Ok, running the database upgrade script again probably fixed it ... although it
complained
"Duplicate column name 'c_hascertificate'" so it already has been there? Hmm.

Subject: strange problem with just one user's personal address book

Hi, I'm running an old 2.4 SOGo server and have a strange problem:
Several users use e-mail, calendar and contacts. They mostly use Thunderbird on
the PC
with IMAP/CalDAV/CardDAV, some also use the browser interface and most have a
smartphone connected to the same data via ActiveSync. All those work fine but
for one
user the contacts "do not work":

The user has 76 contacts, created from Thunderbird, originally in Thunderbirds
local
address book. I have helped the user and exported the contacts, connected the
SOGo personal address book into his Thunderbird via the CardDAV URL and imported
the contacts into this. No error or warnings. The contacts are visible in his
Thunderbird
in the CardDAV folder and clicking "Synchronize" does not yield any error. But
when the
user logs in to the SOGo web UI, the personal address book there is just empty.
I tried importing the same contacts vCard file in the web UI as well and again
had no
error or warning (e.g. "76 contacts imported") but they do not show up.
On the connected smartphone (Android running "BlueMail") the contacts also do
not
show up (but e-mail and calendar do).
In the user's web UI I then created a "new address book" in addition to the
standard
personal address book. Imported the vCard file into this and it works fine, all
contacts
are shown in this new address book.
But, obviously, this does not really work, I need to make the standard "personal
address book" work.

The only error I see in sogo.log (when trying to copy a single contact from the
"new
address book" to the non-working "personal address book") is:

May 06 10:02:06 sogod [22977]: <0x0x55fffdfb8638[GCSFolder]> ERROR(-[GCSFolder

Does anyone have an idea what might be the problem? I have not seen such a
problem
before ...

[SOGo] Migration to Mailcow, any experiences/tutorials/hints?

2022-02-10 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel - ARS
Hello,

I'm currently running an old server on CentOS 6 with postfix/dovecot and SOGo
2.4 and MySQL DB as authentication source for the users.
I need to do a complete overhaul to current software levels, obviously. After
thinking over this for a while and looking around I found that it seems
to make the most sense for me to move to a new Ubuntu VM and run a local
Mailcow dockerized deployment.
That seems to offer about the same moving parts (postfix, dovecot, SOGo,
MariaDB), in a more integrated and easily upgradable way.
Did anyone do such a migration from a conventional manual setup into a Mailcow
setup, e.g. including user/data migration
and could share the experience, hints, warnings etc.? Thanks.
In particular, I'd like to know how to

  *   move the user name/password table(s)
  * move the mail data of dovecot
  * move the calendar/contact data of SOGo
I haven't yet seen a tutorial or similar for such a migration.

RE: [SOGo] Help to setup autoconfig and autodiscover

2022-01-10 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel - ARS
Hello Philippe,
what I posted here was just my setup except that I replaced my domain/server
names
with your generic sample name. You will need to debug this now yourself in your
environment.
Perhaps you overlooked something (such as necessary name change).
I had collected all this from various sources on the Internet a couple of years
ago,
there was no single source. Therefore I thought I could post that all together
here.
I can confirm that the setup still works fine for auto configuring Thunderbird
from my server.

most probably based on a MailCow containerized setup, then with a current code

Hello,
this is not yet implemented.
There are some code-lines (commented) in SOGoMailObject+ActiveSync.m which
gives a rough idea about what it takes to implement the "reply-to":

SOGoMailObject+ActiveSync.m:
  // Reply-To - FIXME

Hello,

I'm still running an old SOGo 2.4.0 server for our family, on top of Dovecot
and Postfix.
We are using EAS to connect a couple of mobile devices to it.

My son an I have now noticed that when we receive e-mail messages that contain
Reply-To fields,
then these are shown and honored in the web client (and of course when using
e.g. Thunderbird to
access the mailbox directly on Dovecot) but not on the mobile clients via EAS.
We are using the "Nine" and "BlueMail" apps on Android. In both the Reply-To
fields do not show up.
Of course when we then reply to such a message, the reply goes to the original
sender and not to the
address in Reply-To.

Is this a known limitation of the SOGo EAS implementation? Is it still present
in SOGo 5.4?

Yes.

Without the SOGo Connector extensions, there's no handling of multiple
identities in Thunderbird associated to a calendar. You can't also
subscribe/unsubscribe calendars directly from Thunderbird by searching what's
shared to you in SOGo. You can't also create/delete CalDAV calendars. Calendar
colors aren't sync'ed, contact categories aren't sync'ed, custom address books
files aren't sync'ed, mail tags aren't sync and CalDAV ACLs aren't handled at
all and few more things.

As you can see, it does quite a lot.

The current 'beta' version of the SOGo Connector is pretty much on par
feature-wise with the latest one for v68 - except regarding the integration
with the SOGo Update Server (because of Mozilla dropped RDF support) and a few
minor things.

Thanks,

RE: [SOGo] logon via both user ID and email address?

2020-12-07 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel
Hmm, you are right. This is actually (also) the authentication source for the
underlying IMAP
server (Dovecot). And Dovecot also only allowes the short ID.

Following this logic, I extended the password query for Dovecot’s database
connection and
I am now able to login to Dovecot using either variant.

But for SOGo itself this apparently needs more changes, as it still does not
work with the e-mail
address.

Hello,

thank you for your effort and the explaination!

I managed to get the Identities working in Thunderbird, but I think Thunderbird
is sadly not an Option for us. But I discovered that em Client does it fully
automatically (so it discovers these aliases on its own!).
The Plugin for Outlook doesn’t work for me, I guess it needs Microsoft Exchange
or Office 365 to work. It’s sad that Outlook cant choose the right address from
its own (it does this only if the address was added through a mailbox, not if
you added it manually).

One remaining Question is the Mobile Client – which one do you use to have this
functionality on mobile devices? I guess outlook wont do it; has anyone tried
nine, for example?

This looks right at the first thought. However, I think a disclaimer has
to be part of the MUA, because if the MTA adds it, it will break any
S/MIME signature.

Where is the automation documented, e.g. what does it exactly?
Looks I did not find this gem yet. But I am really interested.

I am only using SOGo for a very small scale, but so far I had to define both
calendar and contact connection with one CalDAV/CardDAV URL per user for both
cases (SOGo connector vs. Thunderbird internal plus CardBook).
How could I have made this easier ("automatic") with the SOGo connector?

Yes, interesting. Also, that while the Thunderbird calendar
supports CalDAV already out of the box, the address book does
not support CardDAV.

There is another extension, CardBook, that adds CardDAV. I just
tested it and it works fine with SOGo, too.

Given that with the built-in Lightning and with CardBook I can also
work with SOGo's calendar and contacts, I see no advantage in the
SOGo connector. In both cases, I need to manually add the SOGo
calendar and contacts to Thunderbird with the SOGo CalDAV and CardDAV
URLs and account data. Or did I miss something about the SOGo
connector?

I have switched to TBSync and removed the SOGo plugin. The TBSync plugin
uses ActiveSync to synchronize calendar and contacts. Works fine.
Perhaps you may want to give it a try instead of waiting for the SOGo

I don't know if that is really the problem. However, as far as I have gathered,
wildcard certificates are considered harmful, anyway.

In addition, recently at least all relevant browsers (perhaps Outlook, too?)
were changed so that they refuse certificates that do not include a SAN
(subject alternative name) record for the FQDN of the host, even when it is
identical to the subject of the certificate. You may want to check this.
Some RFC seems to dictate this.

I gave it a try and it works. I installed it on an Android 7.1.1 system
and connected it via ActiveSync with my private SOGo server. Basic tests
worked fine. I could send an e-mail message from it and receive the
reply it got. I also entered a new appointment into the calendar, changed
it on my regular ActiveSync client (Blackberry Hub) and saw the change get

And /etc/sysconfig/sogo is empty except for a few comment lines.

I just make the PREFORK setting active (and 16, in my case)?

Re: [SOGo] ANN: SOGo v2.3.19 released!

I just upgraded to this releease von 2.3.18 via the nightly build repository:

Installed Packages
sogo.x86_64
2.3.19.20170111-1.centos6 @SOGo
sogo-activesync.x86_64
2.3.19.20170111-1.centos6 @SOGo
sogo-tool.x86_64
2.3.19.20170111-1.centos6 @SOGo

This is on CentOS 6.8.

Now SOGo does not really work any longer. After login and display of the
first message, any further action (display next message etc.) just hangs.

In /var/log/sogo/sogo.log I see lots of these messages:

Jan 11 20:49:22 sogod [11777]: [ERROR] <0x0x7fceb62504d8[WOWatchDog]> No child
available to handle incoming request!

Occasionally, I see also:

Jan 11 20:53:05 sogod [11777]: [WARN] <0x0x7fceb612dc78[WOWatchDogChild]> pid
11779 has been hanging in the same request for 2 minutes

Does the new release require configuration changes?

At this time I am the ONLY user! There for sure can't be more than
my browser requests. In addition, there are three ActiveSync client
devices.

I am using MySQL as the authentication source and user table for
Dovecot and SOGo. My user table looks like this (names changed):

select * from mail.dovecot_user
+---+--+++++
| uuid | gid | cn | email | home
  | active |
+---+--+++++
| 10003 | 5000 | julius.schulz | julius.sch...@dom.com |

| 10020 | 5000 | agnes.meier| agnes.me...@dom.com|
/var/spool/mail/dom.com/agnes.meier| 1 |
...

I am using "cn" as the column to use for login, so users log in
with "firstname.lastname" only. As you can see, for one mailbox
I have defined a few aliases this way. This is in this case
not for different domains but you should be able to use it
that way as well. But in addition, you would have to configure
Postfix to accept e-mails for the additional domains, too.

I am using ActiveSync on a Blackberry 10 device (with very little data
volume, though) as a secondary account and it works fine. My sons use
ActiveSync on Android devices (CM13, i.e. Android 6.0.1) - no problems
so far. On Android it will depend on which client App you use because
ActiveSync is not part of the OS but implemented in the app. On the
Android devices of my sons I installed Blackberry Hub.

I think there are more important things to implement. Many will run it
with a local MTA anyway. And if not, then the MTA will usually be within
the same local (!) network. If someone is able to sniff there, you have
a dramatic problem anyway. And if someone can sniff the local network,
he can probably much easier directly hack into your server, too.

You quote just another mailing list message and that did not go into
much detail either. No official tuning docs?

You wrote there that one worker process is needed for one ActiveSync user
and that one process need between 18 and 50 MB of memory.

The process per user is OK ... but 18...50 MB per process is a bit vague.
Nevertheless, even with 50 MB, for 100 users that would sum up to only 5 GB
which is reasonable. Adding perhaps another 4 GB for the OS and the the
other base software (apache, dovecot, postfix, etc.) I would be able to
run 100 users with 8..10 GB. This sounds more reasonable than the 25 GB
reported. Can you confirm this?

However, for 1000 users that would be a span of 24 to 56 GB of RAM ...

[My private SOGo VM for my family runs with just 2 GB for everything
including dovecot and postfix, too, including 3 ActiveSync clients ... :-)]

25 GB of RAM for just 50 users? Wow.

I really have to question the amount of memory used by SOGo ActiveSync.
Can someone "official" please again comment on that? Is this really normal?
Are there plans to reduce the memory requirements/usage for ActiveSync?

I compare that to the commercial product we use at work (IBM Traveler)
and they suggest 16 GB of RAM for the Traveler server "only if you have
more than 1000 users" ... for less than that they suggest using 8 GB
of RAM.

I understand the motivation for this change.

I have used SOGo for some time now on a private/personal groupware
server for my family. Even the basic support contract will be
completely out of sense for this purpose.

What does that mean for me? I have to download the source code and
compile myself? Or should use nightly builds? How do I access
these? Are these also in a package repository available to me?
How are these accessed?

This is really something that needs to be optimized. For comparison: an IBM
Traveler server that
can handle that amount of users needs just 8 GB of RAM and runs fine with two
cores
(and does much more other work, too).

In the v2 repository, the sope packages are still the newer ones now. Is that

When I look into the inverse repository with a web browser,

[SOGo] Upgrade from 2.2.17 to 2.3.3a

2015-11-29 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel
Hello,

I am still trying to upgrade. The post install upgrade script fails:

[root@srv sogo-2.3.3a]# sudo -u sogo sh
./sql-update-2.2.17_to_2.3.0-mysql.sh
Couldn't fetch OCSFolderInfoURL value, aborting

What do I need to fix this? I simply do not understand what this error
means.

Also:
[root@srv sogo-2.3.3a]# sudo -u sogo sogo-tool dump-defaults
{
FirstDayOfWeek = 1;
OCSFolderInfoURL =
"mysql://dovecot:xxx@127.0.0.1:3306/mail/sogo_folder_info";
OCSSessionsFolderURL =
"mysql://dovecot:xxx@127.0.0.1:3306/mail/sogo_session_folder";
SOGoACLsSendEMailNotifications = YES;
SOGoAppointmentSendEMailNotifications = YES;
SOGoAuthenticationMethod = SQL;

Am I right with my assumption that this script needs to run under the
sogo user account? This is not written anywhere but I thought it would
be logical ... it does not work as root either.

These parameters are all configured in the .GNUstepDefaults file.
Why is the script not finding them?

I installed such a setup a few months ago (using MySQL for authentication
for both Postfix/Dovecot and SOGo). I used this as a (german) guideline:

It is not perfect but I was able to get my server up and running this way.

Re: [SOGo] Suggestion: Don't use /etc/sysconfig/sogo on CentOS

2015-10-02 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel
On my private CentOS based SOGo server, this file is more or less empty:

# The amount of processes that should be spawned (Default: 3)
# PREFORK=3
# The name of the account under which SOGo will be running (Default: sogo)
# USER=sogo

The two only statements in there are commented out by default
after the installation.

Similarly, the /etc/sogo/sogo.conf is also empty (except for comments).
I did all configuration (as apparently recommended) in the
.GNUstepDefaults in
/var/lib/sogo/GNUstep/Defaults. So why are there such empty config files
at all ...

So if he had 50 ActiveSync users among his 200 users, he would need
50 extra workers in addition to the 20 workers for web/xDAV?
That would sum up to about 28 GB of RAM for just 200 users??

What about the database update script? Is that no longer needed?

I'm not completely sure of the relationship between SOGO and OpenChange,

this is what I believe: SOGO is a groupware server, providing

servers?) accessible by Microsoft Outlook (possibly other MS products?).

My general question is: is the above approximately correct?

Yes, I think so.

My other question is mostly specific to Zentyal (I've also asked the
question
on their forum, but would appreciate thoughts from the SOGO community as
well): do I need to configure or have installed the OpenChange component
in
Zentyal if I don't plan to use Outlook? I would probably use the
Thunderbird
client on Windows machines, and Apple's Mail, Contacts, and Calendar
 applications on Mac machines.

Yes, this is possible, you don't need OpenChange. I also run a SOGo server
without OpenChange (even without an LDAP or Samba server).

That is right, but sogo repo has samba-libs for samba version 4 which
obsoletes CentOS 6 own samba4-libs and this will bring some dependency
problems (sogo repo uses libldb 1.1.17 for samba-libs but sssd needs
samba4-libs and this requires libldb 1.1.13).

I had simmilar problems and added samba-libs to my ignore list in
yum.conf file for the sogo server (where I do not need samba).

My solution was to simply uninstall sssd (and then samba-libs).
If you don't use Samba or LDAP at all, then you don't need sssd either.

[SOGo] SOGo ActiveSync inefficient, large battery drain?

2015-01-13 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel
Hello,

I have found the following strange behaviour:

My personal smartphone is a Blackberry Z10 since about 2 years. It is
driven by a Blackberry Enterprise Server 10 in our company and through
this the Z10 connects via ActiveSync to our company's Domino server
via its Traveler service. This ActiveSync connection and data is stored
in the work area on the Z10 device. Using this setup, the Z10 has an
average battery life of about 2 days (charging over night, then running
one day, one night and another day with then a rest of around 10% in the
battery before the next night's charge).

After I created my personal e-mail/groupware server for the family during
the last months (CentOS, Postfix, Dovecot, SOGo ...), I added another
ActiveSync connection for my private e-mail account to the Z10's personal
area. Setup was easy and it worked OK but after adding this connection
I found that the battery of the Z10 lasts only one day and I need to
charge every night! The Z10's device monitor shows that the PIM
Services
are the (by far) biggest source of battery drain (over 20%).

After a week or so I finally removed that SOGo ActiveSync connection
(but kept the work connection, of course). Battery life is back to two
days and the device monitor shows the PIM Services using only between
5 and 10% of battery power, less than the base System itself.

So why is using the SOGo ActiveSync connection so much more of a battery
drain (e.g. CPU intensive)? Does it perhaps poll (no push)?

None of these is explicitly set - e.g. default values.

Read the documentation, it'll tell you why.

I beg you pardon, but not everyone has your level of insight into the
inner workings of SOGo ... please be a bit more specific.

On page 50 of the SOGo manual those three parameters are listed.
But there is only a brief explanation and there is no recommendation
that the defaults should be changed and if so, which values would

How do you suggest to set these parameters?

My SOGo server works fine, web access works and CalDAV/CardAV from

I have enabled ActiveSync like described in the manual but there is

need to
append something to the name (like /traveler on IBM Domino Traveler

Also, my SOGo installation does NOT use LDAP/Samba but is using a
 MySQL database
for Authentication. Is ActiveSync supported in this environment? What is
to be
used for the domain in the user@domain or domain\user specification
 on an iPhone,
for example? Should it be left empty (no LDAP) or should I enter the
 mail domain?
 (Neither works.)

Regardless what I try on the iPhone, I only get Account cannot be

When I use the Microsoft connectivity test, I get this error:

Plain text emails don't contain any font information at all.
So for those you could come up with something for reading them in a
 specific font.

But for HTML emails this is not possible, as you can not control which
 font the sender is using.
For these to show up in a specific font, you have to change the browsers
font settings (== for all web pages!).

I think I was not clear enough describing what I want.
I do not mean for _displaying_ messages but for _writing_ HTML messages.

That is, I want to set the default body font for the editor control,
when composing a HTML message.

issue with Thunderbird or with the Sogo Connector which sits in between.

I haven't tested it via unsecured HTTP yet, but obviously I would prefer

to use HTTPS if that is an option. Has anyone else had this issue, or
can suggest some things to try?

I guess you are using a fairly recent Thunderbird version or even the
newest? The current versions of Firefox and Thunderbird disable old and
outdated (e.g. insecure) ciphers. Perhaps your server's HTTP daemon
is not offering new (secure) enough ciphers? This could be the case if
you set up this server already long time ago and never cared to update
the cipher settings (perhaps even code updates may be required).

If you want to check your server's HTTP support, use

RE: [SOGo] Recommended setup?

2014-11-22 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel
Hello,

I had asked for a recommended setup several weeks ago.
Probably I was not very clear in stating what my goal is.
I wanted to set up a mail server for personal/private use of my family.
Since several weeks/months ago I was evaluating choices for a complete,
free and powerful solution. I came to SOGo because of support for
calendars, webmail and ActiveSync.

Meanwhile I installed a base mail server on CentOS 6.6 with Postfix and
Dovecot
and a few more tools, integrated/configured SpamAssassin, ClamAV via
MailScanner
and installed/configured Postgrey.

I would now like to finally add SOGo to this server. My question is:

So far I have no Samba and no OpenLDAP on this server and I am using only
a few
local Unix user accounts - because I don't need more.

Can I install SOGo now on my server as described above, without
Samba/LDAP?
I would like to avoid Samba and OpenLDAP because I will never need more
than
a handful (or two) of user accounts on this server, even if I add a few
more
relatives and friends to it.

If you don't want to use LDAP for authentication, you can use SQL.
But right now, you have to use one of the two.

Thanks ... but I don't understand this yet. Sorry for being a complete
newbie
and asking so dumb questions:

What do you mean with using SQL for authentication? A SQL database is
something
for storing data and you need to authenticate in order to _access_ a SQL
database ...

I understand that SOGo needs a SQL database for storing calendar entries
and
address book content ...

I have read the SOGo manual but it explains almost nothing. No description
of
the architecture, how all those moving parts fit together ... nothing.

Is there hope for someone like me to find a way to understand how SOGo
works
and how I can use it? I should say that I am (in my job) a IBM Domino
expert
for 20 years and an expert for many other products, too. But I really have
a
problem getting a grip on products like SOGo when there is almost no
documentation
and only a group of some experts (those who wrote it ...) who only speak
in
some chinese dialect :-) about their product. I just don't have the time
to spend many hours analyzing the source code in order to understand how
it works ... I hope you understand what I mean. I am eager to learn
something
new and look beyond what I do in my job but I must be able to understand
a product from an admin's point of view within a (very) few hours.

[SOGo] Recommended setup?

2014-10-07 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel
Hello,

I want to set up a Sogo server for evaluation and/or personal use.
I have followed the mailing list for quite some time and read the
manual and FAQs, too.

What would you recommend as the base OS? I am free in my choice
and could use any of CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu or OpenSuSE. Probably
I would feel most familiar with OpenSuSE but would not expect me
to be helpless :-) with the other Linux variants - except CentOS 7.
But as far as I can see, I should probably stick with CentOS 6.5
in case I would select CentOS, right?

I would prefer graphical or at least menu driven help for setting
up the OS and the base services (SMTP, IMAP, OpenLDAP, Postgres).
OpenSuSE has a good tool (Yast) for that purpose. But the other
OS variants don't have such a powerful tool - or did I miss
something? Do you have arguments against OpenSuSE for Sogo?

For the base components ...
- Cyrus or Dovecot?
- Postfix or Sendmail?
Has one significant advantages over the one?

Actually, it would be great if I could simply use the ready to
use Sogo virtual appliance ... but the one available for download
is SO outdated ...

Thanks for your help!

[SOGo] new installation ... best way?

2013-12-17 Thread Kai-Uwe Rommel
Hello,

I am new on this list ... my greetings to all.

I am evaluating SOGo for a private solution for my own family.
I would run it as a VM on my company's ressources but completely
separated from the company network. I am currently thinking over
if I should start with the ZEG appliance VM or install from scratch.

I am not a Linux expert but have more experience with Windows
servers. However, I can install and configure Linux servers as
far as I need them for my work, such as when I need them as
base for IBM middleware servers and I think I am sufficiently
fit with networking infrastructure (TCP/IP, DNS, SMTP ...).

I already tested a ZEG appliance VM and as far as I can see, the
only real change required to it in order to actually use it would
be the addition of SSL for HTTP and IMAP/SMTP. I think I will
be able to configure this.

But there is also the rather cosmetical issue that I would like to
rename the LDAP server base from example.com to my own name space.
I cannot figure out how to do this ... do you have any advice?

Do you think that this approach is OK? Or should I rather try to
install the complete stack myself on a plain Linux VM?

If so, I would have to choose between Debian and CentOS - which
would you prefer?

The SOGo installation manual does only cover SOGo itself,
not the base products. Is there any commented installation
guideline out there about how to install all this?

Thanks for any insights!
