Hi: You can make the power button do that in Windows 7 as well. Just got the control panel, go into power options and, in that dialog, tab to "choose what the power buttons do" and press the enter key. RE: WE 9.2 and IE 11
Hi: Yes. Often I can exit using narrator and then ReBoot the computer. I have tested JAWS on the same browser page while WE was totally locked up, well it would allow me to use the keyboard after firing up narrator, and JAWS seemed to read the page fine while WE was still dead. Sometimes, perhaps 1 out of 4 or 5 times firing up narrator or jaws will bring WindowEyes back to life but usually with some of the WindowEyes hot keys like read to end and others not working. ReStarting WindowEyes will not bring these features back but a complete ReBoot of the computer via the soft ReStart or actually pushing the computers power button will bring WindowEyes back to its normal operational state. RE: WE 9.2 and IE 11
Hey, folks. You know how when you use the run dialog, Windows remembers the name of the last program you entered? Chris Grabowsky had told the list that WE can be started by pressing Windows-R then typing wineyes and hitting enter. My crashes tend to occur in IE eleven and practically always stuns Window-Eyes to silence and the WE hot key to restart is also disabled or locked up in the tangle. I tried the WE startup using the run dialog one time and it worked. It forced IE to close down as well, which is kind of wierd, but I got speech back without going through too many conrortions. I'd say the alternate method of using the run dialog is about 60 to 70% effective. Enough to keep in mind for sure. --Lou N. -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+fenderwal=sbcglobal@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of via Talk Sent: Tuesday, September 08, 2015 8:41 AM To: Elizabeth; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11 yes, sometimes I can use NVDA. There have been numerous issues with WE 9.2 and IE 11 in all Windows versions from 7 to 10. A lister suggested having WE read nothing after starting a web page rather than 24 lines or the entire page. I tried this, and it has helped some but I think not enough. I did notice that one page I accessed was trying to play a video, but coudn't. Sorry I can't be of more help. -Original Message- From: Don H via Talk Sent: Monday, September 07, 2015 8:22 AM To: Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: WE 9.2 and IE 11 Running WE 9.2 on a Windows 10 64 bit machine and IE 11. Hi Joseph, I did not have the opportunity to use window-eyes 9.2 with windows 7 64bit pro so can't comment whether or not circumstances would have been similar. My issues started after the update to windows 10, but still really love windows 10 in spite of window-eyes idiosyncrasies. -- Curtis Delzer On Wed, 26 Aug 2015 08:42:18 -0500 Jo Taliaferro via Talk wrote: > Well, I'm not having problems with WE 9.2 and IE 11 latest updates so I find > myself wondering what I'm doing right! Well, I'm not having problems with WE 9.2 and IE 11 latest updates so I find myself wondering what I'm doing right! I have everything set to the defaults in IE 11 and use Windows 7 64-bit machine. when it crashes end task on the plug in container. not firefox. this is the flash player program. after you close the task manager press f5 to reload the page, which will also start the flash player too. *** if you use the html5 player on the youtube page instead of the adobe flash player it won't crash. i installed this from the youtube web page when it told me it was availible. -Original Message- From: Bryan Peterson via Talk Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2015 3:08 PM To: Tom Fairhurst ; Curtis Delzer ; Window-Eyes Discussion List Subject: Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11 I've found that in most cases I'm able to start NVDA which at least enables me to start Task Manager and close the nonresponsive program. I might add to this that for me, I am not able to start narrator or any other program to help. Even if I am successful in getting Window-Eyes back, the other offending program may remain stuck or otherwise not work properly. Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11
My issues are not with my Becky! mail email program at all, not a single lockup or issue. IE11 with Window-eyes 9.2 and my windows 10 professional 64 bit, 8 gigs ram, (Intel processor) built-in sound with Motherboard system, that's another issue. I described all of my symptoms a couple days ago. -- Curtis Delzer On Mon, 24 Aug 2015 17:47:47 -0700 via Talk wrote: > If you call their Tech Support, they won't say that 9.1 or 9.2 has been > a Step backwards, but what they do not say, often tells the story they > can not say over the phone. RE: [EXTERNAL] Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11
I have experienced the same issues using both JAWS and WE so at least in some instances, it does not appear to be a screen reader issue. Perhaps it could be settings in IE that need to be changed, or just the way that the page is coded. I do know that sometimes changing from IE to Firefox seems to fix some of these issues, i. e. making links work, and opening edit boxes and combo boxes. RE: WE 9.2 and IE 11
Hi Dave: I am in between. I get allot of freeze ups especially in IE 11 using WindowEyes 9.1 and 9.2 but not all the time. Allot depends on which Websites I am visiting and how cranky WindowEyes is behaving when I go to them. There have been several good ideas about this ranging from automatic mouse stuff causing problems as WindowEyes moves it around behind the scenes to flash, one I am sure WindowEyes has problems with, to the fact that WindowEyes might be having problems trying to get the use of computer processors if it is running on a thread that gets locked up. And then there are the various scripts that run slowly compared to compiled code, use various timing tricks and have their own threading and message processing situations. Most of these can not really be analyzed by us since we don't have access to necessary code nor would we want to most likely. But when you are on a Website and you get an error that IE Explorer or other application has locked up it should never lock up the Screen Reader. Also, anything that is used to monitor dynamic and page changes events should never be able to automatically trigger any action without some specific interface, notification perhaps but no automagic actions without notification. We don't want a MenuBar ppopping up because of WE tracking some screen changes behind the scene and moving the mouse, by itself for tracking purposes, over some active control, ditto dynamic advertising and flash or flash advertising. Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11
Windows 7 64-bit running on Toshiba 5-year-old laptop, Core I3-350M processor, 4 GB of RAM, RealTech built-in sound card. Window-Eyes 9.2, Eloquence TTS for Window-Eyes, Windows Live Mail 2012, IE 11, Firefox 40.02, Office 2010, Windows Security Essentials. Typically 1.5 to 2 GB of RAM is in use. Sometimes WLM or IE 11 will become busy and I use ctrl-Alt-W to reboot Window-Eyes. If you can't get ctrl-Alt-W to work from inside a program, try doing it from the desktop. If that doesn't work, avoid clobbering your system by doing a no-feedback shutdown: Windows key, Tab twice, right arrow once, R for Restart. Try the same websites with NVDA. I get plenty of use out of my Window-Eyes investment, and these crashes are not very frequent. I think that for both IE 11 and Firefox, Flash is becoming a big problem for stability. And web sites are far more complicated than they were 10 or 15 years ago, with lots of things ggoing on behind your back. But you have a fighting chance if you keep your screen reader up to date and don't run an antivirus program that hobbles your system. Keep those toolbars at bay, too. Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11
Hello Chris, OK, I did what you asked, and then went to Youtube to check on Subscriptions. I was moving slowly, as I could tell, WE was not Snappy Responsive, which usually means I can loose speech at any time. I was able to view several videos, and then the Speech dropped out. I waited for about one minute, and it came back. However, once the Speech has gone away, it doesn't seem to take much to make it disappear again, usually for good. And sure enough, was watching another Video, and about two thirds of the way through a 4 minute video, the speech just disappeared. I could not tell if it was I.E. 11 that locked up, or if it was just WE. But, nothing I did brought Speech back. I ended up needing to do a Hard Re boot. Once the system had re started, the speech was back, and I am writing this email. When I have a list of Links on a web page, I will Press the Insert Tab key combination, which gives me a list of those Links on the page. I never have any problems reading this list. In fact, the reading is Snappy and I can use the Arrow keys quickly without having any freezing, or locking up of WE, or I.E. or the System. After viewing a video, and am back into Browse mode, WE is again slightly sluggish, and if I attempt to move quickly through the lines of text on the web page, it is very easy to cause WE to fall behind, and go quiet. That is when I can wait for 20, 30, or more seconds, for the speech to perhaps return. Sometimes it does, and other times it does not. Sorry, am only giving you symptoms and not causes, but right now, I do not know what is Causing WE to run so badly. -- Dave ___ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared. Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11
Hi, I'm running WE 9.2 and Windows 7 HP 64-bit on a 6-year old Acer laptop with only 2 Gigs of ram. It has a ATI Radian HD3200 graphics and Realtech HD sound card built-in and I'm not experiencing the constant crashes that others are reporting. My biggest complaaint about I.E. 11 is encountering links that can't be opened, buttons that can't be clicked, combo boxes that can't be activated and so on. I am particularly disappointed that the Walmart.com web site is almost impossible to use any more. In the past, I've ordered from Walmart.com every 6 to 8 weeks. The orders consisted of non-perishible food, household items and personal products at very competitive prices. I was unable to complete a questionaire on line in preparation for a doctor's appointment because links wouldn't open and edit boxes wouldn't accept text. These type of issues directly affect my ability to function independently as a blind person. I know that a screenreader can't overcome a poorly designed web site but I can empathize with those that feel that accessibility in general is not as good as it should be nowadays. I will continue to use WE and hope that future releases will address some of these issues. WE 9.2 and IE 11
Having tried all the suggested possible fixes for WE 9.2 not working well with IE 11, I think it can be said with confidence that WE 9.2 is a step backwards when it comes to working well with IE 11. Re: WE 9.2 and IE 11 and chrome causing WE9.2 crashes with alt d
Hi to all and Curtis in particular, Thanks for posting, and I urge everyone with WE9.2 crashing or silence problem to post; so that this problem can be debugged. Firstly all of the triggers mentioned by Curtis for causing WE9.2 to crash or go silent are also happening to me. They are more frequent with windows 10 than with windows 7. Also, it usually it takes pressing a key twice to get things done. to press a key twice to get it to respond. For example, in Thunderbird for me to select an email from the inbox or to delete it, I need to press the key twice. If I am reading an email and want to delete it, I need to press delete twice. Yesterday I installed chrome onto both windows 7 and windows 10 and pressing alt d causes WE9.2 to crash -- Good Luck, Manny please help me reach a million clicks by forwarding my stand-up comedy performance to your friends, or Tweet or Facebook it. ** ** ** ** ** **http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75fbevlz10g ** ** ** ** ** computer specifications: Window Eyes 9.2 , Dell xps420 Windows 7 home premium, with dual boot to windows 10 with 8 gb RAM, Intel q6600 quad core drivers and software updated. RE: WE 9.2 and IE 11
Hi: Happens here on my Windows 8.1 machine with WE 9.2 and IE 11. The symptoms are losing speech, losing the up and down arrow keys and usually the tabbing keys and sometimes the alt-tab function. Sometimes the ctl-alt-w keys will bring it back but often only partially. Sometimes firing up narrator and moving around the web page by tabbing will then have WE start speaking again but often without the use of the up and down arrow keys and it is likely to fail again unless I exit and ReStart IE and sometimes the machine itself. Sometimes firing up jaws will work to help WindowEyes come back, note that jaws still reads things correctly so the pages are there, and sometimes just refreshing the page might help but not usually. I have noticed that often when I do manage to get speech back the cursor or whatever is around an input or active control on the page like a search box or one of those menu bars with various control options and sometimes if I get away from them quickly I can avoid the problem, sometimes not so this is not a solid idea but has been the case often enough to indicate a possible point of the problem source. Another problem I have, had allot with another browser, firefox, was that WE was having all kinds of problems with flash objects crashing firefox. It got so bad I dumped firefox and just live with all the IE speech problems in WindowEyes. The thing here is that while I am not getting major page messages from firefox that it has crashed due to the flash problems these pages likely still use flash in Internet Explorer so may be another source of WE Problems - don't know. I went to this site and tabbed up and down maniacally, moved by headings, lists, landmarks, etc. and had no problems. I then did a search and bounced all around again. And again it was rock solid. Still getting a lot of crashes with Windows 9.2 and IE11. Did someone say something about an auto-recovery feature? Well it hasn't happened for me yet; I still have to press control alt W to get WE back. Also, still got the issue with Audible downloads where Window-Eyes sticks halfway through the download and will neither close nor open and I have to reboot. Must say I thought these bugs had been ironed out but it seems not. Windows Seven 64 bit with latest Window-Eyes!
