[vdr] remote.conf question

2012-03-13 Thread Arturo Martinez
I have a remote control that on pressing a single specific key it sends
two keys at once

80010051 00 KEY_3 VRC-1100
8001004c 00 KEY_5 VRC-1100

Can I use this key somehow in vdr´s remote.con (to assign a command in
the even that KEY_3 and KEY_5 are received at once)

[vdr] diseqc.con question

2012-01-14 Thread Arturo Martinez
Hello,

I have added a second dvb-s2 card to my vdr 1.7.21 box (for a total of 2
dvb-s2 cards, and nothing else)

The first card (adapter0) is connected to a motor and diseqc.conf
reflects this:

S19.2E 11700 V 9750 t v W15 [E0 31 6B 13] W25 [E0 31 6B 13] W15 t
S19.2E 9 V 10600 t v W15 [E0 31 6B 13] W25 [E0 31 6B 13] W15 T

S5.0E 9 H 10600 t V W15 [E0 31 6B 05] W25 [E0 31 6B 05] W15 T

Now the second card is connected to a diseqc 1.0 switch with 2 feeds
(S5.0E and S0.8W)

How can I modify diseqc.cond so that vdr is aware that only the second
card can get 0.8W and S5.0E can be accessed by both cards?

[vdr] vdr] playing divx from vdr

2011-12-20 Thread Arturo Martinez
I am using vdr-xine.
xine with xxmc enabled works great:

The idea is to be able to play with a minimum of fuzz .avi files from
within vdr

I believe the externalplayer plugin + mplayer (with xvmc enabled), is
the way to go?

Using vdr 1.7.21 with vdr-xine 0.9.4

The only OSD mode that works is osdOverlay, the rest bring a severely
corrupted OSD. But osdoverlay seems to be very CPU intensive.
Does anybody know of a fix/patch or workaround?

Re: [vdr] xine dropped frames warning

2011-11-24 Thread Arturo Martinez
I am using the right config and the warnings still show.

Lets prove it...

ps -ef |grep xine

 xine --no-gui --no-logo --no-splash -pq -A alsa -f -V xxmc --post vdr
--post vdr_video --post
tvtime:method=LinearBlend,cheap_mode=1,pulldown=0,use_progressive_frame_flag=1
--config=/home/tv/.xine/config vdr://tmp/vdr-xine/stream#demux:mpeg_pes

So that´s my xine running and shows it is using for config
/home/tv/.xine/config

Now I run the grep command on it:

grep ^gui.dropped_frames_warning:0 /home/tv/.xine/config echo
config is good :) || echo config is bad :(

And the result is:

gui.dropped_frames_warning:0
config is good :)

Yet if I open vdr´s OSD and fiddle with it for a minute or so I am
guaranteed to get the dropped frames warning.

cxfe does not have the warning problem but unfortunately it does not
support xxmc acceleration :(

Try changing your xine command line by replacing the '=' following --config

Showing the commandline is not the same as the app parsing the parameter.
Xine may be clever in this respect in which case this will make no difference.

With

I still get a popup if I use the OSD for a minute or so

See screenshot:

So since the line does not truly disable warnings for me, my question

Is there a different line I need to put in the config file or else how

Nobody reading these lines knows what part of xine´s source code do I

Well, it seems I found the problem. The HAUPPAUGE NOVA-S2-HD card
(HVR4000 lite / CX24116 frontend) won't lock onto DVB-S2 channels with
FEC_AUTO or ROLLOFF_AUTO set. So, I modified the plugin to allow
selectable values for FEC and ROLLOFF and now it works fine. I can now
lock and scan DVB-S and DVB-S2 channels (QPSK and 8PSK) directly from
the plugin menu and move the dish to find and store satellites with
diseqc and signal strength meter. Ideal for feedhunting now!

When I get a bit more time I'll tidy up the plugin and release it as
it should now act as a pretty good satellite channel scanner
irrespective of whether you have a rotor within VDR. I haven't tested
the entire satellite transponder scanning functionality yet for
DVB-S/S2, that will be the next task but hopefully it won't need many
changes.

:·)

I would also like some support for rotors in vdr, I can offer Klaus a
free sat dish and an old rotor if that would motivate him...

Klaus, as a minimum in vdr core we need the ability to specify a ´lapse
value´ between a diseq command being sent (for non rotor users this
would be zero, I´d imagine) and vdr tuning to a transponder or trying to
add new channels.
So in short if this value say was set to 30 seconds, then vdr would not
add new channels or try to tune to a transponder. That would allow the
rotor to do its job (with the existing diseqc.conf

[vdr] TS to chinapod

2010-10-14 Thread Arturo Martinez

I have the following bash script:
chinapod.sh

#!/bin/sh

/usr/bin/ffmpeg -i $1 -s 320x240 -r 23.97 -vcodec wmv2 -acodec wmav2 -ab
160k ${1%\.*}.asf

From a bash prompt I run chinapod 01.ts and it converts the
recording happily to the desired format.

Could somebody tell me how could I implement this within vdr, so I
select 'Commands' and then the file to be converted and either it calls
the bash script to do the job or otherwise converts it using the same
parameters?

I am using vdr 1.7.15

[vdr] TS to chinapod

2010-10-14 Thread Arturo Martinez

Actually I have read the MANUAL before I posted here but can't figure out how
to get this working
(and yes I want to do this manually for specific recordings from the OSD )

Perhaps if somebody who is doing something similar (using the vdr OSD to
convert .TS files to something else)
could post their reccmds.conf and associated scripts if any, I could figure it
out what is it that I am doing wrong.

As it stands when I press the 'Red' key in the 'Recordings' menu and select a
command from there, nothing whatsoever happens.

check the file MANUAL in the vdr directory:
* Processing Recordings

The configuration file 'reccmds.conf' can be used to define system
commands
that can be applied to the recording that is currently highlighted in the
Recordings menu. The Red key in the Recordings menu opens the
Recording
commands menu if there are commands defined in the file
'reccmds.conf'. Pressing
one of the keys '1'..'9' in the Recordings menu executes the
corresponding
command from 'reccmds.conf' (see also Executing system commands below).

You can select a recording, press the red key and select the command you
want to execute on the recording.
So you can export it to several formats and more.

But that would only be for debian based systems, I use Archlinux for my

It looks like the author is no longer maintaining the plugin.

Which leads me to a question...
Has anybody thought of keeping a repository of plugins that the author
himself no longer seems to maintain and try to keep a patched version
available so that it compiles on modern systems?

I guess the e-tobi .deb packages could manage that by having the
compile-fixes as a patch in debian/patches/

[vdr] vdr conference streaming

2010-09-06 Thread martinez
Hi there,

I am a happy vdr user (vdr 1.7.15 with a DVB-S2 card)

I also happen to be member of an organization that promotes Open Source
(so we should set an example) and we want to stream a conference we are
organizing.

I thought perhaps setting up vdr with a webcam and perhaps vdr-xine or
streamdev would do the job?

The idea is that multiple clients across the country would be able to see
more or less in real time what is going on.

The video does not have to be HD or otherwise impresive (the audio should
be clear)

Is it possible to do this with vdr and could somebody give me a few
pointers and/or a link to a howto?

Many thanks

A Martinez

do you mean that all nvidia vdpau cards with existing drivers from Nvidia can't
provide exact 50.000Hz,
59.940Hz or 23.976Hz ??

There is no graphics card, BD/DVD player or other standalone device that
outputs those rates exactly. I don't know how much they deviate, but I'd
guess it's usually something like 0.01 % (50.005 Hz instead of 50 Hz),
as Jori said.

However, the rate doesn't need to match exactly because the display
device is synchronized to the video signal. The rate could be 50.1 Hz or
maybe even 51 Hz and the display wouldn't mind. 50 fps video files would
play slightly faster, but there would be no need to drop video frames
because of that.

Things are more problematic when receiving live broadcast. Then the
display and the video source (graphics card and software) needs to be
synchronized to the broadcast to avoid dropping or duplicating frames.
Set-top digital television boxes and FF DVB cards do that, but most
graphics cards/drivers can't because they aren't designed to follow an
external time source.

Audio playback synchronation is another issue, and somewhat difficult to
handle properly on a PC where the audio chip's clock is almost always
separate from the graphics card's clock. By default, many media players
time everything according to the audio clock, and therefore they need to
drop/duplicate video frames every now and then. The other alternative is
to drop/duplicate audio frames or resample the audio completely.

I assume you guys are aware of projects like:
http://frc.easy-vdr.de/

It was originally started to get perfectly synced RGB output
from a VGA card (to PAL TV), just like from FF DVB card.

I haven't really used that myself, but afaik they've been working
on making that exact synchronization (variable framerate) possible
with new HD/VGA/DVI outputs aswell.

You are absolutely right, the P4 has indeed 2.4GHz (and 512MB of RAM)
Which makes it the more surprising that on SD channels I am getting cpu

[vdr] speeding up vdr+xine on an old Pentium4

2010-08-21 Thread martinez
Hi,
I´ve taken an old PC (Intel graphics card on board, p...@553mhz, 512Megs of
RAM) and installed mms, vdr and lirc basically.

Everthing works fine but I see cpu utilization in the region of 90% (this
is with SD, I have no delusions about HD channels on this hardware)

At the moment it is connected to a monitor, so I have a feeling it goes
for the maximum resolution.
Eventually it will be connected to an old 28 inches TV (CRT not LCD) with
an adaptor VGA to RCA

Any tips on how I could speed things up? Xine settings? Xorg settings? vdr
settings? xv or opengl?

Hi,

I have an onboard nvidia 8200 graphics card, using vdr-1.7.15 connecting with

At the moment out of habit I am using the nvidia proprietary driver, but should
I use the open source instead? Which one is likely to yield better performance

Re: [vdr] frequent xine crashes with vdr

2010-08-17 Thread martinez
Hi Reinhard,

Unfortunately I can not reproduce it anymore, because in the meantimeI
installed a newer version of xine-lib and the problem disappeared.
What I notice is that using vdpau, on 28e BBC HD for example drops many frames
(unwatchable, although cpu load remains low), whereas using xv the same
channels plays perfectly
(although ITV1 HD even using xv drops some frames)
So for me it is xv for now as vdpau does not seem quite mature

[vdr] vdr: [2795] ERROR: remote control XineRemote not ready!

2010-08-17 Thread martinez
I wonder if somebody who understands fully the interaction between lirc, xine
and vdr can help me debug my setup.
The PC has no keyboard or mouse connected and it is operated exclusively via
the remote control for most of the part and ssh for the rest

I have only one irritating bug, I use oxine as a front end (then calling shells
as appropiate) and it I do not press any key on the remote for approximately 5
minutes while on this screen, the remote ceases to operate until I reboot
(once this happens if I run irw I can see output as usual) I wonder if it is
because my setup, although working perhaps it is kind of not optimal.

My remote is the type that uses input events (comes with the hauppagge sat

dmesg |grep input6

In xine itself I was not able to map the special vdr commands (I tried but
would not recognise most buttons) so I am not using that feature.

LIRC.Play Play
LIRC.0 0

I commented out the Arrow buttons because otherwise I was getting duplicate

twice, not one)

I call vdr from a script with vdr -c /etc/vdr -E /var/epgvdr --lirc --no-kbd -l

2010-08-15 Thread martinez
I start vdr and xine and all looks nicely and I zap channels a couple of
times without problems and the 3rd time or so xine freezes and I need to
restart it

It used to work fine, only 3 things have changed: 64 bits os instead of
32, a newer kernel, and using the kernel´s driver for my card (S2-HD-NOVA)
instead of the liaplin´s ones

Could someone point out what is the likely culprit? Does vdr+xine run
stable on 64 bits?

[vdr] rotor screen missing stuff

2010-06-23 Thread martinez
The plugin has been downgraded. There are people who use a patched and patched
0.1.4 rather than the official 0.1.5
The situation with the rotor plugin is so bad (so much patching needed to get
it to work and then I found it makes vdr unstable) I've resorted to having two

I guess it comes down to the hard truth that there is no vdr 1.7.x user with C

I am trying to get my rotor working again. I had been using v0.1.4 with
vdr-1.6.0. Now I'm trying to get v.0.1.5 working with vdr-1.7.15. On the
rotor page, Postion information no longer shows the sat it matches to,
the option to do a scan on the current TP is gone, and the lock and
other indicators are gone. Was that all part of the text2skin plugin
which I'm not using now? or has the plugin been down graded?

[vdr] multiple patching trouble

2010-06-21 Thread martinez
Hi Udo,

First of all thanks a lot for taking the time to write the patch for the event
scrolling!!

I've taken vanilla vdr 1.7.15 and applied the extensions patch V3 (see link
following)

http://copperhead.vdr-developer.org/downloads/extensionpatch/ExtP-NG-vdr-1.7.15-V3.diff

Then I apply the freesat epg patch (necessary to see 7 days of epg on 28e
rather than just now and next)
where I already don't know what I am doing 100% with eit.c.rej (see my previous
post)

http://www.rst38.org.uk/vdr/freesat_20080927_vdr1.7.diff

and finally I try your patch (with --dry-run )

patch -p1 --dry-run ../patches/event_1.7.15_patch
patching file menu.h
Hunk #1 succeeded at 95 with fuzz 2 (offset 50 lines).

Can you (or some other clever person) help ?

[vdr] any gui to make life easier with channels.conf ?

2010-04-19 Thread martinez
Him I have a channels list of over 5000 channels and it is a bit difficult to
tidy up with a text editor.

What I would need is an application that allows me to open channels.conf
(locally) and display ONLY the bouquetes and allows me to re-arrange them and
ideally to merge 2 of them at a time...

Is there anything like that that works with a modern vdr channels.conf ?

Re: [vdr] VDR 1.7.x, FUPPES and an xbox 360 client

2010-03-25 Thread martinez
Hi Denis,

I wish I had the skills to help you with the programming but bash and a bit of
C is all I can manage.
Perhaps it would be simpler (and achieve the same end) if you implement a
feature the plugin can read
an alternative to channels.conf . This way in my case for example I would copy
and paste a few essential channels and let the plugin load them but
no way I can let it loose on a channels.conf with more than 1000 entries...

About vdr recordings...

FUPPES chokes on my vdr folder, so does not seem to be .TS friendly

Anybody knows if minidlna supports streaming .TS files ?

I guess I will find out in a few hours anyways...

I feel sorry, that you were facing so many problems with the plugin.
Actually, it is still very bugous and will take some time to fix them. If
you are a programmer, feel free to help me improving it.

I will consider your idea to include a discard-all-but channel listing
feature. Recordings (except H.264) are supported yet in version 0.0.2-alpha.

Back to FUPPES: I haven't ever used FUPPES, so I just can say that this
should work. But I am not sure. Try it and you will see.___

[vdr] VDR 1.7.x, FUPPES and an xbox 360 client

2010-03-24 Thread martinez

I've setup an HTPC with VDR 1.7.13 and FUPPES.

The client is an xbox 360 and it can connect to FUPPES and play divx files but
not VDR's .TS recordings.

Anybody got this working and could tell me how to configure fuppes to transcode
the .TS recordings in .VOB or .MPG so the xbox 360 can play them?

implement a different behaviour for the left/right keys: to scroll
between programs. Pressing right should bring up the next event, pressing
left should bring up the previous event. To scroll in the OSD window Up and

Left and Right are used to page up/down within long list, and that's

The frames still drop sometimes of course but at least I do not see the

and thanks to the postings on this mailing list (pointing me in the right
direction) I have setup fuppes and that is good enough too.

Now I have a different problem that puzzles me.
on 19e, the HD channels show a terrible noise that doesn´t even go away
when I press the mute button.
Has anybody come across this? (and hopefully solved it)

[vdr] vdr htpc + xine = dropped frames warning

2010-02-05 Thread martinez

I am running a htpc with vdr 1.7.11 + xine

I was using oxine where there is no problem with warnings but unfortunately it
does not support vdpau and doesn't seem to be regularly maintained.

I have disabled dropped frames warning in xine but somehow I still get from
time to time a window telling me that xine is dropping some frames.
Since the HTPC is not connected to a mouse the only work around is to press the
power button on the remote (which is mapped to a script that kills xine and
returns to the main menu)

I would appreciate if somebody could point me to a sure way to get rid of all
warnings in xine, in fact I do not want xine to display anything other than the
vdr osd and the ts stream.
Is easy to patch the xine source code to act more suitably to an htpc?

cheers

[vdr] bug in 1.7.10 ?

2009-11-27 Thread martinez
The sat channel TVE1 on 19e changed transponder a few days ago.
I have a timer recording something on Thursdays.
So yesterday vdr would crash within 3 seconds of starting (once the
recording was to be on)

I had to edit timers.conf to disable the timer event and then and only
then edit the channel with the new transponder data, restart vdr (otherwise
it was showing a black screen)
before things went back to normal.

Re: [vdr] Enhancement request: sorting recordings by date pressing 0

I like to patch vdr as little as possible to keep it stable so not too
keen on applying the Liemikuutio all-in-one patch.

Is this patch available stand-alone for 1.7.9?

And Klaus, wouldn't the sort recordings by date-by-pressing 0 -and do
not save anything- patch be consistent with vdr behaviour
elsewhere and a desirable core function (that adds only about 10 lines
of code)

[vdr] Enhancement request

2009-10-20 Thread martinez

Dear Klaus,

I think VDR is a wonderfull programme and have but one request for an
enhancement.

Sometimes I know I recorded something a few days ago but can't remember
the exact name or whether it was the channel name.
If I could press a button and have the recordings sorted from most
recent

to oldest then it would be very easy to locate this recording.

Many thanks,

Art

Recently I have read about some simple USB IR receivers that don't send

I suppose you use one of them, because normally it works like your wife

Re: [vdr] feature request

2009-05-31 Thread martinez
I mean if I press Info and get the current EPG (Now), it would be nice a
one-key way to see what is Next on this same channel.

At the moment when you are looking at Now and want to see what is Next you
have to press Exit, then down, then Ok (3 key presses)

Since Left and Right are used for scrolling, perhaps the PrevChannel key
could be assigned to switch between Next and Now

The green button does switch between Now and Next in the Schedule

In Enigma (As a reference) this is implemented with left and right (going f

Left and Right are used to scroll up and down, respectively, in VDR.

Re: [vdr] vdr-1.7.7 crashes during starting wiith rotor plugin

2009-05-27 Thread martinez
No, xdipo is a stand-alone program, it requires X running and a lock on the
tuner, so vdr has to be stopped. It is not a perfect solution.

A perfect solution would be a new or updated rotor plugin.

Lacking that, you can visit my howto
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1126258

and download the patched rotor plugin from there.

Do not patch it anymore, just enable ROTOR = 1 in your Make.config (with the
extensions patch) and it will compile ok and run on startup.

It will still crash vdr from time to time which is why I have it off now that I
don't need to tinker with sat positions, but will have to run it again in the
future.

[vdr] vdr-1.7.7 crashes during starting wiith rotor plugin

2009-05-26 Thread martinez
If you have already your rotor positions stored then you don't need the plugin
at all (which does not work well with vdr 1.7.x, when you get it to work it
turns vdr into a rather unstable program) the rotor plugin needs re-writing in
my opinion.

Just setup your diseqc.conf like this:

These are my first 3 sat positions
the number (in hex) after 31 6B is the stored position)

What you are missing without the rotor plugin is the ability to move your rotor
hunting for new positions or re-aligning the dish. xdipo can help there, it is
a stand alone program.

2009-05-12 Thread martinez
I agree wholeheartedly with Malcolm Caldwell.

I have also read the manual (last night again to be precise)
and still think the handling of the pause key is far from ideal.

I think Timo's patch would be great.

Nothing changes for those who think the current system is 100% perfect
and two other settings for those who think otherwise

- pause live video (default)
- do not pause live video
- confirm pause live video (this is what I would choose myself)

Klaus, any chance this can make it to VDR 1.7.8 mainstream?

Better than having a remote for me and another one for my wife and kids, or
keeping my remote control in a safe or 'educating my little brats' or any other
of those suggestions that invariably translate as 'Everything is fine with VDR's
pause key and the problem is only with the user'

I thought this was a VDR developers mailing list and not a ´how to tell o

people how they should educate their kids´

I for one think is not helpful at all people posting here things like:

¨The Real Problem is that people are too lazy to educate their brats
properly.¨

It does not help and it is getting a bit annoying, I don´t tell you how t
o
bring up your kids. For me it is a better approach to change something in
VDR´s code than to divorce my wife and get a new one who is more competen
te
with VDR (perhaps I should look for a replacement in this thread?)
Of course divorce would end the problem as the kids would live with their
mother.

Now seriously, let´s keep unsolicited parenting advice out of this tread.

Now, as for the instant recording, how about it gets deleted when you zap t
o
another channel?

Geralds idea that by pressing record the instant recording becomes a real o
ne is
very good...

Re: [vdr] Can I disable pause live tv altogher?

2009-05-08 Thread martinez
The relook400s for example has an option (it can be turned on or off)
where a 30 minutes buffer of live tv is recorded to allow to rewind livetv.

This recording is automatically deleted when you zap to another channel, hence
the Wife Acceptance Factor is very high.

Whenever my wife sees in vdr 'channel not available' she freaks out and waits
for me to come back from work, and then nags how vdr is not working again.

It is nearly always instant recordings causing this and she is intimidated by
the routing of deleting the recoding with the @ and then zapping.

VDR is wonderful but it would not hurt to have options (I repeat options, that
can be enabled only if desired) that make it more acceptable to non-technical
users.

Well, orj is not an actual language ;-)

What you could try is to add orj to

const char *LanguageCodeList[]

in i18n.c and see if that helps.

Thanks Klaus,
That works perfect!
Any chance it can be added to the core as orj is a kind of virtual language
and in most cases it does equal to English...

Also one little thing that is driving me crazy.
My 3 years old daughter presses accidentally the Pause button and starts al
l
sort of instant recordings silenty, my wife then complains vdr is broken
because she can´t change channels.

What I am asking for is for some possibility to make the instant recording
ask
for confirmation before starting the instant recording.

The problem is even worse as we could actually be watching a DVD or an .avi
 file
outside vdr (but with vdr running in the background to allow for recordings
 and
so on) and pause the movie and lirc always helpful will send the pause comm
and
to vdr as well so I end up with even more undesired recordings.

[vdr] 2 little bugs report

2009-05-03 Thread martinez
Using VDR 1.7.6

1) On 7 East, there are hannels with two audio shown as TUR, and ORJ
(Tur for Turkish and Orj for original language) Default audio is Tur and in the
OSD settings it is not possible to give Orj a higher priority as it is not in
the list of languages.

2)My diseqc.conf contains
S19.2E 11700 V 9750 t v W15 [E0 31 6B 01] W25 [E0 31 6B 01] W15 t
S19.2E 9 V 10600 t v W15 [E0 31 6B 01] W25 [E0 31 6B 01] W15 T
S19.2E 11700 H 9750 t V W15 [E0 31 6B 01] W25 [E0 31 6B 01] W15 t
S19.2E 9 H 10600 t V W15 [E0 31 6B 01] W25 [E0 31 6B 01] W15 T

S13.0E 11700 V 9750 t v W15 [E0 31 6B 02] W25 [E0 31 6B 02] W15 t
S13.0E 9 V 10600 t v W15 [E0 31 6B 02] W25 [E0 31 6B 02] W15 T
S13.0E 11700 H 9750 t V W15 [E0 31 6B 02] W25 [E0 31 6B 02] W15 t
S13.0E 9 H 10600 t V W15 [E0 31 6B 02] W25 [E0 31 6B 02] W15 T

and some more entries like that for other satellite positions
This diseqc command means
E0 - header
31 - command for 1st rotor
6B - Go to stored position
01 - Position 1

The trouble is that VDR when idle for a while it starts moving the dish around,
probably to update the EPG or channel pids? This is a really nice feature with
Diseqc switches but not with rotors where it scares my wife when the dish moves
alone at 3 in the morning (and probably annoy my neightbours too)

So my humble request for Klaus: Diseq commands of type E0 31 6B or E0 31 6E (for
gotoX) should only be actually sent on channels zapping, not for idle tasks.

[vdr] vdr and vdpau

2009-04-27 Thread martinez
I have installed an nvidia driver with vpdau support, patched xine-lib1.2 with
the vpdau patch, and recompiled xine-ui

I have improvement with HD channels cpu utilization wise but still choppy image.

Do I need to patch vdr itself or change some config options to optimize the
speed?
