Re: [videoblogging] Re: Building your vlog's following

2005-09-11 Thread David Howell
I used to use PMachine. Then I used Expression Engine. Neither really
gave me the control that I wanted. I had tried Moveable Type in the
past but I didnt like having to rebuild everything after I posted. In
the end, I finally settled on WordPress as my vlog/blog platform and
couldnt be happier.

All that really means nothing though as it is a personal choice what
one uses for their blog or vlog.

pmachine.com offers its free software, pmachine. It also offers

 many more options for modification.

blogger.com is a great resource for those who want simple
blogging... but for those who want more power (ah ah! POWAH!) over
their blogging, more modifications and such, PM and EE are great
tools to use, and I vouch for them both all the time.

I'm a member of some forums where one can post a comment about

something and then click a box so you are automatically notified by
email whenever someone else posts a comment after your comment. I
have found this feature to be invaluable in continuing a discussion
on some line of thought. Days or weeks later, I'll get an email
notice with a link which returns me to that discussion.

I've always thought such a feature on a vlog would be most

valuable. I've finally found such a vlog. Anyone really interested
in developing a base of readers should explore it.

When first visiting, if you try to post a comment, you will be

prompted to register first. Many of us have done this on sites
that host vlogs like Blogger, etc. It took about four hours before
I got an email validating my registration. Usually, most of us
would be video years away from a posting-moment-thought after four
 hours.

However, I had left the link open, returned and posted my

comments. I think I made that effort because I hate to leave a good
 vlog with 0 comments.

Then, I received an email saying someone had replied to my

comment. This was a first time experience for me while vlogging.

I returned to the vlog. I think a new vlog had been put up

replacing the episode I was commenting on. I typed a quick answer
to that comment asking what kind of program the vlogger used. Seems
that all this is available (for money of course) at

 http://www.pmachine.com/ .

I'm not a computer geek. However, I know an effective way to

handle personal interactions. After posting my answer to the
answer, I was suddenly invited to choose an avatar to accompany
any future comments I might want to make. Now, I use an avatar,(a
simple lighted single candle), at The Immortality Institute forum.

You become very fond of the avatar you choose. Such features as

email notification that a comment (possibly on your comment) has
been posted on a vlog and vanity extras like avatars are very
effective tools for drawing anyone into interactions and
 conversations on any site.

All this makes me fear that in the vlogosphere, geeks will

ultimately rule the roost despite all the wonderful free tutorials
 at Freevlog!

[videoblogging] Re: What to buy and use; Editing software / tools / tapes / magazines /

2006-01-16 Thread David Howell
I use both a PC and a Mac to do my editing. It all depends on what
system I sit down to at any given time.

On my PC, for editing, I use Adobe Premiere Pro. After I have done all
my editing, I save the movie as an uncompressed AVI then encode it to
an 320x240 H.264 MOV file using Quicktime Pro.

As for other editors, I've probably tried them all. Vegas is very,
very good. Adobe Premiere Elements is very good (only about $100).
Ulead MediaStudio and VisualStudio are good. Pinnacle is absolute
crap. Version 10 is worse than crap. Stay away from Pinnacle if you
want to keep your money and your sanity.

As a side note. Windows MovieMaker will have a new version when
Windows Vista is released. All the functions (transitions, special
effects, fonts, etc) that you are looking for can pretty much be found
in almost all NLE's these days.

Tapes. I use a tape only once and then pop in a new one when it's
full. I mostly do that for archival purposes.

Software Utilities. None. Premiere Pro and Quicktime Pro do everything
I need or want them to do.

Video magazines. I have a subscription to DV Magazine. Good toilet
reading material :)

Hope that helped.

Personally, I can't stand Pinnacle. I don't have the latest version,
but the older version I had crashed constantly, and took forever to
encode. Read lots of online reviews.

I have always heard that you should only use a tape one time... but

[videoblogging] Re: legal rights of copyrighted material

2006-01-19 Thread David Howell
How about the rebroadcasting of video? I see this time and time again
online where someone has captured something off the television, or
downloaded it from somewhere and then slapped it up on their website.

Case and point, http://www.palazzojay.blogspot.com/

The reason I am using this site as an example (there are tons of sites
similar to this one out there) is that these rebroadcasted videos are
all over Blip this morning. Now, the person that has that website
really isnt breaking a copyright law. Correct? Blip are the ones that
are actually hosting those videos. I assume that they must accept full
responsibility should a Saturday Night Live lawyer come look around.
Something tells me that SNL doesnt use a Creative Commons license with
regards to their old shows.

Of course, that could open a huge can of worms when it comes to people
using copyright music within their videos. Many people do it. I myself
have been guilty of using music I didnt own in a video. Blatant
rebroadcasting of a television program is another thing though.

Am I way off base here and is there some clause in a Blip
agreement/contract that releases them of all copyright infringments?

Glad to see a replied to my post. I was beginning to think no one

The reason I used him as an example was that I noticed a ton of videos

are others that do the same, upload copyrighted material, however not
to the extent that he was.

   Case and point, http://www.palazzojay.blogspot.com/

The reason I am using this site as an example (there are tons of
sites
similar to this one out there) is that these rebroadcasted videos are
all over Blip this morning. Now, the person that has that website
really isnt breaking a copyright law. Correct? Blip are the ones that
are actually hosting those videos. I assume that they must accept
full
responsibility should a Saturday Night Live lawyer come look around.
Something tells me that SNL doesnt use a Creative Commons license
with
   regards to their old shows.

Of course, that could open a huge can of worms when it comes to
people
using copyright music within their videos. Many people do it. I
myself
have been guilty of using music I didnt own in a video. Blatant
rebroadcasting of a television program is another thing though.

Am I way off base here and is there some clause in a Blip
agreement/contract that releases them of all copyright infringments?

   David
  http://www.taoofdavid.com

Yeah, Jay was totally violating copyright. There's no question what he
was doing was illegal. He wasn't using bits of SNL in a larger piece of
artwork. He wasn't making a video of himself on SNL, cutting in and out
of their sketches, back to him... He didn't add value to the material
-- he was clearly rebroadcasting work that he didn't have any rights
to. He was putting blip at risk as well. There is no way that blip
could sign something with Jay that would release them of responsibility
-- Jay has no legal standing to sign a contract about someone else's
 work.

It's interesting that you used him as an example -- he was a student in
my videoblogging class last semester. (The whole posting SNL clips and
t.v. commercials thing was new, however. He added those to his blog
 after the semester was over.)

SNL is a particularly hot set of videos to post right now, in my
opinion, since NBC just signed a deal with Apple to put them on the
iTunes Music store. Apple has reason to want to clamp down on illegal
 rebroadcast, as well as NBC.

So what happened? Blip.tv pulled all the videos and emailed Jay to
say... uh Mr. Palazzo we don't think so. Blip was very kind,
and didn't punish him. They just stopped him cold.

Any NLE will be able to capture the video. What you will need is the
proper hardware.

You can use a video capture card and plug a VCR into that and capture.

You can use a DV camera that has A/V inputs. (VCR to DV Cam to Computer)

Failing that...you can bring your VHS cassette into a company that
will capture it for you and put it on DVD.

There doesnt have to be ads in the actual videos. Find an alternative

If you want advertising, make it my choice whether or not I will click

2006-01-30 Thread David Howell
Ah. Well...for me personally, I wouldnt run a video commercial. My
solution was an attempt to avoid the commercials in video.

While I am not opposed to ads on a website, my wish is to not
interfere with the viewers experience of watching my/the content.

I may or may not include an ad below my videos in a pop-up window.
Still thinking about it. Would the small amount of revenue gained from
that be worth it? Maybe. However if viewers dont watch my videos
because of it, then I would certainly remove the ads.

For Rocketboom, with the multitudes of viewers they have, an
experiment like this may not be so harmful to lose a few viewers here
and there. For someone like me with a small amount of visitors, losing
a any amount of people watching would make a difference.

I already pay enough for cable TV and I am overrun with advertising there.

No amount of debate from anyone voicing the virtues of making a quick
buck from their online videos is going to change my opinion. Insert
the ads in the beginning, in the middle, in the end. I dont care. All
I know is that if I come across a vlog, choose to watch a video, and
there is a commercial in it, I wont watch that persons video again.

Any one that thinks this is a great and fantastic idea...all the more
power to ya. To each their own I guess.

they

I hope so too.

I would love to see anyone that does what they love to do earn a
living off it.

I was asked once, if money was not an object, what would you want to
do for a living? I said live off the sale of my paintings.

I got what I asked for. At the time, I probably wasnt quite ready for
the ramifications of what that all meant.

I guess in the long run, my adverse reaction to the whole advertising
plan and vloggers is that I sincerely hope not to see happen to anyone
else, what had happened to me. It certainly isnt jealousy as some had
alluded to.

You know. I never said to anyone that they shouldnt take money for
advertising on their blog/vlog/whatever you want to call what you do
on your website.

I am just saying be conscious of what you are taking the money for.

I could go on with another story about when I ran an internet radio
station back in the day and was bought out with advertising and the
likes. But I aint going to bore anyone else with my stories.

Suffice it to say that if every vlogger out there snags some sort of
deal and gets paid to vlog, then kudos for you. Good on ya. Ride it as
far as you can and then go the extra 200 feet.

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry can reply to this subject with their
thoughts and ideas and opinions until the cows come home. I'm done
with it. I have to go and spend some time in the Mayo with my wife and
try to make some of her time enjoyable and bareable.

Thanks, be well and take care.

So, David, it's not the money you have a problem with. It's the
 influence that money brings.

I wonder if other motivators/value-markers that can also influence
 content are as soul-destroying.

For instance: I love my husband. Our love is generally a positive
thing. BUT: his influence has changed/removed some of my vlog content.
Is that a bad thing or not?

I'm also motivated by audience comments-- I love it when people say
stuff about my vlog! Don't we all just love the attention sometimes?
Is fame/attention a negative motivator? If the fans want one thing
in particular from you, at what point is it as damaging as when the
corporations want you to dance to their own tune for pay? I know many
writers who have answered the cries of their fans to the point where
their work is virtually unreadable, so full of fan-insertions,
in-jokes, and repetitions of the same tired stories and characters.
This happens in TV all the time, and movies to a lesser degree,
because both of those are much greater financial risks. In novels,
however, publishers are willing to risk a certain amount of money on
the percentage of the fans who are guaranteed to buy the book. At what
point does the author say no, that's just not what I should write
anymore? Even without the monetary incentive-- the fans are crying
for it! [Case in point: the Firefly, Season Two campaign that's going
on right now, despite Joss Whedon's assurances that Serenity was the
 end.]

 Err... but I digress.

I'm less conscious of money than I should be-- even though it's a
direct, value-oriented thing, I have a hard time keeping it in the
forefront of my brain. Which is not to say I don't love money and the
things I can do with it (mostly purchasing small, expensive electronic
gizmos). But rather, money is only motivating to a point:

Money is a major motivator when you can't afford to buy a baked potato
 for lunch.
Money is a strong motivator when you're barely able to afford health
insurance.
Money stops motivating most people when they can cover their bills and
tuck a small amount (never enough) into a savings account, and provide
for their children, if applicable. For childless folks, money is even
less motivating-- once I have enough to carry me into my nineties,
exactly what more do I need?

I would say that someone giving me $10,000 to run ads on my videoblog
would just convince me to turn that particular domain into their
corporate mouthpiece. Which is fine-- I have never been so proud that
I was unwilling to sell what few talents I have for cash. When I was
fifteen and in the throes of teenaged writer angst, I was still
looking forward to the day I envisioned, of myself selling ad copy as
a corporate shill. Hey, it's only soul-destroying if you let it touch
 your soul.

If I were given $10K for my vlog, I'd probably shortly start up my own
personal free vlog space elsewhere, basically starting over, because
I'd still need my own voice somewhere, independent and without strings
attached. And, well, the corporation would probably need to have it in
the contract that I'd update their vlog more often than my own,
because if not, I know which one is more interesting to me to update
 anyway

My assumption is that it's a video of a beheading.

You probably dont want to view it. The ends, in my opinion, do not
justify the means.

All I see it doing is two things. Promoting hatred against another
culture and causing further uproar. Two things that are NOT needed at
this time. Why he chose to want show it is beyond me and I certainly
question his intentions. Either he wanted show something he thought
was important or just further his own desire for hits to his site/videos.

Regardless...I am not impressed.

I guess I will have to put a piece of tape over that switch now to

 editing software (Roxio VideoWave 7).

So I eagerly recorded the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, and
had some

was a bunch of files that I can't open with anything - they cause
Windows
Media Player and everything else to hang, VLC plays them with no

only thing
that lets me do anything with them is the DivX converter, which happily
converts them to DivX. But I don't have any editing software that

Any ideas, anybody? I'm really frustrated that I can't use this footage.

It looks like Ourmedia has it's share of problems as well. Just tried
to upload a 6 meg video both with their site and with their upload

are having multiple problems there as well.

Very few things come for free. Think I am going to use my own host

[videoblogging] Re: Exact conversions for Adobe Premier elements to QT

2006-02-16 Thread David Howell
Ok...this is how *I* work with Premiere Elements...

Start a new project. Use the default preset of DV-NTSC.

Capture video.

Edit video.

When finished, go File, Export, Movie.

Save it as an AVI. Generally the default settings are all fine. They
should be the following...

Export
 Video and audio
 Entire Timeline

Filetype
 Microsoft DV AVI

Video Settings
 Compressor: DV NTSC
 Frame size: 720h 480v (0.900)
 Frame rate: 29.97 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC (0.9)
 Fields: Lower Field First

Audio Settings
 Compressor: Uncompressed
 Sample rate: 48000 samples/second
 Channels: Stereo
 Sample type: 16-bit

Now, open Quicktime.

Import AVI.

Then File, Export.

The settings you want to use are the following...

Under Video
Settings
- Compression Type - H.264
- Motion - Frame Rate: 15FPS
- Key Frames - Automatic
- Data Rate - Restrict to 355kbits/sec
- Optimized for Streaming
- Compressor - Encoding - Best Quality (Multi Pass)

Filter
- No filters

Size
Custom Size - Width 320 Height 240

Now onto the Sound
Settings
- Format - AAC
- Channels - Stereo (L R)
- Rate - 22.050kHz
Check Show Advanced Settings
AAC Encoder Settings:
- Bit Rate Format - Constant Bit Rate
- Target Bit Rate - 32kbps
- Precedence - Sample Rate
- Quality - Better

That should give you the following...

http://www.taoofdavid.com/videos/baby_sphynx_2.mov

I use this method all the time and the videos turn out fine for the web.

[videoblogging] Re: video on the web verses video on the desktop verses video on TV verses....

2006-02-16 Thread David Howell

Do you enjoy watching vlog video on:

 + The Web
+ Desktop Media Player and/or Aggregator
 + TV
+ Portable Media Player (viPod, PSP etc)

Mostly...the web.

 Questions questions questions.
Are you hard core? Spend several hours a day watching video?

Not hard core. I'll sit down for an hour or 2 and watch some of my
prefered vloggers.

Are you a remixer? Do you need/like to organize all the video from
channels you subscribe to for later?

Have no interest in remixing what someone else has done. I dont save
online videos. Just watch them as I come across them.

Do you typically watch the same video more than once? If so, do you
find it annoying to go back to the source to grab or search your
computer for it?

I generally only watch a video once unless it's a REALLY good one. If
I want to watch it again, I just go back to the site and replay it.

Do you enjoy the web video experience? What makes it good or bad
for you?

I enjoy it. Bad: Video that wont come off a server fast enough and
stutters.

Do you like special software to handle video playback?

No.

Do you care about online video working like a TV so you can channel
surf?

No.

Are you online most of the time? Have broadband?

Have broadband.

Commute and use a portable device? Whats it like for you?

I recently got a Samsung A920 phone. I bought a 512M SD card for it
and sometimes grab the latest PAN compilation, convert it to 3gp and
put on my phone to watch over lunch.

2006-02-18 Thread David Howell
I agree and I am one of those that is willing to spend the money for a
dedicated host shared with other vloggers that will host our content.
The point of it making money or being self-sustaining is not my goal.
I never said I wanted a free server. Blip already gives me that.

The simple fact is that I am not willing to spend my money on a
venture that Blip and Ourmedia already provide for free. I dont have
the time nor desire to put into something like that.

Back to the original question, if there is a group of people here that
would be interested in pooling their money together to get a server to
host videos, count me in. If not...no skin off my nose.

Vlog hosting needs two things, servers and bandwidth. A
collective or a
shared hosting resource of vloggers is never going to be able to compete
with people who's business it is to make a profit doing this. You
are not
going to be able to rent a server from anyone, delve it up between a

option
is to be in the hosting business, in which you divide up hosting
resources

unprofitable users is unprofitable, no matter how you do the math. Much
better to let the companies whose business it is combine users who,
while
they may be allocated hundreds of gigabytes a month of transfer,
don't use
 it, with users who do.

There are two options in the vlog hosting world, and I don't see a
need for
a third. There are people who want to host their vlogs for free,
and thus
they make a tradeoff in terms of service, and there are those who are
willing to pay. I'm all for free services, and I happily recommend
them to
people who don't really care whether their users can access their
videos.
There are also paid options, which cost a mimimal amount a month
(honestly,
if you can't afford $120/yr, you can't afford the camera and the
computer to
vlog either, probably). I recommend the paid options to most
people. Who
wants to invest the time and effort to create a middle option when the
second option is already so cheap?

better to let the companies whose business it is combine users
who, while
they may be allocated hundreds of gigabytes a month of transfer,
don't use
  it, with users who do.

There are two options in the vlog hosting world, and I don't see a
need
for a third. There are people who want to host their vlogs for
free, and
thus they make a tradeoff in terms of service, and there are those
who are
willing to pay. I'm all for free services, and I happily
recommend them to
people who don't really care whether their users can access their

Serious. Are you having a conversation with someone here that isnt

You know...all we need is a repository that hold files.

All I am looking for is a server that hosts my media that I can ftp my
file to and link to from my site.

Folders for the users. Figure out your own way to determine how many
times the files are accessed.

Simplicity does actually work.

Here is just the beginning of the article:

NBC Needs To Fall Into Some Internet Marketing Cracks
A media critique by Wayne Friedman, Monday, February 20,
2006
NBC DOESN'T WANT THE HELP of strangers--especially
strangers who want to help promote its shows.

Such is the case with YouTube.com, which offered up a
free download of a short Saturday Night Live sketch. NBC itself also
offers the sketch free on its Web site. But NBC told YouTube to give
the skit the heave-ho.

Why? Perhaps this could lead to abuse. Perhaps someone
would get too crazy and start promoting other shows, real crappy ones.
Then what? I don't know. Perhaps they could climb out of last place.

NBC's official response to YouTube is this: We're
taking a long and careful look at how to protect our content, said a
spokeswoman, who added that the company means no ill will toward fan
sites.

This is backward thinking. Buzz marketing, viral
marketing, word-of-mouth marketing is what network marketing
executives should be dreaming about, efforts which can coolly relaunch
shows, or tout quality--but underappreciated--shows. Viral marketing
may be imperfect--but it could be the answer in an age of
fractionalization

could take longer if our current ISP drags their feet in terms of
installation. Either way, within a few days, our performance problems

getting much better at it, but with the amount of content we're

problem, and we're doing everything we can between now and then to
 make things fast.

  http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/story?id=1650209page=1

Unfortunately, longevity is not the point. Longevity is the kind of
thing that concerns the middle-aged rather than the teenagers who form
the backbone of a service like MySpace.

Most children and young people live in a kind of eternal now, where it
is assumed that things will be like this forever. It's not usually
until a little later in life, when you have experienced change, felt
loss and begun to ask yourself the definitive adult question should
we have children yet? that longevity becomes a driving force.

As a real example of this, one of my college students (aged around 17)
while talking about styles of clothing, casually expressed that, in
comparison to fashions from the past (say the 1980s and 1990s),
today's fashions would probably last forever. When I probed a bit
deeper, the explanation was that today's styles are ordinary,
whereas the others were just wierd.

This attitude, that the the strangeness and change was all in the past
and things will just remain as they are from now on, goes a long way
in trying to understand both the success of observably transient
phenomena such as MySpace, and failure of the many attempts to
  interest young people in politics.

Keeping people in this passive, unquestioning, state is good news for
advertisers and governments, so many cultures have developed elaborate
ways of delaying the onset of adult responsibility.

[videoblogging] Mac mini, videobloging (was Re: May events)

2006-03-01 Thread David Howell
Before I reserve final judgement, I'll await independant benchmarks on
how well this little machine performs.

Given that the integrated intel video will be allowed to use up to 80M
of system memory, it will be interesting to see how that will affect
OSX when it starts swapping memory.

Also, seeing that the system requirements for Front Row on the intel
chips are...

PC OSX x86
512MB of physical memory
Mac OS v.10.4.3 Tiger
1.4GHz Intel class processor
32MB video ram

PC OSX x86
512MB of physical memory
Mac OS v.10.4.3 Tiger
1.2GHz AMD class processor
64MB video ram

...actual performance will, again, be interesting to see.

 anything else.

[videoblogging] Mac mini, videobloging (was Re: May events)

2006-03-01 Thread David Howell
I have a PC running as a server up in my attic. It has the onboard
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900. The 950 is marginally better
than the 900. It's original purpose wasnt to be a server however after
seeing the performance of the video, that became it's destiny.

How OSX will utilize the intel chip is yet to be seen. Comparing XP or
Vista to OSX is pointless as these are two different video rendering
engines.

I would say that the one thing the integrated intel video will have
going for it in the new Mini is that it is pci-express and not AGP.

Again, I am going to reserve judgement until I see some benchmarks.
Further, I'll reserve my final judgement for when I head down to an
Apple store and use one for myself.

 Jeez people,

 Lets do some research!

The Intel GMA 950 graphics core blows away the previous graphics on
the mac mini. It now supports OSX core video and will play 3D games
just fine. But if you want a games machine get an xbox360!

Some blurb from the tech specs:

If you want to watch video on your PC, then utilize Intel GMA 950
graphics for smooth video playback, native 16:9 format support for
wide screen flat panels, motion compensation for smooth DVD playback
and support for popular HDTV display formats.

High Definition Hardware Motion Compensation to support high
 definition hi-bitrate MPEG2 media playback
Up and Down Scaling of Video Content
High Definition Content Decode - up to two stream support
   5x3 Overlay Filtering.

 HDTV 480i/p, 576i/p, 720i/p and 1080i/p display resolution
 support

256-bit graphics core running at 400MHz
Up to 10.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth with DDR2 667 system memory
   1.6 GPixels/sec and 1.6 GTexels/sec fill rate
Up to 224 MB maximum video memory
2048x1536 at 75 Hz maximum resolution
Dynamic Display Modes for flat-panel, wide-screen and Digital TV
 support

This baby was designed to support Windows Vista which is known to be
 graphics intensive.

So basically, Apple have designed a small, quiet, extremely powerful
media center with full HDTV support that streams audio and video from
any other computer in the house with no configuration. It's also has
bluetooth and wireless support and can play CDs and DVDs. And it's
can also be a single or dual processor computer!

Let's see what the reviews say when the little beasty hits the streets!

Oh, and there's no PVR (personal video recorder) option built in
because Apples business model for the future (as is now) will be
downloading content via the net, not capturing broadcast content.

 Just my 2p!

PS I was just as pi**ed off when I heard about the integrated
graphics until I saw the specs!

[videoblogging] Re: OT: how to move between servers

2006-03-05 Thread David Howell
I agree. Best (read easiest) thing I can see doing in this situation
is to install a clean version of MT then upload all your files then
import your database.

I use Wordpress and that's how I did it when I switched hosts.

I cant see you getting around not dowloading all your files and then
re-uploading them to your new host.

Yes. The thing to remember is: when moving an MT install or any dynamic
website, it's NOT just about FTP-ing the files (which is easy), but
about
replicating the database, usernames, permissions and all that geeky
stuff
 (which can be hard).

You should look into MT's import/export options though. That might
be the
 simplest way.

ok, then you need to find info on the MT website.

The basic steps will be these:

1. backup your files to your local computer
2. backup your database (you know how to do this?)
3. Now you can either start a new MT install on your new host, and
import all your entries (using MT's import/export mechanism),
OR attempt to
transfer your entire install by ftp-ing all the files,
re-creating your
database, chmodding all the right directories. I am not sure
which approach
is better.

You need to find the right details on the MT website, since
this can
be pretty complex.

Good luck!

[videoblogging] Re: Newbie - Got Lots of Questions - Can you Help?

2006-03-08 Thread David Howell
Go check out the Pinnacle forums for all the problems people have had
and are having. I'm telling you it's bad based on my own personal
experience with the software.

There are numerous easy to use NLE's out there that will do that
job. In the end, it will be up to you what you are comfortable using.
I've found that Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 is very powerful yet
simple enough for the beginner. Remember though, there is a difference
between Adobe Premiere and Adobe Premiere Elements.

If you dont want to purchase anything at this time, you can just use
Windows Movie Maker until you are more comfortable with editing.

If you are going to be creating Quicktime movies, I would suggest
spending the $30 and purchasing Quicktime Pro for encoding your final
videos.

Later today I'm going to try using this software
 http://www.jeroenwijering.com/?item=Flash_Video_Player

It has a wordpress plugin so I think that it can work with the
 wordpress RSS feeds.

Once I get that figured out I'm going to also look at creating
 quicktime versions of my blogs.

The one thing I'm still stumped on is which editing software to use.
There have been a few suggestions, but I don't understand why folks
are so down on Pinnacle. Can you tell me why it is such a bad solution?

Also, is Adobe Premiere easy yet powerful? I want to be able to edit
the movies with sound, jpgs, cutting, etc., but I prefer to use a
software for dummies. Then once I get really into it I'll upgrade to a
 more advanced software.

 Your thoughts?
