Re: Euro character
Hello Deborah, AltGr is a button which is found on European keyboards where you'd find one of the Alt buttons on North American keyboards. It acts as a second Alt button, allowing you to have a whole extra set of keyboard shortcuts. Actually it basically does the same that Alt+Ctrl keys hit together and the main use is to have 3 characters available on many keys. Take for example the 2 or E keys on a Spanish keyboard: 2 = 2 Shift+2 = AltGr+2 = @ E = e Shift+E = E AltGR+E = Cheers, -- Best regards, Miguel A. Just one question - the test mail you were sending with Netscape, did you send it through ChoiceMail, or directly to the SMTP server? It's as if this Netscape client can work with ChoiceMail (and SMTP) in ways that The Bat cannot. Hmmm. Thats what I was suspecting. I have the feeling that TB is not as fault tolerant for misbehaving SMTP-servers, or something. Here's what happens to me *every* time... 25.07.2003, 12:12:17: SEND - sending mail messages - 1 messages in queue 25.07.2003, 12:12:17: SEND - connected to SMTP server 25.07.2003, 12:12:17: SEND - authenticating (plain)... 25.07.2003, 12:12:17: SEND - Server reports error. The response is: Incorrect authentication data 25.07.2003, 12:12:17: SEND - authenticating (login)... [...] The message is sent, but only after an initial error. It would be interesting to see what the server actually says, but I don't know how to intercept the command/reply exchange. What it actual says is Incorrect authentication data. The server does not like the way TB! authenticates using method PLAIN. There're two ways using PLAIN. - Challange-Response, i.e. server asks for username, client responds, server asks for password, client responds. - parameter passing. i.e. client sends not only 'AUTH PLAIN' as command but 'AUTH PLAIN authentication'. The Bat! is, IIRC, not capable of the latter way. And RFC does not enforce authentication being done the parameter way, it only says this /CAN/ be done this way. As it seems the server does expect end enforce the parameter passing method when AUTH=PLAIN is used. I always (say 10 years), partitioned my hard drive to 4-5 segments to keep the operating system and Windows on one drive, my Data, photos etc on other, and all other programs again on another. I also had a virtual drive for keeping initially the original programs downloaded before I saved it to a CD. Further I had another drive for the swap file. I may want to add Linux to another drive to fool around with it. Now with the Win2K the dealer suggested not to partition, but did not explain why. I looked around and found basically 2 partition programs the Partition Magic I used in the past, and another from Paragon: Partition Manager. Neither is a shareware (only fully crippled demo-s are available for download), the latter is somewhat cheaper than the former. GnuPG Signature Verification in TB! ?
Using TB! 1.62r, Windows 2000 Pro SP2, GnuPG 1.2.2 (for Windows) I have a messagage with a GnuPG signature. The message has the following general format: BEGIN PPG SIGNED MESSAGE message block, NOT encrypted BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE Signature block END PGP SIGNATURE I have the author's public key in my keyring. With the message in preview, I go to the Tools/OpenPGP/Check OpenPGP Signature menu, and TB shows me a message with Good signature from... pretty as you please. Great, this works. What I'd like to know is, can TB! give me a similar answer if the message is both encrypted and signed, i.e. when the format is: BEGIN PPG MESSAGE ASCII-Armored (or not) encrypted message END PGP SIGNATURE The reason I ask is: I am evaluating TB! and comparing it to my existing MUA, Eudora Pro. The GnuPG plugin in Eudora lets me verify the signature on this second type of message before decrypting it. It displays Good signature from... without decrypting it. I realize this would require me to enter my passphrase twice (once for the verification, and again for the decryption) and I understand it is not possible to make this kind of verification without the GPG decrypting anyway (at least internally, without necessarily displaying the decrypted message yet). At any rate, I've been told that TB! should be able to do this. If not, I can come up with my own solutions, but I would love to know if anyone here has been able to verify signatures on THIS kind of message, within the TB! GUI, before instructing TB! to go ahead and decrypt. Many thanks and best regards Current version is 1.62r | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re[2]: Partition Magic (was: transplanting BAT)
Hello Peter, I'm not an expert but have had some experience with Partition Magic (older version) and it really isn't worth it. Like you I liked to partition my physical drives and for good reasons (keep swap file all by itself, keep O/S, programs and data separate, etc). One possible reason the dealer recommends against partitioning is, that in the days of FAT16 partitions, partinioning was popular to minimize the ungodly amount of slack that FAT16 partitions generated. With NTFS, you have some overhead but no slack or very little to speak of. The dealer may feel there is no longer any advantage to partitioning (hey may not be aware that NTFS had been available before Win2000). Give some thought to investing in a second physical drive, doesn't have to be just as large as your current one, and investing in Norton Ghost. For one thing, you'll have the fastest and most reliable backups of your current partitions (Norton Ghost takes a little bit of learning to use it right, but it works great). At the very least you should be able to restore your partitions very quickly if/when you mess something up and it frees you to experiment a little more. hth On Saturday, July 26, 2003, 9:06:40 AM, you wrote: PK Now with the Win2K the dealer suggested not to partition, but did not PK explain why. Re: Can I copy views?
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Good [morning|afternoon|day|evening|night] Steve, SMS I have my TBUDL folder customized exactly the way I want it SMS meaning the order of columns, column width, etc... Can I somehow SMS copy this view to my other mailing list folders? You can set a folder to use account's default column settings. If you change column layout/sorting of any folder with such setting, default column settings will change accordingly... It is also planned to make it possible to define various views (based on combination of the settings from the View menu) and switch between them quickly... - -- All the Best! I guess you're right with this assumption. At least the German help file Dieter Hummel maintained I never heard any negative comments about. IMAP?
Hello, sorry if this has been asked before: I discovered that my mail provider GMX provides IMAP4 access too. I have configured a new account with setting imap.gmx.de for incoming mail. But ... where's the difference to pop3? The Bat still downloads all my mail, and with the mail dispatcher I still only see my inbox and no other folder. For comparison I also set up my IMAP account with OE6, and it let me download a list of folders, all of whom I can now access without downloading my mails. I guess the Bat still does not fully support the IMAP protocol. Or did I miss something important? The help file is no big help in this. Coloring in the message list
I would like to know if it is possible to color the message title in the message-list pane, conditionally on the presence of a string in the body of the message. My objective: Color the title (in the message-list pane) of any encrypted message. I can enter something like --BEGIN PGP MESSAGE-- as the string to look for, but the only place in TB! where I can specify an action on such a condition is in the Sorting office when defining a new filter. I don't want to filter or move the message anywhere, I just want the title to be a different color, and the Color Groups option don't depend on the contents of a particular field. Any ideas? Many thanks. Current version is 1.62r | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
