Never mind. I think I've got it sorted. I just needed to reorder the
priority of the filters, as one of them was to "park" all messages. Once I
made sure all other filters came before the "park" filter, all is well
again. :)

New filters/re-filtering not working

2020-05-11 Thread Melissa Reese
Hello,

I just created a new POP3 account, and created new folders into which I'd
like to filter messages.

After creating a new filter, and I try to "re-filter" the Inbox, nothing is
filtered into the new folder, even though I know there are plenty of
eligible messages.

In all the years I've been using TB (since v1), I've never had this problem.
I'm now using the latest [stable] version.

Any ideas as to what's going on here?

Thanks!

"Contains" vs. "Matches" in Filters

2020-02-05 Thread Susanne
Hi all,

I'm fighting with filters again and am wondering what the difference is between

sender/recipient contains any of and matches any of

Having trouble setting up a filter where I want messages from a list of certain
senders to go to one folder,
unless one certain recipient is included, in which case they are supposed to go
to a different folder.

Can't seem to get this sorted, and wonder if I'm using the wrong terms in the
filter.

So: if sender is either A,B,C,D or E, message goes to folder 1, unless
recipient includes X, in which case messages go to
folder 2.

Re: restoring sorting office filters for one account

2017-11-15 Thread Avram Sacks
This follows my prior post in which I asked how to restore lost filters.

After searching the forums at the Ritlabs website, I discovered that I could
restore the filters by highlighting the account for which I wished to restore
filers, clicking on "account" and then "sorting office/filters." In the window
that opened, I then could click on "file" and "restore filters." That, in
turn, opened up a dialogue box asking if I wanted to restore, I clicked yes and
another folder with "orphan filters" opened up. However, I then had to
manually copy, one by one, each of the dozen filters that I had into the
inbox. If I tried to delete or cut the filter in the orphan filters
directory, an error exception window would pop up and everything would freeze
in the filters window. I then had to close that window and reopen the sorting
filters/office window and do another restore.

This raises several questions:

1. Why did this happen in the first place? It occurred, I am guessing,
following my computer's forced shut down for a windows update. But why?
What can be done to avoid this?

2. I didn't know that there were additional forums in addition to the two list
serv e-mail groups for The Bat: this one and the beta forum . Does the
online forum also have an e-mail list?

3. The messages in the online forums do not seem to be organized by date.
Why not?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

restoring sorting office filters for one account

2017-11-15 Thread Avram Sacks
Hi, Everyone,

I have 20 mail accounts and most of them have filters. The filters for one of
these accounts, which has one of the largest set of filters - 20 of them - have
all disappeared. This happened overnight, when my laptop was taken over by an
unannounced Windows updates (grrr). (As a separate issue, I had a
dozen e-mail messages - at least - all open, and I now have to try and remember
all that I was working on at the time. It would be nice if The Bat would
automatically restore all open messages when there is an unexpected shutdown,
in much the same way that Word or Excel will restore any open file.)

I don't need to restore anything else other than the filters for this one
account, and, I have downloaded and sent a number of messages from multiple
accounts since the filters went missing. So, is it possible to restore the
missing filters for this one account without having to recreate all of them or
restoring my entire database?

Thanks.

Thank you!
This was very helpful, especially the hint about the gmail settings
for labels!

I also noticed that all the folders I created in TB are automatically
showing up in Gmail.

I'm still confused by the numbers of mails reported by TB.
For example, the Total has varied betwenn about 2000 to over 6000.
If I add up the Total from all the folders in TB, the number is much
lower.

And just to make sure I understand Imap with TB correctly: the message
are actually downloaded to my computer, correct?

I have subscribed to all folders except All Mail. I'm not a massive
Gmail user and this was done many moons ago so I can't remember how
this came about.

I believe that Gmail's IMAP implementation is not like everyone else's
in that Gmail stores all mail in a single folder and use Labels to
separate it out. It then presents these separate labels as separate
IMAP folders. Multiple messages can have multiple Labels and then
appear in multiple IMAP folders.

[Later] I have just discovered for myself that in Gmail web browser
you can click on Setting/Labels and manage which labels Gmail will
present to IMAP clients using the 'Show In IMAP' checkbox.

TB! as a mail client simply shows what it sees.

I hope that helps.

I'm having a hard time understanding IMAP with TB.

Can someone please explain in simple terms which folders I should
subscribe to.

All Mail was definitely a mistake, as the messages are duplicated in
different folders.
And "inbox" is not a choice.

My folder tree in TB is a huge mess and filtering doesn't seem to work

Mail filters: are conditional actions possible?

2016-01-09 Thread Geoff Lane
Hi All,

I tend to provide unique email addresses to each company with whom I
deal, and so spam allegedly from a particular company is usually sent
to an address not associated with that company. I should be able to
use this to split spam from genuine messages on a 'per company' basis,
move spam to my 'spam' folder and move genuine messages to
company-specific folder.

Here's a pseudocode example:

{the address I use for bloggco is co-blog...@mydomain.com}
if (sender contains bloggco.com)
then
   if (recipient is co-blog...@mydomain.com)
   then
  (move to bloggco folder)
   else
  (move to spam folder)
   endif
endif

I could set up two filters, but I'd rather use just one if possible.

Is this possible?

to third-party vendors with whom I do business, some of the filters no longer
seem to be working, even though the text for which the filters searches has not
changed.

Here is an example:

I have done business with Hampton Hotels and now get their promotional e-mail.
The from field for each message from this vendor is: Hampton Hotels
hamp...@h1.hilton.com.

I have a filter that searches sender for hamp...@h1.hilton.com It used to
work, but not any more.

I tried to add a filter that searched the header field from for Hampton
Hotels hamp...@h1.hilton.comBut that didn't help.

I compared the RFC-822 headers from a message for which the filter worked with
the RFC-822 headers from a message that did not get filtered and saw no
difference between the two for the fields in question. I have a similar
problem with about seven other filters. Any idea as to why I am having this
problem? Other filters for this same account seem to be working fine.

Problem with (all) Filters not working

2014-08-15 Thread Lists
I use a few imap email accounts. They are 1and1 fwiw ..
I use one of two computers, individually, in a week.

Of all the accounts, One, and one only, refuses to process all the
email. It does randomly filter several emails though. I mean, one day I
might get 200 List emails of which 30 are filtered. Another time I
might get 90 filtered.

I can see no pattern; no exclusion filter, and this happens on both
omputers. If I look in the 1and1 web-interface, I do not see anythng I
could have done to block filters as all the incoming traffic at 1and1 is
passed to The Bat1 ..

To reiterate, the other 1and1 imap accounts, ON TB!, successfully filter
every single Inbox entry to sugsequent 'Common' Folders.

what do I look at to find the problem?

If you have separate filters for each account, I can't suggest
anything.

If, like me, you avoid duplication by using Common Filters, make sure
the account in question is among those selected on the share with
tab for each filter you want to automatically work with that account.

That's possible.
When the setup of your new config is the same as your old config
(account names and folder names) and you don't have any other filters

Close TB and copy the account.srb files fro your old system to your

Setting SPAM filter to run after other filters

2009-07-26 Thread Carren Stuart

Hi

I'm using the built in BayesIT spam filter which works pretty well, but is
there some way of setting it to filter incoming mail AFTER my other filters
have run? In spite of me attempting to train it to recognise TBDUL mail as not
junk - much of my list mail is still ending up in the junk folder. If I run a
re-filter on the folder my custom filters happily put the mail back where it
should be, but it's a major pain to have to do it this way.

I'm probably missing something really obvious but whatever it is I'm just not
getting it.

I think most of us gave up using BayesIt quite a long time ago and switched
to AntispamSniper for the Bat!.You can get the download at

No there isn't. plug-in filters are always executed before the
sorting office.

The only way to get rid of your false positives is by training
your spam filter.

Using folder properties in filters and templates

2009-07-05 Thread Alexander E. Gutman
Hello, friends.

I have got lots of folders and reorganize them often.

Whenever a new penpal (P) occurs, I usually create
a folder (PF) for storing the related communication.
Since I want the incoming/outgoing messages be stored
in PF automatically, I usually create the corresponding
pair of filters which move incoming/outgoing messages
to PF according to Sender/Recipient.

What I am dreaming of is automating the filtering
and making it as easy as entering P's address (or two)
somewhere in PF's properties (e.g., in PF's memo).

If folder memos were searchable via macros, I could
create a single pair of filters with condition like
Some folder's memo contains 'addr%Sender/%Recipient/addr'
and action like Move to the folder
%FirstFolderWhoseMemoContains='addr%Sender/%Recipient/addr'
or something similar.

I do understand that the above is realizable via AB
with some clever macros/regexps but I cannot use fixed
folder paths in AB, since my folders are permanently
reorganized.

In addition, I would like to use PF's properties
(rather than AB) for specifying additional info on P
(such as greetings, etc.) for using in message templates,
but I am not aware of macros which can help me.
Currently I enter P's info in PF's templates,
but this leads to unpleasant duplicating the info
needed for New Message and Reply templates.
Again, I could store the corresponding info in PF's memo,
but it is useless without a %FolderMemo macro.

Any ideas?

You can copy one filter by having focus on the left pane of the
sorting offeice and pressing Ctrl-C, next you go to the outgoing
filters and press Ctrl-V, now you can edit the filter.
That's what I do when I create an incoming filter and a similar
outgoing filter.

When you want to copy all filters from one account to another account
that doesn't have any filters yet, then you can copy the account.srn
file from the account directory for account A to that of account B. Do
this preferrably while TB is shut down.
However as this overwrites all existing filters in account B, this
isn't very suitable when it has got filters. In that case you should
use the first method or a variety.

When all of your accounts use the same or similar filters, you might
consider using common filters.

AFAIK That has never been possible.

In case the receiving account hasn't got any filters yet, you could
try to copy all filters of the source account via this procedure.
Close TB
Copy the file account.srb from the accountdir of the source account to
that of the target account (the file is called account.erb when you're

Start TB

Hello Gary,

In the Sorting Office context a tree is a filter and any sub-filters
under it. For example:

Filter A
   Sub-filter 1
   Sub-filter 2

If you select Filter A and do a 'Copy tree', the filter plus the two
sub-filters will be copied. And if then you do a paste (e.g. in another
account) the whole 'tree', and with the same structure, will be pasted.

Hello MFPA,

On Wed, 10 Sep 2008 23:30:10 +0100 your time, you said:

[...snip...]

You could test by maybe adding a check to see if the file exists and
display a message if it doesn't.

Yes, I have the folder open when I collect my mail, and I see the wavs
appear in the folder.

I take it the WAV file exists when you look in the folder afterwards?
Does the script work if you plant a WAV of the correct name in the
 folder beforehand?

Yup! Run manually works a treat. Finds any unconverted wavs and processes
them. I called it from another script and it works as well. And I also ran
in via Windows Run and no problem.

I also compiled the script and programs it uses into a single exe and used
that instead, thinking that TB! might have something against running
scripts, but no go.

Have you tried putting the three actions into three separate filters?
(make sure first two are set to continue processing with other
 filters)

Yes, I have also tried that. And I have tried a Hotkey only filter for the
conversion part, but the wavs aren't processed...well know why they aren't
but don't know how to solve the problem.

When I run my converter, it creates a couple of temp files and folders in
the system temp folder. When run manually I can see these being created and
removed as the program executes and ends. I also tried this with TB!
executing the .exe and TB! is executing it because the temp files and
folders are appearing and disappearing. However, the exe isn't running in
the voicemail folder, and I know that for certain because the exe unpacks 4
files into the folder it is run in, runs the script then clears up
afterwards. You can see these files appear when run manually, but they do
not appear in my voicemail folder.

So, TB! is executing the exe, but it is being run somewhere else, not in the
same folder as it is executed from. And I have no idea why that is, or how
to resolve it.

I do know it isn't running in the TB! install folder or in my message base
folder because I checked.

Anyway, I'm stumped.

I suspect that you might need to map \\[obfuscated] to a network drive
and change to that early in your script. Assuming that you don't use
Z: for anything (if you do, use an alternative drive letter) you can
do this with:

  net use Z: \\[obfuscated]
  Z:
  cd \Voicemail

Then clean up at the end with:

  C:
  net use Z: /delete

Alternatively, you can permanently map the drive so that you don't
need to create and destroy the mapping each time you run the filter.

Hello Geoff, and Thomas,

Thanks both for your replies.

Spent far too long poncing about with this task now so I'll just set it as a
scheduled Windows task to check the folder daily and convert files, or run
it manually with a WinHotKey if I need to do it inbetween. I'll go back to
it some time when I do actually have the time to faff about with it.

Your input appreciated though. Not beaten, just putting it on the back

To check where it actually is run, you'd just have to add something
like:

cd
pause

to the top of your script.

To get it to work in the right directory, you'd just have it move
there. Since your My Voicemail-dir does not change (I guess) you'd
just need to add something like this to the very top of the script:

cd D:\My Voicemail\Incoming

Which would make it look like this:

/* BEGIN @echo off

cd D:\My Voicemail\Incoming
echo Name: %~n1
FOR %%a in (*.wav) DO sox.exe %%a %%~na.aiff
[..]
*/

I hope that helps.

I would hope one after another. Otherwise you could not forward and
delete a message (or assign to a colour group and move to a folder,
for example).

The script is very basic, but of course requires the extracted
attachment (wav) to be exist, so it must be in the folder before it

You could test by maybe adding a check to see if the file exists and
display a message if it doesn't.

I take it the WAV file exists when you look in the folder afterwards?
Does the script work if you plant a WAV of the correct name in the

Do you think the filter actions are running simultaneously? Is there some
way to pause the execute filter until the attachment is extracted?

Have you tried putting the three actions into three separate filters?

Thanks again Roelof,

That's one of the first things I checked but my filters still don't
work. AFAICT, these two are the only one that do not - but then they
are the only filters I have that don't filter on either the sender or
subject line.

I'm going to change my mail delivery route soon to bypass the server
that added the certain header, so I've now deleted that filter
leaving only the one that should filter on date. Unfortunately, as you
say, TB seems to assess the age of a message from the date received
not the date apparently created, and I need to filter on the latter.
Spammers send a lot of messages with the creation date in the past. I
suspect they do this to get past spam reporting tools that won't
report messages more than a few days old.

Whatever, I sort messages by date created, not date received. So these
old messages get shoved to down the list and I need to use
Ctrl+Alt+Right to get to the next to delete it. Unfortunately, I've
just changed laptop and the video driver intercepts Ctrl+Alt+Right
and interprets this as an instruction to change the orientation of the
screen image so that it's on its side! I know there are work-arounds,
but this is infuriating and I can't find a way to turn it off in the
video driver :(

Sorting Office filters - again

2008-08-22 Thread Geoff Lane
Using The Bat! v1.62r on Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3

Sorry for this, but yet another issue with SO filters. I'm trying to
dump incoming messages that are apparently older than 30 days to my
spam bin. The filter is the topmost in the list. In the Advanced tab,
I selected Message is older than and set the days to 30 but the
filter didn't work. So I tried setting the rule for this filter that
Sender included '@', but it still didn't work so I tried changing this
to Sender not containing 'zzz' (both rules were in addition to the
Advanced setting). It still doesn't work and TB still isn't directing
to my spam bin messages apparently created as far back as 1980.

A filter that I tried to set up to dump messages that contained a
certain header in the Kludges also didn't work, so is there an issue
with TB v1 and XP, am I missing something about how filters are
supposed to work, something else? (BTW, including the two that don't
work I have 96 SO filters)

I don't know whether you're missing something about how filters are
working nor do I know about any issues between TB v1 and Windows XP.
However, what I do know is that when you're using 92 filters, it's
easy to have some other filter interfering with the one that you're

So whenever a filter doesn't deliver, the first thing I do is moving

Why did you enable 'continue processing'? That is not necessary

M what does continue processing with other filters really do? as you
M said, i have disabled this function from the respective filter.

'Continue processing' lets messages that trigger a filter be
processed by other filters on the same level. Let's explain it with an
example:

FilterA
FilterB
  SubfilterJ
FilterC
  SubfilterK
  SubfilterL
  SubfilterM
FilterD
FilterE
  SubfilterN
FilterF
FilterG
FilterH
FilterI

In this filter tree FilterF and SufilterL have 'continue processing..'
enabled.
A message triggers A, all processing stops at A.
A message triggers B, it will be processed by B's subfilters and stops
afterwards, so it will be matched against J and stop then, whether it
triggers J or not.
A message triggers C and afterwards triggers K, it stops there.
A message triggers C and afterwards doesn't trigger K, but triggers L,
it will continue to M and stop there, whether it triggers M or not.
A message triggers F, it will be matched against GHI, until there is a
match or it has reached the last filter (I)

M i just keep the filters the way i want to.

The way you have set it up, the common filter is shared by both
accounts, if I understand you correctly. The incoming messages is
caught by filter X, but continues to filter Y, which moves the message
to account Z. This is expected behaviour. The great advantages of
common filters is that it doesn't matter through which account the
email comes in, it will always be moved to the same folder, regardless
of the account it is under.

I think you need to set up two identical but seperate account filters.

Two suggestions:

1. Make Z a filter instead of a sub-filter. If you want Z to only
trigger if X or Y is true, you could set a user parameter as an
action of both X and Y and make Z filter on that user parameter as
well as the Z header/text.

or 2. Put a subfilter Z under Y as well, the same as the one under X.

2. is simpler to set up but 1. means if you want to change the actions
of the Z filter in the future you only need to change one filter.

Power Outage Destroyed Operation of Common Filters

2008-07-01 Thread Bill McCarthy
Hello TB User Discussion List,

Sunday, I added several new sorting office incoming filters to my
usual account. I failed to shut down TB after doing this and just
left my computer in Stand By mode over night.

We had a power outage Monday while my computer was on (it lasted
longer than the battery). When I restarted, every seemed fine until I
tried a Read messages filter from the Common Filters account.
Ctrl-Shift-X, which normally deletes a message both locally and on the
server, didn't work.

When I checked my sorting office, I noticed that the new (added
Sunday) incoming filters filters were missing! I then checked the
Common Filters - there were my new filters from my account. I moved
them, one at a time, from the Common Filters to my account. I had to
close and open TB each time or I received an unrecoverable error
message and had to shut down TB with Task Manager.

Now my Common Filters have this odd structure. I've rebooted WinXP to
no avail.

Incoming mail
Outgoing mail
Moving In Hooks
Selective Download
Read messages
Replied messages
Outgoing mail
Read messages
Replied messages
Selective Download

Note that all the high level filters (except Incoming mail) are
repeated in Incoming mail along with Moving In Hooks and there are
not in there normal sorted order.

I can add, say, a Read messages filter to Common Filters - but it
doesn't work.

How can I fix my Common Filters so they work again?

Thanks for listening.

Re: Filters not working - was: Lost folders

But now none of the email filters I had for the lost folder are
working. The problem is that when the folder was lost, it was moved to

M What happens if you move the folder (in TB!) to the location the
M filters point to and then move it back? Don't know if you need to
M close/restart TB! before moving back.

My thanks to you and Tim for the suggestion. Moving the folder worked
and it appears everything is back to normal now.

Filters not working - was: Lost folders

2008-06-14 Thread Jack
I restored TB's directory to a different location from a daily disk
backup I do and then copied over the missing folder and its contents.
Still didn't show up. It appears there is a main index file that has
 become corrupted.

The above problem I had where my directory structure became corrupted has
been resolved. The main fix, for any who might have this problem, was
to delete the ACCOUNT.FLB file for the main folder.

But now none of the email filters I had for the lost folder are
working. The problem is that when the folder was lost, it was moved to
a new location and the filters were all changed, automatically, to
follow it. Now that the folder is back where it belongs, the filters
are all pointing to the old location. Is there a way to mass edit
these filters to point them to a new location?

Hmmm, how about moving all the messages from the old location to the
new one. Then delete the old folder. THEN move/rename the new folder
to the location/name of the old folder...

Re: Can't Edit Some Filters

2008-04-28 Thread Marten Gallagher
 Hello TB User Discussion List,

Some of my filters, although they stilll work, cannot be
 edited.

Hmmm - interesting - I have been having filter trouble since latest TB version
but have been unable to pin down the symptoms properly - new filters in folders
outside accounts seem to be not working.

I wonder ifnthere is something about filters that has been upset in latest
version?

I do notice in this filkter you have pasted that thre are forwrd slashes where
I woul expect backslashes to esape characters

eg: bill/0D/0Amccarthy

Could that be something to investifate?
