There are many seemingly disjointed events taking place across the country. Isolated, they seem so innocent; but when they are connected, they form a pattern. For instance, the Hollister R-5 School District in Hollister, Missouri, agreed to participate in an emergency evacuation by having students board school buses and leave for destinations unknown. They were to have permission from their parents, but it did not matter when the time came. Then, the U.S. government has special training in urban areas for EMERGENCIES, such as nuclear bomb blasts, chemical/biological attacks. They have sent in black suited troopers with automatic weapons to close down airports, scale buildings, blow up buildings, take prisoners, etc. Then the constant ATTACKS upon the Christian religion through the courts. Example: In eastern Kentucky the schools and courthouses are taking down the Ten Commandments, Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence, the U.S. motto - in God we trust. Every vestige of the Christian faith that this nation was built upon MUST be destroyed by the ungodly deceivers. Then the black suited "Special ops" and FBI agents that burned - deliberately - to death 86 Branch Davidians on April 19, 1993. ALL WITH DECEPTION by accusing them of having an illegal drug operation to bring in the military. A pattern is emerging. Then the Seattle World Trade Organization demonstration that turned ugly. The police that stepped in were wearing full military riot gear including military HELMETS. Once again, a pattern in emerging. THE MILITARIZING OF THE POLICY ACROSS AMERICA! Then there is H.R. Bill 2987 that has hidden inside of it "Secret Searches" of Americans homes. The section is labeled "Notice Clarification." Under this the government could enter your house, apartment or office with a search warrant, conduct a search, seize or copy files from your computer and NOT tell you until months later. Another section of this bill would relieve the government of giving property owners who are searched an inventory of seized items. Currently, the law requires an inventory of seized items to be prepared and delivered right after a search. Free speech is at Risk. H.R. 2987 would also allow the government to order websites censored and shut down WITHOUT any due process of law and WITHOUT any notice given to the website's owner. When you study very carefully WHY the colonists in America finally made the Declaration of Independence, you would think it was talking about America in the year 2000 - not 1775-76! The pattern goes deeper. President Clinton has spent 8 years DESTROYING our military and leaving Americans defenseless. Washington Times-May 30, 2000 With impertinence and privilege Bruce Fein The case for disbarment of President William Jefferson Clinton by the Arkansas Supreme Court is as simple as simple addition and as ethically compelling as the biblical injunction against false swearing. The president was saddled with a constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, not circumvented. A parallel moral obligation of honesty under oath was likewise attached. The Chief Executive is the nation's chief role model. He teaches by example. Mr. Clinton's derelictions require stern sanctions because of their incalculable damage to the rule of law, which is the cornerstone of civil society. Youngsters and adults alike are inclined to imitate presidential lawlessness on the theory no one is required to be holier than the Pope in Rome. As U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright explained in her contempt citation of President Clinton for giving intentionally "false, misleading and evasive answers that were designed to obstruct the judicial process" in the Paula Jones sexual harassment lawsuit, "[s]anctions must be imposed, not only to redress the president's misconduct, but to deter others who might themselves consider emulating the president of the United States by engaging in misconduct that undermines the integrity of the judicial system." Judge Wright was not plowing virgin territory. A New York court disbarred President Richard M. Nixon in 1976 for his Watergate cover-up misconduct, though he had been pardoned by Gerald Ford. The Appellate Division elaborated: "The gravamen of [Nixon's] conduct is obstruction of the due administration of justice, a most serious offense, but one which is rendered even more grievous by the fact that in this instance the perpetrator is an attorney and was at the time of the conduct in question the holder of the highest public office in this country and in a position of public trust." Mr. Clinton's defenders might argue that Nixon's wrongdoing impaired a criminal investigation, whereas Mr. Clinton's prevarications that occasioned Judge Wright's civil contempt fine thwarted a less serious private civil suit. The distinction is unpersuasive because Mr. Clinton repeated his lies under oath to Judge Wright virtually verbatim before a federal grand jury investigating the president's alleged criminality: perjury, witness tampering, and obstruction of justice. Mr. Clinton's wrongdoing, moreover, is compounded by his strutting impenitence over Monicagate and continuing counterfactual distortions. He persists in denying that he lied under oath in denying a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky, a fact that Judge Wright had held would be pertinent to the Paula Jones suit. After all the due process in the world, the federal district judge found by clear and convincing evidence that the president's testimony was knowingly false and calculated to subvert the judicial process. She expressly offered Mr. Clinton an opportunity to present exculpatory testimony. He declined. Neither the law nor experience knows any more reliable method of proving facts than that employed by Judge Wright. Yet Mr. Clinton audaciously insists before the public and the Arkansas state disciplinary authorities that her unchallenged fact-finding was flawed, bettering the instruction of Alger Hiss' lifelong denial of perjury before Congress in the face of a criminal conviction and layers of judicial appeals. In addition to scorning contrition, Mr. Clinton's false swearing and attempt to derail justice was aggravated because the unclouded prohibition forecloses any claim of ignorance of the law. Under Rules 8.4 (c) and (d) of the Arkansas Model Rules of Professional Conduct, attorneys are enjoined from "conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit or misrepresentation," or "prejudicial to the administration of justice." The U.S. Supreme Court made unmistakably clear in Nix vs. Whiteside (1986) that a political vendetta, right-wing conspiracy, or other circumstance does not excuse false testimony. Indeed, the idea was so outlandish that it prompted then Chief Justice Warren Burger to remark that a right to lie under oath in any circumstance "has never been responsibly advanced." In sum, what is astonishing about the initiation of disbarment proceedings against President Clinton in an Arkansas circuit court last week by the Committee on Professional Conduct of the Supreme Court of Arkansas is not the ethics indictment itself, but the criticism of some who should know better. Sen. Charles Schumer, New York Democrat, for instance, who voted against Mr. Clinton's impeachment as a House Member and after elevation to the Senate refused recusal at the impeachment trial, fumed to the New York Times that the disciplinary panel was "a kangaroo court" unworthy or respect. Traficant says America is a virtual police state, and he worries that a leading forensic expert hired by Congress to investigate Waco may have been murdered. Late in April of this year NewsMax.com first broke nationally the story about the suspicious death of Carlos Ghigliotti. Ghigliotti was an expert FLIR (Forward-Looking InfraRed) videotape analyst hired by the House Government Reform Committee to analyze the flashes on infrared film taken by the FBI during its April 1993 Waco assault. Ghigliotti baldly said the FBI had lied when it claimed it had not fired into the compound. He confirmed that the infrared film showed gunfire coming from the assault weapons of FBI agents. Maryland police officials say the cause of Ghigliotti's death in April is officially a heart attack. His badly decomposed body was discovered in his office on April 28, after his building manager called the police telling them he hadnt seen Ghigliotti for weeks. Traficant believes too many coincidences, including Ghigliottis death, have occurred during the Waco investigation and is now calling upon Congress to take action. The Ohio congressman is not buying official claims that Ghigliotti, age 42, died of a heart attack in his sleep. "Something stinks," he said. "Ghigliotti said the FBI lied, that they did fire automatic weapons into the burning [Branch Davidian] building," said the congressman. "But Vector Data Systems of England said the FBI did not lie. Two scientific groups totally disagree." "Vector gets hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts from the FBI," continued Traficant. "To boot, FBI audiotapes of the burning building are now lost. To boot, FBI autopsy reports confiscated of victims are now missing." Traficant also pointed out the FBI lodged an alleged or false child abuse charge against the Davidians. The FBI had also initially denied using combustible incendiary tear gas canisters, only to admit doing so later. Although Traficant is pushing for a congressional investigation, the Laurel City Police Department told NewsMax.com it was no longer investigating the case. "The investigations been closed on the basis of the report from the medical examiners office which showed that he died of a heart attack brought on by arteriosclerosis, said Mary Bulla, the administrative specialist at Laurel City Police Department. "They found no indication of foul play, and they put that it was a natural death, so that concludes our investigation." Police State Fears "We have developed a stone cold police state in America, believe me, from Waco, Ruby Ridge, to Miami, Florida," Traficant said. "Every American knows it, [but] no one is doing anything about it. There must be a full investigation into the death of Carlos Ghigliotti." In an effort to move forward an investigation of the Justice Departments handling of the Waco tragedy, Traficant has sponsored H.R. 4105, a bill that would enact the Fair Justice Act of 2000. The act, if passed, would establish the Fair Justice Agency, a new federal agency that would independently have the power to investigate and prosecute alleged misconduct, criminal activity, corruption or fraud by an officer or employee of the Justice Department. The bill states that the president would appoint the director of the proposed FJA for a 10-year term subject to a Senate confirmation. Only inefficiency, neglect of duty or malfeasance in office would be a cause for the directors dismissal by the president. Under the bill, the FJA would have the same prosecutorial and investigative authority as the Justice Department. The agency would be authorized with $10 million for fiscal year 2001 with a $5 million increase each year for the next two years. Wednesday, May 24 3:24 PM SGT South Korea stopped US strike on North Korea: former president SEOUL, May 24 (AFP) - South Korea stopped US President Bill Clinton from launching an air strike against North Korea's nuclear facilities in June 1994, according to the South Korean president at the time, Kim Young-Sam. In an interview with the independent Hankyoreh Daily, Kim said a last-minute phone conversation with Clinton saved the Korean peninsula from an imminent war, at the height of an international crisis over North Korea's nuclear programme. "At that time, the situation was really dangerous," Kim told the paper. "The Clinton government was preparing a war." According to Kim, the United States deployed an aircraft carrier off the eastern coast at a distance close enough for its war planes to hit the North's nuclear facilities in Yongbyon. US warships were also ready for a naval bombardment of the nuclear facilities, some 90 kilometers (56 miles) north of Pyongyang, he added. "One day, I heard (then US Ambassador James) Laney was about to hold a press conference the following day and announce the withdrawal of relatives of US embassy staff," he said to the daily. "This is a step the United States usually takes on the eve of a war. So, I called in Laney." Kim warned the US ambassador another war on the Korean peninsula would turn all of Korea into a bloodbath, killing between 10 and 20 million people and destroying South Korea's prosperous economy. "I told him that I would not move even a single soldier of our 650,000 troops (in case a war broke out because of the bombing of Yongbyon)," he said to the paper. According to Kim he argued with Clinton for 32 minutes on the phone. "I told him there would be no inter-Korean war while I was the president." "Clinton tried to persuade me to change my mind, but I criticised the United States for planning to stage a war with the North on our land," he said. Clinton then relented and proposed to set up a secret telephone line linking the White House and the presidential Blue House here for close consultation on the North's nuclear issue, the paper said. Three days later, a team from the White House arrived, and at around the same time former US president Jimmy Carter arrived in Seoul on his way to Pyongyang in a bid to defuse the tense situation, Kim said. Kim asked Carter to warn then North Korean President Kim Il-Sung of the seriousness of the situation and to convey his wish to avoid a war, Kim Young-Sam said. During Carter's visit, Kim Il-Sung proposed the North freeze its nuclear programme on condition that it receive lightwater reactors which could be monitored more easily by the outside world. This proposal eventually led to a landmark agreement in October 1994 in Geneva, under which North Korea agreed to freeze its nuclear programme in exchange for two light-water reactors and fuel from the West. Carter returned to Seoul from Pyongyang with a proposal from Kim Il-Sung to hold an inter-Korean summit, but the summit was cancelled by the sudden death of Kim Il-Sung from a heart attack on July 8, 1994. Kim Il-Sung was succeeded by his eldest son, Kim Jong-Il. The New Face Of the Talking Head; Heather Nauert's Fast Path to Punditry

She has opinions, so many opinions, delivered straight into the
hungry eye of the television camera.
Here is Heather Nauert talking about school shootings on PBS's
"To the Contrary." And there she is yakking about politics on
"Politically Incorrect." And on Fox News Channel, she's
lambasting "the heinous tax system in this country."
The presidential election, Elian Gonzalez, gun control, foreign
policy --she weighs in on all of it. One night, the producers at
Fox News asked her to pass judgment on the latest Dixie Chicks
video. No problem!
Which makes you wonder: Who the heck is Heather Nauert? Why,
other than looking like the younger sister of another Heather
(Locklear), is she on TV at all? From what well of life-shaping
experiences do our anointed dispensers of video wisdom draw their
opinions?
Fox keeps telling its viewers that she's a "GOP Consultant" or a
"GOP Strategist," which invests Nauert with just the right
wonkiness and insider cachet. Except that she says she's never
worked for the Republican Party ("they need a label, I guess,"
she says.) Other times she's a "Fox News Contributor," which
means, rather circularly, that she appears on Fox News.
Sometimes, she's both GOP Consultant and Fox News Contributor.
Only 30, Nauert has run the alphabet gamut of TV punditry over
the past few years: MSNBC, BBC, CNBC, PBS, ABC. She has a regular
gig on the Fox News Channel, teleported via satellite to comment
on an astonishing variety of political and public-policy issues.
Sometimes--especially now, the political season--she'll pop up
three or four times a week. The Fox people think she's going
places, although it's anybody's guess where. One clue: Last year
she read for a co-starring role in a movie opposite Robert De
Niro (she didn't get it). She's got a William Morris agent, the
same guy who represents Regis Philbin.
"I told her, 'God made you beautiful. Now you've got to make
yourself smart,' " says Tony Snow, the host of "Fox News Sunday,"
who has coached Nauert in the pundit's arts. "TV can be a blond
wasteland. There are a lot of gorgeous people with only one thing
to say who vanish from the scene."
Nauert sees herself as filling a gap in the pundit firmament.
"It's more interesting to see a young person talking about issues
than a big old fat white guy," she says.
She adds, "If you're young and you can't back it up with smarts,
then people are going to say, 'Who cares what you have to say?' .
. . My belief is, honey, let me show you what I can do. Go for
it, girl."
Heather Nauert is the first to admit that her path to punditry
wasn't the usual one. She didn't work her way up the journalistic
rungs from "Sioux City to Cedar Rapids to Milwaukee," as she puts
it. Nor is she a former administration hack, or one of those
gray, grandiloquent professors retailing sound bites buttressed
by the ivied credentials of Harvard or Georgetown.
"From the time I was 16, I knew I wanted to do something on TV,"
she says. "I've been lucky opportunities have presented
themselves."
The scion of a prominent Chicago area family, Nauert wasn't even
out of Arizona State University in 1992 when she landed her first
regular TV gig in Washington. As a summer intern here ("I'd heard
that so much of the action was on the East Coast"), she won a
spot hosting a country music video program called "Young Country"
on Channel 50. It was an education: Nauert (her nom de TV then
was Heather Forrester) interviewed Willie Nelson and George
Jones, and learned her way around a TV camera.
And it led . . . nowhere. Nauert stayed in Washington and
finished school at Mount Vernon College, then went to work for a
coalition of small businesses and insurance companies, including
one owned by her father, Peter W. Nauert. She was a lobbyist and
sometime talking head, selling the insurance industry's line in
the budding health care debate. It was her first introduction to
politics and Capitol Hill. She liked it, but, she says, "I still
knew I wanted to get back into TV."
Her next chance came in 1995. Answering an open call, Nauert
earned a spot on "Youngbloods," a political talk show featuring
dueling panels of twenty-something conservatives and liberals on
National Empowerment TV, a local conservative cable network.
"I thought she was well rounded and could speak to a variety of
issues passionately," says Brian Jones, NET's then-general
manager and now communications director of the Republican
National Convention. "She wasn't so strident that she turned
people away. A lot of people on TV are just yellers and
screamers. She's able to hold a conversation."
And not exactly hard on the eyes? "Oh, yeah," laughs Jones, "but
you brought that up, not me."
Nauert spent a year on "Youngbloods." By day, she was working as

Drugs that could effectively treat these patients are much more expensive and have to be taken for up to two years - potential barriers in some poor, developing countries. But failing to treat these patients could have catastrophic results, particularly since TB tends to mutate into even more resistant strains when treated incorrectly, said Espinal, a doctor with WHO's communicable diseases program in Switzerland. If more countries do not correctly treat TB, the organization estimates that nearly 1 billion people will be newly infected - and 35 million will die - in the next two decades. In the United States from 1993 through 1998, 45 states and the District of Columbia reported at least one case each of multi-drug-resistant TB, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While TB more commonly afflicts people in poorer, developing countries, Espinal warned that because it is an airborne disease, ``TB can be in eight hours from Russia to New York.'' Another researcher agreed with Espinal's prognosis and called drug-resistant TB a ``public health emergency.'' ``The genie of multi-drug-resistant TB is irreversibly out of the bottle,'' Dr. C. Robert Horsburgh of Boston University's Schools of Public Health and Medicine wrote in an accompanying editorial. Espinal said 119 of the 212 WHO member countries, including the United States, have implemented or agreed to implement the organization's TB-fighting plan, which calls for treatment with the first-line drugs. Twenty-two countries representing 85 percent of all TB cases - including China, India, Brazil and Nigeria - have agreed to take part. WHO is also calling for an expansion of the TB-fighting plan using treatments that are at least 350 more times more expensive than first-line drugs such as isoniazid and rifampicin, which cost $20 to $30. Already, India's health secretary has said that with an annual 2 million new cases in India alone, his government cannot keep pace with the costs, estimated at $55 million this year. WHO estimates that 16 million people worldwide have tuberculosis, and rates of infection are on the rise. WHO officials estimate there were 8 million new cases of TB in 1997 alone. And, that in the analysis, along with the jet fuel that is obviously noxious, and poisonous to one degree or another, that was only on part of many other parts of bio contents, that the chem-spray residue also contained virus type things, and other elements that cause meningitis, heart problems, repiritory problems, to only name but a few. But the analysis was clear to show, that there were more then one ingrediant, that was found in the chem-spray residue. I am not aware what Interpherone is. But as I said, I don't believe the chem-spray is made up of just one thing, as the analysis reports show clearly, there are many elements in the spray. Also, are they spraying something that is to protect us from maybe bio warfare that may be either coming from some country, or has already come, or something (just guessing). WEll, I don't think thats the case. I don't because, I have been reading reports from people who are ill from a chem-spray, and their illness's or illness's have been going on since they were sprayed, which is anywhere from a few months, to two years. It is a fact, that when people get flue shots, they often get ill from the shot. They do, because they are actually getting a small does in the shot, of actual flue! This strengthens the human immunity against the full blown flue. So when the flue does come, those that have had the shots, don't get the flue. But my point here, is if the government is spraying us that is a form of being a protective dosage of something, to stave off being really affected from whatever is supposed to be sprayed on us, that will either really injur us badly, or worse yet, cause death. Well, as it is the flue shot, the effects of being sick from the flue shot only last a few days to maybe a week, then goes away. But from many of the reports I have read of those claiming to be affected and ill from the chem-trails, have been ill for months up to a year or two. That kind of blows the idea out of the water, that the government maybe spraying us with a protective bio chemical or anti-virus, as the effects would surely wear off in a few days, and not linger as some victims are stating, which months to years. Something dangerous is being sprayed into the air! There are many people getting sick! Not only that, I got a report the other day, of a person who explained in detail, that he feels he was purposely sprayed, and felt like he was targeted, as he is involved in getting out some really good information about UFO activity near a air force base! I would have to say, from everything I have seen and read, and those that I have spoken to by telephone, and through e-mail, that I am convinced the chem-spray is for anything but our good health. And I totally believe, that the chem-spray is purposely being sprayed on humans . And those in the know, that know this, and are doing it, know exactly what they are doing. Now, at last, there is a way to give your children a basic civics course right in your own home! In my own experience as a father, I have discovered several simple devices that can illustrate to a child's mind the prin- ciples on which the modern state deals with its citizens. You may find them helpful too. For example, I used to play the simple card game WAR with my son. After a while, when he thoroughly understood that the higher ranking cards beat the lower ranking ones, I created a new game I called GOVERNMENT. In this game, I was Government, and I won every trick, regardless of who had the better card. My boy soon lost interest in my new game, but I like to think it taught him a valuable lesson for later in life. When your child is a little older, you can teach him about our tax system in a way that is easy to grasp and will allow him to understand the benefits. Offer him, say, $10 to mow the lawn. When he has mowed it and asks to be paid, withhold $5 and explain that this is income tax. Give $1 of this to his younger brother, who has done nothing to deserve it, and tell him that this is "fair" because the younger brother 'needs money too'. Also, ex- plain that you need the other $4 yourself to cover the administ- rative costs of dividing the money and for various other things you need. Make him place his $5 in a savings account over which you have authority. Explain that if he is ever naughty, you will remove the money from the account without asking him. Also explain how you will be taking most of the interest he earns on that money, without his permission. Mention that if he tries to hide the money, this, in itself, will be evidence of wrongdoing and will result in you automatically taking the money from him. Conduct random searches of his room in the small hours of the morning. Burst in unannounced. Go through all of his drawers and pockets. If he questions this, tell him you are acting on a tip- off from a mate of his who casually mentioned that you had both earned a bit of spare cash last week. If you find it, confiscate all of that money and also take his stereo and television. Tell him you are selling these and keeping the money to compensate you for having to make the raid. Also lock him in his room for a month as further punishment. When he cries at the injustice of this, tell him he is being "selfish" and "greedy" and only interested in looking after his own happiness. Explain that he should learn to sacrifice his own happiness for other people and that since he cannot be relied upon or trusted to do this voluntarily, you will use force to ensure he complies. Later in life he will thank you. Make as many rules as possible. Leave the reasons for them obscure. Enforce them arbitrarily. Accuse your child of breaking rules you have never told him about and carefully explain that ignorance of your rules is not an excuse for breaking them. Keep him anxious that he may be violating commands you haven't yet issued. Instill in him the feeling that rules are utterly irr- ational. This will prepare him for living under a democratic government. He is too young to understand the benefits of democracy, so explain this wonderful system as follows: You, your wife and his brother get together and vote that your son should have all privileges removed, be caned, and confined to his room for a week. If he protests that you are violating his rights, patiently explain his error and tell him that the majority have voted for this punishment and nothing matters except the will of the majority. When your child has matured sufficiently to understand how the judicial system works, set a bedtime for him of, say, 10 p.m. and then send him to bed at 9 p.m. When he tearfully accuses you of breaking the rules, explain that you made the rules and you can interpret them in any way that seems appropriate to you, according to changing conditions. Promise often to take him to the movies or the zoo, and then, at the appointed hour, recline in an easy chair with a newspaper and tell him you have changed your plans. Another section of this bill would relieve the government of giving property owners who are searched an inventory of seized items. H.R. 2987 would also allow the government to order websites censored and shut down WITHOUT any due process of law and WITHOUT any notice given to the website's owner. Punjab used to be the most prosperous agricultural region in India. Today every farmer is in debt and despair. Vast stretches of land have become water-logged desert. And as an old farmer pointed out, even the trees have stopped bearing fruit because heavy use of pesticides have killed the pollinators - the bees and butterflies. And Punjab is not alone in experiencing this ecological and social disaster. Last year I was in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh where farmers have also been committing suicide. Farmers who traditionally grew pulses and millets and paddy have been lured by seed companies to buy hybrid cotton seeds referred to by the seed merchants as "white gold", which were supposed to make them millionaires. Instead they became paupers. Their native seeds have been displaced with new hybrids which cannot be saved and need to be purchased every year at high cost. Hybrids are also very vulnerable to pest attacks. Spending on pesticides in Warangal has shot up 2000 per cent from $2.5 million in the 1980s to $50 million in 1997. Now farmers are consuming the same pesticides as a way of killing themselves so that they can escape permanently from unpayable debt. The corporations are now trying to introduce genetically engineered seed which will further increase costs and ecological risks. That is why farmers like Malla Reddy of the Andhra Pradesh Farmers' Union had uprooted Monsanto's genetically engineered Bollgard cotton in Warangal. On March 27th, 25 year old Betavati Ratan took his life because he could not pay pack debts for drilling a deep tube well on his two-acre farm. The wells are now dry, as are the wells in Gujarat and Rajasthan where more than 50 million people face a water famine. The drought is not a "natural disaster". It is "man-made". It is the result of mining of scarce ground water in arid regions to grow thirsty cash crops for exports instead of water prudent food crops for local needs. It is experiences such as these which tell me that we are so wrong to be smug about the new global economy. I will argue in this lecture that it is time to stop and think about the impact of globalisation on the lives of ordinary people. This is vital to achieve sustainability. Seattle and the World Trade Organisation protests last year have forced everyone to think again. Throughout this lecture series people have referred to different aspects of sustainable development taking globalisation for granted. For me it is now time radically to re-evaluate what we are doing. For what we are doing in the name of globalisation to the poor is brutal and unforgivable. This is specially evident in India as we witness the unfolding disasters of globalisation, especially in food and agriculture. Who feeds the world? My answer is very different to that given by most people. It is women and small farmers working with biodiversity who are the primary food providers in the Third World, and contrary to the dominant assumption, their biodiversity based small farms are more productive than industrial monocultures. The rich diversity and sustainable systems of food production are being destroyed in the name of increasing food production. However, with the destruction of diversity, rich sources of nutrition disappear. When measured in terms of nutrition per acre, and from the perspective biodiversity, the so called "high yields" of industrial agriculture or industrial fisheries do not imply more production of food and nutrition. Yields usually refers to production per unit area of a single crop. Output refers to the total production of diverse crops and products. Planting only one crop in the entire field as a monoculture will of course increase its individual yield. Planting multiple crops in a mixture will have low yields of individual crops, but will have high total output of food. Yields have been defined in such a way as to make the food production on small farms by small farmers disappear. This hides the production by millions of women farmers in the Third World - farmers like those in my native Himalaya who fought against logging in the Chipko movement, who in their terraced fields even today grow Jhangora (barnyard millet), Marsha (Amaranth), Tur (Pigeon Pea), Urad (Black gram), Gahat (horse gram), Soya Bean (Glycine Max), Bhat (Glycine Soya) - endless diversity in their fields. From the biodiversity perspective, biodiversity based productivity is higher than monoculture productivity. I call this blindness to the high productivity of diversity a "Monoculture of the Mind", which creates monocultures in our fields and in our world. The Mayan peasants in the Chiapas are characterised as unproductive because they produce only 2 tons of corn per acre. However,

Although he won the first round of the election held on 9th April with 49.4% of the vote violence broke out soon afterwards with the main contender, Alejandro Toledo crying foul. Observers from the Carter Center in Atlanta, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the Organization of African States (OAS) have added their voices of protest: there were irregularities in the polling stations, faulty computers that had produced numerous technical glitches and an unacceptably long counting of the vote. Despite attempts to remedy the situation, Toledo and the observers remained unconvinced that improvements had taken place. On Monday 22nd May the OAS demanded a postponement of the second round scheduled for 28th May, otherwise they would refuse to conduct any further monitoring. And, Toledo himself indicated that he would not take part in the poll at all. The Peruvian election authorities, on the other hand, deny the charges and say the vote must go ahead. What is going on? The Americans have decided "absolutely" not to let Alberto Fujimori rule again, I was told by a Peruvian academic. Even if he wins the election in the second round "they will force him to resign." Peru's vice-president, Francesco Tudela, has stated that US/Peruvian relations have been deeply wounded by the "unprecedented interference by Washington in [Peru's] election process" But is this an "unprecedented interference"? The Americans have fomented trouble in Central and South America for as long as anyone can remember but recent events in Peru more closely resemble the tactics used in Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the former Soviet Union over the past 5 years. Wherever possible, the Americans have tried to remove those governments and leaders they deem to be disagreeable through the ballot box rather than coup d'etats. In most cases, the sheer weight of the opposition: the US government and the CIA aided by their European allies and numerous (allegedly) non-governmental organizations all massaged by a compliant press easily achieve their goal. What can a handful of poverty-stricken Albanians or Slovaks do against such an onslaught? The most perfect example of the beat-up, and the one most closely resembling the tactics being used today in Peru, occurred in Albania just four years ago this May. Parliamentary elections were held pitting the governing Democratic Party under its leader and the country's president, Sali Berisha, against the Albanian Socialists (former Communists). Like Alberto Fujimori, Berisha was a charismatic figure who had succeeded in turning around the devastated Albanian economy producing some of the highest growth figures in the former Communist bloc. He had also proved to be an obedient ally of the Americans cooperating with them over the war in Bosnia and maintaining a 'hands off' policy towards neighbouring Kosovo, something demanded by the US at the time. But to those who keep a close eye on events it was obvious that the US had turned against Berisha and wanted him out. Allegations of human rights abuses (always a useful pretext for demanding change) intensified and reports started to appear in the press early in 1996 from pre-election monitors that the election would not be conducted fairly. It is true that many Albanians had lost out from the Berisha reforms but it was also true that they were not ready to re-elect the very people who had given them 45 years of the most hard-line Communism in Europe. United Nations diplomats are outraged that the US government is apparently suppressing a potential key trial witness. Diplomats are now demanding that the CIA agent, Dr Richard Fuisz, be released from the gagging order. Fuisz, a multi-millionaire businessman and pharmaceutical researcher, was, according to US intelligence sources, the CIA's key operative in the Syrian capital Damascus during the 1980s where he also had business interests. One month before a court order was served on him by the US government gagging him from speaking on the grounds of national security, he spoke to US congressional aide Susan Lindauer, telling her he knew the identities of the Lockerbie bombers and claiming they were not Libyan. Lindauer, shocked by Fuisz's claims, immediately compiled notes on the meeting which formed the basis of a later sworn affidavit detailing Fuisz's claims. One month after their conversation, in October 1994, a court in Washington DC issued an order barring him from revealing any information on the grounds of "military and state secrets privilege". Whencontactedbythe Sunday Herald last night, Fuisz said when asked if he was a CIA agent in Syria in the 1980s: "That is not an issue I can confirm or deny. I am not allowed to speak about these issues. In fact, I can't even explain to you why I can't speak about these issues." Fuisz did, however, say that he would not take any action againstanewspaperwhich named him as a CIA agent. Congressional aide Lindauer, who was involved in early negotiations over the Lockerbie trial, claims Fuisz made "unequivocal statements É to me that he has first-hand knowledge about the Lockerbie case". In her affidavit, she goes on: "Dr Fuisz has told me that he can identify who orchestrated and executed the bombing. Dr Fuisz has said that he can confirm absolutely that noLibyannationalwas involved in planning or executing the bombing of PanAm 103, eitherinanytechnicalor advisory capacity whatsoever." Fuisz's statements to Lindauer support the claims of the two Libyan accused who are to incriminate a number of terrorist organisations, including the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command, which had strong links to Syria and Iran. Lindauer said Fuisz told her he could provide information on Middle Eastern terrorists, and referred to Lockerbie as an example of an unsolved bombing case that he said he has the immediate capability to resolve. Lindauer says Fuisz told her CIA staff had destroyed reports he sent them on Lockerbie. Lindauer also refers in her affidavit to speculation that the USA shifted any connection to Lockerbie away from Syria to Libya in return for its support during the Gulf war. She added that Fuisz told her: If the [US] government would let me, I could identify the men behind this attack today. I could do the right thing I could go into any crowded restaurant and pick out these men I can tell you their home addresses You wont find [them] anywhere in Libya. You will only find [them] in Damascus. I was investigating on the ground and I know. The 1994 gagging order was issued following disclosures by Fuisz during other legal proceedings about alleged illegal exports of military equipment to Iraq. The order claims that the information held by Fuisz is vital to the nations security or dip lomatic relations and can not be revealed no matter how compelling the need for, and relevance of, the information. The submission also makes clear that the government is empowered to protect its interests in this case in the future, thereby gagging Fuisz permanently. Details of Fuiszs gagging have been passed to the United Nations, including UN secretary general Kofi Annan, Russias UN ambassador Sergey Lavrov and the Libyan UN ambassador, as well as representatives of France and China. The report on the Fuisz gagging, containing Lindauers affidavit, refers to the history of US interference [and] sabotage by the United States. One senior UN diplomat said: In the interests of natural justice, Dr Fuisz should be released from any order which prevents him telling what he knows of the PanAm bombing. With Fuisz prohibited from speaking, neither the defence nor prosecution can call him as a witness. A legal source close to Fuisz said: We want the truth out. The announcement came hours after President Ezer Weizman - who has been beset by fraud allegations - said he would step down three years early. Investigators last week concluded there was insufficient evidence to press charges against President Weizman but said his behaviour raised serious moral questions. Both men leave their jobs maintaining their innocence. Mr Mordechai, the first Israeli minister in history to face sex charges, sent a letter of resignation to Prime Minister Ehud Barak which was read out at Sunday's cabinet meeting, the premier's office said. In his letter, Mr Mordechai, who was also transport minister, said "force of circumstances" had obliged him to resign. He will continue to serve as a member of the Knesset, but has also resigned from the leadership of the Centre Party, said a spokesman, who added that Mr Mordechai would not try to prevent his parliamentary immunity from being lifted. He has been accused by a former employee and two other women of making unwanted sexual advances against them. The cases involving Mr Mordechai and Mr Weizman are the latest in a string of sleaze scandals that have shaken the top ranks of power in Israel in recent months. Mr Barak's election fund-raising activities have also been under investigation, along with alleged fraud and corruption by his predecessor, Mr Netanyahu and his wife Sara. Peace architect Earlier on Sunday, a spokesman announced that President Ezer Weizman would leave office on 10 July, three years before the end of his second term. Mr Weizman, an architect of Israel's 1979 peace treaty with Egypt, narrowly avoided court proceedings last week for alleged corruption and tax fraud. Under pressure from critics and blaming poor health, he had repeatedly said he wanted to quit ahead of schedule. To understand the practical applications of plantation law - the law
imposed upon slaves by their masters, as is the case for US - in fascist
amerika, one must go back, way back, to understand the sociopolitical roots
of the law's theoretical- basis in class warfare; without an understanding of
the roots of oppression, one cannot attack it at its weak points and achieve
freedom.
The origins of eurocentric law is in the caste system of the Sarasvati
culture (fl. ca. 6500 BCE) which system is also the basis for the modern
caste system of India. One caste - the Brahmins - were supreme in power;
their were the lawgivers, the priests, and the administrators, the living,
breathing voice of the gods on earth; their immediate subordinates - the
Kshatriya, or warriors - defended the territory and kept the lower castes in
line. Beneath these two were the Vaishiya and Shudra - the merchants and
manual craftspeople - and at the bottom, the Candala, or untouchables. The
indicia of outright slavery were reserved to the Candala, and to Outcastes -
those born of 'irregular unions' (mixed-caste children) which approach is
also preserved in old Talmudic law, and retained in the Old Testament; the
Candala and Outcastes were racially, as well as socially, distinct from the
other four castes (part of the Caste system derives from Varna, color
distinctions; but these distinctions were not originally absolute; but the
Shudra, too, were slaves - consigned by birth to a life of manual work; and
the Vaishya, though comfortable merchants, enjoyed their comfort only at the
whim of the Brahmins and their Kshatriya enforcers. The Sarasvati culture
disintegrated, primarily due to the shifting and ultimate extinction of the
Sarasvati river, around 2000 BCE, and its remnants were assimilated by its
daughter cultures at Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro, as well as (to a lesser
extent) by the Sumerians and Babylonians, from whom the Habiru (ancient
Israelites) derived various substrata of their religious and cultural
ideology.
Among the Habiru tribes, especially at the time of the 'exodus' from
Egypt (and increasing by increments through the invasion and genocide in
Palestine), modified the caste system to fit their pre-existing cultural
assumptions, and kept the distinctions based on Varna - color - intact.
Poor Habiru were slaves of the upper classes, but - because of varna -
were offered their 'freedom' after a period of years (as reflected in the
'Jubilees' calendar developed in the interval leading up to the First Temple
Period. Ca. 1000 BCE); non-Habiru - 'Gentile' - slaves were offered no such
option. By the rise of the Roman Empire (ca. 8th century BCE) the social
stigma of slaves was solidified, and the caste system as we know it today was
recognizable, if not completely articulated.
The warrior caste in the Near East in Europe, by the Roman period,
had essentially merged with the Noble caste; the central servile castes -
merchants, craftsmen, tradespeople, and farmers - had already begun a decline
to a status just vaguely superior to that of slaves: slightly better
treatment, but not much more. They had no real political power over their own
lives, but could use slaves to ease their own workload. Slave, serf, or
peasant, it was all the same; our word "nigger" derives from the Germanic
word "Neger", a field slave ("Nigger" was used to denote low social standing
in Chaucer's time, and can be found in his Canterbury Tales), and "Nigger" as
a sociopolitical designation was applied to Europeans, by Europeans, for
centuries before the masses of europe were even aware of the existence of
black Africans; blacks were generally referred to as "Ethiopians" or
"Africans" by those who were aware of them, through the Renaissance. Even in
the North American colonies, the term "Negroe" was referred until sometime
after 1800.
As a racial designation the term "White" was self-applied only to
members of the northern european/germanic 'noble caste' who were a deathly
white color, the pallor of their skin acquired by a life of never having to
work outdoors. They had an almost porcelain-like appearance; the term
"blueblood", as applied to this caste, derives from the tendency of blue
veins to show through their veins clearly.

It must ever be refining and improving upon itself and periodically shedding its outer skin of appearance and the density of its material expression. H. Spencer Lewis referred to this process early in his writings as the 108 year cycle and later alluded to it in the numerically higher degrees by allegorically referencing the well known analogy of the necessary relationship between Judas and Jesus. His referencing was to explain the necessity of a catalyst to induce the essential change and transformation. American Beauty is the story of the transformation of its main character, Lester Burnham (played in an Academy Award-winning performance by Kevin Spacey). The film opens with narration from the already *dead* Lester, who informs us we are about to witness the events that brought him to his current state. Thus the two central tenets of Rosicrucianism, eternal existence and the necessity of transformation, are established at the film's genesis, and are the keys to interpreting the action that follows. In the beginning, Lester is more dead than he is upon his murder at the end. His life is at the nadir of the Rosicrucian existence: it is completely stagnant. Lester toils joylessly at a dead-end job at an advertising trade magazine. . .and it is here where the film begins it scathing attack on McAmerikanism, the stuporous materialism that most Amerikans embrace as the Meaning of Life. Advertising is nothing more than the promotion of materialism. The advertiser's job is to convert the infidel consumer into an unquestioning konspicuous konsumption klone. The advertiser must seduce the consumer into placing his faith in *things.* Life is not a spiritual journey, but a shopping journey. And the Amerikan is the greatest, most pathetic shopper of all. From cradle to grave he or she obediently pushes a cart up and down the aisles, then, at the end, he or she brings his or her cart through the Great White Check-Out Line, where the Great God Cashier totals up his or her lifetime of purchases. . .and only the Great God Cashier knows the magickal dollar amount that signifies the shopper has led a righteous konsumer life. The advertiser is, of course, a liar. He must paint a false picture of his product in order to entice the konsumer. Anyone who has ever seen a beer commercial should take it for granted that advertisers are liars. There is no valid reason to drink beer. . .unless, one supposes, you can see no other way to escape awful, soul-killing Amerikan konsumerism (perhaps this is why so many grimy street alcoholics seem closer to God than the freshly deodorized, impeccably attired 9 - 5 Amerikan Automaton?). In any event, the Amerikan konsumer does not care that he or she is lied to. They love the material lie. It is what they have freely chosen to devote their life to. The Amerikan Dream. Kevin also informed me that my fellow journalist, "JQ [John Quinn] is largely in the business of speculative slander." And, he advised me: "You too, if you're a believer in world-wide conspiracies. " In another letter to NewsHawk recipient Bob Ammann and copied to me, Kevin states: " I urge you to take extreme care with how you view the opinions and writings of the eternal doomsayers, fear mongers and (one world) conspiracy theorists of this world. They contribute almost nothing of benefit to society." He further states that "Conspiracies do exist but not on the levels to which the theorists would want you to believe." Apparently he was admonishing Mr. Ammann to beware of what he calls the "propaganda" being spread by writers such as myself and John Quinn. Kevin Gagan has spoken So listen up folks ! For those who have ears to hear: Caveat Emptor! Kevin Gagan spices up his letter to Ammann with a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche: "He who fights with monsters must take care lest he become a monster." First of all, I must admit I've never been a fan of Nietzsche -one of the idols of Adolph Hitler. And I don't need a long-dead philosopher to tell me what it's like to engage in a real life battle with monsters. Nor for that matter, do I need the unsolicited advice of a college student, most likely still wet behind the ears. For me, fighting the monsters has been a lifelong mission of nearly half a century. And I might add that the fight was not only for my own freedom; but for my very survival. Far be it from me to contradict the profound wisdom of Gagan or Nietzsche: But in my humble opinion, as far as I can tell, there's no substitute for plain old personal experience. Excellent article! There was a similar article by the Reform Party's candidate for President before Pat B. became that party's candidate. I've written my Representative and both Senators from Colorado about this bill. They say they are looking into it ... yeah right! This is a great problem in the "free market," it is not free and the WTO makes it even less free. More people should get involved in this. Rather than having an ineffective Million Mom March about gun control, we should have demonstrations in every city and town in the US, maybe have a general strike of all working people and many business people to show the government that this is a very important issue. A private organization should have no authority to deal with money, it should be Congress as dictated in the Constitution. Why should Alan Greenspan (a non-elected official) have control of interest rates, pure bullshit ... raising interest rates to curb inflation is just the same as F***ing for virginity. This may be the single biggest issue in getting government to do their job as assigned in the Constitution. Why do we have a Constitution if those who run government are going to ignore it? I wish I had some clear instructions about how to get in the government's face. Writing to Congress seems to get little or no response, but maybe if enough people would write ... maybe, just maybe it would make a difference. Writing to the local paper doesn't seem to do much good either, but I'm not going to give up, maybe some day one of the editors/reporters I write to won't have a story and they will write an article about the Federal Reserve, a long shot, but maybe it might happen. "Juanita Broaddrick was notified last week that she is being audited for tax returns that were filed covering 1998," revealed the Drudge Report late Sunday. NewsMax.com has been unable to confirm the Broaddrick audit shocker. A call to her Van Buren, Ark., home Sunday night went unanswered. But if it's true - if indeed Clinton rape accuser Juanita Broaddrick has been hit by an audit - she would be the third of four women who accused Bill Clinton of trying to force them into sex to come under IRS scrutiny. Paula Jones alleged that Clinton exposed himself to her in a Little Rock hotel room in 1991. Weapons, oil and computer technology all offer high rates of return, but there is probably no sector of the economy so abloom with money as the privately-run prison industry. Consider the growth of the Corrections Corporation of America, the industry leader whose stock price has climbed from $8 a share in 1992 to about $30 today and whose revenue rose by 81 percent in 1995 alone. Investors in Wackenhut Corrections Corp. have enjoyed an average return of 18 per cent during the past five years and the company is rated by Forbes as one of the top 200 small businesses in the country. At Esmor, another big private prison contractor, revenues have soared from $4.6 million in 1990 to more than $25 million in 1995. Ten years ago there were just five privately-run prisons in the country, housing a population of 2,000. Today nearly a score of private firms run more than 100 prisons with about 62,000 beds. Thatâs still less than five per cent of the total market but the industry is expanding fast, with the number of private prison beds expected to grow to 360,000 during the next decade. The exhilaration among leaders and observers of the private prison sector was cheerfully summed up by the headline in USA Today: "Everybody's doing the jailhouse stock." An equally upbeat mood imbued a conference on private prisons held last December at the Four Seasons Resort in Dallas. The brochure of the conference, organized by the World Research Group, a New York-based investment firm, called the corporate takeover of correctional facilities the "newest trend in the area of privatizing previously government-run programs... While arrests and convictions are steadily on the rise, profits are to be made, profits from crime. Get in on the ground floor of this booming industry now!" A hundred years ago private prisons were a familiar feature of American life, with disastrous consequences. Prisoners were farmed out as slave labor. They were routinely beaten and abused, fed slop and kept in horribly overcrowded cells. Conditions were so wretched that by the end of the nineteenth century private prisons were outlawed in most states. During the past decade, private prisons have made a comeback. Already 28 states have passed legislation making it legal for private contractors to run correctional facilities and many more states are expected to follow suit. The reasons for the rapid expansion include the post-1980s free-market ideological fervor, large budget deficits for the federal and state governments and the discovery and creation of vast new reserves of "raw materials", prisoners. The rate for most serious crimes has been dropping or stagnant for the past 15 years, but during the same period severe repeat offender provisions and a racist "get-tough" policy on drugs have helped push the US prison population up from 300,000 to about 1.5 million. This has produced a corresponding boom in prison construction and costs, with the federal government's annual expenditures in the area of $17 billion. In California, passage of the infamous "three strikes" bill will result in the construction of an additional 20 prisons during the next few years. The private prison business is most entrenched at the state level but is expanding into the federal prison system as well. Last year Attorney General Janet Reno announced that five of seven new federal prisons being built will be run by the private sector. Almost all of the prisons run by private firms are low or medium security, but the companies are trying to break into the high-security field. They have also begun taking charge of management in INS detention centers, boot camps for juvenile offenders and substance abuse programs. Roughly half of the industry is controlled by the Nashville-based Corrections Corporation of America, which runs 46 penal institutions in 11 states. It took ten years for the company to reach 10,000 beds; it is now growing by the same number every year. CCA's chief competitor is Wackenhut, which was founded in 1954 by George Wackenhut, a former FBI official. Dougherty © 2000 WorldNetDaily.com An Ohio state judge has thrown out a case against a 29-year-old pizza delivery driver arrested last fall for carrying a concealed handgun, ruling that the state's law governing the right to use and carry a handgun for protection is flawed and "unconstitutional." In his May 22 decision, Judge Thomas Crush said delivery man Patrick Feely -- arrested last September for carrying a gun under his shirt -- had a constitutional right to protect himself while working a job with a high risk for robbery. He then threw out the charges against Feely. According to a Cincinnati Enquirer report, Crush said Ohio's concealed weapons law is flawed because it does not distinguish between criminals and people who carry guns for their own protection. Feely said he felt threatened and endangered because his job frequently took him to high-crime neighborhoods and he often carried cash. Consequently, he said, he bought a gun about five years ago for self-defense. When he was arrested, he was also carrying a knife, police said. "Everybody nowadays needs some kind of protection from criminals," Feely said Tuesday, following the favorable ruling. "You need to be able to defend yourself." The problem has to do with an inherent conflict in Ohio law. Although the Ohio Constitution allows citizens to carry a gun to protect life and property, state law prohibits people from carrying a concealed weapon under any circumstances. Noting that, under existing law, citizens must go on trial to prove whether or not they carried their firearm legally, Crush, in his ruling, said, "An honest person in a difficult or dangerous job must subject himself to trial like a criminal. It's treating decent citizens like criminals." Crush also said law-abiding citizens in Ohio ought to be permitted to carry a concealed weapon, but that it was up to state legislators to make that decision. Nevertheless, he believes lawmakers should address the discrepancy before others are caught in a similar dilemma. At the time of his arrest, Feely was working for a Cincinnati company that supplies pizza, subs and sandwiches to street vendors. Police had stopped his car for an expired license plate and noticed a knife in the vehicle. When the officer asked whether he had any other weapons, Feely told him about the gun. Hamilton County Prosecutor Mike Allen said the police officer acted appropriately when he arrested the delivery driver, but he agreed the law may need some fine tuning. Canada dismantles 'Big Brother' files United Press International - May 29, 2000 21:46 OTTAWA, May 29 (UPI) -- Canada's human resources minister said Monday she was dismantling a huge data bank containing thousands pieces of information on Canadian citizens. Jane Stewart's announcement came after an outcry from the public and opposition members of Parliament. The existence of the files became public about two weeks ago when Privacy Commissioner Bruce Phillips expressed concern that the privacy of Canadians may be compromised. The data bank reportedly contained information on 33 million Canadians, including ethnicity, movements in and out of Canada or from province to province and sensitive data about taxes they paid and their health. The Canadian media immediately dubbed the data bank the "Big Brother files," borrowing a term from George Orwell, who warned in his novel "1984" that the state would have the capacity to spy on every one of its own citizens. Opposition MPs in the House of Commons wanted to know why the government needed the data bank. Two weeks ago, Stewart said the files were needed for policy research purposes, but assured the House of Commons that the information was being closely guarded and would not fall into the wrong hands. Nevertheless, reports appeared in the media that the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police had gained access to the files. Quebec demanded that files on its citizens be destroyed immediately, while some 18,000 Canadians reportedly called to ask the department what kind of information it was holding on them. Monday, Stewart bowed to public pressure, saying she was dismantling what she called the Longitudinal Labor Force Files. She acknowledged there were "public concerns about pricacy in this era of constantly changing technology," and said she had "chosen an approach that addresses future threats to privacy." The process of dismantling "began this morning," she said, "with the elimination of the computer programs we commenced with the information from the Canada Customs and Revenue agency and data on social assistance from provincial and territorial governments." "Information from the Canada Customs and Revenue agency was sent back to that agency this morning," she said. Clinton did his practiced lip-biting, jaw-jutting, somber impersonation of a commander in chief in the final Memorial Day observances of his second term. His performance was a doozy. "Americans never fought for empire, for territory, for dominance, but many, many Americans gave their lives for freedom," he said. Of course, Bill Clinton was not one of these Americans. Not only did he not give his life in service to his country, he refused to even give his service. The irony of watching this man involved in wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery would be laughable if it wasn't so tragic. But it wasn't so much Clinton's scripted comments at the event yesterday that ticked me off. Rather, it was the new Memorial Day marketing gimmick dreamed up by some genius at the White House. Did you catch what Bill Clinton asked Americans to do in honor of our fallen American military heroes? He urged them to participate in a "National Moment of Remembrance" for those who died in service to their country -- a "National Moment of Remembrance." Now let me dissect that for ... yeah, a moment. Do you think the men who died fighting for this country's freedom in the last 200 years would appreciate Bill Clinton even being involved in ceremonies in their behalf? Do you think the survivors of those men would appreciate the fact that they no longer have even one full national day of remembrance for their loved ones and the sacrifice they made, but only a moment? Do you think it would be possible to ask any less of Americans on behalf of these brave men than mere "remembrance"? Notice he didn't ask for a day of tribute. He didn't ask for a day of prayer. He didn't ask for an hour of remembrance. He didn't even ask for a moment of silence. Just a moment of remembrance. What else should we have expected from Clinton? Sincerity? Propriety? Of course not. Clinton adopted the campaign to designate literally one minute -- from 3 p.m. to 3:01 p.m. yesterday -- "to raise awareness and unite the nation in acknowledging the contributions made by the men and women who gave their lives for our country's freedom." One day is too much, I guess. Now we've only got one minute a year to "remember" our fallen heroes. It's sickening. How can Americans stand by, shake their heads and tacitly accept such a degrading concept? Maybe they just don't take it seriously any more. That's possible. After all, no one believes that Clinton actually tells the truth about anything. It's all a big show. He's constantly reinventing himself in a cascading torrent of disingenuousness. In other words, he lies. He lies about anything and everything -- for good reason and for no reason. A perfect example occurred last Thursday but got very little attention over the holiday weekend. Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda ran into Clinton at the Sons of Italy Foundation dinner at the National Building Museum in Washington. Lasorda spoke first -- explaining that he never voted for Clinton. "My father was a Republican, and his father was a Republican," Lasorda said. "So someone once asked me, 'If your father was a thief, and his father was a thief, would that make you a thief?' I said, 'That would make me a Democrat.'" Pretty good line. Of course, some of us believe there are plenty of thieves in both parties. But a few minutes later, Clinton takes the podium and makes no comment on Lasorda's barbs. Instead, he says something quite amazing. "I'd like to recognize one of my heroes since I was a kid -- Tommy Lasorda," he told audience members. After his speech, a beaming Clinton darted over to Lasorda: "Hey, how ya doing? I am so glad to see you," the president said, giving Lasorda a bear hug. So what is so amazing about that statement? Well, it reminds me of the statement Clinton once made regarding his childhood memories of churches burning in Arkansas when he was a kid. Neither memory has any truth to it whatsoever. No Arkansas churches burned when Bill Clinton was a kid. Nor could Clinton have possibly looked up to Lasorda as a childhood hero. Why? Lasorda pitched in the major leagues between 1954 and 1956. He appeared in a total of 26 games. In his best year, 1956, he lost all four of his decisions. He never won a major league game. What is more alarming is Clinton's mindset regarding our nuclear policy. He seems willing to reduce our offensive nuclear capabilities while blocking efforts to develop a comprehensive nuclear missile defense shield. In fact, Clinton is even reluctant to go ahead with a limited national defense system, apparently out of fear that such a system could set off a cold-war-style arms race between China, India and Pakistan. Well, what do you think China, India and Pakistan are doing now? This is not the same world that existed in 1972 when the United States entered into the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty with the Soviet Union. We were the world's only nuclear superpowers, and strategic stability was based on the premise of mutually assured destruction (MAD) that each of the nations would respond in kind in the event of a nuclear attack by the other. Missile defense could arguably interfere with the peace, by removing the nuclear deterrent. Today we are vulnerable to nuclear attack by an ever-increasing number of hostile nations. Assuming the questionable MAD policy ever had merit, it is certainly outmoded today. I have a novel idea for Clinton that could help him with his all-important legacy and enhance the national security of the United States at the same time. He should remove all barriers, especially his own, to the development and deployment of a comprehensive nuclear missile shield. SDI? Libya is also interested in procuring the longer-range North Korean ballistic missile with a range of 1300 kilometers which is the original model for Iran's long-range Shihab-3 missile, the Israeli daily Ha'aretz reported on Monday. Libya continues to build its arsenal of Scud missiles. On April 6, Swiss authorities seized a cargo of Scud missiles parts bound for Libya. Swiss airport police arrested an unnamed 44-year-old Taiwanese businessman travelling through Hong Kong and Zurich to Tripoli after they found mechanical parts in his suitcase, later identified as components for a propulsion device for Scud missiles. According to the report, North Korea also plans to sell the Scud D to Egypt. Western intelligence sources told Ha'aretz that Egypt may also be producing medium-range Scud C missiles. Syria already possesses the Russian-made Scud B missile with a range of 300 kilometers. Based on Russian technology, North Korea then developed the Scud C missile with a range of 500 kilometers. Scuds were used by Iraq in attacks on Israel during the 1991 Gulf War. Ha'aretz reported that Syria has begun assembling the parts of Scud D missiles in a local factory established by the North Koreans. It is unclear whether Syria has begun producing Scud D parts itself or uses only parts imported from North Korea. It is also not known if the payload of the Scud D missile differs from the Scud B or Scud C or if its guidance system is more accurate. But intelligence sources estimate that Damascus now has the capability to produce some of its own missile parts for the estrimated arsenal of at least 300 missiles and 26 launchers, as well as dummy launchers. All the missiles possess chemical warheads. Iran continues to supply Damascus with rocket fuels for the Syrian missile arsenal. In a related development, South Korean President Kim Dae-jung said Monday he would raise Japan's concern over the North Korean missile program during the first summit meeting with North Korea scheduled to be held in Pyongyang on June 12-14. Bill Clinton's most famous pants drop is not quite as old as the Queen Mum but, like the BBC, no U.S. network wanted to mark its birthday. It was on May 8, 1991, that the then Governor of Arkansas had Paula Jones brought up to his suite in the Excelsior Hotel in Little Rock, dropped his trousers, and invited his subordinate to "kiss it." Feel free to sprinkle the last sentence with as many "allegedlys" as you want, but, given the 800,000 bucks he and Hillary have had to pony up to Paula and the additional 90,000 he was fined by a Federal judge for contempt of court, I don't think the President's likely to be launching any further legal actions at the moment. Anyway, like the Queen Mum, the King Bum has put in many long years of service to the nation. Hardly a moment passes when a case arising from a prosecution arising from a deposition arising from an appeal arising from a judgment arising from a suit arising from what Paula saw arise in that motel room all those years ago is not working its way through some court somewhere. The ninth anniversary itself passed quietly enough, save for the news that Penthouse had offered Mrs. Jones $100,000 to take her clothes off. I was going to do a mean-spirited joke about giving her $200,000 to put 'em back on again, but then I saw a picture of Paula and she looks pretty good these days. There's a gal you'd want to drop your pants to, were it not for the cautionary tale of Mr. Clinton. Whatever Paula's somewhat unflattering testimony about the President's "distinguishing characteristics," they cast long shadows. Those chaos theorists yakking on about the butterfly flapping its wings have a far more persuasive example in the case of Governor Butterball flapping his fly. Last week was typical: On Monday, the Disciplinary Committee of the Arkansas Supreme Court recommended that William Jefferson Clinton, attorney-at-law, be disbarred; on Wednesday, the State of Maryland dropped its prosecution of Linda Tripp for wiretapping. Good news for Linda, bad news for Bill. But both cases are spin-offs of the Paula show: Linda taped Monica because she was being coerced to commit perjury in the Paula case; Bill's "serious misconduct" (as the Arkansas committee put it) occurred because he did commit perjury in the Paula case. The fallout from Clinton's pants never ends. So, in the next month or thereabouts, the petition to disbar will be sent to the Pulaski County Circuit Court, and the President could lose his licence to practise law, which he seems to regard mainly as a licence to practice breaking the law. "It's not right," said Mr. Clinton. "Even if you assume what the judge says is right, which I strongly disagree with." The President's idea of a judge is Morris Thompson, who might have been expected to look more kindly on Mr. Clinton's difficulties. But sadly Judge Thompson is unable to hear the President's case: This month, he became the first Arkansas judge to be removed from the bench -- for practising law on the side, illegally switching licence plates, and writing 59 bad cheques. Geez, how ethical do you have to be to be a judge in Arkansas? But, alas for the President, spurred on by Ken Starr's successful Whitewater prosecutions down there, the state's judicial establishment is in squeaky-cleaner-than-thou mode. Eight of the 14-member disciplinary committee had to recuse themselves because of their ties to the President. The remaining six, however, were unimpressed by the brief filed by his lawyers, in which they vigorously defended the famous presidential distinction that oral sex does not count as "sexual relations" -- a line that didn't play quite as well in the Arkansas Disciplinary Committee as it did in the U.S. Senate. Mr. Clinton's defenders back in Washington are outraged. Just over a year ago, during impeachment, they were saying that, whatever the President may or may not have done, it should be dealt with not in Congress but in the courts. Now the courts are dealing with it, the Clinton crowd are shocked, shocked. But, as they like to put it, what do you expect from those redneck bozos in Arkansas? Obviously, they wouldn't understand that oral sex doesn't count as sexual relations because down there everything counts as sexual relations unless it's sex with your relations. The President is understood to be reluctant to advance this argument because he still has hopes of running for the Senate from Arkansas in 2002. Slowly, far from the lens of an indifferent media, Bill Clinton's chicks are coming home to roost. (the 'meat' is in paragraph five) Official Lies on TWA 800 Exposed Reed Irvine May 26, 2000 The recently released FBI reports of their interviews of eyewitnesses to the downing of TWA Flight 800 contain enough dynamite to blow the lid off the FBI-NTSB-CIA-DOD cover-up of the cause of the crash of TWA Flight 800 on July 17, 1996.The FBI wouldnt even let the NTSB investigators see these reports for a long time. When they finally sent copies of 756 eyewitness reports to the NTSB, they were in great disarray, causing a further delay in their release to the public. The NTSB recently made them available, together with related documents, on a CD-ROM. These can now be found on Cmdr. William S. Donaldsons web site, www.TWA800.com. This is a treasure trove for anyone interested in getting the truth about the TWA 800 crash. Hundreds of eyewitnesses saw TWA Flight 800 crash off the southern coast of Long Island, and what they saw was widely reported by the print and electronic media at the time. The FBI took control of the investigation and refused to let the NTSB interview eyewitnesses. No eyewitnesses were permitted to testify at the NTSB public hearing on the TWA crash in Dec. 1997, and the FBI would not permit any discussion of the 244 eyewitness reports it had shared with the CIA. The CIA used them to produce a video simulation of the crash. James Kallstrom, who headed the FBI investigation, said the questioning of eyewitnesses "would have the unintentional effect of undermining the CIAs work." Now the CIAs work is undermined by the FBI eyewitness reports, together with appendix FF, a transcript of an NTSB witness group discussion on how the CIA decided that all the eyewitnesses who said they saw anything resembling a missile were wrong. An unidentified CIA analyst said they had been trying to figure out what source there could be for the streak of light that 260 eyewitnesses said they had seen. At 10 p.m. on Dec. 30, 1996, he got the idea "that you can explain what the eyewitnesses are seeing with only the burning aircraft." Eureka! Claim that everyone mistook the burning aircraft for a missile that caused it to blow up, and that gets rid of the problem created by those 260 eyewitnesses who saw a streak of light. "Analyst" based his great idea on the FBI reports on their interviews of one eyewitness, who, he said, "may be one eyewitness" who saw the entire incident. That one eyewitness is Michael Wire, a machinery expert who was working on a new drawbridge on Beach Lane, a road running from Westhampton, Long Island, to the beach. Wires FBI report says that standing on the bridge, looking toward the beach, he saw a white light just above the rooftop of a house about 900 feet away, ascending from the ground at about a 40-degree angle. It "sparkled," and he thought it was fireworks. It "zig zagged" as it traveled upward and was going south-southeast when it "arched over" and disappeared from view. Two or three seconds later he saw an orange light that appeared to be a fireball in the sky about half a mile away. It was falling at about a 30-degree angle, with a fire trail burning behind it. According to Wire, the fireball disappeared behind a house two houses away from the one where he saw the white light. He then heard the first and loudest of four explosions. It shook the bridge. Eight or nine seconds later he heard two more explosions followed by a fourth a second later. "Analyst" says that Wire was one of the few eyewitnesses who saw TWA 800, minus its nose, climbing 3000 feet. That does not appear in Wires interview, and he told me that is not true. He said he saw the plane blow up and immediately go down. He believes that what he saw was a missile and that the theory that a fuel explosion initiated the crash is false. "Analyst" said that CIAs analysis was driven largely by Wire, "who gave us reference points," the house behind which he had seen "a white light for about 15 seconds" and the other house behind which "a small fireball" disappeared from view. "He was an important eyewitness to us," he said. The CIA never showed Michael Wise the video they claim he inspired and asked if it portrays what he saw. They have never spoken to him. So What Do We Do Now About Corporate Power? compiled by George Draffan © Public Information Network, PO Box 95316, Seattle WA 98145-2316 Despite constant popular resistance, and an occasional judicial blow limiting corporate power (such as the 1892 Illinois Central case), the rise of corporate power has been a dismal history. The overwhelming weight of American law has supported property over democracy, corporations over family enterprise, and big government over local control. Regulation shields corporations, and restricts citizens rather than corporations. The question before us today is no longer about tinkering with regulations, or appealing to corporate responsibility, or to common sense and common virtue. Corporations (or regulatory agencies, for that matter) don't have common sense or virtue; they are not persons. Corporations are legal fictions designed for economic profit. Corporations should not have the civic and political powers granted to them by court after court. The governments created to protect our interests have destroyed our sovereignty, and joined with corporations to create the Corporate State. Power without accountability os tyranny. What are the arenas in and processes by which we can truly change the status quo? How can we remove the regulatory and administrative obstacles to defining the nature and powers of corporations? How can we reclaim our civic and political power from corporations, and restore our sovereignty? Some arenas of sovereignty include, but are not limited to: Constitutional amendment. State corporate codes. Federal chartering. State corporation charter requirements revocations. Corporate certificates of authority to operate. Quo warranto actions (by what authority does a corporation exist?). Recall of state and federal officials and legislative representatives who fail to define and control corporations according to the will of the people. Initiative referendum. Voluntary charters adopted by forward-thinking corporate directors. Broadening the public forums for debate among the legal community, local communities, and the general public. How will these processes be used to define and control corporations, to define what corporations can be and do? The following have been, in some cases still are active law, in various places, from California to Wisconsin to New Jersey: Defining the goals of corporations (subordination of profit to public interest). Controlling the means and ends of production. Defining the chartering and revocation processes. Requiring that violation of a corporate charter leads to mandatory revocation of that charter. Prohibiting corporations from exercising civic and political "rights" -- no corporate "personhood". Strict liability of shareholders, managers, directors. Limiting the length of corporate existence. Controlling the intra-corporation relations between managers, directors and shareholders (for example, scaled voting, and corporate books open to shareholders). Ensuring the right and duty of the state to amend and revoke charters for abuse or misuse. Prohibiting corporations from owning stock in other corporations. Limiting real estate holdings and capital accumulations to those necessary for actual corporate purposes. Prohibiting corporations from operating under pseudonyms. Prohibiting harm to the public or its resources. Today we would extend these prohibitions to include zero toxics, requiring environmentally-friendly materials and processes, and full recycling of waste materials. Requiring periodic audits for health, safety and environment, conducted by parties chosen by workers and communities, with findings and recommendations binding on the corporation. No audit privileges. No escape from liability. Defining and controlling the use of bankruptcy to escape liability. Establishing a maximum ratio between the salaries of the highest-paid executives and the lowest paid workers. Giving state courts authority to hear all corporation cases. Guaranteeing the rights of shareholders and citizens to charter and revoke charters. Restricting the location of corporate headquarters and annual meetings. Restricting the residence of shareholders to the state in which the corporation operates Opening corporation books to legislative and public scrutiny: full disclosure as a requirement for incorporation and continued corporate existence. Ongoing legislative oversight over corporations. Prohibiting corporations from any participation in political campaigns and discourse. Zero civil rights. Thus spake New York State's highest court in its 1890 unanimous finding against the North River Sugar Refining Corporation: charter revoked; out of business; capital punishment for corporations. When I studied U.S. history, no text or teacher mentioned such decisions, much less how common they were during our first hundred years or so. As a young teacher myself, I knew nothing of legislation, attorneys general and judges calling corporations to answer to "quo warranto" -- by what authority has this or that railroad or utility or banking or turnpike corporation violated its charter, and failed in the performance of its corporate duties," to quote the North River judgment. When declared "ultra vires," beyond their authority, corporations frequently found their charters amended or revoked. However, the New York State revocation was one of the last, coming just four years after the U.S. Supreme Court declared corporations "natural persons" under the law. With so-called personhood came constitutional rights, accelerating the "legal" erosion of our sovereignty. Increasingly over the past century, "we the people" have become subordinate to the entities created to do our business. When it comes to defining and enforcing the conditions of corporate existence, human beings have been declared ultra vires. Take Massachusetts. Its first chartered private corporation was the Massachusetts Bank, incorporated in 1782 by a special act of the state Legislature, according to Neil Benman in his research for the Program on Corporations, Law and Democracy. The bank's charter limited its authorized capital and described how it should be governed, among other provisions, and the legislature reserved the right to examine bank affairs, including its books. Today our elected representatives give tax breaks to corporations in hopes that they won't flit off to greener pastures. Along with citizens of the other 49, we've lost our sovereignty in the 50-state sweepstakes to curry corporate favor. We've come a long way, baby -- in the wrong direction. To understand how far, picture "Big Tobacco," as the media corporations have personified and nicknamed the mega-corporations that produce smoking materials. Despite a trail of corporate records withheld, testimony perjured and additives designed to addict, our public officials from the president on down continue to dicker and bicker with Big T, all the while pocketing "his" campaign contributions (protected by the Supreme Court as equivalent to political speech). The issue is not simply corporate harms to our bodies, but to our body politic; not only corporate behavior but the very relationship between a supposedly sovereign citizenry and its institutions. Commentators and politicians huff and puff (well perhaps only huff) about good ol' boy Big T, but they're all bluff. Which of them asks "Where do the people's representatives get off, negotiating with corporations instead of defining and enforcing the limits corporate entities must observe? For that matter, who even knows about the original relationship in this country between citizens and our legal fictions? Actually, corporate lawyers do, since their job is to protect the power, authority and wealth that rightly belongs to real human beings. Consider these typical headlines: "Cigarette maker will cooperate with probe" (kinda makes you want to write Big T a thank-you note); or "Tobacco ads turn ire on Congress" (look out, Big T's angry). Speaking of ads, the average U.S. resident reportedly sees an average of 21,000 a year. Corporate advertising is not only protected by the First Amendment, but deductible from the paltry taxes corporations pay. Hence the grotesquerie of tobacco corporations threatening to sue Uncle Sam over restrictions on their advertising, while we taxpayers subsidize the colonization of our minds, and our children's. Consumers are free to make decisions within the increasingly restricted options offered by banking, insurance, media, health care, manufacturing, food-producing, transportation, and communications corporations. Magazine: The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science; July 1998 CHRISTIAN VIOLENCE IN AMERICA - ABSTRACT: As the millennium approaches, the wave of antimodernism that has brought violent movements of religious nationalism in its wake around the world has arrived at America's shores. In the United States, attacks on abortion clinics, the killing of abortion clinic staff, and the destructive acts of members of Christian militia movements are chilling examples of assaults on the legitimacy of modern social and political institutions, based on the theological frameworks of reconstruction theology and Christian Identity thinking. These examples of Christian militancy present a religious perception of warfare and struggle in what is perhaps the most modern of twentieth-century societies. The secular political order of America is imagined to be trapped in vast satanic conspiracies involving spiritual and personal control. This perception provides Christian activists with both the justification and the obligation to use violent means to fulfill their understanding of the country's Christian mission--and at the same time offers a formidable critique of Enlightenment society and a reassertion of the primacy of religion in public life. The Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1978 heralded a new kind of religiously motivated political violence and protest, a wave of disaffection from modern forms of secular political authority throughout the world that ultimately reached American shores. Writing in 1993, I could characterize this as largely a Third World, postcolonial phenomenon (Juergensmeyer 1993, 19-20). As the millennium approaches, however, this wave of antimodernism has increasingly come to such industrialized and thoroughly modern countries as Japan, which suffered a nerve gas attack in Tokyo subways by the Aum Shinrikyo religious movement; France, where militant supporters of the Islamic Party in Algeria have placed bombs in Parisian subways; and, perhaps most surprising, the United States, where the bombing of the World Trade Center, attacks on abortion clinics and the killing of abortion clinic staff, and the destruction of the Oklahoma City federal building are chilling examples of assaults on the legitimacy of modern social and political institutions. The examples of Christian militancy in America are especially noteworthy, for they present a religious perception of warfare and struggle in what is perhaps the most modern of twentieth-century societies. It is not totally uncharacteristic of Christianity to have a violent side, of course: the bloody history of the faith--the Crusades, the Inquisition, and the holy wars--has provided images as disturbing as those provided by Islam, Hinduism, or Sikhism. What is significant about the recent forms of Christian violence is not so much the violence as the ideology that lies behind it: the perception that the secular social and political order of America is caught up in satanic conspiracies of spiritual and personal control. These perceived plots provide Christian activists with reasons for using violent means. The social history of Christianity--and theological positions based ultimately on the Bible--provide legitimacy for the worldviews of a variety of contemporary Christian subcultures. Some of them emerged from mainstream denominations; others are fiercely independent from traditional forms of organized Christianity. In the case of recent attacks on abortion clinics, the theological justification and the social vision associated with it are firmly rooted in Protestant reformation theology. Such is the position of the Reverend Michael Bray, for instance. He is a Lutheran pastor who has been convicted of a series of abortion clinic attacks and defends the use of lethal weapons against abortion clinic staff. ABORTION CLINIC BOMBINGS The Reverend Bray recalled that it was "a cold February night" in 1984 when he and a friend drove a yellow Honda from his home in Bowie to nearby Dover, Delaware. The trunk of the car held a cargo of ominous supplies: a cinder block to break a window, cans of gasoline to pour in and around a building, and rags and matches to ignite the flames. The road to Delaware was foggy that night, and the bridge across the Chesapeake Bay was icy. The car skidded and a minor accident occurred, but the pair was determined to forge ahead. "Before daybreak," Bray recalled, "the only abortion chamber in Dover was gutted by fire and put out of the business of butchering babies" (Bray 1994, 9). The following year, Bray and two other defendants stood trial for destroying seven abortion facilities in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia, totaling over $1 million in damages. BY SEYMOUR HERSH ___ I -- THE WAR ACCOLADES Barry McCaffrey has the best resume of any retired combat general in the United States Army. The son of a distinguished general, he attended Phillips Academy, in Andover, Massachusetts, and West Point, and in 1966 was assigned to South Vietnam as a platoon leader. He served two combat tours, winning two Distinguished Service Crosses, two Silver Stars, and three Purple Hearts. He returned from Vietnam with a shattered left arm, which was saved only after two years of operations and rehabilitation. McCaffrey's career continued to be exemplary: he earned a master's degree, taught at West Point, and, as he moved up through the ranks, became an outspoken leader within the Army for women's rights and the rights of minorities. He had, as the journalist Rick Atkinson has noted, "the chiseled good looks of a recruiting poster warrior: hooded eyes; dark, dense brows; a clean, strong jawline; hair thick and gun-metal gray." He radiated command presence. In June of 1990, as a two-star major general, McCaffrey was put in charge of the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized), at Fort Stewart, Georgia. He was then forty-seven, and the Army's youngest division commander. Two months later, Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, and McCaffrey took the 24th's tanks, guns, and more than eighteen thousand soldiers (eventually, there were twenty-six thousand) from its home base to Saudi Arabia in preparation for the Persian Gulf War. The 24th's mission was to drive more than two hundred miles into Iraq -- the famed "left hook" maneuver -- and block the retreat of Iraqi forces from the war zone in Kuwait. In an account written after the war, U.S. News World Report praised McCaffrey for leading what one officer called "the greatest cavalry charge in history." More promotions came McCaffrey's way, and he eventually earned four stars, the Army's highest peacetime rank. McCaffrey announced his retirement from the Army in January of 1996, when President Clinton brought him into the Cabinet as the director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. In that position, McCaffrey serves as the architect of and main spokesman for the Clinton Administration's $1.6-billion plan to provide, among other things, more training and weapons for the Colombian Army in an effort to cut drug production and export. The Iraqis offered only disorganized and ragged opposition to the American invasion, in February of 1991, and the much feared ground war quickly turned into a bloody rout, with many of the retreating Iraqi units, including the elite Republican Guard, being pounded by American aircraft, artillery, and tanks as they fled north in panic along a six-lane road from Kuwait City to Basra, the major military stronghold in southern Iraq. The road became littered with blackened tanks, trucks, and bodies; the news media called it the "highway of death." The devastation, which was televised around the world, became a symbol of the extent of the Iraqi defeat -- and of American military superiority -- and it was publicly cited as a factor in President George Bush's decision, on February 28th, to declare a cessation of hostilities, ending the killing, and to call for peace talks. That decision, which is still controversial today, enabled Saddam's Army to survive the war with many units intact, and helped keep the regime in power. In "The Generals' War," by Michael R. Gordon and Bernard E. Trainor, Bush explained that he and his advisers were concerned about two aspects of the situation: "If we continued the fighting another day, until the ring was completely closed, would we be accused of a slaughter of Iraqis who were simply trying to escape, not fight? In addition, the coalition was agreed on driving the Iraqis from Kuwait, not on carrying the conflict into Iraq or on destroying Iraqi forces." The ground war had lasted one hundred hours, and there had been a total of seventy-nine American deaths, eight of them in McCaffrey's 24th Division. On the morning of March 2nd, a day before the Iraqis and the Allied coalition were scheduled to begin formal peace talks, McCaffrey reported that, despite the ceasefire, his division had suddenly come under attack from a retreating Republican Guard tank division off Highway 8 west of Basra, near the Rumaila oil field. The Iraqis were driving toward a causeway over Lake Hammar, one of five exit routes from the Euphrates River Valley to the safety of Baghdad. Overriding a warning from the division operations officer, McCaffrey ordered an assault in force -- an all-out attack. His decision stunned some officers in the Allied command structure in Saudi

In other words, after Kevin Spacey was "liberated from wage slavery" (with a guaranteed income of 60k, just as will *everyone* in The RICH Economy), he fell into all this vice that the "holier then thou", "my shit don't stink", morality police are always freaking out about. [1] So basically he began smoking dope again; he wanted to bone the cheerleader again (and began working out in hopes that he one day would); and curiously, he also took a lowly wage slave position in a burger joint that most 'respectable' people his age wouldn't consider accepting, even if they were about homeless and starving. Why did he take this seemingly degrading wage slave position almost as soon as he was liberated from wage slavery? He didn't *need* the 'money'. I'm sure he didn't need the stares and glares of customers who must have wondered why someone of his age and seeming intelligence was working there, and so on, and so forth. (True he was stoned when he applied, but if that was the only reason, he would have quit when the high wore off. Something else kept him there). IMO, he became a burger-flipping wage slave because he was attempting to get back into that mind-set he had before he was 'forced' to "grow up", "get a real job" and "keep up with the Jones'" (i.e., "notice that the colors of my wife's clogs, and the handle of cutters match -- this was no accident"). Remember when he was getting stoned for the first time in decades, and he told his cannabis-loving neighbor: when I was your age, all I did that summer was flip burgers, get stoned, and get laid. That's why he took that lowly wage slave job again.
