RE: Siri and contacts with company names only:

2015-12-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Don,

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that you can't say something like "Call
Apple Accessibility" if you put that in the company field and add the phone
number. Even more stupid is the fact that fgor a while this worked fine, I
always put the company name in the last name field as well as the company
field, then at some point I thought I try this again and I deleted a few of the
company names from the last name field and SIRI made the calls fine.
Unfortunately I can't remember exactly if this was still in iOS 8.4.x or in one
of the earlier 9.x builts. Anyhow, now it does not work again and considering
that despite all it's fancy features and abilities the iPhone after all is
still a cell phone, Apple should be ashamed of themselves. Another pet peev of
mine is that ever since I had my first iPhone 4 in 2010, so for 5 years and
actually I assume this goes back to the very first iPhone, you can filter your
recent call list only by either "All" or "Missed". Why is there not a filter in
addition to those for "Incoming" and "Outgoing" and why is there no custom
filter to search for calls from a particular number or person. Even my old
Windows 6.1 phone in 2007 let you display only incoming or only outgoing calls
in addition to missed calls and all calls. I think with the exception of adding
the ability to send a pre-programmed message when a call comes in the Phone app
itself had very few if any enhancements for many years.

Regards,
Sieghard

A question.

Is there a way to make siri call a contact in my contacts that has nothing in
either the first or last name fields?

It doesn't seem to search the company field which is a tremendous oversite on
Apples part as far as I can see.

Is there a setting I can change to make that happen.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to reply to the same message twice, but in certain apps, such as e-mail

The latest iTunes is seriously confusing me!

2015-12-12 Thread Arianna Sepulveda
I don't know where it went, but a few versions ago, there was a button
that you pressed to change what you were looking at in iTunes, i.e.
songs, albums, etc. If you wanted the most accessible way of viewing
things, you pressed that button until it said songs, then left it
alone. How do I get my nice lists back, where changing something in
one list changed what the other lists showed you? Basically, the
column browser? I have lists now, but they're grids. And there's this
weird love/like stuff in the window--I think it's Apple Music-related.
I need to be able to tell iTunes what kinds of media certain files
are. I can't find anything, and I'm going nuts!

Thanks,
Ari

RE: Playing Personal Content on Sonos

2015-12-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Joe,

That depends which player you have. If it's a Play 1 or Play 3 then the answer
is no since they don't have an input jack. If it's a Play 5 then as Robin said,
you could use a 3.5mm male to male cord to connect the headphone jack of the
iPhone to the 3.5mm input on the Play 5. Of course you would have to first open
the Sonos controller on your phone and select to play from the Line-In port
because otherwise as soon as you plug in the cord into the headset jack you
wouldn't hear Voiceover any more. You can also configure Sonos to auto detect
when you plug something in and to automatically play this source which is an
even better way to do this. The two other players in the Sonos line which have
inputs are the Connect and Connect Amp which both have RCA type inputs so you
need a 3.5mm male to RCA male cable (the one with the red/white ends).

Excellent, thanks for the clarification. Now, would it be possible for the
Sonos speaker to act as a standard speaker whereby it amplifies anything from

Hi Joe,

Are you referring to music when you say "personal content" or do you mean
things like audio books or podcasts you may have saved in MP3 format? As Robin
pointed out, you can link to a music library and this can contain really
anything in MP3 or AAC format (Sonos also supports other formats such as FLAC
etc.). There is also an option to play content from "On this iPhone" and this
would be anything you sync to your phone and that is accessible to the music
app.

Which player do you have? The Play 5 also has the ability to hook up any device
which has a 3.5mm or RCA output.

RE: Ship Rack

2015-12-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If I may suggest an alternative, Parcel has put out a lot of updates and it’s a
really nice package tracking app. It is very accessible and the nice thing is
that there also is a web interface where you can log in and you can
add/remove/edit parcels, see all your parcels which have been delivered and
which are now archived etc. In iOS 9 you can even use the share sheet to send a
tracking number in an email directly to the Parcel app and start a new entry,
if you have a tracking number in the clipboard and tap on “Add” in the app it
will automatically populate the tracking number field with what is in the
clipboard and there is also a barcode scanner and as one of the latest features
Parcel has introduced your own Parcel email which allows you to forward
tracking emails similar to how Ship Rack worked.

Parcel has also already implemented 3D Touch, if you hard press on the app on a
6S or 6S Plus you get shortcuts for adding a new delivery or to open the
barcode scanner.

I believe Parcel costs 99 Cents a year if you want the full functionality with
push notifications and all. But I’d rather pay a bit for a good tracking app so
they hopefully stick around rather than not do so and then have them disappear
like Track This or not update the app to support the latest iOS as seems to be
the case with Ship Rack.

Sieghard

I seem to have a similar problem with Shiprack doing the behavior you described
although I'm not sure exactly what triggers it. The latest instance was after
iOS 9.2 came out even though I'm still running iOS 8.3. I've found uninstalling

occurrences.

Good luck.

Has anyone else experienced this and is there a fix? If not, is there any other
app that will do the same thing? Thanks for any help.

2015-12-12 Thread Andy Baracco
I know that this is an iPhone list, but i believe in keeping things simple when
possible. There is a talking thermostat that actually has physical buttons and
talks all functions. It costs about $150 and can be obtained through

Hi,
Can you use that thermostat in our apartment complex? Because I live in one. If
so I definitely would purchase one of these.

A FollowA Follow-Up to Audible App Playing Audible Books Purchased Directly from iTunes

2015-12-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

A few weeks ago I asked about using the Audible app to play Audible books
already purchased directly from iTunes.

The reason why I posted this question is that, in the beginning, before
there was a VoiceOver accessible Audible app, many people, myself included,
purchased audio books directly from the iTunes store. These books were made
available to Apple via Audible.

As a result, I own many Audible-provided audio books that I purchased
through iTunes and that I enjoy either on my computer or in the iBooks app.

Now, even though the Audible-provided iTunes titles play just fine in
iBooks, it is not possible to navigate them by chapter headings nor can one
insert bookmarks using the iBooks app.

As the now voiceover accessible Audible app provides chapter navigation and
supports bookmarks, my original question was to learn if the Audible app
would treat the iTunes purchased titles the same way it does those purchased
directly from the Audible website.

I now have my answer, said answer consisting of the following:

1.
The titles purchased directly from iTunes are formatted differently from
those purchased directly from Audible.

2.
As of iOS 8.x, there is a well documented Audible app bug that causes the
app to not recognize chapter titles or track titles of any books not
purchased directly from the Audible website. In effect, the app has the
same bug as the original iOS 9.0 version of iBooks had but that was resolved
in iOS 9.1.

3.
Despite the original source, the Audible app treats titles purchased
directly from iTunes as external audio books. As a result, the above
mentioned bug manifests when playing these titles.

4.
After installing the Audible app, I can confirm that while I can set
bookmarks in titles originally purchased directly from iTunes, all of the
chapter headings are listed as Chapter 0, consistent with the known bug.

So, while I think the Audible app offers marvelous functionality to those
currently subscribing to the Audible service, it may not be the best
solution for those of us already owning many audible books purchased
directly from iTunes.

As a side note, Audible has been aware of the above known external audio
book source bug since iOS 8.x and, unlike the developers of the iBooks app,
as yet anyway, has not
Resolved the issue.

RE: Kendals and iTunes cards?

2015-12-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, iTunes cards are good for purchasing apps from the app store or things like
music, movies, books etc. from the iTunes store. However, I know for a fact
that you can buy and send electronic gift cards from Amazon which the recipient
can use to buy Kindle books.

Hi Shawn,
I'm not sure, but I'd imagine, since you have to confirm when you want to
delete something, and it stays in the ID history. But I hope someone can
confirm what happens with different countries.

Hi,
If you have 2 IDS, yes, each of them will get 5 GB on iCloud, since,
essentially, you have 2 accounts.

Hi,
Actually, even if one device supports reade only, you could still make the
female voice. From what I can gather, its essentially different heads, and
pitches. And no, its the same voice, but is using different tags. I got the
note takers to sing before, so if you would like to know more, I can assist
more off list.

Re: Android's assistant for IOS?

2015-12-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I wonder why you say it's Cortana and Siri for now. Cortana will have
the same restrictions as Google Now, since these are restrictions placed
on apps by Apple.

Also, the personal assistant from Google is not Google Voice. Google
Voice is a VOIP offering from Google. Here's the URL for Google voice
https://www.google.com/voice

You can do voice searches and configure the app to respond to "OK google", of course the app has to be open and in the foreground
for this to work. You can also activate the voice search button manually and if you ask something like "Who was the 23rd president of
the United States", "What is the population of China" or whatever is supported, you will get spoken replies as you do with
SIRI. For many questions about popular culture Google Search gives much better answers than SIRI and often where SIRI may say "I found
this on the web about..." Google Voice will come up with a spoken answer. Of course it does not allow you to control your iPhone as in
"Set my alarm for 6 am" or "Text John, I'll be there in 10 minutes" etc.

Sieghard

Re: App To Tell Indoor temperature?

2015-12-12 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Richard,
I think the iPhone should be able to do this, even if it doesn't know it can.
The reason for my thinking this is, when the phone gets too hot it says "iPhone
closing down". my iPhone 4 used to do this regularly when I was sitting in the
sun., It must have an internal thermometer…

just my observations,

I'm pretty sure you can't get that through a download, you have to get it on

Hi,

I'm a guitarist. I'm looking for an accessible app on the iphone to become a
better musician. Does anyone know which app I can use?

The app has to have guitar lessons etc. A lot of apps are made with symbols and
notes, which I think are very difficult for us to read.

RE: Question about iPod Touch 6th Generation and compatible cases

2015-12-12 Thread Richard Turner
Christopher, what is the brand or model of flip case you bought?
Also, how thick is it around the lightning plug? Or, how easy is it to pull it
out of the case? I have the IQ 6 microphone and it doesn't work well with
cases and most of the protective cases I've seen are a pain to remove, so I've
just not bought one for my touch.

Thanks,
Richard

The flip case is made of padded leather. It also protects the back and the

Ship Rack

Since updating to 9.2 ship rack no n=longer operates. When tapping on the

there any other app that will do the same thing? Thanks for any help.

Re: iOS 9.2 update info

2015-12-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't know what version of IOS you're currently running, but IOS 9
will almost certainly be a performance improvement on your 4S. I'm
running IOS 9.2 on a 4S right now. About my only complaint now is the 30
to 40 second hang I get when I reply to an email message. I can get
around this by triple tapping the home button to unload and reload
VoiceOver, but it's still annoying.

Hi Ari,

I have no issues whatsoever answering cals with either a 2-finger double tap or

There was an issue in Ios 9.0.X when using wired headsets but that's been fixed
and I think it was even fixed already in 9.1.

Cara, if I experienced what you describe I would try to close all apps and then
do a Reset Network Settings. Not sure if you have tried this, but if you
haven't give it a shot and if you haven't upgraded to 9.2 yet I would do this
before updating, then once the phone reboots and you are reconnected to your
WiFi network, do the update and hopefully this will really fix most issues you
have been having. One exception of course is that thing where Voiceover goes
silent after replying to an email in a thread, but that is easily fixed with a
triple click of the home butto to turn Voiceover off and again to turn it back
on. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, now that 9.2 is out hopefully many
people here are going to report this again to accessibil...@apple.com.

No, I'm talking about the bug where it's impossible to answer a phone call. VO
won't read any of the buttons. I think there are some workarounds for this bug,
and some versions that aren't as severe. The bug you're describing sounds very
odd, though, and I don't think I've heard of that one as of yet.

Thanks,
Ari

To refresh my memory, which bug is this?

I frequently have an issue where VO will crash when I make a call.

I need to cycle Voiceover off and then on again rapidly, for several times
before it will return.

Once it does, the phone app is then gone from the foreground and if I double
tap in the status bar to bring it back, nothing happens.

The only way to restore the phone app with my current call to the foreground is
to tap on the phone app, and then tap in the status bar to bring the current
call back up.

Needless to say, this is extraordinarily crazy.

Is this the issue people are mentioning?

if so, then it is most certainly not fixed on my phone, which is currently
running 9.1.

I am planning on updating either this evening or tomorrow morning.

Thanks for any feedback on this.

Cheers!

Re: In Sonos, the Trueplay settings button seems to be inaccessible

2015-12-12 Thread Michael Malver
I wonder if they could write code that says something like: if voiceover is on,
Check to see if a headphone it's plugged in.
If no headphone is plugged in, and voiceover is on

Display dialog ("please plug in a headphone without a mic. Quote)
Else
Do whatever the normal true play function is.

I'm pretty sure you can't get that through a download, you have to get
it on cassette.

Hi,

I'm a guitarist. I'm looking for an accessible app on the iphone to
become a better musician. Does anyone know which app I can use?

The app has to have guitar lessons etc. A lot of apps are made with
symbols and notes, which I think are very difficult for us to read.

Do these new headphones confirm Apple’s plans to kill the headphone jack?

2015-12-12 Thread Russ Kiehne
Do these new headphones confirm Apple’s plans to kill the headphone
jack?https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/headphones-confirm-apple-plans-kill-111513373.html

Do these new headphones confirm Apple’s plans to kill the headphone jack?
If the name Audeze doesn’t ring any bells, that’s ok. The high-end headphone
maker isn’t exactly as popular as Beats. But Audeze just made a move that could
be a bellwether for a potentially radical turn for the headphone world — a turn
rumored to be led by Apple — and it might just give the company a serious boost
in recognition. Say hello to the new EL-8 Titanium, an exciting new iteration
on the company’s already revered planar magnetic headphones which includes a
new Apple Lightning connected headphone cable, with a digital audio converter
(DAC) and headphone amplifier built right in.

LINE WEBTOON Superhero Comics Contest

LINE WEBTOON Sponsored

 
Audeze made some big waves last year when its EL-8 headphones lured high-end
planar magnetic designs away from the hi-fi and closer to mobile devices. The
EL-8 quickly became one of our favorite headphones of the year. Now, with the
EL-8 Titanium and their new Lightning cable system, users will be able to
bypass an iPhone’s limited internal components for high-res 24-bit digital
audio playback, and better overall sound, supercharging the iPhone’s street
cred as a quality music player.

For those unfamiliar with planar magnetic headphones, the design uses a thin
membrane excited by a magnet to create sound (as opposed to the cone and coil
design of most headphones), making them notorious power hounds. As such, the
original EL-8 were designed with a new kind of “Fluxor” magnet technology that
focuses voltage towards the drivers in order to allow the cans to work better
with smaller amplifiers — such as those inside mobile devices.

Related: Audeze EL-8 headphone review

With the new Titanium, Audeze aims to innovate mobile listening even further,
bypassing an iPhone’s internal DAC and amplifier entirely by building all the
critical electronics right into the cable itself. When plugging in digitally,
users even have the ability to adjust the EQ and sound presets through the
Audeze app.

By relying only on your phone’s digital output, the EL-8 Titanium are also
compatible with audio files at 24-bit resolution, the starting point for
high-resolution audio files. It should be noted, however, that the resolution
for current iPhone models tops out at 24bit/48kHz, which is higher than
CD-quality files, but lower than the 24bit/96kHz resolution commonly accepted
as hi-res quality.

While most folks listen to lossy MP3s and streaming services for convenience
while on the go, both the DAC and headphone amplifier inside Audeze’s new
Lightning-connected cable should still provide a considerable improvement in
sound quality for Titanium users.

RE: iOS 9.2 update info

2015-12-12 Thread Richard Turner
I am not impressed with the Siri voices on my iPhone 5S for VoiceOver and it
has a better processor than the 4S.
I don't know about iOS 9 on the 4S, someone else will have to address that.

Sieghard, thanks for the detailed response. I'm seriously thinking of upgrading
to iOS now. For my job, it's important for me to be able to answer calls
quickly. I have two last questions. How does 9.2 run on a 4S? And how do the
Siri voices for VO do on a 4S?

I need to reread the thread on getting apps onto the computer in iOS 9.

Thanks,
Ari

RE: How to quickly clear the RAM on a suddenly sluggish iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – MacDailyNews - Welcome Home

2015-12-12 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Christopher and all,
Thanks Christopher for this.

I find the Mac Daily News site a bit messy, so I followed the link to the
original article and am pasting it below along with the link at the end.

How to Quickly Flush the RAM on Your iPhone
David Nield

Apps misbehaving? Phone acting sluggish?
If you’re experiencing any kind of problem with your iPhone, then emptying out
the device’s RAM can often do wonders. It effectively ditches everything the
phone was trying to juggle in its memory at once. Restarting your iPhone is one
way of doing this, but there is a quicker option.
Press and hold the Power button as normal until the familiar “slide to power
off” option appears. Don’t accept the invitation and don’t cancel either:
Instead, press and hold the Home button. After a few seconds you should find
yourself back on the home screen with a fresh slate as far as RAM goes. The
same trick works on the iPad and iPod Touch, of course.
Double-tap on the Home button and you can see all of your recently opened apps
are still there, but the difference is they’ll reload when you tap on them.
It’s not something you should overuse—generally speaking iOS manages memory
better than you can ever hope to—but it’s a handy option to be able to call on
when you need it.

RE: App To Tell Indoor temperature?

2015-12-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sandy,

Some sort of temperature sensor which shuts down the iPhone when it gets too
hot is probably not the same as a thermometer and in any case, the heat the
iPhone produces (even if it doesn’t feel hot) would mean a pretty inaccurate
temperature reading. After all, if my living room is 21.4 degrees then I want
to know it’s 21.4 and not 22.1 or 22.8 and I think it wouldn’t be unreasonable
to assume that it could be a degree or two off.

Regards,

Sieghard

Richard,
I think the iPhone should be able to do this, even if it doesn't know it can.
The reason for my thinking this is, when the phone gets too hot it says "iPhone
closing down". my iPhone 4 used to do this regularly when I was sitting in the
sun., It must have an internal thermometer…

just my observations,
Sandy

There are talking thermometers that can give you inside and/or outside temps.

I believe there is at least one that can communicate with the iPhone through an
app.

Hi,

I'm a guitarist. I'm looking for an accessible app on the iphone to become a
better musician. Does anyone know which app I can use?

The app has to have guitar lessons etc. A lot of apps are made with symbols and
notes, which I think are very difficult for us to read.

Re: Siri and contacts with company names only:

2015-12-12 Thread Tom Lange
Hi Don,
I was wondering the very same thing just yesterday morning; one of my students
needed to add some contacts for our local paratransit services, with the menu
choices preprogrammed in. I set up two nearly identical contact entries, one
called Global Reservations, which he'd use to book rides, and the other called
Global Cancellations, which he'd use for canceling rides or checking on arrival
times. In both cases, I put nothing in either the first or last name fields,
only in the company name and phone number fields. We tested both of them,
saying "dial global reservations" and "dial global cancellations". Both worked
like a champ. I didn't have to do anything in Settings beforehand; they just
worked, and worked very well.
Best regards,
Tom

I’m not sure, but I’ve always just put the company name in the first name
field if I am not calling a specific person. I’ve never thought about just the
company field. I’m not sure why, but I’ve always considered that just a
secondary bit of info on a contact. I would think, though, that one should be
able to use just the company field to make a call to that company.

Siri and contacts with company names only:

2015-12-12 Thread Don Breda

A question.

Is there a way to make siri call a contact in my contacts that has
nothing in either the first or last name fields?

It doesn't seem to search the company field which is a tremendous
oversite on Apples part as far as I can see.

Is there a setting I can change to make that happen.

Thanks in advance.

Subject: Siri and contacts with company names only:

A question.

Is there a way to make siri call a contact in my contacts that has nothing in
either the first or last name fields?

It doesn't seem to search the company field which is a tremendous oversite on
Apples part as far as I can see.

Is there a setting I can change to make that happen.

Thanks in advance.

IOS 9.2 and IPhone 5

2015-12-12 Thread Dan Beaver
Hi,

My experiences so far with 9.2 are less than expected.

I have noticed that in some apps there is a very serious focus bug. For
example, in the AppsGoneFree app it is impossible to swipe right to move
through the days apps. As I swipe right I hear the first ap and then the focus
jumps to the status line at the top of the screen. I have found that I
actually have to page through the apps now instead of swiping. This is not
always certain to work either.

I have seen very severe focus issues in other apps I have too.

I have also seen in some apps that the effort to double tap on some buttons and
the like are useless. Nothing happens which is causing me a great deal of
frustration and loss of function.

Is there a way to go back to IOS 9.0 or maybe even 8.4?

Thanks.

Dan Beaver

You can also buy the VIP3000 from Talking Thermostats that completely talks out

Excellent, thanks for the clarification. Now, would it be possible for the

Re: Playing Personal Content on Sonos

2015-12-12 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Theoretically if you plugged anything into it via a standard 3.5mm 1/8 inch
patch cord from source to its line-in jack and then switched your source to
line-in on its music menu then yes anything that had audio output going into
its auxiliary input jack could be heard through it.

I hope that helps.

that's why I think he said it's either Siri or Cortana.

Re: Do these new headphones confirm Apple’s plans to kill the headphone jack?

2015-12-12 Thread Bill Gallik
I suppose such an event as this may be hardline in a shift in output
connectivity much as the 1/8” jack eventually overwhelmed the 1/4” audio jacks.
Personally, I tend to look forward to innovation — especially when it promises
to offer improvement over the current state of the art.`

A question about bluetooth headsets

2015-12-12 Thread Greg Wocher

Hello everyone,
I am getting an Apple Watch for Christmas and had a quick question about
bluetooth headsets. Are there any out there that I could have paired
both to my iPhone and my watch so that I can use the headset with both
at the same time? If that is not possible is there one I can have paired
to them both and then with a switch I can switch between the two devices?

RE: A question about bluetooth headsets

2015-12-12 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
I'm using my Plantronics Voyager Legend with both. Since the recent OS upgrades
for both the phone and the watch, I am successfully using both together.
Earlier, they hadn't worked as well, but recently I've been quite satisfied.

Some folks like the Plantronics Edge (I think that's what it's called). It's
smaller than the Legend and may have some other advantages. I presume that
would work with both watch and iphone as well.

Thanks.

Re: Ship Rack

2015-12-12 Thread Alan Lemly
I seem to have a similar problem with Shiprack doing the behavior you described
although I'm not sure exactly what triggers it. The latest instance was after
iOS 9.2 came out even though I'm still running iOS 8.3. I've found uninstalling
and reinstalling the Shiprack app fixes this problem for me in past
occurrences.

Good luck.

I'm running 8.4 on my 4S. I can deal with the freezing; although it'll be
annoying, I'm glad to hear that unloading and reloading VoiceOver helps with
that.

I frequently have an issue where VO will crash when I make a call.

I need to cycle Voiceover off and then on again rapidly, for several times
 before it will return.

Once it does, the phone app is then gone from the foreground and if I
double tap in the status bar to bring it back, nothing happens.

The only way to restore the phone app with my current call to the
foreground is to tap on the phone app, and then tap in the status bar to
bring the current call back up.

Needless to say, this is extraordinarily crazy.

Is this the issue people are mentioning?

if so, then it is most certainly not fixed on my phone, which is currently
 running 9.1.

I am planning on updating either this evening or tomorrow morning.

Thanks for any feedback on this.

 Cheers!

Which Honey well thermometer is that?

In order to simply search the Chicago Lighthouse catalog you have to sign up.
Not interested in doing that.

Re: IOS 9.2 and IPhone 5

2015-12-12 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Have you tried clearing the ram, with the suggestion posted earlier today? If
you have not, give it a try and see if things improve. In case you didn't read
the earlier post, get to one of your home screens, then hold in the power
button until it says power off. Instead of tapping the power off button on the
screen, hold down the home button for a few seconds, until your phone comes
back on.

I have also seen in some apps that the effort to double tap on some buttons
and the like are useless. Nothing happens which is causing me a great deal of
frustration and loss of function.

Is there a way to go back to IOS 9.0 or maybe even 8.4?

  Thanks.

Re: How to quickly clear the RAM on a suddenly sluggish iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – MacDailyNews - Welcome Home

2015-12-12 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Thanks for posting this. I don't know that it really is, but I think it
would be, shall we say, a less stressful event to the phone than having to
restart, or having to go through that hard reset. I especially will use it
when MBraille sometimes gets to where I am making a lot more errors than
usual as I type, even though it really isn't me. Clearing the ram in this
way seems to get MBraille back to normal, even more thoroughly than removing
it from the app switcher and restarting it.

How to quickly clear the RAM on a suddenly sluggish iPhone, iPad, and iPod
touch

“Apps misbehaving? Phone acting sluggish?” David Nield reports for
Gizmodo. “If you’re experiencing any kind of problem with your iPhone,
then emptying out the device’s RAM can often do wonders.”
“Restarting your iPhone is one way of doing this, but there is a quicker
option,” Nield reports.

“Press and hold the Power button as normal until the familiar ‘slide to
power off’ option appears,” Nield reports. “Don’t accept the invitation
and don’t cancel either: Instead, press and hold the Home button. After a
few seconds you should find yourself back on the home screen with a fresh
slate as far as RAM goes.”

In the full article, Nield credits @MarcForrest
 for this
useful tip, here
.

MacDailyNews Note: Make sure to use this tip after you’ve unlocked your
device. If you try it from the lock screen, you’ll just invoke Siri.

[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “Fred Mertz” for the heads up.]
