PGA Tour on Facebook with SM2.1

2011-06-11 Thread William Morrison
Ok folks I just upgraded to SM 2.1 and all of a sudden I can't play Golf
on Facebook on EA Sports PGA Tour Golf which uses Unity Web Player to
play. What I get is the the screen that would normally be where the game
would start but it says Something Went Wrong and to refresh my browser
which just brings me back to the same screen. This all worked just fine
with SM 2.0.14. Plugin page on 2.1 shows the Unity Web Player as being
installed Unity Player File: npUnity3D32.dll Version: 3.3.0.63135

I've used Netscape/Sea Monkey for browsing and email for about a

instructions for Sea Monkey. When I check for updates from the Help

It works great for me. No messages from PP.
SeaMonkey 1.1.19
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.24)
Gecko/20100228 NOT Firefox/3.5 SeaMonkey/1.1.19 Firefox/2.0.0.24

So should I revert to Version 1.1.19? Or are there security updates I
can apply to what I have? I just got the message from PayPal today. I
just used it last week to pay for a couple of eBay items.

Tony, if you check Paul's Build Identifier you will notice that his SM
identifies as both SeaMonkey *AND* Firefox.

More and more sites are browser sniffing and displaying their data to
suit the browser, but only a few browsers are accepted, MSIE and Firefox
being two. This problem is so widespread that when SM 2.1 is released,
it will identify itself as both SeaMonkey AND Firefox, just like Paul's
2.0 does now.

Tony, if you want to fix this situation in SM 2.0.14, enter about:config
in a browser address line. You will get a warning screen, if you're
comfortable accept it, then in the Filter line of that screen type
useragent (without the quotes).

Then either alter general.useragent.extra.seamonkey to include the word
Firefox (and a version number if you like), or right click on any pref
and give yourself a NEW string pref,
general.useragent.extra.seamonkey.firefox, set it as a string and give
it a value that includes the word Firefox (without the quotes). Close
the prefs page, restart SeaMonkey, go to the pages that were giving you
troubles and see how you go.

Report back here if necessary.

I don't use PayPal but I'm always interested in problems with the
UserAget. I use PrefBar which allows me to change the UA on the fly but
none of mine defeat the PayPal BS:

https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-contentcontent_ID=security/hardware_software_protection

I've got a variety of UA variations:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.19)
Gecko/20110420 Lightning/1.0b2 NOT Firefox 4.0b8pre SeaMonkey/2.0.14

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.17)
Gecko/20080829 NOT Firefox/2.0.0.12 SeaMonkey/2

Cool. The biggest crasher is dang Adobe Flash. OK, so what happens if
Flash crashes, does SM2.1 restart that plugin automatically?

No, that might just retrigger the crash. Instead it will show a

So, do you see any problems with my extensions/addons?

seamonkey 2.1 - menu change - minor annoyance

2011-06-11 Thread Miles Fidelman

Re. Seamonkey 2.1, at least on the Mac:

It looks like the right-click pop-up menu over links has changed from:

to:

what with muscle memory, and other browsers (Firefox, Safari) using the
original order, I find myself opening lots of windows when I mean to
open a new tab

does this annoy anyone else?

is there a way to configure the menu order to go back to the original?

Thanks,

Seamonkey upgrade from 2.1RC2 to 2.1 final failed

2011-06-11 Thread Juha
Upgraded to 2.1RC2 a few days ago and everything worked just fine
(working with Win7). Today tried to upgrade from RC2 to 2.1 final via
Check for Updates. Update to 2.1 final was found and it started
normally but then did not finish normally, all dialogs just got closed
and there was no Mozilla processes in process list. I then started
SeaMonkey again from the desktop shortcut and then the upgrade seemed
to continue, UAC prompt and so on. Then when it was checking for
compatibility with addons the upgrade process hangend, windows
reported that the process is not responding. Had to kill the process
manually at this point.

After this I downloaded full installation and tried install again.
This time install went through normally but now SeaMonky does not
start with my profile. Seamonkey window does not open, process is
running but it does nothing. Same thing even in Safe Mode. With new
profile it works fine.

Obviously something in my profile got corrupted. How to troubleshoot
and solve this? I do not have a recent backup of my profile so it
would be nice to be able to solve this somehow.

Thanks,

Outbox is used to store drafts of e-mails that won't/don't send for
any particular reason. You should have an option to store such delayed
messages in the Local or Account Outbox when/if they occur - the
Outbox won't actually be created in your Account Folder list until
such actually occurs, but all of the Local Folders listed are default.

I think the use of drafts is confusing here, Outbox holds undelivered
messages, Drafts holds messages subject to further editing, Templates holds
starting points for future mails.

While you could go to Outbox, open a message, edit as new and send, that's
not the normal use. What's in Outbox should be final form messages ready for
delivery, rather than a draft, which is a work in progress.

BTW - once you get things sorted, you may as well upgrade to SM 2.0.14.
That's what I'm running on all my Macs except my Sawtooth, which is
still running 10.4.11.

Can I install it over my current version, 2.0.14?

Yes. (Just note the mention in Release Notes about downgrading BACK to
2.0.14 if that is ever desired)

I can agree to that, while it is possible to go back, it's a process (at least
on Linux) .

A few related questions:
- is the upgrade from 1.x gone? It was noted as being a conversion feature to be
removed from 2.1 and later. I ask only because I didn't see a hint to upgrade
to 2.0.14 then 2.1 if the direct path isn't supported.
- Having SM call itself Firefox solves problems with broken sites, but it will
result in SM vanishing from browser stats, won't it? Meaning sites are less
likely to make any effort to support it.
- is 2.1.1pre daily newer or a fork?

Overall a good job, although there is a serious lack of themes. Also a lack of
documentation of correct generation of themes.

Companies are starting to support Do Not Track, but you may not notice
any changes initially. We are actively working with companies that have
started to implement Do Not Track, with others who have committed to
doing so soon.

So it doesn't 'block' tracking, it merely posts a flag that says you
would not prefer to be tracked - and relies upon the cooperativeness

This is one of the reasons that I never use google but do my searches
with startpage.com - they don't give the trackers access to search

Of course once one is on a site startpage cannot control what happens,
which is where I was hoping this app might have found a way to block -
rather than merely request blocking - of privacy-invasive tracking.

SM 1.x used a different update system (you were only notified of updates

Preferences):

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/add-a-device-to-firefox-sync

For instance, in the setup can I use the same email
address on both, or should one have a different email address?

The email address is used as your Sync account name. So if you want to
use the same sync data on multiple computers, you need to enter the same
email address on each device (computer). You can use different email
addresses for different accounts, in case you ever need more than one.

Is it a one shot sync, or a continuous thing.?

Heh, it would be pretty useless if it only worked once. ;-) No, it's
continually (periodically) syncing in the background, or when you
explicitly tell it (using either the menu item or the customizable
toolbar button).

Only the order of the menu items was changed. Personally, I've been

Hi,

Once more I want to ask you about a problem with 2.1. In the older
editions, clicking on cookies displayed all of them, and deleting them
could be done with one further click. Now, in the new 2.1, cookies are
only displayed by domains, and deletion involves many steps of clicking
on a domain, and deleting each domain's cookies one at a time. So, I
sometimes wind up clicking on a hundred times or more to delete cookies,
whereas with the older system, two clicks sufficed.

Is there any way to get 2.1 to revert to the former and better cookies

No. It's the new rapid-release cycle, in parallel to the Firefox cycle

Firefox is using major version numbers, like Google Chrome has been

Unfortunately, no. That would require a fundamental redesign of Gecko's

There were a number of bugs associated with the old design of the
Bookmarks Manager. The developers chose to resolve those problems by
putting bookmarks into places.sqlite, a database instead of an HTML file.

If you merely want to see your bookmarks (not actually edit them), you
can still create an HTML file. With Bookmarks Manager open, go to the
menu bar and select [Tools Export HTML]. Navigate to where you want
to save them. With multiple profiles, I save them each in its profile
directory.

You can also automate the exporting by setting the preference variable
browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML to true. This exports every time you
terminate SeaMonkey. You can do this with about:config, but I prefer
putting
user_pref(browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML, true);
into user.js because I can then add a comment as to what that means and
why I'm doing it.

I've only just become aware of that Password Manager is now a bit more
of a pain than it used to be. I must admit that I'm not sure when the
changes occurred though.

It used to be possible to display all stored passwords by clicking the
Show Passwords button. Now that only works for the currently
highlighted website.

Is there any way of reverting to the previous behaviour? - or adding a
Show ALL Passwords button?

I ask because I just needed to check several passwords and had to do the
Show Passwords and then click Yes in the Confirm dialog for each
entry I wanted to check.

I'm having a weirder problem -- I can't see *any* passwords in Data
Manager/Password Manager. The passwords tab is greyed out, even for
the domains I *know* have saved passwords (such as my mail hosts). If I
select Passwords only in the domain filter box, it shows *no* domains
at all. If there's a show passwords button I should click, I have been
unable to find it.

I don't know if the places.sqlite file is portable.

My recommendation would be to export it to an HTML file, which is ASCII
and should be portable. You then import it back into places.sqlite on
the other platforms.

2.1: Bookmarks Add-on Manager

2011-06-11 Thread nr
Is there any way to remove the lines for 'Subscribe to This Page' and
'Personal Toolbar' in my bookmarks drop down (SM 2.1)?

Whenever I select 'Tools / Add-on Manager' it opens a second tab
(current page to first tab - I do not use tabs). I have my
'Preferences' set to not open tabs, but this still happens. Is there
any way to get the 'Add-on Manager' to either open in the current
window or in a new window?

Thanks for any assistance.

Change your master password to a blank string.

Thanks, I agree, however I needed the option. SeaMonkey security does not retain any 'important

[Linux Mint 11 / Ubuntu 11.04 / SM 2.1] Frequent Black Screens

2011-06-11 Thread Rob Lindauer
Has anyone else seen the following? I've had this problem from the
moment I installed SM2.1...

I am getting frequent back screens in SM 2.1. When I'm doing
something (e.g., attempting to drag a map in Google Maps, opening a new
webpage), my screen will go black briefly (perhaps a half second or a
second).

I did not have this behavior on SM 2.0.14.

I created entirely new user profiles for SM 2.1 - am not reusing the
profiles I had use under 2.0.14.

I've checked my dpkg.og to see if there might have been Linux
maintenance installed in the same timeframe as my SM 2.1 install, but
there was no Linux installation within 24 hrs of the SM 2.1 installation.

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, no. That would require a fundamental redesign of Gecko's
password manager, which is certainly outside the scope of Saved Password
Editor. How common is this, anyway? Probably not enough for Mozilla to
bother with. Other workarounds may be possible, though, through
Greasemonkey or something similar, i.e. modify the page so it has a
regular login form; I think that should work so long as the server will
accept a single request containing both credentials.

Among financial institutions, split passwords are becoming more and more
common. I now find split passwords at a small community bank's Web site
and at Vanguard Group's site. They might be authenticating my user ID
before asking for my password, although I have not tested to see if this
is true.

When the update prompts the user, any installed extension will get

Yes! I noticed this on Friday w/google maps thought perhaps it was
lack of graphics card memory. So I increased the memory while it seems
a little better, it still occurs. However in my case it was any x
window, but most repeatable w/google maps.

Here is what I was doing:
1. Open google maps select the 'Print' option. That print window
seemed to work OK.
2. Open another google map select the 'Print' option. That print
window was all black.
3. Open another x window in another application (LibreOffice/OpenOffice)
and that window was black.

You can change the subject to
[Linux SM 2.1] if you'd like as I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 w/SM 2.1 from

Facebook is a nightmare in many ways.

If you try to unsubscribe you have to notify them and then
be certain that you do not use your account for *at least*
4 months - only then will they delete your account.

They want to keep their numbers up and don't care about
users.

This should be illegal - I should be able to remove myself,
and have my account 100% purged, within 24 business hours
at most.

I know why people waste so much time on Facebook, and it is
sad.

Sorry to be a bother. It's more common than you think. Financial

At two of my banks, I Sign In on one page, then I confirm a SiteKey that
I have chosen earlier to insure I'm on a real bank web page, and that's
where I enter my Password. After I edited the nsLoginManager.js, SM
2.0.14 saved both, 2.1 doesn't.

I'm sure I'll figure out a work around but it worked in an earlier
version so perhaps a fundamental redesign is not necessary, just a
little tweak? 8-)

If you close all mail windows then the mail part of SeaMonkey does not
do anything? I would think so, but I tried this one time and it did not
seem to help.

I do have a lot of mail accounts and (especially) newsgroup accounts.

In my experience, if I close the mail window but leave the browser open,
the mail app continues to poll for messages and download them on
schedule (unless I change the settings). I still get the little envelope
in the tray when incoming messages arrive, and if I then open the mail
app, they've already been downloaded and are ready to read.

That echoes my experience too.

And, while I cannot define a version when this started my sense is
that it began with my using 2.1 pre releases. Could be wrong but that's
my best guess.

The symptom is that SeaMonkey freezes for a few seconds, most noticeably
when scrolling a document or clicking a menu (when I expect instant
response). The problem is less severe on my new quad core machine
(Windows 7 x64) and worse on an XP virtual machine.

When this happens on my quad-core machine, Task Manager typically shows
high CPU on several cores (usually three), not just one one core as
happens when I load a new page.

How can I find out what SeaMonkey is doing when this happens?

David, to eliminate the possibility that it is the mail that is causing
this problem, could you go to Edit-Preferences-Mail Newsgroups and
under General Settings , untick Only check for mail, Close the
Preferences window, then go Edit-Mail Newsgroup Account Settings and
select Server Settings on your email account and in the Server Settings

That has always been my normal setting. Doesn't help.
