Well, it seems I found the problem. The HAUPPAUGE NOVA-S2-HD card (HVR4000 lite / CX24116 frontend) won't lock onto DVB-S2 channels with FEC_AUTO or ROLLOFF_AUTO set. So, I modified the plugin to allow selectable values for FEC and ROLLOFF and now it works fine. I can now lock and scan DVB-S and DVB-S2 channels (QPSK and 8PSK) directly from the plugin menu and move the dish to find and store satellites with diseqc and signal strength meter. Ideal for feedhunting now! When I get a bit more time I'll tidy up the plugin and release it as it should now act as a pretty good satellite channel scanner irrespective of whether you have a rotor within VDR. [vdr] vdr conference streaming
Hi there, I am a happy vdr user (vdr 1.7.15 with a DVB-S2 card) I also happen to be member of an organization that promotes Open Source (so we should set an example) and we want to stream a conference we are organizing. I thought perhaps setting up vdr with a webcam and perhaps vdr-xine or streamdev would do the job? The idea is that multiple clients across the country would be able to see more or less in real time what is going on. The video does not have to be HD or otherwise impresive (the audio should be clear) Is it possible to do this with vdr and could somebody give me a few pointers and/or a link to a howto? Many thanks A Martinez ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

This will cause some judder on display output as MPEG/AVC input-stream is not synchronized to output framerate. do you mean that all nvidia vdpau cards with existing drivers from Nvidia can't provide exact 50.000Hz, 59.940Hz or 23.976Hz ?? There is no graphics card, BD/DVD player or other standalone device that outputs those rates exactly. I don't know how much they deviate, but I'd guess it's usually something like 0.01 % (50.005 Hz instead of 50 Hz), as Jori said. However, the rate doesn't need to match exactly because the display device is synchronized to the video signal. The rate could be 50.1 Hz or maybe even 51 Hz and the display wouldn't mind. 50 fps video files would play slightly faster, but there would be no need to drop video frames because of that. Things are more problematic when receiving live broadcast. Then the display and the video source (graphics card and software) needs to be synchronized to the broadcast to avoid dropping or duplicating frames. Set-top digital television boxes and FF DVB cards do that, but most graphics cards/drivers can't because they aren't designed to follow an external time source. Audio playback synchronation is another issue, and somewhat difficult to handle properly on a PC where the audio chip's clock is almost always separate from the graphics card's clock. By default, many media players time everything according to the audio clock, and therefore they need to drop/duplicate video frames every now and then. The other alternative is to drop/duplicate audio frames or resample the audio completely. I assume you guys are aware of projects like: http://frc.easy-vdr.de/ It was originally started to get perfectly synced RGB output from a VGA card (to PAL TV), just like from FF DVB card. I haven't really used that myself, but afaik they've been working on making that exact synchronization (variable framerate) possible with new HD/VGA/DVI outputs aswell. -- Pasi ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Hi Reinhard, Unfortunately I can not reproduce it anymore, because in the meantimeI installed a newer version of xine-lib and the problem disappeared. What I notice is that using vdpau, on 28e BBC HD for example drops many frames (unwatchable, although cpu load remains low), whereas using xv the same channels plays perfectly (although ITV1 HD even using xv drops some frames) So for me it is xv for now as vdpau does not seem quite mature Regards, Art ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Re: [vdr] VDR 1.7.x, FUPPES and an xbox 360 client
Hi Denis, I wish I had the skills to help you with the programming but bash and a bit of C is all I can manage. Perhaps it would be simpler (and achieve the same end) if you implement a feature the plugin can read an alternative to channels.conf . This way in my case for example I would copy and paste a few essential channels and let the plugin load them but no way I can let it loose on a channels.conf with more than 1000 entries... About vdr recordings... FUPPES chokes on my vdr folder, so does not seem to be .TS friendly Anybody knows if minidlna supports streaming .TS files ? I guess I will find out in a few hours anyways... Re: [vdr] vdr-1.7.7 crashes during starting wiith rotor plugin
No, xdipo is a stand-alone program, it requires X running and a lock on the tuner, so vdr has to be stopped. It is not a perfect solution. A perfect solution would be a new or updated rotor plugin. Lacking that, you can visit my howto http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1126258 and download the patched rotor plugin from there. Do not patch it anymore, just enable ROTOR = 1 in your Make.config (with the extensions patch) and it will compile ok and run on startup. It will still crash vdr from time to time which is why I have it off now that I don't need to tinker with sat positions, but will have to run it again in the future. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

[vdr] xineplayer uncontrolable...
VDR 1.7.7 I have installed the mplayer plugin and read the MANUAL in the xine plugin, consequently modified mplayer.sh to call xineplayer instead of mplayer So far so good but when I open the mplayer plugin and play any file (for example a .avi ) the movie displays correctly but there is no way to pause it, or otherwise control it. I press pause and I see the pause symbol on the screeen but whereas playing normal vdr recordings it works fine, with the mplayer plugin and xineplayer the movie does not pause. Re: [vdr] Can I disable pause live tv altogher?
I agree wholeheartedly with Malcolm Caldwell. I have also read the manual (last night again to be precise) and still think the handling of the pause key is far from ideal. I think Timo's patch would be great. Nothing changes for those who think the current system is 100% perfect and two other settings for those who think otherwise - pause live video (default) - do not pause live video - confirm pause live video (this is what I would choose myself) Klaus, any chance this can make it to VDR 1.7.8 mainstream? Better than having a remote for me and another one for my wife and kids, or keeping my remote control in a safe or 'educating my little brats' or any other of those suggestions that invariably translate as 'Everything is fine with VDR's pause key and the problem is only with the user' ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
[vdr] reccmds.conf
Could somebody post a working reccmds.conf I want to convert a .ts recording to .avi (xvid) so I have added a line to reccmds.conf like this: Convert to AVI: ffmpeg -r 29.97 -croptop 58 -cropbottom 62 -vcodec libxvid -vtag XVID -s 640x272 -aspect 2.35 -maxrate 1800k -b 1500k -qmin 3 -qmax 5 -bufsize 4096 -mbd 2 -bf 2 -flags +4mv -cmp 2 -subcmp 2 -g 300 -acodec libmp3lame -ar 48000 -ab 128k -ac 2 -async 1 -vsync 0 $1 $1.avi But it doesn't work. Re: [vdr] Can I disable pause live tv altogher?
I thought this was a VDR developers mailing list and not a ´how to tell o ther people how they should educate their kids´ I for one think is not helpful at all people posting here things like: ¨The Real Problem is that people are too lazy to educate their brats properly.¨ It does not help and it is getting a bit annoying, I don´t tell you how t o bring up your kids. For me it is a better approach to change something in VDR´s code than to divorce my wife and get a new one who is more competen te with VDR (perhaps I should look for a replacement in this thread?) Of course divorce would end the problem as the kids would live with their mother. Now seriously, let´s keep unsolicited parenting advice out of this tread. Now, as for the instant recording, how about it gets deleted when you zap t o another channel? Geralds idea that by pressing record the instant recording becomes a real o ne is very good... Re: [vdr] Can I disable pause live tv altogher?
The relook400s for example has an option (it can be turned on or off) where a 30 minutes buffer of live tv is recorded to allow to rewind livetv. This recording is automatically deleted when you zap to another channel, hence the Wife Acceptance Factor is very high. Whenever my wife sees in vdr 'channel not available' she freaks out and waits for me to come back from work, and then nags how vdr is not working again. It is nearly always instant recordings causing this and she is intimidated by the routing of deleting the recoding with the @ and then zapping. VDR is wonderful but it would not hurt to have options (I repeat options, that can be enabled only if desired) that make it more acceptable to non-technical users. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Re: [vdr] Can I disable pause live tv altogher?
removing the pause key from remote.conf is not a proper solution as when watching a recording I like to pause it sometimes. In truth is not only my kids that press the pause key but my wife or myself when using mplayer to watch an .avi file. Yes I could map the vdr pause key somewhere else as a workaround but I ask, doesn´t anybody know how to patch the code to simply either: a) Disable the pause live tv feature all together (not the pause recording playback) --- or --- b)Enable a confirmation dialog before the pause live tv kicks in If I knew how to code option b I would go for that but I would settle for o ption a ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

This is a really nice feature with Diseqc switches but not with rotors where it scares my wife when the dish moves alone at 3 in the morning (and probably annoy my neightbours too) So my humble request for Klaus: Diseq commands of type E0 31 6B or E0 31 6E (for gotoX) should only be actually sent on channels zapping, not for idle tasks. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
