same network has no problems. Our
broadband is more than adequate for streaming Netflix in HD, and similar
to FLACforever's speed ours varies day to day but is usually around
3.1Mbps, over a copper phone line.

Problem 1: at times, constant rebuffering during streaming that is so
bad I give up and either use Pandora (which streams perfectly) of from
my own library. I like to use Spotify as it fits well with DSTM,

Problem 2: often when I start the system, or change to Spotify from my
own library, I can search Spotify without problem and select an album,
station, or tracks, but when trying to play it an error message "unable
to contact Spotify server" (or similar) displays. I try to persevere by
reselcting, skipping forward, backward, etc. but the message continues
to appear,

Problem 3: after i give up on Spotify and then select a playlist or
album from my own library, an error message continues to display
regarding being unable to contact the Spotify server. It eventually
stops displaying after several minutes.

Problem 4: often when Spotify is working well, a son in a Spotify
playlist or album will end and the SBT goes into pause, and I have to
select play again to continue

I am putting up with the issues as they come and go. When it is working
it is great!

Yes, I had the Spotify Protocol Handler installed.

In addition to the above - I also cannot use Squeeze Player on my
Android phone.

Our incoming internet is only 2.5Mbps over a copper phone line. But we
can stream TV on this, and I can use iPlayer although the official BBC
streams some times "stutter". So instead of using:

Ahm Classic and Receiver are not supported by this plugin at all. 
Would they even play at all? You'd need the Spotify Protocol Handler 
plugin (see appropriate threads) to make this work.

FWIW: my list of "top artists" is a joke. First is Peter Gabriel - who 
is virtually inexistent on music services (but who's certainly one of my

my wife!). And in between are two drummers: Chad Wackerman (of whom I've 
probably listened to one single album) and Marco Minnemann (ok, he's got 
more plays with his various bands: The Aristocrats, Steven Wilson, Levin 
Minnemann Rudess etc., but not as a solo act).

First of all - many thanks for all your work on the Spotify plugin. It
convince me to sign up for a trial this week. With mixed results...

It works perfectly on my PC connected direct to my router via ethernet
cable.
BUT
Classic   (connected via powerline plug and ethernet cable) rebuffers 
Radio (connected via powerline plug and router as a WAP) is fine
Receiver (using the same WAP as the Radio) rebuffers

There was a comment by bpa in another thread saying "All http/AAC stream
create AAC which need faad to play on Boom, Transport, Classic or
Receriver". Could I be having problems due to faad?
If not, do you have any other suggestions to fix? Or tests I can carry
out?

All systems play high quality FLAC without any problems.

Yes, it has been asked before, and no, it's not possible. IIRC last time 
I looked into this this possibility wasn't available through Spotify's API.

I had to recover my password just to post this :(

Thank you so much Michael for all of your great work over the years (and
thanks to the rest of the dev team over the years too, no doubt). But
this takes the cake. I gave up maintaining a server at home some time
ago, I know that's crazy talk to most of us I guess. I just don't have
time any more. So I bought a couple dongles that supported Spotify and
thought I was done with my Squeezebox Touch herd...

I can't believe at this stage of the game there is still people
dedicating their skills to updating the apps, and they they are working
great on my squeezebox.com!

Anyway thank you again Michael. It is great work and I appreciate it!

I solved this problem by readding the missing songs in each playlist in
the Spotify program, in my case in Windows. It's tedious I know, but if
someone has this problem it is being solved by readding a missing song
and then removing it (otherwise you get duplicates) from the same
playlist.

QorIQ P1022 processor. Is it even possible to use Spotify (with any
plug-in)
on my squeezebox Duet in combination with this NAS server? Or is this


Duet does not support Spotify out of the box. And the 3rd party solution 
only runs on Intel/ARM. Get a RaspberryPi to run LMS and leave the files 
on the NAS. Will cost you less than your yearly Spotify subscription ;-)

Hello,

I have a question to which I cannot find a definitive answer anywhere. I
have the official Spotify plug-in working to some extent. I can start
songs, scroll my library, etc. 
But I don't hear any sound. And also, the songs stops and sometimes
starts over again. 

I have LMS installed on a Synology NAS DS-213+, which has a FREESCALE
QorIQ P1022 processor. Is it even possible to use Spotify (with any
plug-in) 
on my squeezebox Duet in combination with this NAS server? Or is this
maybe the reason I hear no sound at all, and there is no solution (other
than buying another Synology NAS with Intel/ARM)?

Hope someone can help me with this. Thanks for the reply!

Your arrangement with Logitech is intriguingly mysterious :)

I'm curious though, if something were to happen on the Spotify side that
rendered the SB Radio's libspotify completely useless, would it be
somehow possible to for a third-party developer to create a new plugin
with no dependancies on that part of the radio's firmware? Maybe this is
exactly what Triode did, not sure. I'm guessing it would be kind of
tricky, unless Spotify starts to support streaming via their Web API.

For some reason it definitely didn't work for me, and unfortunately I
can't remember what the exact error was. I'm pretty sure it was
something other than "invalid username or password" though. I never
contacted you about that because, at the time I scanned the forum
looking for answers, it seemed like no one else was having any trouble
with it.

Amazing!... and I see that you've created a new thread
asking for testers. If you don't get enough volunteers let me

Wow, this was really, really helpful. I was able to reproduce easily, 
and identify the problem. And I was wrong: this issue wasn't there from 
the beginning, but only since we had to introduce some improved 
encryption on Spotify's request - 4.5 years ago...


I have synced Spotify streaming almost working. But only ever after a 
second try. Don't know yet how to fix this properly. But I'm close, 
thanks to your detailed report, dydx.

No, you're not the only one, I've had the same sync issue since April


IMHO Spotify syncing has "never" really worked. Ever since I've been 
using Spotify (which admittedly is not from the beginning of Spotify on 
SB) I saw the exact problems you're reporting. This actually was one of 
the reasons why I created the Spotify Protocol Handler Plugin: it allows 
me to sync players...



- Additionally, when this error appeared, one of the SBs would likely
freeze soon after, and then restart by iteself


That's an issue I've seen a lot in testing. Eg. you could try to skip 
through a playlist quickly, and the Radio would freeze.


Unfortunately this is unlikely going to ever be fixed. As I don't see 
this locking up with the UE SmartRadio, I blame it to the older version 
of the libspotify library implemented in the Squeezebox Radio. It's 
really old. And libspotify is deprecated. And firmware development is 
out of question, too.



- If you look at the last part of the video, you'll see that the only
way I could get it working was to play Spotify on each player first,
before syncing
- That trick however only lasts for a short time, if the players stop
playing for a few mins and you try to play again, you'll get the error
again


Now that's an excellent finding! I could imagine that what's happening 
here is that libspotify would need to authenticate every now and then. 
If you do play a single track, this is being done. Alas if you're 
playing in a synced situation, it's probably not done, or only on one of 
them or something like that. And thinking about this, this might 
actually be a server side problem which could be solvable. No promises - 
I don't know when I'll find time to look into this. But it's probably 
worth a good look, as it would render my using the Spotify Protocol 
Handler plugin at home obsolete :-). Oh, and it might work with mysb.com 
users, too.

but the changes are not kept. Neither the streaming setting nor the
other two options. Why is that?


Are you using the web UI? If so: do you have javascript enabled? Any 
security suite which tries to be more secure than needed? When you 
change the bitrate, would it temporarily turn green (which happens when 
the change as been set on the server)?

No, you're not the only one, I've had the same sync issue since April
(i.e. the first time I ever tried to sync two SBs together), and I've
always had somewhat hit and miss reliability with Spotify on my SB (i.e.
what you describe as mid-song buffering).

I'm going to quickly describe my experience in the hope of saving you
and others some time...

In short: I've had a back and forth communication thread with Logitech
Support about my sync issue since April, the case is still open and
nothing has been resolved yet. During this time I've been asked to test
many things, and I've provided plenty of details to their team about the
problem. My hunch is that it's probably a relatively minor software
issue with the official app, but that they don't have any appetite to
actually dedicate resources to fixing it. I knew asking Logitech support
would be a long shot, and I had been planning to raise this here before
now in the hope the fantastic mherger would pick it up, but based on the
almost daily LMS updates he pushes (Michael, your continued dedication
to LMS is outstanding and very much appreciated), I really didn't want
to generate work for him just to solve my problem. Recently my mobile
operator offered me a 6 month Deezer Premium+ subscription, so I
switched from Spotify a few weeks ago and have had no issues at all with
Deezer.

Well that was the summary, here's the nitty gritty for anyone who's
interested. It's a long story, I've bulleted for brevity:

- I've been a loving owner of a SB Radio since Christmas 2009, it
really is a beauty!
- I've been a Spotify Premium user since it became available in Ireland
back in 2012
- Spotify generally worked well enough with my SB Radio, just the
occasional unexpected buffering/error message, but it worked most of the
time
- Picked up a secondhand SB Radio in April 2016, intended to be used as
a lullaby music player for a new arrival in the family
- Factory reset the new SB Radio as soon as I got it, and set it up
under my own account
- Attempted to play Spotify tracks after syncing the players (had
always been curious about using two SB Radios as a stereo pair), but
more often than not received an "Invalid username or password" error
- Additionally, when this error appeared, one of the SBs would likely
freeze soon after, and then restart by iteself
- I noticed on mysb.com the Spotify account name of the previous owner
was showing up next to the new player's name on the "Player Settings"
tab of the Spotify app, weird!
- I completely uninstalled Spotify app from all my players (using
mysb.com), and factory reset both of them (using the on-device menus on
the two SB Radios)
- Still, the previous owner's account showed up again after I'd set
everything up. Note: only ever one account (mine) was listed on the on
the "Account Settings" tab
- I contacted the previous owner, who kindly gave me their mysb.com
account details so I could go an and ensure Spotify was completely
uninstalled from their side
- I went into their mysb.com account, completely removed Spotify, and
then set everything up again in mysb.com
- The previous owner also told me they performed a "sign out of all
devices" in their own Spotify account settings 
- Finally, my own Spotify account showed beside both of my players on
the "Player Settings" tab, problem solved... or so I thought!
- Everything now looked good, but the same "Invalid username or
password" problem persisted. 
- Having read a few forum posts I thought maybe the new player was
somehow still associated with the previous owner's mysb.com account, and
that only Logitech Support could help
- Contacted Logitech Support, explaining the issue to them. In
response, I got the typical initial troubleshooting questions... but I
did everything asked of me despite my skepticism
- After one month and several emails, I felt it was going nowhere, so I
made this video that clearly demonstrated the issue:

- Despite all the changes and attempts to troubleshoot, nothing has
changed since I first experienced the problem in April. Last time I
tried to sync with Spotify was in early August
