Re: IMAP filters

Hi Peter,

now, quick filters in 5.3.x, but still no working IMAP.

Great... As I said before: useless fancy stuff but not the basics.

I cannot understand the product policy, if there was or is any, of Ritlabs.

Re: IMAP filters

2012-09-25 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Gleason!

Broken imap is a thing of the past for most of us, I suspect.

Is there something wrong using IMAP or how do you work? POP3 is kinda
outdated, IMAP is the future.

And Ritlabs manged it to never get IMAP working 100% over the years. Not
many companies get this done as perfect as Ritlabs.

Or do you think that this IMAP implementation crap is good enough?

Hi Peter!

I am the only one p*ssed off that IMAP filtering still does not work?

No, I am p*ssed, too. And I am using IMAP filters a lot, too. They work
somehow, but not completly which is forcing me moving mails around every
few days for 15-30 minutes... Great!

Well, it seems to be more important of implementing fancy stuff and letting
people pay for this instead of getting the basic features up and running.
Letting me pay and pay and pay all over again since v2 and the promise that
IMAP will work soon still works, but not for much longer, which I can
promise here.

IMAP purge, mark as deleted, filters

2011-08-09 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

I just did some IMAP testing and made some experiences for months which I
would like to share here. Maybe you have information for me how I can get
rid of the problems, maybe it turns out that I noticed some bugs.

When I delete a message on a IMAP account with TB, the message gets marked
as deleted in the folder where it was and copied to the Trash folder. I
think this is the behavior have I set up in Account Properties / Mail
Management / Deletion. Although it says move the message to Trash.

I also noticed that when I filter a message to a local account or move it
there by hand (I do this a lot to archive messages on my local machine and
move the messages away from the server) the messages stay in the IMAP
account and are marked as read. Like the deleted messages described above I
can purge/compact the folder, e.g. with Roundcube Webmail.

How is it possible to really delete (purge) the messages within TB?
Thunderbird for example has an option to do just that.

When using the filters for moving messages from IMAP into local folders I
notice for months now that some filters are executed, some are not. All
filters look the same, only the source and destination folders plus the
conditions differ a bit. If I use the filters by hand (right mouse,
re-filter), all filters work just fine.

Does andybody else notice IMAP stuff like this? Did I set up something
wrong or are these bugs of TB?

2011-08-05 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi!

I cannot reproduce this. I use IMAP on a Courier server and gmail.
Both seem to work OK in this respect.

Here I still cannot log in. I also have a Courier server running.

With 5.0.2.22 I had the problem that IMAP said something about illegal
characters. I deleted the spam messages via webmail and then I was able
to synchronize the folders.

Now TB does not really much - it logs in and then the connection breaks
right away. And no, I won't delete one ham mail after the other to see
if this might be a problem.

Cheers,
Martin

Re: 5.0.12 Thread mark as read

2011-06-22 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Stuart!

I attached two screenshots (one to this mail, one to the next - because
of mail size...). I did mark a couple of threads and made a screenshot
(before), then I marked the threads as read (by using the context menu
which appears with the right mouse button) and made another screenshot
 (after).
So you are trying to mark numerous threads as read when they are
collapsed. You can do that easily when they are selected as you have done
by just selecting Mark as Read instead of Mark Thread as read, or use
 Ctrl+M.

Hm, I don't understand.

I selected several collapsed (which is default and mostly the case here)
threads, use the right mouse button to mark the threads as read. This works
sometimes, sometimes not. First I thought it has something to do if first
message of the the first or last marked thread is read or unread. But no, I
checked just now.

BTW: Problem still active in 5.0.14.1...

5.0.12 Thread mark as read

2011-05-03 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

as my bug reports simply get ignored when replying to a release info I'm
starting new threads now...

Thread mark as read still does not work correctly. I mentioned this already

It works when you only mark unread threads (which means the first message
has to be unread). But it does not work when you first mark a read thread
and then several unread threads.

Can somebody confirm? Can anybody fix this?

Re: 5.0.8 release

2011-04-06 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Maxim,

up and running.

I'm using IMAP with my main account and a somehow unusual setup:

All mails I get on several email addresses (business, private etc pp...)
are routed to this main account. Also several mails are sorted into folders
on the mail server. I read mails with my smartphone and via webmailer and
from time to time I empty the account by downloading the mails to my local
mail client (TheBat). As I use subfolders I download the mails by filter
(move) the mails into local folders of my several local mail accounts.

This did work sometimes with 4.x, and works a lot better in 5.x, but not
perfect.

For example: I click on receive mails for the IMAP account. TheBat
connects to the server and checks all folders. After that, the filters
start working and move mails to my local accounts. But just _some_ folders.
E.g. the folder where the TheBat mailing list mails are stored is
untouched. I see the mails after TheBat checked the folder, but the mails
stay there until I do a manual refilter. Then the mails are moved to my
local folders. I cannot see _any_ difference between the different filters
here.

Can somebody confirm?

Re: S/MIME cetificate error?

2010-01-08 Thread Martin Sebald
Hello mse!

It's just a guess, but your S/MIME certificate says that it's 2048 bits.
I've had some bad experiences when I got my first 2048 bits certificate
and quickly stepped back to 1024 because too many clients can't handle
them and Outlook Express users even reported not being able to reply to
 me anymore.
You also might want to try what happens when you switch from S/MIME
internal implementation to MS Crypto API. Maybe there's a change in
 behavior that could help.

I tried but no certificate was found. Not surprise because I downloaded the
certificates via Firefox, they never were installed in Windows.

I might try this during the weekend. But the internal impementation should
work - which also makes more sense that the MS Crypto API when using TheBat
from a different computer from time to time.

Hello mse!

when sending a mail to a friend who is using TheBat, too - he sees the
 attached error message.
The friend I was talking about upgraded from 4.1.11 to 4.2.16 Final
right now. Before, signed mails from him were fine in Squirrelmail and
everywhere else, now signed mails from him are broken as my mails.

Inside TheBat the mails look fine. Interesting is, that my mails, which
were shown as invalid with a red cross in my friends 4.1.11 TheBat are
now shown as valid in the 4.2.16 Final version.

I have Version 4.2.18 running on my machine. I installed the required
certificates from the website and now your mail appears as properly signed
 and valid.
I'm afraid, I can't help you; here everything looks fine.

Yes, everything looks fine INSIDE TheBat and when sending mails from one
TheBat to another TheBat.

The fun starts when you try to verify the signatures with another mailer
than TheBat, e.g. Squirrelmail, Thunderbird or something else.

There the signature is broken and invalid.

This was not the case with older TheBat versions so something was changed
and screwed up the signature thing.

I've had some bad experiences when I got my first 2048 bits certificate
and quickly stepped back to 1024 because too many clients can't handle
them and Outlook Express users even reported not being able to reply to
 me anymore.

Well, could be that some clients don't handle 2048 bit certificates.

But when I tested the scenario with a friend of mine he sent me a testmail
with TheBat 4.1.11 and his fancy brand new StartSSL 2048 bit certificate.
The certificate was valid in my TheBat 4.2.16, Squirrelmail, a linux mail
client and also in Thunderbird. After he upgraded his TheBat installation
to 4.2.16 as well, mails signed with the same certificate (nothing was
changed in the configuration, just upgraded to the then most recent
version) were only valid in TheBat, not in any other mail client software.

christmas editions have more than 80 bugfixes, what new fancy features
 are You talking about?

I'm talking about the usual way many bugs are treated comparing to adding
new features.

We had this discussion many times here in the beta list.

Usually I would not be concerned that a bug is not fixed after some days.
But with these discussions in the past and that just nobody replied or
commented this bug concernes me that there will be a long waiting time
until something happens.

Re: S/MIME cetificate error?

2009-12-30 Thread Martin Sebald
Hello Maurice,

I know that the certificate only appears valid when the root and
intermediate certificates are there.

The problem here is that it seems that there is some kind of message format
error. If the message format was ok, the signature would show as not valid.
But the mail client would be able to read the signature.

In my case the mail is somehow broken, at least for Squirrelmail and this
Linux mail client I mentioned in my first mail.

Can someone confirm my problems?

Hello again,

ok, it's a issue with the current TheBat! version.

when sending a mail to a friend who is using TheBat, too - he sees the

The friend I was talking about upgraded from 4.1.11 to 4.2.16 Final right
now. Before, signed mails from him were fine in Squirrelmail and everywhere
else, now signed mails from him are broken as my mails.

Inside TheBat the mails look fine. Interesting is, that my mails, which
were shown as invalid with a red cross in my friends 4.1.11 TheBat are now
shown as valid in the 4.2.16 Final version.

Problem is now reported here:

S/MIME cetificate error?

2009-12-29 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

I noticed that in Squirrelmail S/MIME signed mails from me appear not as
they should. See attached picture.

Also signed mails appear not valid in other mail clients like this one:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.7) Gecko/20091228
Lightning/1.0b1pre Shredder/3.0.1pre
(Taken from X-Mailer header data, I don't know what mailer this exactly
is.)

When I download my own messages they appear valid in TheBat!.

This message should be signed, too.

Does someone else has the same problem or can say more about this?

IMAP Message Filter not working

2009-03-08 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

I use IMAP filters to filter mails in IMAP folders on the mailserver to a
local account on my machine. All filters work similar. I set conditions and
if the conditions match the message should get moved into this other
account.

Some filters to work perfectly, some filters don't. Here's one of the
filters which is working:

 TB! Message Filter
beginFilter
UID: [95CDE010.01C9A013.5EF2DB4A.4628F476]
Name: TB\20Beta
Filter: {\0D\0A\20`5`0`List-Id:\20tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com\0D\0A}
MoveMessage folder
\5c\5cmar...@sebald.com\20pop3\5ccomputer\5cthebat!\5ctb\20beta
IsActive
IsSendQueue
endFilter

And here is a filter which is not working:

 TB! Message Filter
beginFilter
UID: [8DACABE0.01C9A019.6E46D478.1CBCCC5F]
Name: mseb...@hot-chilli.net\20amavis-user
Filter:
{\0D\0A{\0D\0A\20`5`0`List-Id:\20General\20discussion\20list\20about\20AMaViS\0D\0A}\0D\0A}
MoveMessage folder \5c\5cmseb...@hot-chilli.net\5camavis-user
IsActive
IsSendQueue
endFilter

The only difference is that the filters which work affect messages which
are stored in folders without subfolders. The filters which don't work
affect messages in folders with subfolders, e.g. the INBOX folder, but also
a folder named INBOX.Newsletter (where I created subfolders, e.g.
TheBat-Mailinglists).

Can somebody help? Is this a bug or did I setup something wrong?

The filter did not work on your messages, they remained in the inbox,

Maybe there is a dependancy on whether a message is signed or not?
The last two _signed_ messages from Martin Sebald were not filtered

default charset

2008-03-27 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

is there any suggestion what charset is best to use as default? (I'm from
Germany so 99,99% of the mostly German and English mails are written and
recieved in latin letters.)

At the moment I'm using Latin 9 (ISO) but I was thinking about changing
this to Unicode (UTF-8). No real reason given but UTF-8 seems to be the
future as many applications and operating systems are changing from ISO to
UTF-8.

And a TheBat! specific question: Is it useful to force a charset when
answering to mails or keeping to the charset the original mail was?

And what does the option default charset in the folder properties box
do? Is this the charset which is used when creating a new message or
replying a message? And what about the use character set option in
account properties / new message template? Does this override other
settings or is this overridden by the folder properties?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi Vili!

Good point. Just forgot about this list. ;-) I'm also subscribed but I

While you wrote this message, a quick test would have given you the
answer. :) So, instead of answer this, I encourage you to make that
 test.
(I hope you dont feel I am rude: I would do the same to my daughter:
let her explore things to make her _better_.)

Sure, I could try but there are two reasons I did not:

1) I get asked all day about computer problems so in this case I just
behave like my customers. It's quicker and easier, also I don't want to
invent the wheel a second time. ;-)

2) I can try the behaviour of these settings and afterwards I can say how
it works, maybe. But I don't know the real reasons why there are several
possibilities to set the charset.

Re: default charset

2008-03-27 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Vili!

I just realized you are an old beta tester. Strange questions... I
 thought somebody is lost.

;-) As said in the other message I am subscribed to all lists but I
usually only read this list and also I only write in this list, from time
to time. I'm more like a passive beta tester and only write when something
really matters to me.

is there any suggestion what charset is best to use as default? (I'm
from Germany so 99,99% of the mostly German and English mails are
written and recieved in latin letters.)
At the moment I'm using Latin 9 (ISO) but I was thinking about
changing this to Unicode (UTF-8). No real reason given but UTF-8
seems to be the future as many applications and operating systems are
 changing from ISO to UTF-8.
I use the same charset to reply mails that I got.

So what is your default charset? You replied to my message by using
us-ascii as charset.

Also I noticed that my first message does not have any charset at all in
the message header?!? I wrote in Latin 9 (ISO), h...?!?

And a TheBat! specific question: Is it useful to force a charset when
answering to mails or keeping to the charset the original mail was?
I think, in English/German mails, it is not an issue... I think, if
you would have Chinese, Cyrillic contacts, that would be an issue.

As I wrote, I'm not a real specialist with charsets. I just noticed that
there must be something around when for example Debian changed from
ISO-8859 to UTF-8 with the last release. Also MySQL-Server changed from
ISO-8859 to UTF-8. There must be a reason for this so I asked myself if it
is useful or not doing the same with my email message format. Maybe some
mailer programs may have problems with ISO charsets in the future?!?

Re: How to recover messages?

2008-03-27 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Paul!

MS As you can see, I use OTFE.
TF Bad choice.
MS Is there a trick? ;-)
TF Use plain. OTFE doesn't seem to support recovering the messages. At
TF least that is my experience with Voyager, have tried many ways.
Poor advice for someone who has the potential of compromise. I have
customers around the world using OTFE with success.

The reason I am using OTFE is because I'm also using TB! on my notebook. I
tought it might be better to encrypt the mail database instead of
encrypting the whole hard drive because of performance and other reasons.

My new notebook now offers hardware encryption so OTFE might be outdate
for me but I really can understand the argument Thomas brought up. OTFE is
very useful for many people. But it seems to be that OTFE isn't fully
developed when looking onto database recovery.

Re: default charset

2008-03-27 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Vili!

Also I noticed that my first message does not have any charset at all in
the message header?!? I wrote in Latin 9 (ISO), h...?!?
It had charset=iso-8859-15, which _is_ Latin 9

Does the mailing list alter the mail header and modifies charset
information? This would not make any sense at all...

Your mail again contains this in the mail header:

 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hm... Peters mail also contained this charset information. Is this correct?

My mail header looks like this:

 Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary0173761011==

Maybe because of the S/MIME certificate. I will send this mail without
S/MIME. But how does the foreign mail client know how to show my mail?

Re: default charset

2008-03-27 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Peter,

and first of all thank you for all the information about this character
set stuff you are providing. Very interesting and also helpful.

Sure: for e-mail there is a method to declare the used character set,
but not for text files ... And if used commonly for text products, why
stick with an old system for e-mail? :-) So: let's switch and show the
world: we're not dinosaurs, we use not only a modern MUA, but also see
the advantages of a modern character encoding system ;-)

I also like being a pioneer and I also like it using new fancy stuff. So I
fully agree with your words.

But is this the right thing to do? The question is what charset is the
best to use to be compatible with most of the other guys on the internet.
I'm not talking about Windows 95 users who might run into problems but I'm
talking about normal users with Outlook (Express) or Thunderbird or
webmail client users. Do most of the modern mail clients support UTF-8 and
is this the first choice for mail encoding or should we stick a little bit
longer to ISO-8859?

Hi all!

Maybe because of the S/MIME certificate. I will send this mail without
S/MIME. But how does the foreign mail client know how to show my mail?

Ok. Without S/MIME I also get

 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

in my mail header.

When I send a mail to my webmail account I get this:

 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-15

So mails to the mailing list are somehow altered. Hopefully not only the
mail header but also the content of the mail itself.

Hi Maxim,

is there some problem with the internal backup?

I discovered that TB was backing up my data!

Interesting because I never used the internal backup routine, also I never
configured anything to make an automated backup.

Where are the backup files stored? I was not able to see any destination
folder or anything like that.

I upgraded to 4.0.14.9 now but I did not read anything about this in .8
and .9 release information.

I also had this problem before, see here:

Hi all,

I had this again just some minutes ago.

When right clicking TB in task bar and clicking on close a Backup window
appeared.

TB backuped my accounts!

Interesting, because I never configured a automatic backup or used the

Two questions: Where can I disable this and where are the files stored? I
don't need the backup files because I use my own backup method.

How to recover messages?

2008-02-12 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

maybe not a beta issue and a RTFM issue here with me, but I want to ask
anyway.

During downloading messages my computer hang up the day before yesterday.
In maintainance centre TB showed two damaged folders and said that it was
able to recover messages. The folder in the TB folder list shows zero
messages, also after restarting TB.

When taking a look into the folder directory I see the following files:

MESSAGES.BCK
MESSAGES.EBB
MESSAGES.EBI
MESSAGES.IBK

As you can see, I use OTFE.

The first two files should contain the messages. I tried to import both
files to another folder but wasn't able to do this, 0 messages imported.

Is there a trick? ;-)

Hi Gleason!

Hasn't everyone seen this? Well maybe not, so here it is from the
 Ritlabs website:

The largest-scale changes were made in The Bat!’s interface.
Users will see a totally new program.
 [...]

Sounds fancy and supports exactly what I wanted to say: A lot of cosmetic
fixes and some fancy bright new colorful stuff but old issues aren't fixed.
I think that a state of the art modern interface should come with state of
the art features like IMAP and newsgroups ability.

The last time I tried IMAP it did not work as it should, see here in the
group. I especially had problems with filters and stuff like this. Also
some other issues which makes IMAP completly unusable for me. Funny is that
I paid for IMAP when I bought v2.

Plus plus plus. But I'm really tired of talking this all and all over
again. I'm complaining every six months or so about the company's politics
and the priority of issues, bugs and stuff like this and it seems that I am
the almost the only one who isn't happy with this.

I agree that the TB interface should be state of the art. This is important
for a lot of (new) customers. But don't forget the tons of to-do's you can
see in the bug tracker and in the list of long promised features.

Re: IMAP folder list synchronization

2007-06-27 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Stuart!

 1) Simplify the folder name. Maybe move it to a known folder as a test.
I'm not sure if an email address is a valid folder name for this
 purpose.
Well, it's not a folder name, the mail address is the name of the POP3
account the message should get moved to.
So you are moving it to a POP3 account. Well I just tried that and it
 works as well.

Interesting. Very interesting.

 2) Move your filter higher in the filter list. It may be that some
other filter is acting on the message first and not triggering this new
 filter.
This filter is the only active filter. Also it is the second filter in
 row (after one disabled filter).
H, still works for me even after an inactive filter.

Hm. It seems that IMAP is not working very well.

Did some more testing and it seems to be general instability in IMAP. I
created a new filter after restarting TB and it worked the first time,
but then quit working. I then sent more test messages and it quit
working. I then quit TB and then re-launched and it started working
 again.

So this is the traditional stuff we are talking about? IMAP is a feature
but does not work. Great...

Don't know what to suaggest as Ritlabs does not seem to want to work on
 IMAP anymore in version 3.

You mean that feature I paid for when upgrading from 1.x to 2.0? Or you
mean the feature which was promised to work 2 years ago? Or you mean that
feature I have to wait for and pay for version 4 first?

Very unpleasant.

No, it was one of the folders that did not change since the time I setup

In Manage IMAP folders the synchronize checkbox of this folder was not

I also tried to change the mail which should get moved to the local POP3

IMAP folder list synchronization

2007-06-22 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

again I tried my luck with IMAP. I was very unlucky again. Just wanted to
make sure that the problem isn't sitting in front of the computer... ;-)

I created several folders on my test mailbox the last weeks using the
webmail interface. Also there are several mails in the Inbox and the
created folders. I pressed Recieve new mails in TB.

Following three problems:

1) I created a filter which should move mails with a certain sender in a
certain folder to a folder in another TB account. Nothing happened. The
reason I like to do this: I want to store mails local because of the huge
size and numbers, also I use TB a lot of when being offline. The reason I
want to use IMAP instead of POP3: I need to create folders on the
mailserver because I get ~200 mails a day and cannot reasonable read these
mails online via webmail without sorting this serverside to folders.

2) TB does not show the new folders and I did not find any way to initiate
something like this.

3) Inbox appeared bold and showed the number of new mails not until I
clicked onto it.

As I said, maybe not a TB problem, but I just wanted to be sure.

This should work, it does here. You mention below you can't see all
your folders, is the one it is supposed to move to one of the ones you
can't see? If so se below.

No, it was one of the folders that did not change since the time I setup
the IMAP account.

In Manage IMAP folders the synchronize checkbox of this folder was not
checked. I changed this and tried again, also disconnected from the IMAP
server and connected again. No luck.

I also tried to change the mail which should get moved to the local POP3
account to unread again. Also no luck.

Is there something special I have to look at for IMAP filter rules which I
simply forgot or do not know?

 2) TB does not show the new folders and I did not find any way to
 initiate something like this.
Right click on the account name and select Manage IMAP folders. Then
select Reset List. You can now mange each folder in terms of
 synchronization.

Ah thank you. Clearly a problem which sat in front of the computer. ;-)

Worked as you described.

 3) Inbox appeared bold and showed the number of new mails not until I
 clicked onto it.
This sometimes happens and seems to be a bug.

Well ok no big problem for me.

But this filter problem really is a showstopper for me in my particular
setup I want to run here (as described in my first mail).

Your message is quite contradicting: by saying Yes you are asserting
that 3.98.06 hangs on Vista, and further you are writing that haven't yet
tried .6 on Vista. Could you please try .6 on Vista and let us know the
 results?

I was referring to the results of John C (see bug tracker).

When I was having problems with previous version (.5 and earlier) TB hung
with more than 90% CPU.

I will try it with Vista, be back tomorrow or so with results. Vista only
runs on my notebook which I use for traveling mostly.

Hi Alexander!

I will do so. Although I don't have much faith that something is
happening because of this entry into bugtracker.
Have you removed the old config files from your account directory? Maybe
TB mistakenly used your old folder config file for whatever reason (which
 surely is a bug).

No not yet. I don't have much time left right now. When I'm at home I'm
still working on my server. This is also the reason why I transfered TB to
my Vista notebook for a while...

Were it always the same folders disappearing?

No. Randomly any folder was/could be affected.

You should post the URL to the BT entry here so that those who confirmed
it (Alto and Mark IIRC) can easily add their confirmations to it.

Good point! :-)

Interesting. I tried again and this time it worked.

Had the same problem with version 3.98.1 yesterday. I tried this version 4

Now I reinstalled 3.98.2.2, started it, it worked. I quit TB and started it

always worked. Strange...

Re: The Bat! 3.98.02

2007-03-02 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Simon!

It's interesting that not many people seem to be affected by this Vista
 problem.
Are many people running Vista though? :)

Hm, good point. ;-)

Not really Beta related, but how are you finding it with your apps and
 hardware?  I don't know if you have seen the BBC website article here;
makes interesting reading for folks considering Vista -:
 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6407419.stm
We've had a number of test units running at the office with Vista
installations both Beta and Release it's been a mixed bag of joy, pain
and disaster! One thing is clear, the Microsoft Upgrade Adviser cannot
be trusted, very often no=yes and yes=no :)

Well, really bit of off-topic, but interesting anyway.

Looking at all pros and cons I'm happy with Vista.

Vista takes a lot of hardware. My notebook is a Pentium M 740 (Centrino)
with 1.73GHz and 1GB of RAM. Starting Vista without any programs installed
takes 540MB of RAM. Now with all applications installed it takes a bit more
(startup stuff etc pp) and the system partition with 15GB is nearly full. I
suggest 20GB as system partition of you don't use it for My document or
stuff like TB data files.

It recognized most of my hardware on install, the rest excluding the card
reader (I used the HP driver for that) was recognized after the first
Windows Update. On my client it did not recognize a Adaptec 2940U (!) and a
Creative Soundblaster Live! Audigy. I did not try to get drivers for this
(working on my server takes a lot of time...) but it did confuse me. Most
of all the Adaptec 2940U. I need this thing because of the expensive HP
scanner I'm running with this card.

Look and feel is great, I also like the new security stuff. You work as a
normal user now and if a program needs administrative rights a check box
appears.

Games seem to be a problem, but Quake 3 Arena runs. ;-) And I don't need
anything more. Also the 64 bit version seems to be a problem, too. Lack of
drivers.

What I'm really having problems with are the PC-Card cards I'm running.
Most of them don't work anymore. No drivers. But I think this will be
solved in the next weeks/months.

I also installed Office 2007 but did not use it exept opening and printing
existing documents (Word and Excel). This really looks strange but all
people tell me that for beginners it has a lot of advantages. For me as a
Office since Word 6.0 user it looks very confusing.

Re: Again: lost folders in folder-list!

2007-02-21 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all, Hi Alexander!

It took a while for me to come back to this thread. Sorry. Had a lot of
things to do, including server upgrade... ;-)

Talking about unconstructive stuff we should talk about Paul first...
 ;-)
Well, its only natural that your tone of voice triggers similar
responses. I remember we talked about that via PM a long long time ago.

Could be. To be honest, I'm not sure. Has been a while, hasn't it?

I posted this on December, 6th, 2005, and nothing happened exept one
post from Roelof. Also no suggestion or some questions regarding my
 special environment from Ritlabs.
As Miguel suggests you should at least log the occurence of the bug in
 the bugtracker.

I will do so. Although I don't have much faith that something is happening
because of this entry into bugtracker.

.
.
.

Done... :-)

Talking about serious things I cannot find anything really working how
it should when trying to use IMAP, which was a promised feature in v3,
or was it v2?!? And yes, I also tried on a standard WinXP machine. Well,
it is using a Pentium M processor like my server, so it's not standard
anymore... ;-) But sorry for getting off-topic...
I'm using IMAP, and except for the message counters, I'm very happy with
the performance. I'm using Mulberry (the IMAP client as they say) at
work to peek into my private mails now and then, and I must say that I
prefer TB's performance and appearance over Mulberry.

Ah interesting. Maybe I should give IMAP another try. Thank you for this
information! :-)

I also do not have TB files stored in my user profile.
So in theory they're accessible from every account?

Yes. But as I am the only person using this computer and the only person
who knows the program password I consider it safe.

Hi Miguel!

Well if you think so. I posted this on December, 6th, 2005, and nothing
happened exept one post from Roelof. Also no suggestion or some
questions regarding my special environment from Ritlabs.
And... did you open any BT report? Even though they may take no action,
Ritlabs looks at BT reports. While you can never be sure they will read
what is posted in this list.

I filed a report a few minutes ago. Hopefully it has more effect on Ritlabs
than this thread here in the beta list.

Also, you seem to have had this 'lost folders' problem more than once and
with different versions. However, there are many users like me, using TB
since version 1.x and testing 99% of the betas since then, who have never
lost a single folder and I have around 500 of them on the average.
Without completely discarding a possible TB bug, don't you think there
must be something in your 'peculiar' configuration that is causing or
 inducing this problem?

Well, to be honest: I don't know for sure. I'm pretty sure that my
configuration isn't special or different to the normal configuration, but
I cannot be 100% sure.

From what I wrote here: Do you think there is something special? I cannot
see anything extraordinary.

Re: Again: lost folders in folder-list!

2007-02-21 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Mark!

I have better things to do than reporting about folders disappearing from
TB! It's something that has been going on for years and I have to type in
the names one by one every time. It often takes some time before I see
they have disapeared (f.i. when a message that should have been filtered
to it stays in the inbox) because a lot of the folders are seldom used.

Same here. It takes time until I see that folders are missing. By then I
cannot say when they got lost. I have about 200 folders in my main account
and do not use every folder every day.

BTW: I can imagine solving this problem in an OFTE setup can be more
 time-consuming.

VERY time-consuming because you have to use several tools to sync the
folders in folder view and on the hard drive. I don't lie when I write that
this takes hours.

Re: Again: lost folders in folder-list!

2007-02-21 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi Miguel!

A second reason is that I often sychronize TB to my notebook. For this
the quickest solution is synchronizing the TB directory (everything,
which means program files plus data files, is inside this directory) to
the same location (in my environment D:\INTERNET\TheBat) plus copying
 the registry keys.
 How do you do/achieve synchronisation?

I'm doing a binary compare of the contents of source and destination folder
with a nice little tool. If something does not match at the destination it
gets overwritten by the source.

After that I import the registry settings into the registry on the
destination computer.

The TB directories are at the same place, D:\INTERNET\TheBat! .

I'm wondering if your lost folders could be a consequence of this.

Hmmm, I don't think so. As you see above the procedure is very easy to
handle.
