Re: AR System 7.5 and ITSM 7.6 Upgrade Effort Estimates

2010-04-28 Thread DCI Remedy
Jiri,

I've done a similar upgrade from ARS 7.1 to 7.5.3 and CMDB 2.1 to 7.6.
You'll should do this in phases. Better check the upgrade path from 7.0.1
to 7.5, I've had to first do the necessary patches (pereqs) before I could
upgrade ARS to 7.5.3. Plus the necessary patches for CMDB and ITSM before
you go to 7.6. In a SQL 2005 environment which was server grouped, it took
about 3 hours to do the necessary patching of ARS and CMDB and ITSM
(IM/PM/CM/SLM). To do the jump to ARS 7.5.3 (at a later date) it took about
an hour, actually it was less than that, but once you take account for
backup and testing and everything else included in an implementation
plan. The jump to CMDB 7.6.1 took about 3 hours. ITSM 7.6 upgrade took
about 5 hours on a VM sandbox with 4GB of RAM and a 2.0 processor. Haven't
rolled out to production yet.

You should also rollout the 7.5.x WUT. For developers, you will need to
familiarize yourself with the new Developer Studio. As for EndUser
training, you can choose NOT to use the Best Practice Views until you have
trained them accordingly.

That should give you a rough estimate. Hope that helps.

Hi,

I have been tasked to provide some effort estimates for upgrading our Remedy
environment from ARS 7.0.1 to 7.5 and ITSM applications from 7.0.1 to 7.6
(including CMDB upgrade).

I was wondering if anybody who have been through a similar upgrade could
share their experience.

Would be interesting to know not only time spent on the Remedy technical
side, but also what re-training was required/given to users and what other
technical/non-technical resources you had to use during the upgrade.

Thanks

Anne

We attempted to install compatibility patch 7000 but it failed. I have to
dig up the logs to to find out why. I can only assume that the Atrium 7.6
upgrade addressed any issues that patch 7000 would have resolved.

We went LIVE with Atrium 7.6 in December and haven't encountered any issues
with ITSM 7.0.3 as a result of the upgrade.

Hope this helps.

Just like Frank said.

If your filter fired, you can go to your AR Email Messages for and see an
entry in there for your notification. It will probably be addressed to
your Support Group Name. The notification engine will not resolve the
Support Group name to an email address.

That being said, there should already be notifications OOB that handle this.

If that is the case then you have to use the Group ID for the group called
Assigned Group. This would be the Group ID value from Groups form, not the
SPG ID from the Support Group form.

Looks like you deleted BMC_ComputerSystem. Did you take a DB backup before
you made the change? Cause you could restore from that.

I'm assuming you're atleast on CMDB 2.1 and have done this on your dev
environment, so you could try exporting the class definition for Computer
System from your Prod environment using the cmdbdriver utility. Read up on
the utility in the CMDB Admin guide. When you launch the utility, you'll
need to run the 'init' command and then 'log' to login.

To export the class def use the xexpdf command, it will prompt you:

Export all classes? (F):

Classes to export:

  Namespace (): BMC.CORE

  Class name (): BMC_ComputerSystem

Then on your dev env, import the def

Command: impdf

DEFINITION IMPORT

Import Item List:

Import option : Create/Overwrite (1-2) (1): 2

You might might need to run the Update Asset UI after the import is done to
resync with the AST form. You data should still be there on the Base

Hope this helps

Atrium Core Console 7.5/7.6 bug? - Client Tool VS Midtier

2010-01-18 Thread DCI Remedy
Hello listers.

Has anyone running Atrium 7.5 or 7.6 encounter this yet? Not sure if you
will see the attached screenshot.

When I access Atrium through the client tool and try to do a menu selection,
it doesn't take when I click on a selection. However, if I use my cursor
keys it works. I don't have this issue on midtier. (I'm steering business
to use the midtier regardless).

Also, does anyone know how to get the console to resize to the full window
on the client like it does on midtier? I know I could just resize the
field, but I was wondering if there was a 'resize to screen' type option.

 Hello listers.

Has anyone running Atrium 7.5 or 7.6 encounter this yet? Not sure if you
 will see the attached screenshot.

When I access Atrium through the client tool and try to do a menu
selection, it doesn't take when I click on a selection. However, if I use
my cursor keys it works. I don't have this issue on midtier. (I'm steering
business to use the midtier regardless).

Also, does anyone know how to get the console to resize to the full window
on the client like it does on midtier? I know I could just resize the
field, but I was wondering if there was a 'resize to screen' type option.

Re: Server group testing

2010-01-12 Thread DCI Remedy
Our production environment is setup as a server group. You have to have
both servers aliased. IE, Primary (P01) is aliased to P00 and Secondary
(P02) is also aliased to P00. The config guide goes into more detail.

but basically, you would then log into P00, which would either log you into
P01 or P02. I you were logged into P01 (through P00) and then shut down
P01, you would failover to P02.

Has anyone customized the Service Catalog module in Atrium 7.5/7.6?

2009-12-22 Thread DCI Remedy
Hi listers

My Client want to know if there is a way to limit the display of attributes
when accessing the Service Catalog module? I know I can limit what is
displayed by hiding selected fields on Base Element, but I'd like to avoid
that.

There is an active link called Atrium:ServiceCatalog_Initilize which
appears to define what is shown in the module via set fields

AtriumUSMField = datasetid= + $Dataset ID$ + ,instanceid= + $CI ID$ +
,showall= + $showall$ + ,attr_names= + $attribute_names$ +
,show_all_attr= + $show_all_attr$

I was able to find the fields on the Debug tab on the Atrium:ServiceCatalog
form, but i'm unable to find what sets those values, if they are set at all.

What i'd like to know is if I can use the attr_names and/or show_all_attr
fields to display on the attributes I choose and what type of syntax do i
need to enter it in as?

-or-

Is there somewhere else i should look altogether.

Thanks

 Good morning,

We had a recent problem where a bunch of our Asset data was wiped out. The
records exist, but some of the fields were made null. I came up with the
idea of using AIE to fix this problem by restoring the Asset data from a
backup and treating it as external data to import.

However, I’ve been told that I can’t match on either the Request ID or the
Instance ID, so I am curious if anyone here knows of a system generated
unique id that I can use to match the old record with the new record.

 Thanks,

Re: Atrium 7.6 Promote Sandbox Changes after server restart.

2009-12-03 Thread DCI Remedy
I THINK the issue is resolved. I deleted a Pending job run for the Atrium
Explorer - Identification and Merge job. Not sure why there was an empty
pending run. The Promote Sandbox Changes doesn't come up now. I'll keep
you updated as I do further testing.

Thanks Jason for giving me that tip.

Hi again,

Great stuff, thanks.

Now, I am not sure if my reply post on ARSList made it to you but here is
what I also sent you yesterday:

I had a similar issue. To resolve my particular issue I had to delete some
queued jobs in the 'Reconciliation Job Run' (RE:Job_Runs) form with a Job
Name of Atrium Explorer - Identification and Merge. For some reason there
were 3 queued jobs. Once these were deleted, Atrium Explorer no longer
showed the promotion.

Perhaps check your 'Reconciliation Job Run' form and see if you have any
queued jobs sitting there for Atrium Explorer - Identification and Merge.
Try deleting the queued jobs and go back into Atrium Explorer and see if it
has resolved your problem.

Cheers,

What is the symptom your seeing that you are trying to correct that you

  Hi list.

We just went through and upgraded to ARS 7.1 p7, ITSM 7.0.3 p9, running
  CMDB
2.1 p3 on windows 2000 server group in preparation for the move to 7.5.
  We
have IM/PM/CM and SLM. Sql 2005 database.

Now it appears that the cmdb engine/process isn't firing when we attempt
  to
create a CI through (as an example) AST:Computer Sytem or
BMC:CORE:BMC_ComputerSystem. It appears to save but in actuality, it
doesn't. I've looked at the armonitor.cfg which has the proper entries
  for
  the cmdb executables.

  D:\Program Files\AR System Applications\Server\BMC Atrium
  CMDB\server\bin\arcmdbd.exe -i d:\Program Files\AR System\Server -m

  D:\Program Files\AR System Applications\Server\BMC Atrium
  CMDB\server\bin\arrecond.exe -i d:\Program Files\AR System\Server -m

I've restarted the services on both servers in the group, as well as go
rebooting both boxes completely. No change.

Also, when I try to make an attribute change in the CMDB Console, it just
sits on Change Pending and doesn't move. There is nothing showing in
  the
  log.

So I'm led to believe that

  a) The processes aren't starting up correctly.

  Or

  b) There is a broken link somewhere that I just can't find.

  I'd greatly appreciate any help.

  Thanks

 Hi all,

 ARS 7.1
 ITSM 7.0.3 p7

I'm currently putting our CMDB stuff back together and have a question
 about the
'custom' tabs that appear in the forms. My dev system has 8 custom tabs
 for the
base element form and my prod system has none. I'm wondering if anyone can
 tell
me which installer puts those in. They look like asset management things
 to me
mostly, but I want to double check.

When I ran the asset management installer I got a whole sheaf of errors
 about
missing forms and such, so I'm trying to work my way backwards to the thing
 I
have to do again to get this all working again.

For a little background, our CMDB was quite mangled. I had to follow the
instructions for uninstalling it. Of course, removing it also removed a
 lot of
join forms that depend on it and I did that. I was hoping that
 reinstalling the
CMDB and then coming back through with the other module installers
 afterward
would be enough to put it all back together. So far, it's looking like
 that is
not the case. Anyone have experience with this? Anyone able to tell me
 how
deep the quicksand is that I've stumbled into? 8)

Question about upgrading to ARS 7.5 on a Server group.

2009-11-09 Thread DCI Remedy
Hello Listers.

I'm planning the upgrade for our server group from 7.1 P7 to 7.5 P3. This
is how it looks (all Windows servers), running SQLServer 2005.

ARS Server Group 00
ARS 1 (Admin Operation)
ARS 2 (Non - Admin Operation)

Midtier Group 00
Midtier 1
Midtier 2

SQL Server

How I read Page 58 of the installation guide is that you need to these
steps:

   1. Stop ARS on the Non-Admin server (ARS 2)
   2. Upgrade Admin server (ARS 1) with Upgrade option.
   3. Upgrade ARS 2 with Server Group option.
   4. Start ARS on ARS 2.

Here is where I get confused. How do I update the Approval and Email
engine. The guide states:

   -

When upgrading components such as Approval Server and Email Engine, remove
the associated server from the server group while performing the upgrade.
To do this, clear the Server Group Member check box on the Server
Information
form, or modify the Server-Group-Member option in the ar.cfg[ar.conf]
   file.

So when I DESELECT the 'Server Group Member' flag on ARS 2, that implies
that the ARS is running on that server when i'm upgrading ARS 1, which
contradicts the first step of stopping ARS on that server. Then when I
upgrade ARS 2, I have to DESELECT the flag on ARS 1. Does that mean I
reselect that flag on ARS 2 and select the Server Group option when I do the
upgrade. Does that mean I need to stop ARS on ARS 1?

-OR-

Do NOT select Approval Server and email engine when I do my server group
upgrade. Then DESELECT the Server Group flag on both servers and run the
upgrade again on both servers selecting only Approval Server and Email
engine the second time around?

Unfortunately, I can't test this in our dev or uat enviroment because they
are standalone servers.

Anyone run through this scenario yet?

Thanks

Ed

Tommy,

Yeah, we've wiped the install dirs and went through the workflow and
customizations. Very minimal stuff. Looks like a call to BMC is in order.

Thanks!

We encountered similar issues with upgrade/ patching. Had to clean-up files
directories and form names and reinstall manually using command line codes
with the help of BMC Support. The issue was opened for 2 months before the
issue was identified and corrected though. Also had different results across
environments so the root cause for failure is not exactly known. We did
narrow down the fact that when we upgraded from 7.1 to 7.5 the upgrade did
not complete successfully even though the logs stated that the it completed
successfully. Somewhere in the install there was and error but the error was
ignored and so forms names were changed but the form structure did not. When
trying to patch, the system was looking for the old form names but they did
not exist.

Check for any form names that have a '/' in them instead of a '-' and vice
versa.

Hello listers!

So I'm running into issues with my Atrium Upgrade.

Windows 2003 Server (VM)

MS SQL Server 2005 (Separate server)

ARS 7.5 Patch 3

CMDB 2.1 Patch 6

Incident and Problem Patch 9000

Midtier 7.5 (Separate server)

It errors out on this step.

BMC Atrium Core 7.5.00 patch 002 install failed.

  Feature BMC Atrium CMDB failed

 com.bmc.smbu.install.common.rule.engine.CommandExecutionException: Exec
command (C:\DOCUME~1\\LOCALS~1\Temp\Utilities\cmdb\cmdbdriver.exe -s
SERVERNAME REMOVED -u Demo -p not_displayed -t 9067 -x E:\Program

returned an exit code of 1, which was interpreted as a failure

Feature Atrium Impact Simulator Engine failed

Installation was skipped because BMC Atrium CMDB failed to install

I've restored the DB and tried the Atrium Patch 3 and got the same error.

We are not installing the Atrium WS

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've been struggling with this for a few
days now.

Thanks

Ed

Re: how to append date along with a file name

2009-09-23 Thread DCI Remedy
Are you defining the filename in your escalation through a set fields? If
so you could do this.

[filename] + $DATE$ + .[file extension]

Eg

myfile_ + $DATE$ + .doc

Double check your workflow to ensure that a field isn't being set that is

Re: confirm save request dialog box kept appearing

2009-09-05 Thread DCI Remedy
Tina,

Good to hear. One caveat though. You should confirm if that workflow that
fired on those conditions are still applicable on create. If that's the
case, then you will probably need to put a qualification of $OPERATION$ =
CREATE. The other alternative is to disable setting the change flag on
those fields at the field level.

That did it! There were ALs that fire on Display, Window Loaded and Window
Open. When I removed these execute on condition, the Confirm Save Request
does not appear anymore. Thanks!

CI Relationship

2009-08-17 Thread DCI Remedy
Hello list.

I have a requirement to do a bulk CI transfer from one Logical Entity (Store
1) to another Logical Entity (Store 2). The client has ITSM 7.0.3 Service
Desk installed. They have setup each Store as a repository and related all
the CI as child relationships (Member of Collection). They would like the
ability to transfer all/selective CIs through an click of a button. Because
they related CIs to the Store via relationship, I was thinking of doing an
active link guide to fire on the relationship table of the Parent CI and
create the associations or relationship records for the destination store
and marking the existing store relationships deleted. I'm having a hard
time weeding through the workflow to isolate what exactly I need to set.
Any ideas, or maybe an easier/better approach?

Thanks
