Hi Norm
I don't understand your objection. A company is only 'atomic' if it is a
singular unit for all attributes, including permissions. If it is not, then
you need to consider the organizational sub-units that ARE atomic as your
'company' records.
In all likelihood, if you are dealing with

I think, perhaps, folks are misunderstanding my use of the term
atomic. Atomic, from a database design perspective, means cannot be
broken down any further.
For example, if you have a customer record and put one field on it to
capture the customer's entire address, that field is NOT atomic. That

I am looking for documentation on the .Def format...to be able to decode
it similar to what Misi has in this utility.
I searched the list and the pdfs (v7.x). Is this info posted somewhere?

No, not really!
You can slowly figure things out by simultaneously looking at the def-file
and the ar.h-file in the API.
The XML-definitions are easier. Unfortunately, they tend to become huge.

Would anyone out there have notes they would be willing to share? I
would like to create a Class (in .net) that could be used to decode
these values so that it could be added to any ARS API .Net project.

Stephen,
Uh... why not use the API to get the values?
The def file format ( def or xml ) is not guaranteed in any way shape
or form. BMC could choose to encrypt the objects at the ARS server
before shipping the object back to the client API. Or they could just
radically change the file format
I want to be able to use a .def file as input.

You could always create a separate mailbox and set up an Outlook rule to

Also include the new mailbox in the BCC field for all outgoing emails. That
might work OK and would also keep the Remedy mailbox light and

Hi Rick
I believe it is a setting on your Outlook account, rather than the Remedy Email
engine. there is an option to save the messages or delete them once they have
been downloaded.
hope this helps!

Break the Rules, Forgive Quickly, Kiss Slowly, Love Truly, Laugh
This is how we toss responses to notifications to the mailbox where
Rem-Mail processes them - we use a rule in Outlook to redirect them to
the other mailbox, then delete them.
To retain Sent Mail you may have to add the line to the
EmaiDaemon.properties file:
com.remedy.arsys.emaildaemon.your
7.0 has that option to delete, but that just controls whether the items are
deleted from the Email Messages form - NOT Outlook.
Or are you saying that the setting has a dual purpose - keeping them in the
form deletes them from Outlook, and vice versa?

Hi everyone,
Upgraded to ARS v7.0.1P2 last Wednesday. Went remarkably well, although we
didn't attempt to do Approval, Assignment or Flashboards at this time. We
did do the mail engine which we haven't done anything with.
Since we upgraded near two times a day (except Sat/Sun) the threads to
Susan, I would look at interactions between Remedy and other applications
and/or plugins with things like LDAP. If your plugins were locking up
threads (i.e. waiting for connection or response, timing out, etc.), it
seems like that would cause your thread count to increase.
