 You may test by yourself:
Enter a town in zone "A" and another town in zone "B" then click on the
 "RECHERCHER" button.
Nothing happens except the map is greyed and if the mouse is not over
the "RECHERCHER" button the mouse pointer is not an arrow but is an
animated circle (saying "wait, until i finish") I am under Windows10.

It looks like SM is in a loop, but no extra cpu involved.

 Last step: (normally not needed)

To be able to break the loop and to get the itinerary displayed on the
map (with distance and time) I must click on the SM "Reload" button.

It works correctly without a loop and therefore no need of the last step
 when I use: FireFox [57.0 (64-bit)]

I still have the problem after a reboot and disabling Adblock+, Firebug
 and true-full-screen-in-semonkey.

What can I do to pinpoint and solve the problem ?

Here is what i see and deduce.
After I click on the "RECHERCHER" button, the loop begin, but the url is
changed and the status bar show "Done" and the Seamonkey tumbnail à
upper-right side is not animated.
It looks like that SM forgot to send the modifier url ... looks like and
automatic reload of the modified url is not performed.
A manual reload must be used. What is the reason why the "auto-reload" is not
done ?

I reproduce your problem (on www.viamichelin.fr also, which is not very
surprising :-)).

User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1

However it works OK with a fresh profile. So there is some setting
interfering, but which one? My prefs.js has over 2500 lines...

If you have time, you can try to find the culprit by dichotomy (I can
explain if you don't know how to do this).

You could access your email through IMAP (which has been supported by

Previously typed addresses only doesn't work

Hi,

I've just installed 2.33 on a new PC. I want the Location bar to behave
this way:

- propose a list of completion in a drop-down as I type;
- offered completions should be from previously typed addresses only, not
from all history, and not from titles.

So in Prefs Browser Location bar I checked boxes 1, 2, 3, 5 and
unchecked the fourth.

This doesn't work: offered completions are from all history. Is this a
known new bug? It worked under 2.12.1 at least. (Note: I seldom update

because I've put it where it does find it (somewhere under /usr, if I recall

Where may I put libflashplayer.so so that seamonkey will find it? I've tried
putting it in .../seamonkey/ where a number of other *.so files it provides

Add this to ~/.profile (assuming your shell is bash or similar):
 export MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH=/usr/lib64/browser-plugins
where you'll put the correct path, of course.

If flash is installed and up-to-date on the system, you may point to the
system dir. Or you point to your own dir and, if this prevents SM from
seeing plugins installed system-wide, in your own dir you add symbolic
links to other system plugins you use and don't want to install on your

to, there is a dropdown list of all the recent URLs that I have visited.

How can I delete individual URLs from that list?

 Thank you.

 Mort Linder

you can't. This is a known issue for 12 years:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=87098

You can't delete them from within the list, but they will disappear
if you remove them from history (IIRC, I did this a few times).

Solved once for all? [Linux] Browser refuses to use my script as helper app

2012-09-19 Thread Lucas Levrel
Finally, I dived into mimeTypes.rdf: it's hard to understand how it works
precisely, but I saw possibleApplication lines so I added one for my
script. Now the drop-down for application/pdf shows my script twice,
with different icons, and the freshly added one works as expected.

- the drop-down for application/pdf lists: Always ask, Save file; Use
evince-patched (default) [with a tiny window icon], use evince [paper sheet
icon], use Adobe Reader 9.5 (in SeaMonkey) [Lego brick icon]. Application
details shows one entry: evince.

- the drop-down for application/save lists: Always ask, Save file; Use
(default) [a mere space after Use; a tiny window icon], use evince-patched
[paper sheet icon], use evince [same icon], use acroread [same icon].
Application details shows one entry: evince-patched.

It looks like the entry with the tiny window icon is supposed to be a
system default, but I wonder how SM determines it.

Reopened: [Linux] Browser refuses to use my script as helper app

2012-09-17 Thread Lucas Levrel
Well, I spoke too fast. The problem (recalled below) still shows up, but
here's the detailed circumstances:
- When I click a link to a PDF file in a webpage, that triggers the Helper
Apps Action chosen for content-type application/pdf: if there I select
my script, SM opens Acrobat instead.
- When I click the entry of a PDF file in a (local) directory index, that
triggers the application/save Action: if there I select my script, it
works.

Some more info about the Helper Apps list:

- the drop-down for application/pdf lists: Always ask, Save file; Use
evince-patched (default) [with a tiny window icon], use evince [paper
sheet icon], use Adobe Reader 9.5 (in SeaMonkey) [Lego brick icon].
Application details shows one entry: evince.

- the drop-down for application/save lists: Always ask, Save file; Use
(default) [a mere space after Use; a tiny window icon], use
evince-patched [paper sheet icon], use evince [same icon], use acroread
[same icon]. Application details shows one entry: evince-patched.

Thanks.

I like to use Evince to read PDF files. If I select it (/usr/bin/evince) as
helper app, it works.

Now, the Evince window doesn't always open at an optimal size (*). So I wrote
a script (/home/lucas/bin/evince-patched) to automatically launch then resize
it. The script works like a charm when called from a terminal. But SM refuses
to use it: if I set it as helper app, SM launches Acrobat !

Here's the script:
---
#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/evince $@
pid=$!
until wmctrl -lp |grep -q $pid
do sleep 1s
done
winid=$(wmctrl -lp | grep $pid | cut -d' ' -f1)
wmctrl -ir $winid -b add,maximized_vert
wmctrl -ir $winid -e 0,-1,-1,981,-1
---

The permissions look right:

ls -ld /home

drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 août 14 2011 /home

ls -ld /home/lucas

drwxr-xr-x 93 lucas users 12288 sept. 7 10:54 /home/lucas

It's really frustrating and confusing that the user cannot change the pref

I agree that Use default prefs on a subdomain doesn't do what is
expected if you have an explicit topdomain setting. But if I understood
you correctly, you didn't try to explicitly set allow (session) cookies
on the subdomain, did you?

About going through all this, I wonder whether you did so to set the
topdomain pref. I think one cannot set a topdomain pref through the

No criticism intended above!

Maybe submit a bug to at least change Use default prefs into Use

The reason the bookmark window was way over at the right edge of the screen

very long and that thin bookmark icon is at the end of the address bar.

On my SM 2.6.1 under Win XP, the cramped window is *right* aligned to

I really don't understand what you're talking about.

At least before Fx4 (don't recall what version of SM),
Bookmarks drop down was from Bookmarks on the Menu bar so in a much better
place on the screen and was LARGE to work in.

I still have it (SM 2.6.1).

Now you get on both browsers a stingy, tiny window that is hard to work
in and displays half off screen if you get rid of the search bar.

Are you talking about the New Bookmark window? I can't find anything
like a bookmarks window.

I can bookmark all tabs at once in Fx but that is through an extension
always available on Mozilla browser (first extension ever on Mozilla or

Right click on a tab Bookmark this group of tabs. This will create a

Agreed. But you get the tree by clicking the rightmost arrow of the

puzzling).

Another SQL file?
Is importing a text file hard?

I think using an SQL database editor would fit your need. But the learning
curve might be rather steep...

Simple text and html files work just fine, why push all this fancy stuff
that takes more CPU time to run?

Not so sure.

Once it is memory, it is all just a table anyway, what difference does
it make how they are stored on the disc?

With data nicely structured on disk, you need not load it entirely in
memory. Also, a plain array of data is certainly not the best way to
manage structured data (like sorted data, or trees).

As I understood it, going from SM 1 to SM 2 changed the coding framework,
and nobody could rewrite the form manager in the new one.

And how to get forms manager functionality back?

Use Autofill Forms. Take the SM'ed version by Phil Chee here:
http://xsidebar.mozdev.org/modifiedmisc.html#autofillforms .

Manual here: http://autofillforms.mozdev.org/drupal/content/main-page

To emulate the old save form info, you'll want to use this:

, and you can define keyboard or mouse shortcuts to fill out forms.

Re: 2.4.1 problems, part I: Mail crashes it all!

2011-10-07 Thread Lucas Levrel

Some more tests.

I tried and upgraded from 2.0.14 64-bit to 2.4 32-bit.

First I launched the browser, installed and removed some addons... Then I
launched Mail: it took much time before prompting me for my passwords, and
memory usage reached 2 GB!

After that first run, I've closed and reopened it. Browser uses around 235
MB, and when I open Mail, it takes an additional 830 MB (merely to start;
no open mailboxes). That looks very much! Also, Mail is very long to start
(around 40 sec), and once started, CPU usage remains around 25% as long as
the box prompting me for my password is open.

Then, I close Mail, not the browser: the memory usage stays the same. I
think OK, it's just in some kind of background. I open it back: tada!
again 40 seconds of waiting, and an *additional* 800 MB of mem used (it's
near 1.9 GB now)! So now, guess what happened when I did another round of
this (close Mail, open Mail)? Crash! I have only 1 GB of RAM and 2 GB of
swap...

Taken from http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.4/:

Hi,

I just upgraded from SM 2.0.14 to 2.4.1 through my package manager

I can't start Mail anymore.

- Clicking on the bottom-left icon or on the relevant item in SM's Window
menu kills the whole app (browser, history...).

- Starting from command-line (seamonkey -safe-mode -mail, or seamonkey
-safe-mode then trying to open Mail) gives the following error message:

seamonkey-bin: misc.c:39: px_malloc0: Assertion `mem != ((void *)0)' failed.
/usr/bin/seamonkey: line 127: 5686 Aborted $MOZ_PROGRAM $@

In either case the Mail window shows up very briefly.

Any idea?

2.4.1 problems, part II: History renders sooo slowly

2011-10-06 Thread Lucas Levrel

Hi again,

I just upgraded from SM 2.0.14 to 2.4.1 through my package manager (OpenSUSE
64-bit).

I open History fullscreen, with no grouping and no sorting. I have around
5000 entries there. Then, any action quickly rises CPU activity close to
max, *even moving the mouse pointer at medium pace in small circles*!
Raising the window, scrolling, selecting several items by shift-clicking,
etc. all take a few seconds (in addition to rising CPU load of course).

When grouping by website, the list is shorter and renders more quickly.

Also, I noticed the places.sqlite is far bigger now.
Before migration: bookmarks.html 139700 bytes, places.sqlite 5275648.
Just after migration: places.sqlite 10485760, twice as big!

(Same and stronger disease for cookies.sqlite: 14336 - 524288 !)

Is there an open bug for this? (Couldn't take the time now to check by
myself, sorry.)

No idea, but you could find it by dichotomy:
1) close SM
2) backup prefs.js as original_prefs.js
3) create prefs_2.js containing second half of prefs.js
4) erase second half from prefs.js
5) start SM
6) if the problem shows up, close SM, delete prefs_2.js, goto 3
7) the problem doesn't show up. Close SM, delete prefs.js, rename
prefs_2.js as prefs.js. Restart SM:

 - if the problem shows up, goto 3
 - if the problem doesn't show up, bad luck! the problem is caused by
interaction of multiple settings.

Repeat until there's only one line left in prefs.js: the culprit. If you
don't find one, check user.js (if any) and extensions as well.

Note: dichotomy is very efficient. With my 2700-line-long prefs.js, 11 or

new tabs. So a groupmark with five links yields six tabs, one of them blank.

Except if you set groupmarks to replace existing tabs in Prefs.

I'm using Autofill Forms, and would like to add some stored fields for things
that are missing, such as payment info, etc. Can someone tell me if it's
possible to add more fields, and if so, how to do it?

Go to Preferences - Main, choose a profile, fill in the empty textboxes
at bottom, click Add.

Or you can browse to the form, right-click the field Add a rule for this
field. See

Autofill Forms is still in beta, isn't it? Does it remember passwords or
just only fill in forms?

Well, it may have some bugs, but I don't think its maintainer considers it
beta. In fact the author handed it to someone else rather recently.

I take it you prefer Autofill Forms to SM's own Form Manager (which I have
never used)?

Right, because it lets you fill a whole form with a single keypress. Or
fill submit with another keypress (all customizable).

RoboForm remembers the PW required by my ISP (or is by SM itself?)

By your ISP. SM can remember these and fill them automatically.

If the getting it out of the box was to be so that people could easily get

It is. You just dislike to use some Debian repo.

I asked for the software to be provided as a packge, that could be installed
and upgraded using system package management, for ease of installation and
upgrading, and I have been told to get stuffed .

No, you've been told it's possible. You just dislike the answer.

There is no point in this thread continuing in the to-ing and fro-ing.

You knew from the start that Mozilla doesn't provide SM in .deb. So why
ask for help if that's the only thing able to satisfy you? (Santa Claus
doesn't exist, don't you know?) Indeed, there's no point in helping
someone who won't be helped.

Still, I wish you a merry christmas.

I do and never had problems. 6591 blocks and counting...

Not exactly a pile of answers, gentlemen.

It's been only 30 h...

As I see it, I can either revert to my earlier SM 1.1.16 (I still have it,
uninstalled, on my computer) or I can switch to another password-remember
software that works with SM 2, both its browser and email components. Is
there such an entity?

I use Autofill Forms and am happy with it.

BTW, I'd never have entrusted my PW to a closed-source, paying,
remotely-operating software!

BTW again: PW in emails?

And again:

Debian stability is at the cost of old software versions.
Love it or leave it.
