I filled my feeders yesterday and broadcast lots of seed today. Wow did I get
a lot of takers! I had a huge flock of blackbirds , Red Wings both male and
female, Grackles, Cowbirds, and Starlings. I did get my regulars too. There
were Cardinals, Blue Jays, Gold and House Finches, Titmice, C
Here in Auburn some new migrants are coming my way, finally. This morning I had
a pair of Purple Finches. This is the earliest they've shown up here. They
didn't stay long, unfortunately. I also had a Chipping Sparrow show up. They
usually nest in my yard. Finally there was a White Throated
I checked my feeders first thing this morning and there was a RB Grosbeak .
They must have moved north quickly. My new bird feeder migrants have kept pace
with Ithaca. I also have 5 W TH Sparrows. I didn't get the huge fallout others
did. I still have a few Juncos. Yesterday the Purple Finc

Yes. I had both the first day. A female came back yesterday and sat in the
birch tree for a long time, almost like she was sleeping. She never went to
the feeders. Could she have been a new migrant who'd just dropped in and needed
a rest?

He's here! Finally. My Baltimore Oriole just showed up at the jelly feeder.
Now I just need the Hummingbirds to return. I'm putting out their feeder
today.

I'm so glad I put out the feeders. The male Hummingbird is back. The Oriole
has come to the jelly feeder repeatedly. On top of that, the House Wren just
let loose with song. Three new arrivals in one day.
I've got 5 White Crown Sparrows, but I think the White Throats and Juncos have
left.
I just watched something cool through my kitchen window. A starling was
peeling bark off my River Birch. I assume it was for nesting material. I've
watched birds gather many nesting materials but never peeling bark.

I found it very interesting that the Orioles have been coming to the suet.
They've never touched the suet here. They just go to the jelly feeders.
They've never touched the oranges I put out either. They must like the sugar
high from the jelly.
