I read the beta list and was well aware that by using the 1.63 betas that some of the file formats changed... which I thought would be ok as eventually 1.63 would become a non beta. Except its not, its become beta of version 2. Which AFAIK I'll have to pay for (waiting for the upgrade policy). Message hidden but HTML shows
I received a strange message yesterday which just showed an HTML page from our website, but shows as an HTML display with the IE icon in the righthand column. When I hit F9 and saw the raw code, there was a message there (from someone I've had correspondence with pointing out that something I'd said was in the website was not there!) If I right click and click on RFC-822 headers I then see the headers and message, and if I then click on that menu item again, the headers disappear but the message does continue to show as it should do. Either way, if I hit reply, it shows up as quoted text in the reply. How can I be sure that when I receive an html attachment to an email that I can see the message it is attached to? I don't really want to show headers and then hide headers on every message that seems to be just html. The sending mailer is Outlook. Hello and a couple questions (dispatcher this list)
Hi all! Just got around to joining the list. I've been using TB for a few days now and feel pretty comfortable with it. However there are some areas MIA in the help file and have been unable to find relevant information in the FAQs and so forth. I am wanting to choose my own startup defaults for the dispatcher read|recieve|delete|open flags. Is there any way to do that? Secondly, is it possible to associate a folder to a recipient email address? It would be useful for lists and other sorted email folders. EG: ctl-N when TBUDL folder is selected would default to addressing the message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] without having to add to, select from the address book. Check out Folder / Properties / Template. You can add [EMAIL PROTECTED] to that template and it will do exactly what you require. I love folder templates. Every time you are in the TBUDL folder and create a message, it will be sent to TBUDL. Sometimes you are unaware of which folder you are in, so the message that you wanted to send your your brother or your lover will reach the list. You say it won't happen to you, but believe me, we have had a lot of fun with this. Unfortunately, people have now wisened up and don't use folder templates any more. AB templates are much safer. I create a new message, type TBU in the TO field, and the address will be autocompleted to TBUDL. That's why I have not (yet?) sent any private communication to this list. ;-) -- Cheers, Thomas. GW And now I admit to not looking at what is in front of me. There's the GW two tabs at the bottom, it was showing on 2, and the message was on GW 1. TB can display the non-html part as preference, that's something you can configure via the menu: Options - Preferences - 'General' tab - Uncheck 'Display html part of messages automatically' When done so, you can still view the html part by clicking the the html-tab. It's also possible to view the html part with your browser, so you can view pictures that weren't attached to the message, you do this by opening the html attachment that goes with the message. BTW You started your original question as an answer to another thread. That's not the best thing to do for the following reason. The Bat is able to thread messages properly, in order to see what I mean, just select the folder where you're storing the messages from this list. Go to the menu: view - view threads by - references. Now you'll see that all messages are lined up after the message to which they're first, second (or whatever) level replies to. You started what's essentially a new thread by replying to another message. That means it shows up as listed in another thread. Since people sometimes skip messages in threads they don't consider interesting (for lack of time). They might skip your message too, since they're not aware of the newly started thread. So next time you'd do yourself a favor by sending a new message in stead of a reply, because you're reaching a larger audience and one of those might have the answer you've been waiting for. This is not not meant to criticize you, but only to help you appreciate the options TB offers and to be able to get more effect out of your efforts. -- Groetjes, Roelof Current version is 1.62r | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

This Hi, the ability to 'manually install' TB is something I was drawn to. I have a common partition that I have TB reside on and 3 different versions of windows swap in/out of C: all sharing the common TB install. Seems to work without a hitch although there was a slight amount of registry editing needed. Mind you I did install it once and pluck out the RIT registry chain before I removed that partition and re-imaged it. However I don't think I really had to since TB simply created the missing reg entries (defaults of course) in the other OS when I ran the client. Seems much of the configuration information resides in the TB home directory so reconfiguring was quite minimal to have each OS-TB combination work the same. With regard to the backup feature, it has worked perfectly for me during the re-partitioning, OS swapping and so forth that I was doing seeing how TB will work not really being installed on any of the 3 windows partitions that I can boot. Also, unlike some programs you need not worry if your account(s) don't show up as expected. Create new account - pointing to the directory where the files are.. works great. I SO THRILLED about how everything is so un-bound from windows and all the nasty underpinnings that make migration from-to another computer, backups, restore, etc so painless with TB. Craig, my two cents are to go with your gut feeling and use the (backup) TBK file. Works well. And as Allie said, manually moving it is no hassle. tbudl, After I've read a set of messages, I'd like to be able to filter them to their own folders for posterity. All the messages have their own Kludges tag, thanks to POPFile, that I can filter on. I'd like it to work this way: X-Text-Classification: mvst move to folderSwim Team X-Text-Classification: tennismove to folderTennis etc. I'm certain TB!'s filtering can do this and have played around some with varying results. One of which was to send my entire Inbox folder into never-never land - still don't know where those e-mail went! :) I would typically want to manually run these filters rather than do so automatically. Re: S/MIME vs PGP
Pixie, [P] wrote: P I'd like to stick with the internal implementations of either unless P there is some flaw with that thinking.. From the S/MIME perspective, there seems to be a problem with full cross compatibility with the MS CryptoAPI system and the internal one. Signatures generated using one system, verify as bad when checking the signature using the other. I personally use PGP and prefer it since I don't have the above compatibility issue to worry about. I generate my own keys and don't need the services of a certificate authority. Using the internal PGP implementation would amount to using a v2 of PGP. As a result, you'll not be able to import and handle DH/DSS key types. Nowadays, most PGP users use that type of PGP key. So unless you and those you use PGP with are using only RSA type keys then, I'd advise not to use the internal version. I suggest using GnuPG or PGPv6.5.8ckt. Hi Dave, On Monday, August 25, 2003 at 2:19 PM, Dave wrote: Is it OK to assign more than one filter to the same hot key? There's the catch. To my knowledge, you can only have one filter per hot key. I hope someone tells me I am wrong. What I have done in the past to get around this is to: Assign a hot-key to the Re-filter messages option in the Folder menu. When that pops up, you can select the filters you want to run by group. Select Read and manual only and it should work. The only caveat is that you don't have any other Read filters that do things you might not want. For example, I have a Read filter that saves the highlighted message as text. It's a manual only filter and I wouldn't want that to run and so this solution wouldn't work for me on one particular account. It would be great as a work-around if there was some way to double-up on filters - for example, move a set of messages to one folder and, as they enter that folder, have a set of filters that act on the messages and filter them further. I don't know if that is possible or not. I've experimented some but have never been able to get it to work. It seems that Jamie Dainton said ... J Where can I sign up for this beta? Or is it too late. I don't want to J wait until Sep 1, I want to see it now. Oh well, looks like part of my J student loan is going to RitLabs. I was going to wait, too, but I had the misfortune to see the URL for the beta today (ftp://ftp.ritlabs.com/pub/the_bat/beta/) and went there. password beta?
After installing the latest beta 2.04 I was asked to fill in my registration key and checksum. When I did I got a message saying that these did not match my password. Any suggestions as to which setting is responsible for that? I would think Delete messages after xx days in the folder properties is responsible for this. Nope. The box is not ticked. I've looked but can't find anything except the Display item in the View menu. This setting is not sticky. If you close TB and reopen it, the Display setting will have been forgotten. In any case, when you are in the main menu and have the message list in focus, hitting esc will cause all messages to be displayed. Nope. ESC makes no difference... Re: Message Count
Hello Thomas, I have a total count per account. But you are right, there is no grand total count which would include the common folders. Create a dummy account and move your common folders to it. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Re: It appears I have screwed myself by registering v 1.62r early
Hi Craig, Tuesday, August 26, 2003, 12:41:30 AM, you wrote: CW I just registered The Bat! yesterday after only trying The CW Bat! for 2 days of the 30 day evaluation. I registered before CW evaluation was up to show support for your great product. Now CW I find out a new version will be available in 6 days and I CW will be charged 50% of purchase price. CW If I had waited until full evaluation had run out, then I would CW only have had to pay full price of new version and nothing for CW old. Thus, by showing support for The Bat! it appears I have screwed CW myself. I am in the same boat as you, Craig, installed the software Saturday registered Monday. Monday afternoon I read that that version 2 is due out September 1st. Re[3]: Range of messages visible in Message List
Replying to myself :-): This is now cured by changing the message list view date option from received to created. When restoring from a backup recently, it reverted back to received without me noticing. As all the messages had been imported from another email app on changing to TB, older messages all had 1/5/2003, the date of the changeover, as the received date. Still, it raises the question why not all messages with that date were displayed... Regards, Günter mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Using The Bat! Re: S/MIME vs PGP
Joseph N., [JN] wrote: JN It surprises me a bit that you are using PGP, because I see no type JN of PGP signature or hash indication in your message, yet TB! shows a JN signature icon in the upper right corner of the preview pane or JN message window. And the icon is operable; when I click it, I get a JN verification of your signature. *Where* is the OpenPGP signature JN that TB! is verifying?? That's a PGP/MIME signature. I decided to use them on this list even though this signature type isn't supported by the current full release version. Why? This signature type makes the message body text cleaner since there's no signature text present to clutter the message. It's all hidden in the headers. I also know how it's been trying to justify to members why the cluttering is warranted in the case of my signing messages to this list. PGP/MIME is therefore a godsend. Between Marck, Leif, myself and the members who use PGP/MIME supported versions of TB!, i.e., beta versions g, we can ensure that my messages are really from me. :) -- -= allie_M =- | List Moderator PGPKeys: http://www.ac-martin.com/pgpkeys.html _ pgp0.pgp Description: PGP signature Current version is 1.62r | Using TBUDL information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
