Re: [WAMUG] Printer Advice please

2023-03-03 Thread Daniel Kerr via WAMUG
Hi Rod

I can definitely recommend the Epson EcoTank series - I sell a lot of them to
my clients and find them very good.
(And we run two at home - one specifically for photo printing and one for “day
to day stuff”. It replaced my colour epson laser I had. And the running cost is
very cheap. On one set of refillable inks you can get up to 2 years of printing.
And the bottles are only around $25 each colour - and again last up to 2 years
of printing. And I’ve always found the Epson range to be reliable and kept up
to date with drivers.
Any of the entry level Ecotnaks should do - eg something like ET -1810 or
ET-2810/2811 would be fine.
Note that some of the cheaper models don’t have AirPrint (they have “wireless
printing direct” which requires another App if you want to print from your
iPhone or iPad (not as “easy” as Airprnt).
Then it just depends on features you want - eg do you want it to have a screen
on it for ease of copying, flatbed scanning versus ADF (Automatic Document
Feeder) etc,…..
So more features can cost a bit more up front obviously.

Hope that helps.
Kind regards
Daniel

Re: Printer to NBN router

2019-11-22 Thread Neil Houghton
Hi Jennifer,

You asked this question back on the 14th and Ronni suggested this site:

https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Modems-Hardware/Canon-printer-not-wirelessly-connecting-to-new-TELSTRA-router/td-p/541786

which shows quite a few people having similar problems and a couple of
solutions that worked for some:

Solution 1)

I just got connected today with nbn and having same issue connecting to the
printer. Then i worked out what i was doing wrong,. Try the following if you
havent yet.

Go to wlan setting on printerlook for where it says to connect access
point. You then have to hold the "Pair" Button on front of the modem while you
sel ok on the printer. Hold the "Pair Button to printer says all is connected.
Hope this helps.

Solution 2)

had the same problem with my canon printer.

Here's what I did.

On the printer I scrolled through and clicked on WLAN

then wireless Lan setup ok

then red stop button for other setup option

then other setup ok

then Advanced set up ok

I was then able to select my Telstra access point ok

then the security settings there was only one setting in white letters so I
scrolled down to that ok

then I put in the password that was on my new gateway and then ok and then the
problem was solved.

I can print and scan to my heart's content.

sorry this is not very technical but if you follow the steps it will work and
you don't have to reinstall your rpinter.

I’m not sure if you missed Ronni’s suggestion or if you have already tried all
these with no success?

HTH

Cheers

Neil

Good morning all,

Is there a way of making this new printer (Epson XP-442) work with an older
iMac G4 with OS 10.4.11 ?
Epson tell me there is no driver for this iMac.

Thanks,

No worries enjoy the new printer!
I’m sure others on this site can give more details on VueScan than I.

2017-10-13 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi Peter.

I have not come across VueScan.
If they write their own drivers perhaps it would be OK.

But I now have a new Epson printer so quite happy.
The Epson scanning software is more user friendly than my older Cannon anyway.
It also uses less space on my desk and has a 100 sheet paper cartridge (that I
never had).

Hi folks.

The above Printer is in perfect condition.
But will no longer scan for Macs using High Sierra.
Canon confirmed that they no longer update drivers for this model.
So if you are not updating to High Sierra it is no problem.

It is complete with original Software Disks.
I also have an unused Colour Cartridge to go with it.

2017-09-28 Thread Stephen Chape
Hi folks,

Just got this reply from Canon.
So I will be buying a new printer very soon.
It has done well for my last 3 iMacs, so no complaints.

Dear Stephen,
Thank you for contacting Canon Australia.

Due to a number of factors including design, requirements and age of the
printer, there is no driver suitable for the and your operating system (Mac
10.13 High sierra). We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this has
caused.

Printer set up

2017-02-24 Thread Jennifer Lefroy
Since upgrading to Sierra on my iMac, my printer is not connected. It is a
Cannon TS5060. I have tried unsuccessfully to set up for Sierra, with
wireless connection. It gets as far as Step 2 "searching for printer on
network" and then reverts to the Printer selection list. I have checked
that the correct printer is selected in Preferences.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

My Canon MP560 is still going strong after many years of use - and takes the

I would be interested - please reply off-line if they are still available.

Re: Photo Printer, Photoshop & Ancient Mac

2017-02-18 Thread Diana & Graham Stevens
Hi Daniel

Thanks for all the information.

The SC-600 has high-capacity cartridges which are expensive and we do not print
large numbers of photos. I shall probably stick with my original idea, the
SC-450.

The 2100 cartridges have already been claimed.

Best wishes from Diana

Re: Photo Printer, Photoshop & Ancient Mac

2017-02-18 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Diana

I’ve got a client with the SC-P600 (from memory) and he’s very happy with it.
They are quite a good printer. I supplied that model to another client as well.
I still find the Epson range very good. So although I haven’t had any personal
experience myself directly, I know a couple people with them that are happy
with them.

The WiFI printing works well, and you can connect the printer direct to the
modem with Ethernet as well. This can sometimes be a bit more reliable.
(You may be able to still print to it from the G4 via Print Sharing or
similar,…but without drivers for the older OS, it may be a little more
difficult).

Java to install for CS4 on the 10.8.5 machine isn’t too bad. I’ve done it for a
few clients using the Apple link and it was pretty easy. (as another option).

Hope that info helps.

Kind regards
Daniel

Photo Printer, Photoshop & Ancient Mac

2017-02-18 Thread Diana & Graham Stevens
My Epson Stylus Photo 2100 has given up and I would like to replace it. There
are so many possibilities it is hard to chose, if anyone can suggest a suitable
replacement I would be grateful. The Epson SureColor SC-P405 looks about
equivalent, does anyone have experience with this model?

My choice is complicated by the fact that the 2100 has been attached to my old
G4 Quicksilver on which I run Adobe CS1 in OS 10.3. This is quite adequate for
my requirements. There are of course no Printer Drivers for ancient OS so the
new Printer will not be connected to the G4. I expect it will be connected to
the Network via WiFi and all our computers will be able to access it (including
the G4 which is connected via Ethernet).

Otherwise I shall need to do something about Photoshop and my usage is not
regular enough to justify a monthly subscription. Photoshop Elements does not
do enough. I did buy a second-hand copy of CS3 to run on my MacBook Pro (OS
10.8.5) but it requires Java which I have been loth to install.

I had just purchased a new set of the 7 ink cartridges. If anyone would like
them for free I shall retrieve them from Well Connected. I had hoped it was
just the switch which was faulty so I wasted $150 on a diagnosis (mother
board). It is possible one may be available but it will cost as much as a new
printer and no warranty.

Before I abandon the repair path I would like reassurance that a WiFi connected
Network Printer will work. If any one has comments on any of this please let me
know.

Re: Epson printer network visibility

2015-09-15 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi all, with Ronni’s help again off list Ronni (with permission) reviewed my
printer status report. The report indicated that the bonjour service was not
enabled. Ronni indicated this should be enabled. Once on the trail I was able
to go into the Epson Netconfig software and browse to the TCP/IP area and
select the “Bonjour” enable option. A few minutes later I was printing ok. I
have also been able to AirPrint for iOS devices. I am yet to set up a Scan
wirelessly back to a folder or MBP. Will work through the User Manual to
configure that.

I am unclear on why the bonjour service became disabled following the
decommissioning of my previous Epson printer but it’s a tip to verify when any
of you are setting up a new printer. Was very frustrating to be able to know it
was connected to the Network, could Cloud print ok, but not simple config over
the network.

Pete.

Re: Epson printer network visibility

2015-09-13 Thread Peter Crisp
Hi Ronni, back home now. Incidentally while I was in Albany I tested my MBP on
Sev’s network and straight up it spotted his Fuji printer in my “Add” panel.

So on my MBP and my wife's MBP I have fully run through the Epson installation
process each time it completed successfully and said “go to System Preferences
and select Printers and Scanners and then “+””. So I do that and the Add panel
on both MBP is blank - no printer showing at all. I have verified at the
printer that it has a healthy network connection and this is confirmed (Also
turned OFF then ON again twice). Also independently verified by Epsonconnect
print jobs getting to the printer successfully from the internet.

It’s got me stumped why it doesn’t show.

The printer seems fine, the MBP’s seem fine the network config could be flawed
preventing the visibility but I have no idea where to go next. Especially
curious as my previous Epson was fine on the network and easily visible.
Network settings have not changed at all.

Any tips appreciated.

Pete...

Re: Epson printer network visibility

2015-09-13 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Peter,

You're sure you have the latest Printer drivers installed?

Epson WF-4630 Series.
Is the Wi-Fi icon ON the product's control panel?
Your Airport Wireless Network is a Dual-Band 5GHz & 2.5GHz?

When you click on " [+] then 'Add Printer or Scanner' , does it open up the
Default window - Name: Location: Use:?
Can you type the Epson Printer name in Search field and find the Printer that
way?
Can you Add the Printer using its IP Address or Name?
And you have 'Printer Sharing' turned ON in System Preferences > Sharing?
Does the Epson printer show in Sharing under Printers:?

On your Printer LCD settings - Print a Network Status sheet.
If it's similar to my Epson TX810FW
1. Enter the Setup mode.
2. Select Network Settings.
3. Select Confirm Network Settings
4. Confirm the connection status. If you want to print status sheet, press
Start.
That will show you the Network settings details and give you a clue.

Have you tried 'Reset' the entire print system? Sometimes it’s necessary to
reset the entire printing system.
From the Printers & Scanners preferences, use secondary (Control-click) in the
printers list (left panel), and choose “Reset printing system” from the
shortcut menu.
Click OK in the verification dialog.
Next you’ll have to authenticate as an administrative user.

This clears all configured devices, shared settings, custom presets, and queued
print jobs.
While this may seem drastic, it’s likely to clear up any software-related
printing issues.

Then try to Add the Epson WF-4630 Series printer.

Cheers,
Ronni

Thanks Ronni, see comments alongside below.
You're sure you have the latest Printer drivers installed? I figured
when I did the online installation and registration the driver update
would have occured. I suppose it's possible that didn't happen so will
ensure tonight.Epson WF-4630 Series. Is the Wi-Fi icon ON the
product's control panel? YesYour Airport Wireless Network is a
Dual-Band 5GHz & 2.5GHz? Yes - on the LCD panel for the printer, the
network SSID appears twice with both ticked.
When you click on " [+] then 'Add Printer or Scanner' , does it open
up the Default window - Name: Location: Use:? When I click the "+",
the Add window opens up. There are no printers listed in the Default
window. Can you type the Epson Printer name in Search field and find
the Printer that way? Not tried this but I will. Can you Add the
Printer using its IP Address or Name? Yes, In the IP screen I can add
it that way and then it will print - however the IP gets reassigned
whenever network rebooted - usually for non related reasons. And you
have 'Printer Sharing' turned ON in System Preferences > Sharing? Not
sure - will check tonight.Does the Epson printer show in Sharing under
Printers:? Will check tonight.
On your Printer LCD settings - Print a NETWORK STATUS SHEET.If it's
similar to my Epson TX810FW1. Enter the Setup mode.
2. Select Network Settings.
3. Select Confirm Network Settings
4. Confirm the connection status. If you want to print status sheet,
press Start. That will show you the Network settings details and give
you a clue. Yes, I did this and it all appeared good - no errors
noted, IP was assigned OK, SSID was correctly noted. Will review again
tonight.
Have you tried 'Reset' the entire print system? Sometimes it’s
necessary to reset the entire printing system. Yes,I did this as well
last night to no avail. From the Printers & Scanners preferences, use
secondary (Control-click) in the printers list (left panel), and
choose “RESET PRINTING SYSTEM” from the shortcut menu. Click OK
in the verification dialog. Next you’ll have to authenticate as an
administrative user.
This clears all configured devices, shared settings, custom presets,
and queued print jobs. While this may seem drastic, it’s likely to
clear up any software-related printing issues.
Then try to Add the Epson WF-4630 Series printer. After the reset, I
tried this again, from my own and my wifes MBP, again with no
visibility.
There are some new things to try in what you provided here, thanks
again Ronni for detailed items on this. I hope I sort it tonight - I'm
sure the printer wont work if I end up tossing it into the pool! Just
kidding.

Pete...

Hi Peter,

I assume you followed the initial setup instructions for the Epson WF-4630
workforce multifunction printer.

In System Preferences > Printers & Scanners - you select the product name that
you want to connect, and then select the Epson product name on the Use menu -
then click Add
The printer driver is automatically downloaded by the Apple Software Updater.

The first thing to try is turn OFF the printer and then Turn if ON again to see
if it connects and your Mac can find it.

What have you tried?
Have you checked the Printer's diagnostic screen - Network settings?

Epson printer network visibility

2015-09-10 Thread Peter Crisp
I had to retire my trust Epson printer from 2009 and I got another Epson
printer. Has some good features WF-4630 model. Anyway I went through the
process and it connects to the wireless network no problem and I can print via
the cloud registered service now but I cannot see it on the network via the Sys
prefs>Printers window. I press the “+” to add a printer and it does not report
in the window. If I select “Window” it goes to workgroups and then I see the
printer name, I select and then nothing more happens (after entering password
naturally).

So I can print via the cloud and using the great Epson app - but can’t do the
most basic thing of printing directly to the network. It seems like a network
protocol issue preventing visibility but I am unsure how to resolve.

Anyone else have this issue or tips to resolve?

Re: Colour Laser Printer

2015-02-21 Thread Tim Law
Peter you can buy awfully cheap colour lasers now - I bought one at Office
Works for a few hundred dollars for a business I work at. It prints probably 30
sheets a day and is reliable. It just plugged into my Mac via USB, and also
runs off the wireless network. It does not do automatic double sided, but if
you are only doing a few copies, you could reload them manually I would think.

thing. When installing the Driver software, the USB cable between the printer
and iMac must be disconnected . I originally forgot about this and your
instructions reminded me of this when you mentioned to try Instruction 1 -
Power OFF Unplug the power cable. This set my memory synapses going!

I suppose that having reset the printing system is what sorted my problem. When
I think that I was about to go to Office Works to purchase another printer
thinking the printer, which was unused for close to 12 months, had failed. Now,
‘she who must be obeyed’ will be happy ...

Looks like this might be your first success for 2015 on the WAMUG list and many
thanks.

Best regards to you and all WAMUG’gers,

Hi Philippe,

It's good to hear your printer problem is solved. Yes, I was fairly sure you
would need to do Steps 3 and 4 to solve the issue.
I also should have mentioned to make sure you disconnect the Printer if you
found you needed to install a new Printer Driver.

Ah no, its not my first success for 2015 on WAMUG. -actually my 5th I think ;-)

Printer Connection

2013-08-14 Thread Jennifer Lefroy
Good Morning ,

We have a Canon MP 600 printer which is cable connected to the desktop OS X
10.8.4 running Mountain Lion. Our lap top until recently would remotely
connect to the printer. Now its print jobs do not print and do not show up
in the print queue when I look at system preferences. However, when I go
to print something from the desktop, the jobs from the laptop print out
first.

Might this be the printer which is probably more than five years old and
also is unreliable for scanning, or does anyone have other suggestions,
please?

Re: Printer Connection

2013-08-14 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Jennifer

One thing to try is to delete the printer on both machines (System Preferences
- Print Scan - highlight the printer and use the minus (-) sigh to remove. ).
Once deleted add the printer back on your iMac then make sure you can print
again.
Then in System Preferences - Sharing. Untick and re-tick Printer sharing to
reactivate it.

Then on the laptop add back the shared printer in System Preferences - Print
Scan. Then see how the print job goes.

Try that and see how goes.

If the printer is on the way out though, then possibly cheaper to buy a new one

One thing to try is to delete the printer on both machines (System
Preferences - Print Scan - highlight the printer and use the minus (-)
 sigh to remove. ).
Once deleted add the printer back on your iMac then make sure you can
 print again.
Then in System Preferences - Sharing. Untick and re-tick Printer sharing
 to reactivate it.

Then on the laptop add back the shared printer in System Preferences -
Print Scan. Then see how the print job goes.

Try that and see how goes.

If the printer is on the way out though, then possibly cheaper to buy a
new one then try to fix. (Epson make some great fully wireless

We seem to have a Stylewriter 1200 (with manual even!) under the bench. There

I am not sure if it works, but it probably does. I have no idea if we have a

Re: Blocked printer nozzle

2012-11-20 Thread Ronni Brown
Hi Merv,

I'm pleased you have got a good result; as just taking an Epson Printer to an
Epson Service centre costs normally $100-$200.
Which makes it not really a viable solution, normally better option is to buy a
new Epson MF Printer.
Especially when you have to travel from down south to Perth as I do :(
There used to be only one Epson Service Centre and it was in Wembley I think.

Yes, 'head cleaning' uses quite a bit of ink. I found on my previous Epson
TX700W MF using the 'Printer Control Panel' Setup Maintenance Head
Cleaning does a more thorough job of cleaning the print heads if the Utility
doesn't fix things.
I have not had to clean the Print Heads on my current Epson TX810FW.

My next suggestion if my previous suggestions did not solve the problem, was to
check what message is displayed on the TX600FW 'Control Panel'.

Good outcome for you anyway.

Cheers,
Ronni

It had been low so I suppose the head cleaning episodes drained it.
Replaced the Magenta and waited for the reload testing procedure.
Did a nozzle check and all the colours appeared.

Yes, I agree that in theory the printer should work exactly as you say; the
same as it does in Windows.
But sometimes it is not that easy to setup to always use the Windows

mentions don't work properly in OS X).

We require more info on the HP Printer, model number driver version etc,
currently used in what version of Windows? Then check if that model does
work correctly in Parallels Desktop using the drivers installed in Windows
 VM.

As we know Windows is strange at the best of times... Very strange :-)

The easiest option might be simply to delete the printer entirely from the
Mac OS X setup, and install the Windows driver and print from Parallels. I
have a clint who has been running this setup successfully for years in her
real estate office, which has a Panasonic Copier for which there are no Mac
drivers at all. Printing directly from windows using Virtual Box (and now
VMWare Fusion) has always worked perfectly. I see no reason why Parallels
 would be any different.

My main tip for Tim: if you plan following up the virtualisation path, set up
your Mac's Home Folder as a shared folder in Windows. This way there is no
need to fiddle around with copying files, etc, because you are using exactly
the same files you have already created on the Mac side. Much more efficient.

Parallels and printer drivers

2012-06-14 Thread Tim law
Hello

I've a friend who has a fully Mac house/business, apart from one PC.

She has one old but good large capacity HP A3 duplex laser printer she wants to
keep, but the Mac OSX drivers do not allow her to use the full capacity of the
printer features as she requires. Consequently she has to keep one her PC
functional that simply runs the drivers for the HP printer. She sends all her
print jobs to the PC in PDF format, then uses the PC to print them. This is
effective, but tiresome and painful.

She has a new Mac Mini, fully loaded with RAM and twin 256gb SSD hard drives as
her main computer.

My question is:
If I load Parallels and Windows, with the HP printer drivers, onto her Mac
Mini, will Parallels always use the HP drivers when she is printing? Is there a
reasonable prospect the printer will behave and communicate with Windows on the
Mac in the same way it communicates now with the PC box?

Obviously she will need to open the document in Acrobat reader using Windows
but the aim is to get rid of her PC and reclaim office space.

Options for finding better Mac drivers for the HP have been explored, this
query is about using an emulator and how it will perform with printer drivers
in situations like this.

Thanks

Re: Parallels and printer drivers

2012-06-14 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Tim

Parallels will normally use the Mac driver to print from. However if you tell
it use the dedicated Windows driver then it should work fine and override
that setting.
So therefor in theory it should run fine, the same as it does in Windows itself

Kind regards
Daniel

I'm not so sure that it will use the Windows installed drivers.
Parallels Desktop for Mac is designed to work with printers that require USB

If your printer is more than 5 years old, it may not work with Parallels

Re: Parallels and printer drivers

2012-06-14 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Ronni

For a network printer you can advise it to not use the Mac printer, but to
override it and use the default printer. I've done that for a couple of clients
and had it working fine. (Perhaps it was an older version though, I'll need to
double check).
But I just installed the Windows software itself then set it up. Windows went
through like normal and then created the drives, and away it went. Printing
fine.

But yes, perhaps it's one of those hit and miss ones, where it depends on the
version, the printer itself, and the setup/drivers. :o) lol
Windows is strange at the best of times,…..lol :)

Kind regards

Re: Parallels and printer drivers

2012-06-14 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Daniel,

Yes, I agree that in theory the printer should work exactly as you say; the
same as it does in Windows.
But sometimes it is not that easy to setup to always use the Windows drivers,
it reverts to default trys to use the Mac drivers (which Tim mentions don't
work properly in OS X).

We require more info on the HP Printer, model number driver version etc,
currently used in what version of Windows? Then check if that model does work
correctly in Parallels Desktop using the drivers installed in Windows VM.

As we know Windows is strange at the best of times... Very strange :-)

The easiest option might be simply to delete the printer entirely from the Mac
OS X setup, and install the Windows driver and print from Parallels. I have a
clint who has been running this setup successfully for years in her real estate
office, which has a Panasonic Copier for which there are no Mac drivers at all.
Printing directly from windows using Virtual Box (and now VMWare Fusion) has
always worked perfectly. I see no reason why Parallels would be any different.

My main tip for Tim: if you plan following up the virtualisation path, set up
your Mac's Home Folder as a shared folder in Windows. This way there is no need
to fiddle around with copying files, etc, because you are using exactly the
same files you have already created on the Mac side. Much more efficient.

How is your printer connected: USB or Ethernet? When you go to System
Preferences Print Scan does the Xerox printer show in the list of devices?
If so, the driver is probably working. You can confirm this by clicking the
Options and Supplies... button and then the Driver tab. Your printer driver
will show in the Print Using: menu in the Driver pane.

If you don't see your printer in the list of devices in Print Scan then you
most likely have a communication problem, but without knowing more about your
setup it's not possible to speculate just what that might be.

Re: Samsung printer

2012-05-12 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi John,

I don't really know about Samsung Laser Printers, but as no-one has suggested
anything.

Is the Online/Error light RED or just ON?

If it is RED.
Have you checked:
Is there is a Paper Jam
Front Cover is open
Paper Tray is empty
The Toner Cartridge is out of Toner

If no RED light but on blinking
You could have pressed the cancel button while the printer was receiving data.
Is there paper in the Manual Feed Tray?

I'm sure you have tried all the above and disconnected the power cable,
connected the power cable and restarted the Printer numerous times.

Cheers,
Ronni

you most likely will experience problems.

when to stop printing on a cartridge. The printer will get to a
certain point and then refuse to continue printing using the spent
cartridge. There is at that point sufficient ink in the cartridge
to ensure there is no damage to the print head.

For the second query my opinion is a decisive no. What makes Epson
superior is the research they have put into their colour ink. As a
market leader there is really a vast difference between what Epson
supplies and the coloured water of the knock-offs. There is a vast
amount of literature on the progression of ink technology and it is
really impressive stuff. The colourfast nature and resistance to
fading of high quality inkjet printers has no surpassed most other
technologies. The other factor to consider is that the official ink
has just the right consistency and correct proportions of particles
so as not to block the printhead. If because of using compatible
inks you have to replace the printhead just once in the life of the
printer, you have probably lost all the savings that would have
accrued from the ink. Also, every photo you have printed to that
point is printed in inferior ink that has lesser colour definition
and that will fade more quickly.

Enough ranting, but that is my two bits worth. :-)

Has anyone a recommendation for a laser colour printer that doesn't break the

Fwd: I need a Printer answer

2012-02-15 Thread Peter Faulks
My Canon ip4300 printer has crashed with the flashing lights of doom!
meaning the print head is US, so I need to purchase a new printer
that can replace this - I need to print CD's so if anyone has a
suggestion of what is good for Macs preferably wireless I would
appreciate a reply.

Took printer into Can-Calc in Vic Park (443 Albany Highway) cost to
repair $340.00 (no way)

Report:- With cheap ink replacements, the inks dry out and
subsequently when you do not use the printer very often the ink that
has dried out gets sucked into the print head and causes this to
overheat and eventually burns out the print head. Mine has actually
caused the mother board to become damaged and this now also needs
replacing. (Apparently original ink cartridges do not dry out)

It was cheaper to purchase a new printer = So I worked out the
following costs-

Cost of Inkjet Printer (Canon IP4950 from Canon Calc $129) -
probably cheaper if I shop around.
Cost of colour laser Printer (Brother HL3040CN from Harvey Norman
special $148)

Printing 100 pages per week cost per cartridge
Inkjet 5200 pages per year at 225 pages per cartridge means I need
23.1 cartridges per year at say $30 per cartridge at total cost per
cartridge of $693.33 per year per cartridge.

Printing 100 pages per week cost per cartridge
Laser 5200 pages per year at 900 pages per cartridge means I need
5.78 cartridges per year at say $99 per cartridge at a total cost
per cartridge of $572.00 per year per cartridge.

Of course some laser printers can cost much more but shopping around
the Brother colour laser seems a good buy, although it was not
wireless (Wireless Brother HL3075CW was $386.00)

Finally if I need four (4) cartridges and I am requiring 23.1 per
year or almost one per month at $30 then I am paying $120 per month
for 4 cartridges alone! It seems to me I might just purchase 12 new
Canon IP4950 printers at $129 each (possibly cheaper by the dozen!)
and throw away each printer when it runs out of ink!

Of course my calculations are fairly basic but it seems the cheap
ink-jets can actually be expensive options.

My brain hurts

Re: I need a Printer answer

2012-02-15 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi Peter
Just driving at the moment so can't write a lot, but have a look at the new
Epson workforce range.
They are inkjet printers that boast quality and cost is very similar to laser
printer.
Pretty sure they are called the workforce range but will clarify more later
tonight with a larger email.

Worth a look at and the Epson range are great printers. I use and sell them all
the time myself and for clients.

Kind regards
Daniel

 appreciate a reply.

 Hi Peter John,

Everytime this question is asked on WAMUG the response seems to be fairly
consistent that Epson are the most recommended.
Epson I have found are the most compatible with Macs. They seem to update
their drivers quicker to support new Operating Systems than others.

I currently have an Epson TX810FW purchased in May 2010 and it has worked
faultlessly in Snow Leopard and Lion.
I have always used Epson Printers and I recommend Epson Printers because my
personal experience has been very good.

My Epson TX810FW is Wireless Network, no cables anywhere (other than a power

I echo Ronni's comments re Epson. I have an SP1290Silver and an SP R2880 which
both perform faultlessly and are always updated with drivers by Epson. These
are both higher end artwork printers and I use a Fuji-Xerox C525A laser for
secretarial type stuff.
