Thanks for the update, especially the shuffle button.

However, I've just sent one of my SBRx to mySB.com using Squeezepad and
now it's vanished without a trace. Doesn't appear on any menu. I'm just
off to get my SBC to see if I can find it that way. 7.6 btw.

Thanks ! of to the app store for upgrades :)

Btw the password protection in the local sbs server not much of a
security system on the contrary it rather gives the false impression of
protection.
Just turn it off andf forget it( for example it not even ssl encrypted
https , you dont see that padlock in the corner of the browser, no

Back to my original post, with thanks for help.
Have installed SS 7.6.1 and rescanned everything. SB2 still will not
 find play lists.

Are you sure the SB2 is connected to the same server (not mysb.com) as
the SB3 as playlist is on the server all players or no players should
see the playlists if the server can see them are they there in the web
interface ?

Can you select both the SB3 and SB2 from the dropdown list in the
web-UI (hopefully you given them unique names so you can tell them
apart)

On the info page check that SB2 and SB3 is on the same firmware, you
might have forgot to set the SB2 to auto upgrade hence it only get new
fw when press the brigthness button when asked to .
SB2 and SB3 is actually the same machine in different chassis so they
run the same firmware.

If you hold the brigthness button for a while you can force upgrade
the fw.

[slim] Smooth Upgrade to 7.6.1

2011-08-13 Thread Grizzly

Took the plunge and upgraded to 7.60 then 7.6.1 (r33048) as advised.
Finding there has been a flury of 7.6.1 releases over the last couple
of days. Everything now looks good on my HP WHS (Ver 1) platform.

Definite performance increase and far smoother. - thankyou

Just one question, all the devices had their firmware upgrades after
upgrading as follows:-

Duet controllers (2) 7.6.1 r9478
Duet receiver (2) 77
Boom (3) 57
Touch 7.6.1. r9478

However the radio is 7.6.1 r9468 Why?

Normal they all upgrade in step I have tried a manual upgrade and it
says that 9468 is the latest.

Thanks to everyone for a great product.

Re: [slim] Smooth Upgrade to 7.6.1

2011-08-13 Thread slate

Just so that it is clear; 7.6.1 is still in beta but it looks like it
might be released in the near future... maybe a weeks time.
So what you have seen are the nightly builds from the beta branch;
mainly SBS but also for some of the devices.

If things work for you now then you can just wait for the official
7.6.1 release and upgrade for that.

Personally I have upgraded today so now it is

SBS 7.6.1-33073
Receiver 77
Controller 9478

No radio in my setup; but someone stated that the radio is a little bit
behind as it does not have and option to use a falsh card to recover
from a bad firmware as the Touch have.

Re: [slim] Smooth Upgrade to 7.6.1

2011-08-13 Thread Mnyb

Radio is on 7.6.1 r9468

It is not updated that often due to more extensive testing, it's much
easier to brick .

Touch and controller have SD card or USB interface, Even if you blow up
the network drivers or similar on a Touch or controller you can always
recover by loading an older version via SD-card .

The Radio's only consumer interface is via wifi, so they make sure they
at least don't brick it before pushing an upgrade .
I think there is a serial interface trough the battery cable or some
other mean where the factory load fw or something even more elaborate ,
using a special cable of some sort ? If they broke massive amount of
Radios in the field it would not be popular

[slim] Any change to digital out on firmware 137 for SB3?

2011-08-13 Thread epoch1970

One of my SB3s is paired via toslink to a V-Dac.
I think I have noticed some crackling noise on a few records (FLAC)
which I did not notice before.
If I am right, either firmware 137 (SBS 7.6.0) has changed something,
or my V-dac is getting old (??)

Anyone to confirm/infirm a difference between firmwares ?
Does the preamp setting have an effect on digital out ?

Re: [slim] Smooth Upgrade to 7.6.1

2011-08-13 Thread Mnyb

This may be age old info for most forum members (don't read further).

The n.n.*x* beta as in for example 7.6.1 is usually the safe bugfix
beta, or has been historically (this seems to crumble a bit lately).

The n.x.(x) beta is very experimental and may not work at all in
periods (here be dragons ) as is in 7.7 at the moment .

This is how it used to work, hopefully they try to keep this
distinction.

as it usually makes .1 release a better choice than the .0 release the
.0 is historically the worst .

As soon as 7.6.1 is release, their will be 7.6.2 beta for further safe
bugfixes and possibly 7.6.3 or more versions until a decision to
release something from 7.7 comes around.

They usually want to surprise us with a new service or function with
each new .0 release and they have deadlines so a bunch of very late
additions goes to the .0 release with little time to test ?
So this desire for a positive new feature can backfire.

The messy part is the mysqueezebox.com interaction which i try to avoid
by using my own server, they simply don't have resources to support
several different version on mysb.com.

I think it would be technically possible to let mysb.com run different
versions depending on player fw at least for example from 7.5.0 and
forward, but it would require more people to maintain .

I have an uneasy feeling that the servers are maintained by the same 2
devs we see here on the forum ? They may rent the actual hardware and
connection to the internet from data-centers ,but still the software
must be maintained.
Just as they are running the build servers for the software too ?

[slim] Connecting to local server changes everything?

2011-08-13 Thread misterimpatient

Hi folks,

I received my Squeezebox last Monday and until today, I have not gotten
around to installing the server (linux) and setting that up on the
Squeezebox Radio. I did this today and it worked nicely pretty much
right away BUT, now I can no longer access the streams I had programmed
in the preset buttons. I don't have access to any of the stuff that
was available via the front panel controls except Now Playing, My Music
and Settings. My Music only shows the server based library.

What did I do wrong? Do I have to reset to factory to get my stuff
back?

I bet this is answered somewhere every day but I looked and I cannot
find it.

Thanks for your help.

her own certificate and I'm not even sure that would work over dyndns.

It's OK to keep neighbors from controlling your music, it will not help
against hackers but SSL would not be any help here either.

VPN tunneling helps.

[slim] Touch reliability

2011-08-13 Thread Zolee

Dear Squeezers,

This is my first post here...

My SB3 classic just died last week (RIP) and now I looking for a
replacement. Having read some posts on this issue here on this forum I
have some concerns regarding the reliability of these devices.
The obvious choice would be the Touch, but I wonder if theese also keep
failing in the same manner as the classic did. Mine lasted only for 2+
years.

Appreciate if you could share your experience on the Touch.

Re: [slim] Touch reliability

2011-08-13 Thread aubuti

Too bad to hear about your SB3. That is definitely shorter than the
average lifespan for that device. Are you sure it's dead? Sometimes
something as simple as a loose wifi card can make it appear dead, but
really it is easily fixed.

I've had a Touch for over two years (courtesy of the hardware beta
program) and it has been perfectly reliable. I do _not_ use the
built-in Squeezebox Server (aka TinySC or TinySBS). Rather I use an
external SBS on a small pc. Most (though by no means all) of the
reliability problems that others have reported with the Touch have to
do with TinySBS. If you're looking for a replacement for the SB3, then
I would say the Touch is a good way to go. But first make sure you
can't repair the SB3.

 OK, and comms setup.
But you can't do anything with 3483 alone.

Again: The password protection is to have a simple mechanism to keep
people who are already on your network from fiddling with your players
 and that's what it does.

I'm not up to speed on vpn tunneling even i do it at work with what we
have installed at our work pc's so yes you get a secure tunnel to your
local network that is the optimal solution.

finding software that does it for my server and for example my iPad
would be something or maybe router software that does it. I just
haven got hold of enough information to get a clue on where to start
digging for further info.

btw it is not only on your network, i do sometimes portforward the
server outside my network so your all welcome ;) . Here tunneling would
be much better if I manage it, my security is that the server holds
only music files ( that are backed up elsewhere ) and nothing personal
at all. I'll then turn of the router
ports after a session, however i find spotify very usefull when
travelling nowdays...

Oh sorry to oftopic maybe, I shall make time to test the new release
this weekend, I'm watching movies now, it can not be music all the time

Yes, it's absolutely dead and it's not an adapter issue. I have measured
the voltages - both the adapter's 5V and the internal ones -, but it's
all there. Removed the Wifi card, but no signs of life anymore. It came
back a few times before and played music for about 30 sec, but then the
display and sound switched off and it wouldn't even start. No light on
the Toslink eighter.
Thanks for helping, though !

Re: [slim] Touch reliability

2011-08-13 Thread Mnyb

touch is good as a replacement for SB3 soundvise it is better and wifi
range is better, and native 24/96 capacity.

but if you are in to advanced tweaks of the display modes you find the
Touch less flexible and customizeable ( there are some apps )
Visability is not so good from a distance as an SB3.

For my needs it's a nice player . and I'm happy with it.

Don't be scared by the duet, Touch is roled in to one device and thus a
breeze to setup and the UI is fast and responsive with this faster cpu
.

but don't expect much if it's standalone player function ( no server )
it's a frebie that may work but don't depend on it, I have to much music
and use to much plugins and I do like the web-UI so it's not for me.

Wich version btw release 7.6.0 has an issues when setting the music
directory and the playlist directory as the same, this gives weird
results .

7.6.1 has a remaining issue where scan for new and changed wipes the

Scan for playlist or Clear and rescan everything brings them back
.

It may have more failure modes when using iTune or mip , which i don't
do so i would not know.

As long as I don't use a public hotspot (or my company network ?) to

A nice touch is that is uses a more crowded style with more buttons
info and smaller letters when using the Touch interface, when you use
the ir-remote it reverts to bigger letters with less info and no

Agree with other posts - the Touch is a good replacement for the SB3.
The receivers are ok if you really don't want to see what's playing,
but the Duet controller is hard work.

On your SB3, I note that you say you checked the voltage but very often
the voltage is ok until you start to draw current - then it drops and
you see intermittent faults. If you have another PSU that you know
works, try swapping them. Or maybe borrow one from someone else. Over
the years I've had a few SB's die - checked the voltage which was ok,
but a new PSU fixed it.

2011-08-13 Thread bluegaspode

Hi goobi,

the Touch is actually two things in one: a server and a player
(connected to it's own server).

you need to tell SqueezePad, that it should connect to your Touches
server, before it will 'see' the Touch player part.

For this to work just enter the settings screen of SqueezePad (small
button on the botto right) and hit the 'Search' button. Your Touch
should be listed in the popup and when you return to the main interface
you should also the Touch in the players menu (among all of your other
players if they are told to use the Touch as music server as well).

That happend to my Slingbox PSU.
Without load the voltage would be ok; with load the PSU could not
deliver.

BTW it might also be a challenge to find a Duet as it is EOL. But might
still be poible.

Re: [slim] Connecting to local server changes everything?

2011-08-13 Thread misterimpatient

Yes, I saw that. My issue is that on the radio itself, the presets don't
work as they did before I connected to the server and all the search
features that were available on the radio itself are now gone. Frankly,
if my choice is control via the radio or via my home server, I prefer
the radio. I travel with the unit to work. I anticipate using it in
other locations and I have a short attention spam. I need to be able to
control the unit from the unit and I cannot any longer do that.

Is there a way to restore the functionality to the radio itself,
without abandoning the server?

Thanks,
Steve

Re: [slim] Touch reliability

2011-08-13 Thread mlsstl

I've read this forum for years and not noted of any unusual failure rate
for any of the Squeezebox products. Remember no manufacturer, no matter
how fancy the product, ever has a 100% perfect reliability record.
(Also, frustration with the computer aspect of the SB devices is not
the same as device failure.)

My SB3 is now 5 years old and going strong. I believe the most common
problem is the display losing some characters after time, but that's
hardly universal.

My Touch is a year and a half old and hasn't had any issues.

[slim] MusicIP WebUI display: bug?

2011-08-13 Thread bobkoure

Once the MusicIP importer has been run (or entries are hacked - see
'this thread' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89462))
you can click an 'M' icon in the track list.
After a bit, the left side panel redisplays and you get
at the top: Music IP Mix
next line: Home XXX MusicIP Mix (where XXX is whatever you mixed on)
next line: All Songs

And that's it. Where I;'d expect the MusicIP playlist to be displayed,
there's nothing.
If you hover over 'All Songs' you get the play/add/remove icons, just
like in 7.5 and prior, and if you click one of those icons, the
appropriate thing happens - or at least it seems to; hard to tell with
the playlist not displayed.
So.. is it -supposed- to work this way?
There have been other UI changes, so maybe - but I'm guessing it's a
bug.
Anybody know?
Thanks!

Re: [slim] I think Lion changed something...

2011-08-13 Thread cjfreitag

Lion changed the power handling on the Mac. I noticed that the alarm
function on my SB Boom became unreliable after I upgraded to Lion. I
changed the power saving setting on th Mac to never sleep and it's been
fine since. See if that fixes your issue.

No, it's not supposed to work that way. The MusicIP-generated playlist
shows up just fine for me right below the All Songs line. So it must
be something (but or otherwise) related to your particular
environment/configuration, though darned if I know what. For reference,
I'm currently using 7.6.1 - r32931 (still haven't updated since before
holiday) on debian lenny, running MIP headless.

Re: [slim] Squeezebox in sleep mode

2011-08-13 Thread alanterra

Hey Apesbrain,

Could you give me a little more help with sleep issues? I have
searched, and I can't find anything terribly useful here.

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Squeezebox-Players/Squeezebox-Server-sleep-and-Mac-issues/td-p/609764?nobounce,
seems useful, but then the second post says search on the forums,
just as you did. Other links seem to talk about something useful, but
searches just go off to things that aren't relevant or that I don't
understand.

This post http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72886 seems
relevant, but it says, first, You can disable/modify the OS power
management settings on the mac, it should stop sleeping while there is
network traffic' (How?), then you can try using something like
Caffeine (a free utility) to force the machine to stay awake (can you
give me a recipe?), and then Have a look at this thread in the 1/3
party forum, read the 1st messages and the last ones, which is today
187 pages long.

Is there a definite answer to How do I keep my Mac from going to sleep
while Squeezebox Server is running, but let it go to sleep when no music
is playing? It would be much easier than trying and having a look
at various solutions and discussions.

Thanks!
