Quibbling with moderators after personally attacking long-standing

Thanks for this.

However, the fill in question is hunsp32.dll

When that file is in the directory, the following happens.

When you open the message editor (on the official release) select spell
checker, select options, hunspell does not operate, it is greyed out.
When you open the message editor (current beta) the program locks up and crashes

Remove hunsp32.dll. and everything works.

I ended up going back to beta 5.3.2.3. IMAP speed is back, the Manage IMAP
Folders dialog box pops up quickly, so life is good.

There are some inconsistencies: several mails in various folders stay
marked as unread, and I can't move or delete them, either. This is
somewhat a pain, because I depend on the bolded mail counts showing in
the folder tree to check that I've read important mails from various
clients and topics.

I never had more than 2GB of the 10GB limit in the account, so I'm not
sure what happened. I still have a lot of other issues with TB and
this main IMAP account, but I'll just slog on, or maybe give up IMAP
for a while and convert the Gmail back to POP3. Right now, I'm going
to roll back TB to last night's state, from backups, see where that
leads. This TB activity is eating up all my time, that's for sure.

There was no trash but I did delete some of the Sent mails. GMail
shows I'm using 1.8GB of 10GB space. Whatever,
now I _can_ get into the account using TB, but:

Mails now appear in the IMAP inbox, but they take 20-30 seconds to
view, and filtering seems to be broken.

The IMAP maintenance box doesn't show any subscribed folders in the
main account, but the other @thebat.net accounts show structure.

HELP!! can't get into my main TheBat.net (GMail) account: Account exceeded command or bandwidth limits. (Failure)

2012-11-28 Thread Stuart Pye
Hello TBBETA,

About 3 hours ago I stopped receiving mail from my main IMAP TheBat.net
GMail account. The error from TB is: Account exceeded command or bandwidth
limits. (Failure)

I was running 5.3.2.12 beta, so I backed down to, in order, 5.3.2.11,
5.3.2.10, then to 5.2.2.0, but there is no difference, the same login
failure occurs. I can log into the main
account with a browser, and mail is still coming in. Also, I have 2
other thebat.net IMAP accounts, which are still working fine from any
version of TB that I've loaded.

Below are 2 sets of logs. The top set are from the account that has
failed, the lower set, separated by a string of equal marks
(==), shows one of the other thebat.net accounts I
have that is still working fine. Also, my main POP3 account is fine.
Can anyone help me? The account that has failed is my main business
account, so this is a major problem right now.

Thanks,

Stuart Pye

Yes, it would be more user friendly if it took the general user straight to
a reporting page.

If Ritlabs want to keep the reports from general users separated from those
from Beta testers then the report form could include a place for Beta
testers to give their tester password.

I'm not sure whether many testers would use the facility as I imagine most
of us have some other method for quick access to the Mantis website. I use
Roboform.

Time ago it redirected to a form for sending a message as you said. It

We report a lot more issues than regular users and need to be extra
cautious to avoid duplicates. So if this is fixed, it should lead to

If you want to export some mails from Outlook the easy way it's to
drag and drop they to a folder.

If you want to import them into TB! you could use the import wizard
for EML files.

For import they to other Outlook you could use also the drag and drop
way (folder to outlook).

Dear all,

A friend running Outlook as his eMail client having a large number of
folders with 100-erts of eMails in the respective folders. Some of
them have pictures some not. BTW; his Outlook file has a volume of
over 2 GB.
Now he like to "export" some of those eMails or Folders to an external
drive but retain the ability to look at those at any given moment.

That is not so easy in Outlook.

As I do not know Outlook so well I like to ask your help and
suggestions how this can be done. I tried to export One folder and
then Import it again - that produced a bad result.
FYI: long time ago I tried to convince him to use TB! but to no avail.
I still try to convince him but need more time and thus a intermed.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

Opened a new entry in Altiris Software Virtualization Solution,
installed the latest publicly available Beta version of TB! (5.0.8;
don't tell me it's a Release version!), started TB! & checked if the

What does it say? "What's new in version 3".

Me thinks the Help file is in need of an update!

loss - maybe the Message Base or Index is damaged - could be, but how to
test this?

Nothing than the first Error with Memory Leaks and now regardless what

No, i did not, but i will test now took some longer time, to much

The 2 Plugins in State "Error" disabled.

but not really.

When it worked, the log said:

 7/3/2009, 12:41:29: FETCH - processing 2 folder(s)
 7/3/2009, 12:41:31: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received

Now, that it does not work (I know that I got emails):
 7/3/2009, 13:30:35: FETCH - receiving mail messages
7/3/2009, 13:30:36: FETCH - connected to the Exchange server

 7/3/2009, 13:30:36: FETCH - processing 1 folder(s)
 7/3/2009, 13:30:36: FETCH - connection finished - 0 messages received

The mapi32.dll in the windows/system32 dir did not change.

I need some urgent help. I have an email client that cannot download
emails. I think, something has changed in my XP system after I started
outlook that affected TB, but what is it?

You're right, minutes after I send my message I changed it again, I

Thanks, it's long but clear.

The translation I made "word by word" is very near of the meaning of
this option, but I think is not clear.

In french I translate it to
"Vous pouvez contrôler à quel moment le message sera envoyé si il est
terminé au plus tard le:"
In english it gives "You can control at what time the message will be sent if
it will be
finished later on:". I think it's more clear.

My 2 cents. :)

I totally agree; it's like this I have translated it first. But it's a
nonsense with the ability to modify the date/time after it. It's not
just having a look !

AdG> It's useless if you only use it without template macro "%Postpone", but if

Yes, but the initial sentence doesn't explain it. If the time below is
a "deadline", Rit should have written it clearly !

Thank for your explanations.

> I really don't understand the option; please enlightened me :)

I've also been thinking about that sentence. I came to the following
result:
Apart from the template-macro the entire "more"-section is the
possibility to test the settings you made in the upper section. The
sentence "If a message will be finished now, it will be sent ..." in
the upper section shows the dispatch date/time when the message will
be finished _now_.

The lower section allows you "to watch into the future". In fact it
has no effect on the dispatch date/time of the message whose settings
you're currently editing.
An example: Today it's Thursday, 28.05.2009. But you might ask the
question, "Hey, what if i wrote a message tomorrow at 11 AM and set it
for a delayed dispatch 1 day and 2 hours later, when would that
message be sent?"
The lower section allows you to answer that question. In the lower
section set date to 29.05.2009 and time to 11:00 and in the upper
section set Add days: 1 and Add Hours: 2. The sentence in the lower
section tells you that the message hypothetically created tomorrow at
11 AM will be sent on Saturday, 30.05.2009 at 13:00 (1 PM).
Of course this "test-section" has only an effect when using relative
date/time values (add days, hours, minutes) it doesn't make any sense
when using an absolute date/time setting.

This message became longer than expected. I hope i could help.

It means that you now are the proud owner of a Time Machine:

Help Needed: Contacts Grabbed Each Others' Addresses

2009-05-14 Thread Dmitry Novikov
Hi all,

What a funny nice subject, eh? :)

But I'd really appreciate your help.

I tried to copy all my 750+ contacts in a new address book (together with my 26
groups),
but each time I tried (group by group and all together), I only saw that
actually FEWER contacts were copied (744 or so)! :(

I was able to finally detect that The Bat! didn't copy contacts having "shared"
e-mail addresses.
It seems one of betas some time in the past (or maybe it was TheBatSync
utility) did some bad things like this:

2 or more of my contacts had the same names (no last names at all):

1. John: j...@john.net
2. John: j...@john.com

I discovered that (not sure since when), these 2 Johns appeared now as:

1. John: j...@john.net, j...@john.com
2. John: j...@john.com, j...@john.net

I've found several similar "duplicates" and fixed them, but I still have
several bad contacts and can't track them down! :(

Can anyone help?

Best regards,

Hello Mackley,

Yes, but there was a work around with some file that once you
registered it for each drive you could then copy it back and forth
without needing to register it each time (if my memory is correct).

I just can't recall what file that was and what or how it needed to be
changed or renamed.

Re: Voyager migratng help

2009-03-28 Thread ham...@albanach.net
Hello Nick,
I got the following from Nick Danger some time ago.

=
- There is a tokenact.dat file in the MAIL subfolder, that is specific
for the drive Voyager is installed on. Make a copy of it with
tokenact_usb.dat name in the same dir (copy somewhere else first,
rename it, move back).

- Copy the Voyager dir from your USB drive to the PC.

- Start Voyager and activate it again.

- Now make a copy of the current tokenact.dat file in the MAIL
subfolder with tokenact_PC.dat name in the same dir (copy somewhere
else first, rename it, move back).

- At this point you have tokenact.dat, tokenact_usb.dat,
tokenact_PC.dat in the MAIL subfolder. Use Voyager. If you travel,
just copy the whole Voyager onto the USB stick, delete the
tokenact.dat file, copy the tokenact_usb.dat as tokenact.dat into the
MAIL and you are ready to use it. After the travel, just copy the
whole Voyager from the USB stick onto the PC, delete the tokenact.dat
file, copy the tokenact_PC.dat as tokenact.dat into the MAIL and you
are ready to use it. I think, you get the idea.

I do this, except that I shuttle the same Voyager between my 14"
laptop (used at home), my 7" laptop (longer travel) and the USB stick
(short travel) :)
=

Hope this helps,

Regards

Hamish

Voyager use an internal encrypt key based on the device you've installed it.

If you "transfert" its directory from USB drive to hard disk, it'll
prompt you for a new registration / token / authentication matter.

Hello List,

Here's one of those things that I recall reading about, thought "Gee,

the info has since slid out of my head.

Someone here told of a method to use for Voyager where you could just
copy the entire folder from a USB drive to your hard drive as needed.
I seem to remember that it involved mostly one particular file that
you need to name/rename depending on which drive it was that you were
currently transferring the data to.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Quick Template Image Help

2009-01-06 Thread Nick Danger
Can this be done, and if so, how - as I can't seem to get it to work:

My screen capture autosaves to ScreenCap.jpg

I want to create a QuickTemplate where I can use it to insert the
capture into an email as an inline picture. I realize I need to have
the format as HMTL Only.

I try creating a quicktemplate and using the insert image function, then
selecting the file. It inserts it fine into the quicktemplate but when
calling the template from inside a message it doesn't work for me.

Any help, suggestions, or final word that it's impossible?

I subscribed to this list because I am interested in the beta development and

Re: Need help to find an alternative for TB

2008-12-17 Thread graham
A few months ago I went through this process and tried almost every email
client out there. I came back to TB! for the following reasons
(a) Other applications were slower /more bloated on my netbook
(b) Other applications were usually missing features I'd become used to in TB!

The closest was Thunderbird, but it required so many add-ins to provide
similar functionality that it slowed to a crawl. I'm hopeful that Thunderbird
3 (when announced) will address these issues.

So I'm staying with 4.0.x until I see the next Thunderbird release
(Jan/Feb '09) and then I'll decide. I'm only a POP3 man so I'm not worried
about these IMAP discussions. Previous participants are right - that TB! has
been promising improved IMAP for years, and they have re-written it more than
once.. so I'm not sure what elese they can do.

(I tried IMAP in Thunderbird - aand didn't see what the fuss was about... :)

Forte Agent is an example of such software. On the Forte WWWebsite
there is a roadmap. We know what we can expect in the next version.
Beta testing is being done by a closed group of beta testers. And
when version 5 will at last hit the main road we KNOW it will be a
finished product without any easily discernable or obvious bugs.

Development-wise, Forte Agent is the complete and absolute opposite

Take for instance Wouter Bos who thought it was a good idea to buy
what was left of an old underperforming bank, judging it was worth

I still have an old version (v2.12) on one of my computers. I'm
using it periodically with the purpose of archiving the e-mails
that have been collected by my mail server.

It has one major flaw. It tends to choke on retrieving when large
amounts of mail are residing on my server. 500 or more I'd say.
But I've found a work-around for that problem.

>2) The various releases are all "unfinished business as usual"

Let's just say The Beta! is an neverending nonstop piece of "work
in progress".

>WHAT are you doing here?

There has been a time, during versions 1.x, when I saw real
potential in The Beta! Version 2 would be a complete rewrite
in C++ and IMAP would be implemented. So I still had my hopes.

The reason I'm still lingering on on the The Beta! lists is a
mixture of nostalghia and curiosity.

I left the Bat and ended up coming back. I share some links in groups
and use Outlook Express for that since I can copy pictures and words
with underlying links from web pages and paste them into emails and
they will work which the bat cannot do at this point. Also OE can
embed sounds

When Ritlabs starts working on that part of the HTML editor I will get
very interested but I am certainly not going to get abusive because it
does not currently have those particular features. It has so much
more.

I agree with you completely. The Bat has a great interface and many
advanced features (some of which I possibly will never have the need
or desire to use). This is why I have bought a license and two
upgrades in 2 1/2 years (July, 2006; 21 Nov 2007; and yesterday).

At the same time, I think Opera, Thunderbird and even the new Yahoo!
Zimbra have more efficient, reliable and easier to set up (!!) IMAP
implementations. I should add that I use Gmail's IMAP system (having
used its POP system for years before). I greatly respect the RitLab
team, and believe that in time, TB's IMAP implementation will match
those others.

In some ways, TB's IMAP implementation reminds me of that of Mulberry
- many, many settings but too complicated for mere tech mortals.

BTW, TB is still my primary mail client, but when I repeatedly get the
warnings of "cannot retrieve message body because of processing
error," I start up Thunderbird to read the message. Eventually, it will
show up correctly in TB but that might be 10 minute or more away and
involve restarting TB. I cannot speak about other IMAP systems,
generally. I do have a very seldom used fastmail.fm account for use
with an organization, and they give detailed setup instructions for
many of the clients. Their IMAP system seems excellent.

There was supposed to be an upgrade fee for v4 and they pushed it back

You're missing the point. The reality is very simple.

Fact 1: Ritlabs is advertising a Release Version (4.0.38) on its
WWWebsite.
Fact 2: There is a list of KNOWN issues and bugs in this Release
Version.

IMO, the courteous thing to do for Ritlabs would be to handle the
issues, fix the bugs and provide the user (who isn't aware of the
ongoing Alfa-, Beta-, RC- or whatever "development" and who
probably doesn't need version 4.1.x) with a 4.0 Release Version
that is as stable and usable as possible.

Ritlabs doesn't do that. Instead they are throwing in yet another
series of half baked Alfa- Beta-, RC- or whatever versions that
have some bugs fixed and others introduced to a group of
"beta-testers" who are just able to say: "up and running".

This is not an incident, it has gone on for many, many years.

I have given up four years ago. I don't want to pay in order to be
used as a guinea pig. If you are happy with it and want to continue
using it, that's fine. But I think you should not try to obfuscate
TheBat's troubles by merely trumpetting its virtues.

I think the 3 years old message below fits well with current ongoing
discussions in this list. Of course, my requirements to find a
replacement for TB have grown since the message was sent because, no
matter what some may say, TB has added functionality and improved quite

   From: MAU

 To: tbbeta@thebat.dutaint.com
Subject: Need help to find an alternative for TB

Hello all,

I know some of you will be surprised with the subject of this messages
but, yes, it says what it says.

I haven't had enough time (and my slow typing speed doesn't help either)
to more actively participate in these past few days discussions about
bugs, if they are showstoppers or cosmetic bugs, if the latest release
should have happened, or not, if the programmers are doing this or that
when we would like them to do that or this, etc., etc.

Aside of not having time, it is always difficult to discuss about bugs.
What may be a showstopper for some may just be cosmetic for others, and
we must all accept that. I, for example, don't care about IMAP because I
don't use IMAP accounts and I don't foresee using it in the near future.
But I can fully understand that those of you that need/use it may be
upset if it doesn't work as it should.

Anyway, for a number of reasons that I will not explain now (may take
too long to explain) I have decided to look for an alternative for TB.

Since looking for alternatives and evaluating them will certainly take
time and I don't have that much (as I have said before), and since I
believe many (some?) of you are seriously considering leaving TB and
moving to another email client and maybe have already evaluated some, is
why I would kindly ask from you to advise me if you know of a package
that will allow me to do most of the things I do with TB now and that
have become essential for my work.

OK, these are some of the things the alternative package should have or
should allow me to do (in no specific order):

- It should allow to create multiple POP accounts and allow me to
set different time period for each for checking incoming email. With
different identity for each and different templates for new, reply,
forward and print for each account. It should also allow me to set a
different Address Book for each account, which, in turn, requires that I
can create and use as many ABs as I wish. I currently use 20 accounts.

- It should allow the creation of a folder tree with subfolders to any
level of deepness and the possibility of setting different identities
for each folder or subfolder. These, the different identities, I use for
example for mailing lists and newsgroups. I may have different accounts
for different news servers and then different identities for each
newsgroup. I currently have 540 folders plus some 80 Virtual Folders.

- Since I have already mentioned ABs, aside of being able to create and
use as many ABs as needed, it should allow the creation of groups and
assigning AB entries to more than one group. Also, it should be possible
to define new, reply and fwd templates for AB entries and groups.

- And talking about templates, it should allow account, AB (entry and
group) and folder templates. Yes, folder templates may be (or seem)
'dangerous' but I do use them quite a bit. Ah!, of course it should
allow QTs (Quick Templates) and the nesting of templates and QTs (I'll
give an example later).

- Obviously, when talking about templates I should not forget about
Macros and Regexp. A range of macros similar to TB would be ideal.

- I should be able to set message deletion criteria at folder level,
with the possibility of moving messages to a different folder which,
together with the 'Keep messages for N days' option will allow me to
archive 'old' messages.

- Before I finish with folders, it should allow me to set View Modes and
threading mode at folder level. I currently use 17 view modes and in
most folders I always thread by Reference which, to me, is the 'natural'
way to thread.

- It should allow the use of different viewers and editors, although I
basically use PTV and MicroEd. If only one editor is offered, I would
prefer it is as similar as possible to MicroEd (I love it).

- It should allow different ways of searching. Like with Message Finder,
Quick Search, VF filtering and quick filtering with Alt+click.

- And since I have just mentioned VFs again, and before I forget, it
should allow th

I just see that I made a small mistake. It should ask "which .rar" is

reminder in order not to do it wrong and bust my registration.

The latest .msi I have downloaded is 'International Pack v4.0.24' and
'TB!pro v4.0.24'. Further I have the latest .rar file.

Ok I remember first to install the .msi and then the latest .rar over
it. But, do I first install the 'Pro' and then the 'Int pack' or vice
versa? In addition, which is now the latest .msi I can use without any
problem (e.g. not functioning QT etc)?

Your help is appreciated. Thank you!

Okay - so "help" isn't the original subject, but it's hard to help
when you're being a little sparing on details of what your problem
might be. (Other than using Outlook Express to attempt to read a MIME

I worked for a middle-range ISP for over 5 years, i know
about getting and renewing certificates and about
installing them on the servers.

You probably have to decide yourself, if you want to make a

But the Users pay your bill - can you give yourself the

I would do almost everything, after my customer signs me

I do warn them and explain the issue, but i do not treat

I thought this right the moment now.
I would support a urgly and red Error-Message with a
Confirmation Dialog to User, becaue it is security
relevant, but i would want it to allow this for some
days/weeks/months/forever (with a second confirmation).

It is hardly an usability issue. On one hand you say you want to be
secure and on the other you want to override the security. Make your
choice and pay your dues or go to some other place that promotes
inappropriate compromise.

After 20 years I have yet to see a program that morphs itself to the
whims of the user. Rather the user has a responsibility to learn the
rules and play by them or go to a different ball game.

Why bother with a secure connection if it can be compromised? If I set
a user's antivirus to advise when there is an update instead of doing
it automatically they almost invariably will opt out of doing it. Even
worse, when it is time for renewal they will click out of renewing for
45 days in a row instead of renewing. Then I get the phone calls after
the expiration asking for help because the opportunity to click a
renewal link has disappeared. Even my school teacher daughter did
this!

I am fascinated that you want to complain because TB has the courage
to do the right thing instead of being "politically correct" like
"all" (or most) of the others.

That is their problem and mine, not yours. Besides, all (or at least
many) email clients provide this option. So the internet will not blow
just because TB! provides it too.

MM> Or do You have different reason to require this instead You are

Yes. See my example in
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] There is no new
cert, because the sysad is on vacation. That's just an example. In
fact, I don't need to defend myelf to ask for an option, even though
you might not want to use it.

Why are people so vehemently against options, just because they don't

Are you trying to save the internet by disallowing this in TB!?

once developers accept such opinion, "nobody" will use correct certs then,
everybody (including You) will confirm warning window instead changing

Or do You have different reason to require this instead You are lazy to

Why do you want to forbid me to do something? Just because you

That's great support, but the RFC doesn't force me make my connection
more secure. If I want to have a secure connection, the support is
there, and it's appreciated. If the cert is expried and I know that
this brainy of a sysad again forgot to renew it before he went on
vacation, you cut me completely off from my email. I'd rather take
chances with the missing security than missing out on important
business opportunities. Let it be up to me to set my own priorities,

If the server's certificate is expired, the sysad has failed in his
reponsibility. True. However, I can accept his shortcoming if I want
to - the RFC doesn't forbid me to. I don't know any otehr email client
that forbids me to. You are over-interpreting the RFC. It doesn't say
that the client has to lock the user out of the email if the server's
cert has expired. It only says the server's admin hasn't done his job,
which is true. Why do you think this means that the client is not
allowed to accept an expried certificate?

I am against "such" security, if You accept security, You should accept
its policy.

For example from RFC2246

F.1.1. Authentication and key exchange

TLS supports three authentication modes: authentication of both
parties, server authentication with an unauthenticated client, and
total anonymity. Whenever the server is authenticated, the channel is
secure against man-in-the-middle attacks, but completely anonymous
sessions are inherently vulnerable to such attacks. Anonymous
servers cannot authenticate clients. If the server is authenticated,
its certificate message must provide a valid certificate chain
leading to an acceptable certificate authority. Similarly,
authenticated clients must supply an acceptable certificate to the
server. Each party is responsible for verifying that the other's
certificate is valid and has not expired or been revoked.

Not I "must". I "should". And if I don't do it, I must live with the
consequences. I "must not" be nannied by my email program - especially
since other email programs don't nanny the user. They give a pop-up
