[Dx4win] DXCC Challenge
wam not spam ignore above I am working on the DXCC Challenge and I know F8 is the key to find a call which I have made a contact with. As this has been some years ago and the award was not conceived at that time when I had a big station I need the following report information. I want to see all stations that are not on the regular report that I have worked for any country on the different bands and modes that I do not have credit for. For example I want to see every other contact(s) I have made with any of my none-credited countries Ion every band and mode. I have used F8 and know if u use the page up and down key does a few but would like to have a report on the band or mode I can use. Not sure if possible but anyone with ideas I would appreciate them. __ DX4WIN mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:DX4WIN@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Dx4win] where do I get version 9.0.9.1259?
Recovering from a Windows 11 "upgrade" disaster... I was able to recover my dx4win log file from said machine. I tried to open it on another machine running 9.0.3.1160 and got an error message along the lines of "log file needs newer version". Oddly, the currently downloadable on dx4win.com seems to be 9.0.3.1160. I managed to recover my dx4win.exe file as well and it says it is 9.0.9.1259, and it does open my log file with no problem. [Dx4win] Oddities importing QSL credit list from LoTW
You can download all your credited DXCC QSOs (or QSLs if you prefer) from LoTW in ADIF format. When I import this ADIF file into DX4WIN9, I get a number of errors. One is from LoTW itself (for some reason there is no explicit callout on phone QSOs), but I can fix that in the ADIF file itself. The strange one is that DX4WIN remaps several QSOs to different DXCC. For example, ZK1CQ from 1989 is North Cooks...the ADIF record even has the correct : index...yet DX4WIN calls it South Cooks. Same for 3D2AM from 1990. It's Conway Reef with the correct index, but DX4WIN calls it Fiji. A slightly different issue is with V51NAM from 1990...the error is "prefix empty" and sure enough in the imported log there is no prefix and therefore no entity identified...except for again, the DXCC index is correct in the ADIF record. Any hints as to what is up here? I can't look at my country file ("Country Editor not available") so I can't check valid dates in the database (although these are all valid...and I have the cards to prove it!). [Dx4win] ADIF Import
Its is a very simple fix. Use a text editor and in the ADIF file from DXLog search and replace "import into DX4WIN "CQ WW SSB" info will show up in "Note for this QSO" field. I do this all the time. You can also import the log using a specific DX4WIN Group Number where each group is linked to a specific contest. This is also a good way to separate your DX4WIN log into different parts. [Dx4win] DX4WIN Status -- Observations
First -- to answer AD1C's question I believe 8.05 was released in January 2011. Before that 8.02 was released in September 2009, 8.03 in December 2009, and 8.04 in May 2010. Second -- to echo other similar comments I am a very long time user of DX4WIN, since the late '90s. The fact is DX4WIN still works and does what I need it to do and does it efficiently and reliably. But, my expectations are simple: keep track of logs and QSL cards, help me track DXCC, and be my day-to-day real time spot processing, logging, and rig control system. The log management use is not to be underestimated: between my K7ZO log, my YN5Z log, and NK7U's logs, the later for whom I have been the manager for 20+ years, I have about 400,000 QSOs to keep track of and I respond to 1,500 QSL requests a year. Certainly there are more things I use a computer for in the hobby, but I use other software for them. I did look at Log4OM a year or so ago as a modern version of a logging program and software suite. It certainly does a lot more than DX4WIN but converting my logs over was going to require a huge amount of manual work if I wanted to retain detail beyond basic QSO data. Yes, some of the Log4OM features could be added to DX4WIN. But, this leads to the next point. Third -- if we really want Paul to add features to DX4WIN we need to make it worth his while. Someone's comment mention how using DX4WIN has saved them from years of upgrade bills. However, this also means that Paul does not have a financial incentive to spend time on DX4WIN. In other words, we are getting what we pay for -- nothing. (Other than AD1C's amazing work which earned him deserved recognition at Dayton.) So we should not complain. And there are some among us who regularly spend way more on various pieces of station hardware who would vocally object to a annual software maintenance fee. The N1MM+ development team, who are motivated by something other than money, have lowered our sense of the value and worth of software. That is fine for them, but it is not fair to expect all other developers to follow the same path. I have no idea how many DX4WIN users there are, nor how much they are willing to pay for a new release of DX4WIN addressing the top requests. I would encourage those that want improvements to DX4WIN to rally the user base and present a financial case to Paul for the work. Other than that, perhaps there is a way to open source the code and let others add to it. And, if Paul rationally does not want to spend time on the software going the open source route might be a great solution for him and for us. Just my two cents worth. Re: [Dx4win] Icom 7800 Fireware 3.01 issues
Just retired my old Icom 781 (after 23 years) and bought an Icom 7800 Firmware 3.01. I upgraded my DX4win from 8.04 to 8.05. I am have some issues with some items not working correctly. Paul directed me to set it to the Icom 7600 setting. It seems to be working better then on the 7800 selections. I am having to double click the DX spot 2 times to get it to switch the main vfo, but most of the time the mode (cw,usb, etc) will not switch then other times it will. (Polling set from 5 to 500). [Dx4win] W1AW/# conversion
This looks like a nice program and runs very well. However, there is a small problem. When I ran it and examined the results, I noticed that the last two W1AW/# entries did not appear in the output. It happens that one is CO which I worked minutes before I ran the conversion and SD which I worked on 15/05/2014 is the other. Both are W1AW/0. All others appear to be correct. I have run it twice with the same results. Both QSOs appear in the adi file. [Dx4win] County and Grid Refill
There has been one behavior of DX4WIN that has irritated me for years so I thought I would finally post a note and see if anyone has figured it out. When I am logging in QSLs received I enter in the County, Grid, and First Name of the operator. Then, on a second QSL or QSO on the same card I have to reenter the County and Grid all over again while the first name gets Refilled on the record. I can't think of a time where I have ever had the County and Grid change between QSOs or QSL cards. Is there a way to have the County and Grid fields act like the name field and get Refilled as soon as one entry is made for that callsign? I looked through preferences but didn't see anything. Note that if I Add a new QSO with a callsign having County and Grid already entered then yes they get Refilled. But if I merge a DX4WIN log into the existing log then the Refill does not occur. And this is the way I usually populate my log. I have a log for a contest which is exported from the contest software as ADIF. I then create a new DX4WIN log to make sure I have all the import parameter correct. Then I merge this new DX4WIN log into the existing master log. That way I minimize the risk of messing up the master log during the import process. [Dx4win] PSK TX keying
I am having difficulty using DX4WIN with an Elecraft KX3 and SignaLink USB to transmit PSK. DX4WIN interfaces nicely with the KX3 using COM 2 with Windows 7 and works properly to control the KX3 when clicking on DX spots from the DX Cluster. The PSK window decodes signals properly when selected on the waterfall display. However, I cannot figure out how to configure the DX4WIN preferences to make the KX3 transmit on PSK. Other PSK/diogital programs such as FLDIGI, WinLink, and FreeDV transmit properly. I cannot make DX4WIN key the rig. The only Com port available is Com 2. And the SignaLink USB is selected for the sound card. [Dx4win] DX4WIN 8.02 SAME CALL Window Advice
I just got done processing over 1,000 cards for NK7U as his QSL manager. This is the first batch of cards since upgrading to DX4WIN 8. There are still a couple of things about the SAME CALL Window that are driving me crazy and I wonder if anyone out there knows if there are fixes for these or if they are in the works. Or, is there a way I can get this input to the DX4WIN team to seriously consider? Anyone out there who processes many cards for a large log, and NK7U's is over 250,000 qso's, will run into the same problems. The general problem is this. With a card in hand I enter the callsign into the Callsign field and then hit enter. This brings up all the QSO's with that station in the SAME CALL window so I can choose which one to confirm and set for a label in order to reply. The two issues are this. 1. DX4WIN automatically loads the OLDEST QSO into the QSO window and highlights the oldest QSO in the SAME CALL window and scrolls to the bottom of the qso list in that window. If the card is from a station with which we have had many QSO's, and all the QSO's can't be displayed in the SAME CALL window, this means the QSO I need to select is off the top of the list and I have to scroll the whole list up to the more recent QSO's. Is there a way to have DX4WIN automatically load the NEWEST QSO and display the more recent QSO's in the SAME CALL window. 2. When you start to move the cursor in the SAME CALL window a Pop Up Help is displayed saying Double-click to go to QSO. Though it disappears after a moment it often covers up the information, date and time, that I need to identify the correct QSO. Though the help is probably helpful for an occasional user it is a nuisance after you have seen it 25 times, not to mention 1000 times. Is there a way to turn this on and off? [As a comparison the DX Spots window does not have the same Pop Up Help. It is just common usage that you double click on the spot to load it into the QSO window. Why does the SAME CALL window have to have this help. It has been there for many versions now, I had hoped this issue would have been worked on by now.] Thanks everyone for your help. [Dx4win] DX4WIN 6.04 and Windows 7?
I am upgrading my PC from a 6 year old XP system to a new 64 bit Windows 7 Professional system. I am currently using DX4WIN 6.04 and can't seem to get it running on the Windows 7 box. I followed the standard Vista install directions: Right Click to run the install .EXE as administrator and put it in the root directory. However, when I run the program, again as administrator, I get the missing vichw11.sys in C:\Windows\System32\drivers. I put the .sys file there and it still does not work and I can't get past this point. So, any ideas out there? * How have others gotten past the missing vichw11.sys problem? (My new PC does not have a serial port -- is this part of the problem?) * If I run the new PC in XP Compatibility Mode would this work? Has anyone tried this? * If I upgrade to Version 8 -- can I get that working? Anyone have Version 8 running on a 64 bit system? Thanks for the replies. Re: [Dx4win] 8.02 issues
AD1C says: Hi Dave, According to CQ Magazine (and DX4WIN Award database), the single-band WAZ award for 17 meters only counts QSOs starting 01/01/1991; your confirmed Zone 19 QSO is in 1990. There's more to this actually. While a WAZ report correctly reflects the date limits (e.g., for the 12-17-30m bands), the Zone window does not. I have a similar contact where the report shows blank (which is correct...I have not worked that zone since the cutoff date) but the Zone window shows C (which is correct as well, as I have it confirmed but before the cutoff date). To me this is a bit confusing, since I would like to see the awards status of my QSOs without referring to a report. Is this considered the desired behaviour, or is it a bug? [Dx4win] Mailed cutoff - explain?
Either I misunderstand Mailed Cutoff or it's not working correctly in 8.01. Example: Mailed Cutoff value = 730 (days, as I understand)...so 2 years. My understanding is that any QSL Date earlier than 2007-08-29 should show up W instead of M. I have a particular QSO whose QSL date was 2000-02-26. This QSO (the only one in its band-mode combination) shows up M in the Country window. No matter the date (even ridiculous ones like 1930-01-01). The only way to make it show up W is to completely erase the QSL date field. I do have all the electronic QSL date fields blank as well. So it's not that. What I was planning on doing to work-around the M problem is I copy my log to another file, NX7U_packet.dxl and in that log I globally erase all the electronic QSL dates. I had hoped that would restore the original Mailed Cutoff behaviour but no dice. Or like I said, maybe I misunderstand how it works. Re: [Dx4win] Mailed cutoff - explain?
Like I said, though: the QSO in question *did not have a date entered for any form of electronic QSL*...either LoTW or eQSL. [Dx4win] Fw: LOTW, DX4WIN and contest logs
I use a Group per Contest in managing my log and NK7U's log. This allows me to print a note on each card refering to each contest. For instance: Thanks for QSO in 2009 ARRL DX SSB Contest. By using Group numbers the Group Name is automatically applied to each QSO. And the Group number can be assigned to QSO's during the log import process so it is a very quick and easy process. Using the Notes for this QSO field would also work but you would have to enter each contest name individually or somehow create them in a batch mode in the log before the import process. We are still a ways from using up all the Group Numbers -- 254 will last a while. I also like AD1C's idea of using a Group Number for each Contest, and not worrying about the date. So for instance Group 54 could refer to all ARRL DX SSB contests. This is very simple and useful. [Dx4win] 7.07.02 band toggling problem
Hey Guys, I upgraded my DX4WIN from 7.02 to 7.07.02 3 days ago. I am not having good luck with the 7.07 version. I am thinking of rolling back my version to 7.02 where I didn't have these problems. The problems I am seeing is in the BAND window the value keeps toggling. For example when I am on 14 MHz it toggles between 14 MHz and 440 MHz. This is weird I haven't seen this issue before until now. When I make a DX contact I need to keep a eye on the Band window and review each contact to make sure it's on the correct band I made contact on. The other issue I am seeing is it may or may not save the contact when the enter key is hit. I am using a Icom 781 and Icom CI-V. I saved all my old settings with the .ini file and imported them into the newer version. Any clues on how to fix this or should I roll back the version? Thanks wr0u Scott Augsburger___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
[Dx4win] band window toggling
Hey Guys, I figured out the problem. It isn't the DX4WIN 7.07.02. I did a clean new installation and added all the information for my station back in. I found out it was the USB to serial cable. I bought a new computer and there was only one serial port on it. So I bought a Radio Shack USB to serial cable. The rig was on the USB cable and the rotor on a normal serial port. I have since changed the cables around and found the problem. It seem to be rock solid now and everything seems to be working. Lesson learned. Note to self. Save your old multi port serial cards. [Dx4win] importing to dx4win
According to the vendor's web site: http://www.n3fjp.com/INTDx.htm It exports ADIF. So, export the log as an ADIF file. Then import the ADIF file into DX4WIN. File Import/Export ADIF File Import You might consider creating a new/lank DX4WIN file first, then import into it, to see what it looks like. You can then import that DX4WIN file into your main DX4WIN log. Common sense dictates to make backups before importing into your main log, of course, just in case things go haywire. - Scott KA9FOX At 10:26 AM 3/1/2008, you wrote: I used n3fjp's International DX CW Contest Program for the contest and now want to export all the contacts to dx4win. Hey Glen, As reliable as REC (REA) power is, even I have a ups on my dx4win computer and the Ye Ole Icom 781. I have learned the hard way too. Now I use the SAVE button a lot more too plus the export button to save the Q's to another source. I am using a APC 1000 unit. When you turn the radio on, you still have to the Radio Menu and choose Start Radio. In the QSO window, is the band and mode Grey or Black? As the QSL manager for the NK7U contest station I maintain a DX4WIN log of over 130,00 QSO's. I keep a copy of the log and DX4WIN at my QTH and NK7U does as well at his. Since the last time we sync'd the log file up NK7U and I have both added QSOs to the log as well as added QSL confirmations for past QSO's -- and these changes are totally different. So, now we we have two copies of the log that are different in both QSO's and and QSL confirmations. My question is how can I get these two logs sync'd back up into one master log? We are using 5.03. Getting the new QSO's sync'd up is easy. Just merge one log into the other Ignoring Duplicate QSOs. The problem is with the QSL confirmations. If I copy one log into the other with Duplicate QSO replaces existing one the QSL confirmations in the log being merged into will be erased since when the duplicate QSO replaces the existing one it does not have the QSL Confirmation. Yes, we could merge the new QSO's and go back in and update the QSL's by hand in the merged log, but we are talking about 500 QSL's that would need to be re-entered. Anyone got any ideas? The notes to Version 6.03 describe the following functionality: Import (merge) can use imported QSO for confirmation only (we can set confirmed or upload confirmed. From the description I am not sure if this is solves the problem, but it looks hopefull. Does anyone have any experience with this function? If it does I would gladly pay to upgrade to 6.03. Or, does anyone know the DX4WIN file format? I might be able to write a separate merge program. Thanks for your advice and assistance. K7ZO/Scott
[Dx4win] Font Size
Just installed Version 6.04. No problems with that, works great. However, I notice that in the Master window, the one you must have open for DX4WIN, the font size for the boxes at the left side is too larger. Add Real Time seems to be bold and does not fit into the space allotted to it. Is is possible to change this? If so, how? [Dx4win] Ver6.03 : Printing in Landscape
I seem to be having trouble with printing. If I right click the logbook window and select print, then select setup and click Landscape for the orientation, it still prints in the portrait mode. Ver 6.02 works just fine here. Printer is an Epson C84. Can anyone else verify this or tell me what I setup wrong? Thanks.ScottWD0DAN
[Dx4win] Keeping track of LoTW QSLs
I am in quandary as to how to keep track of QSLs received from the Logbook of the World (LoTW) Presently, I am keeping them in a separate DW4WIN file, imported as ADIF from the LoTW downloads, but this seems wasteful and makes record keeping difficult. (What's confirmed and what's not.) I suppose one could make them all Group number 99 and then import them allowing new QSOs to replace old QSOs. Does anyone have a better idea? [Dx4win] Same Call Window Problem
Ok i have checked every bit of the screen. I have minimized or moved = everything on the screen including the task bar at the bottom and = checked around the edges of the screen. Still when I click on Same = Call I do not see the window open. If it is hiding, it is being very = sneaky. I did notice that there is no mention of the Same Call window = in the .ini files like the rest of the windows=20 (ie. state,wpx,zone...) If it is suppose to be there not sure what the = setting is. Any ideas??? [Dx4win] importing NA Contest files
Hi Richard, NA also produces an ADIF file, which DX4WIN can import from. I've done it many times. However, my version has a quirk.. When you select Import/Export and highlight Import, from the File drop down, you get the Specify file for import dialog box. When you select the folder your ADIF file is in, it will not show up in the window until you start typing the name of your file. Hope your doing well, it's been a long time since contested in Ulster County. 73 Scott K2SD - Original Message - From: Richard L King [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: dx4win@mailman.qth.net Sent: Friday, February 07, 2003 11:02 AM Subject: [Dx4win] importing NA Contest files Hi everyone. I am having a little trouble importing NA Contest log files into DX4WIN and I may be doing something wrong. The log file for NA Contest is a .QDF file. But DX4WIN seems to want a .NA file. I can't get the .QDF file to import and I don't seem to have a .NA file. Has anyone else been successful importing NA contest files into DX4WIN? [Dx4win] New version?
I have to admit not following these threads closely, so this may have been raised before, but I would like the WAZ tracking to reflect the actual award...for example, if I set the DX Spotting window to WAZ, it colors/announces zones like DXCC, but the single band WAZ awards are single-mode as well. So if I have zone 23 confirmed on 15m CW, but not SSB, then JT1AB on 21.290 comes up nothing. Fix IOTA editor so it doesn't crash when adding new reference numbers 2. Copy IOTA field from previous QSO to current one. This functionality used to be there, but somehow got lost. 3. Improve the US County reports so that they have the same capabilities as the other awards, i.e. mode support, needed lists, double-click on report creates logbook filter, etc. 4. Interface to MMTTY via API rather than complicated serial-port loopback. 5. Have it work BS7 and VU4 for me when they come on the air, even if I'm not home! :-) 73 - Jim AD1C -- Jim Reisert AD1C, 7 Charlemont Court, North Chelmsford, MA 01863 USA +978-251-9933, [EMAIL PROTECTED], http://www.ad1c.com PGP Fingerprint: D8E2 3D78 339F A7F1 8C13 1193 B5D1 4FB6 79D1 70DC ___ Dx4win mailing list Dx4win@mailman.qth.net http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dx4win
[Dx4win] can't manually add to IOTA database in 5.03
Had this problem in 4.07, still exists in 5.03. I'm trying to do the CTRL-Insert command to stick a new one in. I occasionally get lucky, but for some reason cannot for the life of me get the right keystrokes to add OC-249, Aru Islands to the database. I get an access violation at address 00411D4A while attempting to read , no matter what I try. Anyone out there know the workaround for this? Any help appreciated. 73, Scott
[Dx4win] Help Importing Old Logs
I am consolidating a bunch of old electronic contest logs for NK7U into DX4WIN. I have got all of them done but a handful and could use some thoughts and advice on these last few. They were all created in 1990 and 1991 and are of two types: * .SAV files. This appears to be a binary file of some sort. I have no idea what contesting software it might be from and/or if an existing DX4WIN filter will work. * .NAF files. This is an ASCII file and may be from the old WJ2O program. The WJ2O filter does not import it and the file is not of the one record per line type where I could easity create my own filter. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do with these two I sure would appreciate it. Scott/K7ZO
