What are the purpose of the change? To have a more expensive system or
some added functionality?

I've seen a few discussions on the forum over the years. A quick search
only turned up 'this thread'
but I think there are more to be found.
I have to say I find the descriptions of your problem to be very hard to
follow.
Can you give some detail about what you mean when you say your
Squeezebox has stopped working.
It would seem that the display lights up and the unit accepts input from
the remote, right?
Nevermind that the

There does seem to be something amiss with your server, looking at the
output from the web interface, but I doubt it's the cause of this
problem.
You say you use ethernet, but do you have a cable connected straight to
the router or do you use some kind of powerline ethernet plugs? These
can

If you're able to open the web interface to the server it's telling you
that the server is at least running, a quick test you can do when the
player is unable to connect.

If disabling the firewall or antimalware software doesn't help, next I'd
look at those. It's a bit of a reach since the Squeezebox get an IP
address from the router, but
Have you tried with a PSU from one of the other SB3s. I would say that
for a behaviour like that, more often than not a failing PSU is the
culprit.

Most likely the power supply, voltage shouldn't drop that much when
connected. Theoretically it could be something inside the SB3 drawing
too much current, but given how prone the power supplies are to fail I'd
say it's the place to start.
Could be the WiFi board, but my money is on the power supply. Generic
replacements aren't prohibitively expensive.

Far easier going for one intended for a Squeezebox, like 'this one'

(first found on Amazon)
They can be found on on Ebay too, or various
Two common faults that can give those symptoms are the external power
supply and the WiFi board.
Since you have a spare SB3, have you tried with the power supply from
that one?
Next would be to open the unit and remove the WiFi board and test it
using ethernet cable?
Both power supply and WiFi
For silent slimproto players, a Xilinx reset sometimes helps. Instead of
holding the '+' button pressed during power up, hold the '1' key.

I tried a different take on this, casting the web interface, in this
case the Now Playing of the Material skin, to the Google Nest Hub.
The word to note here is the "casting" bit, my home automation
controller (Homey) allows me to cast a web page to a specific Chromecast
player, but I'm sure

Was that measured with the PSU connected to the SB2? A common failure
mode of these are to measure fine on open output but buckling when asked
to drive any load.

Correct, up to a point. It won't halt the minute Logitech shuts down the
servers, but it may still affect you in a longer run.
Considering that the Squeezeboxes were always a bit of
I believe there have been some reports on Transporters that stubbornly
refuses to output audio, but it's always worth a try to do a Xilinx
reset.
See 'Wiki'

N.B. the wiki post doesn't actually
Did you measure the PSU output while loaded, i.e. when driving the
Squeezebox? It's quite common that the PSU can deliver the right voltage
with an open output but when it's connected to the SB the voltage drops.

For me the SB3 is the ideal model, nice form factor and a display I can
read at a distance.
However, like
As far as I understand, complete lack of sound on this family of players
can often be fixed by reprogramming the Xilinx device. On players with
infrared remotes, initiating this process is simply a matter of pressing
the right button on the remote while connecting the power, but I have no
idea
I bloody love my Harmony Hub, at least when I'm done configuring it
because that's an ordeal which perfectly illustrates the vulnerability
of hardware that's dependent on cloud services.
Hopefully Harmony customers will get the same level of long term support
that Squeezebox users have enjoyed

Exactly! My Harmony controls TV, AVR, satellite receiver, Squeezebox and
an HTPC running Kodi. Aboslutely seamless.
Extra comfort points for using RF between remote and

Failing power supplies is perhaps one of the most common causes of
"dead" Squeezeboxes, and it's definitely the right place to start, but
there is a little caveat when it comes to testing.
If you
I think the first thing to try is to reprogram the Xilinx.
Remove power from the SB3, press and hold '1' on the remote while
reconnecting power. I believe you will get some prompt on the display
when done.

Sorry for being vague, shouldn't have formulated a question before my
first cup of coffee. I was thinking of the model of the memory device.
But from your answer I can deduce roughly what kind of Flash it is.
Flash of that generation usually have pretty much no data retention
problems, but heat
Curious, what's the model number of the device?

Too lazy to dig up the datasheets for those memories but I suspect they
are rated at 10,000 or even 100,000 erase cycles. I feel it is unlikely
wear should be an issue when used in this application.
Since the erase operation is rather slow, sometimes you don't erase and
overwrite when using this
