With this program, DXLog was actually easier to convert than WriteLog.
If you run into any issues, please let me know.

Hello Luciano,

Jim AD1C wrote a utility program for importing ADIF files from contest
loggers into DX4WIN. It works very well with N1MM, so I presume it will
also work with an ADIF from DXLOG.

Shouldn't he be in "Notes for this QSO"?

[Dx4win] ADIF Import

2020-10-26 Thread Scott Tuthill (K7ZO)
Its is a very simple fix. Use a text editor and in the ADIF file from
DXLog search and replace "import into DX4WIN "CQ WW SSB" info will show up in "Note for this QSO"
field.  I do this all the time. You can also import the log using a
specific DX4WIN Group Number where each group is linked to a specific
contest. This is also a good way to separate your DX4WIN log into
different parts.

Hi all
I have used DXLog to log contest QSOs over the weekend.
In order to get these QSOs in to the log, I export DXLog to adif, and
re-import into DX4Win, which I think is the correct procedure.
The DXLofg adif file has "CQ WW SSB" info as a "comment" field, and when
I import it, it re appears under the "notes for the call" field.

What must I replace "NOTES" in the adif file by, in order to get this
note in the "note for this QSO field"? ?

OK, I suspect it's because you have the import settings in dx4win set to
accept dx4win values when there are differences. Yes, let's see what Jim or

Attached is the screen that I get upon completion of the import.
As you can read, it says no errors, so this is probably why we cannot
find it with the word import in the note field (either one)
I wouild expect to be able to find out which zone corrections were
changed...
This end of import message does not state if and where this can be
found. Maybe it is not even created... The correction is made, and I
have no choice to cancel it, should it be the case.
Maybe AD1C can tell us...

I'm not sure that can be done with DX4WIN today. Paul would have to comment.

[Dx4win] ADIF import incompatibility

Hello,
just downloaded DXCC QSL Card Report from LoTW in ADIF version 3.0.4.
Included are indicators such as APP_LOTW_MODE:5:SPHONE and different from
DX4Win ADIF Import (Version 2). As a result, imported MODE is Defaults for
new QSO from DX4Win Setup Parameters in Preference file. In my case, ALL
imported PHONE QSOs are CW, hi.
Is there any ADIF conversion from version 3.0.4 down to version 2. application
available ? Or any hint others than WINDOWS editor function search and
exchange ?

Thank You in advance.

Hi Thomas,

For now, search and exchange is the only way. But I am curious why
you would want to import this report into DX4WIN? It will not help
set any of the DXCC award flags.

This is a new file type available from the ARRL. It's not of much use
to DX4WIN users, other than to look at it visually. I will soon
modify my Compare DX4WIN DXCC Credit Status with LoTW program to use
this file, instead of trying to save the Award Credit Matrix as an
HTML file:

http://dx4win.ad1c.us/lotw/

But that work is several weeks away right now.

I've been using DX4WIN for many years. Currently using Version 8.05 under
Windows 7 Home Premium.

No operational problems. But an oddity.

I recently decided to fool around with JT-65. Just to say I had yet another
digital mode to play with.

I successfully installed and am using the plain vanilla JT-65HF Version
1.0.7 software. Works great. The software includes a simple logging program
that stores all the pertinent JT-65 QSO info, and also allows exporting the
log data as an ADIF file.

When I try to import the JT-65HF software generated ADIF data into DX4WIN,
DX4WIN delivers an error message indicating the file can not be imported.

However, I also use Ham Radio Deluxe for some digital modes. I am successful
in using the HRD software to import the same JT-65HF software generated ADIF
data into HRD.

Then, I am successful in exporting the JT-65HF QSO log data from HRD, in
ADIF format, into DX4WIN.

Anyone have an idea why that process is not successful when transferring
ADIF log data from JT-65HF directly into DX4WIN?

[Dx4win] ADIF import from JT65-HF

2011-03-13 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
Greetings all,

I've started playing with JT65-HF and wanted to import the ADIF file
that it creates. Apparently, it does not put a header in front of the
data which, according to the ADIF spec that I read, is optional.
However, when I try to import into D4W, it issues an error that the
header can't be read and aborts the import. I can fix it trivially by
editing the .ADI file to add a dummy header, but I'm wondering if this
is a bug in D4W or if I've misread the spec and a header is actually
required?

If it's the former, hopefully it'll get logged as a bug and fixed, if
the latter. I'll put in a bug request against JT65 HF.

If the file doesn't have that, contact the software's author and tell

Re: [Dx4win] ADIF import from JT65-HF

2011-03-13 Thread David Kozinn, K2DBK
The file actually doesn't have a header at all. The first line was a
CALL:6 just like any other data record. The issue seems to be that D4W
expects there to always be a header.

I re-read the spec, and it says:
Optional header information may be included before the actual data in
the file
and
If the first character of a file is , it is presumed to be the first
field of the first data record.

You just need an EOH at the top of the file, before the first QSO.
That signals to DX4WIN that the header is done and the QSOs are to
begin. In this case, the header is empty, but DX4WIN still requires
the end of header separator.

It also keeps DX4WIN from reading files as ADIF that are NOT ADIF
(yes, they could have '' as the first character on a line).

I believe that DX4WIN is doing the right thing. I'll ping the ADIF
reflector, as you pointed out, it does not explicitly say that EOH
is required, but I believe most developers have inferred this.

Should be easy Brian;

1) Filter the QSO's in question - F8; select the group name; and maybe
that dates of the QSO's you need to change

2) Select QSO , Multiple QSOs operations, Set Group Number ; then
change Group number !!

I think thhat there was something special about ) by the way; you
normally only use 1 upwards !!

[Dx4win] ADIF IMPORT ANOMALY

2008-12-08 Thread Stefano Cipriani
Hi Paul,
I have just installed the 7.06.02 release.
NOT changes found in the ADIF import anomaly that I have indicated to you
on june!!
So, try yourself
1) - Export a log in ADIF mode.
In the ADIF file produced you find the QSL_VIA field (This is
correct !!)
2) - Import the data from the same ADIF file.
The Notes for this call field will be populated by QSL VIA ETC
(This is wrong !!)

DX4WIN use a proper qsl manager database!!!

The IMPORT/EXPORT ADIF FILTER must be modified in the import side.
So please modify that routine.
Thanks.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for the 7.05 release.
But You forgot to fix the ADIF IMPORT routine.
I send again to You my email of Tuesday, June 10, 2008.
So if You want however to import the QSL_VIA MNGR,
(unnecessary for Dx4win), please redirect it to Notes for
this QSO field, and NOT to Notes for this Call.
Usually I must use montly the Adif Import , to exchange and sincronize
data from T77C, T77CD, KH6ZM and KH6YR logs, and I must
modify the received files to avoid that the Notes for this Call not be
populated from unrelated data.
Please remember this request..

Maybe this has been asked a 100 times before, but I can't find it... my

I am trying to import contest logs into DX4WIN, using the ADIF format. I
want the name of the contest imported, to be displayed as a Notes For
This
QSO. The ADIF file has the name of the contest listed with the standard
field name CONTEST_ID but I can't get DX4WIN to do anything with this

I've been able to circumvent this, sort of, by manually editing the ADIF

[Dx4win] ADIF Import question

2006-06-14 Thread John Shaw
Very good point Alan, and I have the SAME CALL window open all the time
and use that very piece of information, often I will comment to a
station when having a QSO that it is good to get there name as our other
QSO's are all contest ones.

Just to re iterate one point though, use the same group each year for
the same contest. Saves using all those groups and you can still tell
at a glance which year it was by the date. If you really need to home
in on one year just make a selection with a date filter.

This sort of thing is what attracted me to DX4WIN in the first place,
there is hardly a task that cant be achieved with a little thought and
observation.

Scott,

A better solution to putting the contest name in the notes is to import
the contest log into it's own group, the group name will show up in
your
log window and you can use the same group year after year if you want
to
look at one year just make a selection using a date filter.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import question

2006-06-14 Thread Scott Neader KA9FOX
Yep, guys, I'm convinced -- this will work great! I did not realize I
could get the group NAME to appear in the log, or in the same call
window. This will work nicely!!!

Having the CONTEST_ID import directly into the Notes For This QSO would
still be nice, but Group Numbers Names will get it done for me. Thanks
all !!!

[Dx4win] ADIF Import question

Hello Jim and the reflector...

The ADIF filter isn't configurable like the other import/export filters.
You can only do what's on Filter - Edit window.

If you're using Writelog, I may have something to help you.

What about putting the contest's name in a (new) comment:... entry (for
each QSO), so Dx4win imports it into the Notes for the QSO? Can the ADIF
and/or Dx4win accept multiple comment:... entries?

I have not tried it...

OK, sports fans, here is the lasted update in the saga to get my IC-706MKIIG
talking to DX4WIN and WriteLog. I went home at lunch and changed some
settings in DX4WIN and on the 706, no cigar. Next I loaded the testing
software CIVTEST to test communications between the radio and the computer.
First I tested the CT-17 on COM4 and I could not communicate. Then I tested
the CT-17 on COM1 and the same results, no communications. I have one of
those cables made by the N9 in Arkansas and put it in line. First I tried
COM1 and it worked! Then I tried COM4 and it did not work. I only have
COM1 internal to my computer and then I have a ByteRunner Serial card with
COM ports 4 through 11 on a spider cable. I know COM8 is working because
that is how I key my Mark-V with the W5XD interface. So I moved the cable
back to COM1 and changed DX4WIN to COM1 and again, no cigar.

There are 8 settings for the second radio in DX4WIN and here are my
settings:

Type: ICOM 706
Address: 48
Baudrate: 9600
COM Port: 1
Poll Rate (ms): 5000
Max Tries: 6
DTR high: checked
RTS high: unchecked

I know that the rig talks to the computer when I use CIVTEST but it does not
work with DX4WIN. I need some configuration help at this point and then I
can figure out why COM4 does not work.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import question

2006-06-13 Thread John Shaw
Scott,

A better solution to putting the contest name in the notes is to import
the contest log into it's own group, the group name will show up in your
log window and you can use the same group year after year if you want to
look at one year just make a selection using a date filter.

If you really must put the name in the notes then just use the find and
replace function in a text editor on the adif file. You already have a
comment in the adif you don't want for the frequency so do something
like this. Find comment:7 (the one for the frequency coment) and
replace with comment:12CQWW Contest. Get the idea, you fix two things
in one hit note the comment:7 should match the comment for the
frequency entry you said you had in your adif file, I'm just guessing
here what it might be. You may have to do this a few times if you
changed bands that caused the frequency to be longer or shorter as the
number in the comment:7 will match the length of the data. This is to
your advantage as the old frequency data will be ignored as long as you
make sure the replacement comment:12 number matches exactly the new
message you want which is entered immediately after the comment:12.

Hope this makes sense, it is always hard to know how much someone
understands already when sending these messages.

All of this should take about 5 minutes, no need for Paul or anyone to
write programs. The problem with people writing these converters is
things change, an example is I live outside USA and often the data in my
log is different to what USA participants have so a nice little
converter program someone has lovingly crafted is junk for me. So the
text editor is often a superior way of doing it.

The call tag in the ADIF file meets the specification as far as I can determine.

It appears to process the line correctly as all the other information seems to

[Dx4win] ADIF import quandary

2005-03-17 Thread Pete Smith
N1MM Logger's ADIF export has the Contest_ID field in every QSO record. I
did as Alan suggested, and it does work, for a single COMMENT or a single
NOTES fields per QSO record. I'm now trying to get multiple COMMENT and
NOTES into their respective fields, as Alan says can be done, so that I can
pick up names from NAQP and Sprint, etc. First effort didn't work, so I am
probably doing something wrong.

I'm not sure how well that would work. When I convert CT logs to ADIF,

[Dx4win] ADIF import quandary

2005-03-16 Thread Pete Smith
I'm trying to import my N1MM log into DX4WIN 6.03, and am having problems
understanding how DX4WIN decides which ADIF fields to import and where to
put them. For example, when I import an unmodified ADIF log, the import
goes fine, but for every contest QSO the frequency to several decimal
places (FREQ, in ADIF) plus the transmitted serial number (STX, in ADIF)
are both put into the Notes for QSO field.

What I would like to import into this field, in most cases, is the name of
the contest (CONTEST_ID). I couldn't care less about the frequency or the
STX (which in many cases, at least with MM, is not an actual contest
exchange serial number, but a mythical creature, in contests that don't
require one).

I tried using a word processor to replace CONTEST_ID with STX, and that
worked, so far as importing the contest name, but it wound up labeled with
SerNr= in every QSO record.

I have rummaged through the import file editor, as well as the help, and
have not been able to find anywhere that explains which ADIF tag is mapped
to which location in DX4WIN's record structure, or the extent to which the
mapping can be changed. Can anyone enlighten me?

[Dx4win] ADIF import quandary

2005-03-16 Thread A. Sewell
N1MM puts CONTEST_ID in each QSO line so it's easy to just replace it
with COMMENT and then DX4WIN will put it in the Notes for this QSO field.

If you don't have CONTEST_ID in each QSO line and would like to have the
contest name in the Notes for this QSO field just do a search and
replace on the EOR field in each line. Just replace it with something
like COMMENT:1110m Contest EOR. Just have to remember to include
the EOR back into the replace string.

Works great!

I'm not sure how well that would work. When I convert CT logs to
ADIF, there is but one CONTEST_ID field in the entire ADIF file, it's
not attached to any QSO. I guess I never thought of attaching it.

Dave AA6YQ, what is your interpretation of this field?

[Dx4win] adif import

2005-03-09 Thread Marc Wullaert
Hi,
I want to import my contestlog from n1mm in to dx4win.
Some years ago I had a small program in dos to convert CT logs into
dx4win.But lost it
where in the dx4win NOTE FOR THIS QSO wass filled in with wat I want like a
special pfx or contest name .

I imported the adif file ,buth I see in the Notes field FREQ and QSO nr..
Sure I did not save the imported
qso's.
Is there any program who can do a conversion ?
I want to have input like PFX OO4MA ARRL DX SSB for this note for this qso
fields.

[Dx4win] adif import

2005-03-09 Thread Franki ON5ZO
Marc, I also use both programs and I do this all the time.

Just open your exported ADIF in WordPad or whatever, and do a search and
replace
(ctrl+H)

Replace EOR with:
comment:xxhere goes your commentEOR
where XX = number of characters (including spaces!) in your comment tag.

Be sure to end the comment with EOR, as it is the end of record tag.
And be sure to preceed the number of characters by a colon (:).

Example:
comment:25OO4MA in ARRL DX SSB 2005EOR

To get rid frequency; do this: replace freqwith brol

Because brol is not a recognised ADIF tag, DX4WIN will skip this and drop the
info.
Note: Flemish users will know what brol is ;o)

To get rid of QSO numbers, also change STX and SRX to brol

Then import. You will get some zone errors as both programs have a different
view on
CQ zones. Therefore I delete all CQZ tags as well, and let DX4WIN decide. I
guess
this has to do with CTY files, but I am not an expert on CTY matters...

Good luck!

[Dx4win] ADIF Import of LOTW

2005-01-22 Thread J. F. Samuels
I expected that importing the LOTW records would update fields such as
State, County and Grid when they are blank. Did I do something wrong? Is
there a preference?

Is the information in your download, i.e. did you download using the
details option? My DX4Win data have always been updated when importing LoTW
files. I'm not aware of any preference setting.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import of LOTW

2005-01-22 Thread K2DBK - David
I can see this being useful as an option, with settings like:
-Imported data does not replace existing data
-Imported data completely overwrites existing data
-Imported data only overwrites missing data
-User is asked on a per-item/per-QSO basis

You listening Paul? :-)

It does not do that. Ask Paul if you desire this feature - some may not
want it.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import of LOTW

2005-01-22 Thread Wendell Wyly - W5FL
That would be a wonderful addition to DX4WIN and you have described the
necessary settings that would be useful.

Although you can do replace existing data now, that is not nearly as useful
as letting you be asked on a per-item basis. Since many people who send
records to LOTW do not seem to know their zones, etc., a wholesale replace
is not advisable and will quickly foul up the countries database exceptions.

[Dx4win] ADIF Import

2004-10-03 Thread Jim Martin - MM0BQI
Hi Shelby
The EOH (End Of Header) means that everything above is header information
and can be disregarded for import purposes. Thereafter each complete set of
QSO details ends in EOR which is end of record. The ADIF tags look okay,
is there a specific error message which comes up?
To check the ADIF file is okay try importing it into one of your contest
logging programs which will determine if the fault is with the file or
DX4WIN.

[Dx4win] ADIF import: header

2003-10-14 Thread Andy
Hello. I created an ADIF version of my own log [log.adi] and I used this
ADIF file successfully to upload my log to the LoTW project.
However, when I try to import log.adi file into DX4Win 6.02 I got the
error: No header found;
and no QSO is read into DX4Win.
It's true that I have no header ... however I don't know exactly how to
generate this header; I'm using an home made logging software so I need to
develop it for ADIF support.
May someone send me an example of header for an ADIF file suitable to
import in DX4Win, please?
I think you can generate this header if you own a registered copy of DX4Win
[my copy is a demo].
Thanks a lot, 73

Andy
