Just so that it is clear; 7.6.1 is still in beta but it looks like it might be released in the near future... maybe a weeks time. So what you have seen are the nightly builds from the beta branch; mainly SBS but also for some of the devices. If things work for you now then you can just wait for the official 7.6.1 release and upgrade for that. Personally I have upgraded today so now it is SBS 7.6.1-33073 Receiver 77 Controller 9478 No radio in my setup; but someone stated that the radio is a little bit behind as it does not have and option to use a falsh card to recover from a bad firmware as the Touch have. -- slate Main: Receiver (Audiocom) - Beresford Caiman+ (Gatorized) - Carver A-500x - BW 704 Office: Receiver - Luxman L-210 - Stax SR84 Pro/Superlux HD668B Server: Zotac IONITX-A, 4 GB, 1 TB WD EADS, Win7 w. 7.6 (SQLite w. Re: [slim] Smooth Upgrade to 7.6.1
Radio is on 7.6.1 r9468 It is not updated that often due to more extensive testing, it's much easier to brick . Touch and controller have SD card or USB interface, Even if you blow up the network drivers or similar on a Touch or controller you can always recover by loading an older version via SD-card . The Radio's only consumer interface is via wifi, so they make sure they at least don't brick it before pushing an upgrade . I think there is a serial interface trough the battery cable or some other mean where the factory load fw or something even more elaborate , using a special cable of some sort ? If they broke massive amount of Radios in the field it would not be popular -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [slim] Smooth Upgrade to 7.6.1
This may be age old info for most forum members (don't read further). The n.n.*x* beta as in for example 7.6.1 is usually the safe bugfix beta, or has been historically (this seems to crumble a bit lately). The n.x.(x) beta is very experimental and may not work at all in periods (here be dragons ) as is in 7.7 at the moment . This is how it used to work, hopefully they try to keep this distinction. as it usually makes .1 release a better choice than the .0 release the .0 is historically the worst . As soon as 7.6.1 is release, their will be 7.6.2 beta for further safe bugfixes and possibly 7.6.3 or more versions until a decision to release something from 7.7 comes around. They usually want to surprise us with a new service or function with each new .0 release and they have deadlines so a bunch of very late additions goes to the .0 release with little time to test ? So this desire for a positive new feature can backfire. The messy part is the mysqueezebox.com interaction which i try to avoid by using my own server, they simply don't have resources to support several different version on mysb.com. I think it would be technically possible to let mysb.com run different versions depending on player fw at least for example from 7.5.0 and forward, but it would require more people to maintain . I have an uneasy feeling that the servers are maintained by the same 2 devs we see here on the forum ? They may rent the actual hardware and connection to the internet from data-centers ,but still the software must be maintained. Just as they are running the build servers for the software too ? -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Re: [slim] Touch reliability
Too bad to hear about your SB3. That is definitely shorter than the average lifespan for that device. Are you sure it's dead? Sometimes something as simple as a loose wifi card can make it appear dead, but really it is easily fixed. I've had a Touch for over two years (courtesy of the hardware beta program) and it has been perfectly reliable. I do _not_ use the built-in Squeezebox Server (aka TinySC or TinySBS). Rather I use an external SBS on a small pc. Most (though by no means all) of the reliability problems that others have reported with the Touch have to do with TinySBS. Again: The password protection is to have a simple mechanism to keep people who are already on your network from fiddling with your players and that's what it does. Re: [slim] Touch reliability
touch is good as a replacement for SB3 soundvise it is better and wifi range is better, and native 24/96 capacity. but if you are in to advanced tweaks of the display modes you find the Touch less flexible and customizeable ( there are some apps ) Visability is not so good from a distance as an SB3. For my needs it's a nice player . and I'm happy with it. Don't be scared by the duet, Touch is roled in to one device and thus a breeze to setup and the UI is fast and responsive with this faster cpu . but don't expect much if it's standalone player function ( no server ) it's a frebie that may work but don't depend on it, I have to much music and use to much plugins and I do like the web-UI so it's not for me. -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub. Agree with other posts - the Touch is a good replacement for the SB3. The receivers are ok if you really don't want to see what's playing, but the Duet controller is hard work. On your SB3, I note that you say you checked the voltage but very often the voltage is ok until you start to draw current - then it drops and you see intermittent faults. If you have another PSU that you know works, try swapping them. Or maybe borrow one from someone else. Over the years I've had a few SB's die - checked the voltage which was ok, but a new PSU fixed it. -- yeomanspc yeomanspc's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=249 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89584 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Hi goobi, the Touch is actually two things in one: a server and a player (connected to it's own server). you need to tell SqueezePad, that it should connect to your Touches server, before it will 'see' the Touch player part. For this to work just enter the settings screen of SqueezePad (small button on the botto right) and hit the 'Search' button. I've read this forum for years and not noted of any unusual failure rate for any of the Squeezebox products. Remember no manufacturer, no matter how fancy the product, ever has a 100% perfect reliability record. (Also, frustration with the computer aspect of the SB devices is not the same as device failure.) My SB3 is now 5 years old and going strong. I believe the most common problem is the display losing some characters after time, but that's hardly universal. [slim] MusicIP WebUI display: bug?
Once the MusicIP importer has been run (or entries are hacked - see 'this thread' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89462)) you can click an 'M' icon in the track list. After a bit, the left side panel redisplays and you get at the top: Music IP Mix next line: Home XXX MusicIP Mix (where XXX is whatever you mixed on) next line: All Songs And that's it. Where I;'d expect the MusicIP playlist to be displayed, there's nothing. If you hover over 'All Songs' you get the play/add/remove icons, just like in 7.5 and prior, and if you click one of those icons, the appropriate thing happens - or at least it seems to; hard to tell with the playlist not displayed. So it must be something (but or otherwise) related to your particular environment/configuration, though darned if I know what. For reference, I'm currently using 7.6.1 - r32931 (still haven't updated since before holiday) on debian lenny, running MIP headless. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89590 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox in sleep mode
Hey Apesbrain, Could you give me a little more help with sleep issues? I have searched, and I can't find anything terribly useful here. http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Squeezebox-Players/Squeezebox-Server-sleep-and-Mac-issues/td-p/609764?nobounce, seems useful, but then the second post says search on the forums, just as you did. Other links seem to talk about something useful, but searches just go off to things that aren't relevant or that I don't understand. This post http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=72886 seems relevant, but it says, first, You can disable/modify the OS power management settings on the mac, it should stop sleeping while there is network traffic' (How?), then you can try using something like Caffeine (a free utility) to force the machine to stay awake (can you give me a recipe?), and then Have a look at this thread in the 1/3 party forum, read the 1st messages and the last ones, which is today 187 pages long. Is there a definite answer to How do I keep my Mac from going to sleep while Squeezebox Server is running, but let it go to sleep when no music is playing? It would be much easier than trying and having a look at various solutions and discussions. Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] new features on iPad: SqueezePad 1.8.0 hits the store!
Hi I can get it crash frequently . And behave very sluggish . Just use flac files with an unusually large jpeg embedded . Against better knowledge i created such album yesterday ;) it is also from a bad scan from paper so it has a lot of grungy details, which makes it less likely to compress nice 2,816px × 2,816px -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
