  * USC has a sharp icon.
  * The review dialog has a blurry icon.

What you should see: Both have the same icon.

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
On a fresh install UBUNTU 11.10. Cannot open the Software center, when
I launch it by command line it display me n error : Erreur de

  Hope to get a solution.

software-center won't update package list automatically

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

  2. Run software-center and select Edit - Software Sources
  3. In software sources dialog, enable universe sources, quit dialog by
selecting Close
   - Note: Software center won't update package list automatically
  5. Select a universe package (eg 7zip)

Instead of updating the previously enabled universe package list
automatically, software center offers the user to Use this Source
  (referring to universe source)

This is inconsistent behavior and might be confusing for the user,
since they already activated the universe sources. Moreover, in
previous Ubuntu releases (I am running Maverick), software-center used
to automatically update package list when sources changed.

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 and software-center 5.0.2ubuntu0.1. I'm
attempting to uninstall several packages one after another, they get
added to the queue and begin uninstalling while I keep selecting other
packages. Now, everytime a package finishes uninstalling, the whole
screen refreshes itself, it becomes unusable for a few seconds while I
get the spinning wheel icon and then returns control but having
collapsed all categories instead of remembering where I was.

A possible workaround is to uninstall packages one by one, but that
wold be quite time consuming and one would have to enter the password
for each package. In any case, I think it'd be better if the refresh
didn't happen in such a disruptive way, or at least if it was able to
remember the user's last position within the software tree.

By the way: I'm using Gnome 3 and Unity is uninstalled from my system
(I don't know if that can make any difference).

I wanted to install 'adobe flash'.

I went to software center and found 2 packages: 'adobe flash plugin'
  and 'adobe flash plugin 10'.

I installed the flash plugin via command line: apt-get install adobe-
  flashplugin

Afterwards I went back to software center to check if one of them is
marked as installed, but this was not the case. However 'adobe-
flashplugin' is really installed on my system.

Since the 'adobe-flashplugin' package is the same as the 'adobe flash
plugin 10' package in the software center, it should be marked as
installed (which is not the case).

  Steps: (64-bit Ubuntu 11.10)
  1. Open software center
  2. Search for 'adobe flash': 2 results ('adobe flash plugin' and 'adobe flash
plugin 10')
  3. Notice that both plugins can be installed
  4. (Notice that 'adobe-flashplugin' = 'adobe flash plugin 10')
  5. Open terminal
  6. sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin
  7. Open software center
  8. Search for 'adobe flash' (or 'adobe-flashplugin')
  9. Notice that both results ('adobe flash plugin' and 'adobe flash plugin
10') are still marked as not installed
'adobe flash plugin 10' should be marked as installed

I've attached a screenshot. Looks like a side effect of the new gtk3
height-for-width logic. I'd suggest maybe using a GtkGrid, which
  generally handles layouts better.

It may save time to fix bug 844014 at the same time as this bug.

error 500 or i does not understand why software-center cant download even if
my network works with the browser. So launchpad get flooded by invalid reports.

Users have to be aware of such a case : the different tools
(installer/updater) should detect the different EOL version, and be
able to display a popup message saying something like that version is
no more available, choose a newer ubuntu release; on the other hand
Apport also need to refuse such reports.

Jockey should refresh it's view of the apt cache on frontend queries

Status in “jockey” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Version: 0.9.2-0ubuntu5

Jockey fetches information about what drivers it can install from
extra apt fields. Jockey runs upon login and leaves the backend
running. If you run apt-get update right afterward, the backend isn't
refreshed to have this updated information.

Consequently, running 'jockey-text -l' potentially thinks that no
drivers are available, when this isn't necessarily the case.

I propose that when a frontend queries the backend for supported
drivers, the backend should refresh it's view of the apt cache so that
  this is accurate information.

Bug description:
On my netbook, once I managed to get to a regular KDE desktop,
I clicked on the install aditional drivers to get my broadcom wifi working.

11.10 had this working/ an option to install aditional non free
  software if I recall.

anyway, the big bug here is jockey kept grinding away, and got up to
75 percent complete on it's status bar (maybe 10 minutes) and said it
  didn't work.

Then, I accidentally unplugged the liveusb drive instead of the power cord,
so I lost the jockey error message that I was going to transfer over ethernet.

anyway, jockey should check for internet connection,
and should not progress the status bar if that does not work.

Ideally, it would be best to have these packages on the iso image so
we can connect to the network, because... I don't have a wired
  ethernet network connection!!!

The slowness has been solved since a while now.

Bug description:
Watching a new user install a Network printer takes too long. A
progress bar is shown, and continues to beat back and forth, but the
operation takes so long that the user ends up cancelling the process.

One month early I watched another user do precisely the same
cancellation at the same point while adding the same network printer
  on the same network.

Ideally the progress could be changed from a bouncing bar, to a
progressing bar. This would give a sense of competition, that is
  lacking in the bouncing bar.

It would probably even be tolerable to have a completion bar that
times at the end. This would replace an unknown with a known.
